So I think I’m gonna assign Amor a nationality (but then keep it kind of broad) so to me she’s English (cos I’m English) but she has quite a strong northern accent - it’s clear enough but it defo throws the Spanish girlies/non-English girlies when they first meet her

With that Amor obviously speaks English - it’s her main/native language and it’s what she’s most comfortable speaking in

She learned German at Wolfsburg - she found it hard to learn but she didn’t want to come across as the English speaker who assumed everyone else would speak English around her. She invested so much time and effort into studies. The club gave her 2 sessions a week to learn but she found another tutor and did 2 additional sessions outside of the club. She also made all the German girls speak to her in German so she could practice the listening side of things too

After she moved to Barça she put just as much energy into learning Spanish - she started with Spanish lessons 4 times a week and insisted she was held to a high level of expectations when it comes to speaking the language. She was definitely conversational by the end of her first (half) season at Barça and pretty much fluent by the end of the first year, but she still prefers to speak in English when she can but it’s perfectly happy to switch between the languages whenever is necessary

After she started dating Ale - Catalan has been slowly integrated into her Spanish lessons. Ale is obviously a very proud Catalan woman and she lives in Barcelona and she wants to learn Catalan as much as possible. She’s trying really hard and definitely keeps it a secret for a little bit until she just whips it out in front of Ale’s extended family and Ale is just stood there like wtf (she didn’t know if she wanted to cry, ask Amor to marry her then and there or whisk Amor off to their bedroom)

She’s made it a point to learn a few phrases in French and Italian too so that if she ever goes to play there with Barça (like in the champions league) she can talk to the mascots a little bit. It’s usually pretty basic phrases like “hi”, “how are you” “what’s your name” “are you nervous?” That sort of thing

She also forces every new player to teach her a few words/sentences in their native language - she’s forced Ingrid and Caro to teach her some Norwegian words (she mainly does greetings and I love you in Norwegian) and Frido has given her some Swedish lessons too

Whilst she was at Wolfsburg she made Pernille Harder teach her some Danish too and Ewa taught her some polish too. Her next task is aimed at Kika and is trying to persuade her to teach her some Portuguese

Despite how hard Amor found it to learn the languages, she remembers things really well so once she’s learned it, she’s good at the language and doesn’t forget much

ohhhhhh thank you!! that is SUCH impressive archiving, I'm always in awe of how much material you've amassed. and very based of them, big W for italian motorcycle racing. it's a great book!! I love that they've read it! there's a lot of sports autobiographies that take care never to stray from the generic when telling their stories... but this one has so much character that even knowing other professional athletes have read it makes me want to quiz them about what they thought

seeing as I've been given an opportunity to proselytise about this book, here is how it opens:

it's a book about having a deeply complicated relationship with the thing you've been forced to dedicate your whole life to, about being in constant pain and asking yourself if it's really worth it, about never having been given the time and space to develop properly into your own person... about hating tennis and never quite being able to walk away from it. the misery of winning and the refusal to countenance losing. the burden of having the whole world narrativise your career and your life, denying you the chance to do so for yourself, of being constantly judged and being constantly found inadequate. about rivalries!! having your whole career ending up being inadvertently defined by One Guy who you just don't really understand and who you can never escape

what agassi does is put words to a lot of the underlying narratives and themes of sports that other athletes also come into contact with in one way or another but are far less capable of articulating. you'll be hard-pressed to find another book that captures the humanity of sports so well, its twisted appeal and why it's so compelling

like,, idk there's so much going on in that book that when I find out another athlete has read it, I do want to basically go through it with them chapter by chapter (obviously I have a full set of notes and a highlighting system with one colour dedicated just to the sampras rivalry, so I'm well prepared for this task). it's cool that they've read it! good healthy interest in sports narrativisation on their part. in this post I brought up one of my favourite excerpts from the book when discussing the vale/casey rivalry -

- and idk, this kind of thing is just so fun and interesting you kinda want to go around and get everyone's thoughts on it. also obviously on a personal level,, enjoy the motogp guys, adore agassi and that whole era of tennis, so it's a fun crossover for me specifically. yay

btw, a new interview with agassi was published in the nyt a few days ago that I'd defo recommend to anyone with even just a passing interest in the sport (once you scroll past the bits about the worst event in tennis). starts with the line “as far apart as you are on a tennis court, you can actually feel the other one very intimately". even when he's delving more into the nuts and bolts of the sport, he just kinda gets how to explain it in a way that taps into the fundamental narrative appeal of what you're watching

Reid is deadass having so much fun, he loves halloween so much and he’s fascinated by the costumes. But definitely using his knowledge of the different monsters and such to cope with being a lil nervous. Doesn’t matter that the others are a bit preoccupied to really hear and listen.

Aaron and Rossi are tailing, Aaron secretly really loves halloween and spooky things so he’s enjoying himself a lot, even if it’s not scary. Rossi is definitely spooked by some things but he’s trying to play it off as best he can. But every time Aaron hears him curse in Italian under his breath he knows he’s gotten scared.

They definitely take a lot of pictures, some less flattering than others and when there’s photos taken by the event they buy a copy for one each. And you can bet they have the pictures on their desks either at home or in the office to look back on.

Both French, they moved to London when Sirius was 11 and Regulus was 10 so they could attend Hogwarts, and so their parents could see the rest of their family who had moved a couple years prior (the black family is french but they were British about a thousand years ago, and it is tradition for all the children of the family to attend Hogwarts and not Beauxbatons)

what is tarot? a crash course to the tarot deck.

hello, hello. i am gonna answer this one, manon, it will cover both questions.

it's all good that you don't know much about tarot. as i said in my about me post, i have been practicing tarot for nine years now! so it takes time to build up confidence and knowledge when it comes to reading! so a mini break down of tarot:

history: today's tarot appear most similarly to a 15th century italian game - it spread all over europe quite quickly. by the 18th century (shoutout to the enlightenment era for having nothing better to do than to make tools to help people better reflect on their life situation (yay printing press as well) AND boo to the puritans for demonizing the practice of any divination), french subcultures better developed meanings of the cards and began using it as a means of divination. this makes sense for european history because the great plague of 1738 occurred and people had already been turning to occultism for divination purposes (this is even remarked upon in journal of the plague year daniel defoe's book from 1722 regarding an outbreak in london 1665). while tarot is connected to / is credited to ancient egyptians, i ching, kabbalah, and many other older practices, the modern recognizable tarot deck originates in the 17th century.

so a tarot deck eventually came to contain 78 cards total. this deck can be split into the categories of major arcana (trionfi - triumphs or trump cards as they were known as in their early existence. arcanus - secret.) and the minor arcana.

major arcana (what is used in the matrix, or wyrd web as i have taken to calling it) are 22 cards. each card follows was was the typically hero's journey at the time (15th - 18th century hero's journey). the major arcana were meant to better form a storyline meaning to represent some higher power, a character, morals, and/or immoral feats. each card has a internal and external aspect as well as a individual and collective meaning.

while the minor arcana are a set of 56 cards that were originally your everyday pack of cards at the time. the minor arcana consisted then and now of four suits - fourteen cards each. four court cards per suit: king, queen (back then sometimes it was two kings as queens were often removed from "men's games"), knight, and page (at the time it was a jack). then cards ace to ten in each suit! like a modern deck of playing cards, the suits have four differing symbols - cups (hearts way back), wands (club or baton), pentacles (the diamond), and swords (the spade).

so now that that is cleared up - the rider waite smith version of the deck tends to be closest to original imagery, and is often a great starter deck as all the images, if looked at carefully, can provide insight to there meaning.

exhibit a.

the magician is the 1 (manon ;)) card of the major arcana. take a good look at this guy.

the magician stands before a table in which all four elemental suits (wand, cup, pentacle, and sword - likely the the objects from the fool's (22's) bundle) are present. flowers bloom abundantly before the table. an ouroboros (the snake that swallows it's tail) and a infinity floats over his head - he burns a candle at both ends towards the heavens and points to the earth showing his connection to both the physical (pointing down and ouroboros) and the spiritual (the candle towards the heavens and the infinity sign over his head). this symbolizes balance similar to how his outfit is both red (passion) and white (purity).

the magician essence of the card claims abundance and having everything one could possibly need. the magician can connect to both the spiritual and physical realm - this is a power card (all the elements are in front of him to do as he pleases in the image on the card). a magician can do what they want and create whatever they wish to. but the reverse of a magician shows the misuse of power (suddenly the magician is "unnatural"; he wills the objects to stay on the table). the reversed image of the magician is manipulating you into believing up is down and down is up. they also distractingly point to the bush of flowers and not the table. hence a reversed magician struggles to see their ability to create - they block themselves from identifying who they are and what they want.

most every tarot reader will agree to individual card meanings, but a spread is often up for debate as multiple cards often interact with each other differently (that's an opinion of mine). the question(s) asked to a deck often hold some sway to card meaning as well - they often carry a different message based on the question.

the magician when asking about romance can indicate rekindling or entering a relationship. it may ask that you mind your emotions (cup on table) and thoughts (sword) while being grounded (pointing to earth) and passionate (red cloak and candle in the sky). meanwhile in a career or money reading, the magician indicates new opportunities that will lead to abundance. it could mean starting your own business or negotiating a raise. meanwhile in a relationship spread when i see the 3 of cups and the magician reversed (i denote that as rx), i know that one person is up to no good and is likely gaslighting / using the other person.

i promise that all/every major arcana will eventually be discussed as we continue down the road to discovering more about the wyrd web! every minor arcana is definitely up for grabs though as they will not be touched upon when examining the web.

I really wanna write some more fanfiction but I’m currently in the process of transitioning between obsessions but it currently seems like I'm stuck between the two of them? And the problem is I don't have the motivation to write for the first one but don't know enough yet to write for the second one. It's so frustrating. So I mean I'll force myself to write for the first one but only if people request. (Maneskin btw please request)

What I might do is write some short ones or some preferences and post those to get more people to request. Honestly though, it's so hot right now (32-34 degrees celsius) and my brain is mushed because I'm not accustomed to this heat. I’m going home in four days though but unfortunately I won’t have time to write because I’m going out with friends and also I’m gonna be studying (for exams) because I currently have three Es (i think it’s that) and really want to actually go to college.

As well as the fact that I managed to go this whole time just tanning and then somehow sunburnt so goddamn bad I look like a tomato. I’m going to try and write through the year but my entire schedule is prolly gonna be school —> home —> studying then on weekends a mix between studying and going out and to gigs and stuff.

Anyways i've been working on my italian (yes ik i should already be able to speak it but my nonni gave up ok) and I can still barely speak it. My comprehension is defo better though.

For me recently I’ve been eating up all the rivusa crumbs in the movies ESP magical adventure but since I have no irl outlet I’m just gonna say here that in secret of the lost kingdom the freaking cut scene from the Italian where the old white man tells riven that he needs to figure out whats his reason fighting and Musa just comes and links arms with him owns my heart AND THEN it links back to when they have their moment towards the end where he tells her she is what he’s fighting for😭😭 dude that kiss is engraved in my head for absolutely no reason I love it so much the animation was giving all it could have been giving at that moment😭😭 and also when Musa was giggling while riven was doing extra stuff with his hover bike just makes me so happy🥲

But then magical adventure ironically outsells the sotlk rivusa moments Bcs let me say when they meet in eraklyon and she runs and pushes up on his shoulders to kiss the side of his forehead😭😭 and his hand placement just gives me life and when they kiss (with so much tenderness that my heart is exploding) his hands deadass brushes over her ass😀😀😀 (the fact that the animators made an ACTIVE DECISION TO ANIMATE THAT TOO) it just helps with my hc that musas favourite place to hold riven is around his neck and his is around her waist (and lower ig🤷‍♀️ ) and they’re holding hands to wan to the ship too🥲🥲🥲 ALSO when riven ran up to musa on the ship to tell her “I always loved playing pirates” I MEAN COME ON THEY ARE SO CUTE and when they’re all kinda mourning over sky’s dad riven just puts his hands on her shoulders to comfort her and she later just reaches back to place her palm over his hand on her shoulder😭😭😭 URGH my heart can’t handle all these moments and then when the winx get back their powers she tackles him from the back and wraps her arms around his neck while she’s flying😭 and they just stay that way and look at each other when bloom and sky kiss lol🤪 and then when they need to fly back to the ship THEYRE THE LAST COUPLE TO SEPARATE AND HE JUST HOLDS HER HAND FOR AS MUCH AS HE CAN BEFORE SHE FLIES OFF😭😭😭 ok I think I’m done with my rivusa verbal diarrhoea I spent a whole 3 hours watching magical kingdom because I kept going back and slowing down the cute rivusa crumbs and analysing everything🤪 thank you for coming to my Ted talk about why rivusa have always been and will be the best

I love all the Rivusa kisses from the first kingdom, but the one where she was surprising him was so cute. Riven defo stuggles with being openly affectionate even tho he really really wants to be and Musa knows this show she's being affectionate enough for the both of them I love them so much sobbing

Their so soft but I can't believe you needed the movie to tell u that Riven is handsy with his s/o /j like it was so obvious. I couldn't tell you who is worse between them tbh. Musa, as seen by her s1 outfit, is more attention getting, Riven is only subtle when you compare him to her. Musa is going to kill Riven with her outfits one day, and she's not gonna even be a little sorry because it was completely intentional

And now I love Spain, and as someone who's live in England for the past 6 years of my life I have come to like the lionesses and I usually want Spain to do well in tournaments but that's never gonna compare to watching Italy play and watching them score and shooting at the TV and pacing around my room with the anxiety of the game, watching Spain and England score and win is one thing but watching Italy score or win when they do is something completely different and it fills me with joy

On this day, one year ago...

Today I started off heading to the Stardom popup shop. I'd changed so many of my travel plans just to have a chance to visit this store, because it was a Stardom store. However, it was a mistake 😂 All the merch was just as shit as the last time they did a Tower Records popup store 😭 I had an inkling it would be going in, but I went for it anyway. I'd committed. The Gee Store was way better in comparison 😂

Anywhos! After that it was the start of my tour of Japan as a Stardom groupie 😂 The first show I was following them to was in Nagoya. I hopped on the Shinkansen and made my way there!

First off I hilariously went to the wrong hotel - the one next door to the one I'd booked, cos obviously I'd left my brain cells back on the train.

I honestly wasn't too enamoured with Nagoya when I was there. Perhaps I was in not the best district, or I was just tired and it was clouding my judgement, but it had a much seedier vibe than anywhere else I'd been. Not as clean too. Now, we're talking seedy and unclean by Japan standards - it was still far nicer to be in than most places in London 😂 But some of the establishments, especially walking around at night, yeah it defo didn't have the same vibe. But it was still good to see other cities in Japan outside of the tourist loop.

Wanting to see the sites, I first travelled to Osu Kannon, a Buddhist temple. It was a really nice place.

However, these two drunk foreigners snuck up on me and grabbed me by the back of the neck... like, what the fuck? This was in the afternoon, on temple grounds... have some respect. Not to mention, naturally I was kinda freaked out. They tried to talk to me, but I was civil and made my excuses as soon as I could. Kinda shook me up. :/

I went to Osu Shopping Street afterwards, and dag nammit if that place didn't have my EXACT fashion sense for sale, but my suitcase was too full for me to buy any of it 😭

Since I was so disappointed by the Stardom store in Tokyo that morning, I walked up to the Nagoya branch of Gee Store. Again, they had so much. Steins Gate, Black Lagoon... even this niche lil anime my friend was obsessed with at the time. And of course, Stardom merch. They didn't have what I wanted in my size, unfortunately, but at least I got to have a peruse :)

I tried to get to Nagoya Castle, see if there was a way to get some photos without visiting the castle grounds as I know it'd be tight time-wise the next day to visit before the Stardom show. Unfortunately I couldn't see it well, but I did see a guy feeding some cute stray cats :)

I struggled to find places to eat at night. From memory, there was an Italian place I tried that was too full, then a yakiniku place which was literally empty at peak times (which is kinda concerning). Eventually I found this little french place. I had this thinly sliced cold salmon. I thought it was cooked and cold, but turns out it was raw... I was trying to avoid eating raw fish, cos I heard it can upset your stomach if you're not used to it, and Sod's Law I was worried I'd end up feeling unwell again, like I did at the start of the holiday. Thankfully, I was fine, and it was actually really tasty.

A quote I can think of rn Is from an italian series that's titled "Strappare lungo i bordi" that goes;

Let's just say,,,, that u never can get nough of monsterfuckering ykyk (doesn't help that eve n qiran r related 😭demon and spiritfuckers alike).

Speaking of that matter MAYBE I'll do a post on spirits n demons, maybe bc I just remembered I didn't write anything down yet and at this point I might as well.
