#no in fact he's just a little ahead of the curve let me try to explain #again I'm not a historian I'm just sharing what I've read I might be misremembering stuff so don't quote me on this #high heels became extremely fashionable in the early 1600's probably just a few decades after Machete's time #and they were originally worn by men #because they were inspired by Persian riding boots #if your shoes had heels you'd have easier time keeping your feet in the stirrups (think of cowboy boots)#Europeans saw them thought they looked snazzy and they became wildly popular in noble circles fairly quickly #for some hundred years or so high heels were the epitome of class wealth power and status and they were essentially genderless #remember that concepts of masculinity and femininity are fluid and change over time #things that were seen as manly a few centuries ago may seem downright effeminate to a modern viewer #it's all matter of perspective neither is objectively more correct than the other #they started to separate into men's heels and women's heels around mid 1700's iirc but the changes weren't massive even then #and only truly went out of vogue when the French Revolution hit in 1789 #and people all across the continent were suddenly put off by everything that reminded them #of the frivolousness and extravagance of royalty and aristicracy #so in his canon timeline I don't think people are looking at him and going “hmmm that's pretty gay”#because heels hadn't become gendered yet #maybe he likes how they accentuate his already tiny paws and make his legs look even longer than they are #he's interested in fashion or at least likes to dress nicely in high quality garments #he tries very hard to look his best despite never really feeling comfortable in his skin #he was a real shrimp as a kid and even though he eventually grew up to be a beanpole he might still find the extra height appealing #no one's going to look down on him ever again #I admit the way I draw them is a lot more modern than the true historical style at the time but not outrageously so #artistic freedom and all that in the end I'm not aiming for 100% accuracy #modern au Machete has no excuses though he's just a little bit fruity #if the guy feels empowered by wearing little clip cloppers let him #answered #anonymous #Machete

One would think that one would eventually get over the distress and upset of getting a piece of clothing that says it's your size and looks amazing on the rack/the mannequin only to try it on and realize that your body makes it ugly, but one would be wrong.

My DnD group's DM is collaborating with the players on worldbuilding and I'm the only one playing a gnome so she gave me the go-ahead to make up whatever the hell I want as long as it doesn't affect gameplay too much. MY CITY NOW

#i decided all gnomes have tails and long sideburns (but not beards)#my character Meena shaves hers bc she's essentially nouveau riche and growing them out is considered old fashioned and provincial #and now i'm writing an essay about the cultural importance of sideburn styles in gnome communities #they start growing during puberty and having full sideburns is considered a sign of adulthood/maturity #nonbinary people traditionally had particular cultural niches and would style their facial hair according to their job/gender #but traditionally girls in her home region would wear them long and tied or braided in front #and when they got engaged they'd wear them pulled back with either end of a ribbon tied to each 'tail'#married gnome women have special jewelry for the same purpose but older women usually just tie theirs back like a ponytail #and the jewelry is just for show #men usually keep theirs fairly short #the tail thing is less interesting i just wanted Meena to have one bc i think it looks cool #i tried rearranging some of the tags to make it easier to read but they got scrambled even worse 😭#tumblr mobile i hate you. one thousand laser sword attack

it's weird. when I initially stopped shaving and cut my hair off I was pressured about both. I was explicitly told to go back to shaving and long hair. It sucked, but eventually I got over it and enjoyed it and was living my best life. And now, all the sudden, without anyone actually saying anything, I am feeling that pressure again. I am genuinely considering both, even though I don't want either.

#I have one? friend who I see semi-regularly who also has short hair and doesn't shave #literally everyone else I am friends with/know/everyone in my family/etc does #I'm going to six flags with friends this weekend and they all talked about spending hours in the shower doing full body shaves #every single woman I work with shaves and has at shortest a bob #I just want to feel not out of place #I don't like feeling like I stick out like a sore thumb #in pictures of me with other people it's almost jarring how different I look from everyone else #don't look like any of the women and have too much tit to look like a man #and no one I mention it to seems to get it. I've tried talking about it with my sister #and she's like 'I feel the same way :( cause I like a different kind of fashion and I'm not small and skinny enough'#and I don't want to downplay that or say that isn't happening and doesn't suck #but she has hair to her ass!!! she wears makeup! she shaves regularly!! she likes shopping and dresses and being pretty!!#she is gorgeous! and it's so obvious and like yeah maybe she feels out of place but visually she is not #I very very much am. I exclusively wear like 80% men's clothes at this point #I'm not sure I know anyone else who does that???? and it's very obvious that's what I'm wearing!!!!!#I can get along with other people and have similar interests and stuff #but I still feel out of place cause I don't visually fit in and it sucks

I think nearly all of lewis' aloof persona is carefully constructed, as is his over the top style in the paddock. He's extremely good at distracting ppl or showing only what he wants to. He mimics vulnerability but he's hiding the stuff he's really vulnerable about. All the woowoo spiritual "ohhhhh he's so GENUINE" stuff is also a front (see how kate wagner talked about him).

ooooh bold take and as a fellow mimicker of vulnerability to hide the stuff i'm really vulnerable about, i'm into it!! i understand from your tone that you don't mean this as a particularly good thing but i personally am here for interesting/compelling characters in the vroom vroom soap opera and don't care too much if they're Good People ™ or not lol. I think we should ban patterned tweed doctor or master costumes just to see if the costuming department can actually style a man without relying on stripes (or an outfit repeat) to make the outfit visually interesting.

I’m legitimately actually just curious at this point.

I literally started sobbing in a dressing room when my mom forced me to try on one of those frilly, tutu-like prom dresses and almost made me get it and somehow nobody realized I wasn't a girl

Another mid-19th century cartoonist for my collection: Archibald Henning. A Punch contributer and Albert Smith collaborator, credited for the illustrations in The Natural History of the Idler Upon Town (1848).

Albert Smith worked with a whole stable of artists, even Paul Gavarni, although they are not always clearly identified.

TFW my body is so abnormally shaped that I probably can't even find a swimsuit or a bra from torrid or lane bryant (aka the fashionable fat fashion places) and I have to resort to lands end and woman within
