okey dokey! i just finished the fallout show! some Thoughts under the read more
tl:dr, the (bethesda) fallout vibes were definitely there. i liked it as a show on its own merits but as a part of the series canon... i'm mad, and that anger is kind of overriding the little i liked about it. overall maybe 2.5/5 stars and im being generous
things i liked:
visually, it's stunning - i could see scenes already being made into gifsets - the color grading is pretty good; even in dark scenes i could see and understand what was happening
the sets are soooo good!! costume design was alright too
title cards were fun and cute
they did some interesting stuff with the cultures of both vault 33 and the brotherhood of steel
they used the sound effects from the games :)
i liked the wastelanders!!! big npc and random encounter energy. i kind of want a whole show of just them. for example i love the marketplace and settlement in filly; it feels very lived in
the background characters weren't just young thin able-bodied conventionally attractive white people :) there's so many elders, which i loved!! ma june and barv were cool. i love gruff old lesbians
lucy!!! she was already kind of weird and a little off-putting even in vault 33 ("what's your sperm count" as an opener to the husband she was just arranged married to is WILD) and i like that. she's sweet and bullheaded and surprisingly competent :)
maximus is kind of an ass, but is also a pathetic nerd and brotherhood dickrider who actually doesn't really know anything. kind of a girlfailure
the ghoul was pretty cool too!! i liked him, though more for his prewar story than the one he has post-apocalypse
lucy's brother norman kinda grew on me. "i lack enthusiasm for every job that i do here" so relateable. also short king <3
THE DENTIST THAT BUYS TEETH. never thought that would be a Thing but now that i think about it, it makes sense
the monsters that we have were cool!! wish there had been more of them
MATT BERRY IS IN THIS!! i just really like him so i got excited :))
maximus and lucy's "wanna have sex?" talk LMAO
vault 4's various mutations!!
those giant unwieldy fuckass duffel bags that brotherhood squires lug around hahahhahahaaha
vault 4 and its genetic experiments because its main conceit is that it was ruled by scientists who hybridized humans. it's exactly the right amount of fucked up i want in a vault
i like that the protagonists regularly get captured and eat shit
FRED ARMISEN IS ALSO HERE
haha hacking minigame :) also chatting via terminals (and im assuming pipboys?) is canon now
they're growing crops in the wasteland + bustling trade + livestock + pets yay
robobrain was cute
things i was just ok with:
dane, the they/them brotherhood of steel aspirant who was fucked over so maximus can get their spot as a squire LMAO what a waste of a potentially cool character
IT'S SO FUNNY that there's yodelling whenever the ghoul comes into the scene ????? WHY
fight scenes.... pretty good but someone definitely had the bloody mess perk (i don't do well with gore so ew yucky). also lots of [VATS NOISE]
pipboy was not used as much as i thought it would be
cousin stuff... i get it, i guess in a vault you'd have a lot of cousins and not a lot of choice, so some incest would probably happen
the ghoul being vault boy's inspiration?? not sure what to feel about that tbh
the casual dismemberments... and equally casual attaching of limbs... not even prosthetic limbs.....
the vaulties eating good healthy well-balanced meals. giving out caviar in the welcome basket. kinda 50/50 on it
the vault 31 - 32 - 33 subplot couldve been more fucked up
have brotherhood knights always been celibate or did i miss the memo
there are regular chickens and... deer? for some reason?
the ghoul's design. it's fine in action but mostly it's meh
the vault 4 cult for moldaver
vault 4 as a refuge for shady sands survivors. im mad about it but like. i get it
that guys "elixir" (some altered jet??) fixing everything about thaddeus' foot instantenously AND GIVING HIM HEALING POWERS???
things i did not like:
lucy's plot premise is very much fallout 3 redux
lucy and maximus as a ship is very meh and kind of forced and not compelling. go give us nothing!!!
wilzig's head as a macguffin that everyone is after... ehh kind of just okay as a plot device
also the ghoul randomly eating that other ghoul???
the squire who bullied maximus calls himself fat but he isn't fat?? not even chubby??? hello????? just got a soft face
water chip being fucked feels very fallout 3 also but they kind of dropped it?
they definitely named cooper howard after todd. as tribute probably, which he doesn't deserve
fiend = cannibal now?????
maximus recognizing vault 4 as a cult but not recognizing the brotherhood as one lol
vault tec evil capitalism vs hollywood communists storyline was kind of basic. and bland. and weak
the enclave could've been established + explored better
no geckos or any other west coast-specific monsters
showing me ncr ranger armor when the ncr is gone
ghouls have healing powers?? WITHOUT RADIATION??
things i hated hated hated:
the ghoul needing drugs to combat the Disease That Turns Ghouls Feral
feral ghouls being basically zombies :/
IN EPISODE FIVE. THEY REVEAL. THAT SHADY SANDS. WAS BOMBED. THE ENTIRE NCR. WAS BOMBED. IN 2277. THE YEAR OF THE FIRST BATTLE OF HOOVER DAM
BASICALLY RETCONNED FNV?? IM PUTTING MY EARS IN MY FINGERS AND GOING LA LA LAAAAA
VAULT-TEC DROPPED THE BOMBS ???? BIG MT + MR HOUSE BEING IN ON IT????
THE BIG STUPID FUCKING REVEAL IN EPISODE EIGHT?? THAT THE OVERSEER BOMBED SHADY SANDS BECAUSE HIS WIFE DIDN'T WANT TO GO HOME WITH HIM??? FUCK THAT???
the brotherhood being the main faction of the west coast now. booo!! booo!!!!
the fucking last shot of new vegas being a burnt out husk. probably foreshadowing that hank is going to house's body but. UGH I HATE IT
to summarize: it came out strong! and stumbled hard falling face fucking first at the finish line. i would have liked it a lot more if it did not shit on the west coast as much as it did. because what the FUCK. if it was set literally anywhere else and left the ncr alone i would have liked it more, because on its own, as a self-contained story, divorced from the rest of the fallout series canon, it's not bad!!! it's fun, there's some good bits, it has the ~vibes~ but - and this is a big but - i don't know what it's trying to say. it's all very surface level and the very vague themes i picked up on are not really reiterated in the plot
it's like... the bits that make it fallout are there. vaults. the brotherhood. ghouls. a dog named dogmeat. but there's something lacking. it's like your usual sci-fi post-apocalypse show with a fallout veneer. idk. i like it for what it is but also i hate it for what it's emblematic of. that's all

I need to know if I’m alone in this or maybe missing something.
It always bothers me when people say Tim’s childhood was so much worse than Jason’s, or even says they’re the same kinda thing. Am I the only one in this?? (More specifically when they compare them) Like it feels like they’re minimizing Jason’s story to nothing, when it makes his character up as much as his death does. (I’ve even seen people compare Tim’s childhood to Jason’s death, which is. A choice.)
Granted, I’m not a big Tim fan (he’s a cool character, just not the one I focus on) so maybe I’ve missed some part of his canonical backstory or ive subconsciously got something against his character idk.
But from my understanding, Tim is a rich kid who was taken care of (as in, he always had what he needed), just his parents were neglectful? Or away? (Not to say this isn’t bad, of course wouldn’t wish that on a kid either)
But Jason’s lived surrounded by crime and poverty, hell we see panels where he’s hurt and generally not havin a great time.
And I’m fine with people making angst worse because like, favourite character. I’m sure I’m guilty of doing the same to Jason (fave character bias and whatnot) it’s just something that strikes me as odd. But hey, maybe I just don’t know about some canon panel that shows Tim’s childhood as a tragedy where he almost died countless times (another thing I’ve seen fans use)
So yeah. Generally, what do you think about this? I am not too great with character analysis & whatever else, but I like the stuff you’ve said in regards to characters. I know you’re a Jason fan, unsure about how you feel about Tim/how much you know, but curious about your opinion anyway. Thanks.
You are not alone, anon.
You’re also not missing anything in canon, Tim’s childhood was not a tragedy (his parents traveled a lot and he spent his time in boarding school). Were his parents on the neglectful side? Yes. Does that equate to being parentless and living on the street before the age of 12? No. I answered an Ask about Tim a little while ago explaining why I don’t really care much for Tim in the comics or a lot of fanfics. And I only ranted a little about how projecting Jason’s trauma onto Tim is Not. Cool. So maybe check that out.
As for my opinion on this … *takes a deep breath* Let me start by saying that everyone should like what they like, read what they want, write what they want, etc. No judgement or shame intended at all.
But … my opinion is that the enemy-to-caretaker trope is to blame for the over abundance of this dynamic in the fandom.
It seems like this trope grew out of/is a Gen take on enemies-to-lovers. I have absolutely no problem with this trope in general. In fact, I quite enjoy it in certain settings. But the thing is, lovers can be equals. But a caretaker, that has an inherent power imbalance to the relationship. A caretaker takes care of a person who is in some way weaker or less able than them.
So, to make Jason a caretaker for Tim, you somehow have to make Tim weaker, and with time and repetition that’s gotten amplified to much weaker.
The easiest way to do this is to jack up the angst and trauma of Tim’s origin story and increase his overall vulnerability. Because in reality, the inherent power imbalance between Jason and Tim is not that significant. Jason is only two years older than Tim. They’re both supposed to be badass vigilantes who can fight and solve crimes. Tim’s home life was loads more stable and supportive.
Play a few games of fanfic telephone, and all of a sudden you have a baseline of touch-starved Timmy who was made to sleep in a cupboard under the stairs as a wee little niblet and then Lazarus-mad Jason came along and tried to murder him repeatedly (nope), slit his throat (‘twas but a scratch), and generally traumatized him beyond repair (Tim is Robin, pretty sure he’s been beaten up before). 🤦‍♀️
That’s my opinion, anon! Thanks for the ask! 💙

Ok so I read awtdy au stuff in order according to a link you made and it gave me so many questions.
Like when exactly did they swap in the new timeline? Because it can’t be from their beginnings as Meta wouldn’t be sealed for the being too powerful like Galacta was so unless you can give another reason for the sealing then Meta shouldn’t be sealed if it was at that time. And other times have other complications due to be not being swapped from the beginning.
I know Gooey’s definitely dead because come on we know how Galacta’s been raising Kirby and while I am mildly displeased at Galacta causing the death of what I consider a very interesting character I know it definitely happens.
I know Necrodeus’s ambush on Kirby in the original time line definitely is a surprise for Galacta when it happens in the altered one as there is absolutely no reason for him to know it happens because why would he. He wasn’t summoned during the events of the game and who would know it that ambush happens? Marx definitely doesn’t know because come on why would he. Bandana dee probably know about from what Kirby told him during the original but as during the ambush no one was with Kirby; Bandana dee wouldn’t know what exactly happened like the exact when or where.
Does Stardream and other Ancient made stuff know of the timeline altering? Because I personally find it kinda weird if they don’t remember and that Galacta doesn’t use this chance to get another wish for something.
I hope that Galacta since he is more ruthless doesn’t kill Kracko after Kirby fights him. Because the Kracko has a kid named Kracko Jr. I am kinda finding some humor in that Galacta, the guy with a attack that has heart shape on it, is so heartless. Anyways I have liked the story.
okay, this is a pretty long ask with a lot of questions; i'll answer what i can! to start with, here's a basic timeline breakdown which will hopefully help:
Tumblr media
the rest will be mostly text answers with one little drawing at the end!
when did they swap? how did meta knight get sealed?
during the events of the haltmann invasion. there is a little bit of wifflewaffle 'what's canon' here, but we adjusted the canon ending of robobot a tiny bit to allow galacta knight to appear (as he does in Meta Knightmare Returns) and for him to defeat meta knight and make a wish on star dream. galacta knight wished for them to trade places; for meta knight to go into the crystal and for himself to be sent to popstar to enjoy meta knight's life. he did this to ensure his own escape and also to make meta knight suffer. strength, power, or being 'the greatest warrior in the galaxy' didn't factor into this in any way; the crystal is a magical prison and doesn't care who it's holding.
is ____ character dead?
probably. sorry. this is not a lighthearted AU and galacta knight purposefully seeks out and eliminates kirby's allies in order to isolate him. there is a happy "everybody lives" ending, but if the (mostly temporary) existence of all this character death or the absence of your specific faves for any reason upsets you, then you do not need to read this au! gooey in particular was actually already asked after in the comments section of this post! <- (cw: lying and psychological manipulation)
Tumblr media
what about (events in non-mainline games)?
this au is dreamland four centric (+ magolor) and tends to follow the mainline games more than others. none the less, in response to Mass Attack in particular: this occurs right before galacta knight's entry point. so there's a chance that it would have been over before he even got there
would galacta knight know about (event)?
i really like the attention to detail you thought about on whether he is or isn't summoned or present in certain in-game timelines! however for the sake of this au, there is a headcanon in place that galacta knight exists atemporally and outside of time, and has done for longer than many people can fathom. he can see and interact with events from timelines and dimensions to his liking; he was inhibited on doing this by being trapped in the crystal this is implied a little in the ending of the another dimension fight comic, where he tells meta knight "to watch". from within the crystal, meta knight can see all of this new timeline unfolding, because the crystal is turning him into an atemporal being as well. there is also a specific connection between him and galacta knight at play, but rest assured; galacta knight is simply obsessed with meta knight's timeline and if he had arrived before necrodeus's ambush he would most certainly have been expecting it and would probably have just not let kirby take a nap that day.
what about what other characters know?
bandee knows what he's experienced first hand, and what kirby's told him. so sure, he'd know about necrodeus- and other adventures before his time- second hand from kirby. marx (who is not present in base awtdy au) is also caught up by the "here's the new rules of the universe! this guy was always here!" that occurs when galacta knight assumes meta knight's place. however, he is capable of noticing that meta knight is missing because meta knight is part of galactic nova's timeline, and so he can put two and two together. if the wish had removed anyone else, marx would not have been able to tell. he is however very smart and extremely attentive, and does have ways to notice other shit happening; which is how he clues in during the clockwork heart variant of this au.
galacta knight heart motifs vs heartlessness
not really a question but yeah, it's delicious isn't it? this is why i love him as an eldritch, unfathomably relentless and unstoppable villain lmao. i actually find the version of him we have created in our heads so compelling and interesting; we have bucketloads of characterisation for him if anyone's ever interested!
wouldn't galacta knight try to get another wish?
have never said he is not trying to do this
does stardream or any other ancient made stuff know about the timeline altering?
the answers to this are important actually and tie into our headcanons for the wishing stars and how they work. stardream knows because it powered the wish. galactic nova does not know because the wish was not made by her; also she just doesn't care. several other ancient artifacts don't know, but have the means to figure it out. some definitely remember better times, though:

Since y’all liked me getting beaten down by GX characters so much, here’s:
Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V Characters ranked by how easily I could take them in a fight
same rules apply: fisticuffs only and my personal feelings about the characters do not matter
also since ARC-V is WEIRD AF when it comes to characters this will be characters that are exclusive to ARC-V. so no repeat of Asuka. We already know I bite harder than she does.
without further ado, here we go:
Reira Akaba. No shit. is literally a baby. if I was a baby kicking kind of person I could punt her into the sun. However as I do not kick babies I am more inclined to wrap her in a lil blanket and put her in the corner.
Yuya Sakaki. Bitch. One good step on his toes and he’s going “reaction shot?!” I pull on his stupid fuckin goggles and snap them back onto his face. he’s down. count to ten.
Yuzu Hiragi. Canonically the bracelet girls really suck at holding their own at any given moment. Yuzu is the weakest physically because she has never seen war or hardship to the level of the other three. I could take her in four seconds. pigtail tug time.
Yuri. The second weakest physically of the Yu boys. has been coddled by Leo for years. probably sparred with Sho at the academy to make himself feel better about having 0% body weight from muscles. eat shit you purple motherfucker.
Dennis McField. not only would I beat him, I would enjoy doing it. I’d love to curbstomp that motherfucker off a boat, except he already did that to himself. physically he is a fuckin twig and I am five feet seven inches of pure unadulterated god complex. he’ll wish I turned his ass into a card.
Reiji Akaba. the scarf works to his detriment. I do two laps around him holding the end of that thing and suddenly his face is turning blue and he’s calling for papa. unfortunately for him I have zero mercy.
Rin. again, the bracelet girls are notoriously bad at being strong independent women. we literally don’t see Rin for most of the series because she got herself kidnapped off the cuff. that being said she could probably hold her own against me, but I think she’s too sweet for that.
Z-ARC. We’ve established I bite. even outside of human form, if you look at him, he’s got a fuck ton of exposed veins, both as regular Z-ARC and Yuya Z-ARC. chompy chompy motherfucker you’ll pass out from the blood loss before I can kick your ass properly.
Yugo. Canonically relies on his motorcycle for fuckin everything. lost to Yuri because he rolled a nat one on his constitution saving throw. even though he’s probably physically in shape from motorcycle stuff I could flick him in the forehead and he’d be whining like a baby. If I got the first shot in, I’d have a 99% chance of winning. If he got to me first it would go to about 60%. again, I bite.
Leo Akaba. Here’s where we get into characters that have a greater than 50% chance of beating me. Leo is canonically ripped and also has zero emotions. I would only win if I got close enough for a nut kick, but there’s only one person who wants to be that close to Leo Akaba and it sure as hell ain’t me.
Sora Shuin’in. Holy fuck who let their feral cat off its leash. Sora is literally insane and I am requesting backup. He’d shove that lollipop so far up my ass that I’d be able to tell whether it was lime or green apple. I live in fear of Sora suddenly materializing in my room
Ruri Kurosaki. Remember how I bite? She bites harder. She puts up with No Shit and also has No Fucks To Give.
Serena. No further explanation needed. I fear that explaining it further would cause Feral Child #2 to burst into my brain and start kicking.
Yusho Sakaki. Sweet mother of blue eyes white dragon. remember how I said my personal feelings don’t matter? now they do. smash. next question. wait what were we talking about?
Shun Kurosaki. kinda lost the plot on Yusho but we’re back on track now. Shun canonically took out armed guards by Batmanning his ass up a wall. There’s posters up for him that say “lost dog” and the caption is just “if you find him please keep him”.
Yuto. Everything that Shun is + Ruri taught him how to effectively bite.
Noburu Gongenzaka. he is actually ripped and wears cement shoes for funzies. he could probably just stomp once and my shaky joints would give out on their own. bye.
Yoko Sakaki. canonically beat the stuffing out of people in her past life and I would let her. angry mom energy means I barely make it out alive. smash. wait— shit—

Some random thoughts about last night episode:
Loved seeing the Crown Keepers for this 2-part thingy, sad to see them go out like this. I would've loved for this whole storyline to play out over a regular, say, 4 episodes arc of EXU; like, don't get me wrong, I loved this idea of switching parties mid-episode and exploring the other half of the story and how Dorian ended up coming back, but the whole "what they were doing between EXU:Kymal and episodes 92 and 93" felt a bit rushed and condensed due to those restrains.
On a similar note, what happened with Deni$e? I know that having Aimee play 2 characters simultaneously would've been a lot (and also, an incredible power move and probably hilarious). Apparently I misremembered what Deni$e's saw through the portal at her exit in episode 63, 'cause I was sure that Dariax was there in Westruun, but it was more like, she was gonna try and find him, not that she saw him there. Glad that she still got a mention when Dorian reunited with Bells Hells.
Crown Keepers, oh sweet, poor, Crown Keepers. I expected something akin to a bad ending, but somehow they splitting and going their separate ways ended up hurting more than if all of most of them had died, instead of just Cyrus (RIP Cyrus, you delightful himbo with gambling problems).
Something I've been wondering if that we're gonna get some type of Avengers-like team up between the different champions of the gods. I know most people are expecting the big team up to end up happening between Vox Machina, the Mighty Nein and Bells Hells, but this whole idea of the gods talking and taking their champions to join the fight against Predathos got me thinking if we're gonna get some type of god squad EXU going on. We know Opal and Fy'ra are together now and probably on route to somewhere; there's also whatever Morrigan's gonna do now (and is she just an empowered champion but not THE champion of the Matron like Vax, or does she have multiple ones like other gods?). And we know of other champions like Teven Klask and Zerxus for Asmodeus (and come one, who wouldn't want Luis to be back as Zerxus), or Arkhan for Tiamat (tho in this case, considering he's Joe Manganiello's character, and how he was canonized in D&D lore, maybe he's off the table).
On a similar note, it does got me thinking about the fact that Vex, Scanlan, Pyke and Yasha are all champions of their respective gods (though in Vex and Scanlan's case, my guess is that it was only a temporary thing).
Back to the Crown Keepers, sad to see Dariax and Dorian separated. Like, I get the why (tho I would've loved to see Dariax with Bells Hells), doesn't mean I like it. Also, I guess it's kinda telling of Dorian to always make similar exists when confronted with a heavy emotional weight: the way he left Dariax playing in Zephrah felt pretty similar to him leaving the toy floating back in Jrusar when he left Bells Hells. I like the thematic consistency of him leaving a place kinda like a breeze or a gentle gust of wind.
Also, our blue boy is going through some stuff. Seeing him snap like that, love the complexity that Robbie put there, but also, got me worried about some decisions he could make.
Loved the reunion with Bells Hells of course and the brief glimpses of them catching up. Wish it could've gone for a little longer, I get the why (no one wants the live play equivalent of a clips episode).
Excited for next week, and for whoever's gonna be present and the camp in Bassuras and to see if they're going after Ludinus in Aeor or something else (also, I would be shocked if Sam's new character doesn't appear by then).

trying to put my (mostly) child kaeya headcanons in one spot. brace yourself this is gonna be so long
first i think he was around 8 years old when he was left in mondstadt.
before that he lived with his father always moving from place to place. or maybe... i dont know honestly. they didn't live in khaenri'ah (whatever's left of it) because i like the idea that kaeya is the last hope for a place he's only heard stories about. for people he has barely met. and he yearns for it all the same, enough to run away as a stowaway on a ship just for the slim chance he'll get to meet it, to return to a place he only knows through other people's memories... yeah it's a thought i like to entertain. so anyway i dont know where exactly kaeya lived before my headcanons for this are really vague lmao. im torn between making him be raised in some corner of teyvat, or somewhere very abyss touched, or... a secret third thing i dont yet know...
i think his mother died when he was so young he has barely any recollection of her and it haunts him a bit. he cant remember what she looked like. to have an idea he can just look in a mirror though. he's her spitting image.
unsure about siblings... i think he didnt have any
i dont think his father was abusive. neglectful maybe. he was really awful at the father job but mostly because of how emotionally distant he was. he never hit kaeya or went out of his way to be cruel to him, he was just very stern. kaeya was a child who didn't really know comfort. all his basic needs were met, but his father just wasn't the type to hug or say words of encouragement, to calm him down from nightmares, to soothe a fever beyond just bitter medicine and leaving kaeya laid down on the cot alone. i think the closest they ever got to that sort of connection was when he taught kaeya their clan's history, which we know he did from canon. that piece of paper where the handwriting shows an adult guiding a child's hand on the paper makes me. Feel Things. he was not a soft man or a good father by any means but. *gestures vaguely*
and you know what. i think he loved kaeya in his own way. which is to say that he loved kaeya more as a means to an end than as a son. or maybe not. maybe leaving kaeya was more difficult for him than i give him credit for. i cant really decide. either way 2/10 for effort his parenting sucked and left deep scars in this poor poor child BUT he was not a heartless asshole is what im trying to say
anyway kaeya has very bittersweet very mixed feelings about him. he left his own son all alone in an unfamiliar land for unclear reasons. placed a burden nobody should ever have to carry on the shoulders of a child. he never embraced him or told him he loved him. but at the same time we see kaeya in game trying to understand his father's motivations for abandoning him there. that maybe a happier life could have been a factor. his safety. assuming this is, like, true. i headcanon that it is. it's not the entire reason by far. but it could have been part of it. maybe that's called "wishful thinking". we'll find out one day i hope
i don't really know what to make of the entire "you're our last hope" thing. as in, what exactly does that entail. what did his father tell him. im just kinda waiting patiently for them to actually tell us what's up. i can tell you it was a ridiculous amount of pressure on kaeya though. he might have been mature for his age and forced to grow up faster than he should have but a lot of it was simply beyond his comprehension. like, that's an entire seven year old child. he shouldve been playing with toys. anyway. kaeya who has felt guilt as his standard everyday main emotion since he was little
i think kaeya's father taught him to speak, read and write in common, so kaeya could understand people pretty well when he was left in mondstadt and could read basic stuff
an extension of this headcanon: i think each region has their own language besides just common tongue, and that in general people can speak both, especially in the big cities, while in rural areas people will probably only speak the region's mother tongue. i read a mutual's headcanon like this once and it rewired my brain so i borrowed it. also common varies from place to place because there are different dialects from mixing with the nations' other languages. to make it fun!
so when kaeya gets to mondstadt he can't speak mondstadtian specifically but he can speak common and the ragnvindrs can all speak both. eventually as he stays there kaeya learns mondstadt's language and loses the accent (a very conscious effort from his part)
more on the accent: if you listen closely to him nowadays, some word or other still sounds odd, maybe too stiff, the way he rolls his tongue on certain letters- but it's very subtle
kaeya hasn't spoken his mother tongue in so long he inevitably has forgotten certain things, and he was so young when he stopped speaking it that there are things he simply never learned. i think this haunts kaeya sooo bad. he's someone who's always trying to keep little pieces of his past, of things that have a lot of emotional value for him; he's someone who values memories, in particular physical, tangible pieces of memories. and we see him do this with his roots, like adding khaenri'ahn symbols and motifs to his outfits, saving slips of paper written by his father about his family's story, etc..
so anyway the fact he's forgetting bits and pieces of his mother tongue makes him grasp desperately at whatever's still left of it in his memory. i wonder if he writes what he can om scraps of paper, or maybe an actual notebook; i wonder also if he did similar things as a child too? though it's something he'd have to keep insanely well hidden and the paranoia about someone finding it out would absolutely eat him alive
okay back to his childhood. when he's taken in by the ragnvindrs i think he's very quiet and only speaks when spoken to. he is so unfathomably scared and lonely and everything is terrifyingly unfamiliar but any genuine manifestation of fear and anxiety and homesickness is saved for the dead of night when everyone's asleep and won't see/hear him cry. he keeps to himself, acts very polite, doesn't bother anyone with asking for help or for anything beyond what he's already been offered.
diluc was very happy about having another kid his age living under the same roof and almost immediately saw him as a little brother and kaeya simply could not match the enthusiasm. they took it as him just being shy, and to an extent that was part of it, but also he simply did not want to be there at all. no matter how wonderfully kind those people were to him, kaeya missed his father and his mother and the homeland he didnt even know in person but that was his biggest responsibility. it was such an enormous change and he missed the familiarity so much it made him ill. like literally. i think he spent his first or second week with the ragnvindrs bedridden
im very fond of the hc that kaeya took ill easily as a child.
kaeya had nightmares often. i absolutely cannot see him asking for comfort in any direct way. most of the time he'd just hold his own hand through it. other times he'd slip out of bed and see there was still light coming from the study. he'd sit on an armchair next to crepus, who already knew kaeya would hardly ever speak about what was making him upset, and watch him work until he fell asleep again.
i think kaeya was a very scrawny kid who looked a bit younger than he actually was. next to diluc (who im always torn between making just seven months older than him, or a year and seven months older) he seemed even tinier. while diluc was the picture of a healthy boy, all full red cheeks and bright eyes, kaeya was too lean, eyes too tired, sometimes distant, like he's not entirely present, lost in thought. you could see a sadness in him sometimes that seemed deeper than anything a child his age should know. kaeya was quiet not just because he didn't speak a lot, but because he seemed to exist silently. if he disappeared to be alone for a while and didn't want you to find him, you would not find him.
and anyway. i like the idea of him slowly allowing himself to be louder as he becomes more comfortable with the ragnvindrs. and revealing his more sarcastic side lol. he's always been quick witted, he was just too timid at first
child kaeya who was such a weird kid. he spoke in a way that often lacked the childishness expected from someone who's yet to turn nine. said odd cryptic things with zero explanation. banned from sharing bedtime stories after scaring diluc with overly fucked up khaenri'ahn folk tales. normalest child alive. i think he bit into a crystalfly once
oh and kaeya absolutely came up with the whole "i come from a family of pirates" thing as a kid. i think he read about pirates in a book once and was completely enamored with the idea. and one side effect of being a secret agent pawn spy is the ability to spin wild tales on the spot. so anyway did he convince diluc he was toootally a pirate. yes. diluc believed him for way too long
no wonder he's so good at telling stories to kids nowadays. he's had practice
about the eyepatch: i can never settle on just one headcanon!! option one: his eye was fine as a kid and he only wore it sometimes for the pirate roleplay, then he started wearing it everyday after The Fight because diluc wounded him; option two: he always wore the eyepatch because there is something abyss/khaenri'ah related going on with his right eye (don't ask me what exactly. though im fond of the idea that it's connected to his father and it's basically what allows him to fulfill the spy role, in some nebulous way.) and during the fight diluc aimed for it on purpose; there's probably a secret third option im forgetting about. i lean more towards option one these days i think.
okay im out of headcanons for now. i bet that the moment i click post im gonna remember ten more. but its ok. i can make another post if needed. never forget that i can speak about kaeya for literal hours and that, if prompted, i will do so

Giving Doctor Who a New Chance, Part 3: The Giggle
It's nice that they're bringing back some classic villain, but I really wish they had the Toymaker butcher some other language. The gag is just not funny at all when you actually speak German
Ok, that's an illustrative montage of a mightyfine chaos
IDK what I think of this - set it up in a way that it can be reset again.
oooh, Mel is back! As a 6th Doctor fan, I appreciate this. Did not expect that. She still got that perky way of talking.
Having seen the eps he was in, slipping over a bottle of Vodka is exactly like Sabalon Glitz would die, but hey, at least he lived to a ripe old age.
Donna just landed herself a new job. I guess there's that duality in human's fluctuating confidence levels again cause she glibly asks for double but looks ecstatic that it worked
so, Donna doesn't remember in detail, but she got a rough glimpse
the guy playing the Toymaker IS pulling off the creepy clown act pretty well tho
I really liked that scene between Donna & the Doctor in the infinite cabinet with the Doctor re-evaluating his life choices.
That's another thing that's been missing, that fucking Chibnall didn't get - that the point of him, at the end of the day, is that he's just some guy. Somewhat wiser & tougher than a human, maybe, but still fundamentally just dude with wits & confidence. A trickster, a flawed person trying to do the right thing that through trickery ended up with this fearsome reputation. I used to think of RTD not getting it as much as Moffat did cause he did like overly savior-archetype-like plots sometimes whereas moffat emphasized the 'just a madman with a box' angle, but RTD gets it in this scene where we see the Doctor cringing at his past self for things he couldn't have foreseen & now he doesn't know what to do in a world that doesn't follow predictable rules
Because that's what they don't tell you about getting smarter, wiser or even just older - the price you pay for knowing better today is cringing at the awareness you used to lack. thats very real. you end up thinking you should somehow have known or done better even if you couldnt have.
there's certainly some thematic rhyming with the 'narrowmindedness-plague' afflicting the earth
Donna's dad is actually right. Good for him to be wary of the Hot Hand fallacy and its ilk. Missed a chance for an epic nerd reference
I dunno what to think about the concept of 'shift to fantasy', i wouldnt have done that & really turned more to harder & concept fanfiction, but i suppose it keeps thinks fresh without being repetitive (they cant keep destroying and un-destroying gallifrey all the time...) & the show has always been the very softest of sci-fi anyway - at leasts its set up in a way that it can be reset again or let future writers pick whatever they want. though i suppose it depends on how its done like, if possible without wholly throwing out humanist values. You can absolutely be a trickster in a fantasy story or fight crazy things with logic; Infinity train did it to great effect. I mean, the classics had far wonkier stuff like actual Vampires & whatnot.
i appreciate Donna rhyming while defeating the puppet
"jingsaw out of your history" thing imply that the timeless child thing was an in-universe retcon of sorts? Oh please. I mean I could kinda sorta accept 13 is she literally wasn't really the same character.
between this & the last episode it's pretty close anyway to the "every single backstory is true because of timey wimey ball" thing from the expanded universe fixed, on-screen canon. That I could live with. It's potentially deeply interesting that by virtue of getting tangled up in all the timelines the Doctor has in some ways been to many possible futures & possible versions of reality.
Former companions werent affected by the giggle thing cause it was a retroactive change made by the toymaker upon getting free
It's kinda sad that we'll never get to see the battle between the Master and the Toymaker because that must really have been something. Like two Jokers or Phantoms of the Opera fighting.
this is like when Q showed up on the bridge of the enterprise. Only much deadlier. I appreciate that the scene never stops feeling actually menacing.
I like how Mel also comes in to hold his hand, too, she's for realsies. (I guess this is how she makes up for making him drink all that carrot juice)
The "Alons-y" is a niftly little contrast/ bookend with 10s exit
My headcanon is that bi-generation absolutely WAS a myth, but that this is an extension of the whole breach in the logic/edge of reality storyarc being set up here, or really just the Toymaker thinking it would be fun to double them infinitely
I like how the Doctor mocks the Toymaker's fake accent with 'the ball' thing
The advantage with the ball game is, of course, that Fifteen has already seen it. He's fabulous alright.
I appreciate how they climb on each other at some point
I don't envy Kate, watching this absurd thing... humanity already got somewhat good at taking Sci-Fi threats on their own, but this they don't have context for. Maybe UNIT is gonna need a vault of magical artifacts now. I suppose you can play with that for a few seasons. Like how a contrast of fantasy & sci-fi elements worked in Madoka.
I like how Donna is casually putting her arm around 15
I guess 15 has reached that point where rather than cringe at your younger self you're able to have compassion. That's a good arc, actually.
aaand of course there's the obligatory sequel hook for the Master's return, to the surprise of no one
I like how the years with the lost memory weren't completely lost but Donna still learned something from them that allows her to send this message now
Soo Fifteen is basically taking advantage of the cartoon logic still being in effect until the end of the episode to duplicate the TARDIS. I bet it only worked because he picked the silliest possible hammer.
I appreciate how 15 makes sure to get one last Donna hug.
I do like that it kinda came down to self-love, self-compassion & knowing when to take a restorative break & all that. That's an important message these days.
So, the Nobles just deadass adopted the Doctor & Mel. Makes all the sense.
I always thought of Mel & the Doctor's dynamic as sibling-like (as opposed to Peri & the Doctor having a 'tsundere couple' energy & Ace who of course had a teacher/student thing), so I feel vindicated.
Also I appreciate how an older woman who didn't have kids but spent her life traveling & adventuring & doing what she wanted, & then ended up feeling a bit lonely because of it here simply ends up not lonely by finding friends / found family. Cause that's the fucking annoying gotcha they always hurl at you "Oh if you don't have kids & live the life you want you'll be lonely!" As if you can't have friends. Also, plenty of ppl who do have kids wind up lonely because the kids end up hating them.
I'm all for the Doctor catching a break. Very touching, honestly. & he's like actually a point where he wouldn't just run off & get side-tracked or brood on the inevitability of its end. (like he would have when spent those years with River)
Also sets an interesting background for 15 of course, as he'll be coming out of it 'fully rested', in a sense.
So, yeah, I do think I'm looking forward to what 15 will get up to. It was sort of a great way to introduce him in such a way that ppl will instantly like him for how he comforts his past self here.
It's also probably the ideal ending for Donna, cause, much like Rose & Clara she wanted to stay forever, & maybe now that she has a daughter & other responsibilities she won't want the big danger all the time, but the Unit Job & living with the Doctor in a house? That's prolly what she would have wanted.
(I wonder if they'll end up running into Martha & Mickey at her job, since Donna & Martha were buds that time they met. )

At the risk of sounding egotistical, I just had what strikes me as a relatively small but still pretty poggers, perhaps even galaxy brain rwby idea:
Oscar now being Ruby's one actual pre-existing friend, an underclassmen from Signal, so that there's actually someone she's talking about when she brings up Signal friends early on, and so that we get some idea of who Oscar is and why he matters without Ozpin inside of him.
He hardly even needs to literally show up at first, just have Ruby writing and calling him periodically, especially when she needs advice and wants someone more level-headed than Yang to chime in.
Establishing that even though he's younger than Ruby, Ruby still thinks of him as responsible, down-to-earth, and wise beyond his years, drawing an early comparison between him and Ozpin.
(Especially funny if you don't reveal him beyond his writing for a bit, and Ruby's regard for him builds up an expectation in you that he's her wise senpai, or perhaps some sort of teacher's aide she was on good terms with... And then reveal this person who is apparently so smart and insightful and helpful to her is fucking 13.)
On his end though, this is largely because he just has a big case of Forced To Grow Up Too Fastitis, because he's only lived in Patch since he was 10, before that living in the canonical farm with his aunt AND his actual, still-living parents before an attack not by Grimm, but bandits. (Which then CAUSED a followup Grimm attack due to the commotion, but still.)
Leading to him and his aunt being the only survivors and fleeing to stay with a different relative in Patch. Except his relative lowkey kinda thinks he and his aunt are a burden, and his aunt's grief has made her emotionally unavailable and somewhat neglectful, and so Oscar's new home life.... kinda fuckin sucks tbh!!!!
So now you've got this sullen, grieving boy who doesn't want to deal with other people, wanders off into the woods alone, and nearly becomes Grimm chow (with an uncomfortable implication that this wasn't quite an accident and he sort of had a death wish).
But Ruby happens to be out there because she ALSO likes running off to be alone sometimes (and also sometimes she likes to secretly run experiments with the kinds of weapons tests so risky that neither Signal or her father ever actually approved of them)
So she saves Oscar and his eyes go from dull and lifeless to big and sparkly as he pretty much just kinda. Metaphorically stuffs Ruby (and the whole ideal of Hunting she now represents to him) into the gaping hole in his heart and makes it basically his purpose in life to be like her (his idealized version of her) now. (He is soooo normal and mentally healthy. This is such a normal and mentally healthy thing to do. Please believe him.)
The specific fact that his main tragedy was really caused by bandits is something I did because I also wanted him to develop trust issues (Oh would you look at that, Ozpin parallel again), and also to like. More quickly and strongly establish that bandits are like. A tangible and threatening phenomenon in their world that harms people the viewer actually cares about, rather than just relying on a sudden plot with Weiss being kidnapped for that.
So Oscar kind of has to balance his having seen the worst in people and his underlying misanthropy with "I don't want anyone to suffer like I did" and his desire to be a True Hunter, which in his mind should involve Loving And Protecting Everybody.
And then in v3 he actually like shows up in the present day, having Absolutely Fucking Not been content to watch the Vytal Festival from home if Ruby would Actually Be There
Which is all well and good and Ruby is glad to see him and he seems like kinda just a fun little guy to have around, but then Shit Goes Down and Oscar, full of a Perfect Cocktail of Survivor's Guilt, Hero Complex, and The Need To Impress Senpai, goes "DON'T WORRY. I CAN HELP."
Ruby, eyes going cartoonishly huge and popping out of her skull: DO NOT!!!!
Which he fortunately disobeys, giving him time to show off his own self-made weapon and his fighting style and his other little quirks, and luckily he actually does manage to be decently helpful!
But then he eats shit and gets in trouble so uh. Not yay.
Also not to be an edgelord but I feel like it could be interesting here if Oscar specifically eats shit because of Roman... And then...
It REALLY IS Ruby's fault Roman dies?
Like it is still kind of an accident, he has Oscar in a chokehold and Ruby really just wants him to let go, but he gets cocky, does a villain monologue, lets his guard down, forgets just *how* super Ruby's super speed can really be when you piss her off, and-
She pulls a flawless *teleports behind you* and then, she just swings her scythe as fast as she can in a single-minded adrenaline-and-Semblance-fueled fugue state, and because his guard is down, uh,
OOPS.
So then Ruby and Oscar gotta unpack all this at some point, but NOT NOW, cause Oscar passes out from injury, shock, and exhaustion, and the next time he wakes up, our good ol' Ozzed Pin is in his head now.
Also I like the other edgy idea I have where this Oscar got a Semblance, only for it to turn out that when Ozpin gets into your head, he involuntarily "eats" your Semblance, and/or part of your Aura, to help stabilize and restore his own soul, because dying and transferring hosts is a traumatic process that causes him to accrue spiritual/metaphysical "damage" and "wear" over time. As not every host can offer enough to fully offset the wear, this is another reason why his magic keeps weakening over time.
Basically just to make it more immediately and obviously a serious and uncomfortable conflict to be emotionally invested in. (And to be something to contribute to stoking the fires of a more believable anti-Ozpin uproar from the other characters, who wouldn't immediately know or all initially believe that Ozpin doesn't absorb part of your power on purpose, and literally can't give it back.)

AU lore dump!
In this AU, grim walkers are kinda like a Alterhuman/wolfwalker/werewolf mix. After Hollow Mind ,Hunter runs off into the woods,(goes on all fours!) (edit: he trips like the idiot he is, and shifts then.) and shifts into his wolf form, (which I have dubbed Phantom, hence the name of the AU) and instead of going to hexside, he finds a cave  where he hides out for a while (4/5 weeks), stealing food and blankets, and transforming the cave into his den
While this is happening luz is freaking out,due to no one having glimpsed hunter in weeks. And on top of that, there is a strange wolf( in this AU, Wild Canines are from the demon realm,so not that weird) haunting (see what I did there?) the streets, stealing food and other things. She things it looks familiar, but she cannot place her finger on in. Phantom becomes a celebrity, and befriends luz (I sort of call Phantom and Hunter to separate entities, even tho they’re the same person, System style) then Hunter builds up confidence to reappear, and starts making small appearances, like a ghost (Hahah. maybe one of them should be a bus disappearance thingy) and luz is less scared that he got caught. Finally, hunter appears on the owl houses door step, and gets melded with the owl fam. The time frame for this part of it is 1-2 months. To make it less suspicious that right when he vanished that phantom appeared, and vice versa, he sneaks out at night and makes appearances, and sometimes during the day. He lies that he “is just a fan” of phantom (kinda selfish bro)( to be extra sneaky, he draws phantom [he’s good at drawing] and fakes being a bad lier.) and keeps tabs on his image. Luz starts to get suspicious(“he says he is a fan of phantom, and phantom is a friendly boy, but Hunter never is to bet found when phantom is around and vice versa. Also, phantom appeared right after he went missing, and Hunter never talks about were he was/is during is absence. Also. Fangs, he is crepuscular, he is very defensive of his stuff/friends,his eyes glow, he has strange abilities , he is mostly carnivorous, his hair grows fast, also, they two look smiliar.they have to be the same person!”) and tries to prove her suspicions. This doesn’t go well.
Orrrrrrrr they (hexsquad- hunter) get kidnapped and Hunter saves them using his wolfie powers, but then has to explain why he has them. Only Luz knows till human realm. They are stuck there for a year.
Canon deviations
day of bs is in 10-11 months
Hexsquad is in HR for a year
Labyrinth runners is changed and later
Hunter has enhanced abilities after the first shift
Edge of the world is FAR later than canon
Wild Canines(coyotes, wolves, foxes, hyenas, exc) are from the BI
My HC of him being coy-wolf coping link is changed (wolf therian, both psychologically and spiritually)
Hunter lives with the owl fam after the first part.
Luz is otter-link
Amity is cat-hearted
Lumity is a4a (alterhuman 4 alterhuman)
Belos  is not actively after the owl fam. Also he does not quite learn Hunter has unlocked his wolf form until abt a month or two before the day of unity
Luz still knows that hunter is a grimwalker, but doesn’t know what it is, and there isn’t anything really on them.(she also forgets Abt it cause she’s bad at remembering stuff){as we see in canon}
Hunter goes to hexside, but besides the EEs, no one knows that he was the gg. (IT RHYMES)(He takes the potion track[most fanfics],Beast-keeping[wolfyness] and bard[vocal mess of wolves]bump allows him to use flapjack as an aid.)
   Notes
Hunters style is alterhuman grunge .
Flapjack knew most of the previous Golden Guards. HE DOES NOT CUT HIS HAIR IT LOOKS DUMB. Luz and the hex squad are suffering from adrien agrest syndrome( means they are oblivious) hunter uses he/it/they pronouns.( “hunter here with he/it pronouns and a wish to he/it [hit] Belos”) when hunter has been in his witch form for too long, his chest starts to ache/hurt, and he can be annoyed easier. he has three different forms, witch( canon, but with fluffy hair that looks like a mix of his hair and the hair eda had when she first meet king, sharper and longer teeth, what could be classified as claws, a stronger that the “normal” of smell; sight; bite force, can jump higher, is supernaturally fast and agile ,at least by non-magically enhanced standards, especially high stamina and a alter human grudge style), semi witch ( wolf form teeth, kinda claws, harpy eda hair, wolf form ears and tail, extra sharp smell; eye-site; strong bite force and can jump really freaking high, and is fast, agile, and durable ) and wolf (literally a wolf hunter with enhanced wolf abilities) Hunter has more self-esteem than canon. He’s still kinda a bad boy.
Extra
possible AU Of this AU where Hunter unlocked his wolf form at about 4-5 ish. Belos has used in as an Attack/guard dog. hunters wolf form has a cream collar with a gold emperors coven sigil as the tag, gold cuff thingys on his paws, sharpening his claws. Belos  told him it was a curse, and gives him a tonic to “keep the wolf under control” (this is obviously a lie, this is a domestication potion which is used in feral animals, basically making hunter way more submissive, laid back[when applicable, it sometimes makes him far more aggressive] and more dog like than canon)two variations are possible : Luz knows, changing the plot drastically, and Luz is oblivious, having little to no effect on plot.
great huh!?

Now that Robin: Tim Drake has been done for awhile, what are your thoughts on it? Parts you enjoyed most? Least favorite things?
Overall I enjoyed it. It's not the greatest comic I've ever read or anything but I did like it, and I feel sad looking back on it because I wish it'd gotten more time. I wish more people had given it a shot rather than dismissing it just because they didn't like the artist for the first arc.
There's a lot of things I enjoyed about it. I think the marina made for a unique setting and the people who lived there were all interesting characters. I liked the fact that the development of that setting and those people highlighted the way Tim almost instinctively looks out for and cares about the people around him, making a point to get to know all of his neighbors personally.
I liked how the first arc honed in on Tim not just being a detective but a detective fanboy, bringing back his canon love of Sherlock Holmes and filling it out with other classic detective fiction. Moriarty himself was a little meh but the idea of his character as Tim's dark mirror, an obsessive fan of the detective narrative who treats other people like pieces in his game or dolls to be molded to his whim and is obsessed with finding a detective to match his villainous "brilliance" -- that's a solid concept.
I also liked the supporting cast. Bernard of course was great, I do actually enjoy his relationship with Tim and I think his development was interesting. They got some great romantic moments too, particularly after the artist switch, and I really like the fact that he figured out Tim was Robin on his own -- it makes total sense given his Bat-conspiracy focus and, to me, is almost certainly a big part of why Tim likes him.
But I also really liked Detective Williams and Sparrow, who I hope don't get completely shelved. Gotham can always use a few more good cops kicking around and I kinda like that some of the We Are Robin kids like Darcy and Izzy are still hanging around as a step between the Bats and the civilians. Plus it was good to give TIm someone to bounce off of that didn't have all the baggage that comes with the other Bats.
I would've liked to see a full version of the second Chaos Monsters story, it's a shame that got cut short.
My least favorite part was the marketing. I don't know who it was that decided to lean into stuff like, "Move over Damian, the world's favorite Robin is back!" but it was just... embarrassing and unnecessary and completely against the tone of the story and just, ugh. That sucked.
I also was not a fan of the idea that Tim, quote, "Wanted to be like [his] dad," with that Dad here meaning Jack, but that was a minor thing. Meghan Fitzmartin is well-meaning and seems very sweet but she's also sometimes just, painfully straight.
Still overall I liked the book. It's not what I would give people if I wanted to give them an introduction to Tim or even just catch them up on his modern incarnation -- I'd sooner start with the Urban Legends story and then point them straight to Zdarsky's Batman -- but it was ultimately fine. Had potential, shame it wasn't allowed to reach it.

hey! i love your posts, particularly battinson ones. i was curious about your shifting experience, maybe you could tell a little more about that? you mentioned building batmobile with bruce, so i’m just going to assume it was pre-canon. if so, how was it like to live through movies events? what about selina? maybe more battinson hcs in general? (please more battinson headcanons) please share literally anything you’re comfortable sharing.i hope i’m not overstepping. best wishes! <3
AHHH I GOT YOU YOURE FINE-
mkay i’ve really got to start posting more- im thinking about a battinson ✨series✨ anyways i’ll tell you the deets.
so basically i script out the stuff i’d like so yes building the batmobile was pre canon, i knew we’d do that it was just a skill i’d built into how i wanted to shift. honestly i’m here to say that shifting is probably intense lucid dreaming. like there’s lucid dreaming and then shifting. it’s very fun. i’d say it’s like going under anesthesia kind of sleep is how it is when i hard core lucid dream shift kinda deal. like it’s a fall asleep BAM you’re dead asleep BAM you just suddenly wake up. there’s no slowly waking up. and then BAM you’re asleep again.
selena and I are besties. I scripted that she and Bruce have no attraction other than we’re all besties. we work together in kicking falcone’s butt and go to museums and jewelry shopping. btw she’s a coffee girl.
i like to script which events happen. mainly through fanfic and things like that. some things are like the comics, wattpad, tumblr, the batman movie… it just depends. the riddler thing was… interesting. he’s definitely a real perv and not my kinda guy. tho he did not kill falcone cause falcone is just too interesting of a character. falcone instead had a body double that he uses and instead was off away from Gotham in NYC. i just make adjustments as i like and go with the flow.
more about the batmobile- i’m studying engineering. always loved science, always loved mechanics and building. i’ve got some preconceived knowledge and ideas on car mechanics and things like that, however, i don’t see someone not being able to do something like that because they don’t have prior experience.
i really do enjoy the shifting- it’s really like lucid dreaming on steroids i think. while there’s no alternative reality that you’re slipping away to, it’s training your mind to be comfortable in deep dreaming and slumber and taking control of your dreams. it’s meditative and fun to do when you’re not abusing it a ton. i really recommend to those who think they’d like it.

Good god I only just noticed Raphielle is R2NinjaTurtle holy shit that’s disappointing…they were so talented. I knew of them on deviantart back when they were drawing an Osmosis Jones fan-comic called Heartburn. ( https://m.webtoons.com/en/canvas/heart-burn/list?title_no=349362 )
It featured a fan-character Scarlette, who was a cell, and she got turned into a virus by the canon-character Thrax.
I was reading it because I loved the art style, it was really well drawn—but then the relationship between Scarlette and Thrax started to feel kinda…weird…like dubious consent type of stuff, “abuser is actually good/kind to victim—yet still give or take from victim on their terms” type shit. Scarlette was turned into a virus by Thrax against her will, had to abandon her home and live on-the-run with Thrax (who is basically a stranger to her), and—get this—needs to have s*x with Thrax in order to “stay warm (stay alive)” unsurprisingly she does not feel 100% comfortable or safe with the s*x.
I stopped reading because while it was an interesting dynamic at first Scarlette and Thrax’s relationship just seemed to get worse both in toxicity and writing. It went beyond interesting power/abuse dynamic and into “the way these characters are acting just doesn’t make sense and this is actively becoming not just less interesting but less comfortable to read.” But that’s just me, others might’ve related/enjoyed it and/or it might’ve gotten better if I’d kept reading.
In retrospect Raphielle is of course showing the same interest in weird sussy relationship dynamics, but now the focus is Angel Dust and Valentino. Although I don’t think Raphielle was so outwardly sexual/aggressive towards others back then…but maybe I just didn’t notice.
Oh, dude...you don't have to tell me. I adored Heartburn. Best goddamn Osmosis Jones webcomic there is (including my own, which exists only in my head), and as far as I'm concerned, still the only one worth reading.
Couple of misconceptions I want to clear up about Scarlette and Thrax's relationship in Heartburn, because it was the kind of complicated relationship Vivzie wishes she could write. Scarlette and Thrax's relationship was never presented as healthy...fun, exciting, occasionally tender. But it never forgot how young she was, that he turned her into a virus without her knowing what would happen, how fucked up it all was. The entire comic is colored by the fact that it's a prequel, and that their relationship -- and ultimately, Thrax -- are doomed.
(She also didn't need to have sex with him. In Heartburn, Red Deaths constantly feel cold, but there are a couple of ways they can warm up other than sex. Scarlette keeps having sex with Thrax because it's an easy way to feel warm, but mostly because their sexual chemistry is hot enough to literally burn down buildings.)
I've never minded that Raphielle thought Angel/Valentino was interesting, compelling, even a horrific kind of sexy. The idea that there was something magnetic that drew Angel to Valentino, that they might have had fun for a while, and then by the time Angel realized the truth he was trapped...there's a tragic story there, one that happens in real life. I liked it because unlike Blitzo/Stolas, it wasn't meant to be cute, and we were meant to root for Angel to get away.
I do mind Raphielle making sexually aggressive remarks at kids. I mind what they've become. As someone who respected the hell out of their writing, that's very sad to see.

002 | Give me a character & I will tell you: Spock
I also got this from an anon so I'm assuming everyone's like we know how she feels about McKirk, what about Spock?? 😂
How I feel about this character: Okay, so… it is not the character, it is the fanbase. Spock is awesome! All three actors do an absolutely fantastic job! But the fanbase is kind of… too much for me. I'm not speaking so much about the intense love for him as I am talking about projecting things onto him that have very little to do with the writers' initial intent and then getting angry when canonical portrayals don't match up. Like, people will absolutely INSIST that Spock is gay and then get angry when he's paired with women in new incarnations, despite the fact that (a) bisexual+ people exist, so him being with a woman does not automatically make him straight, and (b) Spock was never intended to be anything but heterosexual anyway. I won't deny that SNW in particular has made some choices where I understand the frustration--I absolutely understand why Jewish fans are upset by the bacon scene--but I think the preciousness over Spock and his fanon is what puts people like me off him a bit. He's a great character, excellently portrayed, but I could really do without the people who can't recognize where their fanon ends and canon begins.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: I understand the love for Spirk! But of the triumvirate and its satellite ships, it's kind of the least interesting to me. I like how Spock/Uhura works as a companion ship to McKirk! And I think SNW is doing really cool stuff with Spock/Christine and the idea that a young Spock would explore emotionality that way (especially after seeing his parents' marriage).
My non-romantic OTP for this character: The triumvirate, of course! Particularly in Star Trek V, I love the warmth and camaraderie of the camping scenes. I also really love his familial dynamics with Amanda and Michael (Sarek is… complicated…), and when it comes to Pike, the SNW S1 finale actually made me cry with how it portrayed their relationship and its impact on both of them.
My unpopular opinion about this character: I kinda accidentally got into that earlier, didn't I. Oops. I think something that strikes me about Spock and how I relate to fanon is I actually see him more as aro/ace, but I understand how complicated that gets as a headcanon because it might imply that aro/ace people are unemotional, etc. I sort of see him as a keen observer of relationship dynamics (in McKirk fics, I always appreciate a Spock who understands they're romantically involved but keeps quiet out of discretion), but someone who doesn't necessarily desire a romantic relationship for himself.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I totally understand why the subsequent AOS movies past the first one used him sparingly--having him in the first movie at all is a base to bridge the universes on--but I would find more knowledge of what Spock did to rebuild Vulcan society and how he adjusted to a new universe fascinating!
my OTP: Secondary to McKirk, I really do see the appeal of Spones! I think they're an awesome ship and I want to write more for their dynamic (thus far I've written a friendship fic I'm still really proud of). I love both the silly memes people make about them as well as the serious meta people do about why these characters work as a pairing and their relationship to each other.
my cross over ship: I don't think about crossover ships that much! Although now that I'm thinking about it, I would find him having some sort of relationship with Garak fascinating. Garak lies and eludes constantly, and Spock is held to not lie but actually does, and I think they could play off each other in an interesting way. Plus Garak is so lively and jovial whereas Spock is more serious but also has a dry wit I think Garak would love.
a headcanon fact: In my fic I linked above, I tried to build more on the idea of Spock having a dyslexia-like condition that Discovery established. I thought it was pretty cool that Discovery gave a character who's well-known for his intellect a learning disability! I like the idea that it gives him a lot of empathy for those in similar situations and that he's able to use his past struggles to help those on ship crews or in academic settings who need it.

Dorothea MoonWater/Moonseeker Mugle AU:
“Hey, Dorothea, do you ever stop and think about me?
When we were younger, down in the park.
Honey, making a lark of the misery”
I was listening to Dorothea by Mrs. Swift the other day and suddenly this AU idea was born:
Walburga was once a famous actress that had fallen under obscurity and wanted her children to pursue a career in the model/movie industry. So, she decided to raise them in a restrictive way since birth. Sirius obviously couldn’t handle that treatment so he left after sometime but Regulus stayed with their mother (kinda similar to canon).
Our lover boys had their first real interaction under the bleachers, Regulus was thinking about showing support to his brother during a game but decided to back off in the last second and Remus was never the biggest fan of crowds so he decided to follow his brother’s friend to see what was going on. Two introverts sharing an awkward moment but that doesn’t necessarily felt bad in their personal opinion, something has changed that day.
Those two become friends and closer after some other experiences and meetings, bonding over academic stuff, books, weird tv shows, love for cats. Their relationship grows in a good slow-paced way until both of them were aware of their own love feelings. Remus decided to confess first expecting the worst (he’s so oblivious sometimes) but it was Regulus who had initiative for their first kiss. Due living in quite a small town they had to be really careful, specially about Black’s mom, her sons not being straight would never be something okay for Walburga considering she believed and planned for the future, Regulus sadly never had the courage to talk about that to anyone besides his closest friends and Remus.
Their love create a cute love bubble but soon Remus slowly start to notice how much pressure is put over his boyfriend shoulders, everything revolving around him being the perfect boy to please his mother wishes. One day, after Regulus prom has passed, they were discussing about the future, their relationship and career plans. It doesn’t ends well, they get into a big fight and after that happened they stop talking to each other with Walburga deciding to move to a big city to focus on her son’s career as a future celebrity.
“I love performing, i love acting, the atmosphere, all the praise and applauses. It’s been like that for such a long time, just because I talked to you about some minor insecurities it doesn’t mean that wouldn’t be a good future for me.”
“Of course not, I know you had a lot of good moments and how much talented you’re, I was sitting in the front row of that play last month remember Love? You know I’ll always support your decisions, don’t you Reggie? I just want you to think if they’re truly yours! I want you to be the happiest and content possible, that you’re doing it for you, not for her but for you own good…”
Some time is passed, Regulus really become famous showing up on tv and commercials, his face is all over magazines and outdoors, now living in a big city and never coming back his hometown. However, miles away from there, in a old small town, everything they did, the time spend together, all the love and memories their shared still is so vivid in Remus mind. Even after all the years passed without communication, Lupin still remembers how they would be going for hours just talking about their favorite books, favorite nerdy tv shows, their kisses and secret dates…
As for Regulus? He tells himself how much lucky he’s, how he’s living ✨the dream✨daily. But sometimes, when his deep thoughts starts bubbling into his mind, Black thinks about missing every day that one person who truly got him, the one who saw behind his facades and fake smiles (but that’s talk for some other time)
(Was it at least decent? That’s my first AU idea so sorry if it sucks haha)

hi hi ner!! 👻💕🎨 for the ask game !!
Aaa Ian here you are again coming in with the questions that I really have to think about (it’s fine don’t worry but oof these aren’t easy ones for me to answer).
👻 What is your wildest headcanon?
I mean all my opinions are factually correct so… Jk, jk. Kind of a tricky question, tho 🤔
I know I’ve said this before but I kinda never know when character / canon interpretation or interpolation crosses over into headcanon territory. Plus I generally do try to be pretty canon-compliant and base my interpretations on that.
Basically, for all those folks making headcanon lists and stuff, my brain just does not work that way and not sure I'd ever be able to produce one of my own.
Hmm…
Honestly, I’m totally drawing a blank here, sorry 😔 I guess if I’ll ever throw something wild into a fic, you’ll find out?
Only thoughts I can even kinda grasp rn are nsfw and uhhh some of those are definitely more personal wish fulfillment than actual headcanons.
💕 What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?
Aaa how can I even choose.
I mean also a big chunk of it is smut and a lot of it isn’t widely available (and I probably can’t remember the existence of half of it off the top of my head), so…
I suppose in some sense Of Cows and Curses and Consequences (Hatsuharu x reader, Fruits Basket) is my magnum opus, at least as far as longfic and plotting is concerned. Yes, it is very unfinished and I haven’t touched it in ages, but I worked so properly on that one, outlining my chapters and the story (like, I’ve got notes like 10 chapters ahead of what’s been published), which makes it stand out. Plus it was one of the first if not the first fic I ever wrote (if we don’t count the beginnings of a young teenager self-insert for Earth’s Children that never made it past couple hand-written pages). So yeah, a bit of a “go big or go home” start to my fic writing journey. 😅
Also whatever was the first fic I wrote with a friend’s tastes specifically in mind. Always love it when I can get someone right in the feels (definitely a big reason for why I write in the first place, but that’s a story for another time before I get even more off-track).
Honestly there’s so many pieces I could consider notable for being a first in something or otherwise meaningful but I really can’t pick just one.
🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
Oh boy so many Jamil scenes coming to mind. Fixation would have so many tasty bits (some of them even sfw, oop), some whump for the Kali & Shiva analogy thoughts (it could be so cool even if it also would hurt me so bad 😭), Jamil’s first realization moment (or any flustered bit, really) from How Not to Be Swept Under… All of them would be lovely ngl.
Though honestly, if anyone ever were to make anything (draw, write, whatever) inspired by my works, I would probably just combust and live off the high for a week (or a few).
I’m afraid my answers for these ones are kinda rambly and not super definitive but alas, it is what it is. Can’t pick just one for many of these. Still, ty for the questions Ian! I hope my answers weren't too disappointing.
(ask game here for anyone else curious)
