I’m bored, have some absolutely deranged LOTR related facts: (Google this stuff if you don’t believe me. It’s all true.)
The Led-Zeppelin song „Ramble On“ is about the beautiful Mordor. Gollum and Sauron also argue about a girl. Listen to it. It’s true.
The book could have been called The magic ring. I don’t like it.
In a hobbit movie from 1967 Bilbo married a princess.
In the first draft, Strider was a hobbit.
In Helm’s deep, Gimli talks about the fact that he hasn’t killed orcs since Moria and totally forgets about Amon Hen. You killed a whole bunch of orcs there, dude.
Speaking about Moria, in the Silmarillion, Tolkien tells us that Khazad-dûm became Moria AFTER the Balrog got there. Celebrimbor can apparently see the future, because he writes about Moria on the damn door.
Arwen died when she was 2901, which means that the 122 years she was married to Aragorn were 4 percent of her life. Damn.
The edoras set was located at a place called erewhon. If you reverse that, it’s almost nowhere. Great name.

Tumblr media
Their favourite movie…
includes: Michael Myers, Pinhead, Brahms Heelshire, Art the Clown, Sun and Moon (fnaf), Marta (Outlast 2)
spoilers: mentions of Saw and LOTR endings but tried to keep it vague just in case
Tumblr media
Michael
I wouldn’t say he’s “happy” to watch anything, because Michael doesn’t really express “happiness” in any context, but he is content to sit completely still for hours on end, watching whatever you choose. He doesn’t form opinions on films so doesn’t have a favourite, but when you watch a gory horror film together, the SECOND the end credits are rolling he is up and grabbing his knife, heading for the door; Mike loves some inspo x
Tumblr media
Pinhead
Fascinated by human media, having long forgotten that aspect of humanity. Pinhead enjoys films that he finds mentally stimulating, thrillers and mysteries mostly (gory films have him scoffing because he could easily make a far more gory scene in the blink of an eye). That said, Pinhead doesn’t like rewatching films because if they have a mystery and he’s solved it, he has no interest in seeing it again because “It is done; an experience that cannot be repeated”. His favourite film is Saw because he was completely blindsided by the plot twist at the end - obviously, a body on the floor of the entire film is nothing more than furniture to Pinhead, so when bro GOT UP?? Pinhead was losing it. Had to pause the film to pace for a few minutes. Couldn’t comprehend how he didn’t see it coming.
Tumblr media
Brahms
Every Barbie movie from the early 2000’s, classic animated Disney princess films, and Peter Pan; Brahms thinks the princesses are very pretty (often comparing them to you regardless of your gender because he romanticises every fibre of your being) and believes himself to be the boy who never quite grew up, ironically. Doesn’t mind gory films, but doesn’t like complicated ones because he gets very frustrated; prefers to cuddle up with you and watch something wholesome. Will get pouty and is not above begging to start a movie over the second it’s finished.
Tumblr media
Art
He’s pretty casual about the films he likes, he prefers classics that have decent remakes and his favourite is Carrie - a revenge plot with magical powers that cause a gory rampage? Count Art in. What he is passionate about, though, is the film he hates more than any other that fits the same criteria of a classic with a decent remake: It. And it’s literally because Art thinks he himself is the best scary clown. Sometimes you put it on (either the classic or new, the reaction is the same) just to piss him off and Art will come storming in, signing angry gibberish with flailing hands until he’s sulking on the couch beside you because he will insist on watching the entire thing again so that he can complain throughout.
Tumblr media
Sun and Moon
Sun likes exciting films with happy endings, a very big fan of action movies. Contrary to this, his favourite movie isn’t just one, but the full Lord Of The Rings trilogy - Sun loved reading the books in between watching the films to digest every scrap of lore, but after watching the end of Return Of The King? Couldn’t bring himself to read the last book, because it was too sad. Sun is adamant he will never rewatch the trilogy because it upset him but objectively, that’s his favourite. He’s overjoyed to watch anything with you, because he loves spending time with you, but you have to tell him in advance it has a happy ending or he wont watch it, and if you lie? Moon pending.
Moon prefers quieter, calmer and darker films, with a particular love for gothic horrors based on the supernatural rather than slashers/gorefests. His favourite is An American Werewolf In London, the negative aspects of the transformation being very relatable to Moon.
Tumblr media
Marta
Say hello to the biggest film critic of all time. Marta will insist that watching movies is a waste of good time that could be spent praising God or eradicating heretics, so will turn her nose up at almost every suggestion you make, but when you show her John Wick? Oh, Marta’s sense of justice is PREENING. She’s all about that. By the end, her internal monologue is begging God not to let her joy show on her face. As long as you tell her a film is like John Wick, she’ll give it a chance, but John Wick remains her favourite.

Lord Of The Rings Preferences: How They Kiss You
(A/N: wahey my LOTR rewatch is finished so here comes the content :P if there's a specific scenario you want or another character you'd like me to add, send it to my ask box and I'll see what I can do!
!!edited to add characters!!)
(Includes Sam, Pippin, Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir and Faramir x Gender neutral reader)
Tumblr media
Sam:
Oh Sam is shyyyyyyy when it comes to kissing you. He's always so nervous about doing something wrong in the early stages of your relationship, so his kisses are sweet but cautious - you might have to take the lead until he gets more comfortable. Bonus: if you run your fingers through his hair while you kiss him his brain completely shuts out.
Tumblr media
Pippin:
Pippin has absolutely no experience with this sort of thing but more than makes up for it with sheer enthusiasm. One of his favourite ways to tease you is to dot kisses all over your face whenever he gets chance (but if you do the same thing to him he will go bright red). If you even hint at the idea of making out with him he's thrilled but doesn't know what to do with himself, and probably runs to Merry in a panic to ask about it.
Tumblr media
Aragorn:
As can be expected, Aragorn is deeply passionate with his affection for you. While not one to initiate it, he isn't opposed to PDA, but he vastly prefers finding a secluded area for just the two of you where he can take his time appreciating you. He tends to get a little more rough or possessive when kissing you after you've been in a dangerous situation or recently reunited (wrists pinned over your head against a tree kind of rough), and this is met with a lot of teasing from the Fellowship if they walk in on it.
Tumblr media
Legolas:
Legolas has less experience than you might think, however he's a very quick learner and quickly eases into the familiarity of your affection. His kisses are slow and soft, and more frequent than you expect - once he's with you he realises how touch starved he is. He's most likely taller than you, and he absolutely loves if you tug him down by his shirt to kiss him. (Pull his hair as well, he will MELT.)
Tumblr media
Boromir:
Boromir is incredibly open about expressing his affection towards you and is absolutely one for grand displays of romance. He's the type to pick you up and spin you before planting a long, sweet kiss on your lips, mostly because he loves how flustered it makes you when he catches you off guard, but also because he loves to show you off as his. He also hugs you from behind a lot and will litter your neck with kisses whenever he gets chance.
Tumblr media
Faramir:
did somebody say HOPELESS ROMANTIC? All of Faramir's actions serve to prove how hopelessly in love with you he is, and kissing you is no different. He gets lost in the feeling of you every single time and treats you so gently, as if you might fade away in front of him. He'll usually cup your cheek as he kisses you, fingertips tracing your jawline, or he'll tuck your hair behind your ear and softly tilt your chin up to look at him before he leans in. This man is basically just the epitome of a romance novel.

Breaking up my lotr reread with a couple of vampire short stories, and more holiday stuff.
26|08|2024
I have been feeling weird lately, I normally don't procrastinate a lot, but I have been having an hard time actually doing things. The problem is my brain can't deal with procrastination, if I know I have to do something I need to do it right away, or else I'll just build up anxiety over doing that. I need to find a way to get out of this stupid loop. I also feel it might be that weird limbo of summer break being closer to an end and finding a hard time convincing myself to slowly get back in routines. I don't know overall it's a weird and annoying feeling. I did talk a bit about it in therapy this morning so that helped. On more fun updates I finished reading The Fellowship Of The Ring, and tho this morning I started The Two Towers, I decided I also need to very my reading switching between things. I therefore decided to start reading this tiny book with a couple of vampire stories by Frederick Ignatus Cowles. I am also finally done with my homemade translation of the epic musical. The last fun thing is that I decided to start rewatching gravity falls, and I am having such a great time with it!

I don’t know if it’s just me but one of the LOTR moments that I love the most and that makes me cry all the time is the battle of Weathertop. I remember rewatching it after having finished the trilogy and crying because of it. I mean, knowing how Frodo will have to leave Sam at the end also because of his wound and the fact that he will never heal from it makes me physically and psychologically sick. Moreover in the films, as soon as Frodo is stabbed Sam runs to him and Frodo says “oh Sam” with that super sweet and grateful tone and Sam just smiles to him. And in the meanwhile Aragorn that fight all the Nazgûl’s alone and risks his life for his little hobbits. God all of this makes me sob.

The King and The Hobbit
I've ventured into a new fandom with a short piece that imagined Thorin survived The Battle of the Five Armies.
The King and the Hobbit (3928 words) by downstar Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Hobbit (Jackson Movies) Rating: Mature Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield Characters: Thorin Oakenshield, Bilbo Baggins Additional Tags: Fix-It, Post-Canon Fix-It, Post-Canon, Thorin Oakenshield Lives, First Time, POV Bilbo Baggins, Dwarves in the Shire, The Shire (Tolkien), Bag End (Tolkien), Love Confessions, Declarations Of Love, Friends to Lovers, Post-Hobbit, Dwarf/Hobbit Relationship(s), Non-Graphic Smut, Bottom Bilbo Baggins, Top Thorin Oakenshield, My First Work in This Fandom, bagginshield Summary: Several months after The Battle of the Five Armies, the dwarves travel to the Shire to celebrate Bilbo's birthday. One dwarf in particular arrives ahead of his company to reconnect with Bilbo. --- I recently did a marathon rewatch of LoTR and The Hobbit movies. I hadn't realized on first viewing how close to being canonical Thorin and Bilbo's love came. Thought I'd try my hand at this fandom and do a little Thorin lives piece. It was great fun to try out a new world and new voices. With apologies if I made any canon errors! I am a pretty casual Tolkien fan.
EXCERPT:
It was two days before the 53rd birthday of Bilbo Baggins, and the dwarves of Erebor were on their way.
As much as the Hobbits of the Shire did not approve of Bilbo’s wandering ways, his contributions during The Battle of the Five Armies and the retaking of Erebor from the dragon Smaug were already passing into the realm of legend. So, plans had been underway for weeks to celebrate his birthday with a lavish party.
Reservations about his improper adventuring aside, what hobbit doesn’t love an excuse to throw a feast?
Bilbo accepted the honour reluctantly, and only on the condition that the dwarves with whom he’d shared the quest would be invited. That nearly derailed the whole thing then and there, but after a bit of squabbling and peacemaking, the council agreed to the conditions.
Bilbo had spent the last week bustling around Bag End, preparing for his visitors whose presence he felt was far more significant than his own turning of the year. It was no trivial matter to travel from Erebor to the Shire, even though the journey could be made in relative peace and safety - unlike their original quest. So he was aware of what a great honour it was for his friends to make the journey.
At the best of times, Bilbo could be full of nervous energy. It had been hard enough to keep up his facade as an ordinary, respectable Hobbit when he hadn’t gone off on an adventure. But now that the residents of the Shire knew that his respectability had been a facade, they looked at him even more askance. That, in turn, had made him even more self-aware, especially as it felt like the entire Shire was attending his birthday party. There was admiration and awe in the way the Shirefolk looked at him, as well. Just because a Hobbit didn’t want to go off fighting dragons themselves didn’t mean they didn’t admire his courage.
Admiration felt almost more awkward than disapproval to Bilbo. But he’d slowly been learning to lean into the attention. Still, he felt very relieved and excited that his dwarven friends would be attending as well. And one friend in particular.
Bilbo was just finishing stowing away the most valuable pieces of silver and sentimental knickknacks when there was a knock on his door.
As Hobbits tended to be very well-mannered about not dropping by unannounced so late, Bilbo convinced himself he’d imagined the knock and went right back to his tidying up.
The knock came again, this time harder and unmistakable.
Bilbo crept cautiously from the kitchen toward the entryway, peering around the corner and doing a little halt-step. The movement of a shadow outside the window convinced him there was indeed someone out there. He twitched his nose, flickered his fingers, then cautiously stepped forward to pull open the door.
The figure was broad-shouldered and heavily cloaked, and no hobbit.
A moment of fear spiked down Bilbo’s spine. His adventure had shown him the wide word, but it had also made him much more aware of the mortal danger that most hobbits had the good fortune to never see. He started to reach for Sting, which hung just behind an old coat he kept by the door.
“You look upon me as an enemy, Bilbo Baggins. Surely these few months haven’t changed things between us so much.”
Bilbo immediately stopped reaching for his sword. The spike of fear turned to joy. “Thorin?!”
The bulky figure passed into the light of Bilbo’s entryway, revealing the most welcome face of the King Under the Mountain. Thorin smiled, the corners of his eyes wrinkling. “You sound surprised. Did you not invite us? Shall I go?” He motioned behind him.
Bilbo stood there staring at Thorin. They hadn’t seen each other in many, many months. When he’d left Erebor, Thorin was still under the care of Tauriel, whose Elven healing had saved him a mere breath from death’s door. Even then, his recovery had been long and slow, and Bilbo wasn’t certain that the King of Erebor would have the strength to make the journey to the Shire.
But now, here he was, standing right in front of him. Bilbo stared at him, and as he did, familiar, confusing feelings bubbled to the surface. He was somehow more handsome and noble than even his memory. He looked hale and healthy, though one hand held a silver-topped cane.
“Well?” asked Thorin with a roll of amused thunder in his tone. “Can I come in? I won’t do you the dishonour of pushing my way in uninvited as my kin and I once did.”
“Oh yes! Yes of course. You are most welcome. Most welcome, indeed. Come, come,” Bilbo reached out to catch Thorin’s arm and pull him inside. He looked past him and stepped out onto the porch. He’d expected a gaggle of dwarves to be in Thorin’s company, but the lane was quiet save for the singing of cicadas.  “You’re alone?”
“I left my company behind in Bree, where they will stay for the night. They will make their way here tomorrow. But I wanted to come ahead, to see you before the madness of the celebration to come.”
Bilbo closed the rounded door and found himself staring at Thorin again. He wore a travelling cloak, but as the weather was still mild, it was not rimmed in fur. Even without that added bulk, the broad set of his shoulders was apparent.
Bilbo reached for the cloak, and Thorin shrugged it off into his hands. He staggered under the weight of it. “Please, come in. Have a seat. I’ll make us some tea. Are you hungry?” He bustled off and gently set the heavy cloak on an armchair, then made his way back to the kitchen. He rocked on his feet, his whole body humming with unexpected excitement and a touch of nerves.
Thorin rested his cane against the wall. He stood a bit askance and it was clear he was favouring the side where the orc blade had cut him clean through and nearly taken his life. “I wish nothing of you but your company, Bilbo. But…” he grinned softly, “...a cup of tea would not go amiss.”
“Right! I’ll get right on that. I’ve got some lovely cakes as well. The food is quite horrible in Bree. You’re probably dying for a bit of proper food after so long on the road. I’ll…”
Bilbo’s bustling was stopped in its tracks when Thorin caught his arm.

Fragrance's year in review
Since I just finished my last workday of the year, even though it's not yet Christmas or New Year, I feel like there's a certain finality to today, more so than there might be on either one of those holidays.
And let me tell you, it's been a year, but I can honestly say that today I feel a great deal better, and like a very different person, than I did a year ago.
It was about a year ago, in early January, that shit hit the fan with my health.
But before that, if we rewind back to last December, I was absolutely miserable in my job, and in my life. I felt helpless to help anyone. I had some serious ethical qualms about the field I am in. Every day, going into work felt like a death march. I had little to look forward to besides the next thing the Netflix algorithm was going to show me. I was rewatching the Harry Potter series, which I had never particularly liked, but it was an escape.
Then, in January I took a medication that I had a bad reaction to, but getting off of it, I started to feel really bad in a different way. January through March were, bar none, the worst time in my life, and that's saying a lot. I am still trying to get off the darn thing, one literal drop at a time, and while I still have some bad days on the whole I am a great deal closer to my "normal" self than I had been in months.
And as a result of the above experiences, a number of things changed, and for the better.
I got back into Lord of the Rings, and the parallels to Frodo and the other characters' struggles have given me validation and meaning. I connected with the books and the movies in a way I had never done before.
I joined the tumblr LOTR community and met some wonderful people.
I started writing again, and my efforts to rewrite Frodo's story have paralleled my own attempts at healing.
I now have something I legitimately look forward to every day, and it feels invigorating to be a creator as well as an appreciator of other people's work.
I became better at dealing with the everyday. I've realized that many ordinary things, things that I already do, can be incredibly healing if they are done with intention. When I feel bad, I now look forward to getting better, because I know this too shall pass. If I feel good, I savor it and remain grateful. I have never before been good at being grateful, and I am still learning.
And at my job, while it's still heavy at times, I try to look at things more simply now. It may not be a perfect system, and the tools I have may be flawed, but at least I have a skillset and G-d willing, I may be able to help somebody, somewhere now and then.
