STARRY EYES (2014) REWATCH

💁‍♀️Strong Female Lead

A pretty basic horror flick with a fair amount of gore. Reminds me of Contracted mostly in the way that it is about a brown haired girl getting sick and it is mostly forgettable.

Trigger Warning Hair Pulling/Tearing, Seizure (?), Strobing Lights, Sexual Assault, Feminine Bleeding, Bugs 

We start out by watching a girl looking at herself in the mirror, clearly unhappy with what she sees. Her name is Sarah and she is an aspiring actress like most of her friends, if you can call them friends. One of the girls at the party stole a role that Sarah was hoping to get and you can tell there is going to be tension between the two of them. Either way, Sarah gets an audition for a new movie coming up but has a terrible nightmare about messing up the audition. During the actual audition she does okay but the folks hosting the thing seem unimpressed so she has a fit in the bathroom and one of the judges (or whatever you call them) decides suddenly she might be a great actor after all. I hate that trope, I think it is silly. They would just get an actress who can act the part, not one who needs to have a meltdown to do it, but I digress. Sarah gets the callback!

The callback is creepy though and they make her strip but by the end she is feeling herself so I guess it is okay? It is a weird grey area, folks, but mostly it feels gross. Sarah is really happy afterwards and goes to tell her friends. All are happy but the one girl who is very jealous (which is very obvious but no one notices). There is an accident at the pool and Sarah only laughs which was weird and kind of evil of her. Another callback comes her way and Sarah goes to meet the producer but oh, no! He is a creep and tries to touch her inappropriately. She goes home and cries, tells her friends, gets her job back, and is a sad girl for a bit. But then the gang has a party and she is given drugs and Sarah realizes that she needs to do whatever it takes to be in that movie so she goes and sucks the producers dick while satanic stuff happens around her. It was pretty wack.

She wakes up in her own bed, sore and looking like crap. She calls the studio to ask what is going on but no one answers. Sarah is beginning to freak out on her friends and roommate and it is not very cool of her. Also Sarah is showing some major damage and it is super gross, around this time she pukes up a bunch of maggots which is special and disgusting. She is changing, being reborn. She goes over to her “friends” house and starts to kill them all systematically. This leads her to be able to go to her transformation ceremony where later she digs herself out of the ground and is a shiny new her (bald as a baby). There is only one more person from her old life and that is her roommate who she needs to kill so she does and then she is able to move on with her perfect new life. The last scene is her getting dressed in a beautiful new outfit from the folks at the studio and she is admiring her new satanic necklace. She is really one of them now.

Trama
