Have you ever wanted to draw something but you fought due to your skill level at the time you decide not to do it

Ohhh man. I’ve got so many projects that I want to make but haven’t because I view my current skill set as lacking— and they’re almost always drawing related, because I’m very insecure about my drawing skills— even moreso than my writing skills. To go on a tangent and paint a picture of how severe this visual art insecurity is, I will list off how many people I have directly permitted to read my major written pieces once I passed my mid-teens:

Look at that number of people. The number of pieces I shared with them, in total, was four out of the hundreds of projects I’ve made over the years. I was so precious about my writing because I’m insecure about it. I’m even more insecure about my art. I couldn’t list off all the drawing projects I hesitate to make because I think it’s impossible with my current skill level, not even in a thousand years, but I’ll give a few examples that are always in the back of my mind lately.

A semi-animated pilot to a fantasy-comedy cartoon parodying The Office, starring a goblin secretary who’s trying to assassinate her employer and take over as the final boss of an RPG-esque dungeon that operates like an office building, while her employer is a lich who misinterprets all her efforts to kill him as her being flirty, leading him to develop a very severe crush on the goblin. The project is titled “Boss Fight”, and I have all the resources I need to make it, but I drag my feet because of my art insecurity… also I would be doing all the voice acting myself, and I don’t find my voice very appealing even when I change it to fit different characters.

A webcomic about a fantasy world populated by bipedal bug people that features a very brief “save the world” plot, then focuses the rest of the storyline on how the characters recover from the events of their backstories and the trauma the experienced while saving the world. It’s titled “The Creeping Chronicles”, and I love the project but am so insecure about being able to do the story justice with my art skills that I’ve tentatively pivoted to making it a book series instead. It’s got 21k+ words across 10-ish chapters because I’m too insecure about my art to draw it fully.

A slice of life comic titled “Welcome to Wayside” that’s basically Gravity Falls meets Stardew Valley where a young girl saves a cryptid’s life and now he’s stuck helping her until he repays the life debt he owes. The story features a vaguely men in black-style evil secret agency called G.L.O.O.M. (Gents for Ludicrous Oddity Organization and Management) who have various ranks are named after facets of fashion (khakis are their grunt labor and pocket squares are researchers) and they use a threat-ranking system based on dress codes (i.e. “WE HAVE A BLACK TIE DOWN ON SOUTH STREET, REPEAT: BLACK TIE DOWN ON SOUTH STREET”), and I adored G.L.O.O.M. along with the cast of characters featured in the story, but I don’t feel confident in my ability to design interesting-looking original cryptids.

I could leave this post at that, but I’ve got an important thing to say on this subject—

If you want to make something but are hesitating to because your skill levels are lackluster, make it anyways.

Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever can. Let yourself make the thing, and let yourself make the thing badly. Love it and how ugly it is. The perspective is all askew in this part, and that character is horribly off model there, and isn’t it all amazing? You made that! You made a thing! And you wouldn’t have this thing that you made if you waited until the conditions were perfect to make it and refused to create the thing before your skills were sufficient.

There’s this terrible thing about creative projects— one that is very noticeable in drawing projects especially, in my experience. As your artistic skills develop, your artistic vision also develops to become more and more detailed and masterful… and it’s always going to be outside of your grasp. If you wait until you’re ready to make the thing, you will never make the thing, because you’ll never feel ready no matter how much you build your skills. But if you make the thing before you feel totally prepared, you’ll learn and grow artistically as well as personally, and will be able to feel more confident in future thing-making efforts.

Can you tell us anything about how CT can be used to find small foreign bodies that may not have a density massively dissimilar from the body they're lodged in? The specific example in this case: Dog is going for a CT to look for a potential cat claw tip lodged in the face that is causing repeated abscesses.

Oooh! That's an interesting one.

TL;DR: there will probably be goo around the claw. We can see goo. If there is no goo and the claw is lodged in soft tissue, the amount of radiation attenuated by the claw and the soft tissue will be distinct enough for us to see. If the claw is lodged in bone and has a similar density, we will still be able to see it, but we will have to modulate the way we read the images, which will cause no extra dose to your poor doggo!

First off, we'll look for any anomalies in the surrounding tissue. Soft tissue might fully envelop a foreign object, but we still expect to see some sort of reaction - i.e., a granuloma, which can either absorb some organic foreign bodies (very freaky! very cool! you can 'eat' splinters that get stuck under your skin!) or encyst them in a capsule-like shield to cut them off from the rest of the body.

So, in the above pic, the arrows point to a surgical clip that went walkabout in the body, and wound up encapsulated! How cool is that!

But generally speaking... If the claw is lodged in soft tissue, it will be easy to spot.

The way CT works is, we see how much radiation can penetrate through each separate point within the person/pooch who's lying in the scanner's central bore. These different penetration levels are mapped onto a scale to describe radiodensity, known as the Hounsfield scale, with '0' being water, '-1000' being air, and '+1000' typically being bone.

The gathered values are then composited using greyscale (and. a very funky process that I do NOT have time to get into here but ask me about sinogram tomography later) to create images across three dimensions, with fluid being middling grey (depending on its content), air being black, and bone being white.

So, the claw will show up clearly as a different density to soft tissue, especially if it's surrounded by oedema. It should appear significantly brighter (attenuates more radiation) while the oedema will be darker (attenuates less radiation).

However, if the claw is lodged in bone and there happens to be minimal oedema and no telltale damage to the periosteum (the membranous sheathe around the bone) ... we would have to use a funky technique called windowing!

Here's an example of windowing, using a human head. As you can see, the 'bone window' completely blocks out all soft tissue detail in the brain, but shows a lot more detail - i.e., trabecular patterns and mastoid cells! - within the bone.

Basically, there can be almost infinite Hounsfield units, depending on what you want to look at (if you're looking at, like, titanium, we'll be talking a RIDICULOUSLY HIGH Hounsfield number!) But the human eye can only see approximately

This is where windowing comes in! We can choose a certain point within the Hounsfield scale at which to generate a new image, focusing on one particular type of material. This is what makes CT so versatile!

If the claw is a subtly different density to the bone, it may not show up on a regular CT image. But by using a 'bony window' that selects a span of Hounsfield units to look at, right up towards the +1000 end of the scale, we can focus on the bone in far more detail, cutting out all extraneous soft tissue. This should give us a good idea of what's going on!

As a fun extra fact - windowing will not up the radiation dose to your poor pooch in any way. In CT, all we need to do is take a single 'picture', which compiles all the radiodensity info about our patient (be they bipedal or otherwise). We can then play around in 'post-production', so to speak, to our heart's content, producing different variations on the same image using windowing! Very nifty trick. :)

Can you review Crabmon, Coelamon and Anomalocarimon?

Crabmon is definitely drawn in an usual style for Pokemon, probably due to new artists being brought on as Sugimori moves his attention elsewhere. Regardless, it's a fine looking crab Pokemon, with some neat shapes and segmenting around the eyes and legs.

If there's one issue I have with this Pokemon, it's that it feels a bit generic. We've had other crab Pokemon before (like, shocker, Krabby), and this one doesn't have much to make it stand out. It does have blades on its oversized fiddler crab-style claw, which is pretty neat, but they're so tiny as to barely be noticeable.

Crabmon evolves into Coelamon—not a crab at all at this point but instead a fish-like creature. Ostensibly it's supposed to be a coelecanth, though it looks more like a dunkleosteus to me due to the head shape and segmented metallic plating.

Regardless, it fixes the main problem with Crabmon, going from being a fairly standard crab monster to a bipedal fish-like creature with exposed flesh, clawed mammal-like feet, and ripped, tattered fins. It's a really cool design, and one that's much more memorable.

The only problem with this design is that it's a bit too busy—I had to look up some other images of it just to fully grasp what was going on with it. Things like the amount of wrinkles in the skin, the arm-fins, and the "ribs" on the underside all could've been cut down on a bit. I also wish it kept the blade theme from Crabmon, as the only real connective bit here thematically is the seemingly metallic plating. Still, it's a much improved design as a whole.

Anomalocarimon (apparently called Scorpiomon in English) is honestly fantastic. Continuing on with the prehistoric feeling of Coelamon, it's not a crab or a fish but this time an anomalocaris, i.e., one of these guys:

And what a beautiful anomalocaris it is! It brings back the blade theme from Crabmon, but actually fully fleshes it out this time, making the blades much more obvious and giving it a sick scorpion-style tail to match. These blades and the matching spines on top give it a sense of repetition that makes the design easy to read despite the high amount of detail present.

I also love that it has two pairs of eyes—the striking blue eyes from Coelamon and a second pair of compound eyes for good measure. It also has a few markings on its body, which are carefully placed and really make things pop.

The only critiques I have are color nitpicks—I don't think the black at the ends of the "arms" in front was needed, the tan could've been a little lighter to give more contrast to the red areas, and the blue spikes could've easily been gray. Other than that, I really like this guy.

Overall, this line is pretty decent. While Crabmon is a bit simplistic for its own good, Coelamon is a much better (if not slightly too busy) monster design, and Anomalocarimon is nearly perfect in both concept and execution. I'll certainly be looking forward to Gen 10 if all of the Pokemon are this interesting!

There is a lot here, so I made this as a bulleted list. Some bullet points will include links to any previous posts I’ve made on a particular subject, and others will be external links (I will note where they go and what they are, nothing NSFW, I promise!) Also, minor CW for the 'Society' section for mentions of enslavement. And I will add a cut to save people's dash's because this post is a LONG one.

General Stuff

Lizardfolk come in the form of any reptile and are bipedal. To quote Mariel from AASOAF 2: “I’d seen [Lizardfolk] that looked like chameleons, iguanas, basilisks, skinks, or even their amphibian relatives, like salamanders and newts.” This includes snakes as well! (Snake types do NOT have feet/legs, they are basically giant snakes.)

Like their smaller counterparts, they can regrow limbs.

They come in nearly any color imaginable, though certain clans favor certain shades. To quote Axtapor from AASOAF 2: "[Clan Oxlo's] were hues of blue, black, gray, and purple with the exceedingly rare orchid pink that appeared once every few generations..."

They make a variety of sounds: growls, hisses, clicks, whistles, bellows, chuffing, etc., and can even manage some bird-like sounds. These sounds find their way into their languages, making them VERY difficult for any who aren’t Lizardfolk to learn or speak. (External links! These go to short wildlife Youtube samples of these sounds!)

They mature around the age of 16/17 and, until then, grow a variety of horns, crests, spikes, fins, and even feathers upon their head and neck. These features begin to shed once they enter adulthood, leaving behind their adult traits. More on that here (bonus pic of small-fry Axtapor included lol).

They have a keen sense of smell and can generate heat from their chests to incubate their eggs. More on that here.

Habitat

Lizardfolk hail from The Holtep Empire, a vast desert continent sandwiched between the Farnian Sea (on its eastern coast) and Ofler’s Sea (on its western coast) and shares a northernmost border with Galta (territory claimed by The Pale Kings from the Holtepians in a war many hundreds of years ago and now primarily inhabited by humans).

They prefer hot and arid climates, as they need the sun to help regulate their body temperature. This means they cannot thrive in the cold, so places where it snows or rains often are not ideal for them.

Society

Lizardfolk are organized into three Houses: The House of War, The House of Law, and The House of Dreams. Houses are made up of Major and Minor clans that establish the pecking order within their respective Houses. A little more on that here.

They adhere to a strict patriarchal caste system and historically have and continue to enslave foreign peoples (i.e., those of other races/species). These peoples are only admitted entry to The Holtep Empire if they arrive as slaves, or else they are killed on sight.

They speak dozens of different dialects; each House and social stratum has its own language.

Diet

Lizardfolk are hypercarnivores (i.e., 70+% of their diet is meat) but occasionally make room in their diets for things like starches, fruits, vegetables, grains, etc. Though if they eat too many non-meat foods, they bloat and can become very ill.

Those from more remote/rural areas have been known to eat humans and dwarves as part of their regular diet.

They can consume their food raw and eat parts of animals that are inedible to other races, including shells, carapaces, scales, nails, etc. These present nutritional value for them. See here.

Bonus Round!

Lizardfolk shed about once a year once they reach adulthood and take baths to help remove shedded skin.

Most marry and have children quite young, usually right after their ikismal (rite of passage) ceremony that takes place at the age of 15/16.

They can generate heat from their chests on command. This is an ability Lizardfolk have to take turns incubating their clutches after they've been laid. They'll put the eggs in a sort of sling across their chests and carry on with their business while they keep them warm. Some Lizardfolk who are more pale in coloring even glow a dull red while in this state due to increased blood flow to the area.

Lizardfolk have a strong sense of smell and have a sort of Jacobson's organ on their tongues that they can use to 'taste' the air. They can pick up on common things, like the scent of blood and smoke, but can also memorize the scents of people based on their sweat, pheromones and other unique scent markers. A fun consequence of this is that Lizardfolk children play hide and seek blindfolded so they can find their friends based on scent alone.

What would the Neighbors look like as merfolk? Well, after plenty of research (thank you Wiki, many fishing sites, & relatives irl), here's my take on that in alphabetical order.

🐶🐟Barnaby B. Beagle: Atlantic Spiny Dogfish. Okay, okay, this was an automatic choice just because of the name. Although, two venomous spines, can grow up to 4' (4 feet), often seen hunting prey in dog-like packs (hence the dog-like name), tends to feed primarily on crustaceans, jellyfish, squid, &/or schooling fish. Cod, red hake, goosefish, other spiny dogfish, larger sharks, seals, & killer whales all prey on dogfish. Dogfish also have a habit of getting caught in fishing nets due to their size, often resulting in bycatch (n. the unwanted fish and other marine creatures caught during commercial fishing for a different species). Now, clearly, Barnaby will be the same size as in his bio, same colors to as is the case with everyone else here.

✉️🐟Eddie Dear: Common (freshwater) Carp. These guys are all over the place where I go fishing/crabbing, make for good eating, too. What they do is root around soft sediment They usually feed on aquatic plants, worms, zooplankton, & other small animals found in the deposits. Their rooting upsets the water's bed & degrades their habitats by uprooting vegetation and increasing turbidity (cloudiness in the water due to particles). They're native to freshwater lakes & rivers in Eurasia. They were introduced to the United States in the late 1800s as a new sportfish. Now found in 48 U.S. states & most temperate areas around the globe. They typically prefer slow-moving systems with soft muddy/sandy bottoms. Found in most lakes & rivers in Louisiana. They sort of look like massive goldfish that evolved to be tougher for the wild. Somehow, they're often confused with native small/largemouth buffalo [fish]. Generally, they're a sort of golden brown/brassy green color that wanes to a pale yellow/white belly. The silvery variety can be found too, I've just caught the others. Subterminal mouths with two sets of barbels (AKA: "whiskers") off the upper corners of their mouths, large scales. Like most North American fish, they can grow +50 lbs but are more commonly found between 10-20 lbs.

🦋 🐟Frank Frankly: Florida Pompano. The Florida pompano, part of the jack family, is a species of marine fish with a compressed body, short snout & deeply forked tail. Pompano fish often have a color variation of blue, green & yellow on their dorsal areas with silver &/or yellow on their body & fins. I imagine he/they studies butterfly fish instead of actual butterflies. He'll still pop up to the surface to watch actual butterflies flutter around. Most adults of this breed feed on small surf clams, amphipods (I.e. sand-hoppers/beach-fleas, predaceous ghost shrimp, whale ectoparasites Cyamus, etc.), crabs, shrimp & even mussels. If he finds pearls or precious-looking items, he gives them to Eddie or Julie.

🐛🐟Howdy Pillar: Fimbriated Moray Eel. Get it? Because he's got freckles. Huh, huh? Anyways, these eels (aka Gymnothorax fimbriatus/ dark-spotted moray/spot-face moray), are a moray eel of the family Muraenidae, obviously. They're medium-sized moray that can reach a maximum length of 80 centimeters (31 in), though Howdy would be bigger (+8ft, maybe). Its serpentine-shaped body has a white-cream to light brown background color dotted with numerous dark spots which latter vary in size and shape depending on the individual & maturity. It has a tapered snout, is greenish-yellow with black dots, the corners of the mouth are white, & a very boop-worthy snout tip. He does the same things in his OG counterpart's way but with fish-based needs; worms, fallen crates of goods, fish filets from seemingly nonsentient fish, & so on. Wally is far more slippery, so plucking a chosen item is easier in Mer!form than bing bipedal. Howdy is an eel, so hunting isn't much of a challenge for him.

🌈🐠Julie Joyful: The Lybia Tessellata (commonly named "Pom-pom/Cheerleader/Boxer crab") comes from its symbiotic exercise of brandishing a stinging sea anemone (usually Triactis producta) in each of its claws to fend off predators & possibly to stun prey. Its "boxer crab" title comes from its bellicose reaction to threats. Something about this just fits...

🐔🐳Poppy Partridge: There are a lot of fish in the ocean, like birds in a tree. The chicken could be tuna (chicken of the sea), that much I know. Maybe a little parrot fish for color? Grouper for size? I can't find anything for her.

🌟🐠Sally Starlet: I'll be honest here, I was going to automatically pick a default starfish to go here, but then is kept digging. I'm stuck between a Lion Fish & a Manderinfish. Surprise, surprise, I can't pick. Maybe both with a touch of Flame Angel Fish for color?

😘🐟Wally Darling/Home: Yellowhead Jawfish (AKA; Opistognathus aurifrons) these little darlings [pun intended] are usually seen in undersized colonies around sandy &/or rubble-coated areas near reefs. Their lairs, smallish architectural phenomena, are created by excavating holes and lining them with rocks & shells for support - all done with their mouths. Obviously, Darling is half humanoid so he could use his hands here. Still, it's an interesting idea for him to be the one who builds Home. 🤔

These are just my thoughts on what they'd look like fish-wise. I'll need more time to pick & choose what other traits they'll each keep or lose. Feel free to use this as a sort of prompt or muse material 🤗!

My concept for a JT Spinoff series!

Since I'm in the mood of bringing my own direction to the series, because of course the series has so much potential, that needs to be expanded and use some new ideas and concepts into play, here is my idea for a JT Spinoff, that'll bring new ideas into the mix.

Get ready for some crazy intergalactic adventures, with some magic, chaos and futuristic technology mixed in!

Let's power up!

Johnny Test: Power Up! is a hypothetical spinoff idea, that will go beyond their planet and into the cosmos! The usual shenanigans of testing and misadventures will happen, along with intergalactic travel and supernatural elements. During a battle against his enemies, who were about to use a powerful device to change space and time, in a desperate act, Johnny would shoot it down. Unfortunately this would result in the device malfunctioning and engulfing everyone in a blinding light. Thus, Johnny, Dukey, Susan, Mary and many of their allies and enemies were sent on a new planet in a new galaxy, filled with new faces and before they knew, the Test quartette will get tangled in many intergalactic (mis)adventures, filled with fun, action, emotional moments, teamwork and the occational chaos, while facing enemies and friends, both old and new.

Since this is a different concept, the characters will be redesigned and aged up a bit. The new designs will be inspired by Sonic Boom and Winx Club. (I have yet to make the new looks and the new artstyle)

Johnny (who will be 13-14 years old)  will somewhat be similar to his canon counterpart, BUT there will be changes to his character. Like for examples, I wanted to give him a softer and more mature side to his character, in order to make him more likeable. Think of it as a three dimensional verison of revival Johnny, with shades of S1 in between. As for his redesign, he would wear a torn, yellow scarf, fingerless, black leather gloves, white sports tape, ripped pants, stylized high sneakers, a denim vest, optional shades, a futuristic watch, that'll act as a communicator/housing new features and a detailed shirt. As for new things, I want to add, is a new interest in parkour and breakdancing, to bring out a more active and fast side to him, as well as listening to music. Recently, he's been listening to K-Pop, J-Rock and J-Pop, since they're very energetic. He will be the (sort of) leader of the team and the way of a quick transport will be an updated version of the Turbo Action Backpack. To flesh out his character, he would have a greater sense in justice and when the situations are tough and intense, his demeanor will change into a serious fighter with a sense of humor.

Dukey will also be similar to his revival counterpart, but once again, I wanted to add a bit more dimension to his character, since he will be known as the voice of the gang. His redesign will be simple. Add a red scarf with a diamond-shaped gem, a utility belt with bags, some white sports tape on his arms and that's it. As for new things to add for our mutt friend, since he'll be in a city full of people of different species and more, he doesn't need to disguise himself, unless some of the returning characters, who are unaware of his unique talent (i.E. speaking and being bipedal) are present. Another new talent of his will be, much like Johnny, an interest in parkour. However, his dog skills would make him more nimble and fluid, a contrast to Johnny's fast paced moves. New things to add to his personality would be him being more social to the anthropomorphic animals, since he's not the only one anymore and if things are reality tough and his friends are in danger, he would have no choice than to swallow his fears down and stand up against his enemies. Mind you, it's not a common thing, especially that if he has to be the only one, but at least he's trying his best to protect his friends. During the day, he had to deal with not just the Test siblings' antics, but also those from his new friends. However, two of them would help him ease his worries.

Susan (who will be 15-16 years old) will be one of the two brains of the team. Even though she and Mary may have the same personality (similar to the original and revival), I wanted to add some elements to distinguish her from Mary. That includes the outfit and personalities. Sure, both keep their lab coats, but for Susan, her redesign will have hear wearing a bright blue sleeveless turtleneck top with yellow and indigo stars, a black choker, dark blue/almost black skirt with black shorts underneath, shorter white socks, black mary-jane shoes with a golden star attached to each shoe and special gloves, covering only the thumb, index and middle finger with some color on the finger tips. Why the special gloves? Well, even though the glasses will look identical to their original glasses, they would receive special smart glasses, containing a little, yet highly advanced operating system. As for new thing adding to her personality, is due to seeing the highly advanced and futuristc technology of the new planet, they're living for the first time, she'll be very intrigued in those and would use the technology for future inventions and gadgets. Unlike, Mary, Susan is more tomboyish and hot-headed, but at least she has some control, unlike a new friend, she just made. (We'll talk about that later) and Mary and others would point it out for her to calm down.

Mary (who will also be 15-16 years old) will also have some elements, in order to differentiate herself a bit more than Susan. Her redesign will still include that lab coat, but she'll wear a yellow crop top with some crescent moons, a high waist flared jeans with moon and sparkle embroidery, a moon necklace, high neon pink sneakers with moons and the same special gloves, like her twin sister. Her new glasses will also contain a little, yet highly advanced operating system. We all know, that Mary is more rational and calm than Susan and believes a bit more on the supernatural. In that spinoff, she would also believe a bit more in fantasy. Not only that, but she would interact with some of the mythical creatures, since the new planet has some of them and even befriend one of them (Again, we'll come to that later). She would also have her limits on overconfidence and would remind Susan, if she's crossing the line. Basically these additions are made, because I wanted to give Mary more spotlight and love and to make her three-dimensional.

But that's not all....They will be joined by three new characters, who will help them (or not, depending on circumstances.) on their adventures and misadventures! And sometimes, they would also creating new problems. Each of them having their own personalities and flaws. (I have yet to make the designs of the new characters)

Schalot (VA: Brian Doe) is the strength of the group, even though he's not the most buff one. (His body type is slender, like androgynous) He's a pastel pink snail with cyan eyes, wearing a singed red coat, a white collar shirt, almost open to let a bit of his chest breathe, a golden-yellow shell, a communicator on his right wrist, belts with one of the having bags on his waist and like those straps-like ones on his torso. The back sill include a strong magnet to carry his main weapon. His design will be based/inspired by Escargoon from the Kirby anime, but make it a bit more human like with human hands and a body type. And I want to make his head to be more friendly. Like give him full teeth and make his eyes bigger. (And no beard, since he would be between 18-19 years old) Almost like a gijinka in some ways. As for his personality, I can describe him as a moody, sassy and aggressive introvert, who's mostly seen spending time on his phone (I wanted to make him a phone addict, because some aspects are inspired by me.), with a chaotic side sprinkled on. This fella is knows as the luckiest and unluckiest snail, since he would get hit by random objects, but he would always survive unharmed. (Though, he has problems with staircases, as he would often fall down from them)  All of those inconveniences, coupled with the constant stress every day (along with some paranoia), would become the fuel of the one thing, everyone's afraid of: his nuclear temper. Even bigger than Hugh and Susan combined. (Inspired by the 2003 and 2012 version of Raphael from TMNT) Schalot is known to be highly sensitive. If you try to insult him, annoy him too much, hurt his loved ones and friends, look at him the wrong way or heck, do all of these above, he would definitely not hesitate to be loud and aggressive and he would definitely attack you. That' s right, he would attack you with his main weapon, a scepter. But not any normal scepter, a highly modified one, that contains advanced technology and have several attack modes (like Smash, basically make it as strong as a big hammer or blade, which meant, it would pull out a plasma blade for effective slashes.) Heck, he would often use it to break doors down, even the strongest ones, create holes from walls, etc. Aside from his burning anger, he would be good at insulting people and giving them savage remarks (except for the two new characters below and his siblings, since he is the youngest of them.). Like he would call the men in black as "Agents Dumb and Dumber", Eugene as "Bowling Ball Creep" or to Dark Vegan "Mushroom Head". But of course, he's not a full blown jerk. He just has trouble controlling his emotions and having problems with socializing. If you know him well and respect his boundaries, he would be loyal and protective. Plus, Schalot would take his responsibility and would do his best on making things right. When it comes to alien attacks or any form of battles, instead of running away like the citizens, he would never go down without a fight, since he has the spirit and the heart of a rough warrior. With his main weapon, some kunais with special effects (like explosion, shock, freeze, etc.) and other weapons from the lab, Schalot would make sure, no one would get away with it and give them a lot of pain. Some fun facts about him: Unlike Johnny and Dukey, this snail loves cats and has a different opinion about them! (Like he would melt at the sight of a kitten for example.) I mean, he’s catlike in some ways. Another thing is, he has such a sweet tooth with his favorite treat being a chocolate chip cookie roll with some ice cream. And also, if he gets too panicked, he would simply faint. Finally, it seems like, he may be bi, since when it comes to love, it’s basically an afterthought, due to a busy schedule. As for some depressing facts: while his siblings are still alive, his parents are not, like something has happened, that changed his life forever.

Serena (VA: Either Christina Masterson or Shannon-Chan-Kent) is the heart of the group. A sweet and kind girl (who's at the same age as Johnny), who's not afraid to help people and hope for a better future. Her design is described as a young girl with short, black hair, a white hibiscus flower on her head, yellow/amber eyes, a white top, pink belt with a huge bow/ribbon on the back, light blue leggings, transparent green skirt and boots. While she may sound like a very boring character, there is a twist. While she looks like a human, she's also a fairy with magical powers! That's right, I want to include a magical girl into the mix. Her inspirations came mostly from Winx Club. Like sprouting her sparkly pink, butterfly/moth like fairy wings, (which is at the same size as the original Magic Winx/Charmix wings.) firing magical blasts beams and performing spells. However, there are several downsides to this. First of all, it's due to her past. You see, she originated from Earth and while her father is human (In fact she and her father are from New Zealand) , Serena actually obtained her fairy powers from her mother. One day, her mother went missing, when she was three and nobody knows, what happened to her. Then when she was 6 years old, during a camping trip, she got lost in the woods, while chasing a butterfly. At the same time, a bear was nearby and she was so scared by it launching at her, that something awakened inside of her and created a magical explosion. Thankfully, no one was harmed and the bear ran off in fear. That explosion has alerted anyone, including her father, thus reuiniting with his precious daughter. Since then, she tried her best to surpress and hide her magic, out of fear of hurting anyone. But this resulted in the second problem: Unleashing blasts at random intervals. Even when she got teleported into a new world, that problem still persists , due to the fear. It wasn't until Johnny and the others learning the truth about her and accepting her of who she is, that Serena decided to open up more and started training her skills. Around the same time, she would receive her own communicator watch. And guess what, it'll still be an issue, but at least she tries her best. Few things, I can add to her personality, despite her kind personality, she dislikes Johnny's sisters, due to their treatment towards him (and unintenionally create the rift between magic vs. technology), but she would tolerate Mary more than Susan. Also, life lession: DO NOT USE HER KINDNESS TO EXPLOIT TO YOUR SELFISH DESIRES! If she finds out, well...the last thing, you piss off is a sweet fairy. The third and final problem is, when she tries out new spells, it'll end in unintentional disaster, due to the side effects. Plus, she has a limit on how many spells she would perform, without exhausting herself. Not to mention, she would profusely apologise, if her random blasts hit anyone. Yeah, she can be quite gullible, but give her time to mature and learn. Aside from this, I also wanted to give her some cool factors, like Serena not really the most girly one, but not the tomboyish one. She would be in between. Plus, despite being opposite to Johnny, both would become good friends.

Ziffy (VA: Andrea Libman) is a small, yet extremely advanced robot assistant with an advanced AI, that creates a human personality. In this case, a very happy individual, ready to help their friends! However, unlike Spongebob and Pinkie Pie, whose personalities inspired Ziffy's, that little fella is more level headed. Inspired by G3 Frankie, Ziffy's pronouns are they/them (even though robots are genderless, therefore pronouns doesn't matter). Designwise, they’ll be a small, cute robot with a monitor, projecting their face and a cute ,violet and blue, six-point star shaped antenna. As for their personality, they will be an happy and highly expressable extrovert and ready to help anyone, but also has a level-headed approach. LIke they will play the neutral ground and tries their best to give out compromises and suggestions, since they're the balance of the group. Despite the small size, Ziffy packs a lot of devices inside, like a flamethrower, a hammer, giant tweezers, a confetti cannon, laser blasters, a bell, a megaphone, a scanner, a hologramm projector and many, many more. Interestingly enough, they wasn't built by the Test sisters at all, as they originally came from a different planet far away from the new planet, their friends are staying. On top of that, before meeting Johnny and the others, they actually built several robots for several purposes. For example, MediBots are the medics, cleaning bots for cleaning, CheerBots for cheerleading, etc. After meeting them, Susan and Mary will collaborate them to create new devices and more. And here's the thing, they and Schalot are best friends, despite being opposites to each other! Don’t worry, Ziffy knows a lot more about him and therefore, respects his space and even helps him. Just make sure, his schemes wouldn’t cross the line. Of course, their flaws would include: Them being a bit overreactive, can get really tired at some point, so they have to recharge themselves and sometimes, they can go out of control, because the AI is very good, but not 100% perfect. Most of the times. they’ll be in the background, while their friends often go on adventures, but when push comes to shove, that little robot wouldn’t hesitate to protect their friends at any cost.

Of course, there will be more new characters during the gang's crazy journeys and of course, some returning characters will also show up time after time, like Mr. Black, Mr. White, Sissy, the General, Gil, etc. Ideas for new characters will be like a strict female general, an artist, a musician and many more. Ranging from anthropromorphic snails, tigers and other animals to aliens to mythical creatures like elves, fairies, etc. As for the villains, it'll be a mixture of the old villains, like Bling-Bling-Boy, Dark Vegan, Zizrar, Brain Freezer, Mr. Mittens, etc. and brand new villains in rotation.

Each of their communicator watches (now called T-05. As in, T for Test and O5 referencing the release year of the original.), that the main cast have, have many features than just for communication. Inspired by the Enerbeam, they would contain something, called the Neocord, which is a beam containing bright plasma. Each of them will sport a different color. (Example, Johnny's being yellow). It'll be used as a rope to grab enemies, swinging them around, throwing them into the stratosphere, using it as a bungee cord, slingshot, etc. A special thing, it can do is to split into multiple beams to grab multiple enemies, tethering the beams together to create a net, etc.

The main location for the premise is in a planet, named Lumina. Specifically in a shiny, futuristic city, known as "Starfall City" The city is home to its thriving community, amazing technology and beautiful greens.  The planet itself is full of beautiful forests, cascading water and snowy areas, all filled with hybrid animals and other creatures. The residents will be full of aliens, anthromorphic animals and even supernatural and mythical creatures.  The inspiration of that location came from Astro Boy and the music video of K/DA's "MORE". The main protagonists will live in a HQ with a highly advanced lab, a training room, a garden and many rooms, like a living room, some bathrooms, a kitchen and multiple bed rooms. However, there are times, where the gang will travel to different planets and galaxies either to take a vacation there or solving problems.

The comedy will be a mix between the JT humor and comedic anime elements. (i.E. falling down in a comedic fashion, very expressive, slapstick, etc.). On top of that, it won't be afraid to make some self aware jokes and referencing their own history.

BUT! It won't be just filled with just comedy! It'll contain a lot of action scenes and emotional moments, in order to give the characters depth in developing. Basically, if Johnny Test is an anime. A semi-serious one.

As for the aesthetic, I could describe it as, if sci-fi future meets urban street vibes and add some myths.

Even though, there will be call backs, it'll take place in a different continuity, as the premise will take place 2 years after the original and revival.

And one more thing, when it comes to those cosmic adventures, most of the times, Johnny and Dukey, along with Schalot and Serena, had to deal with the situation. Sometimes, it's just the two, or maybe three or heck, solo missions will be a possibility, but when the situations are tough and intense, the ENTIRE team will be involved. And sometimes, Johnny wouldn't be involved in some missions.

The inspirations behind this project come from Sonic Boom, Winx Club (mainly the first 4 seasons), Sonic Prime, Sonic X and Ratchet & Clank. As in aspects of comedy, settings, action, emotion, story etc.

TT’S GONNA RECOMMEND SOME SELF-PUBLISHED KAIJU FICTION

Because the mood struck me

(and also because I’ve been meaning to give these a full fledged reviews for a RIDICULOUSLY LONG TIME and I’m kind of embarrassed how long it’s been taking so I figure if I do some quickies I’ll feel less bad about myself as a person ok LET’S GO)

I’m gonna start with the Daikaiju Yuki series by Raffael Coronelli, because its first entry was also the first self published kaiju novel I read.  This series is fun and fast paced, with wonderful characters and dynamic storylines in a highly unique setting: a post-post apocaylptic world, where humanity has rebuilt civilization after a kaiju war hundreds of years ago destroyed the old one (i.e. ours).  The protagonist of the series, Yuki, partners up with one of the few kaiju who decided to defend humanity back in the kaiju war, a grouchy old bipedal lion named Narajin, and the two essentially fuse to fight various threats to their world with the other remaining members of the Pantheon Colossi (i.e. the protector kaiju).

For newbies, this series covers a lot of kaiju tropes in an engaging and unique way that actually serves as a pretty decent primer for how this genre stands out from other monster fiction.  For experienced kaiju fans, the new twists author Raffael Coronelli has put on the old tropes and the innovations he’s added solely of his own invention make for a take on the genre that is astoundingly fresh, managing the difficult task of paying homage to what came before while crafting something very new and distinct from it.

I also can’t stress enough how fun these books are.  The characters grow on you very quickly, and the stories move at a lively pace that makes the books very easy to digest while still having a lot of substance.  Also there’s a LOT of content to consume here, so if you find you like the first book, you’re in luck - because not only is there a lot more of what you liked in the other entries, but Coronelli’s writing has gotten even better with each installment.

BONUS: I’m gonna link Coronelli’s Big Egg here because while it’s arguably more of a Weird West story than a kaiju story and not part of the Daikaiju Yuki series, it’s nonetheless VERY GOOD and kaiju-adjacent enough to feel relevant.

If you love it when kaiju stories go dark and experiment with body horror - and I know a good chunk of my followers here do, both from the posts you make and from the sheer number of body horror-riffic entries you’ve submitted to my Create a Kaiju Contests in the past - you owe it to yourself to read All Your Ruins by Alex Gayhart.  It is a bleak kaiju story that leans as far into the horror as kaiju stories can, while still retaining many of a kaiju story’s hallmarks.  You’ve got experimental robots, you’ve got a big lizard who shoots lasers from his mouth and has a few suprisingly poignant and tragic moments of pathos, you’ve got scenes of massive property damage - and you’ve also got scenes of people being torn apart by swarms of giant bugs, poisoned by toxic kaiju blood, assimilated into piles of fungus, and all other sorts of horrifying demises.  If you want a kaiju story to send chills down your spine, this is your book.

I’m emphasizing the grim aspects of this story, but I also want to note that it avoids one of the pitfalls a lot of modern horror falls into, in that it balances all the horrific shit by having characters in it that you actually care about.  It’s a tragedy, you know from the start things won’t end well, but some of the people involved in the conflict are so lovable and try so hard to survive that you root for them despite the prevailing sense of dread.  It’s a gloomy story, but it’s not the sort that makes everyone relentlessly awful - more George Romero Day of the Dead in tone than, say, the all consuming bleakness of The Walking Dead.

Also it’s got some killer illustrations.  The main monster even takes the “bipedal lizard with dorsal spikes” visual in a direction so unique that it actually stands out against the progenitor of that design concept.  That’s not the say the book depends on those illustrations, mind you - Gayhart’s prose isn’t afraid of laying it on thick every now and then to paint an appropriately distinct and horrific image with words.  That might not be for all tastes, but as a person who’s read a LOT of classic horror literature, I personally appreciate it - a dash of melodrama in the description of the horrific, when used well, can make it very effective, and Gayhart put just enough in there to work very well for my tastes.

All Your Ruins

BONUS: I’m going to recommend the two books in author Alex Gayhart’s Black Star Saga here as well.  I haven’t actually fully read them yet - I bought the initial release where the two volumes were bundled together as one, and got sidetracked by LIFE BULLSHIT shortly after I started it (this happens to me too often while reading - I still need to finish Stephen King’s It and Marie Kondo’s books too), but I liked what I read, and from what I’ve heard the more recent editions made some big improvements to the story’s pacing.  It’s the same quality of writing as Gayhart’s All Your Ruins, but with a less grim tone - more Ultraman and less Shin Godzilla.

The Black Star Saga Volume 2: Moonage Daydream

A lot of classic kaiju movies bring up the threat of giant monsters destroying all of civilization if they aren’t stopped, but almost none have shown them carry that threat through.  In the Shadow of Extinction let’s that threat actually play out - you see the kaiju apocalypse begin and civilization as we know it end in the first third of the book.  The remaining two thirds focuses on survivors picking up the pieces in a world now ruled by giants.  It’s the kind of story you’d think there’d be more of in our genre, but outside of All Your Ruins and, uh, the Godzilla anime trilogy, there really aren’t that other takes out there.

While Gayhart’s All Your Ruins focuses on the horror aspect of a kaiju apocalypse, Kyle Warner’s In the Shadow of Extinction focuses on a political/crisis management angle.  It’s like if Shin Godzilla had a baby with George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, and that baby had the “bureaucratic failings of big governments in the wake of national disasters” elements of the former and the “multiple different perspectives via a large cast of characters” format of the later.  There’s no one protagonist in this one - you follow a large and diverse cast of characters from around the world and from pretty much all walks of life as they try to navigate a disaster that destroys society as it once was.

Once the civilization effectively ends in the first third of the novel, In the Shadow of Extinction transition from “disaster movie” to “post apocalyptic thriller,” like The Stand, Day of the Triffids, 28 Days Later, or, I dunno, a toned down version of Mad Max (but, y’know, with giant monsters, so I guess not THAT toned down).  I bring this up because the content of the last two thirds takes after the tropes of post apocalyptic thrillers as much if not more so than kaiju stories - that is to say, there is some Triggering Content in this one.  That’s not something to dissuade you - the characters and story remains very solid and unique for the kaiju genre - but it is something I feel you should be aware of, and if you want a more explicit description of what kind of Triggers I mean here, shoot me a message.  Suffice to say, kaiju aren’t the only monsters when civilization breaks down here.

But Kaiju do remain prominent in the book nonetheless - it is ultimately a kaiju story more than anything else, and it’s impressive how the book manages to incorporate all those other influences as well as a heaping dose of political commentary without ever diminishing the presence of its monster stars.

Saiyan Biology Part 2

Teeth

Saiyan teeth are based partially on baboon teeth in that the canine teeth are notably larger than the rest of the incisors, although the rest of the incisors are also fanged, and suited for ripping and tearing.  However, their molars are still similar to those of most omnivores, and are used for chewing.  As a result, saiyans are classified as an omnivorous species, although they take the concept of eating everything to the extreme-for example, while a saiyan will gain little to no nutrition from eating stone or metal, they are technically capable of digesting materials commonly thought to be entirely inedible.  Saiyans tend to prefer meat because it is high calorie and high protein-both necessities for their biology- but they do require plant based nutrition for a rounded diet.  Their teeth are capable of cutting through bone, and their molars capable of grinding down tough woody stems.  A saiyan’s digestive system is equally robust, and capable of resisting most parasites and poisons found in food.  As a result, cooking is not a requirement for digestion, but most saiyans tend to have at least a couple foods they prefer cooked (or alternatively complex food items that require cooking to come together). Also, while not their primary food source, due to their incredibly large calorific requirements, saiyans on the battlefield will fall to eating the the bodies of their not-always fallen opponents (i.e. that one scene of Vegeta snacking on a random alien mook’s arm), which doesn’t help increase their intergalactic standing. Like some reptiles, saiyans are born with all their teeth and they exhibit polyphyodonty-if a tooth falls out, another will grow back in its place.  Despite the large size of most of their teeth, they are fully hidden by the lips.  Saiyan jaws tend to be larger and wider than those of most similarly sized mammalian species, and they have an incredibly strong bite force-although again, they are similar to crocodiles in that even a fairly small force stopping movement of the jaw will be an effective neutralizing method.  

Half-saiyans retain the oversized canines, although the rest of the teeth are similar in appearance to those of a human.  Half-saiyans are born with canines, and the rest of their teeth grow in sometime between three to six months.  Apart from this, their teeth are similar to those are full saiyans, as are their digestive capabilities. Their jaws are larger than those of most full blooded humans, but not necessarily to the extent that their canine teeth will fit properly.  As a result its fairly common for the canine teeth to project outwards and protrude slightly past the lips.  This is entirely a cosmetic issue, and could theoretically be remedied by braces, although the issue of placing the braces for long enough remains an issue, particularly with the amount of facial trauma most saiyans go through, and also the problem of finding a dentist willing to stick their hand in that mouth.

Quarter saiyans, like half saiyans, retain most of the dental and digestive capabilities of a full blooded saiyan.  They have oversized canines, although not to the extent of full or half blooded saiyans.  Like human infants, they are born toothless; their canines grow in within the first couple of months, afterwards the rest of the teeth grow in between six to eight months.  They do have a set of baby teeth, but after those grow in they retain the polyphyodontic trait.

Eyes

The pupil and iris of a saiyan have no differentiation, is ovular and elongated, and contracts and expands with the light (and, occasionally, emotion).  Their visual acuity is no better than a human, although their night vision is far superior.  Without the use of ki-energy, saiyan eyes possess tapetum lucidum- otherwise known as eye shine, which allows for vision in low-light activities; with ki-energy, a truer backlight is possible, allowing for some vision even in pitch-black environments.  In fact, the general environment of earth tends to be a bit bright for saiyan eyes, resulting in slit-like pupil/iris’s.  This is because saiyans originally evolved in a low-light environment from living under the canopy of their original forested planet (listen. listen.  You do not get monkey-based species without trees.  I do not know what was the saiyan origin planet in the main universe was, but I do not care, a rain forest type environment makes sense.), and later on the red sky of planet Vegeta was relatively dim compared the sky of planet earth.  Additionally, because they tend to gain power with the moon, saiyans are naturally at least partly nocturnal, which also plays a part in their keen night vision.  Saiyans also have sensory organs present in the inside corners of their eyes that allows them to sense heat energy of nearby organisms (i.e. that thing snakes can do? yeah kind of like that).  

Half saiyan eyes are rather similar to those of a full saiyan, although the sensory organs are under-developed and unspecific.  Gohan is actually tremendously, horrifically blind without glasses nearsighted, although not as a result of an incorrect blending of human and saiyan genes or entirely as a result of eyestrain from reading.  Admittedly he did strain his eyesight throughout his childhood, because it didn’t get bad enough that he needed a book half an inch from his face in order to see it until high school, and he didn’t realize most people did not see the world in various states of blurry.  Luckily, saiyan and half-saiyan eyes are similar enough in function to human eyes that regular glasses do work.  

In quarter saiyan eyes, the thermoreceptor organ is entirely absent, and pupils are more ovular even in day-light.  Otherwise they function much the same as full and half-saiyan eyes do.  

Noses

A saiyan’s sense of smell is probably their most developed sense.  It is very sensitive, and capable of picking up minute differences in scent.  They are adept trackers by smell alone as a result.  That said, saiyans aren’t particularly good at blocking out potent smells, and overwhelming scents-particularly unpleasant ones-can be debilitating much as high pitched noises can be to a Namek.  Unlike humans, saiyan noses have diagonally set nostrils instead of downward facing ones, much like new world monkeys.  In half and quarter bloods, the angle of the noses shifts downwards with the addition of human blood, but otherwise the function remains the same

Body and Proportions

Saiyans tend to be stockier than the average human, and very much embody the idea of being built like bricks.  They’re a warrior race from a high-gravity environment, and they look it.  They have long torsos and longer arms, and a prehensile tail and prehensile feet from their arboreal ancestors (who were comparatively closer to modern saiyans than humans closest tree dwelling ancestors).  A saiyan tail, apart from its noted sensitivity to being yanked and containment of trigger glands for the Oozaru transformation, is also an important part of a saiyan’s balance.  Ki-energy can serve as a substitute, but without actively circulating energy, a tail-less saiyan has not insignificant balance problems.  As children, saiyans tend to lean more towards a quadrupedal stance, although it’s considered improper in higher echelons of Saiyan society.  As they grow older and proportions shift, they tend toward bipedality.  Unlike human primates, saiyans have retained claws instead of nails.  

Half-saiyans have more variety in body shape, although they still trend to more solid builds (e.g. even Gohan, the person closest to being a twig of everyone with saiyan genetics, has fairly broad shoulders and a barrel chest).  Typically, the length of the torso, arms, and legs are more or less equal in length to each other.  Half saiyans retain the prehensile tail and feet, although they’re not quite as hairy as a full blooded saiyan would be.  Their nails aren’t quite claws, but they’re still thickened and come to a natural point.  

Quarter saiyans have similar body shapes as half-saiyans.  Their proportions are close to human, although they’re noticeably off to a practiced eye.  The tail is thinner and shorter, but still present, and while the back of the foot is fairly human in shape, the feet are still prehensile.  Their nails are mostly blunt, but still thicker than a full blooded humans would be.

Due to the high gravity environment of both planet Vegeta and the original saiyan origin planet, saiyan skeletal and muscular structures are several times more dense than those of most humanoid species of comparable size.  This allows saiyans to hit harder and lift more than most species, assisting in part of their infamous power.  Their skin and most of their other organs are similarly tough-without energy circulation, they can still be harmed by mundane means, but it takes a considerable amount of force to result in damage (e.g regular hand guns or even a car crash wouldn’t amount to much more than mild discomfort, but something along the lines of a missile launcher would) On the flip side, the amount of energy required to maintain their dense physicality is incredibly large.  Even without much activity, around twenty to thirty thousand calories are necessary for a saiyan to function.  Strenuous activity and/or energy use increase the required calorie usage exponentially.  As a result, a saiyan can die of starvation in a matter of days.  The tough physicality and intense calorie requirements are considered dominant traits, and remain present in half and quarter saiyans.

What consequences does Cull face for killing so many humans? Do any try to kill him? Are there horror stories about him?

Good questions! Cullrik has killed many humans in his time, but he has managed to escape serious consequences by essentially running away. He has the ability to step into Nulcin whenever he chooses. Meaning, when someone tries to trap or kill him, he can simply vanish into Nulcin if he believes he can’t fight them. He returns to his world when he decides it is safe to come out of hiding. It’s difficult to call him a coward since he doesn’t experience genuine human fear, but in behavior, he’s pretty close to one.

People have tried to kill him before. Towns have hired hunters. Sometimes people go after him on their own, to avenge a friend or loved one. Cullrik considers fights an inconvenience, which is why he tries to steal the souls of humans who wouldn’t be missed by anyone (i.e. nobody would care and/or notice if they went missing). But again, when someone does try killing him, he simply vanishes when he feels his life (or existence) is truly in danger. However, like all himortua, he is proud. He sometimes believes he can defeat an opponent much stronger than him, so he stays in the fight until he has no choice but to escape into Nulcin. This is a dangerous habit. Although he doesn’t experience tiredness like a normal human, he experiences a similar “exhaustion” if he drains his healing ability. If he isn’t careful, this exhaustion could prevent him from escaping to Nulcin at a time when he needs to escape most. He has come close to “death” before.

Those who have encountered/seen Cullrik and escaped with their souls intact have plenty of horror stories about him. Most stories have the same basic premise — a bipedal monster resembling a cross between a human and a black ram, with no facial features besides a mouth, dressed in a suit, who kills humans and vanishes without a trace. Most people don’t fully understand the “soul-consuming” aspect unless they are familiar with himortua. But stories like this are common in villages Cull visits often.

Cullrik has a particular fondness for the souls of sheep. Many horror stories about him involve herds of sheep mysteriously dying in villages. In these stories, someone eventually spots the monster responsible (often late at night), and the storyteller goes on to describe what Cull looked like. Cullrik is terrifying to encounter in person, but these stories sometimes stretch the truth to make him sound even more frightening. Most people are too scared of meeting him to even consider hunting him.

I had been near here a little less than two hours ago.  The skeleton of a building in construction was in view, a matter of blocks away, an unlit black against a dark gray sky.  Beneath that, I knew, was Coil’s subterranean base of operations.

Well. I guess that construction is at a high risk of having to start over, or never being completed.

Parian had given life to three stuffed animals that lumbered around Leviathan.  A stuffed goat stepped forward, and sidewalk cracked under a hoof of patchwork leather and corduroy.

Huh. That takes some force. Does her power also make these stuffed animals as strong and heavy as their forms and sizes would imply - i.e. as if they weren’t made of fabric and stuffing?

A bipedal tiger grabbed at an unlit streetlight, unrooted it, and charged Leviathan like a knight with a lance couched in one armpit.

I dub thee Sir Tony.

The third, an octopus, ran interference, disrupting Leviathan’s afterimages before they could strike capes and wrapping tentacles around Leviathan’s limbs if he tried to break away.

Parian was gathering more cloth from the other side of a smashed display window, drawing it together into a crude quadruped shape, moving a series of needles and threads through the air in an uncanny unison that reminded me of my control over my spiders.

I guess she has some power over needles, cloth and threads to help make the stuffed animals too. Neat.

So, I’ve made some updates to a thing I’ve been working on. Below lies a list of events in chronological order. Most of them are things we (in the US) have heard of or reference in our culture. Some of them are surprising tidbits of trivia. Some are things we Really Should Know More Commonly. And some of it is just fun.

Why? Well, I found myself wondering things like “would Captain Kidd have been able to steal a Ming vase?” or “did the dodo go extinct before or after Harvard was established?” or “when was Sperm Whale oil last used?” Unlike a certain game, I’ve tried to keep to the latest proven dates on record and keep it accurate. The dates for thermometers, for example, changes depending on whether you mean “shows objective temperature change”, “records temperature with a numeric scale”, or “records temperature and is unaffected by barometric pressure differences”.

I tried to be inclusive beyond cis white male, but I know I’m not completely successful. A lot of things aren’t well recorded or documented and some things spread across a large span of time. In other words, if it’s not here, it doesn’t mean it is not important.

Human Evolution and Islam

N.B That’s not a new topics ! It’s a part of an archived thread originally posted on sunniforum. This is a thread for this topic and how Islamically we can explain it. It is only for Muslims whilst Muslim biologists are specially invited to participate. It is incumbent upon the Muslim biologists and those in the field to refute those who use biological ideas against Islam. Otherwise don't blame those Muslims who are not biologists yet who take on this task. Here's a start that i wrote elsewhere: Ok after having read a lot since that time, particularly from pro-evolutionists-i'm not convinced by human evolution whilst the topic of other species, it is highly probable that macro-evolution(in case some are wondering, actually some evolutionists accept the distinction) to some extent took place although current evolutionary theory is seriously deficient in its explanations and must be improved-, i've come up several observations: 1) Evolutionists at times have used outright deception to propagate their views(such as Haeckal's embryos) 2) Evolutionists have been very gullible at accepting "evidences" that have turned out to be wrong(the "Piltdown man,"  the "peppered moths", the Miller-Urey experiments etc) 3) Evolutionists have a lot of evangelicals(atheists and agnostics) who are trying to promote their views against theists and thus have no sense of accountability for what they say-provided their not shown to be wrong- and this has been shown by their blatant lies at times. 4) Christians opposing evolution have also used lies and shown ignorance of the topic 5) Thus neither sides have been trustworthy(especially the atheists) 6) Considering the methodology of Islam in accepting information,-more important in this case as the issue affects Islam- i propose that Muslim scientists don't accept information on the topic where the opinion is against Islam(especially when there's a strong bias by the kuffar) but should set stringent criteria for verifying the information and must verify it themselves. 7) The conclusion is that the information that the kuffar provide on the topic of evolution(where is contradicts Islam i.e. human evolution) is not accepted at the current moment until it is verified by trustworthy Muslim scientists. 8) Also Muslim scientists should aim to refute those kuffar who oppose Islamic beliefs through science. Harun Yahya(although not a scientist and i disagree with his works) however must be commended(contrary to the useless Muslim scientists who have done nothing but complain about him) as he has set the groundwork and now the real Muslim scientists should take over and modify and strengthen his arguments. Note that i've talked with a science teacher(who is a biologist and has a masters degree) and he basically said that there's a number of serious problems with the theory but its a developing theory so there's no guarantee on some of the things it says. And he rejected human evolution.

Of course it is obvious in our intelligence(it is the highest) and other behavioural aspects but lets look at the physical aspects. Also why did humans supposedly ditch the trees and the tail? Jeffrey Schwartz has taken the lead, nevertheless they still believe in evolution(and i have no problem with it except with human evolution). As for Michael Behe and a lot of the IDists, they support human evolution so this stuff is of no use to us on this issue. So don't waste your time reading those two although i have the new book by him(got it today from the library called biochemical challenge). What we have to do is really create an Islamic perspective of this. For this the first thing we need is the different Islamic material(Qur'an, Hadith etc) on the creation of Adam(AS) and then we can make logical predictions from them so that we can atleast know what to look for. Much of the alleged evidence that filled text books over the last 50 years has now been reclassified or rejected altogether. The missing links are still missing. Human Evolution: The Legacy of the Fossil Evidence Human evolution has many issues, including the realities of genetics, biochemistry, design theory, irreducible complexity, DNA structure, and information systems. Realistically, if Darwin's theory can't begin to explain the 'evolution' of a system as simple as a ten part mouse trap, what hope has it got in explaining the development of the complex biochemistry associated with a single cell organism, let alone higher life forms? The Test Commandment: Sabbath matter Now examine the account in Exodus 16:1-30. The people of Israel were "murmuring" against God because they wanted more food. So God said, "I will... It can't be a physical trait that has no real impact on the character (i.e. "black hair"). I'll allow physical disabilities or extra appendages (i.e. "wheelchair bound" or "has 3 or more eyes").
