If I was to go back, any tips for which watercolours to pick? I so far got only aniline colours.

Hmmm, the thing is, I use fountain pen inks almost always for painting. I don't use watercolour much, so I can't really suggest anything in particular… I have a selection of colours from different brands, of course, I know quite a lot about pigments, and I like using watercolour from time to time to add some special effects to my works. For sketching outdoors it's also the easiest to use among all other paints, probably. But painting a whole artwork with it……… I try doing it sometimes, but every single time I end up thinking "God, I wish I used inks instead, I hate this so much, why is it so BLEURGH". I guess watercolour just isn't my medium 😂 

I can share my thinking process when building up a palette though, I use it with all mixable mediums I use, be it inks, watercolour, gouache, etc. I found it to be the most effective (and money-saving, lol) approach for me.

So what I want for my main mixing palette is to have 3 sets of primary trios. All colours also must be as smooth as possible, with no surprises or unwanted colour separation. For watercolour - not granulating ones.

(my camera tends to make all colours brighter and also fails to see the subtle difference between some shades, but you can still get the idea)

The first trio is extremely vivid, consisting of bright cool colours - lemon yellow, cyan, magenta-leaning pink. It gives you access to all the bright, open colours.

Second is the classic they teach in all art schools (probably, from what I've heard, I never went into one alkjdshfk) - sunshine yellow, bright warm red and ultramarine blue. This gives you a huge selection of warmer, natural colours, like all shades of golds, eggplant purples, olive greens, etc. It also allows some nice selection of wood browns.

Third is my personal favorite, the muted trio. You kinda can get similar colours from the previous trio, but I prefer having these separately, because of how often I use them all. It consists of golden ochre-leaning yellow, dark bloody red and dark indanthrone blue. It gives you the most beautiful browns, beiges, blacks and other rich, deep colours.

On top of that I also like to have at least one decent black (in my case it's Quink Black ink, I cannot live without it).  And these 10 would be my essentials. Other colours I add to my mixing palette are basically shortcuts to the shades I find myself mixing the most - like a few browns and violets. There are also a few inks that I need for some very specific purposes - like, I have a very vivid cold magenta ink to mix a certain bright cold shade of the Void, and also a fluorescent orange for adding shiny Exo LED lights. And etc.

(Actually I'm currently in the process of re-organizing my main palette and also considering making a few small sets for painting some characters specifically)

I also have a separate selection of chromatographic inks, which can probably be compared to granulating watercolours… But not quite. A few examples:

Here I don't have any special notes or advices, just get the ink you like and enjoy it. Some of these I use so often that I always keep them in my main palette, and others I only get out for some special occasion. These are also mixable btw - I constantly add other ink in Quink Black to get different shades of it.

However, I must say that not all of the ~special effects~ inks are polite and well-behaved, some will agree to work only on some specific paper after a significant amount of coaxing, and others will straight out say "fuck you" at the most crucial moment, even if they worked perfectly just a moment ago.

Btw, when working with inks, I really recommend to put it into smaller bottles with a dropper, so you don't have to open the big bottle each time. It's both easier to use for you and much safer for inks!

✩Books: this is also hard, I don't think I have favorite books but I really enjoyed these books in the last couple of years: Radio Silence, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World and Frankenstein (I read it for the first time this year lol).

✩Animals: Cats, chubby and small birds, a type of shark named whitetip reef shark, elephants and butterflies.

✩ Flowers: daisies, baby's breath, sunflowers and tulips .

✩ Kpop albums: Mots 7, Mots Persona, DDay, D2 and LY tear.

✩ Dishes: this changes a lot so it's hard to choose but rn, Caesar salad, sushi, spring rolls, pepperoni pizza and chicken soup.

MY TOP 10 BEST BL COUPLES OF 2023

So I guess I'm a little late considering it's now 2024 in most places, but well, better late than never. I tried and failed to rank top 20 or even 10 kisses... I just couldn't remember them all or even choose... but most of my top couples have some pretty great kisses, so at least there's that! I can, however, rank my favorite BL pairings from 2023, so... let's do it! I will be ranking these from least favorite to favorite because I think it's more fun that way... Also I credited all the gif makers at the bottom but I did list the tumblr user for each specific gif underneath. If someone wants me to remove their gif, please let me know and I will so! I just wanted to pretty up the post a bit.

Also, to clarify, any couple on a show that is currently airing and not complete yet is not eligible to be on the list for 2023. Trust me, there were many I wanted to include!

Tinn & Gun | My School President

So, spoiler, a different GeminiFourth pairing will be on the actual top 10 so I didn't really want to include both pairings on the list, but I really did love the two of them in My School President. G/F just have such a wonderful and natural chemistry. The way they always look at each other just feels so pure and sweet. I really like pairings where one is secretly pining for the other, but Tinn/Gun also sorta had a hate/love ISH thing going for a little while. The progression of their relationship to actual boyfriends was just so fun to watch and really well done.

Dong Wook & Do Hyun | A Breeze of Love

I watched this BL so quickly that it didn't really resonate with me as well as some other series, which is why these two didn't make the top 10, however, I really enjoyed their relationship on the show. I love hate to love pairings and I found their backstory scenes really sweet as well. I also thought they had a really nice chemistry and there were some strong kissing moments for a kbl.

Jihan & Jaejun | City Boy Log

I didn't include these two on the main list for two reasons, one: the show is not over yet... i don't think? and two: this technically isn't a BL drama? IDK anymore, but regardless I love this series and this couple so dang much! I love the realness of them filming themselves and how their relationship is portrayed so subtly until their feelings just sort of emerge. They have some really wonderful and special scenes or moments together that we don't typically get on other series. I am anxious to see where the rest of the story goes and I hope the actors get another opportunity to work together. The side pairing is great too!

#10. Ai & Songkhram | Destiny Seeker

These two were so damn fun to watch, I really loved the hate to love thing at the start that quickly turned into love (Or I guess always sort of was???). The actors had such a great chemistry together and they had so many fun little moments and bantery scenes together. While the rest of the series felt a little flat for me, their connection continuously kept me interested.

#09. Ze Rui & Zong Yi | Kiseki Dear to Me

Honestly don't even know what to write about these two or how to explain why I like them, because there wasn't anything particularly special about their dynamic that typically draws me in, but I just really enjoyed the actors chemistry together and I really liked the progression of their relationship and how well they meshed together. Their kissing was extremely natural too.

#08. King & Eua | Bed Friend

Firstly, these two are HOT AF, and I really loved the friends with benefits storyline between these two, but more than that, we have a perfect character imo with King, who was continuously there for Eua and always trying to help him and make him understand how much he really cared. The show could be very dark at times but I love that King was always sort of the shining light for Eua.

#07. Segaski & Yoh | My Personal Weatherman

I can admit that the big draw to this show for me originally was the sexy scenes and moments, and while I do think the series could have done with some more scenery changes and better storylines, considering the time frame, I enjoyed watching the relationship between the two characters develop. It's nice to get a friends with benefits type of relationship and see how it progresses into more than that. And for a JBL it was nice to see some high heat with a happy ending.

#06. Su Yu & Wu Bi | Stay With Me

SIGH. THESE TWO. So I mean, I understand the criticism of this show and their relationship. So many things are implied but personally I felt like the end half made it pretty clear that these two were 100% a romantic couple. (just wish it was clarified when that change happened) But the progression of their relationship from hate to love was so beautiful to watch. Even if it was just a friendship it was worth it imo to see how close they got. Fair warning, the finale episode is not the best lmao, but I hope we get a second season to sort of fix it? Fingers crossed on that one.

#05. Wan & Ki Tae | Our Dating Sim

This was definitely one of the cutest BL's of the year and this couple falls into that category well too. I really loved seeing them re-connect. I love that they were old best friends (with feelings) that had a lot of issues to sort through and we saw some adorable flashback scenes as well as current scenes. I also love that they got together and were mostly happy instead of having a lot of intense drama.

#04. Li Ming & Heart | Moonlight Chicken

These two... so much to say about them and yet I don't really know where to start. Gemini and Fourth just work so well together and I felt like this duo was even deeper than in MSP. They started out on bad terms but quickly became close and I really loved the progression of their relationship and then I adored how we also got to see them together as a couple too. My favorite thing about them was how hard Li Ming worked to try to understand Heart and how he learned sign language for him and encouraged him to get to know others like him and to put himself out there. They also had such a fun banter with playful moments and scenes. It was just so damn pure and sweet to watch with no unnecessary or stupid fillery drama.

#03. Jae Won and Ji Hyun | The Eighth Sense

Something about this pairing just felt so much different than the typical KBL pairing. The show itself was so much deeper and had a more serious tone than we typically get, which was amazing. The actors nailed the roles and you could really feel the tension and longing between them right from the beginning. I loved their storyline so much and the actors seemed so comfortable together.

#02. Yamato & Kakeru | I Cannot Reach You

This was one of my favorite BL's of the year and their relationship was a huge part of it. I thought I was more into hate to love, but clearly, based on this list, that isn't always the case. There is something so sweet and adorable about best friends turned to lovers. I really love too when we see one side pining for the other, so this couple was extremely enjoyable to watch!

#01. Chen Yi & Ai Di | Kiseki Dear To Me

Good Lord these two... they had the perfect formula for my favorite type of pairing. Hate to love, drama, tension, angst, one-sided pining... it was so painful to have to wait every week for more. But god, it was worth the wait and their chemistry was just so good, their kisses were phenomenal too. Def. a memorable pair and a show I will be rewatching very soon!

The thin line between already being close friends with someone and officially dating them is an interesting question when it comes to byler. other than, like, making out and doing more lol, what do you think the main subtle differences will be between established byler and current byler? (spicy or otherwise)

it's a little tricky in ways isn't it, because in s4 they really were behaving like couples do, just standing closer or turning to each other in group situations.

I think the biggest differences are really going to be about intention. and behaving unapologetically both with each other and around others! they won't feel like their actions are "too much" for a friendship because it becomes unrestricted.

their friendship is romantically charged, which means there's a LOT of tension, and shifting into a relationship means there'll now be a lot more relaxed energy about them. They settle more into who they really are and can be, they'll appear a lot brighter both bc of their romantic relationship and from the acceptance of their sexualities. I think we'll start to see that right after the confession with the relief that comes from it 🥺

It's nothing we don't already know will happen, but I agree there's a very thin line in differences to happen with byler specifically. I honestly almost think it's just about putting a new label on what they already are 😂

When you have a connection that close, you can naturally get flirtatious too which is what happened in s4, and why I say the difference is about the intention and purposeful behaviour!

I guess actual examples would be in their touches? Right now we have them physically close but still not crossing the line between them, whereas in a romantic relationship they'd be touching in some way during deeper discussions, or at least offering it. An example being mike placing his hand on top of will's, or on his shoulder vs him holding will's hand and rubbing his thumb across it soothingly (something that can be platonic or familial too, but between two boys in this context, it's romantic)

in terms of their life there's the future planning: they may have little things about each other that they find annoying or don't agree on, or discover they will, but the difference is that with friends you can mostly just accept it because you're (usually) not living with them, or can criticize lightheartedly. The difference for mike and will is communicating they don't like something a certain way and finding middle ground because they plan to spend many years together.

you've got primacy and how maybe mike and will may have tried to divide attention between all the party, or sit next to them for movies etc, but once in a relationship they'll have reason to pick each other in those moments without feeling bad.

But that's also why I find it fun that byler are together in a friend group, because I like thinking about that development and how they will have moments dustin and lucas express they want time with them individually or together, but obviously byler would make it work easily and it's no problem. but lucas and dustin will adapt to the fact byler are officially each other's person now and it's not platonic "favoritism"

the spicy side again is intention! there are no accidental glances, or innapropriate touches, no guilt for enjoying the view, or perceiving things as suggestive and getting turned on. mike can stare at will's ass and then actually tell him how much he loves it

They're going to have sides of their everyday life reflect in there too. will feels comfortable to ramble as long as he wants without judgement? will's going to become comfortable expressing his pleasure and show another version of himself by being a little slutty in bed or whatever the vibe

As for what we could get on the show? I think a lot of the differences will actually come through in eye contact and held gazes. Definitely more touches and going back to that s2 physical closeness (ex. mike's arm around will's shoulder). and scenes where their priority is officially each other, even a little dramatically to get that point across. OH and a hug, but this time nuzzling into each other's necks and their hands having movement wherever they touch

I'd love any other examples others can think of, because I really had to wrack my brain, they're already behaving like such a couple 😭 but sometimes it's hard to define anyway because some friends have sex and some couples aren't super physical!

So I started watching Found. A show about a team of vigilante-adjacent civilians who search for missing people (specifically the ones that get forgotten by cops). Lead by Gabi Mosely, a former kidnapping victim who's now holding her childhood kidnapper locked up in her basement.

As one does.

And honestly it's pretty great.

Here's the trailer:

The relationship between Gabi and Sir (don't ask!) is just as much of an emotional landmine clusterfuck as you might think. And will probably appeal to the fans of stuff like Prodigal Son (in the sense that we've got the hero in a codependent association with their abuser as they try get that abuser to help them investigate and save other people from the things they once put other people through).

But there's also a pretty great team around Gabi and that part of the show will probably appeal to the people who enjoy shows like Leverage, The Equalizer and Lie to Me (which, coincidentally they actually kinda have Gillian Foster's actress as the Cal Lightman of the team... but with less ego).

So the team...

Gabi Mosely. The main character and the team leader. She's the crusader of the team. Cares about the victims so much. Is willing to do absolutely anything to reunite the missing people with their families.

Margaret Reed. Gabi's lead investigator who developed her deductive reasoning and Sherlock Holmes levels attention to detail after her son went missing. It's a non-superpower superpower.

She juggles the two sides of tragic optimism like a champ.

There's Dhan Rana. The muscle of the team with PTSD from his own time in captivity (details to be revealed but my personal current guess is time as prisoner of war... don't quote me on that though).

Very ride or die, especially where Gabi's concerned (I mean this in a platonic sense, he's got a husband).

Then there's Zeke Wallace. The tech support and occasional hacker for the team. Suffers from agoraphobia, ergo can't leave his apartment because of trauma from his own kidnapping (details unknown, but initial guess is that he was kidnapped for ransom, his family money seems to at least partially fund their operation).

There's also a token cop character named Mark Trent. He's... fine.

And finally, my favorite out of everyone there, Lacey Quinn. The law student moonlighting as legal assistant.

I've got a more detailed description of her role in the story but as it's a bit of a spoiler (though something that gets revealed within the first few episodes) I'm putting it under a cut (you can decide for yourself if a reveal that happens within the first three episodes is too big for you or not).

Lacey too was kidnapped as a child by Sir and then saved by Gabi when the two of them managed to escape. Since then the two have developed a very close sisterly bond.

Lacey however is NOT aware that her former kidnapper is locked up in Gabi's basement.

Various "Failures" From My Google Docs

Good morning! I'm at my usual coffee shop and got inspired by the troubles of a few friends to embarrass myself.

Sit down with me. I'm enjoying my usual blended chai. There's room on the couch if you'd like to join me.

So I've written thirteen novels. I think thirteen, I've actually lost count. Let's say, like, five full-length plays and twelve to fourteen finished novels. Impressive, right? Maybe. I'm realizing that I consider that not much of a brag, if only because I know the amount of trips and stumbles it took to get to one completed project.

I've ditched a lot of ideas. A lot. If I need to I can dig into my old hard drives to find all the doc files from my youth, but I also have the same Google Docs I've had since middle school.

It's mostly plays and ghostwriting assignments, but if you did you'll find some snippets from my constant attempts at growth.

Some stuff like this is okay. The line "hair slicked back/suit black silk" is pretty good, but a little too the writer thinks they're clever for me now. I don't really remember where I planned to go with this. I think the narrator was somehow going to be given the identity of Roy Fontaine. I was really fixated on the surname Fontaine at the time. I don't know why.

But then there's also a lot of stuff like this:

Hey look it's Fontaine again! I guess he's a doctor, too! Also I am astounded by how casually the main character just pulls out the Necronomicon. He pulls it out? From where? His pocket? Is it a zine?

I don't know why, but something about how suddenly this jumps in terms of dropping specifics makes me think that Sonic the Hedgehog is about to show up. I can't explain it.

This is the only thing in a Doc titled "Psychosis". I have zero memory of what I was planning on doing with this. What's kind of crazy though is that I wrote this in 2014, and six years later I'll use essentially this exact bit in a finished novel without even realizing it.

Another bit from 2014. No clue what I planned to do with this. It's hilarious to me that something stopped me from finishing the sentence. What am I, Franz Kafka writing The Tower? I didn't die. I wasn't raptured. I just apparently tried to think of something a large oak door would do and immediately gave up. It was 2014 I had finished, like, four novels. And this idea was fully stalled by what had to be a fucking huge oak door.

My favorite part of this radio play I tried to write is that somehow, believe it or not - when I wrote this I did not fully understand the Quantum Suicide thought experiment. And for along time I still kind of thought that this could be salvaged into a good idea, until last night when I asked my wife to put on a video describing the experiment and I immediately found it so dumb. Just ridiculously stupid. The only good thing about Quantum Mickey is that the title kicks ass and I'm definitely keeping it for something.

I've written a lot. A lot. I've earned the severity of carpal tunnel I currently have. If I had to put it into a statistic, I'd say maybe seventy percent ends up finished. fifty percent ends up polished to be read or published. Thirty percent actually ends up being read or published. I'm okay with this, because I enjoy the work. But for me, part of enjoying the work is not panicking when a project doing work.

If I need to end a project in the middle of a sentence, I do. I've clearly proven that I do. Sometimes I write for thirty pages and lose interest, other times I get a paragraph in and get distracted forever. That's okay.

That's okay. As long as you're doing something.

I could've included segments of Carnation, my first novella that was supposed to be a novel but I never finished it. But I fucking guess that's getting it's own post when I hit 150 followers so I hope you're prepared for what the type of stuff I enjoyed in middle school.

i wouldn't say i really 'ramble' per say -- i just talk. to myself. like a normal person. mhm. i struggle with sleep in general, so i'm usually up till like 5am. typically endlessly scrolling through my phone, or talking to the abyss about something personal that's been on my mind for a while. if it's really bad, i cry in my voice memos. if i just need to - refresh? get smth off my mind so i can sleep? i write songs.

...and then i record them on my $15 wireless headphones. onto that very same voice memos app.

So, the weird thing about the p3 and p3r soundtrack is that I normally don't like rap music. S'just not my thing, I guess. BUT, I think that the persona hyperfixation combined with the jazz fusion shenanigins have tricked me into enjoying it, in this case.

So! I think my top favourites are: Colour Your Night, Changing Seasons, Deep Mentality, Deep Breath Deep Breath, Burn My Dread (the full reload version, specifically), It's Going Down Now, Memories of You, and Full Moon Full Life

i DO like Mass Destruction, obviously, but I think I've worn it out slightly in my head, and I think it's one of the few songs from the p3r soundtrack where I prefer the og version (only slightly! I still really love the new vocals- i think I just prefer the instrumentation of the og more)

ALSO a special mention to Brand New Days, which is not currently part of the p3r soundtrack. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Brand New Days the credits song for The Answer? if it is, boy oh boy I can't wait to hear what they do with it when the Episode Aigis dlc comes out. Weirdly, I think I prefer the versions of the song sung by the stage play cast at the end of each performance to the offical recording. What was your favorite Slugcat to play and your favorite Iterator to draw?

(i haven't played Saint yet) i suppooooooose it might be actually a tie between Spearmaster, Rivulet and Artificer? the movement of the latter two was a lot of fun, but i'm too attached to Spearmaster that i don't wanna leave it out. constant supply of spears took one of my main worries away for the whole game

and favorite Iterator to draw?? oh boy, i don't think i can choose... i do draw my own designs which i did my best to cater specifically to my enjoyment from drawing. it'd be easier to say what i like drawing the most out of their singular designs, so i'll do that (AND i get to ramble about that i love doin that)

originally i talked about like. all iterators i've ever really drawn but then i fucked up n what i had written was deleted so i guess we are doin only few. the main five i think of when trying to figure out which i like drawing the best:

• Pebbles: everything about his head is a joy to me. the shape of it, his marks, antennas.. the shape of his feet is a lot of fun and something about the combination of the Gen 3 skeletal body type and hanfu just... fits for him. along with his angry expression. it's like... a certain regal beauty but there's sharp teeth hiding within it. i like to try my best to imbue certain feelings into my designs and then how i draw them (especially on my own time- when i draw for asks i feel like... this important essence, the characterization, gets muddled at least a tad). with Pebbles i'm going for something like "small flame, burning bright- a fighter, yet so soft and fragile, sharp and divinely glorious, determined yet still so damn scared. i want to hold your hands, understand what the time has done to them and say that i'm very sorry. you shouldn't have had to become so rageful. they made you to be alive and didn't let you live." • Nish: of course *he's* here. from the scarf to the general loosenes of his fit (even though he should be more of a Tube, i'm not doin the kimono inspiration justice n i am sorry) is a lot of fun. the looser the clothes are, the more i enjoy drawing them!! i really like drawing his mark and i'm very proud of my design for his headphone audial things this time around. unlike last time, they are meant to be bigger than others' and they are red instead of dark green. the three holes in them? Especially proud of those. he's specifically high up there with my favorite iterators to draw because of his attitude, though • Boreas: he's so stupid big it makes me giggle. drawing him next to Gen 3s is so??? sir please come down we need to have a chat- hello? do u hear me???- okay but seriously, i'm very happy that i've settled on a chlamys for him. the sort of like. collar that i've decided the cloth will make for him compliments his personality well and i like drawing my collars a ton. it's not visible here because it isn't colored, but his antennas go from dark dark blue to vibrant red thru a gradient and i LOVE it so much. combined with the aggressive shape of them? mwah. also the leaf-like things on his audials are so simple to draw and add so much to his vibes that i always look forward to drawin them. revisiting his design and giving him the warranted love made him so so strong and dear to me... p sure he's currently my favorite from my ocs • Notos: a perfect example of why "less is more" is a saying. i like drawing it specifically cuz it's literally just. a bitch playing on a ghost with a bedsheet except when u look under that hood there are some Feckin yaoguai teeth waiting there. Those are a bitch to draw but i did this specifically to learn to draw teeth like that better. also. special shout out to the interaction of Iterator antennas and a bedsheet over the head. shkika keeps bein weak for those "cat ears" in our dms, it's funny to see Notos out of all my kids get those kind of reactions jglkdscmlksdmlk

current projects

i feel a bit awkward sharing these because again, i'm not a great writer, but i like reading about other writeblr's projects so i figured i'd give other people the option of seeing mine! warning for pretentious titles for very straightforward and basic concepts

WIP - flowers that mean "we'd miss you" - a short story I wrote while testing out subtext, character dynamics and prose!! the basic run-down is that a boy wakes up in the hospital and now he and his friends have to navigate a very difficult conversation. the subject matter definitely requires a content warning, and it has a few gaps i still need to fill, but overall i really like the direction it's headed!! out of all of these projects, it's probably the one i have the least issues with.

in the ataraxis of aftermath - this one is a novel i wrote for NaNoWriMo 2020! it is post-apocalyptic with elements of fantasy, slice-of-life, and romance, specifically lgbtq+ romance. it's about a girl exploring what remains of her flooded city when she suddenly finds another survivor. despite the genre, this novel is very slow-paced and calm, relying more on the character dynamics and emotional journey of the protagonist instead of traditional story beats and plotlines!! i finished the whole first draft that november (and without any real outline to guide me, so altogether it's a bit of a mess), and i plan on rewriting it after i finish the two following projects!!

WIP - the owl's wish - originally intended as a short story for just a friend and i, this project is quickly expanding into a full-on novel!! it's a haikyuu!! fanfic, but i've been told that the story is well enough removed from the show that it can work even if you don't that context. the only summary i can give without spoilers is that it's about an owl spirit with amnesia who finds a friend, and together they set off to get their wishes granted by the mysterious Lady of the Yellow Springs (but it's about more than that, i promise ;) ). it's set in ancient japan, and i referenced a few traditional fairytales when drawing up the outline, but otherwise it's a completely original folktale that can hopefully be accessible to anyone who picks it up!!

WIP - currently titled ouroboros paradox - this is a novel i am currently plotting, so honestly i'm not so sure how much i can say!! this is a fantasy novel coming from my intense passion for large creatures, horror elements, and norse mythology. as far as i know now, the story will follow two protagonists in the city of jörmungandr - one from the past and one in the present - as they try to navigate life, religion and ethics in a world where murdering living beings lengthens your lifespan. i plan on finishing my outline before this november, so i can try to hit 50K for nanowrimo this year!!

I just did Marisa now I have to do the most important woman in the world

General opinion/How much I care about them: GIRL OF ALL TIME. My blog is a Reimu love zone ONLY and no slander will ever be tolerated. Her impact on nerd culture and on the internet as a whole is unparalleled... (ok Miku is up there too but they're sharing the throne) She embodies the series so well and I love her so much for that. It's so good how each new installment offers a different perspective on her personality... it makes me a bit emotional to think that we've never seen who Reimu "really" is. I'm particularly interested in her role both in the current setting and as the latest in a long line of shrine maidens, and how she feels about it all. Of course I also love her silly moments and her carefree side and her desire to just live :) She makes me feel happy and then when I think about her more deeply she makes me feel like there's still an endless amount of things left to do with her character and of fanworks to create which is the best part of Touhou to me!!

A ship I love: Reimari is my favorite for the reasons I wrote in the Marisa post, but in general she's the character I most easily enjoy pairings of. She bounces off others really well and there's a bit of everything for everyone, whatever the genre you prefer I think there's a good Reimu pairing for it! Some other characters I love seeing her with are Yukari (can't go wrong with a classic, the aesthetic is immaculate and it's good food for thought), Seija (this one is uhhh. a lot. don't really have the space to detail it here), Alice (either pure angst or pure fluff like there's no inbetween lol), Akyuu (they are THE SAME and IT HURTS!!!)...

A non-romantic relationship that I love: Her friendship with Shinmyoumaru is really important to me but since I already talked about it at length I'll say Aunn! It's super cute and I love to imagine doggie Aunn snuggling up to baby Reimu when she sleeps, even though Reimu isn't aware she exists... Another excellent addition to the Reimu solar system. This girl desperately needed another pet

The NOTP: Oookay the fandom's gonna burn me at the stake for this but I don't like reisana very much anymore. It's cute and I used to enjoy it quite a lot but stuff happened and now it's just there I guess. shrugs

My biggest headcanon about them: There's so many... I think there were mementos or diaries of the past shrine maidens kept somewhere in the shrine and Reimu found them. She's hidden them somewhere else so they wouldn't be taken away or damaged by anyone.

An idea for a fanwork I would like to make/see about them: I want to make a collaborative Reimu zine with other artists/writers SO badly... I definitely think it's possible to do it on tumblr but I've already ran a bunch of events for the community and it requires energy that I don't have anymore. Maybe one day!

So. I actually started a lot of lifestyle changes about a month ago, shortly after getting my MRI results and checking in with my therapist a bit. I felt 95% sure the hepatologist would tell me I needed to lose weight, and I knew that if I hadn't started at least a little bit on that path before seeing her I would be even more triggered by being told that. Once I did, unsurprisingly, get told that on Monday I further cemented some of those changes and got a bit stricter about certain things, but in general this has been in the works for a little over a month.

I'm basically dieting, I guess, except I'm trying to be healthy about it and make "lifestyle changes" instead of like going on paleo or whatever. The thing is, I don't believe in dieting. I detest diet culture, I hate moralizing about food and fatphobia and all of that bullshit. I love the anti-diet and fat liberation movements, and while I never fully recovered from my eating disorder, that lense helped me more than any other form of treatment ever has. I am, generally speaking, morally opposed to a lot of what I'm doing right now. But I also need to do it, because I don't want to risk tumor growth and complications or surgery. And I know going into it with this specific motivation and attitude is different than just deciding to diet because I think I need to be skinny to be pretty or whatever, that I'm doing something medically necessary and not actually betraying my values, but it doesn't always feel that way, and that struggle is very hard.

I also don't know how to talk about what I'm doing without using diet culture terms and concepts at times. But I need to be able to talk about this whole experience on my blog, because it's kind of taking over my life atm. So I will do my best to warn for things and I will ALWAYS at the very least use the tag "weight loss cw" on all posts related to this, because I don't want to be irresponsible or trigger people, but I also need to be able to talk about my life.

So. Below this is where I really start talking about what I'm doing and how it feels. Warning for some diet culture language, discussion of restricting certain foods, exercise, food journaling, nutritionists, intentional weight loss, and other related topics. No numbers, but this is potentially more triggering than posts related to my food issues have been in the past because I do discuss specific behaviors.

So. For the past month I've been attempting to lose weight. The current strategies I've employed include: exercising every day, keeping track of what I eat in a food journal, and cutting out a lot of "unhealthy" foods. I hate even saying that, I believe that all foods have a place in a healthy diet (and also that health isn't a moral obligation but that's a separate though related issue). But! I am doing a specific thing and don't have better language to talk about it! Saying "less nutritionally dense foods" just sounds stupid so, whatever. "Unhealthy" or "less healthy" it is for now. The biggest change is I'm not eating refined carbs 90% of the time. There's room for a little bit of them but not much. I'm trying to get a lot of protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Lots of vegetables and legumes and whole grains and whatnot. The good news for me is that I actually already really like a lot of those foods. Lentils are one of my favorite foods of all time, I like all beans, I like most vegetables, I like farro and brown rice, I like carrots and hummus, I like all fruits except grapefruits, etc. I enjoy the foods I do get to eat. So that's nice. But even though I ate all of those things before, these days it's all I eat pretty much. I used to also eat potato chips and m&m's and things like that. But I got rid of all of that stuff and haven't had it in over a month.

I'm also exercising every day. So far it's been primarily on my exercise bike that I have at home, because it has a desk attached and I can distract myself on my computer while I bike, because I HATE exercise. I just hate it. I hate being gross and sweaty and feeling like my heart's pounding and I can't breathe, but that's the fucking point lol. My muscles hurt and sweat drips down my face and it's just miserable. But as of today my dad and I have joined the local community center, which has a pool. Swimming is the one form of exercise I like. You don't feel how sweaty you are because you're in the water, your joints don't hurt, you can pretend to be a mermaid. It's so much better. So that's really good news. Hopefully I'll swim a few times a week and use the bike on the other days, and that will make everything more pleasant and also use more muscles than just my legs on the bike.

The thing is, it's actually not that hard to eat this way? My brain is obsessed with food rules, and has been since I was literally in preschool. I have always had various rules around food. Adjusting those rules to be more permissive is incredibly difficult, but adjusting them to be stricter? Not hard. I'm not tempted to "fall off the wagon" or whatever, because those foods have entered a space in my brain called "forbidden" and so I can't even imagine eating them without an alarm blaring in my head. And that's dangerous. The thing that is hard about what I'm doing is I know I'm in relapse zone, but I don't know how to not fucking be there when I'm trying to lose weight. I'm spending hours and hours each day obsessing about food and exercise, planning what to eat next, researching nutrition information and vegan recipes, etc etc etc. It sucks. I get trapped in these awful spirals and it's just all-encompassing. I've managed to avoid the worst behaviors: I haven't looked up fitspo even though I've had strong urges to do so, I mostly manage to avoid counting calories, and I don't let myself look at the scale. My therapist takes my weight once a week but I don't look. I'm trying to keep things on the healthier side, to not just full on relapse. But it's really, really fucking difficult to do both at the same time. I don't know how to find the balance yet.

The good news is that I found a nutritionist who I think shares a lot of my values and is willing to support me with weight loss, which I was worried wouldn't be possible. Bc all the anti-diet folks don't do weight loss at all, and all the weight loss people are...evil? Yeah, evil. But I really feel the need for professional support, even more than just my therapist, and so I didn't know what to do. But I think I found someone. I haven't met with her yet, but I've gotten in touch and hopefully we'll find a time for next week and I'll be able to update with how she is. Because this is really hard, and trying to balance the physical and mental without falling off a cliff is proving impossible without a lot of help. I have good help from my therapist, but if I could have some additional support it would be a good thing. So fingers crossed for that.

Favorite place in the world you’ve visited?

I visited a town near this mountain in China called Siguniangshan Town once and I loved it so much. My country is pretty hot, so I enjoyed the cold air very much. The buildings there are so pretty, and the food is just amazing. Also I saw yaks and wild horses, which was really cool.

Something you’re proud of yourself for?

I'm proud of getting through 2023. It was a really stressful year for me, especially during my exams, but I pushed through. I've just received my results, and I'm happy to say that I passed with flying colours!

The Invisible life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, and The Hand, The Eye and The Heart by Zoe Mariott

Something that makes your heart happy when thinking about it?

My dogs - the way they practically melt when I scratch a specific spot on their bodies. The way Hollie curls up into a ball when she sleeps, and the way Mochi sleeps in the most ridiculous positions. The way they'd literally start climbing me if they want more attention. I just love them so much.

No. I hate them. Whenever I'm forced to watch one, I'd spend the next few days sleeping on my sister's bed and jumping at every little thing.

Ms Mocha, I keep hearing there's something to Sagi, but all I see is a defiance against even considering changing his ways.

He is perfectly satisfied with causing pain and suffering and he see's no reason to change as he has told several creatures who have approached him.

I guess I could give him the Batman Begins speech, but he's obviously content with what he does defining him.

Lightning seems convinced there's something more too who he is on the inside. I would laugh at that, but I too was convinced there was more to Diamond Tiara, long before anypony saw it.

But where I was proven right to see something good in Diamond, I could be wrong about there being no good in him.

@ask-gadzooks seems to care enough to fight me all day on it. So like, what am I missing?

Alright, time to tell you just what the deal is.

To be fully frank with you, @ask-gadzooks are correct about your recent behavior toward our newest Antagonist. Notice my word usage fillies, that will be important later.

Your reactions towards him and the constant calling him of names are childish in nature, and shows your lack of ability to see the nuance of his character, no matter how much I tell you that he isn't what he seems on the surface.

This is common with most though, because in your head Sagi is a villain even though I never stated that he was. Let's go back to the word antagonist. The definition of antagonist is a person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary. The antagonist serves as a constant obstacle to the protagonist. In this case, all of our protagonists.

I keep trying to illustrate that Sagi's problem can not be solved with the same methods he would use to dispatch someone else. Name-calling won't work on him, he doesn't give a shit about anyone who isn't his mother, or friend. (And he currently only has one friend, Lightning) if anything, you're just egging him on to continue calling you names, because he's getting a negative reaction from you. Fear is his favorite food, but he feeds on most strong negative emotions, like anger for example. Arresting him isn't an option, because while yes torturing dragons isn't the best thing to do, it's not exactly in the law that you can't harshly punish a criminal for a heinous crime. And that's another thing.

You hear "He tortures dragons to harvest their fear and enjoys it a little too much" and completely ignore the facts that:

HE HAS STANDARDS FOR THE DRAGONS HE HARVESTS FEAR FROM, THEY HAVE TO BE CRIMINALS, AND THEY HAVE TO HAVE COMMITTED EXTENSIVE EGREGIOUS CRIMES.

HE DOESN'T HARM ANYTHING THAT CAN'T WITHSTAND HIS MAGIC.

He harvests fear from dragons specifically because they're strong enough to withstand violence if it gets to that point, and for the most part, after they have a run-in with him, the likelihood of repeat offenses from dragons (the most dangerous non-ponies) drops to zero. And yeah, it sucks for the dragons that live in Equestria that choose to commit crimes, but THEY COMMIT CRIMES, they aren't exactly innocent.

Another problem I have is that you compare Sagi to two characters he has NO similarity to.

Diamond Tiara. She was a spoiled rich kid brat with a superiority complex and insecurities that she took out on others around her. And yeah, she didn't harm others physically, but she did harm others because she regularly made fun of Scootaloo, a disabled child for her disability. REGULARLY. Diamond was a bully, Sagi despises bullies, he isn't one. Diamond also didn't have to hurt other people to literally survive. Sagi unfortunately does. And you just assume he's fine with that existence and not that he's just I dunno, gotten used to it?

That Detective you keep mentioning from that old Batman Cartoon. (I don't remember his name or which cartoon he's from) Based on your description of this surly man. He has a surface-level comparison at first glance. But Sagi is in no way gluttonous, he isn't surly, and he's not a jerk. Sagi's quite polite to people who treat him politely. He called you a snooty earth pony because you were BEING A SNOOTY EARTH PONY to his friend, so much so that you made her cry. You've mentioned how that wasn't your intention, but you still hurt his friend, of course, he would defend her in the only way he knows how to deal with bully behavior (not calling you a bully, but that was bullish behavior) threats. Which usually works because of his Umbrum ancestry.

The reason everyone else seems to see what you can't is because they are trying to understand him. You, are antagonizing him. He's going to react the way you have in your mind "a villain" would react because you treat him like one. Which, I may add, his mother? Selena? TOLD YOU NOT TO DO THAT. She explicitly told you that Sagi is a product of his circumstances, how do you think a child that is born with a near uncontrollable urge to cause harm and fear to everything around him because if he doesn't he'll die is supposed to grow up? Sagi found a way to fulfill his need to harvest fear the way his personality likes, with the least likely way to cause casualties. He doesn't understand why everyone is so mad at him for finding a way to live without hurting anyone innocent of wrongdoing. Which, I repeat, THE DRAGONS HE HAS TORTURED ARE NOT INNOCENT, THEY ARE ALL GUILTY OF CRIMES THAT HAVE HARMED OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE.

The ONLY Dragon he has gone too far with is Sanori. That was a moment where, like Selena said, he got overexcited. Sanori was (and is) a very strong dragon because he's the son of a dragonlord. (Not Ember, a different set) Sanori was the first, and only dragon, not to surrender as easily. He also was super terrified of being taken into custody, which just thrilled Sagi even more. The fact that he was a cop, and not just because he was an Umbrum, was terrifying to someone, was the equivalent of practical euphoria for Sagi. That just his presence as an officer of the law put the practical fear of God into a criminal. He didn't want it to end, he didn't want Sanori to get away, and he was known for flying to evade capture. So the first chance he got, he took that option away. It was at that point that Sagi stopped himself because if he went any further he would have killed Sanori in front of multiple people. (Screams of pain tend to draw a crowd) Sagi realized he was enjoying it too much, and left Sanori there. He didn't want to lose himself in the process of consuming the most potent fear he's ever gotten in his life.

Sanori's fear, even his residual fear, was enough to keep Sagi alive and well for years after the fact. All throughout Cinna's other half of growing up. It's no different than being addicted to something. Fear is his favorite emotion to feed on, he is addicted to causing fear.

What Lightning, is trying to illustrate, is that she knows Sagi on a personal level. And she can see the signs of an addiction. (You know, considering she's also a cop. A VERY GOOD cop) And she has had conversations with Sagi, actual conversations. If you notice, she talks to and about Sagi like a regular person, because in the end, he is a normal person with severe issues. He is stuck in his ways, but that doesn't mean he has no desire to change, he just doesn't have a valid reason. From his POV, he's only hurting people who deserve it, he has all the friends he needs, and his mother (and father) is doing well. Why does that have to change?

If you really want to see all the parts of the story I've been trying to show you since he was introduced, Approach him with the mindset of trying to actually understand the why of how he is now, not what he's done in the past.

🍄How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

A variety of ways, sometimes I get inspired to write an AU based on an episode of a show, or a novel etc. Or sometimes my brain just pops ideas into my head.

🍉Are you a pantser or a plotter?

I am very much a plotter. It's also why I don't often get much written because I need SO much to be planned before I can write.

🍒What genres/tropes do you find yourself using most often?

Fluff, 5+1, Domestic Slice of Life, AU's - I am an absolute sucker for AU's.

🥝Who are your literary influences, and have they shaped your own writing?

As much of a problematic person as they were, Anne Rice's first 3 vampire chronicles books were the books that got me thinking...oh I really wanna do this kind of thing. J R R Tolkien's descriptions very much shaped my own (i used to write horrifically long paragraphs). Neil Gaiman inspired my shorter style, quirky dialogue with inside jokes aimed at the reader.

🥕What's your favorite fic you've written, and why?

My favourite fic is a toss up between "Your Arms Are Like Corset Strings" (9-1-1, Buddie) and "Rainbow Coloured Monstrosity" (9-1-1: Lone Star, Tarlos).

🥨How do you overcome writer's block?

When I work it out I'll tell you haha. I don't think I've ever managed beyond just pushing through and hate-smashing at the keyboard, or just waiting for the inspiration to come back by itself.

🍕What's your favorite comment you've received on a fic?

Honestly as cliche as it might sound, all comments I get are my favourites. I couldn't pick any specific ones, I enjoy comments so much.

🌭Do you have any writing rituals to help 'get in the zone'?

I use a lot of notebooks, I also get really sad and make powerpoint presentations of planning. Then I either listen to music, or put on some series that Ive seen enough times that it can be background noise.

🍔What's a headcanon that hasn't made it into a published fic yet?

I HC a few things for different people but they're not exactly huge things, but have a few examples. I headcanon that Alec Hardy is a huge fantasy novel fan. I headcanon that Eddie Diaz has chronic pain in his shoulders. I headcanon that Aziraphale hates the scent of pine.

🍭What's been your most challenging story to write, and why?

I'm writing a huge multi-part reincarnated soulmates AU, in which the soulmates meet each other throughout history and have different names etc. and it's...taking me soooo long. And honestly it's just because it so long and has so many historical points I need to research hahaha.

🍬What's a genre/trope you've never written, but might in future?

I'm...not sure tbh. Theres a lot of genre's/tropes I don't like or I'm not comfortable with so won't ever touch. But the ones I do like, I've attempted or I am in the process of attempting.

🍩What advice would you give to aspiring fic writers?

Just go for it. Find something you really, really want to see written and write it, because at the end of the day you write for yourself first and foremost. If you try to write to please everyone you'll stress yourself out too much.

🌶How dependent are you on feedback, good or bad?

Bad feedback is never warranted. I do not write for profit so therefore do not need amazon style reviews. Nor do I ask for constructive criticism. I appreciate if someone wants to tell me they like what I wrote though.

🥑What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a bunch of things: Doctor Who x Good Omens crossover - The events of "The Giggle" with Crowley tagging along. Broadchurch Whump - 2 entries, poor Alec is getting tormented. Broadchurch x Good Omens x Rab C Nesbitt crossover - Alec, Crowley and Davina are identical triplets. Shenanigans ensue. Buddie birthday gift for someone dear to me. Buddie soulmates AU.

🍹How do you decide a story is ready to post?

I finish writing it haha. I let it come to a natural stopping point and then try not to over think it.

🍊What's a story that changed significantly from its initial idea to the final draft?

My reincarnated soulmates AU. I've changed so many historical points and condensed some and completely scrapped a whole half of it haha.

🥠What's your approach to world-building?

Powerpoints. Powerpoints and mind maps haha. If I'm going AU I will plan it like I'm Tolkien creating middle earth haha XD.

🍎How do you prioritize which stories to work on when you have multiple ideas?

I don't. My brain goes brrr and tries to plan all of them at once to the point I can't work on ANY of them haha.

🌮How do you balance the desire to write for yourself versus the desire to write for an audience?

I have been writing on and off since I was 13, and I used to write entirely for the audience and it stressed me out. Whilst I enjoy audience responses and like to receive comments confirming that they enjoyed what I wrote, if I don't like it, I won't post it, but if I enjoyed what I wrote I will love it regardless.
