What a cute prompt!!! I loved writing it!! Enjoyed a lot writing ever single word!!

I grew curious and ask my mother how she deal with this and even when my sister and I are so diferent the experience wasn't that diferent! Honestly was so interesting to heard her opinion!

Reaper & Aguri

Reaper and Aguri are really loving parents, both of them want to show all their love and support and actually are a really close family, they balance each other, while Agury want to be clingy and totally affectionate, even babying you a little, Reaper takes a role to be a little stric and a good mentor in life

Both want to share a lot of moments, and, as much as they want to keep you as their baby both are well aware that you have to grow and do your own life, and even when they are looking forward to see you grow, you experiencing your first love will definetly hit them hard

Both are really smart, while Aguri may notice the hints because she is a teacher and has a little sister, Reaper is extremely observant and knows a lot about human behavior, but both will have really diferent reactions, while Aguri is incredibly happy and excited, wanting to show you all her support and want to know all the details, Reaper isn't happy at all! Not that he is mad at you, of course, is something completely normal and he had tell himself that he would happy when you find someone to love (just as he had done with Aguri), but the truth is that the moment he notices it all his maturity and role as a good father is throw away from the window, he only wants his little baby back

Reaper will be the kind of father that feels like your lover is trying to steal you away form him but at the same time he feels incredibly happy for seeing you so happy, is so contradictory that is giving him headache. However, he is smart enough to know that it isn't right for him to act from those feelings, he just puts a smile and acts as if it doesn't bother him all while Aguri is asking you for all the details

Even if you prefer to don't say anything about it there is no way to hide it because both will find out and both want to know about your crush! And at some point Kaede will get to know too and she will be the one to came and give you some peace, stoping Aguri and Reaper from asking (if they were being pushy, but if you were willing to share the information she will be there to heard you too)

All of them will make a big deal out of it, Aguri is incredibly happy for her baby and is wishing you the best (while giving you some weird advices about romance), Reaper says that is alright but deep down he is trying to judge the person you like to see if they are worthy of being your partner (don't be surprised if he comes to pick you up from school more often), Kaede acts as if this is one of the greatest events, as determinated as her more important works, and be the one who gave you an actual useful advice

It could be embarrasing and a complete mess, specially because is the first time you develop a crush in someone, but at the end they only want the best for you

Umi & Kousuke

Umi and Kousuke Mamizuka are really loving and supporting parents, they may be busy most of the time but they always try to be there for you (specially in hard times, they are always there), the Mamizuka family is really close and loving

Umi is a teacher, she knows to identify when you need her and when you need time for yourself, so is more than obvious that she'll know when her precious child develop a crush for someone for the first time, she sees it all the time on school, and she couldn't be happier to see her baby grow up!

Choosing to tell them or not is up to you, but Umi soon or later will start to ask you about it, even if you decide to don't say anything she will start to ask indirectly, a little teasing honestly. Changes of your behavior like being more distracted or noticibly more happy or even blushy by school will be noticed by Takuma and Kazuma (they are rather clingy and affectionate with you, so if they will notice even if they don't understand it) and they will also start pointing it out and asking you with their innocent but cheerful expressions (Umi will just laugh at it, specially if you try to come up with a excuse)

Kousuke will be the last one to know because he is always busy, and is more likely that he will know by the others, even if you wanted to tell him is more likely that Umi will tell him that their precious child is in love once she is sure about it, and Kousuke will make a really big deal out of it! It isn't that he is overprotective, but he will be in tears while talking about how his precious little baby is growing so fast and soon you'll probably just go away and make your life (even if that is far from happening yet), honestly he is being a little over dramatic, acting as if you were about to get married soon

It could be embarrasing his behavior because even if you talk about it directly he may or may not try to sneak to see who is the one trying to steal his baby, and will end up envolving Takuma and Kazuma too because he wasn't able to shut up and end up telling them that you love someone, he end up explaining as if you were already in a relationship with that person, what will lead the twins to ask you if you are really in love, and if you go to the same school (that is probably, since Umi works there) they will sneak out of the nursery if they have the opportunity (or just see you around) and start asking you about your lover, what will lead the other kids to ask too (and Usaida will be teasing you, not even try to save you from the embarrasment)

If they actually make you pass an embarrassing moment or just upsed you they will deeply apologize (Kousuke wil be dramatic as always), at the end is Umi who will make everyone calm down and just wish you luck with your first love, willing to give you advice but telling you that you shouldn't feel frustrated if things doesn't work, just enjoy it! (and at the end, Kousuke, Takuma and Kazuma will show their support too, but they won't be as calm as Umi)

Adam & Eve

Adam and Even loves their family dearly, they want to protect their kids but loves them in their freedom, both want for their precious childs to discover the world from themselfs but are always close to whenever they need them, honestly the entire family develop a really wholesome enviroment, united but still free

Honestly, the fact that you are experiencing your first love can easily go unnoticed for a while if you don't say anything, Adam and Even will notice the little changes on your behavior (like being flustered, more shy or even excited to be somewhere) but won't say anything, or at least not to you, they will talk about it and will be Adam who suggest to let you be for now and wait until you feel ready to talk about it, in the mean time they will just keep an eye on you in case is something bad

Soon or later Cain and Abel will notice the little changes too, but they won't be as discreet as their parents, asking you right away about it or probably at your parents, at first they will try to push you to talk about it in a joking manner, and maybe even teasing you about you probably having a crush on someone, it would depend on your reactions, but at the end they will get the answer they wanted and they won't be too happy about it

Is a big contrast because while Adam and Even are taking the news more calmly and just trying to calm your brothers, is Cain and Abel who are taking the news more dramatically, no matter if you are older or younger than them, even if you were the middle child they had grew quite atached at you, they consider you not only as a sibling but also as a best friend, it always had been only the three of you against the world and suddenly some stranger wants to take you away from them! (thats actually not true, is just them being overdramatic)

Adam and Eve will try to calm them down and stop them from making a scene by assuring them that all of you will always be a family no matter what happen, but what Cain and Abel said will end up bugging Eve a little, later she will try to talk about it with Adam, what if that person really tries to take you away form all of you

At the end Adam and Even will want to talk to you about it, wanting to know how the person you like is (and who is, if you are willing to tell them), they want to respect your privacy but they are also eager to know (you still are their baby after all), and even if they don't say it both want to make sure the person you like is someone good for you

Eve and Adam will try to give you advices about love and relasionships, about how it has to be give and recive equally, their advices are actually really good, Cain and Abel will promise to be some kind of bodyguards, promising to don't let that stranger breakeyou precious heart

Loid & Yor

Even when the Forget seem like the perfect family is because Loid and Yor always tries their best to play as a family, and Anya helps a lot too to keep the family enviroment!

Even when both are always looking after the family is Loid the more self-aware of everything that happens with his family (or at least tries to, he just want to ensure the peace for all of you), so it won't take him much time to notice the little hints on your behavior that you had just developed a crush on someone, he may don't want to asume it is a crush right away because he is pretty much cluesest when it comes to it (or at least with more real and deep relasionships) or even nervously in denial, but as time pass the more obvious it becomes for him and he almost panics

As much as Loid wants to repeat himself that all of this is just for his mision is undeniable how much he cares for his family, he wants to ensure your peace and happiness and you having a crush in someone is something he can't control and that makes him nervous! It triggers a little bit his protective side

There is no way Anya will not know, it would be a little confusing for her since now your mind is plagged with thoughts of someone and nervousness, still it doesn't take her much time to undestand it and, honestly, she'll find this funny only because of the reaction of your parents, she isn't interested on any kind of romance right now but she cares for you and wants to support you (even when she doesn't know how to do it or how important this may be to you)

If you don't say anything it would take Yor a long time to realice it, and she is so naive at times that she may just asume that you are being bullied at school, what lead her to be worry about you, leaving her to choose between ask you right away or try to find out who is bothering you

At some point Yor will also tell Loid that you are being bullied, what will lead him to explain that you just have your first crush (a little awkward since he isn't used to things feel so personal), both will be awkward and nervous about it the whole thing, wanting to protect you and support you but not knowing how to do it, and if you decide to don't say anything about it it would make things even more difficult to them, leading them to try to make weird plans to get information about who is your crush and to see if is someone worthy. In the other hand, if you do say them they'll try to show your support and give some advices, Loid's advaces are the most useful only because he know all of that for his job, but deep down he is being extremely careful with what he says, wanting nothing but to ensure your safety

Honestly, Anya could be of a lot of help here, innocently trying to bring the topic somehow if you or your parents decide to don't say anything (because is had started to stress her a little)

Usagi & Mamoru

Usagi and Mamoru tried to be good parents and be always there for you, but if they already lead Crystal Tokyo it would be a little more difficult for them to be always there, however they always tries their hardest to at least let you know they are there for you, as well the Sailor Scouts are always there for you and treat you as family

All of them are really caring and try to look after you and Chibi Usagi, so there are high chances that when you develop a crush for the first time you went to at least one of them for advice, or even for help to try to undestand your feelings, and even if you decide to don't to tell them anything at some point at least one of them will notice your strange behavior (probably Minako, Makoto or even Usagi)

It isn't that they want to embarrased you or anything but once one of them get to know then you having your first crush it quickly become the biggest ghossip among the sailor scouts, if one of the sailor scouts know first they will talk about it a lot before even telling Usagi, but if is Usagi or Mamoru who get to know first then Usagi will be ranting about it, between wanting to tease you and ask you all the details and crying because her little baby had grow so fast! In the mean time Mamoru is trying to calm her down, but he also think that it would be good to talk about it with you

All of the sailor scouts are debating about it, trying to come up with a plan with how to help you, well, half of them don't think is the best idea to intervene if you haven't asked for help

Soon or later Usagi, Makoto and Minako start trying to ask you about it with little discretion, they are usually protective and watch over you but now they are a little more clingly just in hopes to see who your crush is (and try to get a glance of how you act with them), at the end is Mamoru and the other senshi who are more respectful and does support you and give you advice in a more mature way, wishing you the best

As well, you'll have Chibi Usagi's support, no matter if you are older or younger is probably that she grows attached to you since in Crystal Tokyo she used to be more lonely, so, if you don't mind, she will grow a little clingy with you (just like she is with Plut), she will be bothered if you decided to don't tell her and gets to know because of the other sailor scouts, but at the end she will be the first one asking you about it, she will be really interested and will tell you her own veredict about your crush, telling you if is a good or bad person for you (she is being a little prideful and playful, but at the end she wants the best for you)

However, no matter if they all are pretty cheerful about this whole situation everyone wants the best for you and will cheerish for you, actually giving you some useful advices, however there are also high chances that they will end up embarrasing you by trying to help (hopefuly not in front of your crush), also, some of them will try to watch carefuly your crush to make sure they don't want to take advantage of you because of your title

In which y/n meets Kousuke Hirahara while delivering files as a business partner, only to be sprayed with makeup remover.

You walked through the large building of the Hirahara building, stopping when you saw the large plaque Kousuke Hirahara displayed on the large wooden door. 

"Excuse me?" You knocked. "I need to speak with Mister Hirahara about an urgent matter." 

After much silence, you were preparing to contact him through your phone until the door suddenly swung open while a large spray of mist met your face. 

"What the f- I mean, what is the meaning of this?" You quickly corrected yourself as you felt the liquid drip down your face. 

"For the last time, Meg, I don't want to go out with......" 

Through your blurred vision, you could see a man wearing a navy blue suit holding the door with a shocked expression on his face. 

"Oh, uhm.. I'm.." 

Without a second word, you speed walked toward the exit of the main building, not even looking up to see anyone. However, you didn't need to reach your car to know what your face must have looked like from the gasps and snickers following your every step. 

Opening the compass mirror, you saw mascara dripping down your chin while eyeliner blended and smudged with your delicately placed eyeshadow. 

"Fuck, who the hell was that bitch." You were literally on the verge of tears because of how ruined the eyeliner you spent hours upon hours irritating your skin looked. The number of times you almost stabbed your eye to make your eyeliner wings look at least decent became ruined due to whatever that prick had sprayed on your face. 

Being the daughter of another wealthy CEO made you need to constantly be aware of your language around other people, especially future business partners. Today, you had to deliver files required for a transaction between your family company and the Hirahara company. This was all going to be secured by a masquerade ball held by the Hirahara's to uphold a standing relationship between the two families, although, you knew it was just for the look and aesthetic. 

If there was now a choice between attending or not, your immediate decision would be to continue studying for the university entrance exams.

As it fell into the night, you carefully exited the large car your family showed off at formal events. The mask covering your face was adorned with tiny crystals on strips of lace. Sitting on top of everything was a small feather and flower, matching with the rest of your relatives.  

"Y/n." Your father's voice spoke lowly beside you. "Please watch your language tonight, as this is quite a formal event. I will allow you to go into the bars if it means you keep your mouth shut." 

Honestly, this seemed like a pretty fair deal to you, as many close calls from you on the verge of swearing had put you in hot waters. 

Small groups of other people in masks gathered around snack tables, which was where you immediately headed. 

Your eyes scanned the endless deserts as you immersed yourself in the bland conversations of others around you as you held tightly onto your plate. 

Spotting a slice of tiramisu, you reached to grab it from the table before someone handheld it from the opposite side. Looking up, you saw the same blue suit of the prick who had sprayed you with who knows what. 

"Excuse me?" You take a deep breath, deciding to let go of the incident. For now. "I was going to take that tiramisu." 

You say while tugging on the plate and maintaining direct eye contact with the rude ass guy.

"No, I believe I grabbed this tiramisu first. Kindly take your hands off." He retorted. 

Damn, the nerve of that guy was going to boil you in anger. 

You continued dragging the tiramisu closer to you until the sudden pull on his end caused it to crash onto the ground. 

"Are you serious-". You began to say before realizing that being seen in another situation such as this could lead to another rumor about the heir of Y/n company doing blah blah bullshit. 

So, without a second thought, you booked it out of there and upstairs into a bar. The immediate change in vibes was insane, with rap and disco lights shining weird reflections of color onto the glass wine bottles. 

"Can I just have an iced water?" You shouted over the blaring music. 

Sitting into the backless chairs, you released a sigh and rested your head on your hand. How can a single guy spoil so much in a person's day?

The second your water hit the table, you snatched it and walked into an empty balcony. Your hands were turning numb due to the cold air and the ice cooling your drink. You began to enjoy the peace of being outside without the perfect facade everyone put on.

Jealousy. You wondered if you could ever experience jealousy, or maybe not. Until now, you never experienced jealousy, maybe because you never liked someone more than just a friend. However, a certain cat boy and animal lover are your best friends. You also wonder if you took a liking for them, well, for him, maybe a bit. But you don't know if he likes you back, even for a tinnie tiny bit. He is close to the 1/4 Medusa and 3/4 human girl, after all. You thought that you might get jealous, instead, he is. It all started from a little misunderstanding that drove him crazy, he thought that he might lose you, instead, you become his after.

You, Seto, and Kano visited a park. It is the middle of autumn, and the leaves are falling freely to the ground. Their brilliant colors decorated the quiet place. "It sure is nice to relax in a place like this," You said, sitting on a bench. "It sure is" The #2 of the Dan agreed, sitting on your left. "Iya~ [Name]-chan is right~" A certain cat-boy placed his arm around your shoulder flirtatiously as he sat on your right. "Kano, you know that [Name] will beat you later when you do that" Seto warned the boy, though he just said that to get his arms off the girl. "Hm~? You worry much, Seto. See? She didn't even move a bit, or flinch. Which means she liked it, right [Name]-chan?" Kano replied to the other male, he then turned to the female beside him who seemed lost in a daze. When she didn't reply, the two males looked at her. "[Name]-chan?" Kano asked, looking at her dazed face.  "Are you alright?" Seto asked next, worried for her. When they looked at your face, you were staring at the couple sitting under the shade of the tree. They both kissed and you just stared at them.

"[Name]-chan wants to experience a kiss, do you~?" Kano asked you, flirtatiously yet playfully. "Hell no!" You pushed his face away from yours as you removed his arms from you aggressively. "Hahaha, told you she hated it" Seto laughed half-heartedly as he stood up. You and Kano looked at him, you stopped torturing Kano for a bit. "Where are you going?" You asked him then removed your hands from Kano's neck. "I'm going to buy us drinks" Seto smiled. "Thanks for saving me, Seto" Kano winked at him, he also placed his arms behind the bench. "Sure," Seto said then went away. "Iya~ [Name]-chan wants to experience a kiss, eh~?" Kano teased, and a tick mark appeared on your forehead. "No way!" You snapped at him. "You want to have your first kiss with Seto, right?" He asked, his tone slowly becoming serious. You suddenly blush at this, your heart pounded hard but not that fast. "I assume that's a yes" He smirked, and you just growled. "I don't know..." You sighed heavily. "It's just........ Seto likes Marry, right?" You turned to him, eyes filled with sadness.

"Hm...." Kano placed his index finger and thumb on his chin. "Actually, Seto and Mary are only friends. But I can say that he likes you more" He stated while staring at the skies. "Like me?" You raised your eyebrow and then looked at him. "Yep. He likes you a lot" Kano nodded his head. "How can you say that?" You asked again, and now you are confused. Seto can't possibly like you, right? I mean, you are just normal. You don't have any powers just like him, Kano, and Marry. And also, Seto has known Marry for a long time, long before you arrived. "It's just a hunch" He grinned in reply. "Stupid hunch" You pouted then crossed your arms. "Hey, my hunches are always accurate" He retorted while nearing his face to yours.

You felt very hot by the closeness the two of you are in. He is just one inch away from you, close to kissing. "You're red, do you enjoy it?" Kano teased flirtatiously, cupping your cheeks with his hand. Your face got redder by his sudden touch, you could feel that your heart would burst against your chest. Before Kano could even lean close to you, you heard metal click against the hard cold stone. Kano quickly pulled away from you and then looked behind you. You looked back too and saw a shocked Seto, the can of drinks he was carrying was dropped on the ground. "S-Seto!" You were shocked by this, Seto almost witnessed you kiss Kano. "S-S-Seto! This is just a misunderstanding!" You tried to defend yourself and Kano. His expression turned from shock to enrage. "Seto is angry" Kano muttered and you could say that he smirked.

The black-haired male grabbed your wrist rather tight then pulled you away from the blonde. "H-hey, Seto! It hurts!" You yelled at him, being pulled away from the park. When he didn't reply, you only struggled from his grip. "Seto!" You screamed at him. He then released you and pinned you in a dark alleyway. You could feel his hard gaze on you like you could melt any minute now. "Set-" You didn't have a chance to start your sentence when he suddenly kissed your lips aggressively. At first, you struggled to get away from him, but you then relaxed and kissed him back passionately. Your kissing session didn't last when both of you parted for air. "I'm..... I'm sorry..." He panted then removed his arms from you, his back facing you. "Seto, you're jealous, are you?" You asked him, walking to face him. His face is red from embarrassment and his eyes show sadness and apology. "Yeah..." He muttered, low but still audible. "Don't worry, Seto" You assured him, cupping his cheeks with your hand. He looked at you in confusion. "You're the one I love, no one else" You told him then kissed his lips, he didn't hesitate to kiss you back passionately. "I thought I would lose you to Kano forever" Seto pulled back from the kiss. "Now I'm yours" You stated then kissed him again.

You can't tell, for sure, how long you have been in a shower. But, you have a feeling, that it wasn't that long. Still, somehow, Dazai not only managed to get into your room. He also managed to stole your blankets, and hide them somewhere in a house.

"How?" was the only thing that you managed to say. You know, that you were supposed to feel angry, or, at least, irritated, but, you have your curiosity, and you want to satisfy it.

Dazai, dressed in his pajamas, and who was now laying on your bed, looked into your eyes. At least, tried. Because you, in return, try not to look at him.

"I have my ways, Iris Flower. So, listen to my demands, if you want to see your blankets again!" Dazai patted the mattress near him. "I demand cuddles, love and protection! If I didn't get them, you will never see your blankets again!"

You probably could go to someone else's room and ask to spend a night with them. Then, in the morning, go with Fitzgerald and buy new blankets, then ask Oda to help you install a locker on your wardrobe, where you kept blankets. For a few hours your blankets will be secure. Then Dazai will pick up the lock and everything will start again.

Dazai reached his arms towards you. His smug grin was replaced with a pout.

"Please, My Kind Iris Flower, I was searching for a sanctuary! Please, let me stay! And give me love and cuddles! Come on~ Look at me~!"

You rubbed your temples. You need to stay focused.

"Why do you even need to a sanctuary?" asked you, looking at your chair. It was a good chair. Interesting chair. You will look at the chair. And not at Dazai.

"Uncle Dazai, can you read us this book?" Sakura was holding one of the books you recommend Oda to get for his kids. Yuu, Katsumi, Kousuke, Shinji and Aya were standing behind Sakura, making their best puppy dog eyes. Dazai rolled his eyes, but took the book from Sakura. You asked him to babysit kids, and he will do his job perfectly. For you.

"Clifford, The Big Red Dog." Dazai read the title.

It was the bad. This idea was on his mind ever since he started reading that book. Bad idea. And a golden opportunity.

Dazai smiles, looking at kids.

"Kids, you know, that Clifford became big, because Emily Elizabeth loved him so much? Do you want to help a red chihuahua pup became as big as Clifford?"

Kids eagerly nodded, waiting for Dazai's instructions.

"You asked kids to pamper Chuuya?!" You turned your head towards Dazai, staring at him. Big mistake.

Dazai came to you prepared. He did his best to look adorable and cuddly. He brushed his hair, and it looked extremely fluffy. His pajamas have a cute cat paw print and looked cozy and warm. He was constantly doing a puppy dog eyes, pouting a little. You could swear, that Dazai apply something, to make his eyelashes look extra thick tonight. And on his cheeks. Otherwise, you can't explain, why he has blush on his cheeks. Dazai rolled on his back, opening his arms for a hug. He stuck a tip of his tongue.

He literally made a "blep face". Is it your payment for comparing Dazai to a cat?

"I knew, that Chihuahua Nakahara won't yell at kids~ And the opportunity was rare and golden! Yet, I didn't expect kids to get busted and told Chihuahua about me!"

Dazai smiles, closing his eyes. You probably should look away and broke the "Dazai's cuteness" spell. But you can't! His hair looked too fluffy! His chest looks too comfortable to lay on! He looked squishable!

Now, you will say no to him, you will get him out of your room and make him to deal with the mess he has created!

"Comfy, [Y/N]?" asked Dazai, stopping showering you with kisses. He was laying on top of you. His body pressed tightly against yours. You were trapped. You can try to wiggle out of Dazai's grasp, but he has you pinned firmly enough down that only a burst of effort could free you. And you don't want to hurt him. Or stop cuddling.

"Mhm" mumbled you, running your fingers through his brown hair. With your second arm around his waist, you move your hand down from time to time to dance across his side.

Dazai's grin became bigger, and he returned to showering your cheeks with kisses.

"Good. I can't let my benevolent savior be unsatisfied with cuddles."

Suddenly, Dazai rolled down from you, laying on the opposite side of your bed. He, asked, looking deep into your eyes.

"Now, it's your turn. Remember, I still hold your blankets hostage!"

He lay his head down, looking at you. His eyelids were half-closed.

"Be grateful, that you are cute." You huffed, getting on top of Dazai. Now you were pinning him firmly against the mattress. Dazai's quiet laughter was your answer.

You nuzzle against his neck, leaving a trail of kisses. Dazai's laugh end in a cough. You knew without looking, that now he was blushing again. You lift your body a little, so you can put both of your hands on his tummy, while having access to his neck and face.

Your hands roam around his chest and stomach, while you planted kisses on Dazai's cheeks, temples, nose, forehead and chin. Dazai left out a soft moan, before putting his hands around you, pressing you against him. Dazai turned on his, still holding you.

You two were laying face to face. Dazai's hold on you was firm. You can feel the warmth coming from him.

Dazai pull his face into your hair.

"Heaven..." whispered him. "True bliss..."

He yawned, pressing you even closer to himself.

"Thank you, [Y/N]."

You also yawned, nuzzling against his neck.

"You are welcome. Good night, Osamu."

In the dark of the night, quiet words were your answer.

“ Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Yuji said. He was very upset about you starving yourself all for a guy. It was absolutely stupid for you to do such a thing. “Whatever Yuji it’s fine. I swear.” He wanted to slap some sense into you but instead he walked away. As he turned around the corner you frowned.

Yuji Itadori is attracted to you. When people make fun of your appearance he’s TTG.(trained to go.) He is ready to fight. “What’s up with you?” Megumi asked Yuji as he slammed his fist at the wall. “ I hate him. I loathe him. I’d beat him to death if I could.” He then looked at his hand still feeling rage even after causing himself harm. “ You have to respect her decisions even if it ends up messy.” Megumi said patting his back. Megumi was right. It’s your life. You create your own path with the decisions you make. “He’s a total dick. Even his name sucks. Kousuke.” Yuji spoke while he cleaned the blood off his hand.

NEXT DAY

“You should really try using a waist trainer or something’s to show off your boobs that way people focus more on that than your fat.” Kousuke said laughing afterwards to make it sound like a joke. “I know right!” You giggled but actually understood. “She’s perfect the way she is Kousuke. If you don’t like that then you can leave.” Yuji spoke giving him a death glare. “Yuji he’s just giving me ideas on how to lose weight.” You defended him. Kousuke then leaned down and pecked your cheek. “See you later darling.” He whispered in your ear and walked away. “ He’s messing with you y/n. Open your eyes. You shouldn’t change for someone. You’re beautiful already.” He said as you both headed to the restaurant where you planned to meet up with Megumi and Nobara. “ Excuse me..y/n..may I speak to you please.” Umi (Kousuke’s ex.) She’s skinny and small. She almost looks sick. “Hey Umi” you smiled. “I came to warn you. . . Kousuke isn’t who you think he is. He’s manipulating you..he also gaslights.. he’ll have you end up like me.. sick until it takes a while to recover. Like me and the ex before me. He loves playing with girls weight and feelings. It does matter to him how much we weigh just as long as we end up messed up. Please listen to me..I don’t want you to suffer.” She spoke shedding tears. “He’s lovely don’t worry. He hasn’t been harmful.” She looked at you with such a worried and saddened expression. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” She walked away.

As time passed by you did lose weight but you looked unhealthy. You lost 70 pounds from 194(your weight). In and unhealthy way. Along the way you stopped hanging out with Megumi,nobara and Yuji. You stayed beside Kousuke and his friends. Yuji might have not talked to you anymore but he always watched you. Watched you leaving the girls bathroom holding your stomach with a pale face after you threw up your lunch. Watched you only picking at your food then throwing it away. Watched you cry in silence in the old gymnasium the school didn’t use anymore. He watched as you fainted multiple times during PE class.

One day during an exam you passed out falling of your chair hitting you head against the wall then the ground causing you to bleed. Yuji ran over lifting you up. “Don’t just fucking look call an ambulance!!” He yelled.

“Who are you? If you’re not family you can go ahead and leave.” A nurse said. Yuji laughed at her. “You’re fucking funny.I’m staying in this room with her. Call security if you’d like. I’m not leaving her side.” The nurse sighed. She didn’t want to start a scene. It was a full house after wall. Two hours passed. They had you with 2 Iv’s.You’re dehydrated and malnourished. They were surprised how long you lasted like that. “Y-Yuji oh sweetheart thank you for watching her until we got here.”Your mother said. After all you moved in with your grandma just to attend this school with Yuji so it took your parents awhile. “I’m staying here with her just in case you guys need to go and grab things.” Yuji replied watching as your parents sat in chairs beside you. “Yes son thank you we appreciate it.” Your father said. He loves Yuji for you. He thinks he’s a hardworking, respectful, smart and strong man for his daughter.

You finally woke up feeling dizzy with a headache as well. “My love Hi sweetheart” Your mother said tearing up. “Hey flower.” Your father said with a lump in his throat. “You’re awake y/n” Yuji said with tears slipping. He was angry at himself for not stopping you or at least trying.

The following months Kousuke dumped you. In front of everyone. He made sure it embarrassed you.

Afterwards you sat alone during lunch and In classes as well. Your heart ached but it was your fault you ended up like how you are. You couldn’t face your friends especially Yuji. Until you had the courage to. “Hi… Um… Y-Yuji.” You said tapping his shoulder hoping he’d turn around and acknowledge you. You teared up and tapped his shoulder again. Your heart was pounding. “Oh hey y/n.” He replied upset. “I’m sorry for not listening to you. I ended up like this .. you cared for me all along. I can’t believe we stopped talking. I messed up and I’m sorry.” You cried gripping his jacket not knowing you were. He suddenly held you in his arms. “Don’t you dare hurt yourself like that again. I’m not ever allowing you to leave my life again. I love you. I always will. I’m glad your health is better and your weight is good. My chubby girl.” He said crying ugly. It was pretty funny. “ I will accept your feelings just give me time okay. I do like you. Being away from you after the hospital made me think so many things…dad was right. You’re meant to be for me.” You said holding onto him tight. “You’re meant for me y/n. I’m so lucky.” He said not letting go.

when the sun meets the moon outtakes: in which Bokuto adopts a dog

a/n: as the name suggests, an outtake from my fic when the sun meets the moon.

Bokuto Koutaro is a kind man with a good heart. 

You grew up experiencing crudeness and petty meanness and you’ve grown jaded, expecting nothing more of people, but ever since Bokuto came into your life, he’s made you believe that there is kindness and goodness in the world, if only you stop to look. And so you fell in love with him, your sunshine boy with a heart of pure gold, got married after he proposed to you in front of thousands of volleyball fans, popped out three gorgeous sons.

“A wolfpack”, Kiyoomi names your little Kous, his lips tilting upwards when he’s called in as reinforcement by Hinata when Bokuto brings them into practice . You think the name quite fitting considering the way they boisterously roll around with their father and find themself in mischief in a myriad of ways, though you suspect Kiyoomi’s opinion of said wolfpack nosedives dramatically after his daughter is inducted as an honourary member with a ridiculous ritual involving a homemade obstacle course in his living room, aided and abetted by Koutarou himself. 

In this instance, however, Sachiko is very much the instigator of mischief. 

You should’ve noticed something was off when she yelled a panicked “bye auntie!” and bounced past you at breakneck speed to get out of your front door. 

“Huh”, you say. “How strange.”

What’s even stranger is that none of your sons come out to greet you. Usually they’d be racing to see who reaches her first when she gets home from a long day of work, the winner celebrating by leaping into your arms (and oftentimes knocking you flat onto the floor). What’s a hundred million billion times stranger (Kousuke’s words, not hers, he’s started learning bigger numbers at school) is that Koutaro himself isn’t coming out to wrap you in his arms with a bear hug, peppering you with questions about your day. 

“Kou?” you call. Usually that’s enough to get all four of them running, but not today. 

You slip off your shoes. There’s a suspicious looking packet by the dining table that catches your eye. A happy looking dog in bright colours on the front of the packet is all you need to know. 

Leaving on your socks to dampen your footsteps, you press your ear to your sons’ bedroom. 

“Hide him in the wardrobe ‘til okaa-san sits down for dinner!”

“He’s not going to stay in the wardrobe for a whole hour?!” 

“How d’you even know it’s a he? Sachiko said it might be a she!” 

You throw open the door. Four faces turn to look at you, three a picture of practised innocence, your husband alone looking guilty. 

“Is there something I should know about?” you ask. 

“Nothing!” your sons shout in perfect synchrony. Bokuto stares at the floor. You can almost see his ears droop. 

You take pity on him, striding over to throw open the wardrobe. A puppy with yellow fur and a stub for a tail stares woefully at you. You resist the urge to drop to your knees and squeal at its utter cuteness. 

“And what do we have here?” you do your best at trying to sound stern. 

Finally, your husband speaks up. “Babyyy”, he tries pleading, though he stops short as you raise an eyebrow. “The kids found this poor little thing in the drain and it looked so cold and hungry I said we should take it home and take care of it ‘til it’s okay.” 

Your boys sense a moment of weakness. 

“‘Kaa-sannn it was shivering” Kouji does his best attempt at pouting pitifully. 

“And it was raining”, Kouichi reasons. “We couldn’t leave it there! It’d be sad!”

Kousuke, your youngest, rounds up the rear with his most devastating weapon, puppy dog eyes of his own. “Kaa-san pleaseeee can we keep it?”

“Fine”, you sigh, making a show of exasperation because your boys, if left unchecked, would bring every pitiful critter and being under your roof and you have no desire for your home to turn into a menagerie. “We’ll take it to the vet on the weekend, and discuss if we can keep it if it isn’t microchipped okay?” 

Cheering, your boys run out of their bedroom to acquaint the puppy to its new home. 

You turn your attention to Bokuto. “Kou”, you start to say, but he’s already hugging you close. 

“Sorry”, he chuckles. “I know I should’ve talked to you first about it.”

You poke his chest. “Sometimes, I wonder how that big heart of yours fits into your chest.” 

“I’m sorry -” 

“Don’t be”, you smile. “That’s why I love you.”

He presses kisses into the crown of your head. 

“That doesn’t mean you’re getting out of teaching the boys how to be responsible for our newest family member though. 

“Oh no”, he groans.

Your smile widens into a mischievous grin. “Oh yes”, you say. “That includes walks and cleaning up after accidents and scheduling mealtimes and all of that. I suppose it’ll teach them how to be responsible at the very least.”

His mouth curls up in a matching grin. “I guess that also means Omi-omi’s got some responsibilities too since Sachiko-chan said she has a quarter-share in our pup!” 

You expect another irate call from Sakusa Kiyoomi tomorrow. It’s okay, you’ll divert his calls to your irrepressible husband anyway.

Rand the Damned

Something that has become really apparent to me about ILY, especially the more I have these deep dives into the characterizations, is that ultimately, ILY explores characters who are trying to survive. Nearly every character in ILY is clearly someone trying to survive their circumstances, and while some are very obvious (Shinae, Nol, Kousuke) others you need to examine differently in order to see they, too, are trying to survive (Alyssa, Rand, Yui). Something I feel that ILY does especially well is the interpersonal relationships based on both context and circumstances, and why certain characters are able to better get along with each other and others continue to butt heads. For instance, Nol and Kousuke have always struggled because Nol was never able to see what Kousuke's real battle is - that his quest for Rand's acceptance has been but a small part of his psyche. Without understanding how Kousuke has been manipulated, gaslit, and literally drugged, how could Nol ever begin to understand why Kousuke treats him that way?

Abuse and trauma alters peoples' brains. It's not something that you just... one day wake up from and move on. We will spend our whole lives trying to unlearn our unhealthy behaviors, our coping mechanisms and that's for those of us who haven't experienced such brain-altering abuse and trauma. A very common theme of ILY remains repeating cycles - that people who never get to heal, or don't heal in a healthy way, will continue to perpetuate their cycles of abuse, of their trauma, of their unhealthy learned behaviors. Someone who grows up feeling like they are not allowed to express emotions, feeling like they must tiptoe around others' emotions is going to struggle to open up about their feelings, to feel like their emotions are valid, that they're allowed to feel and talk about what they feel, and thus, their relationships with others are impacted. What happens when they are close to someone who feels like they are being deliberately locked out and left in the dark? How do you resolve issues when you feel like you have to pack away your feelings and pretend you're fine, everything is okay?

This is something that permeates ILY at all corners, because it's fundamental to every interpersonal relationship - that we unwittingly pass on the hurt that has hurt us, that our experiences alter our perception, alter our behavior, alter the way we handle things. When I talk about Everyone x Therapy, this is what I mean. Nearly everyone in ILY carries some kind of hurt, some more deeply than others. This includes even the characters we as readers perceive as hurtful: Sangchul, Rand, Yui. Perhaps even Gun Kim, but frankly that is something I cannot bring myself to get into and I think we lack enough information to examine (but even in his case we can look at his father and glean how Gun would turn out the way he did).

Perhaps this will eventually become a series, where I sit and examine some of these characters more closely, as I have with Kousuke and Alyssa. But at this time I'm focusing on Rand, because I find him to be an incredibly polarizing character depending on the take you have. How dare you sympathize with someone who has been such a terrible father tends to be the main gut reaction, but as with all parents of ILY, there is no such thing as a good, perfect parent. At the end of the day, parents are people also trying to navigate their lives with the extra responsibility of someone else they're meant to take care of, to look after, to raise, with few resources and no guidebooks. The one thing ILY has taught me is to re-examine my own life, my relationship with my parents and the ways they hurt vs helped me, and their circumstances. Ultimately, we will always be victims of our circumstances, the results of our experiences.

So! Let's talk about Rand!

Firstmost and foremost, I want it to be clear that I'm not writing this in an effort to make people care about Rand or make him into someone's favorite character, but instead just to help people better understand him and his motivations. Too often I think we fall into the trap of believing that we can only like good characters and that liking those who hurt others or cause harm makes us bad people. But ILY is a fictional story. No one is being hurt. What I think ILY provides us, though, is a deeper understanding of real people and the ways that all people are complex, no matter how shallow they seem. This isn't about making Rand into a favorite character, but instead it's about examining Rand's circumstances.

When we examine characters through a lens of survival, it helps us to better understand their motivations and choices, as well as what is at risk and what they stand to lose which heavily factors into their motivations and why they make the choices they do. There's a lot we still don't know about the nature of Rand and Yui's relationship: were they ever lovers; did she ever fool him into thinking she was something else; was it always a business arrangement? This leads us to further questions, like did he meet Nessa before or after he married Yui? Because so much of ILY is about these cycles and parallels, we can look at Rand and assume that maybe, much like Nol has tried to do, Rand denied himself something he wanted in favor of something else, something he thought he needed more. As a businessman, it's easy to see how perhaps he and Yui were an arranged marriage, something not for love but instead for mutual benefit (and this feels even more plausible given how likely it is that Yui herself was not allowed to inherit the company but instead needed someone who would be adopted into the family via marriage and treated like a true Hirahara and needed him in order to have any role in the family business that she coveted). If Rand knew Nessa before, perhaps he told himself that what he felt about Nessa was a thing that would pass, something he could live without. Perhaps he convinced himself that the ends would justify the means, that his life would be better if he made this choice and denied himself something else he wanted. Love? Love can come and go. You can move on from anyone, anything.

But it's clear to us that Rand never moved on from Nessa. Long after he lost her, he carried her with him in that Bible. He may have told Shinae that it didn't hold luck for him anymore, that it hasn't for a long time, but that doesn't mean it stopped mattering to him. In a time when Nol needed it most, Rand gave up something that had brought him comfort in solace, in hopes that it can provide something of comfort for him, too.

What has been something of a safety raft for Rand to cling to as he treads the waters of survival has now been passed to his son, and I think this is as good a time to examine Rand through this lens of survival, and to better understand why he has made the choices he has and further, that I fear no choice Rand could have made would have been the right choice; it never existed, he was always damned if you do, damned if you don't.

A special interest of quimchee's appears to be female-enacted domestic violence. This has come up a couple times before, and is a theme she's talked about before on streams about wanting to explore, but I think we are seeing that quietly explored in ILY as well, though it's not the forefront of the story. Yui as a character very much is one who leads a reign of reign of terror, who so confidently believes that she is the hero of the story and everyone who stands against her opposes her, and thus are an obstacle to be taken out. Now, I still intend to write at great length about how I view Yui and what are her motivations and drivers, but the watered down summary is: I believe Yui was once the victim of abuse in addition to having always felt like she is lesser simply for being born a woman and bears a grudge against men and deeply resents them for what they are so easily afforded that she is not, that she was never given the opportunity or the space to heal and internalized this to believe that people deserve what happens to them, that those who are incapable of fighting back are deserving of what happens to them. This is integral in understanding Yui and how, yes, Rand's hands have always been tied by her.

I think when I say this, people think this immediately excuses Rand from the hurt he's caused, but it is so very important that we examine the ways that Rand's hands are tied, so that we can understand how nothing could really have been different, to understand why (in his eyes) he is doing the best he was able to. Again, an underlying theme is that people very much are often the victims of their circumstances. Yui herself even touches on this, noting that she is aware she is afforded opportunities, privilege, that most aren't. She herself also takes advantage of circumstances, in order to better orchestrate what she wants. For instance, consider the way Kousuke was left isolated - she took advantage of her husband's unhealthy work/life balance and further drove a wedge between him and his son so that Kousuke would forever feel like he is working towards an (unobtainable) goal, so that Rand would always be greatly out of reach, so that they could never become equals, be peers, so that Kousuke would always feel that feeling of inferiority and then she learned to utilize that inferiority as a weapon against Nol as well as to further isolate Kousuke, leave him dependent upon her.

Yui knows what she's doing, and Rand's circumstances are very much the base of this analysis.

What was the nature of their relationship? Was it simply a business arrangement Rand thought stood to benefit him? Or, a possibility I explore a lot more lately, was it possible that Yui tricked him in some way, took advantage of a more sympathetic nature perhaps Rand once possessed? I don't think we necessarily need to know yet what the circumstances are, because what matters is where that left Rand.

The mukoyoshi theory becomes ever more important the more we learn about these characters, and as we view their situations through the lens of this theory, we start to better understand the dynamics it's created. Supposing this theory holds true - and I believe it must, since we have canonical proof now Rand has taken the Hirahara name as his own - it sets the following precedent: through marriage to Yui, Rand has been adopted into the family as though he himself is a true Hirahara born of their blood, and as it appears that men are afforded more rights/opportunities, in some way Rand holds more rights in Yui's family than Yui herself does. She could not inherit the family company herself and instead had to marry someone else in order to carry on the lineage, had to give birth to a son to carry it on from them. I'm not going to get too deeply into this, because I think this is for another post, but again, this precedence is important because we need to understand why Yui would resent Rand for reasons beyond his affair, why from the very moment he married her he was likely trapped in her web, and why his circumstances were always against him.

Truly the greatest "mistake" Rand likely made was marrying Yui, but we're well beyond that now.

Yui very much is a controlling, abusive partner and it's clear to us now how she's been manipulating and abusing far longer than Rand's infidelity existed. We can see in Kousuke's early memories that the agitation between Rand and Yui in their clashing parenting styles had already become a thing that was wearing him down, that she gloated from her throne where she maintained the upper hand. Yui possesses incredible finesse when it comes to how she orchestrates things, how she nudges the truth, how she hardly has to do any heavy lifting for things to fall right into place. There's a whole essay that could be written on Rand's role in both the company and as a father and the crux of it always comes back to: he was damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. As part of the mukoyoshi concept, Rand has a duty to the company he has inherited, to the family he has been adopted by, to oversee things to ensure things run as well as they can. But as a husband and father, he has an obligation to his family. We see it often in businessmen, in people of the corporate world whose entire livelihoods depend on their career that they must make a choice. At this time it appears as though Yui's father regards Rand favorably, but would he have if Rand had chosen to downsize his responsibilities? Had Rand chosen to be around more as Kousuke was being raised? Especially if it's as we think with the Hirahara family, where childrearing is seen as a woman's role, that this is what Yui should be focusing on and that Rand, the mukoyoshi, had a role to fulfill separate of that?

When Yui told Kousuke that they are different from others, she was not wrong. We cannot view Rand through the same lens we would a man of lesser stature than him. We have to view him through his circumstances.

And his circumstances lead us here: to a man whose wife has probably been playing mind games with him from the get go who is trying his best both as an obligation to the family and his company and also to himself. We get enough glimpses into Kousuke's past to know that it's not that Rand had no interest in his son's life. In fact, Rand on many occasions is seen trying to instill something in Kousuke, trying to help him be aware of both his opportunities and privilege as well as the limitlessness of all that he could grow to be. I can only speculate, but with what we know, I have no doubts there was a lot of clever orchestration on Yui's part as to Rand's availability. They're both chairpersons of the company, and yet one of them was far more tied up - the one of them who is seen as more valuable to the family and company.

I want it made clear: what exists between Rand and Yui (and Kousuke) predates the affair and Nol. Yui was never a scorned lover who took things out on her lover's mistress and son. Had Rand never had an affair, he would still have been in this predicament with Yui and Kousuke, would have always struggled to reach his son as Yui continued to drive that wedge, to orchestrate their differences, to run interference. It was always Yui's intention that Rand be someone so completely out of reach of Kousuke that he would always be stuck vying for his attention, always trying to reach and surpass him, always so hungry or that approval that never came through. It just happened to be that Rand’s affair yielded another child, a potential heir (because it’s through Rand’s blood that the company goes), that she married this commoner man and afforded him everything she’d coveted and he embarrassed her, threw it all in her face, and made her look bad, created a threat to Kousuke’s position. But she already resented him, I think. She already had every intention of using Kousuke to take back what she believes is hers.

At some point, Rand must have grown exhausted, and maybe he gave up. Was that right, was that fair, when he had a child? When giving up hurt that child? When it comes to Rand, I think a lot about the safety demonstrations on airplanes, when they tell you not to try to help others (like your children) until you have helped yourself, until you've got your flotation device, your oxygen mask. If Rand himself is drowning, with Yui running laps around him running him ragged, how can he possibly help Kousuke? How can he possibly keep walking out into a hurricane, getting buffeted and thrown backwards by the wind, using all your energy just trying to catch up, much less ever getting where you need to be?

And that's the thing. When I say Rand's hands are tied, I don't mean it to absolve him - I say it to explain him. That Rand was always losing, that Yui has always had the upper hand. Rand has spent all of his time simply trying to catch up, much less ever getting to make an attack, much less ever getting to be a father.

I think a lot about the fact that at one time, Rand and Yui were separated, but they clearly never divorced. Why? What did he stand to lose if they did? I don't even mean just in his livelihood - though he certainly stood to lose a lot, and what happens to a mukoyoshi if they divorce, what assets would he lose? But more importantly: Rand stood to lose Kousuke. Even married to Yui he cannot protect Kousuke, but to be outside her reach? How much worse could it have been? Kousuke is already so incredibly isolated but we also know that Rand has tried to be Kousuke's father, that he has tried to reach out to him in ways that never reached Kousuke because of the interference Yui ran, because of the mindset that she had instilled in him as a young child that became such an inherent belief to him, because his love was commodified so that nothing he did or said to Kousuke could ever get through to this brain-washed child.

Another aspect of Rand's circumstances that are worth exploring is: he grew up an orphan. He was never adopted, he aged out of the system. Rand never had anyone to rely on, anyone to convey that warmth and love to him as a family might. He aged out and then took his life into his hands and became a self-made man with only his own back to rely on. Think about what that does to a person. Think about the way that might warp their perception of people and kindness and love. Maybe this was why it was so easy for him to choose a marriage for convenience. Maybe this was why he could pass up on the opportunity for real love. Maybe from a young age Rand was disillusioned, thought the world had nothing to offer him - the parallels between him and Nol are honestly staggering. Wouldn't it be so easy to make the choices he did, only to come to regret them later? To get a taste for something you thought impossible, or maybe something you thought you could give up, and be haunted by it?

It's not hard to surmise that Nessa must have been his true love, the one he could not quite give up, the one he couldn't let go of no matter how many years it had been since he made his choices, since he lost her, since everything went so wrong. And I think that as a result, it means that no matter what, his relationship with Nol would always, always be complicated. Nol would always be a reminder of what he had and what he lost - both in love and also in himself.

The parallels are truly staggering, and they extend far beyond the Rand Yui Nessa/Nol Alyssa Shinae cycle repeating itself. The kind of man young Nol described Rand as very much sounds like Yeonggi, like the kind of person Nol presented himself as. Yeonggi wasn't a mask just for Nol's friends - this was who everyone saw him as, including his family. Yeonggi was a means of staying off peoples' radars - never being so bad that he is in trouble, never being so great that he's also in trouble (with Yui and Kousuke). He was pleasant, got along with people, never caused trouble if he could help it. Not once was he roped into the family company - for better or for worse. He joked and laughed a lot, he seemed to always be there for friends. He was so much of what Nessa once saw in Rand.

Was it just that Nessa was the only person who drew that out of Rand? Or was it more of a parallel to Nol, that no matter how hard his life, these were integral core parts of him? Was he, at some point, taken advantage of? Did he trust the wrong person, reach out to someone undeserving? Was his kindness and friendship misconstrued by someone with far more nefarious intentions than he expected?

Something I can't help but think about a lot is the way that Rand always says what he means, but in cryptic ways, in ways Nol - and even often readers - cannot see through, that we have to reread again later. He never explains himself, never says what he means, and what is Nol to do with it, when everything Rand says comes off like a criticism of him no matter what? Much like Rand, Nol is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Does he please Rand or does he protect himself? Ultimately, they both have Nol's survival in mind, but one looks far less like it.

Consider Rand's words to Nol at the Kim formal - I don't deny that Rand said truly awful things. Does he fully mean what he says? Probably, in more ways than he can explain. When he tells Nol that he should be at Alyssa's side before someone less pathetic than him catches her attention, it feels both like "Do not leave her alone in a place like this with people like this because she will naively trust the wrong person and end up in a dangerous situation" and also "Behaving like this will drive away people like her". Is this the advice Nol needs? From his perspective, no. From his perspective, Rand finds him pathetic, finds him frivolous, thinks he's childish for being so lonely that he seeks out friendship at any opportunity, thinks he acts out just to spite him.

But from Rand's perspective, perhaps he thinks he is preparing Nol for this life - the family, the company, their social circle - the only way he can. He cannot reach out to Nol. He cannot be a father to him, lest Nol get punished more simply for existing. Rand knows all too well. He knows all too well what Yui is capable of - what she has done - and knows that in order to protect Nol, he had to create a buffer, the distance. In a way, it's like he sacrificed his right to be his father in an effort to keep him safe. For better or worse, Nol belongs to this society, too. He, too, needs to be aware of those around him, know who he can trust. In Rand's perspective, maybe Nol DOES look like he's foolish, going around trying to befriend people who might really be someone looking to take advantage of his kindness, who might be in Yui's pocket, who might be someone who doesn't have Nol's well being in mind. In staying with Alyssa, he's also keeping Nol out of harm's way, because he's not getting involved with anything.

Even though what happened to Shinae at the formal was clearly about Kousuke, Gun, and possibly Rand, it did still ultimately involve Nol. It did still ultimately get him involved and hurt - he wound up arrested and blamed for a crime he didn't commit and later took the blame for in court. Rand isn't entirely wrong: when Nol gets involved, it leads to more trouble, because Yui will take any and every opportunity to make his life worse. Even though this wasn't her ultimate goal (and it could be seen that Nol pleading guilty is not what she expected because Nol needs to be around and near Kousuke in order to be effective against him) it still worked to her advantage that it further plays into Nol's image that the public holds against him, that ensures Yui will be believed over Nol.

Rand isn't wrong: Nol underestimates Yui greatly, because he believes everything is about him and doesn't see how much worse it is, how much more of a monster she is, that this isn't about the illegitimate bastard son being a blight against her marriage, that it was always about so much more. And unfortunately we have seen that Rand is correct about other things, too - about how Nol's emotions get the best of him and while the "shove your feelings down and repress them" route is also not correct and healthy, we can see and at least understand why Rand operates the way he does, why he worries the way he does about Nol.

When I say Rand's hands are tied, I mean this: I mean that Rand has never had the opportunity to be a father to his children because Yui has deliberately run interference between him and one and if he shows any sign of affection, any sign of preferential treatment, any indication that he is trying to protect the other, it would make things worse for him.

He knows this.

Rand probably has an inkling about the night Nol was taken away - the first time he lost Nol. More than anyone else, Rand knows who Yui is, but has always been powerless against her. Without any proof of what she does, what can he do? How do you tell people that she is abusive when she doesn't lay a hand on you? When people make jokes of male domestic abuse survivors? How do you get people to see something that barely exists - because Yui doesn't have to get her hands dirty, because she never has to be direct. How do you make people see it?

When I say Rand's hands are tied, I mean whatever choice he makes would never be perfect, would never be right. What if he did it, left Yui and went to be with Nessa and raise Nol. What would change? Kousuke would be left even more alone. At least until now Kousuke felt that he wasn't good enough to receive Rand's care (even as Rand gave it) but what if he was convinced he was abandoned? And anyway, would Yui have stopped had Rand left her? I doubt it. It was never about the infidelity. If anything, it might have been worse. How dare this man, this commoner, come into her family and embarrass her - THEM - this way, to be given everything no one would give her just because he married her and then throw it away for what? Love? For a healthy relationship? To throw away everything she has coveted and worked so hard for? It would be such a slap to the face, an insult to her.

I don't think there was anything Rand could have done that would be "right". Yui would never let him know peace even if he left. If he fought harder, tried harder, maybe she'd have taken him down sooner. Perhaps not - she needed him to get this far so that Kousuke had someone to work towards, so that Kousuke can surpass him - but that doesn't mean she wouldn't have run him more ragged.

Do I agree with every choice he makes? Of course not. But I acknowledge that in his position, his choices are limited. I also acknowledge that in a man like him who has had to repress his emotions (lest Yui have something more to use against him), who has had to deny that he deeply cares (lest Yui continue to use that against him, to leverage it against him), who has been trying his damndest to survive and to help his sons survive when at every opportunity Yui is there to interfere has limited his choices. I understand where his agitation and fear and anger meet and how sometimes they are the same: how he wishes that Nol was never born because none of this would be so bad because if he'd never fathered another child then he wouldn't stand the possibility of being heir there would be no threat - that Nessa might still be alive, that Nol would never have existed to endure the abuse he did. I understand how he can mean and not mean the terrible things because he knows his role in all of this - that this was never about the infidel but it's still about the infidel, that Nol was always in danger no matter where he was. Reading 149 was the first time I really noticed, on a more immediate level - the way Rand speaks in double meanings, and how his fear and anger come out so often in what he says to Nol, because of how much he fears for him, because of how helpless he’s always been to protect him. “Why do you have to be my son?” Because maybe he both regrets that Nol is his son but more than that - what it means for him to be his son, the danger it put him in – that were he anyone else’s son, Yui wouldn’t have cared about him. He wouldn’t be in a position where he ever had to stand before the judge at all, let alone plead guilty for a crime he didn’t commit. “Why am I even trying, all of the effort will just go to waste”. And is he wrong? No matter the outcome, what good is all this effort? Not only that Nol himself can’t read Rand’s mind, but what if it went differently? Yui doesn’t stop - she has no intention and Rand knows it! If not this, it would be something else! “I should have just sent you away to boarding school from the very start.” Again, I don’t deny that a part of Rand probably means what he says, but I think the secondary meaning is still clear - at least if he’d sent Nol away maybe, just maybe, it could have protected him better. Maybe Rand thought keeping him close would be better, where he could see what was going on, maybe he worried he’d be in more danger if he couldn’t monitor him. Maybe a part of him couldn’t help but send away that one tie he had to Nessa - their child - had wanted to protect him for her.

I think that's the difficult thing about Rand. On some level, he acknowledges that thing are worse because Nol exists - but not in a "I hate my child" way but the guilt of a man who knows his child has suffered for his choices, the guilt of a man who knows that two peoples' (three when we include Kousuke, four when we include his own) lives have been ruined because of choices he made. It's not that Rand doesn't love his children - it's that he loves them so incredibly much and he is powerless to help them, that the effort he makes is never good enough that it makes it worse that it can't get through. That's the great tragedy: Rand was always damned if you do, damned if you don't, and it doesn't absolve him of the hurt he's caused Nol, but I also step back and acknowledge: what could he have done differently, that wouldn't have further endangered Nol? On some level, Rand has done what he thought was right. Only in hindsight can you look back and see how your choices were wrong, but even in hindsight you can only speculate, can only suppose. Would it have been better to send Nol away to boarding school, where he could have been away from everything? But that’s the thing with Yui, isn’t it? Her reach seems to extend as far as she wills it and she always gets her way. If she didn’t want Nol to go to a boarding school, she’d still find a way to stop it. And what if Rand had said screw it, stood up to her? Everything Rand did was ultimately to keep Nol and Kousuke alive, even if it was at the detriment of their relationship. He could have more openly defied Yui, but would she have let him get away with it? And who would protect Nol and Kousuke in his absence, if she did away with him sooner rather than later, if he went from being a fun game to an obstacle to be eliminated? 

Rand was always doomed to fail. That is the thing about Yui's trap - she was always set to have that advantage, Rand has always been trying to keep up. There was never a route where he succeeds here, because she always has the upperhand. What could Rand do for either of his sons that wouldn't have backfired? In a way, Rand's game has really been about the long haul. At some point, he must've known he'd never get to be their fathers. He tried! He continued to try. His methods aren't good but he tries to protect Nol, he tries to get through to Kousuke, he tries to give them the comfort he never had the opportunity to, but it's too late, it's all too late, but they are alive and that is what matters.

When Rand shows up after that night of absolute concern and worry, concerned about both of his sons, for the second time he runs the risk of losing Nol. He knows that it's too late, that nothing he can do at this point will help. He knows that at this point it's better to walk away, to leave Nol in the hands of those who can openly love him and openly take care of him, in the hands of those who don't endanger his life for caring. But we know that Rand loves him, no matter how much he has let his fear and anger mix up. We know what it has cost him, what he has lost.

The version of Rand that Nessa spoke of has never shown up. I don't think it's not that he never existed - it's that somewhere along the way he lost himself, the price he paid for perhaps the mistakes he made or the greatness he amassed. Maybe it was both. But he lost himself. He lost his sense of self, his identity. He lost both his sons, in more than one way. Rand, like so many others, is a character whose choices are rooted in his efforts at survival - but unlike others who are struggling to survive themselves, Rand's choices have been rooted so heavily in trying to help his children survive, too. He, more than anyone else, knows how dangerous Yui truly is, knows what she is capable of, knows that this is not only about Nol was never about Nol or the infidel, that it was always about more.

And yes, part of the tragedy is that when it comes to these cycles of abuse, sometimes the abused goes on to abuse, too. Rand closed himself off, repressed his feelings, tried to pretend he doesn't care, tried to hide how much he cared, and it still had ramifications. He did this to protect himself but look how it hurt others. And had done the opposite, it would have further hurt him and them. Something we as an audience come to realize is that Yui is so skilled at her manipulation, her execution of abuse, how she uses everything against everyone. Even her own son tries to hide his interests from her, tries to shut her out of his life because he, too, knows all too well what happens when Yui catches wind of any interest. So Rand closes himself off, he becomes an isolated fortress, an impenetrable island of a man that no one can reach and can reach no one. Maybe it's better, in his mind, that he was a cold, terrible father than one who couldn't protect him.

But the unfortunate truth is: there was so little Rand could ever do to protect them. He failed them, and not for lack of trying, but regardless, it was a failure still. And worse, because he was so blinded to what was happening, because so much of it was happening out of his line of sight, not only did he fail to protect Nol, but he drove him to another unforseen danger, one that he had hoped might be a life raft after all.

In the end, a man struggling cannot do much to save others when eh can barely save himself.

In the end, when Yui ties someone's hands, she does so expertly.

🧪 Tetsu fell in love too easily, that was how he ended up with a daughter and no mother in sight, that never bothered you though, the day that he expressed interest in you, you were more than willing to run with it. 🧪 Tetsu worked a lot, he had to if he wanted to support his Tomoe that unfortunately meant that for a long time there were things that went unnoticed, now that you were there that was less likely. 🧪 You knew that there was something going on the moment you saw the girl but you had to earn her trust before you could ever find that out but you were getting there. 🧪 It all came to a head when you went to pick up one day, you tried to deescalate the situation but that got you an elbow to the nose.

“Dad I messed up, Mum’s hurt!” Tomoe said not even giving Kuroo the chance to even greet her. “What do you mean?” He asked, expecting her to make a joke. “She’s bleeding.” Tomoe answered. “Tetsu I’m fine, I’m just going to have to leave the car at the school and pick it up in the morning when I drop her off.” You explained. “You can’t drive!?” He asked standing from his seat at the desk writing a note and putting it on his secretary’s desk before rushing out of the building. “Where are you?” “We’re at school.” Tomoe answered. “It’s just a nosebleed, Kuroo this really isn’t necessary.” You informed him as you tipped your head back to try and control the bleeding. “Babe I’m coming to get you both just wait there okay?” He ordered. “Alright we’ll stay put.” You sighed, closing the door and handing the phone cable to Tomoe. “You might as well put on some pusic it’ll take him some time to get here.”

After about 10 minutes there was a soft knock on the window, you pushed the door open and Tetsu crouched so that he could see your face “Here.” He said softly, handing you a packet of wet wipes, you carefully cleaned your face as he turned to Tomoe “what happened?” “I elbowed her in the face, I didn’t mean to.” She answered honestly. “It was a little misunderstanding, she ended up in a little fight, I was just splitting them up and got hit, she never meant to hit me.” You explained as you flinched while cleaning the last of the blood from your nose. “I hope you won.” Tetsu gestured for everyone to shuffle so that he could climb into the driver's seat. “She definitely won.” You smirked as he started the car. “Good.” He nodded as he leaned over and pressed a kiss to your cheek and started the car.

Later that evening after Tetsu went to go and pick up his car (that he had left at work) you were both lying in bed “Are you sure that you're okay?” He asked. “Hmm? Oh yeah I promise I’m just glad that she didn’t get hurt.” You answered. “You are perfect.” He mumbled pulling you in tighter and pressing his face into your shoulder “Yeah well you're taking her to school tomorrow, in case the kid’s waiting for her, I have a feeling this is more than just one fight.” You explained. “What makes you say that?” He asked. “Something has been going on with her, she doesn’t talk about it but there’s something.” You answered. “So fix it.” “Sure thing kitten.” He said softly “now get some rest.”

Kozume Kenma

🎮 Kenma still had a good friendship with his ex mostly because of his son, he wouldn't have tried so if Kousuke wasn’t born. 🎮 The fact that he had such a good friendship with his ex confused his son. He didn’t really care what his parents did as long as they were happy but he didn’t understand why they couldn’t be together if they were such good friends. 🎮 However the problem came when he started speaking to people online and they started telling him what they thought was going on. 🎮 He believed them and things started to escalate from there, you were losing control of the teen, even Kenma was noticing the changes between streaming and running his own business.

You walked into the living room where Kousuke was playing a game “hey it’s time to eat, will you come into the kitchen please?” You asked. “Yeah I'll be there in a minute.” He waved you off, you disappeared for 5 minutes before you walked back in. “Kousuke…” You called but he didn’t answer, you walked over to the plug socket and unplugged the games console. “What the fuck!?” He shouted. “First quiet your Dad is in a meeting and second language.” You warned him. “I don’t have to listen to you!” He shouted standing from his seat on the sofa. “Ko.” You warned again, frowning over your face. “Don’t call me that, you're just here to cook, clean and occupy Dad’s bed, you really think he loves you, with the way that Mum and him get alone you can’t think that’s true.” Kousuke laughed, he was now crowding you, there was no space to step away from him, you were about to talk but someone else did first. “Kousuke go and pack some things you're going to stay at your mother’s.” Kenma’s voice silenced his son, a sound similar to a growl emitted from the teen before he went up to his bedroom. “Did we ruin your meeting?” You asked. “That doesn’t matter.” Kenma said as he walked over, taking your face in his hands “I’m going to take him to his mother’s house and then we’re going to talk.” “‘Zume I’m fine.” You said. “Well there’s something that I want to say to you so wait for me okay?” He asked. “Alright.” You nodded, you walked into the kitchen putting Kousuke’s food into a container and walked out to the front door. “‘Zume!” You called and he looked back at you as you held out the container “I cooked his favorite as least Aiko won’t have to cook for him when he gets there.”

Kenma walked back over to the car and leaned in “your dinner.” He said the tone clipped as Kousuke took the container. “She still gave me this?” He asked and Kenma nodded as he started the car “I didn’t mean anything that I said.” “Doesn’t matter if you meant it, the damage is done.” Kenma mumbled as they pulled out of the drive. “You’ll stay with your mother for a couple of days and then we’ll talk about what happens next.” “What does that mean?” Kousuke asked. “I won’t come back?” “(Y/N)’ll never let that happen, she’s too good for that.” Kenma answered.

When Kenma got home, he found you cleaning in the kitchen, he walked up behind you and took the cloth out of your hand putting it to the side before guiding you into the living room before pulling you to sit on his lap. “You know it doesn’t matter what he says, I love you.” Kenma promised. “I know, I’m okay I promise.” You smiled but he could see that something was bothering you and if it wasn’t what he said then what was it? “What’s bothering you then?” He asked. “Does Kousuke not like me? I thought that we got on quite well in the beginning but if he doesn’t like me I can leave.” You said in a small voice, you didn’t want to leave, you loved living with him, you loved his son, you loved popping in to give him things during the stream but most importantly you loved having a family. “What? No. I’m not letting you leave.” Kenma frowned. “He told me that he didn’t mean anything that he said, I’m going to talk to him tomorrow about everything but tonight is your night.” “Mine?” You asked as you looked at him with a small smile on your face as you realized that everything should work out. “Mmhm.” He hummed, pressed a kiss to your cheek, smiling as excitement took over and you bounced on his lap leaning over to grab the control before turning yourself so that you could see the TV as Kenma changed to a more comfortable position waiting for you to pick what you do next.

-Tatsu asked you to go on a date with him so politely there was no way you could say anything but yes. he wanted your input on what you guys should do, and it was mutually decided that you would walk through the craft show the neighborhood was putting on

-Tatsu wanted to look cool, but not “yakuza inducing fear” cool, settling on a black jacket and some boots he got during a great sale. to some people walking by as he waited for you, he still looked a little intimidating, but you seemed to match perfectly with him, outfit not too sexy, not too modest, enough to make Tatsu swallow nervously when you approached

-all the nerves and butterflies faded away when you two began stopping by all the craft stands together, Tatsu geeking out over handcrafted bowls, crocheted bird coats and oven mitts of varying sizes and patterns. it was nice, being comfortable enough with you to be himself, his new self that appeared the more time he spent with you

-you had your eyes on a gold and red beaded bracelet, which Tatsu bargained for with the seller for several minutes. in return, you bought him an apron with a cute animated dragon printed on the front; maybe it wasn’t as scary as his other dragon apron, but Tatsu thought maybe that was a good thing

- “Toothless? Who’s that? Some cartoon dragon?”

- silent plans were made to watch How To Train Your Dragon with Tatsu. surely he would love it. second date idea???

-you two stayed close all afternoon, not rushing, not worrying. when people crowded in on you guys, or if some dude got too close, Tatsu would do his “scary face” which was very effective in creating some breathing space; a few times you thought he would at least put an arm around you to lead you away, but he was a true gentleman, and found ways to help you without touch

-when you got hungry Tatsu was quick to suggest his favorite cafe, owned by an “old friend.” even though there was a concerning amount of yakuza members inside, the food was delicious, and you caught Tatsu smiling behind his mug several times

-all in all, your first date with Tatsu went very well: you got a cute bracelet out of it, got to see Tatsu wearing a dragon apron in public, and thanks to the cafe owner, you even got to hear a few embarrassing stories about your date in his past life

- you were sad when the evening came to an end, suggesting that you two do this again soon, which Tatsu seemed pleasantly surprised at. there was definitely more he wanted to experience with you, and told you he looked forward to the next time craft fair

- “I hear there’s gonna be a huge sale on oven mitts! Are you in, Y/N?!”

-oh Tora...he was so nervous asking you, his favorite customer out that he almost passed out from relief when you said yes, anxiety quickly returning when he realized you still had to actually go on the date. how would he ever survive??

-Tora no longer lived a lavish yakuza lifestyle, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t take you someplace nice. he remembered everything you had ever told him while stopping by his crepe truck, like how you loved to dance: luckily, he knew a guy who owed him a favor 

-wanting to be mysterious and cool, Tora didn’t tell you exactly what you were doing, just told you to wear a “saucy” dress. he would later regret this suggestion, because DAMN if you didn’t look hot af compared to his greasy ass

- (he looked very sexy too, with his low cut shirt and shiny shoes, in your humble opinion)

-salsa dancing!!! you were so excited as you two walked up to the dance studio, at which point Tora began to panic again, because he remembered a tiny, probably important detail:

- “Shit...I’ve never danced in my life.”

-once Tora got over how close you two had to be, he tried really hard to keep up with your steps, loosening up a little when he saw how much fun you were having. you thought his blush was cute, though, so sometimes you would dip a little too close, trace over his arms a little too teasingly

-when the teacher commented on your dancing skills as a couple, Tora smirked with pride and pretended like he knew exactly what he was doing. then he almost fell on his ass and got humbled pretty quickly

-after a few hours of dancing, Tora expected you to be exhausted and want to go home right away, but accepted eagerly when you suggested drinks. you laughed and talked about your first salsa class as a couple, making the comment that you wanted to do it again sometime

-the prospect of ��next time’ kept Tora grinning for the rest of the evening. next time for sure, he wouldn’t be so nervous. probably. at the very least, he wouldn’t fall on his ass again (but maybe he would if it made you laugh)

-Masa was surprised that you would even say ‘yes’ to a first date, so he’s already considered this a win. now as for what he’s going to wear...well, he manages to find a white button up that isn’t totally wrinkled, and he asks Tatsu to iron some pants for him

-he had a bunch of ideas for your first date, like laser tag, Pokemon Go!, gaming, watching other people game, etc., which all sounded fun to you, but Tatsu suggested Masa take you to a movie showing at the nearby park

-he was late walking to your house, and you ran into him just as you were leaving. poor boy was already flustered at having overslept his evening nap, and seeing you all cute in your white dress almost made his brain combust. he was so flustered he could barely make conversation all the way to the park

-hoping it would give him something to do (talking usually got him in trouble), Masa bought you guys popcorn, slushies and two bags of candy, all of which was gone by the time you two made it to the front row

-Masa fought an old lady for a spot, but forgot to bring a blanket to sit on, so you ended up having to share a blanket with that same old lady. the og Godzilla was playing, full of action and drama, something you both geeked out to without shame

- “He’s like, so cool and stuff! Did you see when he went pshhhhh, and the water went pwahhhh?! That was awesome!”

-you guys (Masa) got shushed a lot

-Masa wondered if you were having as good a time as him, peeking over at you every few minutes to gauge your reaction. whenever you smiled or laughed, he would sneak a little closer on the blanket until your arms were touching; he wanted to coolly slide an arm around your shoulder, which the grouchy old lady incidentally caused by adjusting her position and nudging you right into Masa

-he was surprised at his success and did not move a muscle for the rest of the movie, even when his arm fell asleep. what was a numb arm compared to you leaning against him? (plus, he was used to having numb arms from all the weird positions he slept in)

-once the movie ended, you wanted to play Pokemon Go! on the walk home, a request Masa was more than happy to oblige--could dates get any better than this? he hoped you would say ‘yes’ next time he asked you out on a date (ofc you would)

- your first date ended with “Pikachu!!! How could you treat me like this?! Why?!” and “Hey Y/N? Could you spot me 100 yen so I can buy more pokeballs? I used all mine on that stupid Ninetails...”
