okayyy things i loved about ofmd s2 today's edition is!! FRENCHIE. what a guy. first off, joel fry, i'm free on thursdays. second, love that he gets promoted to first mate, tries to decline, & IMMEDIATELY disobeys his mad new boss to try and help izzy. he reaches out to izzy a lot tbh and of course frenchie and jim together are the litmus test for how we're meant to feel about izzy.

but frenchie is affectionate with izzy! holds izzy's hand in e1 while fang hugs him, leans against his leg in e3 while they're in zheng's jail, goes back for him in e8 when ed is carrying him forward. i think he grows up a bit esp in the first few episodes & helps his crew at the end (go frenchie!), setting him up to the captaincy at the end.

now that i look back over the series with an eye on frenchie i think they do lay a groundwork for his captaincy - not only does he become ed's first mate but he also has a functioning coping mechanism (a lot has been made of the compartmentalization as frenchie not handling shit but compartmentalization is a legit mechanism and i think once the crew is all back together frenchie gets his shit together pretty fast so u know just bc we don't see frenchie having appropriate outlets doesn't mean he doesn't have any) that would allow frenchie to take a step back and make decisions without necessarily reacting from fear. this is what enables him to fend for izzy!! he can put aside the fear of ed and ask himself, what is the right thing to do? take care of the crew.

other things that slid past me in the first few watches but which i think were more significant than i realized:

in ep 3, when the revenge and the red flag meet, the crew looks to frenchie to answer stede's questions about ed.

auntie talks frenchie (authority) and fang (soft, cultural connection - this is a deft bit of manipulation that totally works btw) aboard the revenge.

frenchie delivers the verdict against ed exiling him from the ship in ep 4 - it can't come from stede, because stede is compromised where ed is concerned, and so instead frenchie is their spokesperson.

we get one final clue as to frenchie's authority and respect among the crew in the post-ep scene of ep 8, where frenchie slips out of the jail - yeah, it's partially because he's thin enough to fit through the bars, but other folks who could fit refuse. he gets the courage up and does it, and it works! he frees the crew!

so you know, i guess i didn't instantly clock frenchie as captain in the final shots of the revenge, but it also didn't ping me as weird that he was giving orders. he's grown a lot over this series. notably, oluwande doesn't take on this sort of active role this series - his arc is a little different with zheng and jim now, his priorities are changing, and he doesn't want to captain the revenge, he wants to follow zheng. just because olu would have been the obvious choice in s1e10 doesn't mean things can't change! olu didn't want to be captain then, he doesn't want to be captain now. that's okay!! the crew have found another leader amongst themselves!!

i'm really excited to see what kind of funky cool badass jacket-wearing captain he'll make in s3!!!

Late at night, the Thousand Sunny drifted peacefully under a blanket of stars. The gentle rocking of the ship kept the Straw Hat Pirates lulled in a deep sleep. Everyone, that is, except for Luffy and you.

You were sitting next to him on the deck, the night air cool against your skin. The only sounds around were the occasional creaks of the ship and the soft lapping of the ocean against the hull.

"Y/N, you know, I think I could eat a thousand meat skewers in one sitting!" Luffy said with a wide grin, his eyes sparkling in the moonlight.

You chuckled softly, shaking your head. "Luffy, I believe you could do it. But how would you even fit that much food in your stomach?"

He laughed, the sound warm and carefree, and you couldn't help but laugh along with him. The way he made everything seem so simple and joyful was one of the many things you loved about him. For what seemed like hours, the two of you exchanged jokes, stories, and silly banter. Luffy was on a roll, saying the most random things to keep you laughing. But as you waited for him to crack another joke, his expression softened. His gaze settled on you, and the intensity in his eyes caught you off guard.

"You're really pretty, Y/N," Luffy said suddenly, his voice quiet, but sincere.

You blinked, a little taken aback by the shift in tone. "W-What?" you stammered, feeling your cheeks warm as you processed his words. "Why would you say that all of a sudden?"Luffy rubbed the back of his neck, his usual confident demeanor now tinged with something more thoughtful. "Well, Nami and Robin were talking to me the other day. They said that when I described how I feel about you, it means I’m in love with you. And I think they’re right… 'cause I’m always thinking about you, and I like being around you more than anyone else."

Your heart skipped a beat. Hearing those words from Luffy, who was always so focused on his adventures and dreams, made your chest tighten with happiness. You glanced down at your hands, fidgeting nervously, trying to find the right words to tell him that you felt the same way. "Luffy, I… I feel the same," you began, your voice barely above a whisper. "Maybe even more than you could imagine..."

Before you could finish your sentence, you felt a gentle touch on your chin. Luffy had leaned in closer, lifting your head with his hand. Your eyes met his, and in that moment, the world around you seemed to fade away. Without another word, Luffy closed the distance between you, pressing his lips softly against yours. The kiss was simple, sweet, and filled with all the emotions you both had been holding back. Your eyes fluttered closed as you melted into the kiss, your heart racing in your chest.

When he finally pulled away, Luffy's smile was the brightest you'd ever seen. "I think I like kissing you too," he said with a chuckle.

• a lone half-orc captain with a cursed sword but no ship or crew walks into a bar, sees two anxious looking humans in the corner: a scrawny woman with a grumpy face and a scrawnier ginger with a towel to his recently broken nose

• seems easy enough.

• girls night!!! they steal their first boat

• rule #1 of stealing methods of transportation is that you should watch out for blue tieflings stowaways trying to get as far away from a recent problem as possible

• back on land they loose beau (got got by the soul ☝️😔), caleb gets locked up in a shady storage while looking for her and there he meets nott the brave

• fjord's first response upon seeing a goblin following his navigator is to pull the sword on it

• nott's first response upon seeing some green dude shove a sword in her face is to pull her crossbow at him

• they look up and down for beau, but she finds her way back to them eventually

• still, they'll need more hands if they want to keep their totally legally owned ship afloat

• still on land, The Circus Plot happens and they acquire two more crew members 🎉

• molly loves the ocean, yasha likes the wind

• all of them like to go up to the crow's nest and bother caleb, nott more than the others; eventually he stops hiding up there so much

• yasha starts getting anxious about her unfinished business at the same time jester stars getting anxious about their clothes not being pirate-y enough

• they lose their first ship (of pristine papers as long as you don't look at them in the light) and have to travel on land until they manage to borrow a new one without asking it's owner and with promises of never returning it

• they also lose molly :(

• but they get caduceus :) who's not very keen on being in a boat for long periods of time but he'll adjust

• one thing he'll have in common with the cat

• fjord has a problem: The Voices in his head telling him to get back on the water

• jester has a conundrum: they got all of these nice, proper pirate outfits but now they have no ship

• she did get frumpkin his very own little coat

• in the night, as the mighty nein crew wispers around two pushed together inn tables, a cloaked figure approaches upon hearing they are in need of help

• dezran, or dez, for short, for friends, an inconspicuous sun elf from, you know, around these parts, who is in dire need of work and oh would your captain be so kind to-

• insight checks fly around the pushed together inn tables

• but all of them know each of them is running from something or someone, and not all of them have a destination in mind, so really it's not like they're going to ask.

• plus nott thinks she saw a really nice boat on the dock with it's lights all out

• cue the guy running from stealing things having to steal things

• cue a disguised drow's inventory slots full of the strongest sunscreen balm he could find this side of the continent

• maybe caduceus or jester finds out first, around when ess- dez, for friends, got a little too reckless and a little too hurt some time or other

• but the wildmother shows caduceus a lonely star when he asks, and artagan hasn't been paying attention, and anyways that's dez, that's right, their friend who has been nothing but helpful and fun, if a little skittish depending on the weather, and who always tries jester's pastries

• besides, far from him being the only person with a fake identity at the function. he's not that special.

• when fjord and beau find out, they're suspicious, but they won't make him walk the plank. there's protocol for that.

• yasha is not one to question someone running from their past

• when nott the brave finds out, she doesn't ask what he really looks like

• when caleb widogast finds out, during a siege on the ship, he grabs essek's arm and sees the drow underneath the disguise, and wants to know who are you, but circumstances are that later, they'll talk about this later.

The Charm Of Chastity by PaddlesPetwixtPuddles - no idea if the author is on tumblr. Sad fact: this is the ONLY Guardian fic they posted. It's perfect.

Kunlun's Godly Seed, Shen Wei's Ghostly Body by @lacommunarde ⭐- Idk how many times I reread this one tbh, but around 5-6 for sure (as some others from the same author, one day I'll comment in all of them jksjkskj HELLO I LOVE YOUR FICS)

All the ships I actively interact with (read/write/art) were brought to my life by Marron, she put me in the Weilan Derivatives hell jksksj. As for my DMBJ ships, the adaptations did the trick, so there's no fic to mention (but Marron also mentioned Heihua and I was OH 👀?)

Across the Stars (Qi Heng/Xun Xu - this ship is SO SWEET) - Star Wars AU, but it's Weilan Derivs (I need to finish reading the fics of this ship)

and THE FIC - it's so good I better not start to talk abt this fic I'm a gremlin abt this fic and YOU KNOW THIS FIC bc I think the whole team read it, Vince said it's better than books so yk what it means: The Thousand Flowers Manor (Hua Wuxie/Pei Wende - and we also have Qi Heng/Xun Xu there!) It's Pride and Prejudice in Wuxia times, how could that go wrong in Marron's hands? I'd recommend it a million times, watch some youtube to see the characters if you don't want to watch the shows/movies and go read this fic, you'll laugh, cry, be angry, hunt demons in Ancient China and have lots of dramatic relatives messing things up. It's a true delight. Happy Ending :D

Totally agree re: your last mclaren post. They could have had a legitimate cross-media star with Daniel and instead they’ve got an unlikeable little pr-nightmare twink with no brain-to-mouth filter and Oscar (lol love ya Oscar but he dgaf to do all their promo).

Even if the car was still terrible, if they’d worked enough with Danny to get it to a point where it was easier for him to drive (mind you he still dragged that shitbox to their first win in a decade), they could have also leaned more heavily into his personality/marketability to make up the gap. Even Renault, for all their faults, knew what they had with Daniel and were ready to dismantle the whole team and rebuild it around Danny - they just didn’t have the time/money to do it.

In short, mclaren once again display their absolute loser-mentality

i mean id love to jump on the mclaren slander train any day of the week but first of all you have to give it to them for promoting themselves with daniel's popularity but at the same time keeping a distance from his persona/brand so when they threw daniel under the bus they were able to detach and cut ties just like that. pretty much came out unscathed. i think mclaren was way more comfortable with lando being their poster child for this reason

from what i know about the mclaren cars, they were just not a fit for daniel's driving style at all. and while it's true good drivers should be able to adapt, the mclarens were one of the most temperamental. to make their car balanced enough for both daniel and lando, mclaren would've needed to make a lot of progress with car development, something they never had the $$$ for. with their automobile sales targeting a market exremely susceptible to economic setbacks, mclaren's finance took a BIG hit due to covid, right before daniel came aboard. in fact the reason they suddenly became so much faster mid way thru 2023 is bc right now they're financially solvent for the first time in years.

looking back i think it was just a very stupid decision for mclaren to sign a very expensive daniel when they didn't even have enough money for daily operations, let alone making cars that could meet daniel's needs. and then it was just plain hateful that since they didn't want to admit to their incompetence, they tried to gaslight daniel into thinking it was all his fault (he ended up really thinking that despite obliterating his driving style to work with mclaren).

obviously i think daniel's team was also to blame for entering the partnership but a) back in 2020 he didn't know whether renault f1 would still exist so he kinda had to jump ship and b) knowing zak brown and mclaren's corporate ways i think some empty promises were definitely made.

let's dive in.

we open with the line "lying in my bed again, and i cry cause you're not here." you're in the upside down, you're possessed, you're spending all your time with el, you're in california. they're ALWAYS separated, there's always something pulling them apart. they can't be with each other. "put your hands inside my face and see that it's just you," cause their existence is so informed by each other. constantly on each other's minds. "thinking back on how things were and on how we loved so well." i mean. C'MON. "i wanted to be the mother of your child" ok that's not byler EXACTLY but listen listen listen, dreaming of a future together? playing nintendo and dnd in their basement for the rest of their lives? "put your hands in my hands and come with me, we'll find another end…my head on anyones shoulder cause i cant be with you": basically they are dreaming of a world where everything is easy, where they can be together, but they know that's not the real world. they'll seek other comforts (el, losing yourself in your art, etc) to try to fill the hole in their hearts (y'all know there's more nuance to the el situation but i don't feel like typing all that out lol) dolores o'riordan's wailing is a great expression of the despair of seemingly unrequited love, while the upbeat fast paced drums invoke that teenage-first-love genre feeling through the song, we have dolores assuring herself that she cannot be with this person. its almost like shes trying to convince herself that there's no point to feeling this way bc they're NEVER gonna be together. but she ends with "but i'm still in love with you." there's nothing she can do about it. she can try to deny it all she wants, but its a simple truth. she loves them. they love each other.

2. wicked game by chris isaak.

this is the most stranger things ship coded song ever imo. doomsday love? soulmatism? reluctance? disbelief? wanting something different? HELLO? byler?? lumax?? jopper?? jancy?? "i've never felt this way... i don't wanna fall in love...the world was on fire and no one could save me but you, its strange what desire will make foolish people do, id never dreamed id love somebody like you..." is this song about being upset that a relationship is over? yes. which works for byler! but i think its also about loving intensely. its about looking at the tragedy of existence and saying, your love saved me. i feel so much, and i feel so sad because you mean so much to me. it says, without an ounce of real resentment, how dare you make me care so much? thus we establish from the jump JUST how much they care about each other. how important they are to each other. the song end's with "this world is only gonna break your heart" over and over again, which sets up the tragedy we're abt to be feelin through the rest of this playlist. all aboard the angst train!

3. fade into you by mazzy star.

we're back on that hand holding imagery shit we say in i can't be with you. "i wanna hold the hand inside you." i miss how close we used to be. "i look to you when i see nothing, i look to you to see the truth." -> you have always been the grounding presence in my life. there's a double meaning here of looking to the other person to see the "truth", being that they're never gonna love you like you love them. "fade into you, strange you never knew." its strange you never knew i was in love with you. how much i cared for you. (and if we're talking mike pov, strange you never knew before i fucked it up so bad.) "a stranger's light comes on slowly, a strangers heart without a home" we're strangers now OWWW. i am a stranger to you now, and my heart doesn't have a home.

4. does anybody know by jade bird. do i even have to explain?

pre s4 separation. very sad. california sunshine + s4 heart to hearts in the sun + the colors in you can hurt someone? something something will's painting and the rain fight and their ability to hurt each other.

5. graduation day by chris isaak.

a reflection on what used to be, and an attempt to move on. an attempt that will fail (see: further sad pining songs later in the playlist) "driving slowly, watching the headlights in the rain" - rain fight, will biking away. "think of the good times, wishing you were still with me, the way it used to be.... a million dreams have all gone bad, think of all we had...thinking of a time with everything was right...with only you and i..." HELLO??? once again, the theme of "i miss the way we used to be" makes a reappearance. "i knew it all then, thought you loved me, i was wrong.... learned my lesson now there's nothing left to say." what if i committed mass murder. i knew it all? hello michael. we've also got the theme of growing up. graduation day. they're getting older. on one hand, this could mean them graduating to the big leagues, the final fight. the end of everything is coming. they're almost at the finish line. on the other hand, they could be reflecting on "graduating" out of their childhood feelings and comfort, making peace with the fact that they're older and they don't get to go back to when everything was right.

6. please, please, please, let me get what i want by the smiths.

this song is so simple, and so direct, and so. so. so. sad. its a reflection of how much they love each other. this....this is all i want. he is all i want. my life has been so hard. i could've become a bad person, and i didn't. and that doesn't mean im owed anything. i know that. but can i please get what i want. this is the only thing that i want.

7. there's no need to argue anymore by the cranberries. just....just read it.

highly recommend listening to this song because all it is is vocals and an organ. it is so reflective and soft and introspective. its simple. a simple truth. (i mean you should listen to the whole playlist but yk)

8. boys dont cry by the cure, but covered by I DON'T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME.

yall already know the drill lyric wise cause. you know. it's boys don't cry. so, im just gonna talk abt why i picked this particular cover. it feels younger, a little less professional, a little more intimate. i love the cure version, but this one just feels...i don't know. it feels like the emotions of a teenage boy.

9. i know its over by the smiths.

this one... oh god. the first verse is "oh mother i can feel the soil falling over my head // and as i climb into an empty bed // oh well, enough said // i know its over, still i cling // i dont know where else i can go." something abt will's relationship with joyce and mike's relationship with karen. something about knowing their relationship with each other is over, knowing that and still not being able to stop thinking about each other. we get a sweet little nod to mileven in verse 2 "sad veiled bride, please be happy, handsome groom, give her room." yeah. if we're talking will's pov and substitute "she" for "he", this line is fucking killer: "loud, loutish lover, treat her kindly. [talking to el now] though [he] needs you, more than [he] loves you" OW and then this whole part.... mike's self hatred is just so chefs kiss.

anyway. this song is mostly just there for vibes. its sad. most of the playlist is sad. yk. it doesnt fit perfectly but pls tell me yall understand the vision.

our penultimate track. its about letting go of expectations, thoughts of who you should be and what you should do, and realizing how much you love someone who you let yourself lose. realizing that you're young and you've really messed up, but realizing what you want and seeking forgiveness. it's mike's realization. its a healthy reflection on how he's hurt the people he loves, and what he really wants. who he wants to be. it's mike growing up. he's willing to give up the trivial shit, the judgement of others and himself, to be with will. not even to be with will, just to let himself love will. there's this line, "maybe i'm just too young to keep good love from going wrong //...you should've come over ... well i'll wait for you." he wants will to come back. he knows he's lost will, and he knows its his fault. but he's telling will, "listen. i know you don't owe me anything. but im here. im here, okay? if any part of you still wants me, or even if you don't, im here."

like boys don't cry and iris, i chose this cover because it feels softer, subtler, and more masculine. its acoustic, youthful, lighter. stronger. do you guys remember the opening line of the playlist? the first time of i can't be with you? What The Heck Is Antikythera?

i didnt know what this was and it seemed somewhat important since it's in the title (lol) so I looked it up.

one of the first things I found was the wiki article for the Antikythera mechanism, which is basically a computer/calculator from Ancient Greece that predicted astronomical positions and eclipses. It was found in a Roman shipwreck in the Mediterranean in 1901 and might have been constructed as far back as 205 BC. (it had gears and everything! cool!)

Considering this device is related to astronomy and approximately, oh, ALL of our protagonists are interested in and have connections to astronomy, I don't think that's a coinkydink! additionally, since this is fictional and there are no limits, mayhaps the Antikythera mechanism is a part of the story and it can do (and does do) more than predict celestial events...? 👀

Now, I admit I read about this one interesting thing and kinda just ran with it, but in case there's anything else about this itty bitty little island, I did look into it more. According to the Wikipedia, Antikythera was settled and abandoned several times throughout history. This is also where the wreck with the mechanism was discovered (hence the name), and apparently lots of birds use the island as a pit stop during migration, but that's about it. It's enough for me to laugh shrug and carry on with my mechanism theories, lol.

The Ellen Austin, The Bermuda Triangle, & Maybe A Ghost Ship

Since our beloved quartet is confirmed to be aboard the Ellen Austin and they're en route through the Bermuda Triangle/Sargossa Sea where the Ellen Austin is said to have encountered a ghost ship, I'm gonna continue with my previously-held theory that we're getting a ghost ship encounter! (In one story about the Ellen Austin, they had some of the crew go onto the ghost ship to bring it back to shore with them, and the crew ~mysteriously vanished~ which is... interesting. 👀)

I have a few ideas about what this potential ghost ship might be:

An Ancient Greek vessel straight from Antikythera, with or without a mechanism, but probably with. [squints at map] I mean, the Mediterranean isn't that far from the Sargossa Sea/Bermuda Triangle area. And/or maybe there was some time-and-space nonsense happening that could land it on the other side of the Atlantic. If our quartet could get poofed from a satellite in 1835 back to Earth in 1881(?), then a mysterious ship could plausibly get zapped to another place and/or time. Might be a bit too on the nose but c'mon, the name is in the title, there's gotta be a connection to Antikythera, and who says it can't be this? Could also have ghosts!

A slightly less ancient Roman cargo ship like the (shipwrecked) one that had the Antikythera mechanism. (Please see above for hand-waving about date & location.) Maybe the ship has a mechanism on board, and maybe it's also got ghosts—both of the Ancient Greek variety via the mechanism, and of the slightly less ancient Roman variety via it's their dang boat. Bonus points if the Greek/Antikytheran(?) ghosties were scaring the daylights out of the Romans and are responsible for the ship becoming a (double) ghost ship. Of course this also hinges on how literal the "ghosts" in The Ghosts of Antikythera are, but I'll ramble about that in a little bit.

A much less ancient ship from whatever eras make it more likely to be in the Sargossa Sea, but it has an Antikythera mechanism somehow. This would take out a lot of fuss about how the ship got here or how it could have survived this long without being wrecked or discovered, AND it would bring up new and fun questions such as "why does this random ship have an Ancient Greek mechanism" and I call that a win-win. Could be a classic pirate ship, could be a newer vessel that'd be more familiar to the crew of the Ellen Austin... idk im not a boat guy but I think there's some fun possibilities.

bonus theory: the ghost ship has "witch" in the name or has a name related to witches, or maybe literally just has "wicked" in the name, purely based off this tweet:

Just 'cause, you know... wicked, witches. The waves could be just part of the water theme since (i assume) the episode takes place predominantly at sea, or perhaps the ghost ship is literally carried "this way" by the waves.

Ghosts — Like, Literally? Or Do You Mean Metaphorically?

We already know that Pulp Musicals will be exploring multiple genres—sci-fi, horror, mystery, adventure—so I'm betting episode three will add some horror to the mix, especially after Matt's delightfully ominous words in the trailer:

In this web of mystery, Margaret has begun to unravel her own... but she is not the only one awakening. And soon, our heroes will find that the light of discovery can bring forth shadows darker than anything they could have ever imagined.

...Yeah, sounds like horror and/or ghosts to me! So maybe the ghosts of Antikythera are real actual spooky scary spirits, in which case I am very excited to pull up a chair and listen to Herschel scoff and try to find a rational, scientific explanation for any spooky happenings. (Idk if he believes in ghosts or not, but in this case I hope he doesn't because that will make it much funnier for me. <3 )

On the other hand, "horror" is incredibly vague, so maybe we won't get jump-out-and-say-boo ghosts at all. Maybe the ghosts of Antikythera are more unsettling because they aren't an active, supernatural force wreaking havoc on the open sea—maybe they're just an empty vessel, forgotten memories, and the lingering consequences of the actions taken by people who are long since dead. What's scarier—the dead staying behind to screw with you face to face, or the dead abandoning their troubles & mistakes and leaving clueless strangers to get stuck with the deadly fallout?

Honestly, tho? I'm excited either way, and I'm very curious to see how scary Matt plans to go.

Theories That Don't Have A Ghost Ship, Because You Never Know

I am 100% behind the ghost ship theory, but making theories is fun so why not throw some other ones out there. Full disclosure, I don't think these are that likely, and some are mostly gonna be for laughs.

They find a shipwreck. I'm really only considering this because the Antikythera mechanism was found on a wreck. I don't think the Ellen Austin would stop to investigate a shipwreck if they happened upon one, and I also don't know if they'd even have the equipment to safely or effectively investigate it if they wanted to. Then again, maybe they would stop if they saw the wreck go down, and also who needs to go down in the water if you have a passenger with magic powers? If Margaret could launch the Sagitta, she could probably fish up a wreck easy peasy. Maybe she wouldn't even need the ship to stop, she could just see (or sense?) something in the water and reach out with the Radiance. And if whatever she brought onto the Ellen Austin was haunted, then that could kick off the ghost stuff... huh. I actually kinda like this idea!

Atlantis? I think someone mentioned this in the chat for the trailer's premiere. I'm inclined to say "probably not" though... unless the quartet gets poofed or otherwise summoned closer to Greece. But I think they'll probably be sticking around the Sargossa Sea, since there isn't a lot of time for them to be traveling all around in a ~90 minute episode, and the previous episodes kinda picked a place and stayed there. Doesn't necessarily mean we couldn't get an underwater city (or formerly underwater city), of course. It just probably wouldn't be Atlantis.

...I actually don't have any other ideas right now, lol. I really think it's gonna be a ghost ship. And that the Antikythera mechanism has something to do with it.

Oof okay, for the sake of my eyes and brain, I'm going to stop staring at my phone and thinking for now, lol. I will probably come up with some more thoughts & theories as time goes on, but I think I have used all my batteries for today.

The dog's name is Mutt bc that's all Izzy calls him and by the time the crew found out and wanted to try calling him different names, the dog was kinda attached to the name Mutt so..

He's a rottweiler/lab mix (for now). For historical sake, if you want, we can just say a rottie mix. Labs weren't bred til the 1800s according to a very shallow google search.

Izzy didn't plan on asking Ed to keep him, or keeping him at all actually. Mutt followed him, and probably snuck aboard. We thought it'd be funny if Stede and Olu found him since they probably wouldn't know about the whole "no pets policy" thing Ed has. They bring him to Ed and are like "hey look" and Ed's like "wtf, get him off the ship" but somehow, Mutt runs off, finds Izzy and vavoom or something.

Loving the idea that Ed would be convinced that Mutt is a pure bred killer, which is why he allowed him to stay, only to watch him smother some of the crew with kisses and cuddle every fucking day

Izzy and Ed both are literally perfect for the "dad who said no then became the dog's best friend" thing just thought I'd point that out

Wee John or someone sewing him up a bandana so he "looks like a scary pirate dog" <3

Frenchie is excited bc dogs chase cats away, but Mutt just makes friends with other animals so..

The only one who's able to actually ignore the puppy eyes tactic is Buttons. It just feels correct. Izzy and Ed almost can. Almost.

Mutt has to wait outside Jackie's bar when they're there. One of the crew always stays with him.

Really liking the idea of "dog" being a negative term from Izzy whilst "mutt" is somehow more positive so the name wasn't bad in his eyes

Normally sleeps besides Izzy's bed, since Izzy was the first one he got attached to and kinda the whole point of this AU of sorts, but sometimes he sleeps with the crew or Stede. Izzy won't let him stay with Ed alone quite yet, juuuust in case.

Izzy lets him sleep on the end of his bed, most of the crew lets him sleep curled up with them, and Stede doesn't like to let him sleep in his bed for fear of fleas and dirt and etc etc, but also there's no way in hell that man can say no to puppy eyes (I mean look at s1 Ed)

Izzy (maybe partnered up with Stede) tries to train Mutt well, but unfortunately Frenchie and Roach like to "untrain" him in a way, or train him in ways that aren't so Izzy-approved.

Whilst Stede reads to the crew, Izzy reads/tells stories to Mutt.

It takes a while for Mutt and Ed to warm up to each other but once they do, they're homies. Ed still treats him like he can be a beast but learns not to push anything. "Go fucking kill that crab over there and I'll have Roach make you something real special." "No? Alright fine. No treat for you. Just regular food..maybe a singular treat for your effort."

Lucius turning Mutt into a little model, Wee John and them making him different little clothes to wear for said modelling, and somehow they convince Izzy to sit long enough to be sketched with him once and probably only once. Fang likes to sit and hold him whilst being doodled.

Jim and Mutt having little chats after raids and stuff. "Captain says your a born killer. Same." Mutt can't answer but they know he's listening as much as he can.

That said, Mutt is 100% most of them's personal therapist. He doesn't understand human problems nor has the ability to give them advice, but it's nice to talk about things anyway. My friend is a massive Stede fan so ofc they had to offer up Stede crying but hugging Mutt so it ends up being a good kinda cry. And honestly yeah I dig it.

Izzy's 100% worried that the "no pets policy" is gonna suddenly come back and likes it best when Mutt stays with him bc of it. This is a feel good AU, obviously, but angstwise, Mutt could totally be used against Izzy and the crew.

Fang definitely teared up finding out Mutt was staying, but got attached immediately and 100% wants to help Izzy protect Mutt.

For some reason, Stede gives off "has a pretty bad dog hair allergy, would hug a dog anyway" vibes, so that's something we like to joke about. "Your face is a bit puffy there, Bonnet." "Oh yeah, I'm terribly allergic to canines." "You what?" "I said I'm terribl-" "Get your face out of his fucking fur you absolute twat!"

Mutt likes to roll in mud when on land and some of the crew probably think "why not join him" every single time. Who? Idk. But some of them.

For the most part Mutt is an absolute sweetheart, but Izzy is his dad, and he's a fast learner. 100% acts all vicious whenever Izzy's feeling aggressive (but it's mostly an act and he just kinda idly stands by Izzy like "yeah I'm tough shit too" then goes back to acting like a puppy the moment Izzy shuts up).

apocalypse in space au! your choice of fandom

apocalypse... space... my two FAVORITE things to au. im doing pla naturally (5 things that would happen in an au)

so the obvious thing to me is "apocalypse on an alien planet" since apocalypse generally implies the end of A World but wait we're just describing subnautica. so what about... apocalypse on a spaceship? or space station. whatever. big space construction that people live on u get it. so you've already got the difficulties of living on a space station—needing to keep life support systems on line, managing the mental struggle of being trapped in this manmade structure—and then there is some sort of an Apocalypse. perhaps zombies. those are always fun.

actually better yet new idea we divvy the cast up btwn different spaceships/stations, and this is a whole society of people in space-traveling crews... and then this zombie virus starts slowly, slowly spreading through any ships that make contact. docking with another ship/station is always risky bc you never know if they're safe or not. imagine boarding a ship and wandering around and coming to the slowly dawning realization that everything's cold, and quiet, and empty. nothing's running that should be running, even the engines have gone silent. you're standing in a grave drifting through the abyss... and then you hear footsteps...

i think the central point of the au is the galaxy team, who are a spaceship crew maybe doing long haul transport? like the people in alien. and the clans are stations in a similar point in space. and everyone's simultaneously trying to manage this threat, working together as the only safe survivors, but simultaneously never sure if they can trust the other two

AND THEN the galaxy team finds an escape pod drifting through space... with protag aboard.

kamado's afraid they're infected. actually very fair. however they were kept in quarantine for a long while without anything happening, so...? they get let out and conscripted into keeping the ship in working order, but he's still very suspect of them

...especially bc they may or may not be the source, but they were the most recent person to arrive before other people started showing symptoms. all 3 groups have been incredibly cautious thus far and were able to immediately catch it, so the spread is very slow so far... but it is spreading.

suddenly laventon's group is under even higher pressure to find a treatment or cure. and protag is expected to help. naturally. they're probably the only ones consistently visiting both stations for research purposes actually. so you get that "meeting & bonding with the wardens" vibe in there

"Technically, if they want to stay, we can still call them hostages," Pete says, moving by them with another bag of chips. "So, you guys play metal? We've never robbed a metal band before, believe it or not."

"Hostages might work," Ed nods. "Can anyone smell...what is that?"

"Oh, our ship was sinking before you guys found us," the drummer, Pickles, remarks. "We were actually building a float out of Klokateers when you boarded, so ya know. Really good timing, all that."

"Is your extremely polluting ship sinking right now then?"

"Where else ams it goings to go?" a snort from their lead guitarist, a Swede named Skwisgaar who kept giggling with The Swede exclusively in Swedish. "Dis guys. You ams on the waters with a sinkings ships, oh, dids it sink? Into the oceans? No ways! Douchebags."

"Don't kill them yet," Ed gently pats Stede's arm, reaching for a knife. "We can get a ransom for them first."

"Yeah, basically."

"Okay...wanna hear about how we took down an aircraft carrier?"

"What it meant back then," Izzy supplies. "That you never take time for yourself or anyone you're with-"

"As if you didn't do the same, away for months at sea!"

"We're doing this? You really want to do this now? Fine then, let's dredge up everything!"

"I don't think we're getting the ransom," Stede interjects. "Maybe we could work out something else? Izzy, please stop flipping him off. Izzy. I get it but-okay, Mr. Offdensen please don't do it back. Please-oh good god."

"You guys ever shoot each other out of these?" Pickles raps a knuckle on one of the cannons.

"No," Wee John replies. "But we should have! Frenchie, do you think-"

"All we need is someone willing to try," Frenchie interrupts excitedly. "And who might fit."

"I got the perfect guy," Pickles smiles. "Toki! Come down here, we need you for somethin' important!"

"Okay," Izzy sighs deeply. "We're all adults here so let's just go over it quickly. What did we learn?"

"That just because Toki fits in the cannon, doesn't mean we should fire him out of it," Pickles rubs the back of his neck. "Sorry about that."

"Oh no," Izzy frowns. "No, I meant we know now that we can shoot people pretty fucking far in our cannons without them dying. That's an excellent new technique."

Frenchie's eyes light up. "He's not even hurt, aside from the water bruising him when he hit it."

"I would likes to does this again," Toki, covered in spent gunpowder, coughs. "But withs paddings this time."

"Experiment away," Izzy smiles. "We might not have to kill you guys after all."

"That's fucking sick," Nathan examines the knife. "And now you're gonna kill all the motherfuckers that are left?"

Jim nods. "Trying to, at least. In between everything else."

"Fuckin' metal. Got any other cool shit like this?"

"No one showed you the weapons room yet? It's a mess, but, come on. You gotta see the cannons too."

"In exchange for your safe return," Charles says. "I've agreed not to press charges and to assure them immunity and legal assistance for any and all of their future crimes."

"Seems like a lot," Pickles frowns. "And we're playing a show on here that you're gonna broadcast because...why? You got someone on here you're gonna fuck so they let us go?"

"It's a mistake, but not one I'm making because of that," Charles mutters, seemingly meant for himself by the way he blushes. "Um. Anyway. I'll be flying out shortly with your gear. See you soon."

"Okay," Pickles says. "Who do we think he's fuckin'? I got my money on Izzy or Stede."

"That ams stereotypicals," Skwisgaar scoffs. "But it ams Izzy. He and I fucks in the jams room earlier, and he mentioned it."

"Wait, you fucked Izzy? When?"

"Like twentys minutes ago, keeps up."

"Huh. Okay, well then. Good for you, both of you!"

"Charles."

He's still hot. Of course he is.

"It would be," Izzy continues. "Improper of me to ask this so soon, in the cabin my captains usually use. Had the biggest sturdiest desk."

Charles nods and bends himself over it, casually opening his belt. "I'd like to test that for myself. If we're planning to use it while we negotiate any final terms."

Izzy locks the door to the quarters, and starts unlacing the front of his leather trousers. "We're on the same page then."

Charles whips around as Izzy approaches him and pulls him in for a kiss. His trousers slip to knees, but he doesn't care.

He tastes just as good as he remembered.

"So. One of your current partners is fucking our manager," Nathan coughs. "Um. That's a thing."

Ed nods. "I can hear it. I'm not bothered by it, by the way, I just...I don't know why, but I would never have pictured them together."

"After he fucked Skwisgaar," Nathan says. "I didn't think they were serious about them having..."

A loud and delirious moan of Charles' echoes.

"They're serious," Ed chuckles. "Very serious. And loud. Wait, Izzy too? Who hasn't your guitarist fucked on here then?"

"Probably everyone. Pickles is right behind him though. I haven't really been interested in everyone else aside from talking but uh...you and your other boyfriend...since Izzy is busy, would you maybe be interested-"

"I think he would be," Ed gently lays a hand on Nathan's. "Should we go find Stede and ask together? Maybe give Izzy and Charles a run for their money noisewise?"

Nathan nods.

The show is loud, enough to shake the ship like constant cannon fire.

But it's amazing.

"And you really can assure our immunity?" Izzy shouts over the music.

Charles nods. "You have no idea what I've covered up in the years since we dated. You could kill anyone you wanted, any of you on here, and I could make it go away without even thinking about it."

Izzy pulls him in for a kiss, and decides not to ask if it isn't also to have reason to occasionally visit.

He already knows it is; Stede drew a little heart on the day marked 'Iz/Ch/us!' on their calendar.

I was wondering, whenever you get the chance, could you please write something where the reader is working late and thinks they're alone, so they're singing and dancing along to music while working (like, just absolutely jamming lol) and someone -maybe Fives, Rex or Echo, up to you bc they're all my loves and I can't decide- Walks in on her without her realizing, and just what their reaction would be because they've only ever seen her act very professional before this lol (this idea is brought to you by this exact thing happening to me except it was my boss that managed to sneak up on me and I screamed 😂) sorry if this is super specific lol. So this one popped into my head and I couldn’t not do it once I got the idea of how it plays out. It gets a little therapeutic towards the end (because when does my stuff not, clearly I use this as a chance to work through things so tell me to stop lol), but overall it’s still fun. Secrets

It was late, ridiculously late.

You had long since stopped looking at the time written on the wall because it would only make you more stressed since you were pretty sure your next shift was set to start in only a few hours. But you were on a roll and were used to getting little sleep at this point.

Kix was constantly on you about sleep and despite your constant brushing off of his worries, he was relentless.

So all you had to do was make sure he didn’t find out.

But knowing that Jesse had a weakness for a candy you could only find at a little store on Coruscant, you had someone on your payroll to make sure that didn’t happen.

Echo also for some reason was weirdly invested in how much sleep you got. It was very sweet of him, you had to admit, but you weren’t sure what it was that had him so riled up when it came to your sleep schedule (or lack thereof).

Either way, as long as neither of them found out you were still up, you’d be just fine.

After all, these reports aren’t going to finish themselves.

The sound of your tapping filled the small office space you currently occupied. There were a few desks for some of your fellow officers, but those desks were empty as it was the middle of the night. Technically you weren’t even supposed to be here, but insomnia was a bantha.

You had a small radio perched on the corner of your desk.

You’d found it while on leave, fixed it up with your limited tech knowledge, and brought it here. Everyone loved it and enjoyed the music while working. It helped keep things moving and gave them something to listen to rather than the clicking of data pads and the hum of the ship.

It wasn’t necessarily allowed persay, but you never spoke a word about it and neither did your fellow office mates. The radio was most often tucked away, especially when there was a chance of an officer walking in, but it was a small act of rebellion that really didn’t cause any harm.

Music was quietly pouring out of this radio, making you feel like you were back in school, studying for an exam and not aboard a star cruiser in the middle of an intergalactic war. It was almost peaceful.

You set aside another piece of flimsy and began writing on another, quickly moving through your large pile of work.

It was at this moment that a song you recognized began playing.

Your reaction was almost instantaneous.

You gasped loudly, thankful no one else was around to hear just how obnoxious and piercing your squeal was. Work was promptly forgotten, at least for a moment, as you pushed your chair back and jumped to your feet. You turned up the volume dial and began bopping your head to the music, picking up your tall water canteen.

The radio may be small, but kriff it could get loud when you wanted it to.

And right now, you definitely wanted it to.

“In the night, I lie look up at you. When the morning comes I watch you rise. There’s a paradise they couldn’t capture. That bright infinity inside your eyes.” You sang obnoxiously into the canteen, swaying back and forth.

The song launched into a language you didn’t speak, but that didn’t stop you from trying to sing along, spinning around your desk and motioning to the invisible audience you were performing for.

The chorus hit and you bounced up and down, practically screaming the lyrics. “Never-ending forever baby! You! You are! My universe! And I! Just want! To put you first! You! You are! My universe! And you make my world light up inside!”

As the song continued, you moved all across the room, draping yourself across desks, dramatically throwing yourself against the wall in time with the words, and just dancing away.

The last time through the chorus began and you resumed your obnoxious dancing. “We are made for each other baby! You! You are! My universe! And I! Just want! To put you first! You! You are! My universe! And you make my world light up inside!”

The music lulled for a moment and you froze along with it, waiting for the drop. When it came, you hit it exactly, bouncing and dancing along with it.

This was what you needed.

About two minutes and forty seconds to really just let yourself go and reset. To just shed the professional persona and be you.

The music faded and the radio DJ began talking, naming the artist and song before going into some celebrity gossip. You let your arms fall to your sides, slightly out of breath. Your hair was a mess and you felt much more sweaty than you’d like, but it was definitely worth it for the warm, free feeling tingling from your fingertips to your toes.

Then someone started clapping.

And it was like a bucket of cold water had been dumped down your spine.

You froze, unable to turn to see who had somehow entered the room without you realizing. Your eyes squeezed shut as you winced.

Kriff this was embarrassing. Mortifying actually.

You’d never recover.

Please let them have only just walked in. Please Maker.

Knowing that at some point you had to face the music, you slowly turned, already dreading that by some rash of bad luck, your boss would be standing there, or worse Captain Rex.

But oh no.

It was much worse than that.

Echo looked positively giddy as he stood by the door, lowering his hands from clapping as he looked at you with a grin on his face.

“Wonderful performance. You really nailed those lyrics. Even I believed you spoke that language for a second.” Echo chirped and you felt your cheeks warm.

Kark. He has been there for a while.

You were in big trouble.

“Relax, I’m not going to report you to Captain Rex.” Echo said as he strode further into the room, turning down the volume of the radio when he got close enough. “But I would like to know why you’re still here when I know you have a shift that starts in three hours.”

You bit down on your lip.

There had to be a way out of this.

“Don’t even think about saying you lost track of time.”

Kriff. There goes your excuse.

“Look, I-“ you started, eager to explain yourself but Echo just sighed and rounded the desk, placing his hands firmly on your shoulders and leaning forward.

“Don’t bother. I know you have trouble sleeping so that’s why you stay up here most nights.” He said quickly and you felt yourself start to shrink under his gaze. “I know that you stay up late because then you can go back to your quarters and sleep for a few hours. Because then you actually can sleep right?”

It was hard to listen to someone get a read on you so well. You were always careful, trying to make sure no one got too close to see the faults you so very clearly had. Echo had been an exception.

And clearly it had paid off. At least for him.

“Listen. I get it. I do. But you’re going to make yourself sick if you keep doing this. So, I’ll let you keep working later than your shift usually entails-“ he said and your gaze snapped up to his, but he barreled on, “-but I will be coming to escort you to your room no later than midnight. Understood?”

You blinked at him. “But-“

“Either you agree or I tell Fives all about your dancing.”

You blanched. That truly would be a death trap. Once Fives caught wind of this, he’d never let you live it down and he would make sure every trooper on this ship knew it too.

You absolutely could not let that happen.

“Fine.” You said through gritted teeth and Echo had the audacity to grin at you, giving your shoulder a squeeze before straightening and letting his hands fall to his sides.

“Great. Now shut down your data pad, I’m walking you to your quarters.”

You let out a loud, obvious sigh before slowly doing as he instructed.

If he was going to be like this, you absolutely could be a nerfherder about it. Make him regret it.

Except he didn’t comment on how slowly you moved, even if it was completely obvious what you were doing. He just watched with a soft expression on his face.

When you finished, he offered his arm and waved his other hand with a flourish. “Shall we?”

You stared at him and he just smiled back. You rolled your eyes, feeling your cheeks warm as you brushed past him and headed for the door. Echo caught up with you quickly as you exited, surprising you by scooping up your hand in his.

You looked up at him with wide eyes but he didn’t pay any mind, giving your hand a squeeze.

“Don’t want you running off.” He supplied and you were once again struck dumb by him for a second time that night. Your stomach was swirling and it was hard to think of anything else besides his hand clutching yours like he really was afraid you’d run off.

In fact, before you knew it, Echo had come to a stop outside your quarters. “Get some sleep. I’ll see you at breakfast in the morning?”

You nodded once and he gave your hand another squeeze before you turned and opened up your door, hand suddenly feeling empty.

Before the door could shut, Echo stepped forward into your space, dropping his head and his voice. “You really are a great dancer. And I hope in the future you’ll maybe teach me a few things.”

Your mouth opened and closed a few times before Echo smirked at you, stepping away and practically skipping down the hallway.

“Breakfast! Don’t forget!”

He disappeared around the corner and you remained in your doorway, completely dumbfounded at how the night turned out. You shook your head to get rid of the thoughts before stepping into your room.

You definitely weren’t sleeping tonight.

And it had nothing to do with your racing thoughts and everything to do with a certain ARC trooper with a smirk that had your heart racing.

Maybe this wasn’t the most embarrassing moment of your life. Maybe instead it’d lead to something great.

Only time would tell, and you couldn’t wait to find out.

Bloody hell…. I didn’t even realize until you pointed it out, anon! For a second, during the whole Shiori’s debacle last week, after reading their arguments about how we’re racist/colorist if we don’t like Shiori’s light skin even if we are a POC ourselves, it got me thinking “Is it true? Am I in the wrong here? Am I actually being colorist for disliking her lighter skin? Can’t I accept her just like how she is (portrayed)?”. So, if you think that what they did is considered as gaslighting, then yeah their strategy kinda worked. But then I remembered that it’s all Sunrise’s work. I don’t have a faith in them anymore because they even butchered Inuyasha’s character in his OG series. So, no, I decided that I wouldn’t let even one word of theirs to affect me.

The whole loli, shota, racism, colorism, sexism, right to the xeno-, religio, and gay &/ trans- phobia is a tough nut to crack because it’s us, the offended-slash-affected consumers, vs the animation/movie studio and their loyal-to-death fans. What makes it hard is that we can always find people whom being the main target in the pro team. For example, in Shiori’s case discourse it’s not simply white vs POC but it was POC & white vs another POC & white people. Another example, in the campaign against lolicon and shotacon, there are always groomed teenagers (along with their adult groomers) that defend those things. So, it’s hard because we’re being face-to-face with the kind of people that we wish to help :(

So, yeah, it is sad and disturbing 🙂
