There's a whole lot of poetry in JTTW but nothing hits me quite like that first poem about the monkeys on Flower-Fruit Mountain

A whole lot of the poems in the book are there to capture a feeling rather than straightforward events, and while this isn't the first poem in the book it's the first one to do that. To express a feeling, a feeling that's familiar even for us, a simple life filled with joys and wonders and leisure that really can't be put any better way than this. It's like the written-text version of a montage set to peaceful music. And though the feeling of subsequent poems varies dramatically, I liked this way of writing right away. It moves your heart in a different way than plain prose would.

i think the thing that gets me the most about winteam is that they are both trying so hard for each other. they are both trying to be good enough for each other. they are both trying to push down and bury their own issues for each other. and it's not a healthy strategy for either of them but it's understandable and incredibly relatable. and it's also a testament to just how much they care about each other. team plays down his trauma and puts on a smile because he doesn't want to burden win and be too much for him. similarly, win buries his own fears and insecurities because he doesn't want to scare team away. they both have this deep-seated fear of not being good enough. and having this constant thread of conversation throughout with their friends about the importance of communication is incredibly fucking clever actually. and not just in a "maybe you should listen to your friends and communicate" way but in the fact that the show is making a point of showing that trauma fundamentally affects your ability to communicate your emotions.

like, there are all these people telling them to talk and be honest about how they feel. and i can understand why some folks are frustrated that they aren't doing that. but what is important to remember and what the show is consistently trying to tell us, is that the reality of living with any kind trauma is that communicating your emotions and being vulnerable in your emotions is incredibly terrifying and potentially very triggering. it is so much easier to put on a mask and be the person that you think they want you to be because that way you are less likely to get hurt and they won't be disappointed. like, yeah, them fucking in a public bathroom is hilariously on brand for them but it's also their way of being close to each other without having to verbally communicate their emotions. they communicate their emotions via sex because neither of them are ready to do so in any verbal capacity.

I LOVED Howl's moving castle now that I finally read it! The magical set up, everyone being equally annoyed and loved by each other, the wackiness of it all, the magic, the FIRE DEMONS, the emotions, the magic boxes in wales, the JEALOUSY, the contract!!!! The whole thing about knowing howl is in love when he doesn't spend 2 hours getting ready early in the book AND THEN he looks like a MESS saving sophie, the deceitfulness, howl knew sophie was under a spell, the fact that Calsifer came back but he is free now!!! Sophie hoping Howl is wearing the charmed suit to explain away her growing feelings, and THEN IT TURNS OUT HE ISNT AND SHE HAS TO ACCEPT THEM AS HER OWN EMOTIONS AAAAAAAAAA

Listen...Im seeing raw shots of Azul and Yuuta... My whole brain is like "UMMMM.... YES" like...I'm in love with how they are doing Azul. How he looks, how you can feel the movement. I CAN SEEE THIS MOVEMENT IN MY HEAD, that contract scene is such a good reference to Poor Unfortunate Souls . Manga Azul feeds into my view that he is a direct descendant of the Sea Witch. I love it... Can we talk about this? Cause Book 3 is still my favorite book out of everyones. It guy punched me so hard.

I always get a weird empty feeling when I buy some consumer product and it actually improves my quality of life. I've been trained from experience to expect the opposite - that things I buy won't really make me happy, that I'll get used to them. And so I mostly don't buy anything and just deal, which works out well for both my bank account and my expectations- there's nothing to subvert or disappoint if you don't expect anything.

But what if I'm fooling myself? What if I really would be noticeably happier if I indulged a bit more? Does it even matter? I'm not less content or fulfilled simply because I *could* be happier. What even is happiness? Is that a thing you can even quantify at all?

Every psychological or philosophical model of happiness must plainly be wrong, they are all far too simple to meaningfully describe any human experience. But what then? How do you manage an aspect of your life that will have such a major impact as "happiness" when you don't even understand how many things it really is, let alone what will maximize them or what effects that will have?
