The envy Arthur and Lancelot would have had for each other must have been insane.

Because Merlin is secretive with Lancelot. He tells him things he would never tell Arthur, he opens up to him and Arthur knows he can never have that trust. Never have that closeness not while he’s king and Merlin a servant.

But to Lancelot he’s been secretive about protecting Arthur. It all resolves around Arthur, opening up about protecting Arthur, giggling over using magic to please Arthur. Lancelot knows it will never be him on the other side of the devotion not like this.

just like he will never be Gwen’s because she loved him once yes but at the end of the day it’s Arthur she chooses.

and in Arthur’s eyes Lancelot is Gwen’s first love will always be known as such and will always be looked at as such even if she loves him she loved Lancelot first and Arthur can’t help but think if she could have him she would.

Anyway I’m so sane about them and at the end of the day how they still understand why it’s like this because they would choose the other as well.

Like no action, no violence, no plot, just two people living their lives and having conversations about home renovations.

my professor (in my arthurian literature class) was talking about not using fan-wikis/fanfiction for the character profiles we were doing and then she brought up that there are a lot shipping Merlin and Arthur and everyone was like shocked/found it kinda funny and I was sitting there like oh … this is suddenly not a safe space lol

Happy TENTH anniversary of BBC Merlin’s ending. In that time, not only has it remained a popular show, but it’s thriving. It outlasted the Queen of England. It remains in the top 100 for tumblr, and Alexander Vlahos still posts the yearly ‘I killed Arthur and Merthur is canon’ thing.

Y’all are like roaches in a nuclear blast.

I’m just sitting here listless, pondering my life choices and why fanfiction is currently lackluster and disappointing, and it has occurred to me that it’s entirely because I wasn’t reading ✨merthur✨

I’ve always despised the idea that merlin moped for 1500 years after Arthur’s death and stayed at the lake all that time just waiting for Arthur to return, like no, he definitely had like a slutty slutty 1200 years of just having fun on adventures as like a French beaurocrat or a pirate or a war doctor or a professor! He lived and laughed and made friends and family and new lovers even after Arthur, his soulmate, his destiny died!!!! Sure he spent a few years in between the partying building property around the lake and a community for Arthur to come back to safely because Arthur will be the one he truly loves and no one else can match up but come on! He’s immortal he probably lived an interesting life full of adventure and not endless moping and obsession!!!
