The rounds are getting rougher, I can see you all struggling on who to vote for in some cases. But, before the results, let's talk about something else.

Magia Record has announced it's shutdown. That's really a shame, I like seeing new puella magi. But now I'm wondering if I should have just waited a few days and started this series when I could get good art of Shi. I didn't wait because 1. I thought it wouldn't matter (Yu is proving that point wrong) and 2. because I thought there might be more releases afterwards and thus waiting would mean little. While it's too late now, I do wonder how the matchups would have changed.

The first time you and Sun met, he thought you were actually a kid-! Being the responsible daycare attendant he is, he picked you up and immediately brought you back to the daycare!

Only when you've started speaking, with the tiny voice of yours, he understood how mistaken he was! Nonetheless, with the bubbly personality he has, he managed to open your introverted self up a little, and you two had quite a good time in the daycare.

Except if you went around throwing things! Or tried to turn the lights off...

You were quite the duo - you were fairly quiet most of the time, acting as if you weren't even there, letting Sun do all the talking. And oh he loved it! He was a little protective over you still, because even knowing your age you looked so frail to him!

When you got a bit more acquainted, he immediately noticed how much you seemed to get in the tunes of music. And then he found out why - because you were keen on dancing! He was overjoyed! He immediately got into it and encouraged you to dance with him. You were both having fun, blasting the music loudly and just dancing like two sillies.

The other thing you two liked to do was play dressing up! He'd either look trough your clothes and try to make outfits out of them - he's trying his best! - or he'd get you some of those Freddy Merch shirts and let you try them on! There's nothing better for him than seeing you having fun.

He's a little worried about the fact that you don't seem to eat a lot. He cares for you very much, and sometimes may try to persuade you to eat. Some yum pizza, or other treats from the Pizzaplex?? He'll bring those right up!

And because he cares so much.. he's a bit worried he might hurt you, accidentally of course. He knows you may be in danger when Moon takes over, so he took his time to thoroughly explain to you why you should be careful with the lights, and what to do if he switches to his evil side. Your safety is a must for him! But still, he does his best not to turn the mood off to much, and keep you entertained!

Overall, Sundrop is a very sweet partner! He'll light up your day, make you fall in love with him - and babysit you, if you'll need!

Personality- So I'm autistic, have trouble with certain social queues and expressing emotions. It actually caused a lot of problems growing up but I've gotten better about it now. I cry when I get mad because I never learned to express being angry in a healthy way. He struggled to determine if you were sad or if your face was just reading sad.

Halsin is just as awkward himself. Though he has lived for hundreds of years, it is hard to keep up with all the changes that come with that.

When he started developing feelings for you, he was very timid about expressing them. Though love is natural and part of nature, he didn't want to frighten you.

When he found you crying one day because a villager upset you, he was as wild as a bear at that moment.

He stayed back to comfort you but gave a piece of his mind to spare you the argument when you were elsewhere.

Halsin tries hard to help keep the peace among the others, especially after seeing you get overwhelmed by a fight that broke out between La'zel and Shadowheart.

When he confesses to you, he rambles. Because you don't say anything, he thinks you now hate him, so he rambles more. Once he lets you get a say-in and you confess back, he's the happiest ever.

You had been tending to the animals near the camp. Though you were soon to leave this area and venture further through Faerun, you wanted to make sure the little friends you made would be okay. You heard giant footsteps approaching behind you as you doled out nuts, berries, and some dried meats for the creatures. Turning gently so as not to frighten away the creatures, you find Halsin also helping tend to the animals.

His love and care for the world around him was so sweet to you. He was a fantastic man who flawlessly met your and the group's needs. Sometimes, you wondered about letting him lead as the new group's leader. Halsin had already turned that notion down since you were more than capable in his eyes.

Once the creatures were tended, Halsin walked up to you. He gently placed some fallen hair back in its intended spot before gently cupping your face. He was always so warm and protective, which helped put you at ease through this whole ordeal with the mind flayers. Nuzzling into his hand and smiling up at him, Halsin gently placed a kiss on your forehead. You two embraced this soft moment before the next battle took place.

So, I want to expand a bit on my philosophy for tournament bracketing, which I covered earlier.

I created the bracket with the thought to maximize participation value across all contestants, rather than to represent the strongest contestants. (Honestly who cares if your ship is more popular?)

This does mean the bracketing really favoured mid-sized fandoms (joshneku, griffguts, silverflint) and allowed them to advance when they're more obscure than some of the behemoths (catradora, thoschei, akiryo, komahina). This also meant that many finalist materials were pitted against each other and eliminated in round 1.

My thought process is like this. The contestants of this tournaments spans multiple genres. I want to make sure that every participant get at least one chance to make a meaningful decision before their pair is eliminated.

(I didn't choose to seed any pairings into a future round because there's honestly too many strong ones and that's probably a good thing cause I was pretty wrong on a few cases when it comes to what's actually popular.)

Before this tournament started, I did two* small surveys on how people vote. When people only know one character in a match, ~34% will vote for the ones they recognize, and ~54% will vote for the ones they recognize if they think they really deserve the title. This means 88% of the participants won't really make an effort to know the other contestants, which means if I pair randomly, most participants won't make much of a decision at all. Everyone will just vote for whoever they know until two people they know gets to face off.

*Other survey is on how people vote when they know neither characters.

That would be dreadfully boring if you're into major ships, and very sad if you're into obscure ships.

This is why I decided to pair up overlapping fandoms and genres for round 1, hoping to maximize the number of people who knows both sides of each poll. (Some were pairing up the spares. Sorry Shadowpeach fans I don't know what I could have done for you.) For people who had trouble making a decision, they'd at least still have one horse left to bet on for future rounds.

And this means the more obscure ships like curtowen and silverflint either has a fighting chance, or can at least be defeated by a pairing the voters actually recognizes instead of being auto-eliminated.

For the most part, I felt like I did good with the matchups. There was no 90/10 sweeps in first round, which i know some people wanna see, but I don't. I'm an underdog believer.

The only mistake I felt like I've made while seeding was pairing NagiReo against SatoSugu... I genuinely thought they'd be equally matched in terms of popularity. Maybe it should have been narusasu vs. satosugu and 10051 vs. nagireo... I don't think that'd have felt better tho. Hindsight is 20/20.

Finally, I want to talk about my favorite tournament bracketing from an old school shonen, the Demon World Tournament Arc from Yu Yu Hakusho. Basically, major powers of the demon world decided to form government around a free-for-all fighting tournament instead of waging a war. However, leaders of the three major factions ended up facing off and exhausting each other in earlier rounds, and the final winners ended up being a group of nobodies.

To me, that is the charm of single-elimination tournaments. You get some surprising underdog advancements you can cheer on, and some exciting matches at every round.

In a tumblr voting tournament, there's no factor of exhaustion. So it's actually a lot more representative than the scenario above.
