A guilt so all encompassing it brings him to his knees at Rengokus feet. He is reduced to a groveling mess because this voice over his shoulder is lovingly whispering that he can be better and he can't understand why he wants to listen! And all the while Rengokus own heart is torn between inciting justice and sparing a bit of mercy to a situation thats so disgustingly fascinating that he can't look away..

invidia x j2: god i think j2 freaks invidia out so bad. this is a version of jace that lives and dies at the behest of porter cliffbreaker, and like, she's a romantic! she's happy jace found someone! but she takes one look at what j2 and porter have and is like oh that's not love. that's something else and it's frightening

invidia x j3: now j3 invidia would absolutely get along with. this is closer to the jace she knows, i.e. huge slut who's always in some drama. but also like, they used to joke about how jace was so conceited he'd fuck himself and hey, look, this one actually IS! and she says this to j3 thinking j3 would also find it funny but uh. he doesn't. at all.

invidia x j4: this is SO MESSYYYYY j4 makes invidia question if she even knows jace at all. like she asks jace about j4 and doesnt get a straight answer, more of a "oh just ignore that one, it's a failed experiment" and then she like, actually talks to j4 and realizes that j4 is like. much more true to the bitter, angry version of jace trapped in elmville that she missed out on when she was out with the rest of the party.

aurora x j2: WEIRD FUNDIES UNITE!!! j2 and aurora don't agree on much but they do agree that your relationship with your god is very very important, as is proselytizing about it and getting as many people into your faith as possible. and that your happiness comes second to this, always. aurora doesnt even clock that j2's brain is cooked she's like "oh wait... a version of jace that's tolerable? that's kind of... like me?? i didnt know he had it in him!"

aurora x j3: oh she hates his ass so much. how did jace make himself more of an annoying whore. and why does he dress like that.

aurora x j4: she hates j4 MARGINALLY less than she hates j3. like her issues with j3 are straight up her issues with jace and she doesn't like jace at all. her issues with j4 are new and different and she cant really process that? like j4 is so... insistent on making her issues with everything known. and aurora is like "you know, your life would be a lot easier if you just did what was expected of you. suck it up." and does not analyze that statement in regards to her own life.

peregrine x j2: god. peregrine wants this version of jace SO BADLY. sweet and pliant and always willing to tell him he's so strong and brave. loyal to a fault, practically no desires outside of what his beloved wants. unfortunately j2 is so porter-pilled that even though he has all of jace's memories of peregrine he's not interested at all. which of course means:

peregrine x j3: not to make j3 another shitty guy's consolation prize in lieu of j2 (who is himself a consolation prize in lieu of jace) but like. if peregrine can't have the idealized version of jace he'll take the easy one. the warm, jace-shaped body. and he's not interrogating j3's interiority at all bc nobody except him has internal struggles, of course.

peregrine x j4: she scares him so badly. like this to him is the real dark mirror of jace. all of them are dark mirrors in their own way but this one is the one who is resentful. angry. willing to lash out. call him on his bullshit, tell him he fucked up to his face. in a way though it's kind of a relief bc it just confirms all the horrible things he thinks about himself.

ysvelde x j2: awww theyre besties!! they both live for the approval of others and are willing to change themselves to get it, they get on like a house on fire!! ysvelde thinks he's ADORABLE too. ysvelde also sees some. terrible terrible parallels between how her mom treats her and how jace treats j2. and resolves to not interrogate that because she values her friendship w jace <3

ysvelde x j3: ALSO besties but in a very different way!! theyre not having deep emotional conversations, theyre going OUT!! ysvelde's missed having someone who appreciates sneaking away from the rest of the party to find the only decent bar this far away from civilization. and j3 knows all the best spots too!! (she's ignoring how little jace seems to care about j3's safety and doesnt even ask if he has a weapon on him before he goes out).

ysvelde x j4: unfortunately the one clone ysvelde doesnt really Get? like j4 is so sure of who she is. she's so determined to define herself in opposition to jace. and ysvelde like... can't really relate to that. like the idea of not performing constantly, not seeking the approval of someone else, is unfathomable to her.

dagbert x the clones: god poor dagbert. he cannot tell them apart even a little bit. he thinks its VERY cool that jace managed to do this, he's always admired jace's spellcraft on a technical level, but the clones seem to have just as much insane psychosexual drama as jace does and he's not about to entangle himself in it. not when he has a FUCKING JOB. god. do none of these people care about their JOB. his personal life is so divorced from anything any of these people are doing that it's comical. he tries to engage with j3 once because j3's very hot but gets shut down bc j3's busy with peregrine. he approaches j2 but sees him engaged with aurora ENTHUSIASICALLY talking about devotion to god and is like ohhhh gods no i know crazy when i see it. stay away. j4 is his favorite because she's a straight-shooter. and she's the only clone that looks interested when he mentions taking over his father's construction business and they can talk about tools and lumber and brickwork for hours.

well dañarte is a certified Little Bitch, however part of his Thing is that hes pretending to Not be a Little Bitch, so i think it's all based on the circumstance of who is around and all that. if it's in public, he will probably go the route of pretending that he's above a Petty, childish dispute 😌 but inside he IS planning revenge and also trying to blow them up with his mind. and then if he's not trying to mask his bitch boy powers he's def being snarky and passive aggressive and maybe also just straight up rude right back. he will NOT be the bigger person!!! and he does not care what people think about him.

i think theyre both looking to preserve themselves in a way. i think its all good then they fuck and its like. okay so max is looking to get with someone (in my mind its also an ex, but maybe even danny) and uses george as a crutch despite their little interaction. then george thinks too impulsively and also uses max as a temporary solution. then HE GETS WITH THE GIRLFRIEND AGAIN......then he gets scared and doesn't tell max until its too late. so now he's gotta apologize

(im kind of thinking of imola 2021 where george took full responsibility for the incident w valtteri after reflecting for a bit! he made a bad judgement but fixed it immediately!)

then max resents george (because he got attached) but refuses to talk about it with george. george is willing to take accountability but max knows it'll hurt george even more if he doesn't even engage with that idea. smh my head . the pettiness is unreal. he's literally willing to kill them both if it means he "wins"; that george can never feel comfort in his own relationship again, that george is berated for what max thinks is the wrong decision, and that george will stay with max (even if in a way that is so hateful). love makes people crazy.

Or what a healthy relationship is or anything to do with toxic behaviour because if he knew any red flags and stuff he’d rebel against Belos faster. Information is key in his situation really.

So he doesn’t realize anything he’s doing might be toxic, leading to him having difficulty making friends or keeping them. It really isn’t his fault, but that doesn’t mean he cant do anything about it. So he learns! Once he’s out of the coven of course….

It also means he wouldn’t understand if someone was being toxic to him. And I don’t mean someone shouting “hey punk! Give me your lunch or I’ll hurt you!” Or something like that, he’s sheltered, not daft.

He wouldnt let someone push him around but if someone were to insinuate their friendship isn’t unconditional or were to say “you cant be friends with them.” He’d question it but if they just said “theyre a bad person and theyre mean.” He’d probably listen.

When he gets out of the emperors coven and goes to the human realm I think he’d start to explore himself further. He’s in a much safer place where everything and everyone doesn’t want to kill him, he doesn’t have to keep his guard up as much anymore. But even if he realizes it, it would take him a while to actually get comfortable but when that happens he’d start looking around for hobbies.

Because I think he likes to keep his hands busy he’d probably like knitting, crochet, sewing and perhaps even drawing! Luz’s mother would 100% give him resources as long as he asked. I think she’s just sorta the type to leave you be until you asked or really needed help and stuff

Hunter would get into history and books, I feel like he wouldn’t like fantasy that much because of how different humanities view on the magical and mythical is from his reality. He might get intrigued by a few things though.

So in the coven I feel his emotions were pretty stunted, same with his person but a few things I can get from him is he is very loyal and fiercely protective. It takes quite a bit to get him to leave someone. Speaking of leaving.

This boy has ✨abandonment issues✨ (don’t we all tho? I mean like, you’re here, aren’t you??)

And everything he’s been given is conditional. He even said himself that chances have to be earned. The fear he showed in eclipse lake? Just how irrational he became out of fear of failure? He doesn’t get love for free, he doesn’t get kindness for free, everything is a ploy to gain your favour, everything has an ulterior motive. Just because he isn’t with Belos anymore does not mean any of his trauma magically disappeared.

Because a lot of people are willing to backstab you in the coven (I bet it’s a very “dog eat dog” kind of environment) hunter would have trust issues as well. He’s scared of people leaving him but he’s scared of letting people close.

It’s a steep learning curve for him but eventually he starts to trust others more often and stop being so scared of them leaving.

Another thing I gathered about his personality is that he is very protective, he’s willing to put his life on the life for those he cares about.

Another thing is he can be very patient. When the time calls for it.

He’s also very dedicated and is self-disciplined. If he saw a pile of dirty dishes or his room was messy he’d go “I should clean that.” And then he would. He is god tier in being self disciplined.

I believe he can not cook to save his life. Absolutely the worst. It will be burnt and he’d put it in the freezer to try and make it not burnt. He’d try his best and it just wouldn’t work. I’ll bet he does however have a green thumb.

Feels guilty for all the wrong he’s done as the golden guard and everything the golden guard represents so he’d try to make up for it.

He just wants to be a good person and do good things. He wants to make people happy and he wants others to be proud of him. He craves validation and love but he needs to learn how to give it to himself first.

DW it's not a bad question!! :D i would put titles in all the posts but my thought process is that I don't want to praise/share around a book that I'm still reading and then find out later in the story there's something absolutely abhorrent that ruins the whole thing jddhsvn if i share anything of an abhorrent book I wanna be prepared to write warnings so nobody gets blindsided by triggering content when they were expecting something good HAHA

BUT I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE. it's called The Modern Prometheus by Nicole Mello! (more detail under the cut because i rambled)

it's a bit odd at first because it is a modern-day retelling and I'm usually not into those, and it starts off with psychologist Walton (who is for some reason rewritten as a woman?) doing an interview with Victor, who's been arrested for the murders of Elizabeth and Henry. Vic then tells his story which Walton records and transcribes

but once you get past the weird premise, it is VERY emotional and heartfelt and refreshing. I didn't actually cry while reading frankenstein but this book broke me down 😭

merits: it's got diversity that i haven't seen in any other frankenstein books so far. victor is vietnamese and adopted into the black frankenstein family, and eliz is indian. ernest is trans and everyone is extremely accepting and supportive. victor explains struggling with understanding his feelings for henry as he grows up, and how he realized that heteronormativity made him think that he'd fall for someone like liz, but he actually was only ever in love with henry. theyre openly in a relationship and had plans to marry ;v; vic's dad is also completely supportive of them (iirc caroline passed before they started dating)

it's mentioned in just one sentence that caroline briefly entertained the idea that liz and vic might "fall in love or something" but once she saw that they accepted each other as siblings, she dropped the idea, and it's never mentioned again. they're just siblings and extremely close and loving ;-; it's really nice to see them be protective of and caring for each other and still affectionate while knowing it's completely platonic. liz is also very affectionate and loving to henry, again totally platonically, so it's also great to see such a close devoted m/f friendship that has not even hints of romance

i also really like the writing style personally. it's not a pastiche and doesn't use lofty english at all; it's written in a modern, easy-to-digest style while still being very vivid and expressive.

and god the characters, i think, are the most accurate depictions I've seen in an adaptation yet. it's VERY striking. liz is gentle but strong willed and determined, and equally attached to both vic and henry (who she also sees as a brother figure).

henry is described only from victors pov of course, and it'll break ya heart i swear. victor describes him as being his everything, and the most amazing, incredible person, and he's constantly getting sidetracked to go back to henry. but henry has character of his own, and while he is an extremely kind, forgiving man, he doesnt passively accept the awful things victor has done. he loves victor and is loyal to him, but he makes it clear that he isn't happy with what hes done, and in victors isolation he tried to push henry away. he mentions how their relationship was never the same, even though they were still in love, he put a barrier between them :[

and to me this victor is a really good portrayal because he DID do all the wrong he did in canon, but he isn't outright villainized. he's still sympathetic, a guy who messed up horribly, and knows that even though he never intended to hurt anyone, the loss of his family was in large part his fault. he realizes what he's done, but he also knows it's too late to fix it, and he regrets everything so much and doesn't have hope to forgive himself.

he held on long enough to tell his story to Walton because he wanted henrys memory to be recorded :[ and a little detail of the book that I like... there's a dedication page at the front that's something like "For Henry, without whom there would be no life at all" and you're like aw, the author had a henry in her life too and you move on to read, but near the end when victor breaks down over henry in the recording and tells walton how he wants henrys legacy to be preserved, he's like "when you write the book or whatever you're going to do with these transcripts and notes, could you please dedicate it to henry? I'm not a poet but maybe 'for henry, without whom there would be no life at all' or something like that"

and one part in particular that i think (imo) is a nice summary of victors character: (suicide cw) at one point victor has a moment confiding that he desperately wished he could die, because he felt so miserable and guilty and knew the world would be better off without him and if he was dead, the creature would have no reason to keep killing his loved ones—but vic never stopped to think how losing him would devastate the rest of his family, who had gone through so much already and needed him. i just think that's an accurate portrayal of him bc he doesn't want to hurt anyone; he does nothing with intent of harm, and he dearly loves those around him. but he thinks his idea of what to do is the best route for everyone's sake, and he just doesn't really see things from others pov to consider how they might be hurt or heartbroken by his decisions

also briefly touching on creature: the father/son role is really emphasized here. victor does name the creature from the start (adam... which I'm not a fan of personally but, victor did acknowledge that his creation needed a name) and like in canon, was terrified of him when he saw him animated. creature does see himself as an abandoned child, and describes how he at first saw victor as wonderful and craved his love, but once he learned victor had made him repulsive and nobody would love him, creature resented him.

bonus points for portraying creature as neither unaware of his deeds, or just inherently violent. like in canon, he wasn't made for evil, but he kills calculatingly and only with the purpose of hurting victor. victor does attempt to build a female creature, but tears her apart after it hits him that they could procreate (but in this book he remembers how foolish that was, because he could have just left out her reproductive organs, but he was so distraught with panic over creature's threats towards vics family that he wasn't thinking). it hits harder in this book because of how its described. creature tells vic that since vic made him alone with nobody to love him, creature was going to make vic alone too, and when he had nobody left, he and creature would be each other's sole companions

anyway HAHA i might post a more detailed review but I really recommend this book ;3; very heartbreaking, refreshing and strong once you get past the initial strangeness of a modern telling. (it is mostly clean, for a frankenstine adaptation, but there's a couple warnings besides the typical frankenmurders and corpses and stuff: addiction is briefly addressed, some of the corpses are described a bit graphically, and there is some discussion of suicide, that's all i can recall)

tl;dr: really good, emotional book that, once you get over the initial surprise of a modern day setup, has lots of diversity, positive relationships, great character portrayals and is really faithful to the original overall, and the changes that are made have their place. my favorite adaptation so far 😭

oh noctis is absolutely crazy ticklish but ONLY on certain spots and if you do not get to those certain spots in a timely manner to knock his ass to the ground, he WILL retalitate and he will NOT be nice about it whatsoever (:< most of his body is ticklish, but its only a few areas on him that are really gonna get you that uncontrollable belly laughter

i definitely think its noctis’s legs / thighs. because of his accident and his limp, his legs dont get touched very often for fear of hurting him, so theres very little immunity there and hes already ticklish there, so take a feather or soft brush, go to town, and see what lovely screechy melodies he lets out

surprisingly, i dont think his feet are all that sensitive. dudes wearing doc  martin lookin boots like ALL of the time and boots make your feet calloused, especially when you do strenous stuff in them a lot ( i speak from experience ) and since i dont think noctis regularly sees a pedicurist, i’m willing to say hes not all too ticklish on his feet. 

what is their laugh like?

omg SO much softer than you’d think. it’s sweet sounding, almost like bird’s chirp and his voice raises an octave when he laughs, so it’s higher pitched and just. so cute.

definitely depends on the person. noctis is a neutral guy for the most part, i think if the mood was right and the person tickling him was already a lover, it could definitely be used as foreplay and kink. but his dad used to tickle him sometimes, so did cor, and all of the chocobros absolutely have their share of tickle fights, whether theyre dating or not, so theres room for it to be platonic as well.

sometimes. noctis doesnt go into lee moods that often, and if he does, he either finds a distraction or just starts teasing gladio, because without asking for it, gladio will usually find a reason to tickle him. ignis doesnt do much tickling unless its by accident or if you really start to irritate him, and trust me, noctis has been on the receiving end of frustrated ignis tickles and that was some of the most intense shit he’s ever dealt with in his life ( spoiler: he goes back for more )

YEAH it really does, but more so in the heat of the act. if you tease him outside of tickling, he’ll tease you back. get flustered, sure, but he’ll try to fight back and that’s the pride of being royalty talking. but yes, he responds well to teasing words, especially if theyre coupled with teasing fingers

ok bestie here is my attempt at giving the rockjin incest au an actual plot:

so rocky and jinjin have always been incredibly close siblings. they spend a lot of time together and tell each other pretty much everything, and everyone always points out that they have a really good relationship. they both live together even after leaving their parents house so theyre pretty much inseperable. but then, jinjin mentions casually that hes been seeing someone and rocky kind of doesnt know how to take it. he acts normally abt it but something abt knowing his brother is going out with people kind of unsettles him. this leads to rocky questioning how he feels abt jinjin in the first place. he realizes that he doesnt actually have that many life plans that dont involve his brother, he always kind of figured they would always live together and that was that. rocky has never even had a partner before nor did he ever really considered having one because in his mind, jinjin was all he really needed.

so thinking about all of this he obviously comes to the conclusion that hes in love with his brother and at first he feels very guilty about it, but he quickly just stops caring because hes like "well jinjin makes me happy, and clearly i make him happy too, so would it really be so wrong?"

so after thinking abt all of this and realizing that the reason he doesnt want his brother going on dates with people is because hes in love with him, he decides he needs to tell him, just to clear things between them. he wants to be with jinjin, but nothing is gonna change unless rocky actually tells him how he feels. so one night theyre both hanging out together and rocky is like "hey. i really need to tell you something" and obviously jinjin is kinda concerned bc rocky sounds unusually serious, so clearly this is a big deal.

so rocky just confesses to him and hopes for the best. he tells him that he likes him and that he wants to be with him and that he really doesnt care if theyre brothers. jinjin does not take it well. initially he thinks its a joke but then rocky gets upset when he sees jinjin isnt taking it seriously and thats when hes like "holy shit, this is for real."

jinjin doesnt know what to do. he feels really uncomfortable and cant even really believe this is happening, so he tells rocky "hey, listen, i dont think youre actually in love with me, its my fault for not establishing better limits and letting you cling to me so much. youre just confused and im sorry i made you think of these things."

and rocky is just so upset because he knows what he feels and jinjin is just deciding for him what those feelings mean. he feels condescended and hurt so they have a really big argument about it and it doesnt end well. jinjin gets very frustrated, so he ends up calling rocky a "freak" and immediately regrets it once he sees the impact those words have on rocky. rocky ends up telling jinjin that he wished he'd never said anything and even though jinjin tries to take back what he said, rocky doesnt want to listen to him. they stop talking to each other for weeks after that.

this was supposed to be a horny au but now its just angst. i'll continue this later bc its so much fun.

HFKSKFKSLFKSL I DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO GET ANGSTY TOWARDS THE END. But I rlly enjoyed that, I love it when arguments progress like this and characters say shit they regret afterwards but can't take back in the moment bc the other person leaves or just isn't willing to listen anymore. The BETRAYAL rocky must've felt tho, when he expected jinjin to maybe at least be a little understanding and not burn him so badly

Why I like them: izuki’s just overall so amazing! he inspires me to give my best in the stuff i do, and although it sounds a bit silly i try to be a person that he’d be proud of. his puns are hilarious and well-thought-out (as a person who loves words and word jokes, i’m naturally drawn to him lol). they’re also a way to take the heat off the team, he’s so hardworking and never views obstacles as obstacles, rather as hills he must climb to find newer skies. he’s also rather clever and employs his brains to great effect when his body fails him! izuki embodies the meaning of ‘eagle’ in the truest sense - waiting to strike when the time is right and not failing when it is.

Why I don’t: *sweats* can’t really think of a reason i don’t like izuki, at all??? i guess he can overwork himself a lot and tends to keep his true emotions hidden which could lead to misunderstandings between friends (although this is totally headcanon territory lol)... i also didn’t like the ableist comment he passed on hayama (“i’m just glad you weren’t smarter than me”). but i think he can (and will!) grow from that kind of stuff, he is that kind of person so yeah no particular reason for me to dislike him at all

Favorite episode (scene if movie): how dare you make me pick s3 e8 izuki vs kasamatsu, hands down. i know its like cliche or whatever but that moment just told me so much about izuki as a character? he’s willing to do what it takes to win, he’s adaptable and dependable and he doesn’t let shit get him down ever. it’s gorgeous

Favorite season/movie: s3, he got some fantastic moments in there!! although i will say i loved the spotlighting he got in s1 in the seihō match

Favorite line: “Fear isn't a bad thing. There are some things that can only be done by cowards.” this is first of all such a nice thing to say. ‘fear is not bad’ is just... so fucking wise? keep in mind that this boy is 17, i’ve met 30 year olds who are less mature. secondly it feels like izu’s speaking from experience?? like he has a lot to be scared of, i’m sure. particularly of falling behind and being a burden to his teammates. but it’s that ‘cowardice’ that drives him to practice so so hard. that visceral terror of weighing on seirin is what pushes izuki beyond his limits - which is why here he can empathise with furi’s fear, and knows how best to employ it.

Favorite outfit: look i hate last game w/ a passion but that lil tie/shirt/hoodie thing he had going? that was literally so cute. izuki in general has a p great fashion sense but his last game outfit takes the cake <3

OTP: hyuuizu oh my god i could talk for years about them but since this post is gonna be very long i’ll refrain. just. they are perfect they are fucking perfect

Brotp: kiyoizu!! kiyoshi is izuki’s biggest enabler and i love that for him <3

Head Canon: izuki can be very very passive aggressive when he’s angry at someone/sad and gets cold and withdrawn. it’s not fun to experience but tbh if you upset him you probably deserve it

Unpopular opinion: izuki should’ve been naturally better in canon. it’s not fair to shaft him and give the ‘trier’ thing off to himuro. that being said i am p happy with who he is as a person

A wish: i want to know how izuki felt after middle school! izuki’s and riko’s backstory focuses so much on hyuuga its dumb >:( he also would’ve been demoralised but he didn’t quit bball and i would like to know his thought process!

Why I like them: lots of reasons! kiyoshi is an admirable person. he’s strong, yet friendly and gentle, and he loves his team above all else, which i just find beautiful. i find his manipulative side also pretty cool, bc it shows off how multifaceted he is.

Why I don’t: this is more of a fandom reason but i really dislike how kiyoshi is always said to have had the greatest impact in hyuuga’s story. he badgered and manipulated hyuuga, and while some may argue hyuuga needed that push, it only worked bc hyuuga had had time to think about shit. he’d also been given space by riko and izuki (two integral parts of his life whom the fandom looooves to sideline for uwu kiyo//hyuu). 

Favorite episode (scene if movie): yousen match (can’t pick the episodes)! i loved the backstory we got for kiyo vs mura and i loved how kiyoshi was willing to smile and play but also refused to lose. he truly stole the show despite kagami being the one to finally take down murasakibara, it was gorgeous <3

Favorite season/movie: s2 for sure. kiyoshi wasn’t allowed to shine much after yousen imo - all the focus was on hyuuga kagami and kuroko, and to a lesser extent izuki. not complaining, but yeah

Favorite line: “Let’s go have some fun.” i know it’s kinda cliche but i do love how kiyoshi’s always thinking about playing a good game and enjoying basketball. he wants to play because he loves it and as someone who loves a sport as much as kiyoshi loves b-ball, that love is so poignant and tender

Why I like them: im a lesbian, next. /j i love her because she’s so tenacious and driven. yet she’s also kind and gentle, and never loses her humanity. she cares, and she cares hard. she’s so fucking smart too like... coaching a hs basketball team at 17 against players of NBA calibre and making them win? i could never. seirin without riko is nothing.

Why I don’t: i dont like the constant slapstick of her beating up her boys. also, i dislike how the narrative forces her to act ‘feminine’ and then has the boys think of it as nothing. like first of all if someone like her offered me a kiss i would so take 100, and secondly... why is a girl’s worth so tied to her femininity? it’s awful

Favorite episode (scene if movie): her sending in furi vs kaijō, early in s3. it was an exceedingly smart move that could have only come from her knowing her players’ strengths and weaknesses intimately, and being a brilliant coach. just amazing <3

Affection: How do they show their love and affection? How intense would it get?

He's very… monotone in his love. He rarely says it verbally and usually turns to soft touches. Mainly because hes still unsure himself oh how this is supposed to work but by God dont think that's a weakness. His grip does tend to tighten. 

Blood: How messy are they willing to get when it comes to their darling?

Much like Masato, he ruins their life without taking it. Im talking about exploiting their deepest darkest secrets, absolutely humiliating them in front of everyone that knows them hes like anonymous, but worse. 

Cruelty: How would they treat their darling once abducted? Would they mock them?

He doesnt mock them but he studies them which may or may not be worse. To have someone watch you break down and lose it, completely emotionless; analyzing you as your form becomes weaker and weaker is so much worse than a punch to the face. 

Darling: Aside from abduction, would they do anything against their darling’s will?

Eh. He puts them in uncomfortable situations to study their reaction. It can go from anywhere to calling a ~bigger~ person pregnant looking, to going on the dark web and watching someone commit cannibalism. 

Exposed: How much of their heart do they bare to their darling? How vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling?

He unknowingly entrusts then with a lot of it mainly because he wants his darling to explain to him why he's feeling this way. Why his heart aches to be with them under any circumstances. 

Fight: How would they feel if their darling fought back?

He'd have a very rationally laid out answer for this type of reaction. May it be the lack of freedom of constant staring of his; its okay. He forgives them. 

Game: Is this a game to them? How much would they enjoy watching their darling try to escape?

This is not a game but rather a sick science experiment. Go ahead, try to escape, but there's literal traps all around the house and without his helping hand to guide them past them, theyre are sure to hurt themselves. 

Hell: What would be their darling’s worst experience with them?

As mentioned above, he has literal traps around the house. From tripping over invisible string to being magnet cuffed to the wall. Their worst experience, however, has to have been when they found a "secret" door, (which wasn't actually there, he put it there) and opened it only to have water pour on them and getting electrocuted. Now if you didnt know, water and electricity dont mix. Especially not on a human. 

Ideals: What kind of future do they have in mind for/with their darling?

He wants to keep them with him of course. But more as a pet. A science experiment that bends to his every will. 

Jealousy: Do they get jealous? Do they lash out or find a way to cope?

He doesnt get jealous. He gets deadly. If someone tried to touch his darling or "save" them, he would W R E C K them in the worst way possible. Rationally, of course. All his steps are calculated and they would never catch him. 

Kisses: How do they act around or with their darling?

He acts relatively normal. Emotionless, stoic, smart. But he loves to just, well, love them. He likes to curl up against them or put them in his lap and run his fingers through their hair, whispering sweet words that they knew, ultimately, meant nothing. 

Love letters: How would they go about courting or approaching their darling?

Its a curiosity game. He's curious about them and they try to find out why he's the way he is. Why so blank? So monotone? It's quite fun to watch them figure him out while he already several files on them. 

Mask: Are their true colors drastically different from the way they act around everyone else?

No. Much like he told Syo and Natsuki, theyre a test subject and he made that very clear from the beginning on, to everyone. 

Naughty: How would they punish their darling?

Traps, testing the limits of the human body, you know? Hypothermia? How long til it kicks in? Could you withstand the boiling point of skin if he just gradually turns up the heat? Of course hed never kill you. Just… observe the process. 

Oppression: How many rights would they take away from their darling?

They dont have any rights outside of him. They rely on him for everything from clothing to food and water, to walks in the park. Everything is determined and up to him. 

Patience: How patient are they with their darling?

He actually has a decent amount of patience because, again. Experiment. He wants to know why they're feeling this way and makes them talk about every last out and episode. 

Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?

Quite honestly, that depends on the natural personality of his darling. If they're kind and compassionate, almost like a mother, he would feel all kinds of sad emotions, maybe even overheat and "die". If they're constantly defiant and just annoying to deal with one way or another, he can find himself a new darling. 

Regret: Would they ever feel guilty about abducting their darling? Would they ever let their darling go?

No. He might have felt a ping of guilt once or twice but if his darling didn't catch that, they missed all their opportunity. 

Stigma: What brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)?

Mainly the confusion about emotions in general. No one told him that feeling this strong toward someone was not, well, normal, but toxic. Suffocating. Deadly. Everyone just told him he was in love. Who knew love could be so killer? 

Tears: How do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves?

Indifferent. He'd take comfort them to get information out of them. Some times though he actually does hurt for them, mainly if it wasnt his fault though. Which is rarely the case. 

Unique: Would they do anything different from the classic yandere?

This is literally an experiment to him. Its not true obsession, but a kid who takes it way too far, ya know? 

Vice: What weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?

Since he is very confused about his emotions, as mentioned above, if you catch him in a vulnerable state and kind of step on his emotions a bit, you might be able to distract him. Emphasis on might. 

Wit’s end: Would they ever hurt their darling?

Oh yes, mainly to see their reactions and it's not as extreme as others. He would never beat them, cut them, or feed them to the wolves. Just… testing their limits in other ways.

Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over?

Its so bittersweet that after every bad thing, he holds his darling tight and tells them how proud he is of them, how much he "LOVES" them, knowing damn well that he has no clue what love is and this is just unhealthy behavior. 

Yearn: How long do they pine after their darling before they snap?

He calls it observing rather than pining lol but he can go on for ages or at least until his darling shows interest in him, too. Thats when he strikes.

Zenith: Would they ever break their darling? 

Yes and hes in the process of that. Taking away their rights is only the first step of forming an obedient pet .

Im asking this genuinely so pls dont yell at me; when you say that those using trigger warnings dont care about their readers’ mental health and wellbeing, what else are trigger warnings supposed to be for? To make sure people don’t enter fics that have material that would harm them. Just like tv shows that warn about nudity or violence or what have you. Its a rating system, theyre warnings. Tagging for rape or underage ARE the looking-out-for-readers thing. Past that, it is on readers to decide

I try not to yell at anyone engaging in good faith, I know it doesn’t always seem that way, but I would rather be engaged with than ignored...the latter is when my volume goes up, lol.

But in answer to your question, it comes down to the fact that trigger warnings are well established enough in fandom by now, that they exist as a kind of social contract.

In short, its EXPECTED that you provide trigger warnings, and that if you don’t have them, someone will bring that up at some point.

Problem is, this counter-productively works against what trigger warnings are actually FOR.....once we reach a point (which we’ve long since reached)....where a lot of people are only including the trigger warnings because of the social contract that expects them to have them, and not ACTUALLY because they’re prioritizing their readers’ well-being.

Something I see a LOT after trigger warnings is the phrase or sentiment “enter at your own risk”....and the phrasings are so, so key to what I’m talking about. 

Take a small sampling and just look for what I’m describing and I’m fairly certain you won’t have to go far to find an example of a fic where the tone of the author is not one of concern for readers, but preemptive concern for potential backlash from readers.

And these are two very different things.

Like, we all know how to read and interpret tone and nuance. Its genuinely not that hard to tell the difference between a sincere expression of wanting readers to be aware of potentially triggering content, and a faux-expression of that when really, the only thing you’re worried about triggering is a negative reception from people, and you want to get ahead of that by making it clear from the get go that hey, you did your job, you warned readers, and thus nobody has any grounds to say anything about your content itself.

Because also too there’s the fact that trigger warnings are inherently fallible. They rely on the author’s own AWARENESS of their content and everything it might include......but a racist author isn’t going to place a trigger warning for using their characters as mouthpieces for even blatant white supremacist ideology. 

A genuinely predatory author (and yes, they absolutely do exist, and its willful stubbornness that people rely on to pretend that like, for some bizarre reason, only genuinely predatory people don’t partake in this otherwise global hobby of reading and writing fiction, like what even is that, how do you arrive at that conclusion, that like, actual pedophiles are so busy preying on ‘real life’ teenagers in their zip code 24/7 that they just don’t have TIME to go online and cultivate predatory relationships with real life teenagers via social media? That doesn’t make any sense!)

But anyway, a genuinely predatory author, is absolutely NOT going to tag or place trigger warnings for pedophilia, etc....because they don’t WANT the things they write perceived that way.

People trying to normalize incest are not always going to tag for incest because they want to DISTANCE the cute, sweet dynamic between two ‘only sorta brothers’ as other than the kind of incest that destroys families...regardless of the reality that most cases of incest are the LATTER and its the FORMER that’s so rare it barely exists. 

And that sort of thing is how we get terms like dub-con and pseudo-incest and ‘consensual underage sex’ when its describing a relationship between a minor and adult....because this is mitigating, distancing language. Its entire reason for existing is to make unpalatable content seem more palatable.

And especially in Batfandom, we KNOW this.

Because we all, practically universally, give Devin Grayson crap for describing the rape in Nightwing #93 as ‘nonconsensual sex’ and go.....THATS NOT A THING!

And then half of fandom turns around and....acts like that and similar stuff...IS A THING.

That doesn’t work! LOL. It just...doesn’t.

Or another example, because abuse can be just as triggering as rape.....like, for me, personally, I’m a survivor of both, and yes, both CAN be triggering. But not as much as people might think....like, just reading a depiction of these things doesn’t trigger me.

Its, like you were saying at the get go, yes, a matter of surprise.....the kind of thing that CAN be warned for, and prepared for, and its the sheer unexpectedness that’s usually the trigger. 

Like.....I went off a few weeks ago about reading a story that was supposed to be about Dick’s brothers learning the truth about what led him to take the Spyral mission and what happened in Forever Evil. That’s what the summary said, that was it, that was the only thing it led me to expect about the story. So understandably, I go into the story expecting it to be sympathetic to Dick. I’m looking for catharsis from it honestly, a salve for the many fics and canon events that blamed and punished him for something I don’t consider his fault, right?

And then towards the end....I get Jason punching Dick again, before hugging him, because that’s just how he reluctantly shows love or whatever.

This genuinely triggered me, yeah. Its why I got so upset about it. Because I was blindsided, I had no way to prepare for it, because I went in expecting catharsis for a story that bothered me due to its victim blaming, and instead I got the author heaping on more of the same abuse we already saw in canon.....with zero awareness that’s what she was doing. 

So....that’s absolutely something I wrestled with should I message the author and ask them to add a trigger warning or not? Because I genuinely could have used one. It would have helped. I would have avoided that story if I had any notion that might crop up in it, because frankly, that’s not something I had any interest in reading.

But problem is, there’s only really two realistic outcomes there. If she was open to hearing a genuine request for her to be aware that her content contained triggering material for a reader....chances are, she probably would have just edited it and taken that out entirely. It was just one line. Easy enough to do. It certainly didn’t add anything.

Problem is....there’s an equal and opposite likely outcome....that she’d get defensive, call this unsolicited criticism, and double down on the idea that what she had written wasn’t abuse, because obviously she doesn’t condone abuse, so she wouldn’t have written that plain and simple. It has to be acknowledged that a lot of authors ARE innately defensive about social content in their work, and not open to hearing they’ve done something offensive or triggering....because that’s like...literally the basis of the ‘no unsolicited criticism’ movement in fandom, even though being critical of toxic ideology expressed in content is NOT the same as offering criticism of someone’s writing in general. 

So you see what I mean? A trigger warning COULD genuinely help in that situation....but our fandom environment simply flat out is not conducive for readers to be at all confident that they even CAN come forward and alert an author that they delved into an offensive, even harmful take with their content and be well received no matter HOW they phrase it....

For much the same reasons I mentioned in that other post. People are more likely to instinctively jump to the defense of the person WRITING the content that offended or did actual emotional harm....than the person simply trying to say, backed by their own lived experience of....being offended or experiencing emotional harm....hey, this is a problem for me and I would appreciate it being regarded as such....

Otherwise, what is even the POINT of this entire system of trigger warnings in the first place? If a problem for a reader isn’t regarded as worthy of attention in and of itself.....at least, not in comparison to whatever problem that READER’S problem creates for the WRITER.

You see what I’m saying? For this, and a lot of other reasons, trigger warnings are innately fallible. They rely on an honor code system, and the uncomfortable truth is none of us are actually naive enough to believe everyone in fandom is innately honorable enough to honor that....if they were, would we have as much cases of anon hate, spite fics, etc?

But fandom as a whole looked at the trigger warning system and decided well....its good enough. Because its not like I’m proposing a viable alternative, its not like I have a BETTER system in mind, offhand. All I do have is the point that well...no...its NOT good enough as is....because for a ton of reasons, there’s a ton of cases in which there’s a ton of people for which it flat out doesn’t work for or benefit at all.

But when this comes up to any degree, in any capacity whatsoever....and the only thing people fall back on is well, I tagged it, or I used trigger warnings what more do you want, or its good enough for me so that’s what matters, or just....

“I did what I was supposed to per the social contract about trigger warnings, so if anything goes wrong in your reading experience at this point, that’s entirely on you.”

Like, does that make sense?

Basically, there’s a world of difference between:

This is a problem that still needs solving because the solution provided now is not all-encompassing or inclusive....

And....

This is a problem that’s already been solved as far as I’m concerned, and I’m utilizing that solution so any further problems are just in the mind of the reader and have nothing to do with reality, let alone me and my work.

Again, as I said above....its the difference between genuinely engaging with other members of your fandom community with actual concern for THEIR fandom experience.....or faking engagement with other members of your fandom community when your only real concern is YOUR fandom experience, and at most, the experiences of anyone who already is of like minds to you on a subject.

Hopefully that answers your question or clarifies my stance there, anon. And thank you for actually engaging on this. It feels a bit like shouting into the void a lot of the time, lol.

(There is a small, injured bird on the ground. It seems distressed, and its wing is bent strangely, and Zira is slowly creeping towards it)

(Tony has crept along behind Rhodey and is gesturing to him to just go ahead and that he will stay here and do something else that is not listening in)

(Rhodey was approaching Zira, but pauses uncertainly when he sees the bird she's going for)

(He rolls his eyes at Tony)

(Tony shrugs his shoulders and flaps at Rhodey to continue)

(Rhodey hesitantly starts forward, doing his best not to be quiet, but not startling either)

Rhodey: Hey, Zira, what you doing?

(Her head whips around and she relaxes slightly, realizing it’s just Rhodey)

Zira: I don’t know what to do!

(Tony settles against a tree and pulls out his bag of tools, pretending to do something with them.)

Rhodey: Is the bird hurt? Do you want to help it?

Zira: Yes! I know so little about birds though, and I don’t want to hurt it more.

Rhodey: Would you like help? I don't know much about birds, but I'm okay when it comes to patching injuries.

Zira: I’m certified in fixing people, not birds. I’m assuming we'd need to set the wing, and make sure this bird is somewhere safe and warm while it recovers, but I’m worried that that might scare it to death. I saw a bird die after someone picked I up. I don’t know what killed it, the fear or the fact that she snapped its neck. I don’t wanna be like her.

(Rhodey moves over to Zira and kneels next to her and the bird) 

Rhodey: Whoa, easy, Zira, take a deep breath; it's alright. We can help it.

(Zira hunches over and shifts a bit away, but still near the bird)

Zira: We can?

Rhodey: Yeah, here: let me try something.

Zira: :o?

(Rhodey reaches out slowly to the distressed bird and, upon brushing its wing, uses Lay on Hands to heal it)

(The bird peeps in surprise as its wing pops back into shape. It lies there for a few moments, then shakes itself and flaps the wing to test it. It hops a few steps forward, then flies off)

Zira: :O!! You’re a healer!

Rhodey: I can do a little, yeah.

Zira: That’s amazing! What spell was that? Is there a specific source you draw your power from or is it innate? And you could assist me in caring for fake Tony! He’s a bird, too, and I would hate to hurt him.

(Tony is still messing around with his tools, listening in on the conversation while pretending not to. He smiles at hearing Zira call Bob "Fake Tony")

Rhodey: That was called Lay on Hands. I don't think it's a spell exactly-- It comes from being a paladin. I draw power from my goddess, the Lawbearer. And I'm always happy to help people. It's what I like best.

Zira: The lawbearer, that’s amazing. Is she like the archetypal lawful good enforcer of the pantheon? I’m guessing she’s probably one of the more major players. And I think I like helping, too. (she smiles kind of uncertainly)

Rhodey: Yeah, Erathis-- sorry, that's her name-- is about the good of civilization and community. She... well. (he rubs his neck nervously) She, and the friend who introduced me to her... they saved me.

Rhodey: And that's great, Zira, helping can be really rewarding.

Zira: They were right to save you. You seem to have a lot of useful skills. (she pauses, uncertain) ...But that’s not what... matters? Because people derive worth from...something I can’t seem to get a hold of.

Rhodey: (he smiles) Thank you, Zira, I like to think that I can be useful, but I get what you mean. People... Everyone has different things that they value.

Zira: And they deserve presents and kindness even if they aren’t useful or earned it (she pulls out a piece of chocolate and holds it out to Rhodey)

Rhodey: Yes, everyone is worth kindness. (He startles a bit, then smiles at her) Oh, uh, thank you, Zira. (He accepts it)

Zira: And, uh, I’m really glad you didn’t kill that bird. I, uh, I was very weak when Asher snapped the other one’s neck and displayed. Emotions. That simply hinder. Which I should not have done.

Rhodey: (blinks at her, looking up from the present) Oh, that's... I'm sorry Zira, that can't have been pleasant to watch

Rhodey: What? Emotion... Zira… Emotions are beautiful. They can hurt so much, but they're beautiful too

Zira: They don’t seem like it. Theyre weak points and they hurt so much. Even if you feel good for a little while it never lasts. It never lasts.

Rhodey: I know, they can. And it can definitely seem like that... Uh. Would you be willing to sit down with me for a bit?

Zira: I... Sure

(Rhodey leads them over to a log a little ways away)

(Zira follows, a bit wary)

(Once they sit down) Rhodey (slightly nervous): Would it be right to say that you've lost someone you care about?

Zira: I did not lose them. I left them. The fault was entirely mine

Rhodey: (gives her a considering look) Were you in danger?

Zira: Danger is a constant. And at the moment, I should have been fine. There was no great fight or threats at that moment. I just. Couldn't...stay there.

Rhodey: I'm not gonna pry, but It sounds like it wasn't a happy place, and that leaving made you safer, right? At least, you're safer now?

Zira: I don’t know. If my betrayal is discovered, which it doubtlessly has been, I will be hunted and brought in, dead or alive.

Rhodey: (looks very concerned and hiding anger at these unknown people) Well, I can say with great certainty that these people you've found now? Me, Tony, the others? We're gonna help you.

Zira: I’m not sure if you can, but it’s very kind of you to offer, and I apologize for dragging you into this.

Rhodey: (sighs, and runs a hand over his hair) I'm bad at this. Look, I'm just going to share something, if that's all right.

Zira: They won’t hurt you if you don’t interfere. What is it?

Rhodey: Ok. So, DJ and Tony know this bit. I used to be a soldier. And, well, it wasn't the most pleasant, but we managed to help people and I liked that bit of the job

Zira: I could have been considered a soldier as well. But we never helped people.

Rhodey: Well, we certainly did some things I hated and I never want to do again, but we were mostly...seeking out people who hurt others.But, anyway, I had a friend. He, well, he was the one who introduced me to Erathis. A few years before my contract with the army was up, we got in over our heads. I had to duck out with a few others to get reinforcements, and by the time we got back... Well.

Rhodey: What I'm trying to say...is I understand what it's like to lose someone? No. No.. Still not good at this.

Zira: But you came back. You are not a traitor, you are not weak.

Rhodey: Once I was strong enough. I didn't come back right away--- I got help

Zira: I am going to say something very bad. I don’t want to go back. I don’t want to help them. Meri is the only one there with a chance of being good and they broke her. I’m sorry.

Rhodey: Well, to be frank here, I volunteered to be a soldier, to put my life on the line. I get the feeling fighting is the last thing you want to do-- you like helping people, right? Maybe, like with that bird, healing?

Zira: I want to help. I want to help more than anything.

Rhodey: There are so many ways you can help people. So many ways. And every single one is valid. I hope to learn a more powerful healing spell soon. Maybe... we could learn it together?

Zira: I don’t know how I can help anyone like this. I ran and I’m still running. I stitched Meri back together but I couldn’t fix her. I can only provide a hollow imitation of what is meant to be. I feel you would be a great healer. You have been brave, and good.

Rhodey: I think a lot of us in this group are running. That...doesn't make it bad. You can see a lot of interesting things while you're running. And I think you would be a great healer too. Zira, you are very kind. You may not know everything about the way the world works, but you want to help. You wanted to help that bird. That... that kindness is the most important thing for a healer.

Zira: I...guess. They always called it weakness.

Rhodey: Have you found them to be wrong about other things?

Zira: I received a...sign, that many of the things they did were bad, and wrong, but I’m still untangling the depths to which that reaches.

Rhodey: That's fair. Can you believe me if I say kindness is a strength? It takes strength to maintain it despite the world, and it takes strength to give it despite your fears.

Zira: I want to. That seems better than anything I've learned. Except for maybe presents and candy. Those are pretty great

Zira: It IS! Tony gave me SO MUCH and I LOVE IT!

Rhodey: (smiles, glances back at Tony) Yeah?

Rhodey: (holds up piece Zira gave him) Thanks for this, by the way.

Zira: People get presents for being people, not for doing anything, which is kinda weird. Lots of things are weird.

Rhodey: A lot of the best things are weird, just like people.

Zira: Like most bugs. And candy. And the idea the kindness is strength.

Rhodey: I'm not fond of bugs, but I can get behind those other ones.

Zira: But I think I like weird things. They seem a lot nicer than what i learned. Like you! Creda was training to be a paladin, but she wasn’t very nice.

Rhodey: (chokes on his own breath, and holds in a chuckle) Did he, now? I don't think I knew that.

Zira: He DID and said that dj would deny it but I really want to think it’s true because that is hilarious.

Rhodey: Honestly, anything could be true with those two, and at this point I've given up trying to figure out what's what.

Zira: There are so many secrets waiting to be found out here. That is very exciting.

Rhodey: Do you like puzzles and mysteries?

Zira: Like I know that you’re avoiding talking at length about what you did as a soldier because you’re ashamed and Tony is running from something just like me, and Bob definitely has a reason for the name changes that goes beyond any sort of physical damage. And luna is hiding something but I can’t figure out what. But I will. Thats what I’m good at.

Rhodey: You're pretty astute when it comes to reading people, aren't you?

Zira: I’ve always been good at information gathering. And people are the greatest mystery of them all. So I have to collect a lot of data to crack the secret.

Rhodey: Oh, boy, aren't they. People are messy and complicated

Zira: Yeah. I’m working on it, though. But we should probably go divvy up shifts for tonight.

Rhodey: Good idea. Thank you for talking with me, Zira, and let me know if you decide you want to learn some healing with me. It'd be nice to have a healing buddy

Zira: Healing buddies!

Rhodey: Yeah. (He smiles) Healing buddies

(Zira beams at Rhodey, gets up, and almost skips away)

(And as she passes Tony)

Zira: Hi, Tony!

(Tony drops tools)

Tony: Ah-

Zira: You should work on your subtlety a little more perhaps! It was very easy to tell you were there.

(Rhodey cackles to himself on the log)

Tony: ...ha? Sure.

Zira: It’s okay, though! We all start somewhere!

Zira: :D

Tony: ...That we do. I'm gonna...go over there. (gestures to Rhodey)

(Rhodey is still laughing his ass off)

Tony: You have a good time, though?

Zira: Of course! You, too!

(Tony waves to Zira, picks up his tools, and then goes to Rhodey.)

Tony: Shut up

Rhodey: Never (through laughter) that was great.

Tony: Ha ha, laugh it up.

Rhodey: Oh, I will (eventually settles himself) I will.

(Tony shoves at Rhodey, sits down on log)

Tony: So.

Rhodey: So.

Tony: That happened. You did good.

Rhodey: Ha, I don't know about that. I really put my foot in it a few times.

Tony: I probably did, too. It's not easy.

Rhodey: We haven't known her long, but it still really hurts to see her in pain-- emotional pain in this case, I guess. I wish I could help more.

Tony: Sometimes...waiting's all you can do. Waiting and pointing out the small things. She has to take those steps herself. We can just give her a small map

Rhodey: Yeah. And at least I can listen. I'm quite good at that.

Tony: That you are, that you are, buddy. You are very good at the strong and silent type.

Rhodey: Uh, thanks, Tony.

Tony: :3

Rhodey: Alright, enough of all that. We should go be useful with camp.

Tony: We should. And, uh...any ideas on last names? Or should we just sneak in a list into her pack.

Rhodey: Shoot. I forgot about that. A list might be a good idea.

Tony: Let's both come up with something.

Rhodey: Pool our resources.

Tony: Should we sign it? Because if she just finds a weird list of names in her bag...

Rhodey: I mean, that's a good point, but maybe she'll like the mystery of figuring out who gave her it?

Tony: ...point. Let's just make it super obvious it's from friends

Rhodey: Good plan

Tony: I'll write it down; you give me a list of names. I'll copy someone's handwriting...

Rhodey: (smiles and shakes his head) All right. I'll get to thinking and let you know when I have something.

Tony: You do that.

(Tony stares into forest)

Tony: ...I can't believe how messed up some people are.

(Rhodey claps Tony on the back) 

Rhodey: Well, i don't know. Maybe that's just the way of the world. Maybe everyone's messed up and we just can't see it

Tony: ...It shouldn't be.

Rhodey: Yeah. We can all do our best to make it a better place.

Tony: (turns to Rhodey, grinning brightly) Exactly. All we can do. And maybe one day it'll get better.

Rhodey: Yes, exactly. (stands up and brushes clothes off) Alright now, we really need to go help everyone else.

Tony: Yeah, yeah. Let's go do it, bird whisperer.

(Rhodey punches his shoulder) 

Rhodey: Well, I certainly didn't quibble half of last night with our resident bird.

Tony: Quibble? Quibble? There was no quibbling involved! It was a very serious discussion on names!

Rhodey: (starts walking off and calls over his shoulder) Definitely a quibble!

Tony: Not a quibble!

(Rhodey's totally doing this just to rub Tony wrong)

(Tony knows Rhodey is riling him up.)

(Tony continues muttering under his breath, gathering up his tools.)

Tony: Tony, Tony, Tony.  It was my name first. And I should definitely get better at stealth...

(Rhodey laughs to self and goes to help with the fire and food or whatever.

(Tony goes off with a sheet of paper and his tools.)

All might A-Z

A= affection 

Toshinori is a very affectionate man; he tends to keep any displays for when he’s alone with you. He would love to show you off to the world– hold your hand or give you any and all kisses in public, but sadly, being a high profile hero prohibits him from doing that. So when you’re at home together, there’s hardly a moment when he’s not touching you. You’re either in his lap, you he has his arms wrapped around you in any position. It’s very comforting. 

B= best memory

He doesn’t like choosing, because there are so many memories that he cherishes. But if he had to, he would say it was your first date. He remembers being so nervous, and you hadn’t been any better– but he had been able to gather up enough confidence to ask to hold your hand. He’ll never forget how flushed your cheeks were, or the giant, pretty smile that overtook your features. To this day, he still tries to make you smile that big again.

C= cat or dog person

Honestly, All Might screams ‘dog person’ to me. He probably has a fondness for big breeds, often charmed by the ones who are too big to be lap dogs but act like one anyways. He doesn’t mind cats, and actually likes them quite a bit, but owning a cat would come after getting a dog to him. 

D= dreams

Toshinori had already fulfilled his dream of being a hero, but his more domestic one is to have a family. He’s a good man, and loves children, so it’s only natural to want some of his own. Sadly, he had always been so busy as #1 and the danger of being that high profile and having a kid was much too great…he hopes later on in life he’ll be able to, even if he has to adopt.

E= evenings

If he’s not working, then his evenings are very laid back. He’ll eat dinner and either watch a show or read. If you ever happen to be over, he actually likes play board or card games with you to pass time. If he doesn’t have work early the next morning, he’ll often ask if you’d like to go to dinner, and treat you at an expensive restaurant– before taking you home and falling asleep in each others arms.

F= first date

Your first date was very simple and low-key, but it still made him incredibly nervous. He thought it would be nice to take you out for breakfast on a day where it wasn’t so busy– taking you on a long walk through the park. He had been so scared to ask to hold your hand, but he was glad he did– no matter how little the gesture was. It was you that kissed him by a pond, and he would be lying if he said he wasn’t red for the rest of the day.

G= giggle

In muscled form, Toshinori has a booming laugh– it’s loud and deep, definitely heroic and manly sounding. In regular form, he laughs with more of a soft chuckle, which is very cute and gentle. It doesn’t take a lot to make him laugh; he really could giggle at anything you say that’s supposed to be funny. He’s a pun man, and always gets a kick out of them, even if he’s the one saying them.

H= hugs

Oh boy does he love hugs, and man is he good at them. Toshinori hugs with his whole body, both arms squeezing you tightly enough where you feel protected, but soft enough that it never hurts. He never gives side hugs, always goes all the way– even with fans, but it’s of course less intimate than when he’s with you. His favorite way to hug is with you in his lap, arms around his neck while his are around your waist, holding you close.

I= instrument 

He’s never had time to really sit down and learn how to play one, no less keep up practice– but while his time in America he had learned how to play a few chords on an acoustic through David. He doesn’t remember much, but once he’s retired he’d like to get back into it, to give himself a hobby.

J= joy

A lot of things bring joy to Toshinoris life. Being a hero was one of them; saving people and gaining their love and trust was something he’s never give up, and it made all the hardships worth it. Midoriya and his heart of a true hero made his so proud and happy always, and that feeling seemed to grow each time he saw the boy improve. Having you in his life to love makes him calm and gleeful; you bring a domestic simplicity he’s always craved a bit; he’d never give that up.

K= kisses

Toshinori’s kisses are always passionate. He’s a passionate man, so his love has to be too. His lips are very soft, and they always feel just perfect against yours– holding you close and pecking yours softly when he leaves for the day, or a hand threading through your hair while he kisses you slow and heavy while pressed up against him on the sofa. They’re never too wet or overbearing, he knows how to move his lips just right.

L= love

Despite being handsome and well-liked, he’s very modest and a little shy when he likes someone. He’s a gentleman, but he tends to act more nice and soft towards you in particular; a clear sign he feels different. While he can be shy with his crush, he’s not above showing off a little too. During school, he’d always rise to the top of any fight or lesson– often turning to you with a smile to see if you noticed. He’s a bit like a puppy, it’s cute.

M= memory

His favorite personal memory would have to do with his master. He had never been incredibly close with his birth parents, so Nana had been a mother to him. He recalls one night after extensive and draining lesson, she invited him to her place for dinner. She cooked, stew that was hearty and thick, and talked to him for hours about his life outside of becoming the next OFA user, and what his dreams were. He’ll never forget the look of fondness on her face, or how intense her listening was. It made him wonder if she had consider him like a son.

N= no

By no fault of anyone else, Toshinori hates getting stuck. In his muscle form, he’s bulky and takes up a lot of space, so it’s hard to maneuver himself sometimes. Walking in the halls after school or trying to get to one destination on a busy sidewalk is hell in his muscle form, he’s too nice to push by and a little embarrassed to excuse his big self past anyone.

O= occupation

A given. Toshinori had always wanted to be a hero, so I imagine he was much like Midoriya growing up; not one to give into his fate of being quirkless, and always looking for a way that he would be able to achieve his dream. It all worked out, thankfully.

P= parent

Toshinori would be a fantastic father. He’s very caring and excitable, he’d be a fun and supportive dad. He had actually always wanted to someday have a child of his own, so if it were to ever happen he would absolutely shed tears. He’d be very hands-on during the pregnancy, no matter how tired he would be from hero work. He’d be secretive though, careful to not let any information on his child being his slip into public hands.

Q= questions

It’s not something he actively discusses since he doesn’t think about the topic too much, but he believes in aliens 100%! He finds it a little odd to think that we are alone in the universe (especially in the kind of world they live in, come on). Toshinori doesn’t partake in any religion, but he would be lying if he said he didn’t think there was a higher power up there.

R= romantic

He is so romantic in a relationship. He’s very busy in his hero life, but that never stops him from showing up on your doorstep after a patrol with flowers and dinner (no matter how tired he is). He says lots of fluffy things, mostly compliments that are so sweetly honest it could give you a cavity.

S= smile

In his line of work, the fact that he can save someone and hear their thanks never fails to make him smile. He loves that fact that people are willing to lean on him; put their trust into him. Toshinori was born to help people, and being able to live up to that makes everything worthwhile. In a romantic sense, being around you and just being is enough to make him smile. He feels most at peace when he is alone with you.

T= together

If he has the time to be, he can be very clingy. He’s an affectionate man, so if he’s able to he can lay with you wrapped in his arms all day. When the two of you share a free day, you never leave each others side. He’ll wake up with you in his arms, run around town holding your had, sit at home with an arm around your shoulder while you rest your head on his chest. Even while making dinner, you’re around each other. It’s very domestic and blissful.

U= unbearable 

After his accident, Toshinori begins to always look down on himself, and talk very negatively. It’s unbearable in the sense that you hate to see your joyful and beautiful man so self-deprecating. When he’s like this, he hates when you fret over him. He feels like he doesn’t deserve it, so he often pushes you away. He never snaps, but he’s cold and blunt; it’s hard for the both of you.

V= Videos

Toshinori isn’t the best photo/video taker, but god forbid if he doesn’t try. His album is full of pictures of you; whether it’s one you posed for, or one he took while you were doing mundane things. Any selfies of you two are a little blurry if he took them, otherwise he has all the ones you do. He’s not much of a video taker, but if the situation arises (a surprise for you, or if the two of you ever have kids) he tries.

W= wedding

The wedding was actually small; only your family and some of his + Gran Torino and Dave. Any news of it was kept from the public in fear of it being ruined, so it took place out of the city in a small but pretty church. It was truly one of the best days of his life, and he cried when you walked down the isle. Most of this pictures are hanging up in your shared home, and he loves to gaze at them when he feels off.

X= eXtra

Toshinori likes to read and write poetry. It started as a hobby when he was younger, a way to release any pent-up emotions; and continued on throughout his life. His vows to you had been a short yet sweet piece; flowing beautifully and smoothly to the point you had also cried. If he did not become a hero, he very well could have been a famous poet.

Y= yuck

He likes baked goods and any edible sweets, but artificial sweet smells are a no for him. They smell fake and much too strong, often giving him a headache if he’s around a candle or perfume for too long.

Z= zzzz

Toshinori sleeps heavy, but he doesn’t get the chance to very often. He works shifts and on-call, so he’s often interrupted from a deep sleep. If he’s able to, he can sleep for ten hours interrupted, and it’s incredibly hard to wake him when he’s that far gone.

thanks for coming to my essay! now that i have your attention, i think we should stop talking about anti-vaxxers like theyre all backwards hyper-religious dumbasses. like, im frustrated too, and i agree that "personal/religious reasons" should not allow someone to keep their kids unvaccinated. furthermore, as an autistic person, i despise the myth that vaccines cause autism. i especially hate that it scares people into avoiding vaccines, because theres nothing wrong with me.

but ridiculing these people will only make the problem worse, and here's why: i think that a lot of anti-vaxxers and their communities are used to feeling like the most important aspects of their cultural identities are universally mocked or demonised (im not qualified to say whether these feelings reflect reality in every case, but either way im just talking about feelings, ie, what people think we believe about their culture). for instance, my only knowledge of amish people comes from jokes ive seen others make about them. yes, none of these jokes were very serious, and its easy for me to laugh at them because im not amish, but despite my low empathy i can understand that it just feels bad to hear a whole bunch of jokes about something important to you. i'll get back to this point in a moment.

anyway, i bring up the amish because in 2014, there were measles outbreaks in some amish communities in Ohio. and i think that a lot of the people who dont vaccinate their kids are used to being ridiculed for their "weird" or "new age" or "hyper-religious" or "unchristian" lifestyles, so they just see our concern as more of that mockery. we all sound the same to them, and cant you see why?

"ughh all these people ignoring science and being stubborn about vaccines because their church said--" you sound like one of those atheists. if you cant say anything productive, please stay out of the discussion. why do you act like ridiculing people will change their minds? we should be reaching out, instead.

we need to make the effort to approach anti-vaxxers in a way that distinguishes us from those who only converse with them to mock them.

i want more people to understand that the best way to change someone's mind when they're defensive is by listening. you need to be willing to accept whatever they might rant about, and respect that, even if their fears seem ridiculous, even if their fears are rooted in ableism, their fears still terrify them. thats why theyre called fears. you can validate someone's feelings of anxiety and confusion without validating their bigotry, and you must be willing to accept that this is work. this is difficult. it's much, much harder than yelling your opinions. it's exhausting, and sometimes it doesn't even pay off. sometimes you just can't convince somebody, and you have to be able to accept that.

if this seems too hard for you, i have good news: you do not have to do it. this kind of thing is not for everyone, and it's okay if you just don't want to. this doesn't have to be your responsibility.

i only ask that you stop making things worse by (performatively, in the case of yall who arent in danger of dying/losing a loved one to a preventable disease) mocking anti-vaxxers, because we are the ones who need something from them. we are asking them to face their fears (which were sometimes instilled in them very early in their childhood) for the good of humanity. i don't know about all of you, but i'd be hesitant at best to face even my third worst fear (spiders) for the sake of strangers who regularly mock my culture and heritage, and i know for a fact that most spiders cannot harm me!

this is natural. this is human. it is easy to dismiss things you dont understand, and it's even easier to dismiss them when all the scientific evidence agrees with you. however, your evidence does not make these people's experiences and fears less real for them. it does not lessen the effect their fear has on their choices. knowing that a tarantula won't hurt me if i follow certain guidelines will not stop me from shaking and having a breakdown if i think too hard about touching one. knowing that nothing bad would happen doesn't motivate me to go over to the science building at my college and ask to hold their fucking tarantula.

there are no shortcuts here. if we want anti-vaxxers to accept vaccines and stop putting so much effort towards keeping their children unvaccinated, we have to convince them that they don't need to be afraid of vaccines. we need to actually address their concerns. telling them their fears are ridiculous is just not convincing no matter how much scientific evidence you have. this discussion has become too performative. people just tell anti-vaxxers to vaccinate their kids, and they dont bother to address the fear that motivates their opponents. they don't care that they're asking people to trust a yelling internet stranger with their child's health.

it is inconsiderate to demand things from people without stopping to think about what you're asking for. please think about it from their point of view. if vaccines were dangerous, and they vaccinated their kids, then anything bad that happened to their kids due to the vaccines would be their responsibility. and remember, these people have not been given a convincing reason to believe vaccines are harmless. okay? they do not want to be at fault for their children getting hurt. yes, they are wrong. yes, they are frustrating. yes, they are endangering immunocompromised people like my dad, but there is a huge difference between being malicious and being misguided. please do not treat them like they set out to hurt you.

also? stop telling them to care about other people when you don't care enough about them to respect that they're doing their best with the resources they have. stop saying "i dont know how to explain to you that you should care about other people" when you really just want them to magically stop being scared. maybe you say it out of genuine frustration and bewilderment, but when everyone is saying it, it comes across like a smug 'gotcha!' phrase that excuses you from spending more energy on the debate. you can just say youre tired and stop.

i am trying to explain to you that you should care that these people have felt scammed/hurt by the medical industry enough times that they feel justified in risking the health of their whole family (assuming they even think vaccines work). you should care that theyve never been given a convincing reason to trust remedies promoted by rich strangers who make claims that sound too good to be true. the government has promoted harmful things to underprivileged people before, like milk (it took me a half hour to sift through unrelated stuff about soy milk to confirm this, so i'll go ahead and link my source). it is logical to mistrust an industry that operates for the profit of people youve never met. not everyone trusts the FDA to keep the pharmaceutical industry in check, and it's actually pretty smart to rely on direct accounts from people you know personally when you aren't sure how well something actually works, and you dont trust the ones selling it to you.

with that in mind, talking to people is probably the best way to tackle this issue, but many of you haven't bothered to compile introductory information about vaccines. you havent bothered to present these resources in a way that doesn't ridicule people who are scared. i am trying to explain to you that you shouldn't debate with people if you won't treat them like humans. i am trying to explain to you that "you dont actually care about others" is a hurtful and manipulative sentiment, and when you say it to people who are trying their best, you become part of the problem. you reinforce their mistrust. i am trying to explain to you that trusting doctors doesnt make you morally superior.

put yourself in their shoes for a moment. imagine that someone comes up to you and makes it clear that they think the choices you've made as a parent are ridiculous. they make claims about your child without offering proof, or the only proof they offer also mocks you and people like you (or they just tell you to "google it"). furthermore, they tell you that unless you give in, something bad will happen to their own children, and it will be your fault.

this is manipulative. even if you are correct, it is manipulative. demanding that someone treat their child in a way that they consider harmful is just ridiculous and i don't know why you expect people to listen to you. do you expect this to be easy? do you honestly believe that if someone isn't converted within minutes, they're just being stubborn? do you think these people know the truth, and only persist out of spite?

these questions are necessary, because many of you talk about anti-vaxxers as though the answer is 'yes.' there is a difference between being correct and treating people right. please be more aware of that line in the future, and do your best not to cross it.

oh, and by the way, if i see any of you using this year's measles outbreaks as an excuse to be hateful towards jewish people, i will block and report you. antivaxxers usually arent malicious, and if you perceive orthodox jewish antivaxxers as being worse than other antivaxxers, you need to rethink your beliefs. they arent rejecting vaccines just to hurt you. maybe theyre tired of being demonised and blamed for everything from climate change to unemployment to dead kids*, and theyre unwilling to trust random people with something as important as the health of their children when a lot of us have never bothered to listen to their struggles. (* ive seen a whole lot of people saying things that border on blood libel without quite involving blood during these discussions, so can we all agree to be careful not to do anything that resembles that shit now that ive provided a handy link about what it is? thanks)

lastly, all of this criticism of anti-anti-vaxxers is very easy for me to say because i have less of a personal stake in the issue. i know it must hurt in a way i can't currently understand to lose someone to a preventable disease. if i have made anyone feel dismissed or invalidated in this essay post, i'm sorry for doing so, and i want to make it clear that it is okay if you hate anti-vaxxers. i know their fear has hurt you, and i wouldn't ask you to pretend otherwise. i dont want to make any of you feel like you shouldn't talk about your experiences and fears. i'm just asking that, before you hit the post button, you read through your post and edit out anything manipulative or guilt-trippy. your contributions to this conversation are valuable, and i want the people youre trying to convince to be able to read them without feeling like they have to defend themselves instead of listening to you. the culture around this debate has become almost hostile, and while we dont all need to work directly with anti-vaxxers to make it better, we do all need to agree to stop making it worse.
