Shout-out to Cassandra Clare for appreciating the intimacy of characters calling each other by their full names when everyone else uses a nickname for them

There is a theory that the way children play serves as a means to simulate and prepare them for the tasks they'll take on as adults. So for all the narrative weight both Jinx and the story give the boxing machine at the arcade it would never have prepared her or the kids to take on Piltover.
Tumblr media
What are the two things that Piltovans excel at over their Zaunite counterparts to keep the hierarchy? Weapons and technological development.
Tumblr media
When you look at the way Piltovans invest in their children, they don't prioritize hand to hand/melee combat training. Piltovans focus on giving their children experiences in handling firearms, a pursuit that is both leisure sport for the wealthy and a key offense against dissenting Zaunites.

And from the show notes even Jayce, whose family occupies the upper middle class, was sent on educational excursions across Runeterra to explore the world and learn what it had to offer. Without Jayce's education abroad he would never have been inspired to pursue the concept hextech.
It's no wonder that the two figures that are set to be Piltover's biggest threats from Zaun are Jinx and Viktor, becasue they engaged in the same kinds of games and activities as their Piltovan counterparts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jinx didn't have an entire forest preserved to help her practice her sharpshooting like the high houses of Piltover, but she did excel in the few games at The Rift (the arcade) that built on her talents. She's the only Zaunite thus far who's long distance offensive is a strong counter to Piltover's forces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Viktor couldn't travel the world like Jayce did, but for better or worse he managed to stumble into an opportunity to get real opportunity in research not offered to his peers through Singed. It was through that experience that Viktor knew to turn to Singed when he was at the end of his rope, and the consequences of that will be fully realized in season 2.
Tumblr media
Ironically, the kind of skill the boxing game champions is only good for keeping other Zaunites in line. Vander's days of fighting Piltover were way behind him when we first met him, and Vi spends season 1 primarily fighting other Zaunites. It's no surprise the Zaunites who embody the old ideal of strength in Zaun that the game portrays, Vi and Vander, are largely at the mercy of Piltover and end up collaborating with them to avoid further harm.
Zaun's future as an independent city-state couldn't happen if they stuck to their old ideals. The people who stand a chance against Piltover are the ones that not only succeed but excel at playing Piltover's games against them.

We were at a very small local farmer/craft market.
One stall was selling home made glass coasters.
The person who made them think they made one set of coasters of mars
But I am enlightened and knew it was not mars
it was the planet Klendagon.
And so I bought the Klendagon glass coasters.
And now I own the unofficial Mass Effect Glass coasters of the planet Klendagon, which has a massive scar across it from an attack by a reaper millions of years before the events of the game.

that feeling when your biggest comfort character at the moment is someone who had 5-10 minutes of screen time in total, got cancelled 2-5 times by the fandom and died in the most hamster-like manner possible
(on the flip side they’re really pretty (beautiful red hair, big blue/gray eyes, adorable freckled cheeks and nose, equally kissable-looking asymmetrical lips, cute scottish/glaswegian accent, slightly reminds you of a 19th century postman/soldier in the “peanut patrol” uniform), is skilful and dedicated to their their job (espionage), and the lack of their backstory info actually makes them more mysterious, adding to the charm, and which makes you constantly wonder and want to know more about them (how was their childhood? their parents/caretakers? how did they exactly grew up and were moulded to be the loyal servant of the warmongering empire? will we get any hints in the spin-off show? is that their real name? are even those freckles/hair/eye colour real? only gods and amanda overton can possibly know)

my cringefail autistic babygirls nine and ten in the style of "doodles i'd do during class back when they passed out actual physical worksheets"
turns out if you set your procreate pencil to 60% opacity on accident, the graphite effect becomes a lot more believable. who knew!
[Image ID: A digital drawing of the busts of the Christopher Eccleston Doctor and the first David Tennant Doctor in profile, facing right and left respectfully. they are offset vertically, and the style mimics that of a traditional graphite pencil on computer paper; the background sports slight texturing to reinforce this. both doctors are wearing their traditional outfits. each has text written next to them, saying 'nine, last of the Time Lords, the one who loved' and 'the one love bore, Time Lord victorious, ten' respectively. / .End ID]

I don’t think we talk enough about how different the finale and opening are, despite it being the same words that start the song.
In the opening, Pony tells the audience he’s “never been out of Tulsa before, I wonder what it would be like” because it’s true. He’s doesn’t know what it’s like beyond his small town. He’s quietly hopeful that it’s better. He dreams of leaving for good but he’s brought back down by his own statement that “I’ve never known anybody to leave, most people get stuck here for life” because that’s also true. He watched firsthand as his brother’s future crashed and burned when the cops showed up at their door. He watched his oldest brother, the one everyone thought would get out and make a new life for himself, get sucked back into Tulsa by forces out of his control. So he can’t let himself hope, at least not completely.
In the finale, Pony tells the audience again that he’s “never been out of Tulsa before, I wonder what it would be like” but this time it’s not completely the truth. He did leave Tulsa. He just didn’t do it on his own terms, he was forced to run away. He’s reflecting this time, reflecting on what he dreamed of a few weeks ago and how his reality was so far from that. He doesn’t want to consider the abandoned church to be him getting out because that means he needs to accept that that’s what the world is like out of Tulsa, bitter and burning. He can’t accept that because Ponyboy still is, at his core, a dreamer. When he then says that “I’ve never known anybody to leave, most people get stuck here for life” it’s truer that it ever has been. Because he now has two friends who are buried there. They’re buried in a town that despised them with no hope of ever getting out. So while that line used to be a reminder of something so many failed to achieve, Pony now uses it as motivation. He uses it to remind himself that he has to get out, he has to do it for everyone who can’t.
