Chapter One of Two (expect Chapter Two probably tomorrow or Tuesday)
Tumblr media
Steve was reaching his wit’s end. It’d been months of this, ever since he adopted her. The barking, the pulling, the jumping. Every time he took her for a walk, she tried to run into the street to fight the cars! He just didn’t understand it and could barely handle it. She hadn’t been like this at the shelter when he picked her.
At home, she was the sweetest thing (for the most part). She gave him those soft puppy eyes and laid her head on his thigh while they watched TV on the couch. She rolled around in his path while he tried to cook, asking for belly rubs. She let out soft little snuffles and snores while she slept in his bed (and hogged most of it).
Except, when he tried to leave for work, she suddenly started barking and snapping at him. She was hyper-defensive of her food and didn’t like it when anyone but Robin visited.
Steve didn’t want to give up on Tabby. He loved her so much. But it was getting to the point where he was almost constantly worried and stressed about her being around other people and going for their twice daily walk.
He’d tried everything he could think of, too. He thought a lot of it might just be from under-stimulation, so he started coming home during lunch to add a third walk and bought her a whole box of toys to play with, but that didn’t help. He was pretty sure that coming home and lunch and then having to leave again was just making things worse, so he stopped.
This was probably the third time this week that he’d gone over all this again with Robin, but this time she didn’t give him her normal ‘that sucks’ speech.
“I mentioned what’s going on to Chrissy the other day,” she told him.
That had Steve stopping for a second. “What did she say?”
“Well, she asked me a couple questions, and then she said her best friend is a dog trainer.” Robin cracked open a bag of chips and got comfier. “Want some?” she offered.
Steve shook his head. “I’m good. So…?”
Robin crunched down on a handful of chips, past the point of shame with him. “Huh? Oh, yeah. So, I guess he specializes in ‘trouble’ dogs? Chrissy called it ‘reactive.’” Robin paused for a second to swallow. “She gave me his number. Said that he’d be able to help.”
“Hm,” Steve thought. “I dunno, Robs. We sure he’s able to help?”
“Chrissy seemed pretty sure.” She kept crunching and munching.
“God, I don’t even like barbecue chips, and you’re making me want some,” Steve complained.
Robin laughed, spitting out little chip crumbs all over the two of them; Steve made a disgusted face.
“Anyway,” she said, once she’d composed herself. “You should call him. Like, A-S-A-P. I love Miss Tabitha as much as you do, but she’s not doing well, Steve. She needs help.”
Robin reached over and put a hand under Tabby’s chin to direct the dog’s face to look at Steve. “Do it for her, Stevie.”
Steve looked between his two favorite girls and sighed. “Okay. I’ll call the dog guy.”
“Woo!” Robin cheered, and Tabby’s ears perked up.
The next day, Steve was sitting in his car on his lunch break, looking at the number punched into his phone and convincing himself to press the call button. Maybe Robin’s social anxiety was rubbing off on him. He normally didn’t have any trouble making phone calls. Eventually, with fifteen minutes left on his break, he bullied himself into pressing ‘Call.’
“Munson’s Dog Training, this is Eddie,” he heard a man’s voice answer.
“Um, hi,” Steve said, picking up a pen and starting to fiddle with it. “This is Steve- Steve Harrington. I got your number from Chrissy?”
“Oh!” He heard a rustling over the line. “Robin’s Steve? Chrissy told me she gave Robin my number and that you might call.”
“Yeah,” he said sheepishly. “I’m Robin’s Steve.” He actually didn’t mind being known as ‘Robin’s Steve’ as opposed to ‘Steve Harrington.’
“Cool,” the guy said. “Chrissy told me a little of what Robin told her, but it’s better if I hear it from you. Like,” he cleared his throat. “What’s your dog’s name? What have you been having issues with?”
“Her name’s Tabitha, or- Tabby is what we normally call her. She’s a lab mix I got from the shelter a few months ago.”
“Mhm.”
His pen fidgeting started to pick up speed. “She was super well-behaved at the shelter. Very friendly, seemed to get along fine with the other dogs, no red flags. But then I got her home, and she changed overnight. She freaks out about everything when we go on walks, and she’s aggressive a lot of the time. She’s mostly okay at home, but I can’t have visitors anymore, and she hates when I leave,” Steve explained, telling him everything he could think of.
Eddie hummed. “Yeah. Don’t worry. A lot of that sounds very common for a rescue. I can’t promise we’ll completely get rid of all of those behaviors, but I think we can definitely work on reducing the… intensity of them.”
Steve felt a weight lift off his shoulders and dropped the pen. “Really?” He couldn’t believe it.
“For sure. It’s nothing I haven’t seen before,” he explained. “I do need to warn you, though,” he continued. “I can’t do all the work for you. Some people don’t understand that about dog training. Most of the work has to be done between the two of you outside of our sessions. I just give you tips to send you in the right direction.”
Steve nodded, then remembered Eddie wouldn’t see it over the phone. “Whatever it takes, man. I love Tabby. I just want her to feel less stressed and upset all the time.”
“Awesome. I’m happy to help then. When do you want to start?”
The two of them set up a time to meet that weekend right as Steve’s lunch break was reaching its end. As he was hanging up, he caught sight of his forgotten sandwich and shoved it in his mouth, letting it dangle, as he walked back into work.
By the time Saturday rolled around, Steve was nearly ready to scream. Now that he knew something was about to change, every little bump in the road with Tabby frustrated him beyond belief. He would never take it out on her, but he had to catch himself from giving her leash a yank when she lunged or snapping at her when he tried to nip him on his way out the door. He loved Tabitha, but he was so tired.
When it was time for Eddie to show up, Steve was anxiously pacing in front of his front door. The second the doorbell rang, he was yanking the door open. In the background, he could hear Tabby barking like crazy and pawing at the door, trying to get out of his bedroom where he’d put her.
Steve’s words died on his lips when he saw Eddie for the first time. The man was… Perfect. Exactly Steve’s type. Big, dark, curly hair and big, brown eyes. His mouth just opened and closed a few times, trying to reboot his brain.
“Uh, hey,” Eddie said to him. “Steve, right?”
He finally snapped out of it. “Yeah! I’m Steve. And you’re Eddie, right?” Steve stuck his hand out to shake.
“Mhm.” Eddie shook his hand perfunctorily.
They stood there on the doorstep for a moment too long just shaking hands and looking at each other, until Eddie dropped Steve’s hand.
“Can I come in?” he asked, gesturing past Steve.
“Oh, god, yeah, for sure,” Steve stuttered out, stepping to the side to let Eddie in.
Eddie entered the house and started meandering around, looking at this and that, taking in the place. “So I hear, but can’t see, the lady of the hour. Where’s she at?” Eddie raised a brow, looking at Steve.
Steve rubbed the back of his neck, blushing a little. “I put her in my bedroom. Like I said on the phone, she doesn’t like visitors. I didn’t want her trying to bite you,” he explained.
Eddie just nodded calmly. “That’s not uncommon with rescues, man.” He offered Steve a reassuring smile. “This is her territory now, and she’s not used to feeling safe with strangers, so she wants to keep them away from her safe space. It’s a pretty easy fix, though.”
Steve sighed in relief. “Really?” He’d gotten so used to not being able to have anyone over but Robin; he was so happy to know that maybe he’d be able to start having the kids (though they weren’t really kids anymore) over again.
“Yup. I just need to become her friend,” he said. Then he pulled a plastic baggie of little bits of lunch meat and sliced cheese out of his pocket. “These are high value treats,” he explained, shaking the bag. “I forgot to ask if there was anything specific she really liked, but these work for most dogs.
“You just need to make everything worth it for her,” he continued. “So since I’m coming into her territory as a stranger, I’m going to offer her some of the good stuff to distract her from that. Then she’ll associate me being in your house with happy feelings instead of being scared.”
“That’s it?” Steve asked. He thought this would take way more effort.
Eddie nodded. “Sure. I mean, I’ll probably have to do this for the first half-dozen times I come over, until it fully clicks in her brain, but it’s not too hard.
“To be honest,” he continued, “none of this process is difficult. It’s actually all really simple. You just have to be patient and consistent. The only clients of mine that haven’t seen results are the ones that don’t keep it up in between sessions.”
Steve thought it over. As long as he knew what he needed to be doing, he could keep at it. He was a fairly disciplined person in general. He just hadn’t known where to start with this whole mess. “I understand,” he told Eddie.
“Awesome.” He cracked open the bag. “Want to let her out now? Maybe put her leash on her, and we can say hi from opposite ends of the room?” Eddie bounced the bag on his hand a time of two to get it to open fully then carefully plucked a piece of cheese out of it.
Caught up on looking at the rings on Eddie’s fingers, it took Steve a minute to get with the program. “Yeah, yep!” he said and cleared his throat. He quickly grabbed Tabby’s leash off the hook near the front door and headed to his bedroom.
As soon as he cracked the door, she tried to push her way through to get out, but Steve nudged her back with his knee, sliding into the room and shutting the door behind him. “C’mon, Tabs. We gotta get your leash on and say ‘hi’ to someone,” he told her.
Once he managed to get her leash on her even with her squirming and whining, he slowly opened his door again. She instantly started pulling and trying to yank him into the living room. “Tabby, calm down!” he said.
He was more dragged to the living room than him leading her there, but after mere moments, they were on the opposite side of the room to Eddie. Once he was in sight, Tabby was barking and pulling, trying to get at him. It took Steve holding onto the leash with both hands and planting his feet to keep her from getting what she wanted.
“Hello, Miss Tabitha,” Eddie crooned in a soft voice and tossed her the piece of cheese. She stopped barking for a moment to lick it up off the floor, but then she picked back up.
Eddie persisted, though. With every bit of cheese or meat tossed, Tabby calmed down more and more, and he was able to slowly approach. After five or six treats and as twice as many steps, Eddie was within reach of Tabby, who was now quite docile, wagging her tail and looking eagerly for treats.
He offered her his fingers to sniff and quickly got her approval. She licked the tips of his fingers, trying to get a little more taste of treat. “Hey, sweet girl,” he said softly, crouching and scratching behind her ears. “There we go. See, I’m not scary.”
Steve… was in awe. And maybe a bit in love.
While Eddie kept up the ear scritches, he looked up at Steve. “Did you pay attention to what I did there?”
“Mhm,” he hummed in a daze.
“Anytime you have anyone over, you just need to replicate that. Like I said earlier, it can take a few visits for each person before she calms down, so don’t get discouraged,” he said to Steve.
“Now, let’s talk about what your other objectives are training-wise, so I can come up with a lesson plan for Miss Tabby here to nail,” Eddie continued. He pulled another treat out of the bag and offered it to her on a flat palm.
The two of them sat in Steve’s living room for the next half-hour discussing everything Steve was hoping to accomplish with Eddie’s help. As the clock ticked on, Steve’s heart felt lighter and lighter. Eddie was agreeing that all his goals were definitely doable, even if they’d take time and hard work; he wasn’t a bad dog dad. She was just a traumatized pup who needed his help.
They set up the next session to meet at his house again, but this time they’d take Tabby for a walk and work on her desire to attack cars when they drove past.
As soon as he said goodbye to Eddie and saw him out the door, Steve rang Robin.
“Hey, what’s up?” Robin answered the phone.
“You didn’t tell me he was so hot!” Steve complained to her.
It was silent for a second before Robin busted out laughing. “I’ve never met him! How was I supposed to warn you?” she said between chuckles.
“I dunno, Robs. But you still should have,” he said pettily, huffing.
She got her laughter under control, but he could still hear the smile in her voice, “Did it go well at least?”
Steve thought over their afternoon session. “He’s just as good as Chrissy said. Tabby acted like she normally does around strangers, but he had her calming down in minutes,” he confided.
Robin made an approving sound. “That’s great!”
“Yeah, and he told me how to make her do it for everyone that comes over,” he said. “I might be able to have the kids start coming over again.” He smiled at the thought of his lonely house full of life again. Then, he looked at the calendar where the next appointment was marked, eager for time to skip ahead. Wednesday couldn’t come fast enough.
It took a little while, but the two eventually wrapped up their call, with a promise to meet up for lunch the next day. After Steve told Robin he loved her one last time, he pressed ‘End Call’ and flopped onto the couch next to Tabby.
She let out a little huff and settled in against his side.
Steve ran his hand from ears to tail over and over again. “Did you like Eddie, Tabs? I hope so. I really hope he can help you.”

-->And the moment I arrived, THERE was the holiday overlay! Whew – so changing lots got the game to acknowledge the holiday. Still worrying, but at least my Sims could PARTICIPATE!
First things first, though – it was hot in Brindleton, so I had Smiler change into their hot weather wear (as Alice and Victor had already done so – vampires are immune to temperature, so they don’t automatically change, which can be a little annoying sometimes), then start looking around for a good spot for the food stand while Victor felt the love with Shadow and Alice signed up Surprise to be cured of her affliction. I finally got Smiler to put the stand in a good location as Alice and Surprise waited for the vet, made sure it was stocked, and prepared to start a food sale –
Only for the game to tell me it couldn’t have “two social events” going on at the same time. Hmmm. All right, I was game to wait until after Surprise was cured. I instead had Smiler entertain Kelly with a laser pointer to pass the time –
-->And decided, “you know what, Victor’s Pet Training skill is almost up to Level 4, meaning leveling it up would count toward New Skill Day – why not train Shadow to heel?” So that’s exactly what he did, getting the dog to follow him around outside the hospital. Shadow was – a BIT distracted by her own tail at first, but as time went on she got better at keeping pace with Victor. XD I then checked in on how things were going with Surprise’s examination...
Only to discover they weren’t. For some reason, midway through the exam, the vet just stopped what she was doing, and Surprise was let go without anyone even trying to diagnose what was wrong with her. >( Damn glitchy game...I instead decided to have Alice get Shock spayed instead and see what happened there – fortunately THAT worked, and it went a lot faster too. Maybe because both vets were awake and working this time, instead of one sleeping on the waiting room couch. XD (Seriously, that ALWAYS seems to happen when I first load into the lot for some reason...) Alice was starting to get twitchy from being around all those strangers, though, so I had Smiler sign Surprise up for examination number two and let her clear her head by running off to a far-away dig site to see what was inside. Ended up digging up a new fossil rock with a fossilized egg inside, nice. :) She then went and entertained poor coned Shock with some laser pointer in the vet’s back yard while Smiler chatted with Brant Hecking inside the vet (learning he was a Personal Sports Trainer for The Other Sports Team, apparently) –
And Victor got Pet Training 4 from working with Shadow! :D One person’s New Skill Day skill down – two to go!
-->But first – finally getting Surprise cured! Yes, this time Surprise got checked over by the OTHER vet, who successfully determined she had Winterfest Fever. Smiler paid the big bucks for the best treatment (as I say so often, my Sims can afford it), and the cat was given a shot that brought her back to normal. I was very pleased with this, both because hooray, the vet lot decided to work –

— MONKEY D. LUFFY.
He's so clingy around you, more than he is with anyone else.
Always, always, shares his food with you. Especially if you were busy training before dinner.
He's always around you no matter what. Oh? You're trying to help Sanji cook? He's on the floor watching you. Want to go buy supplies for Nami? He's clung onto your back like a Koala. Want to sleep due to a long day? He's right there in your bed with you.
He's so dorky about it too! Wants to spend every waking moment with you but doesn't know that he has a crush on you, just always wants ta be around you!
He's so jealous without even knowing it. What are you doing hanging out with Usopp when he's right here??
"[Name]..." Luffy groaned, clinging to your back with a sad expression on his face. He had his limbs wrapped around your torso and his head between your neck. "You aren't going to talk with Usopp again, are you?"
You stop walking, staring at him through the corner of your eyes. "Yes? I thought you and Usopp were best buddies, what happened?"
Luffy groans louder, causing Nami to yell at him to shut up from her room. "Nooooo, stay here and talk with meeeeeeee!" He wraps his arms around you three times (thanks to his devil fruit) and starts to shake your body around.
"Luffy— I can't even move if you don't let go of me!"
Luffy looks at you with puppy dog eyes. "Why hang out with Usopp when I'm right here?! I should be the only one you have eyes for..." He pouts as he presses his cheek against yours.
Your body flushes. Did... did he realize what he just said?
"Luffy, you can't say things like that if you don't know what they mean..." You huff, trying not to look too deep into what he could've meant by that. Luffy says things he doesn't mean, so you don't want to get your hopes up.
That only seems to coerce Luffy into whining. "I do know what it means! I said it, dummy! Stupid!! You should be mine, not Usopp's! I'm cooler and better and bigger and amazinger and uhm, you're mine because I say so!!"
Amazinger...?
You can't help the giggle that comes out of you, trying to force yourself to calm down while Luffy shakes you repeatedly. "[Name] c'mon, you'll be mine, right? Not Usopp! Cause, he can't cook and he's a sniper!"
"What does him being a sniper have to do with anything? And besides, you can't cook either Luffy."
Luffy blanks for a split second before going back to what he was doing. "I dunno. Doesn't matter! C'monnnnn, [Name], you're bullying meeeeeeeee!"
You hold onto Luffy's arm with a laugh, pressing your cheeks together as a form of affection. "Yes, Luffy, I'll be yours."
Luffy stares at you with surprise before turning back to his usual happy-go-lucky self. "Yippie!! Now, we can do all the things boyfriends do! Like go on dates, and eat together, and sleep together, and—"
As he continues to list off all the things he thinks boyfriends do, you can't help but chuckle.
Not like you two weren't doing that before his confession.

— VINSMOKE SANJI.
(inspired by @/sanjisboyfie 's oneshot ab this tragic little adorable man !! :3)
It took so long for Sanji to realize he liked you because he's not used to being attracted to men.
Thought that every time you complimented his cooking and his heart swelled up, it was just the flu. Nothing interesting or important.
Then, he started noticing how pretty your features were when you were eating, or how embarrassed he gets whenever it's just you and him in the kitchen.
When he realizes he does like you, his mind utterly falters, because... why would you like him back?
Even though there are lingering fears in his heart, he always tries his best to please you. Even if it means blushing like a moron whenever you address him directly.
"[Name]! I uhm, made this for you since you were... hurt, during our last fight." Sanji muttered nervously, averting his eyes as he held out a plate of food. Something small and easy to digest, but a food you like.
You smile warmly as you take the plate from his hands, your fingers brushing slightly as Sanji's face flusters even more. "This looks amazing! Thanks, Sanji. Do you want to sit with me? The seas are calm tonight."
Sanji pauses as he looks at you. His cigarette is inches away from falling out of his mouth and his face dazes.
"Sanij? You okay? You can say no, I won't be mad. It's not even your shift yet and everyone needs sleep." You say with an airy smile as you turn your attention to the food.
Sanji was right (like he was most of the time when it came to you and food), after the 'Big Mom incident' you were quite injured (and hungry). Seeing all the... talking food, didn't do much to raise your appetite.
There's a soft thud right beside you, long black legs resting a safe distance away from yours. A comfortable silence falls between the two of you, even if Sanji's cheeks are flushed and he's nervously playing with his thumbs.
"Wowww, this is really good Sanji!" You say happily, flashing Sanji a warm smile as you return to eating the food so gracefully given to you. Oblivious to the man beside you whose face looks so red it rivals Luffy's signature vest.
Sanji looks at you with nothing sort of affection. It's not the same as when Nami or Robin compliment him, you just saying his name is enough to make him flustered, but being this close to you alone might send him into cardiac arrest.
"[Name]...?" His voice is quiet, staring at you with expectant eyes.
You pause eating, covering your mouth, and cocking your head in confusion.
"This uhm... might be a weird question, but do you um,, l-like anybody?" He becomes more flushed with every word that comes out of his mouth.
The second you take too long to answer he starts to curse himself out for even sitting down. Everything was going so well until he opened his mouth—
"Yes, I do. What, trying to feel out if I'm single?" You tease with a light chuckle, picking up the last bit of food and holding it out expectantly. "You want some?"
Sanji can't say no to you. Even if he tries his hardest, his body will not let him say no, not to an indirect kiss; especially when you're offering. Even if you might not see it in the same light he does.
He opens his mouth and lets you place the spoon in his mouth as your eyes turn into crescents. "See? Does it taste good?"
God— Sanji feels like he's going to explode.
He nods, begging himself to calm down before his mind starts to run.
"Oh," You say suddenly, "—that was an indirect kiss, wasn't it?" You lin hum thoughtfully and place the plate beside you, letting out a soft yawn as you stretch. "You sure you don't need to—"
"I am so in love with you."
"...pardon?"
Sanji stands up immediately, his face red. "Nothing!! I'm sorry, I'm really sleepy now so I'll—"
"Sanji, what did you say?" You ask carefully, holding onto his hand to try and stop him from running away.
"It's nothing, [Name], please just let me—"
"Sanji." Your voice comes off soft, relaxing your body so you come off as gentle and not hostile. "Just say it, one more time for me, okay?"
Sanji could feel his entire body burning up just from holding hands, more so from him getting caught blurting out his feelings again. He stares at the floor of the Sunny, too ashamed to look you in the eyes. "I... I'm in love with you? I'm sorry if you don't like me back, I didn't mean it I swear!"
"Sanji, what makes you think I don't like you back? Better question, what makes you think I didn't know?" You cock your head playfully, pulling him gently so he's sitting again.
"...what?"
You chuckle. "I've heard all the other embarrassing times you've confessed your feelings, it's just that the crew was around and I didn't want to put you on the spot. I've liked you since we met on the Baratie, silly."
Sanji's eyes widen as his mouth falls agape. You've liked him... for two years?!
"Sanji...?" You move up to straddle him, your hands resting on his cheeks. "Can I... kiss you?"
Sanji nods so fast he thinks his head might fall off.
You smile, leaning forward to press your lips together. Sanji's body physically relaxes as he practically melts into you, his face redder than blood.
It takes all his willpower and the need to breathe for him to finally pull away from you. His face is flushed and his breathing is heavy, staring at you like you're the only man in the world— like you're the prettiest thing in the world.
You giggle, pressing your heart onto his chest. "I love you so much."
Zoning back into reality, he carefully places his arms around your waist. "I love you too, so so much [Name],"

— RORONOA ZORO.
Zoro isn't good at expressing his emotions, everyone knows that.
So, when he figures out he might have a romantic attraction to you, he's confused about what to do. Considers asking Nami about it, but goes with Robin since Nami is... an interesting woman!
Robin tells him to be upfront with his feelings, or subtly tell the person.
He's a naturally mature person, having a crush on his crewmate doesn't change that by any means.
Even if he is cold to everyone, if you two are alone on the deck of the Sunny, he lets you sleep with him or touch his swords.
Just having you around is enough to calm him down. Seeing as his biggest love language is quality time and you enjoy talking about the randomest things around him, it makes his heart flutter whenever you act like he's the only person in the world who you care about.
"Mhm! And did you know that otters hold hands when they're asleep?" You point to an otter in the marine life book Zoro got you during your last pit stop.
Zoro shakes his head, his arms crossed with a small, barely noticeable amused smile on his face.
"Yeah! It's so they don't drift off when they're asleep. Not sure anyone knows why, but I like to think it's because they don't want to lose each other. After all, they're social animals! Oh! They also like to cuddle a lot—"
"Kind of like me and you, no?" Zoro interrupts with a playful aura, causing your train of thought to stop, face flushing as you stare at his smug expression.
"Um, y-yes! Like... like me, and you..." Your voice progressively gets smaller under Zoro's gaze. He moves closer, causing you to move your arms back, resting on your palms. "Zoro?"
"Keep telling me about the otters, don't worry," He replies coyly, grabbing you by the waist and bringing you into his lap.
Your face flushes, stuttering over your words as you nod. Shakily grabbing the book to bring it closer. Carefully picking your words, you begin speaking again. "They might also, uhm, hold hands because they don't have very thick fur. It could be to share body heat and keep warm, since they get cold easily."
"What if I said we were otters?" Zoro asks from behind you, resting his chin on your head.
"Ah, then we'd have to hold hands when we sleep!" Quickly realizing what you said, you try to reel it back in. "O-of course, only if you want to! I wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable or anything, I know how much you like your personal space so—"
"You're in my personal space and it doesn't look like I mind very much, does it, [Name]?"
Twiddling your thumbs meekly, you shake your head no. Zoro laughs and takes one of your hands, putting it above his. The size difference is obvious, your fingers stop just below his second knuckle. Something about that causes a riot in your brain, especially when Zoro squeezes them together.
"Okay, another question," Zoro starts, moving the intertwined hands to your lap. "What if I asked you to be my boyfriend?"
You turn around immediately, staring at him with wide eyes. He isn't... joking, is he? Zoro doesn't normally joke about things (unless he's with Sanji), so it wouldn't make sense for him to joke about this. Especially when it's something so serious.
"Hm? What's your answer, pretty boy?"
You've liked Zoro ever since he sat down and listened to you talk about the different kinds of fishmen after the ordeal with Arlong. Zoro has never expressed romantic attraction to anybody, not even to the bountiful amounts of women who've expressed attraction to him.
Your mind blanks, and you must've been staring at him for too long because the smallest bit of worry falls on his face. "You okay? I'm not forcing you, you know? Saying no is okay."
Saying... no? To a man that looks like he was crafted by Zeus himself? Hell no! "No! I-I mean, yes, I mean—"
"Take your time pretty boy, I'm not going anywhere."
He's adjusted your position to where you're facing each other, hands still intertwined as he looks at you with a soft (?) expression. Taking a deep breath, you force yourself to make eye contact with him.
You've never looked at his this close before. Sure, you two have cuddled to sleep on countless nights, but then you were always faced away from each other.
He has long eyelashes. Not extremely long, but longer than you thought they were. Even if his eyes are black, you've noticed they soften whenever he looks at you, it makes him pretty.
Meekly, you nod. Holding your head down to try and hide your embarrassment. Before you can, though, Zoro stops you by lifting your chin up with his finger. "You can use words, can't you?"
It should sound condescending, the way he's talking to you, but it sounds more encouraging than anything. Even if there might be light teases mixed with his words.
"Yes, I, I would want to be your uhm... your boyfriend."
Zoro grins at that, pressing a quick kiss on your lips and twisting you around, pulling you closer so the back of your head is between his boobs pecs. "Love you, pretty boy."
"I-I love you too, Zoro," You force out, even if it feels like you're overheating due to the blood rushing to your cheek and... other places, as well as Zoro's added body heat.
You two truly were like otters.

Hi can you do a Percy Jackson x female reader.she is the daughter of Aphrodite
A little background Percy has this puppy love towards her.she has a fondness towards him but oddly enough even though she is the daughter of Aphrodite she comes off as cold.Ok so this takes place episode five of the series and they are arguing about who will sit in the golden chair.when he sits down and is turned into gold she tries her hardest to get him out.She has the talk with Hephaestus like how Annebeth did in the show. When Percy comes out of chair is was able to hear everything she ways saying.Figuring out she actually does really like him.
Trying Not to Love You - Percy Jackson
Summary: As above.
Warnings: Like one naughty word and a lil peck. Use of Y/n (Idk if that counts)
A/N: This is my first piece of writing so pls be nice, and pls leave feedback. Also, I know logically that they're like 12 and have probably known each other for like two weeks and therefore don’t actually love each other, but for the sake of the story, we're ignoring that. Also x2, I know Nickelback gets hate but they go hard and I'm DONE acting like they don't. (Listen to Trying Not to Love you, which is what this made me think of)
WC: 1.4k

For a daughter of Aphrodite, I sure don’t seem like one. My siblings and I get along just fine, but no one can deny the differences between us. We differ in that where my siblings are outgoing, smiley, and warm, I happen to be more reserved, more introverted. Many suggest I’m colder than my siblings, but that’s not the case. I’m just wary, and if that presents as being cold, so be it. We share traits, of course. We’re kind, socially aware, and well… beautiful. And with that, often comes an onslaught of suitors. Sure, I had a few, but none that I ever felt drawn to. And none that stuck out quite like Percy Jackson did.
“He’s staring again.” My sister said as she nudged my side. I look up from my plate and meet his gaze. He sends a panicked smile before a blush spread across his cheeks and he quickly looks back down at his food.
“Poor thing looks like a kicked puppy, you should talk to him, put him out of his misery.” My sister continues. I hum and tilt my head before getting up to make my way toward the fire. I scrape the last of my brisket off my plate as I hear him approach.
“Uh, hi.”
“Hi Percy.”
“It’s, uh, pretty warm out, huh. Not all that pleasant standing by the fire. Maybe we should, I dunno, go for a walk? By the lake maybe?” He presses his lips together and looks at me with those puppy dog eyes. Were his eyes always that pretty? No. Stop it.
“Sorry Percy, we’re having girls night in our cabin tonight, I can’t” I quickly explain. Sure, it’s not nice to lie, but it has to be done. What are my options? Keep saying no until he loses interest, or give in to the temptation, and eventually have to break his heart? He doesn’t deserve that. The former it is.
I quickly make my way back to my cabin, and into bed.  Not turning around to see that he does, in fact, look like a kicked puppy.
---
“Y/n”
My head snaps up and I quickly glance around. What? Me?
“Customarily, one waits to at least hear a name or two before choosing. Are you sure you don’t want to hear more?” Chiron states apprehensively
Apparently not… I think to myself as Percy goes on a spiel about how he must choose those he trusts most. Why me?
---
Cold, wet, and coughing. That pretty much sums up my state right about now. Somehow, I had made it out of the water when I surely thought I was going to drown. Had that been Percy?
I fumble my way off the ground, taking Percy’s outstretched hand.
“Are you ok? You’re not hurt?” He rushes out as he looks me up and down franticly.
“I’m fine, Percy. Thank you.”
“Yeah, no, of course. Sorry if I was too rough, I’m kinda making it up as I go along.”
I just smile as we direct our gaze to the grand, golden statue in front of us. There it was, the shield we’d almost drowned to get to our hands on.
“How are we supposed to get that thing down?”
I look between the statue and the chair that say at its feet. “These things are connected somehow. It’s a machine, but how do you start the machine?” I say as I scan the mechanism for any clues.
Percy seems to retreat into his mind for a moment before coming to a realisation. “It was a gift with a hidden purpose. Hephaestus offered it to Hera, but as soon as she sat in it, she couldn’t get up.”
Percy continued to explain, and it finally clicked. One of us has to sit in it. One of isn’t getting out of it.
“I’ll do it.” I say without thinking. I didn’t need to think about it, it was a no-brainer. Between the two of us, Percy needs to continue, and for some reason I don’t let myself delve into, I have no objections giving my life for his.
“What? Wait a minute!” He grabs my wrist to stop me from proceeding towards the chair.
“No, Percy. It’s me or you, and I’m not going to let it be you.”
“Y/n, no! I brought you on this quest because I couldn’t bear the thought of you not being by my side. I didn’t want to go anywhere you wouldn’t be.” He let go of my hand and I immediately missed his touch.
“Percy- “
“Y/n. Listen to me. It’s ok. Even if you sit in the chair, the outcome would be the same. A piece of me would go with you, and I’d be no use to the quest. You’re strong. You don’t need me.”
He took a lunge and planted himself firmly in the chair. Molten gold crawled its way up his legs and I could hear cogs and wheels spinning within the machine. Oh gods, this is really happening.
“Percy, stand up! This isn’t funny, Percy, please!”
“It’s ok. It’s ok, Y/n. I’m ok.”
And just like that the gold had made its way across his face and it was done. He’d been turned into a statue, and it was my fault.
The shield dropped to floor with an echo, but I barely heard it. I need to fix this.
I made my way around to the back of the chair and dropped to my knees. I brushed my hands across the machine, praying to whoever would listen. Mum, please. Help me out here.
And just like that, a man had appeared at the platform above the statue.
“Hephaestus” I heard a small voice whisper, from nowhere, yet everywhere.
Thanks, Mum. I won’t let you down.
“Can I help you? Do you need some help finding your way out?” He played a melodic tune on his harmonica and a ladder appeared, leading up to the platform.
“I’m not leaving without him, Hephaestus. And if you’re not going to help me, can you please leave me alone so I can focus?”
“In spite of what you may have been told, I am not someone who can be pushed around.”
I let out a sigh and deflated my shoulders. Tears blurred my vision, but I pulled them back. Now isn’t the time, I need to focus.
“Hephaestus, please. I can’t do this without him, despite what he may think. I know you know how this feels. To love someone you know you can’t have. But you got another chance when the gods gave you my mother, I won’t be afforded such a luxury. My mother has been more than generous giving me someone like him, someone I don’t deserve. I won’t get that again. I’ll never find someone like him, never love someone like I love him. Please, Hephaestus, I’m begging. Let him go. Let me have him, let me love him.”
The man hung his head. I couldn’t tell if he was moved by what I had said, or if it just pissed him off. I just hope to the gods I wasn’t the latter. He turned his back and I mirrored him in hanging my head. I had failed.
Another note played from his harmonica and my ear perked up, along with my hope. I shot to my feet as I heard the gears in the chair start to move. Making my way around to the front of the chair, I saw him again. Those sea green, puppy dog eyes I had tried so hard not to love. He took a gasping breath as the last of the gold melted off of him.
He stood from the chair and immediately pulled me into an embrace. Without thinking, I let myself hug him back, indulging in his hold for once.
“I heard you.”
“What?”
“I heard what you said when I was in the chair, Y/n.”
What??? Oh fuck…
He moved his hands from my shoulders to my cheeks and rested his forehead against mine. “I feel the same, you know I do. And I know you don’t want to let yourself feel that way, because you think you’ll break my heart, but I don’t care. Please, Y/n, let yourself love me. Gods know I let myself a long time ago.”
I stared into his eyes at a loss for words. I placed my hands on either side of his face and pressed my lips to his.
“I’ll take that as-”
I just kissed him again.

a six year old was playing in the sandbox at a local playground, building a sandcastle. she giggled as she placed a small stick on the top of her sandcastle before some kids running as they played a game ran towards her. she managed to not get trampled by them, but her structure was ruin. tears started running down her cheeks.
"hey, are you ok?" a small child stood before her, his wide brown eyes staring down in concern. he had coily dark hair, and was holding a wrapped popsicle in his hand.
"my sandcastle..." she sputtered out, wiping her tears. it took her a while and she was disappointed that it was destroyed after all her hard work.
"don't cry! my mommy says that crying is bad, it gives you wrinkles," he spoke, looking around for a solution. "here! take my popsicle, and stop being sad, ok? you can't be all wrinkly!" handing her the package in her sandy little hands, her tears almost immediately stopped.
"yay! you're my friend now, come meet my mommy!" standing up on tiny legs, shaking so some sand falls off her already dirty dress, she took his hand and started walking to her mom, who was already staring at the scene with a smile, along with the boys mom, who was exchanging phone numbers with her for future playdates.
"mommy, this is my new friend!" letting go of his hand, she presented him to her mom, smiling brightly as the boy looked up at her with a nervous smile.
"aw, thats nice baby, do you know his name?" the mother asked, looking down at him with a kind smile.
the girl paused. did he ever tell her his name? "duh mommy, his name is..." she looked at the boy, whispering into his ear, "whats your name?" He whispered back to her, the two mothers laughing at the sight. "his name is miles, mommy! he gave me a popsicle!"
the mother glanced at miles. "well nice to meet you honey. i'm this little chipmunk's mom." she ticked the little girl gently as the child squirmed, giggling.
"mom, I'm not a chipmunk!" she pouted, looking up at the amused woman. "i'm a big girl now," she muttered, not wanting to be embarrassed in front of her new friend.
"i'm sorry honey, you're a big girl," her mom said, laughing softly. miles grabbed the girl's hand before pointing at the playground, where there was an empty pair of swings.
"look! the swings are free, lets go swing!" the duo ran through the woodchips towards the swings before they were taken, and luckily they made it before anyone else did.
as they started swinging, the girl opened the slightly melted popsicle, and gasped as she saw it was one of those double ones. with the most precision a six year old can muster, she split the popsicle and handed one side to him with a grin. "now we can share!"
the two mothers looked at the kids with a smile. they could tell this friendship was gonna be a good one.
---
flopping onto miles' bed, you take out your phone and show him a picture. "can we please go here miles? look how cute the food is!" on your phone screen, you were showing him picture after picture of a little cafe that opened not too far from his place.
"i dunno, the food looks cute for sure," he mutters, and you perk up. "but money..." you deflate immediately.
"c'mon, please? you know I get paid from ganke next week for helping him with homework, i'll pay you back!" staring at him with puppy dog eyes always broke down his (very small) defenses he held up against you. this little, ok well, not that little crush he held on you was making him basically silly puddy in your hands.
"you ain't gotta do that, i'll pay sunflower," he mumbles, sitting up. Seeing the smile that immediately lights up your face makes it worth the fact that those new markers and jordans he was saving up for would probably have to wait another month (or maybe two, since your birthday was coming up soon).
glancing at his floor as he looked for his shoes, he saw a drawing he had made of you about a week ago. he wasn't biased, but he thought it was one of his best works. you, surrounded in sunflowers and a smile shining from your face, he knew he was done for.
he was a broke boy in love.
---
you sat in front of miles, grabbing what looked like a torture device with a grin as you held his face still with one hand. "miles, hold still!"
"no, this is gonna kill me!"
you pouted, shifting closer to him. "its just my eyelash curler, now hold still!" you held it closer to his face as winced, trying to stay as still as possible. "there, almost done, last is the lips!"
as you scrambled to go get your lip gloss and lip liner, he wondered why he hadn't confessed yet. it was almost the 10 year anniversary of that playground meeting, and he swore he would tell you a year ago, but then again, he also said that the year before that one.
he looked down at the breakfast on his wrist, the black and red a perfect setting for the silver spider charm that sat perfectly in the middle. although you have (hopefully) not learned about secret alter ego, you said it fit his "vibe."
he just took your word for it with a nervous smile.
you came back with new supplies to decorate his face with, and as he saw the smile on your face, he swore he would tell you soon.
....maybe.
---
you hugged him tightly as you stood at the front door of his house, about to walk home. your hair smelled like vanilla and cocoa butter, and he wanted to bury his face into you (but in a non-creepy way, or course).
it was close to the last day of high school, and you and him were going separate ways, he wanted to go to one uni, and it wasn't the one for you. he was gonna miss your late night talks on the roof, splitting meat patties every friday, the way you dragged your fingers through his hair gently as you rambled about anything and everything.
he still hadn't told you he was spider-man, but now definitely wasn't the time. looking down at the well-worn bracelet on his wrist, he didn't know if he would even get around to it. maybe when he came to visit you?
kicking rocks on the sidewalk distracted him on his walk back home distracted him from his thoughts until-
bang!
he heard a clash of screams and destruction as he spun around to see a cloud of dust in the direction he just left from. whats going on?
thankful for the amount of alleyways in this side of town, he slipped off his normal clothes to reveal his suit and swung over buildings to assess before diving straight in, from his experience, not doing that normally led to a longer talk with the police.
ugh, some stupid new villain of the week. easy stuff. swing in, save citizens, then knock them out. as he webbed people out of the way, he spotted the one person he didn't want to be in the chaos.
"sunflower?" he gasped, and immediately as your face snapped to him, he knew he messed up. he'd play that off later, but for now, he had to act. quickly scooping you up in his arms, he dropped you on a roof of a building, quickly deepening his voice. "c-citizen, stay up here, ill... come back and get you, just-"
you grabbed his wrist with a stern look on your face. "you better not leave me up here, miles." he nodded quickly before running to go fight off the latest villain, who was apparently mad because the "love of her life" left her for university. 'join the club...' he thought before he dived down.
---
as he handed the lady to the police, he thought back to you on the roof, and your words.
'you better not leave me up here, miles.'
you had called him miles.... dammit, you knew. he groaned softly, before swinging back to the roof he left you on, seeing you play games on your phone. "took you long enough, bug-boy." you mumbled, slipping the device into your pocket.
"dont play me, sunflower. you know. you knew. how long?" he spoke, fiddling with his thumbs.
"um, lemme think... the day before i brought you that bracelet. i was waiting for you to tell me, but..." you look away from him with a small frown, biting the inside of your lip. he knew you only did that when u were thinking hard.
" 'm sorry, i was gonna but... i didn't."
"well... were you also gonna tell me that you like me?"
miles started choking on his spit, pulling up his mask to reveal his whole face. "w-what? y-you- what?"
"i saw the drawing on your floor. you made me look so... pretty." you stared at your shoes with that same smile as miles had captured in his drawing, suddenly finding your tangled laces interesting.
"you are pretty," he mumbled, staring at you, he could almost see the sunflowers blooming around you. "wish i said something before uni."
"yeah... but its not too late to do this, right?"
before he could ask what, your arms were wrapping around his shoulders as you met him in a sweet kiss, and damn it felt like everything he imagined and so much more.
"so... you like me?" miles looked at you with a boyish smile as you rolled your eyes.
"you're lucky i do," you said before you kissed him again, his arms finally moving to wrap around you. you were right though.
he was the luckiest boy he knew.

Maybe a little blurb or headcanon on mutual first Valentine’s Day with Rodrick? I’ve never celebrated with anyone and Rodrick gets no bitches so he’d be lost about it all but he tries 🥲
First Valentine's Day (Rodrick Heffley X Reader)
Masterlist
Request Something!
Summary: It’s your and Rodrick’s first time celebrating Valentine’s Day as not single, and you both don’t really know what to do.
***
It really felt like just another day. You were with Rodrick, lying on his bed with him while listening to one of his CDs. He patted the beat of the song on your thigh that was lying across his hips, muttering the lyrics while you looked through one of the magazines he had.
You and Rodrick had been dating for a few months now. This was your first real relationship, and Rodrick’s as well. Although it was still a bit new, you felt comfortable just laying around with him, not needing to talk or do something.
A knock on Rodrick’s door made you jolt, but Rodrick didn’t seem to pay any mind. The door opened, and Susan popped her head into the room.
“Hi, kids!” She said with that signature smile of hers. You smiled at her and said hello back, while Rodrick gave a hum of acknowledgement. “You know, I’m surprised you guys aren’t out right now.”
“Why would we be, Mom?” Rodrick asked, probably waiting for her to shut the door and leave.
“It’s Valentine’s Day, Rodrick!”
You and your boyfriend glanced at each other confusedly and then looked back at Susan. She looked surprised at your reactions.
“Don’t tell me you forgot.” You didn’t have to tell her; it was clear that you had. You and Rodrick never really celebrated Valentine’s Day before, so it didn’t occur to either of you that you were able to do so with each other. “You guys should go out somewhere! Have some fun! But, you know, be safe and be back home by curfew.”
You and Rodrick looked at each other, seeming to have a conversation with just your eyes. There were enough hours left in the day to do something fun, but ideas of what to do exactly didn’t come to mind. There was a chance that Rodrick’s mom would keep pestering you two until you decided to go.
“Wanna go out?” You asked. Rodrick pursed his lips.
“Sure, why not?”
You slipped your shoes on, and the two of you left Rodrick’s room. Susan gave her son some cash, telling you to have fun but not be out too late. Then you left the house and got into Rodrick’s van.
“So…” You buckled your seatbelt and looked at your boyfriend, who was tapping on his steering wheel. “Where should we go?”
He thought for a minute before sighing.
“I dunno.”
The two of you sat in silence, trying to think of an activity that would be worth leaving the comfort of Rodrick’s room. It was so quiet that Rodrick could hear your stomach growl.
“Hungry?” He asked in a teasing voice, laughing as you playfully smacked his arm.
“Shut up.” You tried to sound serious, but a chuckle broke through. “Food, then?”
“Hell yeah.”
***
Rodrick ended up driving to a nearby convenience store, one that he was used to going to with you or his friends. When you hopped out of the van, he grabbed your hand and dragged you inside.
“Mom gave me twenty bucks.” He said, going straight to the slushie machines. You giggled as he unintentionally forced you to pick up your pace, seeing as his legs were longer than yours.
“And we’re gonna spend it all on junk food?” You asked, accepting the large plastic cup that Rodrick grabbed for you.
“Duh!”
Rodrick filled his cup with different blue flavors while you chose red. Then he sped over to the self-serve hot dog station, putting a dog in a bun and covering it with ketchup and mustard. You were a bit more tame with your toppings, grinning at your boyfriend’s enthusiasm.
“I think I’m gonna grab some candy or chips or something.” You say, sliding your hot dog over to Rodrick for him to watch.
“Oh!” He caught your attention before you could leave the aisle. His voice was slightly muffled by the bite of the hot dog he had taken. “Can you get me some-”
“Ruffles?” You guessed, knowing those were some of his favorite chips. He nodded. “Yeah, babe. I’ll be right back.”
You skipped a few aisles over, grabbing Rodrick’s chips before deciding what to grab for yourself. Then you went to look at the candy. Your eyes lit up when you found a bag of typical Valentine’s conversation hearts. Snatching that quickly, you also grabbed a few candy bars before returning to Rodrick.
“That it?” He asked, taking a sip of his slushie. It must’ve been too much too quick because he soon winced. “Ah, brain freeze!”
“Yup!” You answered, laughing at your boyfriend’s scrunched up expression while somehow managing to grab your drink and hot dog. Rodrick grabbed some of the snacks to lighten your load, and the two of you went to the checkout counter.
The total was a little bit more than what Susan had given you. You took out your wallet to help pay the difference, but Rodrick slapped your wrist.
“Put that away, weirdo.” He said, taking out his own wallet and giving the cashier a few extra dollars. You rolled your eyes, pocketing your money and grabbing your hot dog and slushie. You were about to grab the bag that the guy put all your snacks in, but Rodrick beat you to it.
“You’re so chivalrous.” You joked as you left the convenience store, heading back to Rodrick’s van.
“I don’t even know what that means.” The serious, slightly confused tone he had made you laugh. “But thanks. I think.”
***
You and Rodrick went to the park, figuring it was a nice enough day to be outside.
Although, you weren’t really outside. Instead, you sat on the van floor with the side door open to have some fresh air. A blanket Rodrick kept in the van was spread out for the two of you to sit on. Even though it was nice out, there was a bit of wind. Seeing you shiver slightly, Rodrick gave you his black and white checkered jacket.
“Have you ever thought about cleaning this place out?” You asked, looking at the different piles of random junk that Rodrick kept in the vehicle as you zipped up the hoodie. You had to push the sleeves up so they wouldn’t get dirty.
“Not really.” He answered, chomping down on his food.
You looked behind you and grabbed something to show him.
“You have a basketball in here, Roddy. You don’t even play basketball; why do you have this?”
Rodrick pointed at the ball, having an answer. But first, he needed to swallow his food.
“I throw that at Greg’s head sometimes.” You let out a cackle, not expecting an answer like that. You threw the ball over your shoulder, letting it bounce back into the corner it came from.
“You know, I’ve never really celebrated Valentine’s Day before.” You confessed, although you were sure Rodrick already knew that. “But this is pretty fun.”
“Yeah, it is.” He responded, mirroring your smile.
After your food was gone, you brought the candy hearts out of the convenience store bag. You opened the package, looking through them until you found one you liked.
“Here.” You said after a moment of looking, holding out a pink heart and dropping it in Rodrick’s hand. He looked at it and cooed.
“‘Be mine.’” He read before popping the candy in his mouth. “My turn.”
He looked through the little candy bag, soon pulling out a blue heart. After reading the message, he handed it to you.
“‘Kiss me.’” You read, looking back up at Rodrick to see him smirking at you.
“I think you gotta do what it says.”
“I won’t argue with that.” You giggled, leaning forward to kiss Rodrick.
A hand threaded through your hair, the other holding your jaw to keep you close. Not wanting to lean over so much, you shifted on your knees until you were sat in Rodrick’s lap. You wrapped your arms around his neck, and the two of you made out until you were out of breath. When you pulled away, you caught sight of Rodrick’s mouth and giggled.
“What?” Rodrick asked, and he couldn’t help but laugh along even though he didn’t know what was so funny.
“Roddy, your tongue is purple!” The two of you laughed at the evidence of your affection. “Is my tongue purple too?” You stuck it out for him to check, and he clicked his tongue in faux disappointment.
“Could be purple-er.” Rodrick took a large sip of his blue slushie. “I can fix that though.” He said before kissing you again with fervor.
Let’s just say that you left the park with very purple tongues and warm cheeks.

"You know," Xisuma said, peering cautiously over Cub's shoulder at the museum's latest addition, "When you said you wanted to show me a new exhibit, I wasn't expecting…" He trailed off.
Evil Xisuma glowered at him from inside their enclosure.
"…This."
To say Evil X looked a little miffed about the situation would be an understatement. At least Cub had done a nice job decorating, Xisuma thought, between the blackstone and crimson wood, Evil X looked right at home - if they weren't sitting grumpily in their 2-by-1 lava pool, surrounded by the mangled remains of whatever Cub had put in there for enrichment.
"Surprise!" Cub grinned, doing jazz hands at the enclosure, "I know what you might be thinking-"
Xisuma doubted that somehow.
"- 'Cub, Evil Xisuma hasn't done anything this season! They aren't a historic artefact! They shouldn't be in a museum!' But!" Cub wagged a finger triumphantly, "They are important to the history of Hermitcraft as a whole. So really, if you think about it, they definitely belong in a museum."
"… Okay?"
"Glad we're on the same page."
Xisuma wasn't sure if anyone was ever on the same page as Cub. Except maybe Scar.
"Now! As you can see, I've been decorating their enclosure, trying to add some interactive elements for guests and such." Cub pointed towards a line of redstone lamps at the top of Evil Xisuma's enclosure, "These show you how much electricity they're generating when they do their lightning hands thing. I'll be honest with you, it's broken a few times already so it's still a work in progress-"
"… Is that what all the lightning rods are for?" Xisuma frowned, eyeing the entirely lightning rod-ed ceiling.
"It is indeed!" Cub said, ignoring the twinge of concern in Xisuma's voice, "Well, a little. Mostly it's a safety thing, it wouldn't be good to have guests being electrocuted, now would it?"
"I suppose not… And it definitely works?"
"Oh yeah, it's been very thoroughly tested. Hey, Evil Xisuma," Cub walked up to the glass and tapped on it a few times, much to Xisuma's silent horror, "Wanna show X how the lightning rods work?"
In response, Evil Xisuma stuck their middle finger up at him and yelled something muffled to almost inaudibility that sounded a little like: "When I get out of here, I'm going to rip your head off and use it as a coffee mug, you stupid e-boy twink."
The pair on the other side of the glass blinked.
"… That's a no then." Cub turned back to Xisuma, "They do this a lot."
"They certainly do," Xisuma nodded faintly.
"You can probably tell the glass is uh... Mostly noise-cancelling, had to install that because Helsknight is in the next enclosure over and he's still hibernating. You know how Wels gets when you wake him up early, don't wanna find out how that guy is."
"… Of course," Xisuma sighed, pinching the nose bridge of his helmet, "Do I want to know how you got hold of those two?"
Cub laughed in the slightly unhinged way that gave Xisuma visions of Cub spending several weeks toying with the evil hermits as he hunted them for sport, "Nah man, it's not an interesting story."
Somehow, Xisuma doubted that.
"Anyway," Cub said, changing the topic before Xisuma could ask if he knew there was still someone's blood on his left sleeve, "What I really called you for is that I need an Evil Xisuma expert, and you're the man to ask about all things Evil Xisuma."
"Except for Evil Xisuma."
"Except for Evil Xisuma, yes." Cub nodded sagely, "So. Obviously I wanna make sure everything is nice for our new residents, give them plenty of enrichment and all that, but it hasn't been working out so far."
"I can see that."
"Soo… Any suggestions? What kind of thing does Evil X like? Food? Blocks? I dunno, fake derpcoin or something?"
Xisuma hummed, tilting his head in thought as he gazed at Evil Xisuma, who had clambered out of the lava pool to press their hands against the glass and give Xisuma the saddest, most pathetic puppy dog eyes their LED screen could muster (which, admittedly, were very sad and pathetic) in a silent plea to not leave them here with that madman, they'll be good for realsies this time they promise-
"Well," Xisuma said, turning to Cub, "They like to knit, so maybe they'd like some wool… Oh! And if you can find any old Wormman merch, they'll love that too."
Evil Xisuma's head hit the glass with a despairing thunk.

Johnny Cage
He loves showing you off. He keeps you close in public, like to the point where it's genuinely hard to walk because of it. He's pulled you in by the waist, his hand firm. As if you'll escape from him. But, you won't even try. You like this.
So, when some random asshole across the street calls out to you, something something about your boobs, at first he's like "Awh, lil ol' me?". But holy shit. He is seething.
Johnny takes the attention off of you. And inadvertently threatens the loser. Well... it's more than obvious, actually. He's 6'1, built like a statue, and filled with enough rage to make a rabid dog cower.
He doesn't let go of you, though. And he's surprisingly rational. All he really has to do is stare the man down, make him uncomfortable. Beyond so, actually. He's getting quite erotic with this man.
And when the catcaller finally walks away, he relaxes only slightly. Johnny would beat that man to a pulp if he could, but he'd rather not get arrested, nor would he want the press getting a hold of that.
But now, he's more concerned about you. You went from glued to his hip to shying away, a horrible empty, gut-wrenching, nauseous feeling washing over you.
He doesn't allow you to sulk, he's grabbing your hand and power-walking to the car. That's enough of the public, today. And once you two are safely in the car, he's affirming you. Like, absolutely drowning you in the fact that you are his boy, his boyfriend, his and all his and no other man has a right to treat you that way. To talk to you that way. He doesn't have that right, either. At home, he's got a bath drawn immediately, he's picked out clothes for you, and has ordered your favorite food.
Tumblr media
Kenshi Takahashi
He's also about as close as Johnny is to you out in public. But he gives you enough space to walk properly. It's so very clear that you are his.
So, when he heard that sharp whistle, he didn't even have to listen to what the assailant called out. He turns quickly, but he doesn't leave your side. He simply turns.
Kenshi is an ex-gangster, dammit. He could beat this man until he was unrecognizable, he's got all sorts of repentance lined up for the asshole across the street. How many fingers shall he take? Any ink on his skin worth keeping?
But he doesn't move. He doesn't talk. That is enough to make the assailant run off, tail between his legs. And he makes damn sure of it.
Once Kenshi's sure the man is at least a block down, he turns back to you and holds you closely. Almost as if he's hiding you. He doesn't allow you to retreat within yourself, he doesn't even want to think of how you feel.
He walks away quickly, finding a quiet place to calm you down. He's as hands on or off as you want him to be, he understands if suddenly you don't want to be touched.
And he's quick to bring you back to the car, as well. The car ride home is quiet, but he pampers you when you get home. He actually affirms you more than Johnny, he's very insistent and emphasizes every single masculine word, pronoun, everything as he talks. At home, he's already got a little den set up for you, with your favorite books, he'll offer to draw a bath for you, he's ready to cook your favorite food, and has white noise playing from the TV.

"There's no way you actually think 'Return Of The Jedi' is better than 'The Empire Strikes Back'. Like, come on dude, it's so obvious which is better," Ned exclaimed, obviously feeling very strongly about the little debate he had currently going on with Peter.
However, Peter couldn't have been more nonchalant. "Listen, man, I love debating with you but I know where I stand and this is where I draw the line," he shrugged.
Ned opened his mouth, no doubt to argue some more with his best friend, when his gaze shifted to you, "Hey man, maybe we should talk about something Y/N can enjoy too."
That made your head snap up from where you were just toying with the food on your tray. "Don't worry about me guys," you forced a smile, "Honestly, I love watching Ned beat you into a pulp about movies," you looked at Peter.
Peter put on his 'sad-puppy-dog-face', "Ouch babe. You're supposed to side with me here, I'm your boyfriend after all."
"Well, I would've sided with you if you hadn't bailed on me when we were supposed to watch the movies together the other night. If you'd been there then I would've been able to contribute to this conversation and agree with who I genuinely thought was right, which at this moment, I believe, is Ned."
Ned grinned at you from across the table and you two high-fived while Peter just pouted some more, "I'm sorry sweetheart, I really am but y'know I had the internship."
You rolled your eyes, "Of course, I know that. At this point the surprising thing is whenever you don't have that internship," you looked at Ned, "Dude, do you know how many dates and hangouts he's canceled on me? I feel like I should be able to sue at this point. Can you sue someone for wasting your time?"
Ned winced, "Pete, I love you man, but you need to start actually acting like her boyfriend otherwise you won't be her boyfriend for much longer."
Peter's eyes widened a bit but then his face quickly turned nonchalant, "It was just a few slip-ups, don't worry about it," he threw an arm around you and pulled you in, kissing the top of your head, "but you're right, we should talk about something we'd all enjoy."
Laughing, you said, "I told you guys, I enjoy hearing you debate because Ned is always-"
Peter threw a hand up, "Don't finish that sentence. I've had enough of you two fraternizing against me for the day."
You and Ned laughed some more, "Well honestly, you two can continue your...," you waved your hands, " 'old-couple-bickering' and I can scooch down a little and go hang out with M.J.."
Peter pulled you in closer at that, "No don't leave," he muttered in your hair.
"Yeah," Ned started, "let's talk about something else like," he trailed off, "OH, you're managing the school play next week, right? That's gotta be interesting, tell us about that."
"It's really nothing 'Manager' is really just a fun name they stuck on me. Mrs. Lightbody does most of the work."
"Oh come on," Peter said, "when you first got the part, it was all you wanted to talk about. What happened?"
you happened, you thought. It's true, you had been too excited that you'd been chosen to be in charge of everything and you couldn't wait to rant to your boyfriend about just that. That was until he basically ignored you and shook it off as nothing, running away for the stark internship. You hadn't really wanted to talk about it with anybody after that. Maybe it wasn't as cool as you'd thought it was.
You looked down and just shrugged, "Dunno, guess I just didn't think you guys would be interested in it. You've never really shown interest in theater before."
"Well, that was before my gorgeous girlfriend was in charge. Now, go on, tell us what it's like to get a bunch of theater kids on track."
You laughed, "God it's torture. I'm convinced it's some personalized hell made for someone's eternal punishment and I do not envy them."
Peter and Ned laughed along with you, Peter saying, "Yeah I bet. We all know how much you love your control."
You gasped, eyebrows furrowing, "Peter Parker are you saying I'm a control freak?"
He held up both of his hands in surrender, "No of course not babe," he traded a glance with Ned when you weren't looking.
"Anyway," he propped an elbow on the table, rested his head on his palm, and made a motion with his other hand, "continue."
You looked at Ned, "Are you sure I'm not boring you," you asked, shoving your hand in Peter's face when he went to argue.
"Of course not Y/N! Wild, out-of-control theater kids is a favorite subject of mine," he grinned and you huffed a laugh.
"Fine, it's not as easy as I thought'd it be I'll say that. There's always someone way out of line, either singing songs from musicals at the top of their lungs or fighting someone else with the props. One time a kid started climbing the curtain bags and it was disastrous."
You told them all the funny stories you had from the past rehearsals and how you couldn't wait for the upcoming ones.
"Hey these sound fun how come I haven't been to one yet," Peter asked, referring to the rehearsals.
You scoffed, "Please Parker, you can barely make it to a date. There's no way you're gonna make it to one of these."
Peter felt a wave of guilt rush over him. He'd been leaving you hanging a lot lately.
"I'm sorry Y/N/N, really I am. But I want to come to one of these. I want to see you doing your thing. In fact, when's the next one I'll be there," he sounded so sure of himself but you weren't.
"Um," you hesitated, not really sure if you should answer him, "They're every other day after school until opening night. But Peter, honestly, you don't have to come I know how busy your schedule is and you barely fit in things that you need to do, I seriously doubt you have the time to voluntarily do this," you told him, refusing to get your hopes up.
"Hey," he leaned closer to you, "I know I haven't been the best boyfriend lately but I promise I'm going to be there for you today."
"Peter," you said quietly not being able to meet his eyes and that alone made his heartbreak, "Don't make promises you can't keep. That never ends well."
"Hey if I said I'll be there, then I'll be there. come on, gotta have a little more faith in me than that sweetheart," he smiled a little, letting it grow into a grin when he saw your lips tugging up at the corners of your mouth.
"Promise," you asked.
"Promise," he confirmed, leaning in for a sweet kiss. Maybe he could really be there for you this time instead of-
Something hit the side of your face making you both turn your heads towards your other friend. You looked down to find a bunch of rolled-up napkins lying on the floor.
"Well as glad as I am that y'all got that settled, let us remember that this is a public space," Ned said making you both laugh.
"So it's settled, meet you in the auditorium after last period right," Peter asked you, trying to make sure he had the times correct.
"Oh," you replied, a little shocked that he was actually doing this, "Yeah, if you're showing up then I guess so."
peter laughed, "Y/N come on, what did we just have an entire conversation about? Of course, I'm showing up."
You nodded slowly then looked towards Ned, "I didn't hit my head anywhere just a minute ago, did I?"
Ned just shrugged, "I'm just as surprised as you are Y/N. Peter needs to step up his game and I'm sure the internship can wait an evening. After all," he gave Peter a hard look before an amused expression took over his face, "After all, what is an internship if not just running around making copies of random things and memorizing dozens of different coffee orders."
"Hey man come on, we've been over this." he nodded his head towards you and widened his eyes slightly, but you didn't notice, too busy taking a sip from your chocolate milk, "This isn't just any internship. I have to be available at every moment in case Mr. Stark decides he needs me on something."
"Mhm, whatever," Ned took a bite of his sandwich, "All I'm saying is that no matter how important it is, you need to learn to divide up your time evenly."
"Don't worry Ned, I'll be sure to sign him up for some time management classes," you said seriously, making Ned choke on his food from laughter.
Peter sighed, one arm still resting on the table, the palm of it holding his head. his other arm tucked away under the table, hand holding yours.
you were feeling amazing, your mood completely lifted now. Peter was finally making the first step to fix things after your many failed attempts. Things could start going back to how they were at the beginning of your relationship. sweet, caring, and mutual.
You were so sick of feeling like this whole thing was one-sided but now things finally looked like they were turning up.
Little did you know.
Tumblr media
When the day finally ended you couldn't wait. Spending time with Peter while hanging out with your new friends (somewhat, you weren't really sure but you were optimistic) seemed like it be such a good time. Almost too good to be true.
You rushed towards your locker and gathered your stuff before shooting Peter a text that you'll just meet him in the auditorium.
You arrived there before anyone else, which was typical, everyone would be wandering the halls with their friends for a while before making their way here. The cast and crew might mess around a bit but in the end, they were extremely passionate about what they did and you knew that in the end, the show would be amazing. They were all incredibly talented.
little by little everyone started filing in in little groups. You searched them all for Peter but he was never a part of them. Oh well, he was probably caught up with Ned and MJ at the moment. He'll be here in a bit.
When the majority of people were present you, reluctantly, decided you had to get things started whether Peter was here yet or not. Everyone had to start getting to work and he should be here any minute now.
"Ok everyone, you've been wandering around long enough. Time to get started," you clapped your hands together, a clipboard held under your arm, "Noah, Jack, and Lacy we've got to start making progress on the set and I don't want paint everywhere we've had one paint fight too many," you narrowed your eyes at Noah and Jack who looked down sheepishly. It had been a mess. It'd looked as if a pride parade had thrown up all over the stage.
"This background is our last chance and if you mess it up again we'll probably have to cancel and if that happens, I will not hesitate to unleash Lexi on you," you gestured towards the girl who glared at them and you could've sworn you saw them pale which made smile a small smile.
You pulled out your clipboard to skim through and see what was on the agenda. "Where's our light-man," you asked and looked up. Everyone shrugged looking around until a girl, Martha, spoke, "Lenny had a teacher meeting, he's running a bit late but he'll be here."
You nodded, "Martha that reminds me, how's your mom doing with the costumes? does she have everything she needs?"
Martha nodded quickly, "Measurements and everything. All of them should be ready a few days before the big day and she'll be here that night for any mending that might be needed." She shot you two big thumbs up.
"Good, good, good," you muttered under your breath. You looked around at everyone and shrugged lightly, "OK so I guess everyone just rehearse your lines, get to work and we should be good for the next couple of hours."
Chatter quickly spread across the large room as everyone got together working and talking. You sat down on a seat and let out a long sigh. You tugged your phone out of your pocket and looked for a new message from Peter. There was nothing. You sent two more and added a call for good measure. He didn't pick up, it just rang all the way through. Maybe he got caught up with a teacher. Or maybe he got detention and didn't get a chance to tell you.
You had more important things to get to and Peter would get here whenever he got the chance. He'd promised after all. So you shouldn't worry about it too much.
You started making rounds around all the groups of working teenagers, stopping when you saw Lexi waving you over to her little group which mostly consisted of the main cast.
You walked over to them, "And how's everything going over here? Any trouble?" They all shook their heads.
"Actually, I think we're getting along rather well, it's a great cast you've rounded up here miss Y/L/N," Mrs. Lightbody said, making you feel extremely proud.
"I actually wanted to talk to you," Lexi said kindly.
"Oh? What's up, Lex." She grabbed your hand and led you a little farther away from the group, turning and shooting them a quick reassuring smile.
Lexi was the star of the whole play, playing the main character, so you'd worked with her closely these past few weeks. She helped you with even the slightest things so you wouldn't get too stressed or anxious (she claimed you were the only sane person in the whole group and it needed to stay that way). She was undoubtedly the most excited person about the whole play and you couldn't blame her, you could already tell from just practice that she was going to do amazing. She was on the popular side where school cliques were involved, but she was always such a sweetheart. She quickly became a great friend of yours and you hoped it stayed that way even after the play and all these fun little get-togethers were over.
"Hey, Y/N I noticed you seemed a little off before. I'm sorry if I'm out of line saying this but I just wanted to check in on you and make sure everything was okay. Anything going on? I'm always here to listen if you need to talk," she smiled one of her heartwarming smiles.
You were a little shocked that she'd noticed, "Thanks Lex, really, but I'm fine I promise. but thank you so much for looking out for me."
she had a look on her face like she didn't believe you but she didn't push it, which you appreciated, "ok well if you decide you want to talk about I'm always around I promise," she grabbed you into a hug which you gladly accepted. she pulled away and squeezed your shoulder before heading back to the group.
You loved her but really there was nothing wrong. Because Peter was gonna show up. Even if he hadn't answered you yet. He's gonna show up, follow you like a lost puppy, and marvel at your every move in that way of his to the point where it got annoying, and you were gonna make him swear to never come to one of these again. To which he would pout and give you puppy-dog eyes and you'd both forget whatever it was you'd said.
He had to come. otherwise, you might seriously start considering Ned's words from earlier. or you won't be her boyfriend for much longer.
Peter had to show up because maybe your whole relationship was on the line.
Tumblr media
An hour of a bunch of nonsense arguing passed until you finally heard the press of the large auditorium doors opening up.
Your heart flew when you saw the large mess of brunette curls turned to close the doors. however, your hope quickly deflated as soon as the figure turned around. it was just Lenny the light-man.
"Lenny, great. I need you to start working on the lights and getting them ready," you told him. He nodded and quickly made his way backstage.
You were totally bummed. peter hadn't even replied to you so you had no clue what was going on. you'd even gone so far as to text Ned who'd just sent you a shrugging emoji and an apology for not knowing where he was.
You felt a little broken, with each passing minute, your hope that your boyfriend might still show up dying down.
You were desperate so you walked down to the side of the stage where Lexi was chatting with her 'co-star' Brad Davis, who played her love interest.
You walked up to them, your hand lightly grabbing Lexi's shoulder which brought her attention to you, "Can I talk to you," you whispered. She nodded quickly. You looked towards Brad whose attention was already on you, "Is it alright if I just steal her for a moment," you sent him a fake smile. He smiled back, "No don't worry about it, she's all yours."
He looked like he was might say something else but you didn't give him the chance to before dragging your friend away from all the commotion, "I'm ready to talk now."
She looked at you knowingly before sitting down and patting the spot next to her. So you sat and you told her everything. You told her about all the missed dates, how sometimes he'd just ignore you completely making it impossible to reach him and come back and act like nothing happened, how it always seemed like he was hiding something, and how you were so tired.
And she listened, of course, never making you feel like you were being overdramatic, and making you feel something that Peter always failed to. Seen.
When you finally finished Lexi looked at you with total sympathy-eyes, you hated it but you sucked it up because you had chosen to talk to her.
"Permission to speak freely?" she asked hesitantly. You nodded quickly, "Yes of course, please do that's why I came to you in the first place."
"Dump his ass," she deadpanned. Your eyes widened in shock as you looked at her. "Really?" you asked. She nodded, "Y/N, I love you but it's obvious that this boy doesn't. Because if he did there's no way he'd test you like that, I mean, he's standing you up right now when he promised he'd be here. I say end it before it gets worse. But hey," she held up both hands, "If you think I'm out of line saying that I totally understand but I'm just telling you what I'd do if I was in your shoes."
"You think I should dump him," you mumbled looking down, not really believing it. You'd thought about it sure, what would happen if you two weren't together anymore but you'd never considered it an option, let alone a solution.
"Thanks, Lex, I'll think about it," you gave her a tight smile and she smiled back. "I just hope you do whatever feels best for you Y/N, you've been looking down lately and you don't deserve that." She gave your hand a squeeze and one last smile before she went back to practice.
You weren't seriously thinking about ending things with Peter, you were too scared to lose him. Your friendship was more important than any relationship ever could be. But the longer he went as a no-show the more it ran through your brain for the rest of rehearsal. Peter never texted or called. You were desperate for a simple "sorry" at this point, not wanting to have to settle for the worst option. But as time went on, the less it seemed like an option and more like a task. Something you had to do, that had to be done—something new to check off your clipboard.
Rehearsal ended and people left in groups as they had come. You lingered, smiling and saying you had just a few things to check up on before you left whenever someone took regard for your incessant hovering. Soon enough you were the only person in the big empty room.
You sat at the edge of the stage, legs dangling, and pulled out your phone from your pocket. You sent one last text, we need to talk.
After about ten minutes of waiting there, you decided it was getting late and you had to get home before it was too dark. maybe you could convince your parents to let you head over to Peter's after dinner and you could get over with it then. your mind was made up. you were gonna break up with him.
You gathered your things and made your way up to the big double doors. The hallways were quiet and you were hyperaware of every step of yours. It was weird to see the school so dead, a big contrast to the usual packed hallways. The more you thought about it the more it was like you could almost hear the running footsteps of students. No scratch that, student. Okay at this point it started sounding too real.
You turned around to catch your boyfriend speeding down the hallway, skidding to a stop when you saw you.
"Oh my god Y/N, I'm so sorry I totally lost track of time. I was just helping May out with a few things and next thing I know-"
You held up a hand to stop him, "Save it Peter I really don't care."
His face fell, "But, hey, let me make it up to you! Let's go get some ice cream or something. You can tell me what rehearsal was like today and I'll walk you home after. It's getting dark."
You crossed your arms. you almost wanted to agree but you knew better than that, this whole thing was getting way too much for you to handle.
"Peter I'm done," you told him simply. he looked at you a little confused, "done...done with what?"
"This," you almost screamed as you pointed at the two of you, "I'm done with this, this whole act because, let's face it, we both know you weren't helping May with shit." you were surprised you had gotten this far without crying and you wanted to keep it that way so you sucked in a breath and tried to steady your heartbeat.
The guilty look in his eyes told you enough. you were right. he moved the slightest step closer but you moved back, you really didn't feel like touching him at the moment. "come on sweetheart," he said weakly, "there's gotta be something I can do. I promise I'll show up on time more, you'll never have to wait for me again. I'll be around you so much you'll get sick of me. just please don't do this."
"That's the thing, Peter," you groaned, "I don't want to be sick of you but I'm sick of the way you keep treating me. you make me feel like shit Peter. you're my boyfriend and you make me feel terrible. and I keep trying to help you out, coming up with different excuses each time but I've finally run out. I want a stable relationship and you can't give me that so I'm done."
His eyes were red now and you had to push back the guilt you were feeling, he brought this upon himself. it's true, you wouldn't have done this unless it was absolutely necessary. you loved him but you just couldn't handle it anymore.
"I can," his voice broke slightly on that last word, "I can give you that y/n just give me another chance to show you."
You huffed, "Well Peter, part of a stable relationship is honesty. can you be honest and tell me where you were today? 'Cause it's been established that you weren't with May."
He froze a little and you continued, "In fact, why don't you tell me where you were when you missed all those dates, all those couple hangouts, and all those group hangouts? When you missed my parents' anniversary dinner that they invited you to, or my little brother's birthday party that he was really excited you'd be there for. Go ahead Pete," you flung out your arms, "tell me where you were and I'll believe you can give me a stable relationship."
He looked physically conflicted, as if he was genuinely having an inner battle with himself, "I- I can't y/n/n, but you have to believe me when I say it's for the best."
"And I can't Peter. I can't so just forget this," you cleared your throat, "Come back when you can actually handle a relationship Parker, or you know what, don't because either way, I'm through with this."
You turned to walk away. his hand reached out to grab your wrist but you dodged it and held your hand up, "I don't think we should talk anymore," you kept walking and he didn't follow. You didn't want him to. But in all honesty, it was hard to turn your back when the person you were leaving was always the one you ran to when your heart shattered as it did right then.
the cold air hit you hard and the tears finally came, slightly smudging the concealer under your eyes but you couldn't care less at the moment.
It was true what he'd said, it was dark already and windy so you tried to be alert on your way home, deciding you could process all your emotions when you're home safe.
You were walking for a bit, wiping your tears and trying to keep your vision clear when you heard a slight thud next to you and footsteps matching up to catch yours. "Hello Miss, it's pretty dark, can I walk you home?"

or literally anything else is fine too if this doesn’t strike your fancy lol<3 tysm!!!
hello!! i loved this so much, u are a gem for requesting it <3
acacia: a hidden relationship + sunflower: drunken rambling about their adoration, jamie tartt x kent!reader (no physical descriptors so imagine whatever sibling type u want!), 2k
“Are you sure we can’t tell him about us?” Jamie’s voice from where he was fixing his hair in the mirror pulled you away from your book and you glanced over at him.
This was a question he posed to you all the time, and every single time, your answer was the same—though getting more creative with the details with every occurance.
“Do you want my brother to gouge your eyeballs out? Cut off your dick? Possibly murder you?”
Jamie paled, freezing in place. “Not particularly.”
“Then no, we can’t tell Roy we’re seeing each other.” You picked up your book again, ready to resume your reading, but Jamie let out a noise resembling that of a kicked puppy’s whine. His shoulders slumped and he trudged over to you, throwing himself down on the bed in front of your crossed legs.
Setting your book aside for good this time, you watched him make himself comfortable with his head in your lap, cheek pressed against your thigh as he looked up at you with the puppy dog eyes to match his previous whine.
“I hate all the secrets. I have to lie to him, straight to his scary face, every fuckin’ day. D’you know how stressful that is? How stressed I am?” He huffed. You bumped your knuckles against his chin affectionately.
It wasn’t fair, Jamie having to face Roy and lie everyday when you had to do it a tad less often, but it was a necessary evil. One day, you’d tell your brother, but first you had to figure out how.
This, among other reasons, were the downsides to being in a secret relationship with Jamie. There were tons of upsides too, no doubt about it.
You had the privilege of seeing a softer, sweeter side of him that was reserved only for you, but you couldn’t go out in public with him. Nights in were your favorite dates, but sometimes you wanted to go to a fancy restaurant and eat expensive food and share a dessert with your boyfriend without needing to worry about the tabloids having a field day of it all.
You could already see the headlines if the press ever caught wind of your relationship—AFC Ricmond Star Jamie Tartt Bags Manager Roy Kent’s Sister. They’d stir shit up, claim that Jamie was only with you because your brother was in a position of power over him and who knows what else.
Most of all, you certainly couldn’t let Roy find out you were seeing one of his players, especially not Jamie fucking Tartt. They were friends now, but he’d always been overly protective of his sisters ever since you were all kids. He’d throw a fit and probably kill Jamie, then you. Well, he probably wouldn’t go that far, but you’d definitely be on his bad side until he got over himself. And you loved your brother to death, but he was a dickhead sometimes.
“I’m gonna get early wrinkles, love. You don’t want me to have those, do ya?”
“I think you’d look adorable with wrinkles. Like a cute little old man.” You dotted a kiss to his forehead, attempting to smooth out the crinkle between his eyebrows with your thumb.
“That’s not funny.”
“It’s a bit funny.”
“Right, since you obviously don’t appreciate my problems, I’m off.” Jamie heaved himself off the bed, forcing out a rather overexaggerated sigh. You smiled innocently at him and he rolled his eyes, his own soft smile still on his face. He leaned down to press a kiss to your lips before heading for the door. “Dunno when I’ll be back but don’t wait up for me, yeah?”
“Have fun, my love. I’ll just be here, thinking about you with wrinkles.”
“Still not funny!”
The Greyhounds were out in full swing tonight. Colin had somehow managed to book an entire pub for a whole night so they could drink and have a good time without being swarmed by the press vying for any morsel of gossip about one of the best up and coming Premier League clubs. Good friends, good food, even better beer—what more could anyone ask for?
Jamie had been taking full advantage of it. That, paired with the fact that he no longer had to follow that god awful diet that deprived him of his beloved ice cold beverage, had led him to where he was right now, leaning heavily against the bar, drunk off his ass due to some sort of drinking game Jan Maas had insisted on teaching him.
See, tipsy Jamie was fun. Very generous, would offer to buy a round or two, good for a few funny stories the next day. Absolutely pissed Jamie was a textbook oversharer. He didn’t make much sense, so everyone just mumbled a ‘very cool, mate!’ or something of the sort, made sure he didn’t topple over—those kinds of things.
Roy was nursing his own beer next to Jamie tonight, half-listening in contained amusement as the Mancunian babbled on and on about someone. Who the fuck it was, Roy had no idea, but it was good entertainment and had soon garnered the attention of the rest of the team. Maybe this could be another one of those funny stories they could joke about in the locker room tomorrow.
“She don’t look anythin’ like you, thank god. Imagine—imagine that! A lady Roy. Shit’s mad!” Jamie mused, amber beer spilling over the lip of the pint. “Nah, she’s the prettiest and the funniest and the coolest person ever and I love her.”
“Who the fuck are you talkin ‘bout, bruv?” Isaac asked incredulously, looking just as amused as everyone else.
“Mate, I’m talkin’ ‘bout me girlfriend,” Jamie said very as-a-matter-of-factly, like they should’ve known that. “Duh.”
“You’ve got a girlfriend? Since fucking when?”
Jamie counted off on his fingers, scrunching his nose in thought. “Erm…four, five months? Maybe six?” He shook his head quickly, correcting himself. “No, not six. Would’ve done something special for six, wouldn’t I?”
“First I’m hearing of it. How ‘bout you boys, did you know Jamie had a girlfriend?” Isaac asked, looking around. A chorus of ‘no’s and similar answers sounded amongst the others. Jamie’s brow furrowed. “It’s settled then. Who’s got the heart of the great Jamie Tartt?”
“Good rhyme, boyo!” Colin chimed in, clapping his best friend on the back.
Isaac looked proud of himself. “Whoa. I’m a fucking poet and I didn’t even know it.” He accepted another few praises before turning his attention back to Jamie, who looked like he was thinking really long and hard about something. “Okay, back to you. Tell us about her.”
“I don’t even know where t’start, man,” Jamie sighed happily, resting his chin in his palm. “She’s kind and warm and—and she knows me better than anyone. It’s like…it’s like she’s an angel.”
It was kind of weird, hearing Jamie be so open about his feelings for another person. He’d always been one to play things close to the vest, so that’s how they knew things with this secret girlfriend had to be serious.
Sam beamed, happy as ever that his friend had found someone special. “Surely the angel from above has a name? Maybe one of us knows her?”
“Y/N.”
The room fell silent. Everyone turned to look at Roy, who looked like he was about to start punching dicks.
“Y/N, like…Roy’s sister, that Y/N?” Sam replied hesitantly, drawing pointed looks from every single one of his teammates. “I’m just confirming! There are other people named Y/N in London, you know.”
Jamie pointed in his teammate’s general direction, nodding aimlessly. “Yep, her. That’s my girl.”
Roy stood from his seat without a word, grabbing Jamie under the arm and dragging him towards the door.
“Hey man, what the fuck are you—”
“Just fucking shut up, will you?”
“Okay.”
You were about to call it quits on finishing your book and turn in for the night when the doorbell rang. When you went to open it, you definitely weren’t expecting to see your brother standing on your doorstep, practically carrying your half asleep boyfriend and looking like he’d rather be anywhere else.
“Your prick boyfriend got proper pissed. Where do I put him?”
So Roy knew. And judging by the way Jamie was swaying on his feet, you guessed that he’d been the one to let the cat out of the bag.
“Erm, couch is fine. I’ll get him settled later.” You opened the door a little wider to let them in and Roy grunted his acknowledgement, hauling Jamie over to the couch and promptly dumping him onto the cushions.
Jamie didn’t even flinch when his face hit the pillows, instead just letting out a dreamy sort of sigh and smacking his lips together without even opening his eyes. You were the one to roll him over onto his side, nudging the dustbin right near his head before covering him with a blanket.
“How much did he drink?” You asked, smoothing the walnut mist strands away from his eyes.
“Too fucking much, that’s how much.” Roy grumbled. He wandered over towards a different area of your flat, not wanting to wake Jamie. “Jan Maas taught him a Dutch drinking game, except that fucker can actually hold his alcohol.”
You cast a fond glance back at your boyfriend, smiling softly at his peaceful face. “Yeah, this one can’t really drink much anymore. Said it’s because of your training regimen, the no beer thing.”
“Of fucking course you’d know.”
“I assume Jamie told you about us.” You said quietly, picking at a loose thread on the sleeve of your jumper instead of looking at Roy. Another vague low noise of acknowledgement from him, though it sounded a bit more strained this time. “If it helps you come to terms, Jamie’s been wanting to tell you for ages. I was the one who wanted to keep it under wraps.”
“Why?”
You let out a humorless chuckle, shaking your head. “‘Cause I knew what you’d think. Knew what you’d have to say about it.”
“Are you a mindreader?”
“No.”
“Then how would you know what I’d think?”
“Oh come on, Roy, you don’t think I know how you are? You get…dickish. I still remember you scaring off poor Billy Montgomery in year nine!”
“Billy Montgomery was a fucking wanker, that’s why.”
“Yeah, I know that now,” You huffed, scowling. Roy raised an expectant brow at you. “You’ve always been outspoken about the people I date. I just—I didn’t want you to be that way with Jamie. I know you’ve had your differences, and I know you’ve made up, but…I dunno, I was just worried about what you’d think of us.”
“Do you love him?” Roy asked stiffly. There was a tic going in the hard line of his jaw when he forced his gaze to yours, and it almost looked like he was in the middle of shitting a brick. If you hadn’t been so nervous about his reaction, you probably would’ve laughed.
“I do. A lot, actually. He’s…everything I could’ve asked for. Everything I’ve ever wanted in a partner.”
“Then it shouldn’t fucking matter what I think.” Roy said. “Jamie makes you happy, and that is the only thing that matters.”
To say you were taken aback was an understatement. You’d been so worried about how you thought your brother was going to react to the news, you never stopped to consider that maybe Jamie wasn’t the only person who’d been working to change for the better.
“Thank you, Roy.”
Caught up in your heartfelt sibling talk, neither of you had noticed Jamie had woken up and stumbled over to the two of you until he gathered the two of you into a rather squished hug.
“My two favorite people, the Kent siblings! You guys are the best!” He slurred, nuzzling into the embrace. Roy let out a growl, but he patted Jamie’s back stiffly nonetheless. You had to stifle another laugh at how utterly uncomfortable he looked right now. “Oh fuck, I think I’m gonna throw up—”
“That’s it, I’m fucking leaving.” Roy shoved Jamie away from him, wiping his hands off on the front of his jacket and heading for the front door. “Make sure he doesn’t choke on his own vomit and tell him he’s still got training tomorrow, I don’t care how shitty he feels!”

im talking abt witch au in a server so im posting another scene from it. this time Ren fuckign dies.
Martyn hears the fuss before he sees it. He’s looking for Ren—the dog ran off, but the sun has broken through the trees, so Martyn figures it’s not the dog he’s looking for anymore. Ren’s probably sitting naked in the forest somewhere, and as treatable as it would be, Martyn plans to find him before he catches a cold.
“Don’t let him up—you saw how big his claws were,” says a voice Martyn only sort of recognizes, though what he says is…
“I’m not stupid. I’m not taking any risks with this thing—I’m not catching whatever he’s got,” another voice, even less familiar.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” this voice, Martyn cannot mistake—Ren.
Martyn steps a bit closer. He’s just outside the edge of the clearing, ducking behind a tree. Not immediately obvious to anyone in the center, though Martyn can see Ren from his hiding place. He’s surrounded by a few men—Martyn doesn’t know their names, but he knows them to be some of Ren’s neighbors. Most of them steer clear of Ren, but one has his boot on the back of Ren’s neck.
Ren’s hands are muddy. There’s dirt under his nails and across his stomach. Hair falls around his face, and blood stains his teeth and chin. He looks like an animal, and Martyn’s heart hurts looking at him.
“Must be full from whatever you already ate, you piece of shit,” the first voice says, and Martyn hears Ren make a choked noise of pain—the man must be increasing the pressure. “Whose blood is that?!”
“No one’s!” Ren’s wheezing, just a bit, “I caught a deer, that’s all.”
“A deer never satisfies a thing like you.”
Ren is caught and there’s no doubt about it, and that means there’s nothing left Martyn can do for him. His cloak is dark, and though the rising sun means it won’t help him hide as well, it’s still effective. If Martyn slips away now, he’ll… he can…
“My cousin had a wolfman in his town. He said it didn’t stop hunting until it had found a man big enough to chew on until the sun rose again.”
“I didn’t! I wouldn’t,” Ren insists, “You know me, I’ve lived here since I was born. I wouldn’t. You know that!”
Martyn tugs his hood on, biting the inside of his mouth. He needs to leave, but leaving Ren is…
“Oh, sure,” scoffs someone else, “And I knew you were human, too. But you’ve turned, and you can't trust a wolf.”
Ren actually whimpers, a sound Martyn has only ever heard him make as the dog. It hurts to hear, but it has Martyn taking an uncertain step to the side, unsure if he wants to run away.
He threw Ren to the wolves the first time Ren came to him in order to protect himself—he could have cured Ren, but he didn’t, wanting to keep from the magic he’d have to use for a cure being discovered and reported.
Ren wouldn’t have reported him. He knows that now. If he’d cured Ren, this wouldn’t be happening.
…But it is. Ren is doomed, and what can Martyn even do? He’s not a hero. He’s barely—
“Hey!” someone calls. Martyn’s head snaps up, and he locks eyes with the owner of the voice. “There’s someone else there! Who are you?!”
Martyn takes a step back, but the nearest man grabs him by the arm, yanking him into the light. Ren twists his head under the boot on his neck, and his face pales as Martyn is dragged into the light.
“Christ, do you mind?! Jeez!” Martyn says, shaking the man’s hand off. He brushes his sleeve, annoyed—he’s doing his absolute best to play the part of a random passerby, “What on earth is going on here? I came out to collect some medicinal herbs, and you’ve got some guy under your… is that Ren?”
“Used to be. Wolf’s curse has him now. Who knows how long ago he turned,” someone says, “Dunno if you’ve ever really met Ren, Doctor.”
“You’re collecting herbs, you said?” another says, “Why don’t you have any in your basket?”
Martyn looks down and bites back a swear. All he brought was food, water, and a cloak and some loose pants for Ren—obvious ties, and a clear contradiction to his alibi.
“Yeah, just woke up and came out for them, though I haven’t found any,” Martyn says, “Easiest to look for by sunlight.”
“You know, Doctor, I heard something weird about you,” says the one with a shoe on Ren’s neck. Ren lets out a choked noise, another pound of pressure on his spine. “I heard you were seen with the wolf a few months ago.”
“What? Like, Ren?” Martyn asks, playing innocent, “Sure, Ren comes to my stand, but I thought he was sick…?”
“Not at your stand. In the night,” the man says, “I heard you’re fraternizing with rabid animals. You’re a witch.”
Martyn laughs, a touch nervous, “A witch? No. I’m a great doctor and all, but I’m not magic.”
“You were commanding the wolf-thing, making it obey you. Only a witch could do that,” the man insists, “Joseph’s wife saw you. She looked out the window at the awful beast and saw it knock your hood down before it submitted to your command.”
“That’s— your friend’s wife must have mistaken me for someone else,” Martyn says.
“My wife knows what she saw!” says a man who must be Joseph, not that Martyn cares to turn around and check which one that is.
“You’ve been spending time with him even when he’s not in the form of a monster,” someone says, and Martyn sweats. He should have kicked Ren out, he should have decided not to check on Ren that night, he should have—
“Martyn’s helping me with the other symptoms,” Ren’s voice cuts through Martyn’s spiraling. Martyn’s head snaps down to watch as Ren attempts to look up at his captors. “I didn’t tell him about my— my curse. He didn’t know. I didn’t tell him.”
“Doesn’t make him not a witch.”
“He’s not!” Ren insists, “He’s a friend I lied to. Nothing else.”
“The witch was commanding him,” says another man, taking a step closer to Martyn. There’s an axe in his hand, still clean. “He must be commanding Ren now. Why else would Ren defend him?”
“He didn’t do anything!” Ren insists, “I swear. I swear, Martyn hasn’t used any magic. Please leave him alone, please.”
Martyn looks down at Ren begging on the ground and his stomach turns with nausea. Ren isn’t prideful, exactly, but like this he seems to have no pride at all.
It shreds Martyn inside to see him like that. Even now, it’s not his own life he’s begging for—Ren wants to protect Martyn. Christ, and Martyn had been about to leave him.
Martyn knows how it’ll make him look, but he pulls the cloak out of his basket and steps toward Ren.
“I’m not going to do anything,” Martyn says, holding up the cloak to show the men, “But c’mon. He’s not an animal. Ren’s always been a good man. Let him have some semblance of his dignity before you kill him.”
“Careful,” the man with a foot on Ren says, “This isn’t Ren anymore. If you’d seen the claws on him…”
“I’ll be careful,” Martyn says, “Just let him up a second. He’s got no claws anymore.”
The man with a foot on Ren’s neck stares, then releases their hold on him. Martyn only hesitates a moment before kneeling in front of Ren, throwing the cloak over him like a blanket.
“Sit up,” Martyn whispers, dropping his hand to Ren’s hair. He threads his fingers through for barely a moment before removing them, “Don’t die lying down in the dirt.”
Ren does as he’s told, sitting up and pulling the cloak around his front. He doesn’t look much better—he’s still dirty, with a bloody chin and knotted hair—but at least he can claim some small piece of pride.
The way he looks at Martyn is devastating. This close, Martyn can see the sad, guilty eyes, the defeated hang of his shoulders. Martyn may have known he was doomed when he saw him here, but it’s another thing to see defeat so obvious on the face of someone so stubborn and headstrong as Ren.
Martyn actually gets up and takes a step back—he can’t be that close to Ren looking at him like that.
The man who had been standing on Ren earlier drops his sword down, holding the edge below Ren’s neck. Ren doesn’t flinch—less an admirable display of courage, and more a simple acceptance of what’s to come.
“So, Doctor, why did you have that with you?” the man asks, “You’re already wearing a cloak. You wouldn’t carry it unless you knew someone would need it.”
Martyn looks at his basket. There’s still a pair of pants in there, making his alibi tricky.
“I did know he’d need it,” Martyn admits, quiet.
“I told him. I asked him to bring it. I didn’t tell him why,” Ren lies again, fingers tight on the edge of the cloak.
“Like hell! He was with you, wasn’t he?!” the man says.
“The wolf defending him is proof. He must be brainwashed by the witch’s magic,” another man says.
“Monsters have to stick together. Just get rid of them both!”
“No,” Martyn says, “Look, Ren, I appreciate you lying for me, but you don’t have to. I did know about Ren’s affliction, but we were treating it as just that—an illness. I’ve been trying to help him treat it for the past few months. I never commanded him, never spent a night with him, but we’ve tried a few medicines to lessen the effects of the moon on him and keep him in check. I knew, but not because I’m a witch. I’m a doctor, and Ren came to me as a patient looking for a cure. That’s all.”
“Why wouldn’t you just report him?!”
“Like I said,” Martyn says, taking another step back, “Ren’s always been a good man.”
Someone grabs Martyn’s arm, stopping him from moving any further back.
“Good enough to make yourself this damn suspicious for?” he asks, “Because the way I see it, you protected him ‘cuz you’re a witch, and he’s your bitch.”
Martyn resists the urge to cringe at the taunt, trying his best to maintain that aloof doctor facade he’s been wearing so effortlessly for years. He scoffs, folding his arms.
“No one is good enough to make myself this suspicious over. Especially not some wolfman I just met,” Martyn says, “But could you imagine how much money I’d have made if I’d actually cured him? There’s no one else in the world who could do that. I could charge anything I wanted for it. I saw the chance and I took it, but clearly, it hasn’t paid off.”
Ren says nothing, face unreadable, and Martyn scrambles to make it clear he’s lying.
“Hell,” Martyn adds, gesturing one arm at Ren, “I could charge Ren anything I wanted. He couldn’t not pay what I asked—at best, I would stop trying to cure him. At worst, I could report what he was to everyone. Shame it had to end this way, though.”
“I knew I shouldn’t have trusted you,” Ren whispers. There’s a venom to it Martyn has never seen from Ren before, far more convincing than Martyn expects. Ren’s head snaps up, and the pain in his eyes has a fire behind it now, “You were supposed to help me!”
“I would’ve! But I don’t want to be a small town doctor forever,” Martyn says, “The city’s much nicer. I almost have enough to open my own practice, and a few more, er… we’ll say treatments for you would have helped a lot. Especially if any of them had actually worked.”
“Is that all you wanted from me? My money?” Ren asks.
“I mean, sure. What’s a wolfman need with money, anyway?” Martyn asks, “Your lot never live long. Do you mind if I collect your estate after this? It’s not much anymore, but it’d be really nice to sell the rest.”
“Bastard,” Ren spits.
“That doesn’t sound like a no,” Martyn says, and Ren bares his teeth into a snarl. Almost immediately, the sword at his neck cuts into his flesh, turning his growl into a sound of pain.
“Stop riling him up,” the man says, “We don’t know what he’s capable of.”
“Right,” Martyn says, putting up his arms and taking another step back. If they knew Ren like he does, they’d know the answer is nothing. Ren wouldn’t hurt any of them.
Not that Ren defends himself. He keeps glaring at Martyn, and though it hurts, it’s better than the despair.
“We need him dead. We’ve stalled long enough already,” the man holding Martyn’s arm says.
“Just run him through already!” says someone behind him.
“Drown him, wolves can’t swim,”
“Yes they can! You have to burn them.”
“That’s witches, idiot!”
Ren seems a bit paler as they argue. Martyn can only imagine how he feels—these are neighbors he’s known all his life, and now they’re debating his manner of death right in front of him. It’s the end of the line, and a gruesome one at that.
“No! All of you are wrong. You have to cut its head off,” someone else yells, “Wolfmen are sturdy, they don’t die any other way.”
“Hey, Doctor,” the man with the sword says. “Do you ever treat animals?”
“Occasionally,” Martyn says, unsure if he likes the question.
“Have you ever put down a dog?”
“What?” Martyn asks. His callous costume slips for a moment, though he’s quick to put it back on. “Sure, once or twice. I don’t usually bother with treating dogs, though.”
“You bothered with a wolf.”
“A lucrative wolf. People don’t pay as much for dogs as they would themselves,” Martyn says, “Medicine doesn’t generalize that much, you know. I don’t know how to treat anything on an animal beyond stitching up a wound.”
“Sure, sure,” the man says, “But everything dies the same. Even wolfmen. Even witches.”
Martyn narrows his eyes. “I’m not a witch.”
“Prove it, then,” the man says. He pulls his sword away, offering it to Martyn. “Kill the wolfman. If he really means nothing to you, it should be easy. Otherwise, I’ll assume you’re a witch in league with him.”
“I don’t even know how to, to— what do you even want me to do?” Martyn asks.
“You’ve chopped firewood, haven’t you?” the man asks, “It’s probably like that.”
Martyn stares at Ren a long time, but Ren isn’t looking at him. His knuckles are white, and at the hem, his hand shakes.
If Martyn can do nothing else for Ren, he can at least make this quick.
“If it’s like firewood,” Martyn says, “Give me an axe.”
— — —
They set Ren up on an old stump. It’s a bit too tall, and the position he takes the lean his neck against it is awkward, undignified. Most of what they do leading up to his death is—letting him keep the cloak is the only reprieve they afford him. No one lets him wipe the blood from his mouth or pull the twigs from his hair. He’s barely even let off the ground to move to his chopping block—it would be too easy to run on his own two feet, and so he’s made to crawl.
Martyn is the final person willing to even to use Ren’s name.
“Part your hair, Ren,” Martyn instructs, “I don’t want to miss.”
Ren is allowed to do that, at least, pulling his hair away to clear up the skin there. Martyn tugs down the back of the cloak himself, letting his fingers linger at the base of Ren’s spine, looking at what, exactly, he’s about to do.
His throat is pressed against old bark, putting him at an odd angle. Martyn says nothing, another of many decisions he’ll come to regret.
“Okay,” Martyn mutters, lifting the axe, “Any last words?”
Ren closes his eyes. “I’ll see you in Hell, Doctor.”
It should sound like an insult, but Martyn knows it isn’t. It doesn’t make it any easier.
Martyn swings. The angle is crooked, diagonal against Ren’s bent neck. Martyn knows he’s fucked it when he hears the sound Ren makes: a choked scream, loud enough to startle the birds and as pained as it is wet.
Martyn rips the axe out of his flesh. Blood streams down the blade and onto the cloak, but Martyn ignores it. Ren begins to sag and Martyn panics, slamming it back down. This angle is worse, and Ren cries a second time. His body shudders, patches of hair appearing on his shoulders and down his arms. There’s shouting behind Martyn, but he doesn’t process the words.
Ren is in pain. The wolf has only ever wanted to protect him, to soothe him. He’s scared and in pain and the wolf wants to help and it’s Martyn that’s causing it.
Martyn slams the axe down a third time. Ren makes no noise, at least, or maybe it’s drowned out by the splatter of blood, or the axe hitting bone, or bark snapping under the grip of Ren’s claws.
Martyn’s hands and chest and legs are covered in it. He’ll probably never feel clean again.
Rip. Raise. Swing. Rip. Raise. Swing.
It takes a total of five blows before Martyn hits wood, Ren’s head falling away onto the dirt.
His body slumps against the wood, leaving blood smeared all down the bark. Like a spider’s legs curling in death, the claws and fur retract as the life leaves him. He looks smaller like that, crumpled against the ground.
He’s dead. Ren is dead, and Martyn murdered him.
Martyn processes very little about the next few moments. He’s only seen a few bodies in his life, but this is the worst yet. Ren had been kind beyond anyone Martyn had ever met, and Martyn had killed him. If Martyn had cured him, if Martyn had sedated him, if Martyn had stepped in and saved him, if—
“—tor, Doctor!” Martyn snaps back to attention. The man with the sword is in front of him, and he actually looks concerned.
“He’s— I’m so, you—” Martyn doesn’t know what he’s saying. Ren is dead and he wants to apologize and he wants to curse this man’s entire bloodline to ends twice as gruesome and violent. He feels small, smaller than Ren against that stump. He feels like a kid again, trying not to sob as he’s carried away from Jay’s smoldering house. His vision is blurring already, and his hands are shaking so bad that he can barely hold the axe.
“Jesus, you look like you’re going to be sick.”
“I am,” Martyn says, honest. He hears the axe fall to the ground, though he’s not aware of letting it go.
“Haven’t you, like, done surgery?” the man asks.
“That— it’s, not like that,” Martyn says, “They don’t— they don't bleed that much. They’re not— they don’t feel— they don’t make noise.”
He hears someone behind him say something like ‘can’t be a witch with such a weak stomach.’ Jay had a weak stomach, too. Was no good at hurting anyone, not even if he wanted to. Not even to defend himself.
Just like Ren. Not like Martyn.
Martyn had always thought, if he’d only had the power he has now, he’d have leapt to Jay’s defense. He’s always told himself he’d have saved the only person who ever loved him, comforted himself with versions of the world where he and Jay escaped.
Ren didn’t love him, but Ren had made himself the only other person who’d gotten so far as to like him. And Martyn hadn’t just let him die, no—Martyn had killed Ren himself.
What was the point of all this power if Martyn is still a coward? How did he let it happen again? When did he lose sight of what he’d gained it all for?
What can he do with it now?
“Take a seat, man,” the man says, and Martyn shakes his head—if he sits now, he’ll never get the nerve to move again.
What can he do with his magic? There must be some way to fix this. Martyn is a healer, better than any other. There must be some spell for sutures or blood or bone, something that could fix this, something that could bring Ren back to h—
…Something that could bring Ren back.
Martyn looks up, finally meeting the man’s eyes. He’s still shaking, but he gathers what determination he can.
“Let— let me bury him,” Martyn says.
“What?”
“Let me,” Martyn tries again, trying to keep his voice from trembling, “Let me bury him.”
“Why the hell would you bury a wolfman?”
“So he, his body,” Martyn’s determined, but the adrenaline in his body has him scrambled. It’s hard to think, to speak, “It’ll infect the, the wolves, if— if they eat it, the local wolves, they’ll, if we just—”
The man raises a hand, cutting him off.
“So we’ll burn it,” the man says. Martyn shakes his head.
“I need to, to be the one to,” Martyn says, and when he can’t explain himself, he tacks on the one bit of magic even humans recognize: “Please.”
“No graveyard will take a wolfman,” the man says.
“I’ll bury him out here,” Martyn says, “Please.”
“Why does this matter so much to you?” the man asks, “Don’t tell me you feel guilty.”
“I’ve never— I’ve never lost a patient before,” Martyn says, almost a whisper. The man’s face actually softens. He believes Martyn to be a human doctor, after all, simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. He sets a hand on Martyn’s shoulder, sympathetic.
“I know he looked human, but that thing wasn't human anymore,” he says, “You don’t have to feel bad. It was us or him.”
Martyn doesn’t want to be us with this man. Being safe with these people isn’t worth this. It wasn’t worth Jay. Martyn has paid so steeply for this safety and belonging, and it was never worth a goddamned thing.
“Ren’s always— always been a good man,” Martyn says, “Just— I need to do this. Let me do this. Please.”
The man sighs, squeezing Martyn’s shoulder. “If this is what you need to sleep tonight.”
It isn’t. If only it were so simple as ever sleeping again.
“Thank you,” Martyn says anyway.
— — —
The first thing Martyn does is close Ren’s eyes.
He doesn’t look at them. He has no idea what Ren’s expression looks like because he doesn’t want to know. He doesn’t check, instead focusing on picking him up.
He picks Ren’s head up first, gentle, respectful as he can be. He doesn’t take Ren by his hair or hold him by the face, instead cupping Ren’s chin in his hands. Ren’s hair cascades down his arms unobstructed, wet strands and the drenched wound coating Martyn’s sleeves in even more blood.
Next, Martyn empties the basket. That’s careless—Martyn dumps everything on the ground without even looking. The only thing he picks back up is the pants, which he lays down on the base of the basket, just to give Ren a bit of a cushion when he rests him inside.
Martyn sets his head down gently, leaning on his cheek. Though he tries to put Ren’s hair inside the basket, plenty of it spills out over the edges.
Once Ren is secure, he sets the basket in the crook of his arm, and he moves to the rest of him.
Ren’s body is still curled against the stump. The bleeding has slowed, but it hasn’t stopped entirely.
First, Martyn lays Ren’s body on his back. He covers Ren as best he can with the cloak, wrapping him carefully in the dark fabric. It’s difficult to see blood on, at least, though his stained neck is impossible to miss. Martyn has to be careful as he bends down, hooking his arms under Ren’s knees and back without tipping Ren’s head out of his basket.
Ren is light when Martyn finally stands. Martyn’s already exhausted—staying up all night hadn’t done him any favors, nor had his awful morning—but he notices that. Ren had been a lumberjack before he… got sick. He must’ve lost the muscle at some point, though Martyn hadn’t noticed.
Martyn rubs his thumb against Ren’s shoulder through the fabric of his cloak. His body is still warm.
“It’s going to be okay, Ren,” he whispers, unable to care about being overheard. “I’ll take care of you. I’ll fix this. I’ll fix everything. I promise.”
He doesn’t apologize—as much as he wants to, Martyn holds his tongue. Now isn’t the time for apologies.
Martyn will save it until Ren can hear it.

People talk a lot about how Fit didn't want a kid when the Egg event happened, but I'm watching his Egg Event Day stream for the first time and picking up a few interesting things that both confirm and contradict what a lot of people say about Fit's perspective of the Egg event, So here are some notes from his VOD:
Fit immediately went over to Ramon when he saw him and cooed at his cute little mustache.
Fit repeatedly said to himself "I'm not a dad I'm not a dad I'm not a dad" while the informational videos were playing. HOWEVER--
When Ramon flashes the "Egg" sign repeatedly to them, Fit says he has eggs at his base and tells Ramon to wait with Spreen. Ramon chases after him, and Fit insists that he stays with Spreen, saying: "I will be right back, Ramon. Don't worry, I will return. I promise." ~ 1h 17m
Moments later when he's on his own, Fit says "Spreen better keep that Egg alive. I'm not emotionally attached to the Egg with the mustache, ok? I'm not emotionally attached." (Mirroring the things he often says these days about not having separation anxiety. Which is a lie). ~1h 18m
Fit says even though Ramon has a mustache, he doesn't know if Ramon is a boy, girl, or enby. (This isn't really relevant lore-wise, but I thought that was sweet). ~1h 20m
Foolish and Vegetta introduce Leonarda to Ramon, and Vegetta says "Look look, it's a friend, it's a friend! 😊" and then two seconds later says "Now fight to the death! 😊" ~1h 25m
Tumblr media
(The QSMP admins also make a whoopsies here and call Fit "Feet" in chat LMAO)
Despite joking that he's going to build Ramon a dog house near his place, when Spreen asks if they should build a simple house or something nicer for Ramon, Fit says, "Well he is our kid, so he deserves only the best, right? Maybe we should make a big mansion." ~1h 31m
Ramon makes a beeline to Fit's starter house (which the admins poked fun at) and excitedly jumps on the bed
Spreen accidentally hits Ramon (again) and Ramon runs off, and Spreen apologizes while he and Fit chase him down. Fit says "He didn't mean to do that, he loves you very much!" ~1h 36m
Fit gifts Ramon a seashell. ~1h 42m
Fit jokes that there's no doubt he's the father because Ramon looks just like him -- bald as an egg
They put Ramon to bed, but Spreen and Fit introduce Roier, Jaiden, and Bobby to Ramon while he's asleep. ~2h 10m
Spreen says he left food for Ramon in case he gets hungry at night. They get worried about Ramon because he's been sleeping for a long time and check to make sure he's still breathing. ~ 2h 14m
Spreen says they'll be a really good team, and Fit says, "We will be very good parents together, I can feel it." (oof) ~ 2h 15m
Fit and Spreen say goodbye to each other, and Fit says "Being a father is not easy, that's why I've put off fatherhood for so long, I don't know if I'm ready." He says it doesn't seem so bad, but Ramon's sleeping a lot and he's kinda lazy, so he doesn't know how he feels about this child, but "We'll make it work." Right after he says this, he suddenly finds Ramon climbing up the hill towards him, and they go fishing together. ~2h 16m
Fit calls Ramon "Mi huevito." ~2h 19m
"I dunno how I got roped into this fatherhood thing" he says while waiting for Ramon to finish using the bathroom. Then he teaches Ramon how to cook the fish they caught (classic Dad behavior) ~2h 21m
Spreen tells Fit he's going out and to take care of Ramon. Fit teases him and says it's a shared responsibility, and Spreen says he has to go to work. ~2h 26m
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMAGES THAT AGED VERY VERY BADLY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The subtitles don't show it, but Spreen is saying "Don't worry, Ramon. You'll see me tomorrow." Fit says he'll teach Ramon how to grow crops, and Spreen says, "That's right Ramon, I want to hear all about how to grow crops when I get back."
Fit tells Ramon "You are my huevito" and sings him a lullaby. 2h 30m
"Spreen going out for cigarettes my ass! I'm not gonna see him for months now. See - someone's gotta step up and be a parent, and be there, and take the responsibility! That's me. That's me. It's weird though, I mean, I'm not used to this whole "fatherhood" thing, keeping a living thing alive. It's weird." ~ 2h 31m
Fit says he thinks he and Spreen will be a good parenting pair if Spreen comes back. But he's glad the child is doing well right now. ~ 2h 36m
Not related to Fit and Ramon, but these are some other funny moments:
Fit gets kicked for "flying" (he was jumping off a tall tower, but manages to clutch it) ~ 2h 43m
Fit meets JuanaFlippa! ~3h 12m
Slimecicle gives JuanaFlippa a landmine. ~ 3h 21m

+quick idea!
what abt fuckboy!james/fuckboy!steve who’s so used to the idea of girls wanting to stay after they sleep w him, but with you, he wants to stay. you get up to leave and get your clothes on before he’s making up dumb excuses and whining with his little puppy dog gaze all like “well you don’t have to leave :(“
and ur just there smirking and trying not to laugh before u climb back in bed w his little clingy self
Thanks for requesting <3
Steve Harrington x fem!reader ♡ 699 words
Steve looks nice when he’s relaxed like this. There’s no carefully curated uptilt to his lips, and the muscles around his eyes are at ease, finally free of that dumb, smolder-y squint he does. You would've never denied that Steve is handsome, but he actually looks quite pretty when he’s not trying so hard. His face has gone soft against his pillow, limps plump and skin golden in the buttery morning light streaming through his curtains.
You don’t intend to stick around to see that softness melt away. You’re quiet and efficient in changing into the clothes you’d worn the night before, leaving your shoes off for now so your steps remain soundless on Steve’s bedroom floor. You find some mouthwash under his sink and decide that’ll have to do in lieu of brushing your teeth for now, fixing your hair and double-checking that there’s no makeup leftover under your eyes before exiting the bathroom.
Steve’s sitting up in bed.
“Morning,” you greet him.
“Morning.” He stretches, arching his back until it cracks. He tilts his head as his eyes focus on you. “You’re already dressed?”
“Yup.” You sit down on the edge of the bed to put your shoes on. “Thanks for letting me stay here last night.”
“No problem.” He’s doing that stupid eye-squint thing again, albeit a more dulled, tired version, as he rakes his gaze showily up your body. It’s work to not roll your eyes. “I hope you had a good time.”
“I did,” you confirm, finishing the knot on your second shoe. You stand. “Cool if I leave the front door unlocked on my way out, or did you want to follow me and lock it?”
Steve’s eyebrows cinch, and the squint takes on an unfamiliar nature. “You know, I’m not the type of guy to kick girls out first thing in the morning. You can stay for breakfast, if you want.”
You give him an appeasing smile. “Thanks, but I’ve got food at home.”
He sits up straighter, covers slipping down to reveal the waistband of his boxers. “Don’t you need a ride or something?”
“I can take the bus.”
“Well, I could drive you if you’d just give me a second to get up.”
“Steve.” You don’t bother hiding the bemusement from your expression. “I really don’t mind taking the bus.”
Steve pauses with one leg out of the bed and one still in, and you let your gaze linger on his naked thigh for just a moment before forcing your eyes back up to his face. It’s as confused as you imagine yours has to be, but you could almost swear the look in his eyes is tinged with hurt. “What’s the rush?” he asks you. “Do you have somewhere to be or something?”
“No,” you answer with a shrug. “There’s just no point in me sticking around here, and I figured I’d get out of your hair.”
“You’re not in my hair.”
“I’m not?”
“No.” Steve runs a hand through his hair, one side pressed flat from being smushed against his pillow. You sort of want to stick your fingers in there and ruffle it. “It’s not…you’re not bothering me, or anything.”
You raise your eyebrows at him. “That’s good.”
“Just—” Steve blows out a breath. He seems puzzled, and he also seems like being puzzled is frustrating for him. This doesn’t feel like the insouciant, self-possessed boy who’d led you into his bed the night before. “You don’t have to rush out. You could stay for a little while.”
You cock your hip, giving him an appraising look. “And do what?”
“I dunno,” Steve says, and it occurs to you that he really is at a loss. He doesn’t seem used to having to ask for people to stay. “We could have breakfast, if you want. I could make you an omelet.” That squint is back, like this should be enticing to you.
You huff a laugh but set your bag down, heading for the kitchen. “Steve Harrington, I do not believe for one second that you know how to make an omelet. How about you show me where the supplies are, and I’ll cook us something good.”

What if any of the jjk characters gave their child a lemon for the first time?
I AM SO SORRY FOR BEING LATE TO REPLY TO THIS, for some reason I’m not getting notifications? Anyway,
WHAT A GREAAT IDEA ANON!! :3
Warnings: Maybe curse words???
Fluff
Implied fem reader I suppose? No genders are used, just your kid calling you mom.
C/N = Child name
G/C/N, B/C/N = Girl child name, boy child name, I only used these for Suguru since he had twins and I wanted to make it least confusing
A teensy beensy bit of cursing
Yuji, Megumi, Gojo, Geto
I may make a part 2, I dunno…
——————————————————————
Yuji
Yuji is definitely influenced by a tik tok video he saw, after seeing a mom giving her son a lemon, he couldn’t help be think, ‘I wonder how C/N would react to this…’
He never really got the opportunity to really plan and decide when to do it, so he never recorded it like he wanted, but he did get a picture of his son’s reaction!
—————————————————————
“Papa, what’s that yellow thing you’re cutting?” C/N said in a chirpy voice, as he peeked over the counter while his father was cutting lemons. You were tired that day after something happened at work, so Yuji decided he should make dinner, it was the least he could do.
“Hm? Ohh these are lemons!” C/N adorably tilted his head, giving his papa puppy eyes.
“Is it food?” as C/N asked this question, fragments of small memories came up in his mind with the tik tok video, making him smile smugly.
Yuji cut a slice of lemon, and bend down to his knees to meet his son’s height, C/N’s eyes sparkled as he looked at the fruit, C/N gulped, nervously grabbing the lemon.
“Don’t be nervous, it tastes really sweet!” C/N nodded with a determined expression, he trusted his dad for he looked up to him the most, so, with all his nervousness drowned out, C/N took a big bite out of the lemon.
His face squeezed, as his chewing became slower, and finally, he stood still.
“Is it good, C/N?” Yuji snorted out a small chuckle, as an attempt to hide his laughter, C/N was a sweet boy, just like his papa, he didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.
…That being said, C/N got the impression that Yuji made the lemon, and he didn’t want to hurt his father’s feelings, so he simply nodded very slowly, as he forces himself to swallow the sour fruit.
Yuji snapped a picture of his son’s squeezed expression, tears of amusement threatening to fall, as he rubbed his son’s back
“You’re a good boy, C/N”
——————————————————————
Megumi
Megumi’s definitely doing it as like a petty revenge towards his daughter, after some sort of quarrel they had, she had quite the smart mouth, just like her dad, and sometimes he’s at a lost of words with her comebacks, so why not come back another way?
——————————————————————
“C/N, I want you to try something for me real fast.” Megumi said from the kitchen, him and his daughter had another small argument once again, about his demon dogs and wanting them to be out 24/7, truth be told, Megumi could never say no to her, but he can still argue.
But this time, she had backed him into a corner, giving a solution to all his excuses, the fact that he had nothing to say back to her, slightly pisses him off.
C/N didn’t ask questions and waddled herself into the kitchen, her steps were quite loud as she ran to look up to her papa.
“Try what papa? Is it spicy like last time?”
C/N furrowed her eyebrows as she accused her dad, Megumiswiftly picks her up and grunts, showing her a lemon, C/N takes the lemon as she questions the fruit.
“Papa, what is this? A pee pee circle?” C/N giggles as she describes the fruit, earning a sigh from Megumi.
“No, It’s a lemon, and you eat it.” Megumi snatches the lemon from her, causing her to pout, as she crosses her arms.
“Hey, don’t start scowling, it’s really good, it’s your mom’s favorite fruit, so I assumed you’d like it too.” Hearing that it was mom’s favorite, C/N immediately took the lemon from her dad’s hands, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
The thing was, you hated lemons, so that just came out as a straight up lie.
C/N licks the lemon to test it first, as she immediately retracts and drops the lemon, she tightens her lips into a thin line and her eyes close, Megumi takes this opportunity to take a picture.
“You lie! I go and tell mama you lie!”
Megumi chuckles, putting C/N down
“Lie about what? You tried it on your own free will.” Megumi snarks, causing C/N to tightly glare she began to stop her feet, “It’s not good! I go and tell mama you lie! Mama!”
C/N dashes out of the kitchen in an angry fit, knowing he was gonna get an earful from you later, he’s just happy he got his revenge.
——————————————————————
Gojo
Gojo discovers this after Suguru sent him a picture of both of his twins trying lemons, he coos at the sight, finding it absolutely adorable, this encourages Gojo to run to the store to get lemons so he can record his little girl’s reaction.
——————————————————————
At the moment she was getting ready for nap time, so right after you tuck her into bed, Gojo ran into his daughters room, in a hurry, barging in and pausing her princess movie she was watching.
“C/N~ could you help your papa out for a bit?”
C/N blinking at the glaring light that Gojo turned on, watching her papa walk in and sit next to her on her bed.
“Did mommy make daddy sleep on the couch again?” C/N casually asked, as if she were used to this, making Gojo sulk, he probably would be sent to the couch after he does this.
C/N tilted her head when she didn’t get a response, so she simply took it as yes, she scooted over and patted down her sheets, allowing her dad to sleep with her tonight.
“It’s okay daddy, you can sleep with me tonight.” This absolutely squeezed Gojo’s heart, almost making him regret having her try this lemon, but he continues anyway.
“I appreciate it sweetpea, but mommy didn’t kick me out, I just wanted you to try this!” Gojo cheerfully said, showing her the lemon, she looks at it suspiciously, narrowing her eyes.
“What is it? What does it do?” C/N tilted her head, making Gojo giggle
“It gives you superpowers! Like your papa!” Gojo smiles, handing C/N the lemon, she takes it, her suspicion fading when she hears about superpowers.
“So if I try…I will have superpowers? Like superman?”
Gojo nodded, lifting the lemon to C/N, she takes it and bites deep into it. She pauses mid bite, sharply lifting her head back up and looks back at her dad.
Gojo couldn’t help but die from laughter, C/N’s squeezed in lips, and her eyes slightly watered from the sourness, he couldn’t help it.
C/N was staring at Gojo, as she sniffles once…sniffles twice…then finally, tears, loud and drowning tears, alerting Gojo when she suddenly breaks down.
Gojo jumps to his daughter as if it were an instinct, rubbing her back and telling her to shush and that she’s okay, but neither worked
Not only did he feel terrible about making her cry, but he was terrified because of you.
It didn’t even last a second when you dashed into the room and began to comfort C/N, Gojo looks with fear and concern.
“Oh dear…What’s got you all crying…”
You wiped her tears.
“Daddy gave me a nasty food and started laughing at me…”
C/N pouted, before you snapped your neck towards Gojo, yep, he was fucked.
——————————————————————
Geto
Geto thought of this idea himself, I mean, how cute could it be to see his son and daughter taste lemons? He was dying to see their reactions, so one night, it was his turn to do the house work, including kitchen while you take a shower.
——————————————————————
Both twins were making a absolute ruckus, the whole house was trashed with toys after Geto just cleaned it, but Geto isn’t the type to yell out his children, so he decided to distract them both with something else.
“G/C/N, B/C/N , how about we try something new today, hm?” Geto said in a mellow tone, he looked like a typical house wife, with a pink apron and white bunny slippers, as both twins stop their play fighting to see what their dad meant.
“New? I wanna try something new!” G/C/N said excitedly, running to her dad to see, her brother simply follows her around anyway, so they both came at the same time.
“I’ve cut you both a fruit called lemons, only big boys and girls could eat these, if you both can eat them without quitting, I’ll serve you both ice cream, sound like a deal?” Geto smiled, G/C/N immediately accepted the challenge, taking the lemon for herself
“So you’ll start treating us like big kids if we eat lemon’s, dad?” B/C/N questions, looking down at the yellow fruit, earning a nod from Geto.
“Who cares if we’re big kids, we get ice cream!” G/C/N encourages her skeptical brother, this immediately helps B/C/N gain confidence.
“Then…we eat it at the same time, okay?” B/C/N said, earning a nod from his sister.
“On the count of three, we bite…1….2….3—!”
They both chomp down on it, they both recoil in unison, as they look up at their spectating dad, he was covering his expression, as he holds in his snickers, but both twins continue to bravely chew and even swallow, but when G/C/N finished, she was instantly enraged
“What was that you gave us, papa, you scammed us!” G/C/N said, hitting her papa’s leg, and B/C/N sniffled, looking at his dad with puppy eyes as he picks up his sister by her shirt so he could stop her from punching.
“Can we get our ice cream now, papa?” B/C/N said in a trembling tone, trying not to cry, Geto’s smile soften’s patting his son’s head
“Of course, B/C/N, you both ate it, after all.”
Both twins cheered
“Hell yeah! Chocolate ice cream!”
G/C/N said loudly, making Geto gasp and lightly slap her head.
“Watch your mouth, G/C/N.”
