well fbdkdk we all like to joke about mitch's daddy issues.. and even though it's all just speculation, it does something to you when you feel like a parent's love is conditional!! i would know. it's a very relatable part of him to me personally, and it's a part that can get ugly (which isn't the most fun to speculate abt in a fandomy sense) so i don't blame anyone for wanting to look at it from such a lighthearted perspective like. i do it too and in the end, he is a millionaire with little material concern in this life from now on most likely so!! i also just think like. if any person on this team were most likely to Snap in any meaningful way... it would be him. like he's done and been everything Traditional Hockey would want from him and it's still not enough to get people off his back, fans media family alike. his teammates can break sticks over the bench and people "love their passion" but mitch goes down the hallway to do it out of everyones eyeshot and its a story for a week? idk. he is handled differently from everyone else on the leafs, and i cant imagine how it is to be this hometown boy who can never do anything right by some standards.... who think the only team he's ever really known would be better without him?? who wouldn't doubt their place or contemplate the drastic when theyre someone who lets others opinions get to them?? like when your self image already suffers but your have people piling on... you're telling me there's nothing internally dark about that???????

As it turns out, Ena's definition of a "high stakes meeting" ended up being something totally different by the time you arrived to the destination.

Of course..you should have expected this out of your girlfriend. She wanted to take you out on a date, but she could never simply say "let's go out". No sir..

She had to give you coordinates on paper to this exact location, attaching files that looked like they were printed off a PowerPoint with step-by-step instructions on how to reach it. She claimed she heard about this place "from a friend of a friend of a friend", although she didn't elaborate anymore than that. You didn't want nor need her to.

When you finally made it, you were surprised to be standing in front of a simple steak restaurant with a bar inside. Nothing fancy or inexpensive. Just plain and simple, with exterior western aesthetics to boot.

'Ah, high "steaks" meeting..I get it now.' An amused smile graced your lips as you pushed the door open, seeing no line and nobody except Ena talking to the host.

But upon closer examination, you realize she's not talking...

She's yelling.

"I cannot serve you yet, ma'am! Didn't you read the sign?"

"NO, BUT I SEE SEVERAL HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS ALREADY! YOU WANNA GET SHUTDOWN?! REBRANDED?? I SUGGEST YOU GIVE ME AND MY ASSOCIATE A TABLE STAT!!" Her Meanie side snarls, geometric claws gripping the podium, almost like she's ready to rip it off its hinges. "OR I'LL DEVALUE THIS PROPERTY WITH MY OWN TWO HANDS!!"

'Typical Ena..' You sigh.

It was never easy dating her. Nothing about her says it'd be easy at all. But you were willing to stick through the difficult times--the times when a seemingly "normal" day ends up being the opposite.

Apparently, tonight wasn't going to be an exception.

"Like I said, I cannot seat a party of two if both entities aren't present-"

"I'm the other party member! Excuse my partner. She's had a...rough day at work."

Ena blinked, spinning around to see you have finally arrived, and her Salesperson side grinned with relief. "Oh you made it! I knew you would." She took your hands, before looking back at the host. Her expression was smug. "Now...about our table for two, good sir?"

"....of course. Right this way, Kena."

"This was..very sweet of you to plan out, Ena. The food was great. But don't you think you were being a little harsh with the host? I mean...he's not the owner. He's just following the rules."

"I wouldn't care if he was the owner in disguise..I went through hell to get this reservation.." Meanie grumbled, her fork stabbing at the holographic png of a steak on her plate. "They didn't even wanna put my name on the list. How crazy is that?!!"

"Well...that's-" You started, only for her to put the utensil down and clap her hands.

"No, no..it's alright. I'm over it. It's all said and done. There's a more important matter at hand..." Her Salesperson's charm returned, her smile gentle. "I'd like to take this opportunity to renew our contract. You may find additional details that you oughta review."

Out of thin air, she presented you with a document on a clipboard, which you took. "I'm open to questions, comments, and concerns..but no criticism, please."

The moment you read it, you realized it was the confession letter she had given you several months ago. When words failed her back then, she just had you review this "contract" and wanted your signature of approval--and yes, that included your actual signature with a pen.

You remember how much of a flustered mess she was, mumbling to herself and fighting with her Meanie side over whether you'd see her "potential" and commit to her business wholly.

It took her a solid minute before she realized you signed and dated the paper, accepting her confession.

Now, you noticed that she stapled on a few more pages. They all contained ideas for future dates, written in typical business jargon that anyone else wouldn't understand--but for you, it was easy to decode.

"High stakes meetings" translated to going to a restaurant, such as where you both were tonight.

"Taking inventory on cosmic horrors and astronomical anomalies across the infinite horizon" was basically her way of asking you to go stargazing with her over the lake of viscous blood.

At the start, you've been worried that she wasn't taking this relationship as seriously as you did. You didn't know if she'd just treat you more like a business partner than a romantic one, but....this immediately cleared those doubts from your mind.

She was in this for the long run.

She wanted to deliver on her promises of "100% happiness for life" and make you feel like the most important person in her world.

"Well, you have my signature of approval." You chuckled softly, signing the bottom of the first page and sliding it back to her side. "Now then, did you want dessert or-?"

"I AM DRATULA!!!"

From a dark cloud of smoke and lightning, a certain half-penguin, half-vampire entity appeared. He was buzzed out of his mind as he swung a full wine glass around, laughing obnoxiously, before he accidentally bumped into the table.

Large droplets of red liquid splattered onto the paper, soaking it entirely to where the text was illegable.

"No!! NOOOO! Wha...What have you done?!!" Ena could only watch in utter despair and horror as it dissolved into nothingness. "Our contract!! It's....It's all ruined!! And it's--ALL YOUR FAULT!!!"

Fueled by Meanie's anger, she slammed both fists on the table and got up, glaring at the confused Dratula.

"Uhh..was I interrupting something?"

"YEAH!! OUR DATE, YOU ASSHOLE!!" Grabbing the lapels of his suit, she began shaking him back and forth violently, yelling nonsense as he tried to frantically defend himself.

Somehow, he thought uttering his name over and over would help matters.

It didn't.

Meanwhile, the other restaurant patrons have gone silent and were staring at the two. Some of them even look at you, and the secondhand embarrassment had grown tenfold.

You sighed, cleaning off your hands before getting up, knowing you had to disperse this before all three of you got kicked out.

"Come on, Ena. That's enough." By some miracle, you managed to separate them, keeping them at arms length.

Dratula looked frightened, while Ena looked a feral cat who didn't wanna give up a fight, snarling and hissing threats to him. "LET ME AT HIM, BABE!! I'LL TEACH THIS OLD BAT A LESSON-!!"

"I said that's enough!! You're causing a big scene!!"

Hearing your angered tone, she abruptly ceased all motions, her head slowly turning to you. For a brief moment, your expression showed nothing but pure frustration, but even though it disappeared quickly, it lingered long enough to make her feel absolutely horrible.

Her Meanie side gulped, for once looking intimidated rather than being the intimidating one. 'They...They got mad at me...' Her hands trembled, and she backed away from you.

Then you looked at Dratula, who was now staring into his wine glass, disappointed that most of it was gone. "How rude...I only wanted to ask how your date was going! I wasn't looking for trouble!"

"It was going good..until you spilled your drink everywhere." You huffed. "But it's fine. I know it was an accident. Ena and I were just...." But when you looked over your shoulder, you didn't find her by your side anymore. "Crap. Where'd she go?"

"Huh...beats me. Say, are you going to finish that?" He pointed to the untouched drink on your side of the table. You shook your head and sighed, digging up some chocolates and a fatty catty from your pocket, setting it down on top of the check that somehow appeared during the chaos.

However much the bill was, you didn't care. You were more worried about where your girlfriend ran off to.

Fortunately, the patrons who were watching the show were now minding their own business. As soon as the waiter came by to collect the check, you thanked him for the service and bid Dratula farewell, going off to search for Ena.

You eventually found her up at the bar all alone, with her hat on the floor, and several empty shot glasses to her right. 'Damn..how did she drink that much in such a short time?'

But as you got closer, you could hear her wallowing to the poor bartender about the events that transpired merely minutes ago.

"A-And...and then they yelled at me! Sayin' I caused a big scene!" Her Meanie side hiccupped, slinging back another shot before slamming it down.

"Well um...you kinda did.."

"I'm the worst, aren't I?" Her forehead collided with the table, her sclera turning black. "Why does every good thing I try to do for 'em go to shit?! I must be cursed...a victim of capitalism who can't afford one moment of respite. Damn it all!!" She banged her clawed fist down, sniffling. "Maybe I'm not cut out for this business.."

"You forgot something."

Feeling the familiar hat being placed on her, she turned her head to see you on the barstool beside hers. You set a hand on her back, giving the bartender an apologetic smile. "You can close her tab. She's had enough."

"There's that buzzword again....."enough". I bet all my life savings that you've had enough of me, right?"

Looking down at her once more, you sighed. "Ena, that's not what-"

"This night...'wuz supposed to be perfect for you. 100% satisfaction with guaranteed happiness. But all I've gotten was....negative feedback from my most valued client. Forgive me, m-my..my most treasured colleague.." She sounded like she was about to cry, her eyes turning glossy. "My heart's going through a recession, and my liver has no resale value. Would you like a refund on your experience?"

Her Salesperson side never sounded so....upset, and you frowned, hating to see her look so guilty; so ashamed for letting herself get out of hand again--and above all else, so afraid that you were mad at her because of that.

"Sweetheart, it's alright. I'm sorry I got angry earlier. I had a good time tonight. I really did." You comforted, rubbing her back. "But how about...I choose the place next time?"

"..but...but our contraaaaact..." She whined, her meanie and salesperson voices blending into one for a moment. "'s gone down the drain..like our stock.."

"It's not null and void just because the paper got ruined. We can draft a new one together, and....maybe have it laminated so that doesn't happen again."

Those words seemed to bring the spark back to her eyes, as she sat up and gave you the sweetest yet most lopsided grin. She grasped your hands, the stool's legs wobbling--yet somehow she was able to hold herself steady.

"Your strategic mind never fails to impress me, [y/n]. I promise..I'll pick up the tab at our next endeavor." She winked, before her Meanie side glared at the bartender. "HEY! Bring my partner here the best of the best!!"

"...I, erm..already closed your tab at their request, miss."

"Why I oughta-!!"

Before things could escalate for the third time tonight, you gave her paler side a kiss on the cheek, and she turned back to you, looking absolutely flustered. "A-Ah...you...I...." But she couldn't find the words.

"Why don't we go home?" You calmly suggested. "The sooner we work on that contract, the better."

"....f-fine."

For once, Meanie was complacent in what you wanted to do. So after paying the tab (by offering the bartender a fatty catty), you had to escort your drunken girlfriend home--which was an experience in itself as she nearly threw hands with Dratula again on her way out.

But she gave up quickly and opted to cling to you and brag about how awesome you were for "putting up" with an "economical disaster" like her.

Would you go out to dinner with her again? Definitely.

Will you have countermeasures in-place to minimize the amount of chaos that may inevitably occur? Also yes.

Dropping Byler Evidence Every (Other) Day Until Season 5

. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . Day 35: D&D Substitute Scene . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ .

The D&D substitute scene, aka the scene where Mike and Dustin attempt to persuade random people into being Lucas's replacement, is packed full of queer coding for Mike -- alongside the small shot we get of his bedroom, this scene is supposed to be filled with subtle hints about Mike's character arc this season, particularly about him questioning his sexuality.

The first episode aims to show you what conflicts Mike has in his life before he goes to California, otherwise him acting weird in California would have little context (in a writing sense).

The first part is when Mike bursts in to find Nancy -- when I first watched this back in 2022, girl I thought he was SOOO weird for just standing there and looking around. I figured it was super unnecessary and awkward (maybe just a goofy thing to get a laugh), but they wouldn't have included that for no reason.

Like ^^?? There was no reason for the shot of other people and the whole room unless it for the purpose of showing little details. At first when I decided to examine the scene, I didn't really expect to find anything at all, but if u look closely in the first picture, there's literally a pride flag on one of the items on the table.

Of course, you can't only rely on this little detail for queer coding because there are also other aspects of this scene that we must consider:

At the beginning Mike looks completely frozen in place, like he hadn't been expecting this many people or he's embarrassed. They all look around at him which is supposed to symbolise (imo) his thoughts about the pressure he's feeling to figure himself out, or how seen he feels, in terms of his queerness. (bear with me it all links)

There is ticking in the background, which is supposed to emphasise how long Mike is taking to look around the room.

Nancy is literally in the middle of the room -- How did Mike not see her immediately?

Ergo, he was distracted by something and looking at other people. Mike's literally questioning his sexuality at the beginning of the season anyway, carrying on from the end of S3. The people in the room are all staring at him as if to say -- "who are you going to choose" or something.

You might think this is a reach that Mike is looking at them carefully and considering, but the camerawork literally emphasises the fact that Mike is looking around at these people very purposefully:

The camera pans quickly like it's supposed to be from his perspective. This is one of the only scenes in which we get his pov in the whole season. And when we do, it's literally Mike panicking about questioning his sexuality. (And for all the bisexual Mike truthers out there, this is definitely proof on that front too, I mean look.)

Okay brace urself because the next part with Mike in it is the most classic 80s-referential queer coding I've seen in my life. Idk why I ever watched this scene without getting the feeling that something is gay about this boy, anyways:

Remember this random extra in the background of Will's solo shot? Super unnecessary to wear this shirt right?

This is supposed to be queercoding for Will, which makes sense because he is canonically confirmed gay in S4, but this hilariously links back to this scene in episode 1:

Wrestling is a contact sport - and this is the very first shot of the next Mike scene, rather than Mike himself. This is basically supposed to kind of highlight the uhhhh queer things that are going on in Mike's head, which is even more interesting when you look at the shot facing Mike:

Not them literally having pairs of men in the background of this shot - it's not even just men by themselves which would be queercoding in itself, but they're all in pairs, as in a M/M couple - i don't get how this was needed unless it's for the purpose of showing Mike questioning his sexuality. If you think about it, the writers and creators chose which parts of the school Dustin and Mike went to pick up a substitute, and it's not just random that they not only decided to put Mike in this situation but have men in tight wrestling gear in the background cmon--

If you think about Dustin being in this scene, it really doesn't make any sense anymore.

Oh yeah and this otherwise unnecessary 5 second POV shot of boys doing this (on the right) definitely doesn't mean anything for what Mike's sexuality is sure yeah yeah...

For the next part, Mike goes to a science lab, which...you might think I'm going to rattle off about this being a symbol for him wanting to 'experiment' with his thoughts and feelings (AND I COULD DO THAT) but this scene doesn't even need me to say much, especially when they have shots like this in it:

There are many things about this scene that imply queercoding:

On one side of Mike there are only boys (particularly two of them), and on the other side there are two girls. I again have to justify myself and say that this isn't just a coincidence. That should be queer coding for a questioning 15 year old boy enough but...

There is literally a sign in the background saying "Women in science" to further highlight the difference between the two opposing sides in Mike's head. This could be bisexual proof, but in my opinion...

The set designers set up a light coming in through the window for a reason. You could try and say it was to make the scene look nicer, but it's clearly lighting up which side Mike prefers, while the side he doesn't is in the shade.

Also there's something about him saying "That's just bullshit media propaganda" whilst being put in a very queer situation that gets me.

The boy at the science table also says "60 minutes begs to differ", which is a very specific line and typical of the time period. The date is 21st of March. Now, if you're well-versed in the lore I'm sure you know where this is going:

The last aired 60 minutes show according to the date - was about the AIDS crisis in America, particularly about the gay community in San Francisco. I'm sure I don't need to say anything more about this significance.

After the guy says that, the experiment goes up in like sparks and flames and I'm sorry to be so so on the nose (though that's kind of the show's fault) but....

I don't know why else they would have had those flames be so prominently in front of Mike's whole torso and head, revealing him to be there after the flames die down if not for this double meaning.

All in all, if we consider that this short scene has this much packed into it, I really can't question the capabilities of the directors and writers to subtly queercode a character (if he is canonically queer next season). Within a minute, Mike is shown to look frozen with pressure as he questions his sexuality, directly put in the pubescent context of gay thoughts (lol), and put in the middle of two options to show which one he has a preference for.

My bad if the question is silly, but can I identify as honeybee transfem, while being "technically AMAB" (I'm intersex, but lean towards male a whole lot more)? Yeah, you totally could!! Honeybee transfem is a deliberately AGAB-less term! While this obviously has lead to a decent grouping of transfems AFAB using it because traditionally the label "transfeminine" is expected the users of it to be AMAB, honeybee transfem (+ coffee bean transmasc) is a label that foregoes the expectation for birth assignment altogether. So it includes transfems AMAB too.

Also your question isn't silly at all, and your wording is fine! No mistakes imo. You didn't really ask for this also lol but based on your wording you might like and benefit from the term close-to-male/CTM (link) too to describe urself... anyways!! ive been enabled so let me share some of my thoughts on how to get ur art noticed online

if u want Engagement on ur posts then i believe that its critical to make people care about ur art. the easiest way to do this is to appeal to something they already care about, like fandom, aesthetics/subculture, current events, having fun (people love humor!). a harder but perhaps more fulfilling route is to talk about ur own ocs and projects enough until people start caring about them too

theres an infinite amount of topics people care about out there so id suggest picking something u already care about urself and channel ur art energy there. trying to make art for the most popular things out there regardless own interests is an exercise in misery, id advise against it..! if im allowed to get superstitious for a moment, i do believe that even untrained eyes can tell whether a piece of art was fun to work on or a chore. and besides! if ur having fun then its easier to create more, and the more u create the more chances ull have at getting lucky and having a post seen :)

on a very related note, art is a way to communicate ideas so the quality of the idea being presented in a piece of art is paramount to how popular a post will be. what i mean by this is that technical skill isnt the primary determinant of a posts popularity. if all your posts are portraits of original characters then people will have a hard time connecting with your posts and theyll keep scrolling, even if those portraits are masterpieces! the major exception to this is probably other artists, who ive found usually have a greater appreciation for the technical side of art (we can only speculate as to why..!)

lemme finish by saying that making popular posts and being good at art are two entirely different skillsets, ive seen many incredibly skilled artists with jack shit for notes because they dont give people a reason to care about their stuff NOT TO MENTION its a huge game of luck whether a post will get seen. so dont go insane in pursuit of recognition!

here we have a portrait of my fursona that im still proud of and a sketch suggesting "what if sniffers (from minecraft) were the size of mountains?" (let it be noted that the sniffer sketch was posted right during the minecraft mob vote = peak interest in the subject of sniffers).

the portrait at the time of writing has a crisp 30 notes, whilst the sniffer sketch has over 2000 notes. from the same artist, on the same blog, posted only a few months apart. i believe this is a good example both of the power of a piece of art having an interesting idea at its core AND of a piece appealing to the interests of the masses

this is of course just two convenient example posts, but i have experienced fan art of popular topics getting thousands of notes a couple of times now, amidst my other furry shit that these days get around 200-300 notes in comparison

this may sound like a really long winded way of saying "fan art make the world go round" but i just want to point out the nuances that

1) it matters what u make fan art of: if a fandom is small or dormant (waiting on new canon content for example) then clearly less people will be excited about the fan art you make. dont expect 10k notes on ur post if the average recent post in the fandom gets around 200 etc etc

2) it doesnt have to be fan art! ive also had some of my bird art get thousands of notes because people simply like birds :) and this applies to ANY topic people care about! the world rly is your oyster on this one

anyway i think ive started rambling dhgdjhgd thanks if u read this far! i hope i got my point across! and if ur feeling down about ur art not being seen then just keep at it okay! keep creating and keep having fun! keep sharing ur ideas and perspectives with the world and ur audience will eventually find u! i love you!

HEY, thief of doom here, 1st i totally agree that way more eople should 8e picking classes like this, especially with how interesting they are, 2nd i picked this class 8ecause of ego mostly, since i believed i was a witch or rogue for a certain amount of time 8ut rogues are way too, like, unsure of tbeir aspect to be a thief, and witches revolve more around understanding and manipulating something rather than just taking it and using it, when it comes to 8eing a thief of doom specifically it mostly has to do with "always facing great misfortune" and the fact that it relates to things like fate & death also which very surprising are very important themes in my life, like, i kid you not, this shit GENUINELY leads me through life, which i guess makes sense 8ut is still kinda crazy to think, idk if i should go more into detail into what a thief of doom would do in s8ur8 or what theyre like specifically so imma just wrap it up here, so thanks if you read this!

hell yeah thieves. i think a lot of ppl are scared to touch the “active” classes that textually act in self-benefit, bc we’re taught that having “an ego” & wanting to behave fully independently/in our own self interest is inherently wrong. there isn’t anything wrong with that, there’s a difference between that & being a complete asshole. unfortunately the archetypal thief is the easiest for ppl to place on this axis by its very conception. it’s easy to assign to a character, but not to a person u think is kind, & *especially* not urself.

i think ppl are more open to being a witch, for example, because the “good witch” has more of a presence in media (including homestuck itself) while still feelin distinctly witchlike. in most media, including the systems homestuck is inspired by, rogues/thieves are easily conflated. a lot of ppl would say a “morally good thief” is just “a rogue”. eg robin hood. & nobody wants to be “the bad one”, that’s not good…! consider how popular the rogue class has been in these polls by comparison.

it’s a limitation of the godtier system that is intentional & effective in-comic with fictional characters, but when it’s lifted into the massive nuance of “real human beings” it can buckle under the weight.

we get a rlly limited scope for how certain classes can act w/in a narrative. damara vs jade, or rufioh vs roxy, i think are good examples of how differently a single class can present/act based on the person & their circumstances. myself & one of my closest friends, who also chooses witch (of life/heart), are *extremely* different ppl. i see no reason that a thief can’t vary just as much. i’m not trying to arbitrate how an irl thief guy should be, or anything, i just… hypothesize this is the reason they’re not picked often. folks are basically decent, & most ppl (including assholes) don’t wanna walk around saying “i’m an asshole”. feel like i’ve seen ppl who pick prince talk abt having this issue too. but they have dirk as an avenue to *easily* understanding the prince w/ more nuance to their role & personality.

& im not saying vriska lacks nuance. i’m not saying i hate vriska. i’m saying she’s easy to view without nuance & easy to hate. just like a thief. & with all this, it seems reasonable 2 me to expect that only people who rlly love/relate to vriska would feel comfortable openly picking thief. a very exclusive class… maybe it works out after all.

shadow work is a form of journalling that focuses on confronting our "shadows" or parts of us that we dont know well, to help kind of understand ourselves better, why we respond to certain situations the way we do etc. it rly dives into urself and ur shadows.

HOT TIP ; if u search shadow work prompts on pinterest they have some rly rly good prompts, thats where i get all of my prompts. i also have a couple posts that include shadow work prompts…💬🎀

the most common way i see people do shadow work, and the way i do it, is by using shadow work prompts and choosing a few that resonate with me. i'd answer the prompt in depth and talk about it in my journal. shadow work has helped me heal in so many ways and i highly recommend it if ur thinking about starting to do shadow work every now and then.

WHAT DO U STRUGGLE WITH ;

recognizing what triggers you and things that u struggle with help you to identify the underlying source. this is called being more aware of urself, so i challenge u to dig deeper into urself and try and find out what the BIG idea is.

some things to take note of when ur trying to identify the deeper reasons for ur behaviors, feelings etc is to look at…💬🎀

♡ what is something that i think of all the time/why do i think that all the time

by also looking at ur biggest fears, ur strongest opinions and ur deeply held values u can kind of understand what u value most and where ur insecurities and fears stem from. something that u can also look to is the things that u regret...

STRUGGLE WITH REGRET ;

first off, understand that u should recognize, reflect and then move on because living in a past moment is stagnant and u can't expect urself to heal if ur doing so. the only thing that u rly can do is heal from it and learn from whatever u regret so much so that then in the future u dont repeat those same things.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING GENTLE WITH URSELF ;

practice self compassion!! i swear everyone is so kind to literally everyone EXCEPT for themselves. give urself a break and humanize urself. u can do this by allowing urself to make mistakes and forcing urself out of the shame cycle. you are allowed to make mistakes cuz your human!! stop being so hard on urself.

furthermore remembering to be gentle with urself can cultivate a better relationship with self. acknowledge ur feelings and remember that whatever emotions ur feeling are totally normal and valid. doing things like…💬🎀

♡ journalling and nurturing urself, ur being gentle with urself and to me thats rly important when embarking on ur self healing journey

WAYS TO SHOW URSELF THAT U CARE ;
