Sorry im not super active. It's like a week into fall seasonal depression hit and I'm just trying to find a new work from home job and get my life together

When I was 9 years old, I learned enough html to code neopets pages, my own geocities websites, and I even made forums on my own sites so my friends could all roleplay together or rant together lol. And then? I forgot so much. I no longer no how to make a forum, or even a 'next page' button - so even the dream of just making a simple blog or webnovel site feels like a huge hurdle now. (9 year old me could probably figure it out in 2 hours).

So I'm relearning! I figured this would be a fun post to place resources I find for coding, since there's coding languages, and I figure maybe if you like running you're blog then you also might be interested in tools for making blogs!

First, for those of you who miss the old geocities and angelfire type of sites to make your own free site on: neocities.org

You can make free sites you can code yourself, the way 9 year old me did. A lot of people have made SUCH amazing sites, it's baffling my mind trying to figure out how they did, I definitely wish I could make an art portfolio site even a fourth as cool as some of the sites people have made on here.

And for those pressed for time, who aren't about to learn coding right now: wix.com is the place I recommend for building a site, it requires no coding skill and is fairly straightforward about adding pages or features by clicking buttons. I used it to make my art portfolio site, I am testing out using it for my webnovel - the alternative is Wordpress, but wix.com is letting me basically make a wordpress blog Inside my own site. It's very beginner friendly in terms of "how the fuck do I set up a 'sign up for updates' message and have my site actually email these people my novel updates?" and "I need a 4x20 grid of my art down the page, that lets people click the art to see it's information and make it bigger."

I did neocities.org's little html tutorial today, it's the part of html I DID remember (links, paragraphs, headers).

My next step is to go through htmldog.com's tutorials. They go from beginner, to intermediate, to CSS. Unlike many a coding tutorial I've seen, they explain what program on your computer you need to WRITE the code in and then how to save it and how to open it. (You'd think this isn't a big deal but I've been looking into how to learn Python for months and I can't find a tutorial explaining what fucking program to write my python in... notepad? do I need something else? I don't fucking know!! My dad finally gave me a printed textbook which supposedly tells you what to download to start... I learned C++ in college and for that you needed Visual Basic to code C++, so I figured I needed Something to Write the fucking python IN.)

@ anyone who has learned python or is currently learning it: do you ever feel stupid? like. just dumb. I took an intro class on python and didn't really get it, and I'm trying to further my knowledge of it because I'm a CompSci major (& really interested in web development).

but it feels like no matter how many websites I go to or how many explanations I read, nothing clicks. I'm always at square 1 and I don't even know why! I feel so fucking stupid trying to learn this language. and then I feel even MORE stupid because, again, compsci major. yet im fucking terrible at compsci. fuck me.

He's a hopeless romantic. Like 20 confessions rejected? I like to think that he got so desperate for love that he started to go around the campus and declare his love to random beautiful women.

And he probably doesn't attend school a lot unless in rare times, and if he does? His classmates will probably say something like: "wow this is once in a lifetime! Take a picture!" Or something like that

I like to think he actually has abs beneath those loose clothing of his. I mean, he's literally a gang leader don't tell me he doesn't have abs underneath

And his god hideous hairstyle? Yeah he probably thought it was cool and got bullied a lot by it. Till this day he's embarrassed that he used to think that his ugly hairstyle was 'attractive'

And speaking of not knowing how to fight I think it's because panics internally that's why he stumbles a lot when fighting

im Cuban Puerto Rican, i speak both my mother tongue and English. kinda trying to get myself to learn German though. im a bit of an ambivert, i mostly enjoy spending time with those i know well.

im 5’2, i have a huge scar in my left leg due to an accident i had when i was younger. i have brown, nearly black eyes and i use glasses. i have a mole near my collarbone and another one just above. my hair is brown and medium sized with some side-tails.

currently studying with a forensic sciences major, a bit of a nerd.. i enjoy drawing, reading Sci-Fi and spending time with my pet snakes. (their ball pythons, they are super adorable…) i absolutely love heavy metal bands like Rammstein, korn, Slipknot, i listen to Type O Negative, Slaughter to Prevail from time to time aswell alongside jazz. i dress in a bit of a grunge way, it varies since i enjoy fashion a lot.

i enjoy watching true crimes series (Forensic Files being an all time favorite), watching Caso Cerrado, and documentaries regarding military history. i love the rainy weather and from time to time going to the beach. truly calming, really.

Cheap custom backgrounds?

Hi! Want to give your enclosure something like this?

Well let me help you do this in a affordable way to give your animal some new enrichment and climbing opportunities!! Theres a misconception fancy backgrounds are hard to do or are expensive to do. This is... Very much not true! So lets do the one above together! Heres an overview of the supplies you'll need: -Your Enclosure of choice -Cocofiber and Sphagnum moss(OPTIONAL, can opt to paint) -Aquarium grade Silicone -Great stuff pond and Stone -Cork bark, roots, sticks, small rocks(OPTIONAL) First things first, you're going to want an enclosure.

This is a DUBIA 4ftX2ftx2ft[LengthsXwidthXHeight), Also known as a 48"L x 24"W x 24"H(Inches) or a 120 Gallon Enclosure. This is considered the researched minimum size for common exotics like Ball pythons, Corn snakes, Bearded Dragons and the like to thrive. *Disclaimer: Im aware there is several groups and movements who are pushing for a 5x3x2(ft) minimum for Bearded dragons, I ultimately agree with them and the advancement of exotic keeping, but a Bearded won't suffer in a 4x2x2. Dubia Enclosures are some of the cheapest in the market, however they're decent for the price. They are stackable which makes it great for saving space, but please note they can NOT hold a lot of weight, so be mindful of that.

I own 3 of these. Two Version 1s and on Version 2, which is the one above. The V2s are generally nicer in design in my opinion, theyre functional more importantly. Once you have your enclosure of choice, lay it on its back as shown in in the first image. Next, you're going to want to prep your dry background. I use Organic Cocofiber and Sphagnum moss. I buy these extremely cheaply from Home depot or in bulk off Amazon. Make sure your material is COMPLETELY DRY! It will NOT stick if it has any moisture. Break apart your Cocofiber block and mix it with your dried Sphagnum moss in a container and have it ready on the side. I use the bulk Coco fiber, which costs about $23 for 5 bricks on Amazon. You can get them cheaper if you dont buy bulk, I do a lot of gardening and have a lot enclosures so its easier for me! https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Coco-Coir-Bricks-Compressed/dp/B01N1YP8O6?th=1 for a 4x2x2, I only use 2 bricks. Likewise, I buy Bulk moss for the same reason: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BK7XMNWL?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder_k0_1_10&amp=&crid=1RDHFNSAUX0DF&sprefix=spaghnum%2Bm&th=1 You will only need. ONE BRICK. For the Sphagnum moss. Maybe even less than a brick. You're going to want to wet this then dry it before use. Dont be me. Dont be fooled over how small and thin those moss bricks are. I made the mistake of trying to wet an entire brick and I had to use a deep soup pot to contain it. It *explodes*. You will be buried in moss. You will scream and cry and beg for mercy as you are overwhelmed by the amount of moss Expanding from a singular brick. I am not exaggerating, I learned my lesson, please god, do not make the same mistakes I made. I still have. So, so much moss. Sometimes I still find Moss from my Mossaggeden. NOTE: Please make sure to use organic, and do not used DYED moss! Double check your ingredients, Dyed moss can be toxic to your animals! Next,

Silicone time, baby! You're going to want to use Aquarium grade Silicone from Home depot, please double check to make sure you're getting Aquarium grade! This will cost you a whopping $3 At Homedepot. The Caulking gun was an additional $12 if you dont have one already, however, it is re-usable so its a great one time purchase because I use that bad boy for a lot of my projects lmao. Once you struggle to open your stupid bottle of Silicone without exploding it like I have on several occasions; time to be silly!

We're going to Silicone this bad boy up reaaaaal good. Dont be me, USE GLOVES! It makes your life so much better I promise. So why are we doing this exactly? Its simple, this will help your background last! It gives it texture and helps the spray foam stay in place. It also keeps your background from peeling so easily, texture matters! Your hands going to be very tired after this. Youre going to want to leave this alone for the next 24-48 hours. Minimum. You want your silicone to dry and want to make sure the smell is gone before continuing to the next step!

This is the funnest part. Spray foam time! For the 4x2x2, I use about 3 Bottles of this stuff. Make sure you're using NON-TOXIC Spray foam! Pond and Stone is my favorite to work with. When I add things into the background, I make sure to have a 4th can of this stuff on me. This will be the most pricey part about it. Lowes has it for $12-14 a can, but its $15 a can on Amazon. This is really the only big 'expense' when it comes to backgrounding. Smaller enclosures use less, but bigger enclosures will need more. !!!!!!!THE NEXT STEPS NEED TO BE DONE TOGETHER!!!!!!!! Youre going to want to be fast about it if youre using my method. Start spraying random patterns into the background. Youre going to want to make sure youre covering every inch of the enclosure, you can do zigzags, cut it into triangles, squares, it doesnt matter. Different shapes give you different background textures, so go nuts!!! Dont leave space between the foam, and go ham. Theres no wrong way to do this. Once thats done though, you're going to want to do the next step IMMEDIATELY:

Adding your background texture and features!! This step MUST be done while the spray foam is still wet. First, take any rocks, cork, sticks, ext if youre adding them and shove them into the background. Dont have money to pay for expensive Reptile decor? You can sanitize your own rocks and sticks from outside yourself for free. I will make a guide about how I do that soon ahah. Press any features you want into the spray foam background nice and firm, then use the extra to spray around the items to secure them in place. Once you got your features in, its time to take your pre-prepped background and begin pouring it in! Spread it evenly across the enclosure. Do NOT worry if you have excess, poor it in anyway. Once you've poured the background in. GENTLY pat it over the sprayfoam. Next, you'll want to leave this to dry for the next 24 hours minimum. Leave it laying on its back so nothing drips or sags where you dont want it to!!! After 24hours, lift the enclosure and gently tap the back of it to knock off your excess background to reveal your background!

Annnnnnd you're done!!! Now you're free to add your lighting, real or fake plants, heating, substrate and other decor as you please! This can add so much more enrichment to your animal and give them so much more room to utalize their space. My individual personally loves his background and utilizes it all of the time! Contrary to belief, a lot of snakes aren't 'pet rocks' if you give them stuff to explore and climb. My guys out pretty often! Of course it comes down to personality too ahah.

im currently a data analytics major in uni and currently learning python! i’m currently doing well grasping the concepts with the reading and writing it down. however, i know its better to learn to code by actually..writing code.

I read that I should follow a random code (like a snake game or something) and then copy it and write it code for code but then change some things up etc (i hope that makes sense how im asking this)

is there any websites that show an actual code and then I can just copy and follow that to learn? or how should I go about learning to actually write code and not get stuck in “tutorial hell” ?

When I was learning back 3 years ago, I did more the "watching videos + replicate the code" method to learning how to plan, build and deploy projects, even with the very beginner project videos! I didn't do much searching online for projects in maybe articles, blog posts, etc and replicate it. However, that was because I learn more in seeing than reading - that's why I'm bad at reading documentation(!) (I would search for video explainations to the documentations...).

I know on my blog I promote "don't idly watch tutorial videos all the time and actually start coding" kind of mindset but I'm not completely disregarding the benefits of watching such tutoiral videos. Seeing how other people's approach to a project idea is great! One project idea, hundreds of approaches to it!

Take notes while following tutorials. Write down what you learn and how you solve problems in your project. This will solidify your understanding and serve as a reference later.

Once you grasp the basics from a tutorial, experiment within your version of the project. Try modifying the code, adding features, and see what happens. This is where the real learning happens. LITERALLY HOW I LEARNED.

[Jan 22 to 28 ; week 4/52 || I. love. my. internship. like. I have been having the most fun time problem solving and troubleshooting. it's also super satisfying to see the outcome of my code. it's been a while since I used python (I've been coding on C) so I forget that python has a lot of inbuilt functions that would do the same tasks I inadvertently entrust my nested loops with, and finding out about them is always so joyous (although it means I have to scrap off several chunks of code). i am a bit annoyed though, because the other intern isn't really doing any work that we're entrusted with so I'm having to carry the team and it's taking me too much time. but oh well. I've suggested we split tasks from next week, hopefully that'll make things better.

I've also been procrastinating a lot when it comes to my masters applications and it really hit me this week when I had to run to uni several times to get things approved and completed. Now that I'll get to work from home I need to set up a proper schedule to get application work completed wayy in advance. also need to resume my GRE prep from next week.]

i like dinosaurs, bugs, and all sorts of other things in that ballpark!! my favorite subject is science, but i love to learn no matter what the subject is!! ive been procrastinating a bit, but i sometimes play guitar at a begginer level :) i also have a pet ball python named pearl and i love her with all my heart (*´꒳`*)

some fandoms im in are: the umbrella academy, stranger things, sherlock + sherlock and co., csi: miami, and many more!!

my favorite color is the yellow-y orange up above but i love a couple shades in all colors

stream of consciousness about the new animation vs. coding episode, as a python programmer

holy shit, my increasingly exciting reaction as i realized that yellow was writing in PYTHON. i write in python. it's the programming language that i used in school and current use in work.

i was kinda expecting a print("hello world") but that's fine

i think using python to demonstrate coding was a practical choice. it's one of the most commonly used programming languages and it's very human readable.

the episode wasn't able to cram every possible concept in programming, of course, but they got a lot of them!

fun stuff like print() not outputting anything and typecasting between string values and integer values!!

little things like for-loops and while-loops for iterating over a string or list. and indexing! yay :D

and then they started importing libraries! i've never seen the turtle library but it seems like it draws vectors based on the angle you input into a function

the gun list ran out of "bullets" because it kept removing them from the list gun.pop()

AND THEN THE DATA VISUALIZATION. matplotlib!! numpy!!!! my beloved!!!!!!!! i work in data so this!!!! this!!!!! somehow really validating to me to see my favorite animated web series play with data. i think it's also a nice touch that the blue on the bars appear to be the matplotlib default blue. the plot formatting is accurate too!!!

haven't really used pygame either but making shapes and making them move based on arrow key input makes sense

i recall that yellow isn't the physically strongest, but it's cool to see them move around in space and i'm focusing on how they move and figure out the world.

and then yellow cranks it to 100,000 to make a neural network in pytorch. this gets into nlp (tokenizers and other modeling)

a CLASS? we touch on some object oriented programming here but we just see the __init__ function so not the full concept is demonstrated here.

OH! the "hello world" got broken down into tokens. that's why we see the "hello world" string turn into numbers and then... bits (the 0s and 1s)? the strings are tokenized/turned into values that the model can interpret. it's trying to understand written human language

and then an LSTM?! (long short-term memory)

honestly, the scrolling through the code goes so fast, i had to do a second look through (i'm also not very deeply versed in implementing neural networks but i have learned about them in school)

things i wanna do next since im so hyped

i haven't drawn for the fandom in a long time, but i feel a little motivated to draw my design of yellow again. i don't recall the episode using object oriented programming, but i kinda want to make a very simple example where the code is an initialization of a stick figure object and the instances are each of the color gang.

it wouldn't be full blown AI, but it's just me writing in everyone's personality traits and colors into a function, essentially since each stick figure is an individual program.
