//With all the writing of Valentine's Day done and me just doing the tedious process of editing and making it look presentable, I figure I will celebrate with another Divine Paradox Pokemon, and moving onto Emma's now, I shall present to you; Frozen Hound!

//Approaching Emma I was gonna go for a Hoenn Pokemon but the question is, which one? It was between either Mightyena or Altaria, and while the latter might be interesting, plus since I was always gonna go Ice for the added type it would be a clever reference to Grusha's Altaria, I figured that Mightyena is a fairly unloved Pokemon and since Harley Quinn owns pet hyenas, which is what Mightyena is based on, that was the one I went for as its more related to Emma and its giving a overlooked Pokemon some much needed spotlight.

//The typing looks obvious and it is as Frozen Hound is a Dark/Ice type. Now this has some very stiff competiton since both Weavile and Chien-Pao are Dark/Ice attackers and last one checked, Mightyena is a physical attacker as well so what can Emma's pet pooch do to compete against a massive Sinnoh threat and one of the Treasures of Ruin? Well firstly, like all Divine Paradoxes, Frozen Hound has Divine Luck as an ability which, given what it can learn is a very useful ability indeed since a lot of its moves have secondary effects, making Divine Luck triggers happen very often.

//Now this is where I differnate from Weavile and Chien-Pao and that is stats as Frozen Hound's stat spread is 70/110/65/140/55/130. That's right to avoid competing with those two speedy physical attackers, I made Frozen Hound more of a Special Attacker! There's no way Frozen Hound would compete with them, plus with Emma's main role being a magic user, having her Divine Paradox Pokemon be more special then physical would work. Of course, its attack stat is nothing to sneeze at and its got good speed. This is naturally balanced by its terrible defences and health so any strong hit will take Frozen Hound out, think of it like a glass cannon it can dish a lot of damage but not take many hits back.

//And now we get to the moves...oh boy the moves. Due to its new stats, a lot more special Dark moves like Snarl and Dark Pulse can be learnt, as well as a lot of Ice moves like Ice Shard, Ice Spinner, Icicile Crash, Ice Beam, Blizzard and even Sheer Cold. But the real fear is that Frozen Hound can still learn the Elemental Fangs so Thunder Fang, Fire Fang and Psychic Fangs are still useable to it. And this is when Divine Luck REALLY comes into play since with a lot of Frozen Hound's moves, they cause flinching, and since it will be outspeeding a lot of Pokemon, you will be flinchhaxed to death if you aren't careful. Better bring a Pokemon with Inner Focus like Lucario to deal with Frozen Hound or else you will not get a single chance to attack! In terms of uliterly moves, it can learn Snowscape, Aurora Veil and some weird moves like Pay Day, Happy Hour and even Make it Rain...which is a odd move to have but oh well. But in all fareness you will be using its primary STABs and some Elemental Fangs to take advantage of the Divine Luck ability.

//Frozen Hound, like Herby Boxer is another chill Paradox Pokemon as long as you don't threaten its trainer. Its actually Emma's emotional support Pokemon as when she was attending therapy, her therapist noticed how Frozen Hound tried to make Emma calm down, and noting that many canine and feline Pokemon are used for emotional support, began training Frozen Hound to help assist Emma with her therapy, this even resulting in its evolution. Its keen sense of smell allows it to detect a whiff of smoke, a trigger for Emma, and if it smells smoke, it will try to get its trainer out of the area so she cannot breathe in the smoke and get a CTSD episode. And when she is having a panic attack, Frozen Hound tries to breath ice onto her in order to calm her down, its ice helping to numb the pain from her arms. It weridly gets on well with Herby Boxer despite the two having obvious type advantages against each other and its learnt to...tolerate Emma's puns. It comes with the package of being with her.

//That's all I have on Frozen Hound. Quite a CHILL Pokemon would you say? I wonder if a certain someone is gonna love this design for some reason...call it a hunch of mine. But we are getting through the Void Paradoxes and Iroha is next, and while her Pokemon of choice is obvious...the balancing is a nightmare and a half. You will see what I mean when we get there.

//Either way, I bide you farewell and leave you with the Shiny form which is not only under the cut due to DTFA spoilers but I thought this was gonna be a nightmare for me to do.

//This shiny I was really scared about since the colours of shiny Mightyena, my shiny colour scheme for them, plus the Divine Luck energy would be too much but it actually turns out quite nicely since the hues just blend together.

you're so good at creature-ifying characters 'n I was wondering if you have any tips :0c

When it comes "creature-ifying" characters, the best way I can describe it is to draw like you're drawing a half human half anthro. Since that's most of what I do, I just draw half anthros

Some example doodles of what I mean. When I'm designing twst characters in my au, the things I usually keep without much change is their head (maybe adding some markings, sharper teeth and a more animalistic nose if they're like a feline or canine, etc), torso, and hips (same as the head in maybe adding some markings).

While for the rest of the body, I design them as if I'm just designing an anthro. Is the character I'm designing going to have cat features? Well don't stop at just adding some ears and a tail, give them paws, arms and legs of what you'd usually see on an anthro cat. (Ofc you don't have to exactly design them like I do lmao, you can exaggerate them more or less, it just depends on taste and what you like really.) and if it's needed, do look up anthro artists you like and study how they draw their anthro little guys.

It also depends on what kind of creature you're designing your character as, are they a goat? Give them hooves, horns, etc. A bird? Feathers, wings (on their back or as their arms either works), talons, etc. A bug? (Depending on the bug) Wings, more limbs, antennae, etc. Merfolks are their own thing really, on land they're just humans with fishy scales and fins and sometimes a tail even.

Most of my rambling is on how I design twst characters that I based off animals, since most of the cast ARE based off animals with a few that are more like mythological creatures.

I also like mixing fixations together, if I like a character and think hey I wonder what would they look like if I mix them with a creature from a whole separate series. An example of that would be Azul, Azul is an octoling in my au, like from the game Splatoon.

If like animals don't fit, you can also take inspo from other series that have a mostly non-human cast, like Monster High or Monster Prom. Since both series have characters based on either mythical creatures or just straight plants n such.

I kinda suck at giving tips or advice but honestly the best I can is if you want to turn a character into a creature, do it, you have free will and no one will stop you. You have the power to do whatever you want to in art and character designing aheheheheh

Astarion sits beside you as though it’s just any other day. He’s got that damn suave smirk on his face - you can just feel it radiating off of him without even needing to see. You try not to visibly bristle and turn your head further away from him. It was best to just wait it out and maybe he’d finally suck up his damn pride long enough to apologize. Maybe.

“So, darling,” he makes sure to really emphasize the word, drawing it out sweetly, “in the interest of keeping myself in peak fighting form, I’m inclined to ask if you would be ever so kind as to let me dine with - or rather - on you tonight.”

You huff a dry laugh. Sharp, short, but lacking genuine amusement. You don’t say anything. Instead, you focus on patching up one of your shirts.

Astarion rubs his leg and checks that there’s no lasting damage. There isn’t, of course. Even your claws were mere pinpricks compared to what damage you could do with them, and you’d never willingly destroy his belongings, no matter how pissed at him you were. And even though you are pissed at him, he still can’t help but admire you.

You’re upset, but you’re not physically assaulting him until he apologizes. You pinch him, give him a little scratch - sure. But that pain fades, at most leaving a small mark that fades in a day. You’re so utterly, bafflingly kind to him. Even when he’s being a dick.

He reaches out and scratches just behind your ear. Your ear twitches, but otherwise you show no reaction to his touch. He sighs. “I’m sorry for insulting your handiwork, my dear. You know your work better than anyone, and I shouldn’t have said anything.”

Your tail continues flicking back and forth a moment longer. But then you relent. You turn around and press your cheek into his hand, which he gladly glides along your soft fur. I "like" SJM assosiates Archeron sisters with wolves. It was Feyre's thing at first, but then she used the same thing with Nesta, and I have no doubt Elain will be a wolf-girl too. You don't have to dissect the worldbuilding to see that SJM puts in minimal effort. Btw, the "Night Court style" books' design clearly shows it.

(was it necessary to invent 7 Courts if you are so obsessed with one? just divide the fairies only into "day" and "night")

Okay, Feyre, Nesta and Elain are sisters, but can't you associate them with different representatives of the same animal species? 🤔 Idk, for example, the coyote, the fox (a lot of them and all are different, take at least the fennec fox and the arctic fox), the jackal, the hyena dog belong to the same family - canines, and you’ll get tired of listing the felines - not only the lion, tiger and leopard, but also the caracal, lynx, puma, manul, wildcats...

And that's not even what's funny. We have three sisters-"wolves" and three "brothers"... bats. Biology is like: "Yeah, fuck me". ACOTAR characters obviously don't have a true-fae essence, but the animal-like one, and I already wrote how SJM wasted and screwed up with this potential too.

Fine, the winged threesome are not real bats, they just have similar membranous wings. But this crap with wolves is so lazy (what a surprise 🫢). Why the hell wolves? Of all the diversity of nature? Why not birds? It's not only beautiful, but also more metaphorical: birds are associated with freedom, there are suitable expressions like "bird in a cage" and "living in a golden cage". There are many birds of prey, and people have already come up with meanings for them: eagle - nobility, owl - wisdom, etc. Сome on, SJM, just use it.

Yeah, wolf as a symbol has a cool meaning: strength, independence, loyalty ('cause they are monogamous). It's just that if you, the author, make sisters with such different characters, who also have a hard time getting along with each other, it's probably worth showing their kinship through common difficulties, fears, dreams and fucking DEVELOPMENT OF SISTERLY RELATIONSHIPS, not this dumb shit like "Feyre is a wolf. Oh, Nesta is a wolf too. And Elain is also a wolf! They are so strong and loyal!". The level of depth of the charasters is a drawing in a kindergarten 🙄

And speaking of mating bonds, Rhysand and Cassian are not even close to being associated with wolves, not a single hint. You know who's really similar? He Who Must Not Be Named, ACOTAR version. The example of Tamlin's loyalty, turning into suffocating possessiveness, is a red flag, but Rhysand's loyalty, who is exactly the same kind of possessive, is strong love. "He does it because he cares about her, knows her better, is afraid of losing her" - shut up, this is the rhetoric of abusers. If you think about it without context, Tamlin and Rhysand are the same. The difference is that with Tamlin it's almost immediately clear that today he hit the table, and tomorrow it will be your face, and with Rhysand first there will be a feather bed, and then - a fucking web.

As for Feyre, her "wolfish" loyalty to her partner lasted less than a book and a half. Or if he's not 💫 a mate 💫, and she died (as a human being), it doesn't count? Nesta better not be so loyal to Cassian, just let that dumb overgrown puppy drool over Mor's beauty, jerk off and not bark until someone "most powerful" pulls dick out of his throat. And as for Elain... 😮‍💨 I don't need another book to form impression of her, and just because she raised her claws a couple of times doesn't mean she's a "wolf".

Living in the Canines of the mountain range is tough work with more aggressive species thriving in the harsher conditions. The only food available naturally is game.” (nothing grows up there 💔💔💔 but its ok!!! because feline beastfolk only need meat to survive anyhow)

His family (the Felostians [from feline and frost]) are known for their archery skills and their notoriously hard-to-find residence. Their family pin is a simple head with squinted eyes, similar to a Silvestratus’ Dragonstone. The Felostians are really only known to other Tundra residents, due to them rarely coming down from the Canines to either travel to the Undercity or buy potions.

The other pin symbolizes the Canines of Tundra where he was raised, the two mountains being the peaks, and the sun and moon representing the life spent there!!!

He’s a lynx/snep hybrid from the Canines of Tundra and his partner dragon is Permafrost the Silvestratus!! (His dad is a Lynx and his mom is a Snow Leopard, they both were also raised in Tundra. Ranger’s dad was the one who married in, taking his wife’s last name)

this page i drew from memory silvestratus-wise so hes not lore accurate 💔💔 but image him with snow leopard colors (the exact colors in-game are Brownie, Soil, and Creme)

BUT !!! All dev dragons/unbreedable in my lore are only accessible from being wild-caught because of this limitation. They also cannot be bred with another species 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

Ranger was lucky with his first dragon, with which was Permafrost. His family is extremely skilled in traversing the Jaws (the mountain range of Tundra; consists of the Incisors, the Canines, and the Molars), and were able to obtain an adolescent Silvestratus for their kid to raise. Both his mother and father have their own dragons, a Viridik and Alrenoth respectively. Dragon riding/taming is an important skill in the Canines due to the aggressive species residing there, and having a dragon of your own to fight back with.

so anyways Ranger and Permafrost are attached at the hip, and they both very much are little shits 2gether 💞

Permafrost is a very loyal, strong-willed dragon, and his constant care and training has led him to become a very powerful force, even for his species. He’s fast and he’s got one of the strongest bite forces, rivaling Chronos and even a Zinthros on a good day. His only downside is his defense, with his wiry frame and reliance on dodging. Permafrost’s speed allows him to get away with this glass cannon build, but fights are always tedious with large enemies.

Also (headcanon but not really) most Silvestrati move like snakes when they’re hunting, climbing, lurking, etc. which leads them to be seen as mysterious. Their market value is extremely high due to the effort it takes to aquire one from the wild, and their maintenance.

I gush about the speed/size of Silvestrati here, as well as the techniques of riding one, most importantly saddles. This species is extremely hard to gain the trust of, even more so with usually acquiring one at a later age, and therefore almost all riders you see with one have the saddle that wraps around the forewings. Not Ranger tho because we built different 🤑🤑

also YES in this AU/lore im writing there are 100% sayings based on species of dragons and their attitudes, “snarling like a Silvestratus” is a popular one to use when someone’s seething over something, especially a deal/trade 😎

also fun fact about Dragonaria in my lore, they celebrate your age by the season you were born in; Greenleaf, Brightsun, Deadgrowth, or Snowfall (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter respectively.) All of Dragonaria uses these terms, as they are less seen as parts of a calendar and more of a cycle. like, they dont have months, they just have a general idea of how many days pass before things begin to wilt. Because of every player having a crop plot in-game, the majority of Dragonarian families have this as well, which leads to the general knowledge of crops and seasonal changes in order to keep a good harvest. All realms have plots, though not all over the realm (i.e. the Canines.), so this leads to certain families not relying on farming, but instead hunting/fishing. Even the upper class is aware of these farming seasons usually, the only exception being the extremely wealthy who make their money off of dragons (selling or breeding) or potion making (alchemy). Those guys are RICH but they lowk dumb when it comes to “hey man how old are you”

Immaculate timing. Was just thinking actually that I'm leaning towards making my Punz design feline instead of canine

I haven't drawn them enough to be certain. Guess I'll just have to draw them way more to decide.

I think that months after Pandora's Vault, Dream thinks he has returned to some sense of normalcy. It's very hard for him to admit his true feelings, he copes by saying the torture "wasn't even that big of a deal".

He tells himself that he's fine or that he will be fine. Doesn't matter what he's feeling now. He doesn't have the tools to properly cope with this trauma yet.

Punz sees that. Punz is also very withdrawn when it comes to showing emotions. They won't call Dream a pookie bear but they'll show their love in gestures, small and big.

They make sure Dream knows that the door is open for him to talk about his experience at any time. But when he can't bring himself to talk about it, or use words at all - they will meet him there. They will make silence comfortable, interrupted only by their purring.

They don't always need words to let Dream know he's not alone.

Summary: First part of letters to her. I recommend reading the prologue first.

Note: Here it is! First part of the letters to her series. This is super short, I was struggling to figure out what to write for this letter, but I promise the rest are better. I am also trying a new writing style. Enjoy!

“Oh my.”

“What is it?”

Y/n managed to misplace her necklace—yet again—turning what was supposed to be a delightful date into a search mission for the elusive piece of jewelry.

Kaz was grateful she had agreed to getting some food and dining in. The past week had been a whirlwind of meetings with everyone in the forsaken city, leaving him overwhelmed. He'd endured an excessive amount of handshakes, enough to last a year, maybe three.

But Y/n understood. After all, she had been by his side since he could remember, never passing judgment on him for anything.

"Love?" He called out again. Kaz despised the silence. It could only mean two things: something good or something really bad.

“Y/n?” Usually, he was the type to lean towards options that gave him more than a fifty-fifty chance.

“Y/n!”

“Yes! Sorry I just-“

He found her in the dining room. “What is it?” As he approached, he noticed she was holding something in her hand. However, before he even had the chance to ask about it, she turned, fully facing him with her hand extended out.

"This," she said, glancing at what Kaz now recognized as an aged letter, "happens to be the first letter you ever wrote me."

She cleared her throat, preparing to read the letter to him.

“Deer Y/n,”

“For fuck’s sake.”

Kaz remembered that day with as much clarity as he remembered his lunch from a couple of hours ago.

It hadn't been anything out of the ordinary, no. Yet, he remembered it nonetheless.

“What is the matter with you?”

"Deer." He pointed at the word that was meant to be 'dear'. "Are you not reading?"

“I am and I’m well aware of the fact that is says deer. Once again, what’s the matter with you?”

“Can you put it away, it’s embarrassing.”

“Kaz, you were five.”

He had indeed been five, and apparently, not the brightest when it came to spelling. However, he laid the blame on his dad, who assured him it had looked good enough to send.

“How do you even have that still?”

“I could never lose it.”

“It’s just a letter, Y/n.”

“The first letter I ever got from you.” She corrected.

“It’s still just a letter, Y/n.”

“Whatever Kaz. It’s my most priced possession.”

He could tell she intended to keep reading the letter, but as her mouth open to let out the words, he noticed a mischievous glint in her eye.

“That and the drawing, of course.”

“The drawing?”

“The drawing.”

Kaz really had thought that it couldn’t get worse. Of course he hadn’t needed her to read the letter for him, so he had more than enough time to realize just how bad his grammar had once been.

But then, she decided to turn back around to grab the drawning and show him.

“I miss spots.” she said. In truth, he shared that sentiment. Spots had been his first and only pet.

He had entertained the idea of getting another pet with her. Perhaps another feline, or a loyal canine. Maybe even a crow. A replacement for the family he knew he couldn’t provide to her. “He was a great cat.”

“Indeed. He had to put up with you everyday.”

“I-, You know what? Same goes for you.”

That laugh. He was convinced that her laughter was the only force capable of resurrecting him from death. That and her eyes, of course, especially when they sparkled with mischievousness.

“Wait! Look,” Before he had a chance to see what she was pointing at, she covered the letter with her hand, completely defeating the purpose of asking someone to look.

“I am trying.”

"No, wait. Before I show you, you know how you always ask why I always sign: Love, my name, and then an exclamation mark with a heart instead of a dot?"

If he was honest, the question about her peculiar signature had crossed his mind only a couple of times. However, with the letter concealed and her mischievous grin, he wondered if uncovering the reason was a journey worth embarking on. “Mhmm...”

“Look!” She said while pointing at Kaz’s - or, well, five year old kaz’s signature. “Look, look, look, look, look.” Kaz couldn’t help but smile at her excitement, but he still couldn’t fathom why she was making such a fuss over his childhood attempt at penmanship. “Sweetheart, I am looking.”

There it was, his old signature in all its glory, proudly proclaiming, "Love, Kaz!"

I was born in a small town just off the coast, where I spent most of my puphood roaming the beaches and forests, and generally causing havoc in the fields nearby. Nobody ever really questioned my connection to nature, because by then I was already seen as the 'wolf pup' in the family - especially by my father, who called me his wolfchild on the regular.

My identity is psychological and physical in nature. It's a big and important part of my life. I usually use the term 'holothere' to describe it, but I'm also cool with just 'werewolf' In day to day life, I don't often let my canid side show, but I'm working on socially transitioning so I can finally drop the act.

I'm also POSIC! I'll talk about my companions in a later post, but they're as much an important part of my life as being a dog is. Respectful questions about anything welcome!

Please be patient with me when it comes to uploading, replying to asks, or messaging back in dms. I'm mentally ill and working full time at the moment, so trying to juggle everything at once can be a challenge. So... as an Audhder with special interest in videogames and animals, those two things may overlap once.

Just for fun, I'm using one of my favorite visual novels to gush about animals, much like a game theory episode.

Two disclaimers before we start. Even tho I'm very interested in zoology, I'm not an expert, so it's very likely I will make mistakes. Secondly, I'm not a native English speaker, so there's a chance I'll make your eyes bleed with bad grammar.

By the way, trigger warnings:

Animal mating behavior and genitalia. Predators and hunting. Carnivorous plants.

If you're uncomfortable with that, skip this post in its entirety.

Adam is a spotted hyena.

Adam is cat coded.

Cunning perceptiveness, playful taunting, antisocial behavior...

He's the human equivalent to an angry cat.

Except, this man doesn't take breaks.

Felines are carnivores focused on precision rather than resistance. Their strikes are deadly and expertly calculated, but they don't have much stamina. As a result, they generally need long periods of rest.

But this man is built like a fucking train. Adam is relentless, and he doesn't even look tired while chasing their target to the ends of the Earth.

That determination is usually attributed to canines.

Then, how come he has both the cat-like feel and the endurance of a dog?

That's when it hit me. Hyenas.

Spotted hyenas are the most dog-like members between the felines. They're tremendously intelligent, and utilize planning and deceit to get their way. Unlike other hyenas, spotted hyenas aren't scavengers, but hunters. Much like canines, they can and will hunt their preys to exhaustion.

Also, they live in matriarchal societies, which reminded me of Adam's undying love and respect for his mom (presumably).

Also! Also! (And this is specially rad). Hyenas are literally the embodiment of consent. Why? Well, female reproductive organs have evolved to look similar to their male counterparts. The advantage of this is that, to mate, female hyenas have to retract their pseudo-penis to create an opening. Which essentially means, mating literally can't occur without consent. In other words, forcing copulation is physically impossible for hyenas.

(cough cough *male hyenas are subs, even if they outweigh their partners* cough cough)

Who said that!? Anyway.

There you have it. Adam is a spotted hyena. I cannot unsee it, and now you can't either.

Mermay season. If Adam is a tiger shark, then Saffron is a great white shark.

For Mermay, the creator of the game posted a beautiful drawing of Adam as a tiger shark.

(Which, by the way, has a lot of similarities to a hyena, starting with the spot patterns on their tail, that look very much like the fur of a spotted hyena. Another similar characteristic is their diet. Surprisingly varied, they will go after anything, really. Much like hyenas. Both are the "predator garbage eaters" of their respective ecosystems).

But this section isn't about tiger sharks as much as it is about Saffron.

If we look at the ranking of recorded fatal shark attacks, tiger sharks are really high up, only second to the great white shark. Which is odd because, even if either encounter is extremely rare, white sharks tend to be more curious and swim near boats and surfing areas, yet tiger sharks are up there in the rank right behind them. This leads me to believe that, under the same circumstances, tiger sharks are more likely to attack you than white sharks.

I find this comparison really fitting for the dynamic Adam and Saffron present in game. While Adam is the very first predator you encounter (tiger shark: more opportunistic, less selective), he's much easier to dodge than Saffron, who's much less likely to confront you himself, despite roaming around and studying you curiously, but once he's in court, you better pray (great white shark: less opportunistic, more selective).

Appearance-wise, white sharks and Saffron are also alike. Not only cause of the albino hair, that matches the shark's white belly, but cause of their pointed snout, which is considered an elegant feature.

Their hunting style is also similar to Saffron's, generally stalking their prey from below, to later launch a surprise attack that tends to be fatal on its own. I compare this to his bad end, in which he attacks YOU from behind, leaving you completely defenseless thanks to a powerful anesthetic.

In conclusion, we have found ourselves a deadly shark duo for the next mermay. Adam the tiger shark and Saffron the great white shark.

YOU are a Venus flytrap and Adam is doomed.

In literature, the femme fatale refers to a character (not necessarily a woman) that relies on seduction to bend their victims to their will.

YOU are at a disadvantage. Your opponent is larger, stronger, faster and more experienced than you. Much like insects, they have a set of tools and freedom of movement you simply don't.

How do you survive then?

You need to turn your opponent against themselves by messing with their biology.

The traps of the Venus flytrap are covered with a delicious nectar.

One sip of this nectar, and it's over for their prey, fly or otherwise.

Even if the insect doesn't trigger the trap at first and manages to flee, they will return on their own volition.

This is due to the addictive nature of their taste, that works like a drug. As insects enjoy their meal, they get increasingly wobbly and uncoordinated.

And the more they linger, the more drunk they get, until it's only a matter of time the flytrap honors their name.

As you can see, these plants are the eco-friendly version of the femme fatale.

They beckon their meal closer, with a promise of such sweetness that makes their judgement hazy, and before they realize it they're already too deep.

I think Adam would agree this perfectly represents YOU, even if you're only acting this way to escape the serial killer.

To further resemble the first encounter between YOU and Adam, these traps don't close on impact. They have a timer. A set of sensory hairs that signal the trap to close shut if an insect brushes them twice or more in the span of 30 seconds.

Their resources are scarce, so they play the waiting game and rely on precision in order to survive, for striking without the field secured could lead to their death.

YOU need to be patient and make sure Adam is intoxicated before stabbing him the first time. YOU play with your words and remain vigilant on any opening available to make your move. YOU rely on confusion and purposefully ignite strong emotional reactions on your opponents to take advantage.

YOU play the part of a Venus flytrap, that learned to lure and manipulate in order to make it when all the odds are against them.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

It's even better, because you aren't competing against an insect, but with a human.

And humans are social creatures.

This means, attachment is a key factor of their condition, and they can't get rid of things they're attached to.

And Adam is no different.

The more time he's around YOU, the more attached he will become.

This essentially means Adam can't hurt YOU without hurting himself in the process.

Just the thought of YOU fading away has him recalling memories of his mother's passing, and we've seen the impact his nightmares have on him.

If YOU died, Adam would be physically incapable of acting normally. He would start to slip up, behave erratically or lash out. He could be potentially forced into therapy, but recovery would take precious time Saffron can't afford to lose. Not to mention the irreversible hit to their reputation.

Worst case scenario, another member of the band could be replaced. But the main singer? Impossible.

In summary, it's only a matter of time both Adam and Saffron realize hurting YOU would mean the end of CAKE, which would ultimately grant your survival.

On the downside, YOU will have to deal with Adam "hunting" you for the rest of your life. And just because you're safe, doesn't mean your friends and closed ones share the same luck.

@silverhart-makes-art (link to post here) gives us these Definitely Mammals that are rather difficult to classify. I always enjoy this effect of "it doesn't really look like anything, but it looks like it would fit in as a reasonable animal design." There's substantial additional information about these critters in the linked post.

@coolest-capybara (link to post here) has drawn something delightfully bizarre, and I really enjoy both the design and style here. Again you may find additional information in the linked post.

@citrvsdrake (link to post here) was inspired by the description of the Gerzlaem pulling food back out of its stomach -- apparently this is a frog behavior, so we have the very frog-like feline you see before you. That is an unsettling face to have staring at you, but it is a clever decision I think.

@cheapsweets (link to post here) has decided to draw all three types of Gerzlaem even though the entry only actually describes two of them -- they propose that the third type is just intermediate between the other two. I also need to acknowledge the "scorpion" in the back there; excellent. For a detailed explanation of this image, please see the linked post.

@pomrania (link to post here) has doodled various elements of the entry for us here, and seems to have settled on a canine interpretation. I'm... fascinated by what's going on with that ape there. Some of these are very expressive too. More about all of these in the linked post.

@wendievergreen (link to post here) posits that the three different types of Gerzlaem are the same animal in different seasons, and has drawn this goat/cougar creature in various stages of wooliness. I think this is a good idea, and the art style is pleasant. You can get more information from the linked post, though an explanation for the song lyrics is not included.

@strixcattus (link to post here) has drawn us some dog-like critters which I can't type too much about because I saw their post right after I posted this one and now I'm hurriedly editing. As usual, there's a naturalist-style description in the linked post that I recommend checking out. Good dog-things here all around.

Now, to the Aberdeen Bestiary...

...actually we don't have a picture for this one. And it's not a missing or damaged page this time -- there isn't an illustration for this one in the Ashmole Bestiary either. It's the first entry in the bestiary, and I guess the fancy initials used up too much of the illumination budget:

Of course, this is a long entry, so they could have put the illustration on the next page, but I don't want to backseat-scribe here. Here's the one from MS Bodley 764, though, so we can see what it looks like:

Yep, that's a lion all right.

The lion is typically the first entry because it has that "king of beasts" reputation -- bestiary authors and others in the intellectual tradition of the time took the idea of some sort of animal hierarchy seriously and made sure the lion got pride of place. I think it's a Great Chain of Being thing, but honestly I just haven't done enough research on that whole concept to speak on it in an informed manner.

A lot of the rest of the entry is allegory, but some of it seems to just be nonsense of its own tradition. I suppose the lion's tail does look something like a brush, so I can see the steps there, but most of it I could not explain. This includes what exactly this thing is supposed to be:

gonna piggyback off of that confession about animal ears and tails and fur and paws on objects for a bit. this is a bigger thing i notice beyond ii fanart and it's certainly a pattern courtesy of the whole internet, but i just don't think there would be as many cats/dogs/foxes/wolves as all the artists make them out to be

this is a non-issue against shit that matters but i'm honestly kind of burnt out on seeing the same old animal looks on everyone. like i get that it's easy to draw and it brings in all the furries but i don't even think this cast is a quarter felines and canines and the other common fursona species

like paintbrush has hooves. suitcase has an exoskeleton. cabby has a pouch. lightbulb has a shell. balloon bloats like a frog. knife has talons. fan has wings. tea kettle has a trunk. tissues has wool. i saw art of bot, the most obviously butterfly-themed character of the entire show, drawn as a mouse and i spat out my drink. there's so many of you ii artists and you're all bejng beat in the creative biodiversity department by one cast drawing of animated inanimate battle

Wesker? More like Whiskers, am I right?

Haha! This is Wesker from that Resident Evil furry AU of mine. It doesn't show that much, but he's a persian cat. He's a persian cat because he is a major... erm, villain? Persians are oftentime the type of cats villains have in cliché spy-type media, and they're often associated with luxury and luxury is often associated with mean people. You're rich, you're mean according to some media's logic.

I guess, since he's my 5th entry or so in this AU, that I need to mention that it's on purpose that there's a lack of variety and that everyone is either a canine or a feline.
