The Ultimate Vriska Showdown

Hi, everyone! After a few delays, here is the final bracket for my Vriska poll! This poll asks for the "most iconic Vriska." What "iconic" means is up to the individual voter.

If you didn't see the nomination post, a Vriska-archetype character is defined as follows:

To encourage a greater variety of characters, I changed requirement 4 to "queer" instead of strictly "attracted to women." I also allowed characters who didn't fill either requirements 1 or 4 to be in the poll, as those requirements were less important in defining a "Vriska" than requirements 2, 3, and 4.

The first round will be up on February 21st at 8 AM PST. I'll be making a separate post with all the links to polls to not clutter up this one. The links to the masterpost for each round are listed below, and will be updated throughout the poll.

The first four rounds will last for 24 hours, with a 24 hour gap between for me to prepare for the next round. The final round will last for one week to build suspense and whatnot. I'll be tagging everything with "#vriska poll" so people can still find the polls if I get delayed in linking everything. (Please bear with me - I'm a student)

This is an elaborate shitpost on my end, so I hope that everyone treats it as such. I'm always down for some funny arguing, but this tournament isn't intended to invite harassment to me or anyone who likes/dislikes the characters, franchises, or creators involved. There's a disclaimer under the readmore that goes into more detail.

Disclaimer on the poll:

I, the creator of this poll, haven't interacted with about a third of the franchises listed in the roster. What I know about the characters, franchises, and the creators are from Tumblr osmosis or what the people who nominated the characters told me.

While the characters being controversial is part of the poll, I am aware there is controversy surrounding some franchises or creators, a lot of which I probably don't know about. Including these characters in the poll despite this is not an endorsement or condemnation of the franchises of creators.

I will try not to participate in any discourse that pops up about the characters in the polls themselves, though i may occasionally post about it using the "#vriska poll" tag. However, I will be keeping an eye on the notes to make sure no one is being bigoted or threatening. Anyone who says something openly bigoted or seriously threatens someone else will have that reply removed and be blocked.

If I see someone with a hilariously bad take, I will be screenshotting it. If I have enough screenshots by the end of the poll, I'll be putting together a compilation as a grand finale. I'll edit out the usernames on the comments for privacy. The exception to this is the aforementioned bigotry or threats. If I see something like that which would otherwise be good for the compilation, I'll screenshot it and block the user. The comment will not have the username edited out.

TL:DR: I don't openly endorse or condemn any of the creators or franchises on this poll. This is entirely for fun. I'll be making fun of the people clowning in the notes so if you're going to say something, make sure it's something you're okay with going on my cringe comp. Peace out.

This is what a community looks like.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.

If you want more of something, reblog it.

there is never too much art. there is never "everyone depicts this scene/character so if I depict it, it won't add anything" yes it will. no two people will do the exact same piece of art even with the same prompt. so paint or draw or sketch or write your favorite character or scene from your favorite movie or TV show. there will always be someone who wants more of your art and more of what you have made and there is never too much art
