it’s the episode 8 review!!! how many episodes is this show supposed to even be?

the stages from the episode feel like such a grab bag.... i still don’t understand why they didn’t put all the skill stages together, and then did the normal two episodes of the third round. i guess it makes sense that they didn’t want to have six stages in one episode and then three in the other two, but eh.

feeling kinda average on these as a whole, there’s a lot of good elements going on here but probably because of my own preferences (i don’t listen to ballads or blackpink) none of them really hit all the buttons. hopefully this will be a shorter review because i'm only going to do a quick rundown of the vocal stages; i dont really have that much to say about them because they are (intentionally) not very stage picture focused. i'll do the normal stage breakdowns for the other two though, even though i won’t rank them because we still need to see the other four!

vocal stages

sf9 + tbz + ikon

not much to say here other than wow, that’s RED. glad to see some more specific use of spotlighting and i always love when they light things on fire. i do wish they had fill lit with a brighter amber so we could actually get a bit more detail on their faces, especially because there’s six of them. i appreciated the simple blocking and only using one of the ‘stages,’ this stage didn’t need to be anything complicated and it wasn’t. i don’t love spinning camera shots because they make me a bit ill, and i'll forgive the constant cutting because it's a vocal stage and there isn’t any other real movement that we should be paying attention to. not my favourite of the two, i found it visually a bit too repetitive and complex at the same time. always love a crushed velvet suit though, so bonus points for that.

atz + skz + btob

i was braced for the worst and i dont know what kind of miracle happened but it was listenable! like i said, not a ballad fan but i could listen to eunkwang all day. i love a good plinth for a ballad stage, they’re one of my favourite devices in kpop design and i especially love it with a good groundlevel fog. glad they kept it black and white for the first half of the stage, it was in line with the blooming flower projections, and it made a very clear colour arc. they kept the visuals clean and simple with very little blocking at all, a very smart choice for this stage. not sure why they decided it would be the chanel time stage, which i disapprove of because i don’t like chanel, but i do love eunkwang’s shirt with the cameo buttons and the massive turnback cuffs, very 17th and also 19th century. i know they never do it because they dont read on stage normally but yes absolutely more thin chain pendant chokers on men, thank you! i also liked that there was emphasis on a more traditional lighting scheme, there weren't any crazy concert effects, just some good directional beam spotlights and the rear stacks in the climax.

third round stages

costume

the first look for them is definitely my fabourite of theirs so far. there’s enough variation in the jackets that the base layer of tshirt and jeans don’t look too repetitive. and i do love a good statement jacket. my favourite is probably donghyuk’s because i'm a sucker for fringe always.

i don’t like the backup dancers costumes, but given the way i’ve reacted to every other all black outfit for this entire show i don’t think anyone was surprised about that. these ones particularly irk me because they’re very matte; there's pretty much no texture or pattern differentials to define the shape of the limb, which makes them disappear when theyre all grouped together (mostly on the women). i think they probably were intending to make a statement/emphasis on the hands because of the sleeve cutoff point, but there were so many arm movements that were just totally missed because the costumes were just black voids. most egregious parts are here, with the female dancers up center. i can barely tell what the movements are unless i’m paying specific attention to them because there's so many black shapes. maybe it was the point for it to be an indiscernable writhing mass, but it wasn’t my vibe.

don’t love this styling on lisa. i hate peeptoe shoes in general but peeptoe boots are the worst offenders. they make you look like you have duck feet, no matter who you are. especially with a flat cutout like that. a universally unflattering shoe, and i would know, i worked in a shoe store for two years. this whole look is just pg-13 rihanna cfda awards 2014 and really nobody should try to run up against rihanna.

also i have to mention this because it’s actually really bothering me, but lisa’s backup dancers are serving very allgemeine ss looks and i do not like it. generally when we see ‘military’ uniforms in kpop theyre usually modelled off older styles (pre wwii) of western uniforms that usually aren’t in circulation, and they’re usually non-matching and embellished in ways that are deliberately not military. i know logically that it's a budget constraint+they’re backup dancers+current trend thing but the clean lines with only button detailing and the all black and that specific harness shape? it hit my brain the wrong way. i mean, technically those uniforms are designer because hugo boss did them, but the uh..... girlboss move didn’t land for me.

this is my PERSONAL OPINION please for the love of all that is holy do not come yelling at me about this. it’s all under a cut, you chose to read the post.

set

very glad to see some busy kitschy sets! this is a massive build, since there’s essentially three full sets here: the temple, the jungle, and the first tiny room. and all of them are very heavily decorated.

the starting room is just five walls on casters (wheels), that have been set into place with the cameraman and ikon inside at the start, and then once they exit the walls can be easily struck and rolled off set. simple, smart, and convenient!

i missed it the first couple times around but glitching out the projections in the temple for a split second was a neat little trick.

the silver and polygonal nature of the tiger/panther/cat(?) head is a bit disconnected from the gold and the aesthetic of the rest of the stage for me. the difference between the original room set and the jungle tracks, but the cat head isnt able to make the same leap for me. i'm also not a fan of mixing metals so maybe that’s why.

the tiger/panther/cat(?) head is a fun physical transitional device; i'm a big fan of tunnels and small transitory spaces like that and if they’re well dressed like this one they do so much for establishing place and mood.

i'm very sure i’ve seen this style of polygonal animal head with laser eyes before....i cannot for the life of me remember where or for what. i know wang yibo did a panther stage for sdc3 that had a human formation panther with green laser eyes, i wonder if i'm just crossing wires.

OH nevermind it’s because it looks like the witcher medallion. wires were definitely crossed.

lighting

using purple/teal lighting for the jungle was a smart choice because purple is the direct compliment to the gold and also is much more flattering on humans than green. green is one of the colours that humans can see the most variations in, so when something is green when it's not supposed to be (like human skin), we register that very quickly and associate it with unease and sickness. you know how old fluorescent lights have that greenish tinge that kinda makes you feel ill? it's your cone cells and your brain recognizing that you’re looking at things that are not supposed to be green.

very clean colour arc, i love to see it.

sound

it’s.....fine? i don’t listen to blackpink and have no opinions on their music other than it's not my type. i dont really know what the thematic connection to the visuals is, which is not strictly necessary in a lot of cases, but i don’t particularly care for the conflation of ‘savage’ and a (presumably) precolonial religion that’s assembled from stereotypes of real colonized cultures. you can come at me about how ‘it's not that deep’ all you want but i am here specifically doing an in depth analysis, and i gotta point it out. i'm not here to pass judgement on you if you didn’t realize or don’t care or whatever, i'm just saying that it's important to consume content with a critical eye. what you do with that information is your own personal choice, but you should be aware of it at least.

staging

they took a big risk eating popcorn right before singing, and we definitely got some residual mouth noises of them trying to clean out their teeth. eating on stage is difficult in general because you have to make sure it's not going to dry out the performers mouths, because they dont have access to water and it takes WAY longer to chew and swallow something than you would expect. there’s a LOT of testing that goes into making stage food and guaranteed it’s not made out of what it looks like or what its supposed to be; i worked on a production of amadeus were we did literal weeks of testing amalgams of different desserts to make sure that salieri could actually eat the ones onstage without totally drying him out, because fun fact about that show, salieri doesnt leave stage like, at all, so there was no way to get him water. poor bloke.

i thought the blocking of this was really smart. the long take from the ‘normal’ room and transition into the jungle was super slick, even if that weird circle the camera did while pointed up at the ceiling was unnecessary and pointless.

bobby’s ‘acting’ was extremely funny and that’s the only way people are allowed to act surprised now. edvard munsch scream style only.

the pacing is a bit off and this time it wasn’t mnet’s editing that fucked it up. as fun as it is to have a feature, clearly she wasn’t allowed within proximity of the rest of them for covid or other yg related reasons, but it made for some extremely long transitions, especially the one out of her verse. it kills the momentum of the stage in that beat, even though they manage to pick it up after.

this is a very simple little narrative arc that’s easy to follow and doesn’t require any extra explaining. which is exactly the kind of arc that groups should be doing at this stage in the game. this is a good formic step up for ikon!

i thought the turning off of the monitor at the end was fun and a good callback to them watching the videos at the beginning of the stage. a nice clean way to make it circular.

skz

costume

FINALLY something different on the skz boys! these were mostly fun eboy looks for them, and i like it on the basis that it's not the same as the last set of costumes.

bang chan out there with his thigh OUT and a (fake) bridge piercing? LOVE to see it. great work.

(copy-paste every thing i’ve said about backup dancers wearing all black)

the backup dancers that were dressed as bystanders/extras were great! they should have kept that with all of them because it would have given a little more shape to the choreography and establishing what function the backup dancers were supposed to have.

set

that is meant to be a giant rice cooker on stage, right? i think so because it's a god’s menu mashup? if that's not a rice cooker i have NO idea what its supposed to be

there’s only two large setpieces here, which was a smart way to go. i LOVE the subway car doubling as the truck, even if the truck itself makes no narrative sense. what a fun way to double the use of a single big piece. you’ll be able to see the way it moves in the full cam but it splits down the centre and there entrance doors at the back with attached stairs that bang chan and the dancers use to climb up.

lighting

not a whole lot happening here. i like the cool white leds in the subway car and the contrast with the more warm tones of the outside, which is good atmospheric establishment, but i can't discern a visible arc.

not a fan of these projections; they’re in line with what we’ve seen from skz so far, which is: extremely literal. i dont think they’re that distracting, but they’re not to my personal taste. they really should have kept the comic panel theme that they did for changbin’s first verse, because that was inventive and fun to watch! and a great atmospheric indicator! i would love to see a bit more experimental projection use but it's hard when they don’t have a lot of time to build these stages and the lighting team is definitely working remotely.

sound

i love that they made the choice to do some actual talking, it’s a good gimmick and it works for the deadpool/comic book/fourth wall break theme, but australian accents take me the fuck out i am so sorry i cannot listen to either felix or bang chan speak english without laughing uncontrollably.

i don’t like this arrangement but i'm not surprised about that, given my predilections. i'm also tired of skz shouting STRAY KIDS in every performance they do. i know on music shows it's probably more relevant and yea producers tags are a thing but we’ve been watching this show for nearly two months at this point. we know who you are, you can stop yelling. be more creative with it!

staging

my biggest issue with this stage is that it doesn’t have a payoff. there is an arc here: they’re stealing the truck, but why are they stealing the truck? who are they stealing it from? who are they fighting against? it's kind of important in a stage where the theme is stealing and fighting someone that you tell us who that is. in both of ateez’s previous stages were they were both stealing (rhythm ta) and fighting (wonderland), they made sure to show us who the villain was. there needs to be tension for a big blowup climax to actually pay off. whether it be against a a balloon arm kraken or a fascist government. this stage could have reached that next step if they’d just done a little bit more exposition.

there were a lot of fun choreo moments here, and this is probably my favourite choreo of theirs so far. i thought the whole first bit in the subway car was excellent and a very fun play on those viral videos that we used to see roll around every so often of dancers doing routines in subway cars.

did it need the guns? not in the slightest. more on this point later. i could talk more about weapons and weight here, but i’ve done that several times already.

like with the tbz game of thrones stages, theyre relying a little too much on the audience's preconceptions of the source material in order to carry the theme. the guns are there because deadpool likes guns, but they don’t actually use the guns for anything? the most we get of the stealing segment is felix and the safe, which admittedly is a great bit with him leaping over and under the ‘laser’ lines (theyre likely led strips). because comic books are by nature procedural and deeply tied to narrative, it's unsatisfying when there’s no tension and no payoff.

HOW did we manage to get two stages that are blackpink covers with remote/tv static gimmick and durags? i know the slot machine of kpop tropes is not very big but surely the probability of hitting triple sevens on this one was pretty low. i’m pretty meh on both of these stages overall. skz was unsatisfying but i loved the choreo in the subway bit so that bumped it up a little ahead of ikon’s in my personal preferences, but i'm reserving my actual rankings for next week. assuming we get the other four stages next week and they dont do something stupid and only show two. which they very well might. i’ve stopped trying to understand why mnet does things the way that they do.

tell me the first song that made you stan your current fave group and why did your faves attract you so much?

for seventeen, it was clap. the synchronization, even when they made a mistake, was really impressive to me. i started binge-watching their dance videos and i just remember being at awe at how a lot of people (considering they’re 13) could be in sync like that.

for nct, it was kick it. i used to say i didn’t like the song, but it won’t get out of my head. i’m not sure what keeps me attracted to them as a group. i just am. also, haechan is the love of my life. i’ve never loved an idol the way i loved him.

for ateez, it was wonderland. good lord, i just love that song. the mv, the vibe it gives off, the aesthetics during that era. makes me want to start a revolution.

i didn’t have a dull childhood or something. i just don’t have specific memory that i could consider my favorite. but if there was anything i was fond of, as a kid, it was being innocent and not worrying too much about anything. i miss that and i wish i could go back.

the museum where van gogh’s starry night is stored. i want to visit it in the middle of the night when there’s no one else there. i just want to stare at it and appreciate it.

unbowed. unbent. unbroken. haha, kidding. impulsive, unpredictable, and...confusing i guess?

i’m not really the type who studies regularly but i don’t walk into the exam room without reading at all. i read and study a few days before the exam, try to get as much information as possible.

i’d rather go with pastels in the day and bold neons at night.

7. do you live life in the moment or do you plan every action you take?

a bit of both depending on the situation. i’m the type who plans ahead on things that i really want to happen but i have my fair share of spontaneous, impulsive decisions that lead up to really fun experiences. but when it comes to life in general? i’m just taking in every day as it comes.

christmas. the weather is cool and everyone’s a bit kind during that time of the year. and it leads up to new year.

i can’t see stars even with glasses on because my eyes suck. so i guess, i’d rather watch the sunrise because that obnoxious ball of bright yellow light is so hard to miss. plus i like how the surroundings change colors as the night changes into day.

summary: you’re a part of the tech team at YG and your sister company SM has asked for you to test out these human-like robots and it doesn't hit you that they’re really human-like until Jeno the bot shows up at your door.

You were very busy.

An extremely busy person with all these new projects coming in for your tech team at YG headquarters. So when your sister company, SM, had one day come into your tech lab while you and your team, Winner, were working on to find cures to this certain robot disease, you were annoyed to say the least.

You all were so busy with the task at hand and had so many other assignments right after it that you couldn't even joke with each other let alone take proper breaks as you ate and worked at your desk.

"Evening, gentlemen.... and... lady."

All of you looked up at the voice interrupting you, your brains so focused on your work that you had to blink a couple of times to recognize the person as SM's promotional director. You cleared your throat and got up,

"Um good evening, is there any way we may assist you? If you're looking for the CEO's office, it's just down the hall, past the potted plant on your right-"

He laughed, cutting you off, "No no no, I came here for you. For all of you specifically."Now everyone stopped tinkering and writing, looking up at him in curiousity. He started to walk around the room slowly, taking in everything your team was doing while speaking,

"I'm here to offer you a chance of a lifetime."

He paused, looking into all of your eyes,

"SM has been working on a top secret project for about 5 years or so now. This project has been government approved already and is set to launch and be available to the world in possibly two years or so, once we find out how the first few drafts are doing. Just to make sure that there are no system failures or glitches that possibly could end up being a danger to the rest of the world."

"What exactly is this project?" Mino asked with his glasses hanging on the bridge of his nose. The man smiled before him with clasped hands,

"This is project Neo-Culture Technology. Or project NCT in short. It's a mind blowing project where the tech teams at SM have created several robots and have made them to have human-like qualities. Down from the jobs that they may hold in the real world. Such as being that baker that you go to grab some fresh bread from, a high school teacher, a worldwide famous actor; all of these can be professions for these robots. We're not trying to replace humans with robots but rather have the bots help out the world since they are so skilled and have the capacity to store so much knowledge in their metal brains than our flesh ones can."

He walked back to where he had originally been standing and the smile dropped from his face as he said seriously,

"And we would like you to test these robots. We'd like you to monitor their behaviour; in simpler terms we'd like you to be the first ones to be able to see how they properly work. We have one robot who's specialized in being a personal assistant and were hoping to grant one of you the privilege in keeping it for about a year."

"Oh so what you're saying is you basically want us to be your test rats." Seunghoon scoffed out while rolling his eyes. "Hoon! Be polite." You hissed at the boy who scowled, whispering back, "It's not like I'm saying anything wrong!"

The director noticed you all were hesitant by his words and tried to assure you by saying,

"The reason why we have chosen you is because you are the most skilled and professional team under YG. We could have offered iKon or AKmu or even BLKPNK this chance but we think they are not yet up to the standards you all exude. We would like one of you, to take care of this robot who which by the way, isn't difficult at all. He's a well mannered robot and does his best to help others with his set of personalized skills. There will be no troubles at all except there may be some small glitches. And that's where your profession comes in. Because you all are more than capable enough to help find and fix the problems this robot may display, there is no doubt. But I can assure you, that there will be no danger with being around this bot. He's been tested many times before except this time he's going to be tested out in the real world instead of an underground lab."

The man finished his huge speech, which you realized had wasted more time of yours than needed. You looked over at your team and they were looking at each other in a sort of silent agreement than back at you.

"To be honest, I'm fine the way I am, so I'll reject the offer but thank you." Seungyoon spoke. "Yeah me too, I think adding in some bot would just give me more of a difficult time rather than easy." Hoon followed. The other two chimed in and now all of them were looking at you in hope and some slight mischief in their eyes, making you realize that they'd ganged up on you. You let out a huge sigh and closed your eyes, rubbing your temples. You couldn't refuse the offer as it could strain your team's relationship with SM but at the same time you agreed with Hoon, you didn't want any more difficulties added onto the problems you had now. Yet it looked like you didn't have much of a choice.

"I'll take him." You said in an exasperated tone.

"Perfect! I'll let you know when he'll be dropped off and we'll also have a manual for him as well since he isn't running on oxygen and needs gear changes and such from time to time. You nodded out of exhaustion but the man didn't seem to notice and was beaming.

"Alright then! It's a deal! Have a wonderful evening all of you!" You returned to your desk thinking about his words and prayed to any God out there that this wouldn't be a hassle.

It had been a little more than a week now since you had taken on the task of testing out project NCT's robot. And no one had contacted you yet as to when he would be coming. So now here you were, all alone at home, 2am in the morning and making some tea.

All of this stress had finally taken its toll as you had expected and now you had come down with a flu. But you didn't worry much as this had happened before and you could just work from home rather than the office. The other guys didn't mind either and sent you texts if you needed any help or if they needed to access your data. Jinwoo the sweetheart especially called you daily to make sure you were okay and if you needed food or anything.

But you assured that you were fine and just needed rest.

Rest in your world meant as in working from your bed and or living room couch. You were just thinking about how the guys must have been doing at the lab when you heard your apartment bell ring.

"That's weird." You murmured to yourself since it was so late and you weren't expecting any tech packages from overseas. Thinking it was most likely overly caring Jinwoo, you opened the door and came face to face with an extremely handsome guy.

He looked to be in his late teens possibly early twenties as his broad shoulders and impeccably chiseled face told you he wasn't a boy but his innocent smiley eyes told you he wasn't yet a man. You tried not to stare directly into his eyes as you asked, "Do you need help with finding an apartment number?"

Being so used to people mistaking your apartment as their friends or family's. The guy shook his head and smiled wider revealing some gorgeous white teeth,

"I'm here for you."

You were confused now, had Hoon ordered you some stripper or something?!? "I'm sorry, I don't think I recognize you." You said, feeling your palms sweat a little as you clasped and unclasped your hands.

"Ah! You're getting nervous and scared! Wow, this is my first time experiencing someone other than my master as being nervous!"

The guy looked at you in awe, his face flickering over your sniffly and sickened face in interest.

"But to introduce myself properly, I'm Bot LJN0014 or Jeno to be short. It's very nice to meet you my new master." He bowed, making you feel flustered.

So this was the robot. You couldn't believe that you didn't even recognize him as one as he displayed such human like qualities.

"U-uh come in, come in." You stepped to the side, letting his tall frame walk in. He walked in still staring at you as you led him to your living room and let him sit down on your couch. Sure you had been around robots but none like him, so close to being human. You sat at the couch opposite from him and asked,

"Would you like anything to drink?" Then slapped your head muttering, "Obviously he doesn't drink anything he's a robot you dimwit." Jeno laughed saying, "Thank you for asking but I don't really need much to function. Just some oil changes here and there but otherwise I'm fine."

He sat politely still and straight staring at you, almost as if waiting for you to speak. "So...... Um I'm in quite a rush at the moment to complete some tasks. And I wasn't quite expecting you to arrive today and well find me in my pajamas and sick self. So I apologize for that but I do have to work on some things at the moment."

His smile didn't falter as you nervously added, "So you can just um make yourself comfortable. I'll be in my room over there." You pointed to your room.

You got up but were stopped by his warm hand around your wrist. Warm? So he could change his system to convey human heat? "I think out of your best interest that you should rest and I can take care of your work." His voice was so clear and full of joy it was as if he was telling you it was going to be sunny all week.

You looked at him, still feeling hot, unsure if it was from your flu or because of him and shook your head, "No Jeno, I don't think you understand. This isn't simple work I'm doing so you wouldn't be able to grasp it. But thank you for your concern."

Now he shook his head and stood up, making you look up to see his face. "You can check with my personalized manual if you'd like but I am able to help you with your specific job. I was programmed to help anyone with anything so my memory capacity is fairly massive as it holds in a large amount of knowledge."

His face was so close to yours, you blinked a couple times as your heart beat faster. His eyes softened after scanning the fearful expression on your face, "Plus I’d like to help you. I may be a robot but I can understand feelings and health and you don't seem to be recovering well from your sickness. So please let me help, please master."

You blushed again at the name he gave you and sighed feeling sleepy. "Okay, okay fine. You can help me but I'll still be sitting beside you to see how you work just please don't call me master, call me by my name ________, nothing else."

He broke out into one of his wide attractive smiles and nodded fast saying, "yes ________! Anything you say my _______!"

From then on, your life had surprisingly gotten easier. The flu had gone quick since Jeno had done your work and had taken care of you at the same time; making you tea and putting a blanket over you as you slept. And it felt good. You also weren't stressed every second as before and still worked on your tasks but knew that you had help whenever you needed it.

Jeno was also somewhat of an amazing personal assistant as well, since he would get you and your team coffees without you even having to ask, would help clean up the lab and would provide help to the others and their work as well. You and him had become close in a way, like a student and teacher mixed with being friends. He was always there to help you and you were always there to help him since he never left your side almost like a puppy.

But the only flaw was that he didn't have normal human senses. And that really was difficult in some situations, for example right now. Since Winner had finished their previous project which went quicker with Jeno, you all had taken on a new assignment alongside iKon. And you knew Jeno couldn't help you with it since it included having to customize the taste of food, something of which he couldn't experience since he didn't eat.

So you were slaving yourself over finding a way and it had reached midnight. The others had left you as they had completed their part from the useful help from Jeno and now you two were alone.

Whenever you worked, Jeno didn't bother you and instead sat by you and stared at you. At first, you had felt nervous and uncomfortable by his stare, but overtime had realized that he did that because he wanted to input your features and expressions in his memory as he was still learning himself.

You were his main glimpse of the real world, with your full range of expressions, soft voice and overworking tendencies. Though often, while you changed his oil, you had to remind him that every person was different and that not everyone he met would be like you. But he would just stare and smile at you with no response.

"Why can't I understand this!?" You growled out. There was a slight temptation to just throw all the paperwork and delete everything on your computer that was making your hands twitch.

"What's wrong ________?" Jeno made his way over to you, leaning over your shoulder to see the computer screen.

"It's nothing, or well you won't be able to help because it's not in your ability to."

"I still would like to see if there's any small part I could help with in order to make your work easier for you."

And there your heart went with the fluttering. You’d thought that over time you would be less and less affected by his genuinely kind words but it had been the opposite. Not to mention his personality had changed a bit as he had begun to take on some similar aspects of your team members of course since they were always around him. He had learned how to joke, understand sarcasm, know what to say when people were upset and had learned to dress better when all of the guys had taken him out after work once to get a "more fly" wardrobe. However he still spoke to you in the sae formal tone.”

And here he stood beside you, in a simple red and black flannel with a short-sleeve white shirt underneath, some black joggers and adidas sneakers. His pitch black hair had stayed in the same neat style as when he had first met you. That was one of the things you liked that he hadn't changed about himself. Sometimes you’d really forget that he was a robot and not human, which often made you wonder how he would've been as a person in the real world and if you ever would have become friends.

"__________? Are you okay? You seem to have this look in your eyes...... I've seen a couple of elderly ladies and quite a few younger females look at me in that way before. I believe it's the emotion-"

"Jeno could you please grab me a glass of water and a granola bar. I'm awfully hungry and tired so I think I'm gonna rest for a bit." You quickly interrupted before he could continue what he was going to say.

Because you knew exactly what he was going to say.

"S-sure." Jeno responded a bit confused. Very rarely did he ever show a lot of other human emotions besides happiness unless he was truly feeling them inside and didn't think fast enough to cover them up. So he was truly not understanding the situation. As he went over to the far side of the lab towards where the kitchen was you put your head in your hands and took a deep breath.

You really had to get better at controlling your thoughts around him otherwise he'd be able to read your expressions clearer the next time. "I wish he wasn't so cute." You mumbled to yourself before fixing your hair and going back to figuring out your problem. Jeno came back shortly, a glass of water and a banana instead of a granola bar in his hand. You groaned at the sight while he walked over with a cheery, optimistic smile.

"You know, you should stick to your "less sugar" diet and opt for something healthier like a banana!" His thin crescent shaped eyes made you want to smile back at him but you were too grumpy with the lack of sugar to do so.

"Thank you Jeno. You're always keeping me on track." You complimented him to let him know that you appreciated his kind thinking. "It's what I was made for." He gave another smile back except this time with a bit of something else hidden in his eyes which was..... odd.

"I probably need to check up on his gears and control system...." You thought to yourself as you kept staring at him while your eyes were drooping.

"_________, I really think you should get some sleep and figure this out tomorrow." Jeno's face was becoming a bit blurry but you didn't miss how his voice had lost the cheery tone and instead almost sounded like yours when you were teaching him something. The student had begun to teach the teacher.

"I'm fi-ne." You yawned out and rubbed your eyes, observing and trying to remember how his serious face looked so you could write it down in your journal where you kept notes about him. You lazily smiled up at him with your half-lidded eyes while he just pursed his lips and walked over to the seat beside you in silence.

Now you knew for sure that something was wrong but you figured it didn't seem like too much of an emergency if he was just displaying new emotions, so you continued with your work. Except, only a couple of minutes in, your struggle to keep your eyes open had failed as you stopped moving your computer mouse and your head kept dropping down to your chest.

All of a sudden, you felt Jeno's strong hands move your chair and pick you up by the waist. In your half asleep state you didn't quite care as you wrapped your legs around his waist and rested your head on his shoulder. You should've been in shock but you just enjoyed the comfort of being held by him plus you were far too sleepy to care.

He carried you over to the couch by the window and gently laid you down as you looked at his concerned face through half lidded eyes. You curled up on the couch as it was a couch that sprung up to be a bed just in case anyone wanted to sleep overnight. After laying you down, he opened up the bed and took off his flannel, draping it on your upper body. You snuggled into the warm shirt and smelled in all the Jeno oil and cologne smells embedded in it.

You felt him sit down beside you and treating him like the teddy bear you slept with, you snuggled closer to him. "(Y/n), w-what are you doing?" Jeno whispered taken aback by your actions.

"I just wanna sleep beside you." You mumbled your honest thoughts to him.

"I just wanna cuddle with you and be embraced by your warm cozy like fire arms." Your eyes had closed now as you held onto his waist and felt your self drift away into a dream. But before you were totally gone, you felt Jeno take your hand off of his waist, which didn't surprise you as he was probably wondering what was wrong with you and why you were taking advantage of his warm body.

But you couldn't help it. You liked Lee Jeno.

You liked LJN0014.

And you knew that it was wrong but you couldn't stop it. And the next morning when you woke up pressed up beside him, his arm underneath your head as he stared at you with a look of curiosity and that other unidentified emotion again, it made it all the more clear to your heart.

"_________." Jeno looked deeply into your eyes while softly speaking.

"Mmmm?"

"I watched this drama with Seunghoon the other day, it's called 'I am not am not a robot' and after analyzing it I got to understand more behaviours of humans. I also got to understand that though the main female lead was not a robot, she ended up falling in love with the man she was helping and he fell in love with her while thinking she was a robot."

Your heartbeat increased because you had absolutely no idea where this was going at all but knew it including most likely you liking Jeno.

"And I thought that it's similar to our relationship. Except I'm a real robot and I'm not treating you from your disease rather aiding you with your work. And after analyzing very well and being very curious, I would like to try something. But the only person id be able to try it with would be you."

"W-what would you like to try?" You softly whispered with your heartbeat accelerating.

"Can I kiss you?"

Those 4 words had you in complete shock as your mouth was wide open and you held your breath to stop the throbbing in your chest.

Was he serious!? Was this a dream??

"J-Jeno I-I -"

"I wouldn't have asked you this (y/n) but I have started to realize that you have let me feel another human emotion. And it makes me want to kiss you and hug you and always touch you. It also evokes some fear in me as I have never felt this emotion with so many other emotions that I have in my system and I don't even think it's possible to feel this way but when I look into your genuine eyes and feel your soft hands on me, it makes it clear to me that you must be feeling the same way too." He took in a deep breath, mimicking what he had seen in movies before an important moment.

"So may I kiss you?"

"I-I-I haven't brushed yet. I can't-"

Jeno smiled slowly catching you off guard.

"I don't have the ability to taste remember?" His eyes twinkled with amusement as you laid there, your lips twitching up and he murmured "I'll take that as a yes" while getting closer to you and gently touching your lips with his.

With your busy work schedule you didn't have the time for relationships or kisses or anything so you had forgotten how it felt to touch so intimately with another. And it was pure bliss.

Jeno's human-like features also included his lips to be incredibly soft and plush like rose petals as you slowly started to move your lips against his. You could feel your body begin to heat up as his other hand rested upon your waist and your hand was on his chest.

Eventually, you had to pull away to breathe while he kept going for more which made you giggle.

"I *pant* don't have enough *pant* capacity in my lungs to *pant* keep up."

You laughed some more as he pouted looking like a little puppy wanting more.

For once, all of the thoughts about work and your future that had been occupying your mind were thrown out and in their place was Jeno. For once you had something else that gave you a purpose to wake up in the mornings besides a cup of coffee. Jeno stared back at you with the same unidentifiable emotion twinkling from his eyes to which now you had identified.

Love.

BigBang still popular in China despite 'Korean ban'

In the situation where China's ban on Korean culture is half lifted and half not, the steps that Big Bang makes is attracting attention from the public. Despite having more than two years of interrupted activities, local interest has grown more and more with the contact with Seung Ri. Not only Seung Ri but other top Korean singers have also received tour offers in China and are taking prudent steps. Recently, a local representative revealed the popularity of Big Bang - the group that has overcome the harsh conditions such as THAAD (Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence) sanctions and absence for enlistment, "Big Bang is still the most popular singers in China." On China's Baidu search engine, Big Bang was present in the top 16 of the weekly popular groups at the end of September. At the same time, Big Bang also showed their solid reputation when T.O.P was ranked at No. 24 and G-Dragon at No. 26 in Korea's individual male artist reputation raking, the ranking also featured Cha Eun Woo, V, Se Hun, Jung Kook, Ji Min, Chan Yeol, Jin, etc. According to an official in Chinese television, the name Seung Ri constantly appeared in invitations to local variety shows. In reality, it cannot confirm whether the invitations were sent, but in the recommendation list, Seung Ri is the only Korean nationality. A representative stated, "Lifting completely the ban on Korean culture depends on Big Bang's activities. If it is them, then everything is solved." First Encaunter <3 - a Junhoe scenario:

Since a very young age I always loved books, any kind of books really and as I grew older I knew that whatever I did I should be connected to books somehow, maybe a teacher or Korean literature. However, life started showing me a reality I did not like at all, a reality where parents should shower their daughters with dolls and fashion magazines, rather than what they actually wanted, of course some girls could just really play with dolls and they’re free to do so because that’s what they like, but if they don’t then they don’t need to.

The stereotype embeved not only in Korean culture, but in all cultures, that girls have to grow up to fulfill this mother and wife role really bothered me to the point where I’d argue everyday with teachers and classmates.

One day at this random old library I used to go to, the old lady who owned it approached me after seeing the books I had been reading for the past weeks and I remember her saying loud and clear that I should fight against the tide to stand my ground, she then gifted me a book called ‘The female Eunuch” by Germaine Greer and from that day on I always carry it with me, like a Lucky charm.

A year after this encounter my mom received a call from a friend in Italy saying that he got her a scholarship in this famous art course. I was fourteen then and because my dad had a ridiculous amount of working hours to do, my mom ended up taking me and my sister along with her and we lived there for two long and eye opening years.

Coming back to korea I felt like someone totally new, I learned so much about feminism and ways I could change little by little the society I’m a part of. I learned a lot about political and social Science and that brings me to where I am today.

My lectures for the day were all finished and I had to go to my mom’s gallery in order to help her with the new paintings that arrived. I took the subway since her shop was in Itaewon and Yonsei was about thirty minutes far away. As soon as I got there she greeted me with a big smile.

“Oh! You’re here” She said giving me a hug. My mom has always been a very loving person, but after living in Italy she was very much into skinship.

“Yes yes” I said smilling.

“Come here, you need to take a look at these amazing paintings that came in today” she said excitingly and grabbed me by my hand.

We reached the storage room and there were so much paintings spreaded out.

“Mom, I told you to wait for me” I shook my head upon the mess she made.

“Sorry honey, I was so excited” Sometimes she sounded like a little girl, but at least I know who I got my intense passion from.

The new paintings were beautiful and as the new season was approaching the shop would be crowed for the next few days, filled with very wealthy people who came to buy exclusives for their collections, that means we have to get everything ready by next week, however, dealing with paintings requires so much care and caution.

...

It was about nine p.m when I finished my part and my mom was still there finishing up some work. Don’t get me wrong, I would’ve stayed and helped her close but she pratically kicked me out. So, after taking a bus here I am at this convenience store getting ramen. As I waited in line to pay a tall person stood behind me, I knew she/he was tall because a shadow came over me, so I decided to peek to see who was it and once I did I swear my jaw dropped to the floor.

We both were staring at each other intensely not knowing what to say, I mean that guy standing right there was my childhood crush and oh God, I haven’t seen him in so long that now he feels like a stranger.

“Hi’ He said quietly while scratching his head.

“H-hi” I bowed.

“So long” He said trying to look unbothered but I still knew that expression and it meant ‘what the hell am I doing?’ It was hard to get him embaressed but apparently I did.

“Yes, you’re a singer now huh” I said casually, doing the same as him and paying for my food.

“Yes, what about you? You moved to Italy and I never heard of you again” He said putting his stuff in the counter.

“Well, I study at Yonsei now” I said. It was funny seeing us act unbothered and ignoring the tension.

“Wah, knowing you I thought you’d never come back” He said.

“I am here right?” Lots and lots of things might have changed but me and Jun Hoe would always be pulling each other strings. “Anyway, what’s with the clothes?” I asked after seeing his flannel shirt and adidas pants, he looked like a beggar.

“Oh, this? It’s style...You know it?” He asked with a dirty smirk and raised eyebrows.

“I do, but do you?” I said back and he just twirled around as an answer.

After that we just stared at each other a bit without saying a word, there was a lot to catch up but I’d rather just accept that we changed.

“I’ll get going now” I said breaking the silence.

“Ah sure, go safely” He said and I bowed.

I decided to just walk back home, I definitely had some thinking to do but I don’t know if I want to. It was crazy to think that my childhood crush is now an idol that still makes thirteen year old girls swoon, older ones as well. As expected from him.

This encounter got me feeling nostalgic and reminiscing the times where we would play together at school, we were a duo for sure, even though he was a year ahead of me. I quickly shook those thoughts away and entered home, I took off my shoes and my dad greeted me.

“You’re home! Where’s your mother?” he asked.

“She insisted in staying and finish up work” I answered while making my way to the kitchen.

“Oh, that woman, seriously” He said like he was mad at his little kid “Go put on warm clothes, it’s cold” He then scolded me, probably because he can’t scold mom for being sttuborn. In moments like these I miss my sister living here so we can share the burden.

I showered and put on comfortable warm clothes, I was in the bathroom brushing my hair when his image came to my mind.

“What the hell? Stop this now” I said to my reflection while pointing at it with my hairbrush.

I went to the kitchen and ate my ramen, after finishing I cleaned up everything and went to my room. I then read a chapter of my beloved book like it was a bible, and stopped when I heard the front door close signing my mom was home. Finally I could sleep.

A/N: So, first of all, I hope you enjoy this “scenario” and yes, there will be a continuation since it’s kind of a series/fic idk what to call it yet…

ALSO, very important, I try to be realistic when writing something, so, given that the characters are korean I wanted to showcase some sort of realness with the “wah” and other ‘slangs’ if you may. I am in no way trying to copy them, just give a more “real life” feel to it!!!

Q. What are your memories from Japan? MJ: I ate pork cutlet curry ramen! Oh, was it curry? (conversing with staff for a bit) It might not be, I’m not sure (laughs). It has a chewy texture so I’m guessing it’s curry. It was definitely ramen (laughs).

Q. Closest K-Pop idol? MJ: MYTEEN’s Gukheon (previous stage name Xiheon). He’s a dongsaeng who I used to train with previously. He’s busy since he’s currently in the midst of promotions but I’d like to meet up with him once he’s more free. It’ll be nice if one day we could promote together. We know each other well so I think we’ll be able to produce a good synergy effect putting our forces together.

JinJin

Q. What are your memories from Japan? JinJin: I went to Don Quijote and bought peach flavored konjac jelly as well as KitKat flavors exclusive to Japan. I also forgot to bring along with me shorts and a singlet but it it was so hot so I bought them! Being able to travel with my family after a long while was also a good memory! I also went up Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and experiences a lot!

Q. Closest K-Pop idol? JinJin: I often go drinking as a trio with SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi who’s the same age and B.A.P’s Zelo. I like alcohol similar to cocktails where you mix stuff. I heard that Highball’s famous in Japan so I tried drinking it and it was really yummy! I think it’s a good compliment to any kind of food.

Cha Eunwoo

Q. What are your memories from Japan?

Eunwoo: I really ate all kinds of stuff. Takoyaki, tebasaki, hitsumabushi! I also went to the convenience store after our concert ended. I really liked the Jumbo Monaca in particular! I think I ate at least 10 during this tour? I ate one earlier on too (laughs). In Tokyo, I could walk even whilst surrounded by so many others. On the streets. I was really happy just by that alone.

Q. Closest K-Pop idol? Eunwoo: I’m close with the SEVENTEEN members. I respect SHINee and BTS sunbae-nims. I want to take after SHINee sunbae-nims in terms of their music style and as for BTS sunbae-nims, their passion is really cool!

Moonbin

Q. What are your memories from Japan? Moonbin: I’ve a vivid memory about their ramen. The beef stock was evident so it was delicious! And Korea doesn’t have a ticketing machine culture so that was pretty fascinating. I want to one day visit Sapporo when it’s winter. I’ve always thought their snow sculptures from their snow festival are pretty. I want to go to their hot springs too!

Q. Closest K-Pop idol? Moonbin: SEVENTEEN’s Boo Seungkwan. He has a really bright personality so we managed to grow close quickly. His bright facial expressions and his gestures are really of big help. iKON’s Chanwoo and myself are the same age and even share the same birthday. We were models for children’s clothing together during elementary school and we still keep in contact even now.

Rocky

Q. What are your memories from Japan? Rocky: I went to Don Quijote and there were so many prizes in one place that I was shocked! I was overwhelmed by the quantity so it was hard choosing a machine and I ended up just looking around. I still had fun though. Ah, I only bought konjac jelly!

Q. Closest K-Pop idol? Rocky: SF9’s Chani is a colleague who I share 6-7 years with ever since elementary school. I call him my friend for life. As for SEVENTEEN’s Dino, our groups had a lot of overlapping promotions cycles so I often saw him and we talk a lot with each other. We’re both in charge of dance so we connected.

Yoon Sanha

Q. What are your memories from Japan? Sanha: We bought a lot of snack at Don Quijote to eat all together at the hotel! Taking a picture with the Glico uncle as the background was also a good memory. I couldn’t replicate his pose (laughs).

Q. Closest K-Pop idol? Sanha: Wanna One’s Daehwi. We got closer over talking whenever our promotion cycles overlapped. Golden Child’s Bomin and THE BOYZ’s Sunwoo are from the same school as me. THE BOYZ’s Eric has been my friend since our trainee days! I went bowling with Bomin before heading off to Japan. It was his first time bowling so I taught him. My best score’s around 140? I’m not extremely good at it (laughs).

Caved in on getting a service industry job, in the middle of a fucking pandemic, even tho I'm high risk, bcs the pay was 1k, aka more than double the min wage (450) -which itself was recently doubled (200 smth) for the first time since the dawn of the planet- bcs the kind of money I could earn till oct would be crazy, for this country.

Even tho some of the demands were on the crazy side -no sit no phone, lie like ur a politician- the good was 6h shifts with 1 day off, an apartment 5mins away from the shop to live in for me and my sister -cause we both got in- with the possibility of another person joining later in the summer. Sounds great right?

Well, ofc it does, cause it was a lie. The pay was min wage, the apartment was not within stari grad but basically the outskirts tho that in itself is not really far away considering the size of the town. It had 6 ppl in it and the real possibility they would cram more in, even tho it was a size for 4 max, a broken shower which felt like it was gonna give under me and I'm 45kg so I don't know how the others managed to live with it. Not to mention, the bills were not payed for, and the electricity was insane, like 3 ppl paying 150 -bcs there were only 3 during the winter- when my 5person family pays 80 tops, and that's with the debt added on to the actual number. And the 6h shifts? They were 5 and an unpayed half hour one day, 7 and a half on another and then a 12h one to finish up. They even had the workers do double 12h shifts bcs of lack of ppl last year and we're supposed to trust that aint' happening this time?

What did they think? We'd stay for this scam if they kept mentioning the magical % which would really up the pay after the ssn starts, 2 months from now? When the max august of last year brought the worker with the highest sales was 700 which included russians, who make up the biggest tourist numbers, and are the big money spenders in the store, which ain't happening this year. Not to mention the majority owner being a russian who owns souvenir shops in more countries, and produces souvenirs with an entire wall being especially catered to russian clientele and entirely filled with overpriced different kinds of russian santas, which seem cheap to them bcs they have even more insane prices in Russia, and you're told to lie thru your teeth to other tourists about that being Sveti Nikola and that they're displayed in houses during the entire year bcs they 'protect sailors' or some other such bull. What a fucking lie, we don't even have santa here!! Santa comes for new year and I had no idea he was a Christmas thing till idk hs, we had Bozic bata and he leaves a gift in your shoes. Even christmas trees are not really Christmas, it's badnjak that's Christmas. A truly bizarre case of reverse cultural appropriation, in which a rich person is using their country's culture to make money, in a different country, by having min wage workers lie. No matter how you say there's gon be a lot of ships this year, if most of the ppl who buy the stupid expensive shit aka santas and ikone are russians who won't really be coming this summer, does that really matter? The only other thing that's mad expensive, are the ugliest fucking gusle I have ever seen, just the worst piece of work you can imagine, and big ships, and neither really sell, like at all.

Came back home the next day. Like, at least it all came out on the first night, and I didn't lose that much effort. The one good thing that came from sharing an apartment with other ppl who work or are on their probni rad, they did not hold back. Even told us we were lucky to not be put in the apartment that was within stari grad, bcs that one had 10ppl, and from what I heard during that day's shift -jer sam bila na obuci- that apartment didn't even have running water, and smn who just moved in there talked to another employee who is originally from the town, if there's anyone they know who can odvrne ventil.

#fucking ssnl jobs are supposed to pay well and have accomodation #that's why they're called ssnl #bcs u can earn more working them #what would b the rsn to go down to the coast if you wouldn't earn anything #fast food workers had a place to stay 3 meals a day and 7-800 last year #and that was bfr the whole min wage increase #room service is similair #and these bastards can barely reach that much after adding sale %#and fucking with shifts #one even told us #the only way to earn close to 1k #bcs my sister was still on the fence about it #tho i washed my hands of it as soon as i heard about the 12h #was if she was put in a one person store #and does double shift aka 12h #every time #bcs every time u work 12h u get double daily wage #and if u work 12h every day #u double your entire pay #aka go from 450 to 900 #but is smn crazy to work 12h days
