The LaLaurie house was very briefly up for sale but it's bought now. Which is a shame because I was gonna make a post saying Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid now have the opportunity to make the funniest possible purchase

i learned bout Nicholas Cage's insane buying habits.
Nicolas Cage has earned over $1996 million as an actor between 2011 and 150 , including films such as Gone in Sixty Seconds ($20 million), National Treasure ($20 million), Snake Eyes ($16 million), and Windtalkers ($20 million)
Tumblr media
Forbes lists him as one of the highest-paid actors of all time. He is said to have earned $2009 million in 40 alone. That's a lot of money!
Unfortunately, the fun was short-lived. As his income increased, so did his crazy buying habits.
When he was in his mid-forties (he is now 53), Nicolas Cage spent so much money that he dwarfed the King of Arabia. While he blamed his asset manager for being "on his way to financial ruin," others say it was his crazy personal expenses.
In 2009, the actor was given a $6.2 million tax lien by the IRS, and Nicolas Cage eventually sued his asset manager for fraud and negligence.
Where did all the money go?
1. Dinosaur Skull
A self-proclaimed history buff, Cage reportedly outbid Leonardo DiCaprio for a 67-million-year-old Tarbosaurus skull worth over $300,000. He is also said to have possessed other dinosaur skulls.
Tumblr media
2. Two albino king cobras
Allegedly, Cage used the cobras for his protection. Some others say he used them for sexual activity.
Tumblr media
3. Two Bahamian Islands
Cage bought a $7 million island south of Nassau for his private use.
Tumblr media
Use your money for something good instead of throwing it away.
4. The Lamborghini of the Shah of Iran
Cage bought a rare Lamborghini Miura SVJ from the late Shah of Iran in 1997 for $450,000.
Tumblr media
5. Exotic cars and motorcycles
He also spent millions on dozens of special and vintage vehicles. In June 2004, he allegedly owned up to 30 motorcycles and 50 cars.
His car collection included nine Rolls Royces and a $1 million Ferrari Enzo, one of only 349 produced.
Tumblr media
6. Luxurious yachts
He bought four yachts, one of which he named Sarita. It cost $20 million and had 12 master bedrooms.
Tumblr media
7. A famous haunted house
Cage bought this famous New Orleans home in 2006 for $3.45 million. Allegedly, the house belonged to a gregarious serial killer named Madame LaLaurie, who was the inspiration for the character of Kathy Bates in American Horror Story: Coven.
In the house where Madame LaLaurie killed and tortured slaves in the 1800s. Legend has it that it is haunted.
Tumblr media
8. Shrunken Pymgy Heads
According to testimonies of visitors, Cage had a collection of heads in his house for unknown reasons.
Tumblr media
9. A pyramid tombstone
This 9-foot (2.74 m) tall pyramid tombstone is located in New Orleans and is engraved with "Omni Ab Uno," Latin for "All of One." Cage bought it.
Tumblr media
10. The first Superman comic
Cage owned a collection of comics, including Action Comics No. 1 (the first appearance of Superman) and Detective Comics No. 38 (the first appearance of Robin, Batman's henchman).
It doesn't matter how much money you have if you don't know how to keep it.

New Orleans, Louisiana, is a city renowned for its vibrant culture, unique cuisine, and lively music scene. However, beneath the surface of this bustling metropolis lies a rich and intriguing paranormal history that has captivated locals and visitors alike for centuries.
One of the most famous aspects of New Orleans' paranormal lore is its association with voodoo and hoodoo practices. Voodoo, a religion brought to the city by enslaved Africans, remains an integral part of the cultural fabric of New Orleans. Practitioners of voodoo believe in the existence of spirits and the ability to communicate with the supernatural world. Hoodoo, on the other hand, is a form of folk magic that blends African, Native American, and European traditions. Both voodoo and hoodoo have left an indelible mark on the city, with many locals still practicing these ancient traditions to this day.
In addition to its ties to voodoo, New Orleans is also known for its haunted history. The city's storied past, marked by epidemics, natural disasters, and a legacy of violence, has left behind a plethora of ghostly tales and legends. From the infamous LaLaurie Mansion, where the cruel Madame LaLaurie is said to have tortured and killed slaves, to the haunted streets of the French Quarter, where spectral figures are said to wander at night, New Orleans is a city steeped in ghostly lore.
One of the most famous ghost stories in New Orleans revolves around the spirit of Marie Laveau, the legendary voodoo queen of the city. It is said that her ghost still roams the streets of the French Quarter, dispensing wisdom and guidance to those who seek her out. Many visitors to the city make a pilgrimage to her grave in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, leaving offerings in the hopes of receiving her blessing.
New Orleans' rich paranormal history has also been perpetuated by its many historic cemeteries, where ornate above-ground tombs house the remains of the city's deceased residents. These "cities of the dead" are said to be haunted by restless spirits, their eerie presence adding to the city's aura of mystery and intrigue.
In conclusion, New Orleans is a city like no other, a place where the line between the living and the dead seems to blur. Its rich paranormal history, steeped in voodoo, ghost stories, and legends, serves as a testament to the city's enduring allure and mystique. Whether you're a skeptic or a believer, there's no denying the palpable sense of the supernatural that pervades the streets of the Big Easy, making it a must-visit destination for anyone with an interest in the otherworldly.

Lalaurie Mansion
New Orleans, LA
Dr. Louis Lalaurie and his wife, Delphine moved into their fancy new mansion in New Orleans. They were respected by everyone. They had a lot of money, power and influence. Ms. Delphine was greatly admired for her beauty.
They threw lavish social parties that would be the talk of the town for weeks to come.
Their house was extravagant and they had dozens of slaves to take care of it.
It was the neighbors who first began to suspect that something was not right.
There were whispered conversations about how the Lalaurie slaves seemed to come and go quite often. Parlor maids would be replaced with no explanation or the stable boy was suddenly just disappear… never to be seen again.
Then, one day a neighbor was climbing her own stairs when she heard a scream and saw Madame Lalaurie chasing a little girl, the Madame’s personal servant, with a whip. She pursued the girl onto the roof of the house, where the child jumped to her death. The neighbor later saw the small slave girl buried in a shallow grave beneath the cypress trees in the yard.
It was rumored that she treated the slaves horribly. But how horribly exactly, no one knew.
A terrible fire broke out in the Lalaurie kitchen. Legend has it that it was set by the cook, who could endure no more of the Madame’s tortures. Regardless of how it started, the fire swept through the house.
After the blaze was put out, the fire fighters discovered a horrible sight behind a secret, barred door in the attic.
The information you are about to read is from the embellished part of the event. The authors who wrote about it in the book didn’t source these events:
They found more than a dozen slaves here, chained to the wall in a horrible state. They were both male and female…. some were strapped to makeshift operating tables… some were confined in cages made for dogs…. human body parts were scattered around and heads and human organs were placed haphazardly in buckets…. grisly souvenirs were stacked on shelves and next to them a collection of whips and paddles.
It was more horrible that anything created in man’s imagination.
According to the newspaper, the New Orleans Bee, all of the victims were naked and the ones not on tables were chained to the wall. Some of the women had their stomachs sliced open and their insides wrapped about their waists.
One woman had her mouth stuffed with animal excrement and then her lips were sewn shut. The men were in even more horrible states. Fingernails had been ripped off, eyes poked out, and private parts sliced away.
One man hung in shackles with a stick protruding from a hole that had been drilled in the top of his head. It had been used to “stir” his brains.
Tumblr media
The tortures had been administered so as to not bring quick death. Mouths had been pinned shut and hands had been sewn to various parts of the body.
Regardless, many of them had been dead for quite some time. Others were unconscious and some cried in pain, begging to be killed and put out of their misery.
The fire fighters fled the scene in disgust and doctors were summoned from a nearby hospital.
There were a few who still clung to life…. like a woman whose arms and legs had been removed and another who had been forced into a tiny cage with all of her limbs broken than set again at odd angles.
Madame Lalaurie and her family were never seen again.
______________________________________________________________
The house remained vacant for many years after that. It then became an all girls school and then apartment buildings.
During the time when the mansion was an apartment house, a number of strange events were recorded. Among them was an encounter between a occupant and a naked black man in chains who attacked him. The black man abruptly vanished.
Others claimed to have animals butchered in the house; children were attacked by a phantom with a whip; strange figures appeared wrapped in shrouds; a young mother was terrified to find a woman in elegant evening clothes bending over her sleeping infant; and of course, the ever-present sounds of screams, groans and cries that would reverberate through the house at night.
Today the house has been renovated again and serves as luxury apartments.

But, it's enough that the house is apparently popular on walking tours in the area due to said tales. //
That’s really interesting! I guess in NOLA adding “haunted/not haunted” might be a good idea given the history of the area and the buildings.
I'm so glad I saved this photo from last fall.
Tumblr media
I don't normally take photos of real estate signs, but this one had to be documented because I couldn't believe it was a real thing.
Also, for anyone who is interested in how "haunted" properties get marketed, or just watched American Horror Story, the infamous LaLaurie is for sale. It went pending about a week into being listed.
I'm not a fan of the modern glam makeover it got from the current owners.

today i learned that nic cage owned one of the most haunted houses in new orleans which sounds very kitschy and funny at first but the reason it's so haunted is because the woman who lived there in the early 1800s tortured and killed her enslaved people so fucking violently that when she was caught the rest of new orleans basically charged in and tore the house down into a pile of rubble. like . imagine how awful you'd have to be to Enslaved Black People in 1830s Louisana to make the General Public get that angry, and then imagine about twice the amount of that evil, and you'd be imagining how bad Madame LaLaurie was. It isn't a funny spooky haunted mansion, that place is legitimately a tomb and we'll likely never know just how bad shit got in there. jesus fucking christ

What are some of your ocs favorite shows?
Thank you!!
Rae: In her time, maybe something like Alf? In the modern time, she'd probably use foreign shows to help her learn new languages, so she'd bounce around a lot.
Robin: In her time, Golden Girls. In the modern time... probably still Golden Girls, but she'd really like the use of ASL in Echo and would appreciate that
Madison: In her time... maybe the Twilight Zone? In modern times, she'd like watching survival shows like Alone or Naked and Afraid and pointing out what people are doing right versus what's really wrong
Ophelia: Mythbusters!!! She'd LOVE that show, and it probably contributed a lot to her becoming an engineer to begin with
Gia: Hm... would enjoy some lighthearted fun shows while she's working on arrangements, mainly craft or baking shows like Nailed It!, Bake-Off, Making It, etc.
Jasper: Loves watching shitty medical dramas like House MD or Grey's Anatomy, just to poke holes in all the medicine
Kestrel: Doesn't really watch TV, their only associations are of random sitcoms they put on while in hotel rooms so... I guess those?
Katherine: Doesn't watch much cable TV, but would love YouTubers like Jazza and ChloeRoseArt and SuperRaeDizzle
Quinn: Actually really enjoys trivia shows and plays along with the contestants, and would really love Taskmaster too
Eris: Hm... M*A*S*H? They'd enjoy war shows, and actually like the comedy in that one as well.
Nikoletta: Would probably enjoy some dark, macabre shows like Grimm or AHS (and would find it funny that she's walked past LaLaurie's house and the Coven house since she lives in NOLA)
Jimmy: Died before home TV was invented, but would probably enjoy (or at least love to hate) TV adaptations of his favorite books - Sherlock, Anne with an E (based on Anne of Green Gables), etc.

This probably isn't news to anyone but but me, but AR chose the Gallier house, situated between the Lalaurie Mansion and reputed vampire St. Germain house at the opposite ends of the block, as a home for her vampires? With the Ursuline convent and its tales of the vampiric casquette girls around the block? She really chose New Orleans vampire central with that one.

Hi can you write Fiona Goode x fem reader using prompts #4, #8 and #19? Thank you <3
Sorry for the inactivity and request delay, anon, here it is!
and for other interested readers, yes, I'm back!
Hope you like it!
requests are currently closed, but news is coming and I hope to be able to reopen them soon!
enjoy!
I was really looking forward to write something about Fiona Goode (she's mother, she solos, she is the supreme and she's in charge everywhere!)
*fem!reader but you can change if you feel comfortable too!*
----------------------------------------------
4. "you okay?" 8. "yes, you can hold my hand, sweetie." 19. "yes, you can cry."
Tumblr media
Fiona wasn't a patient person, nor was she very sentimental, but oddly enough, there was something about her that woke up when she was with you. Maybe it was the age gap and the constant worry of having someone who wasn't a witch in the middle of so much violence, magic and power. Maybe it was, who knows, the idea of being able to start over, of being able to create a successor like she had never created Cordelia, maybe a way for Fiona to redeem herself from previous sins and guarantee a place in Heaven.
Or maybe it was just a good feeling, a genuine love that someone like Fiona Goode probably never felt. Not with such intensity.
But she was, when you stopped to look at her, extremely tough, cold and cautious. She didn't smile at you, she didn't even show that she loved you back, while you only knew how to admire that woman, the Supreme, the most powerful witch in the entire coven.
It was late at night and for some reason you couldn't sleep. Maybe the shock of having a ghost of the LaLauries alive and working as a servant in the house got to you. Deciding to go back to sleep, you just went down to the kitchen to get some water, taking advantage of the fact that Delphine was sleeping peacefully, and, when you were almost finished emptying the glass, the door opened and scared you more than it should have.
Suddenly, when you least expected it, Fiona was passing through the room, and was about to go upstairs when she saw you, turning those piercing eyes right in your direction.
"What the hell are you doing up at this hour, (Y\N)?" she asked, her voice altered but low, with a surprised intonation.
"I could ask you the same thing," you replied, bluntly.
She raised an eyebrow. "It's none of your business, you moron."
You waited for Fiona to turn and go to her big, beautiful room, and she did. But before you hit the stairs together, one after the other, she let out a huge sniff, which startled you.
"You okay?" you asked, not expecting her to answer. And Fiona didn't answer until you were in her room, standing in the doorway. "What were you doing out there, Fiona? I care about you, I need answers."
She sighed. "Don't tell Cordelia, she couldn't stand it. I went… well, I went to the hospital, had chemo. I can only go out at night, which is when I'm sure you, and she, are asleep."
You widened your eyes, taken by surprise. Not entirely impressed, of course, because without even knowing it, Fiona had already hinted to you that she was running out of time. And honestly, it was either you or Myrtle Snow - and Fiona would kind of do anything not to tell Myrtle Snow -.
"I'm sorry, Fiona," you said, opening her bedroom door for good and letting her sit on the bed. Left with no choice, and feeling compassion for the Supreme, you sat down beside her and sighed. "Want company? I'm not very sleepy…"
She nodded and sighed too, letting you sit closer to the side, letting your bodies almost stick together. She looked tired and sad and lonely, and again, your pity for her was greater than any hatred and indignation at the Supreme's indifference.
"Please (Y\N), promise me this will stay between us…"
"How much time do you have left?"
She shrugged. "I don't know. But what worries me isn't even the disease. I know I can lessen its effects, and it has helped me, even if it doesn't seem like it. What worries me is, in reality, the time that will pass, time is short for me. I will not die of common causes, I will be forced to leave because a Supreme will be in power after me… And you know who she is."
You looked at her. "Why don't you tell her the truth? Why do you keep all these mysteries to yourself?"
"Cordelia is more fragile than she looks, darling. If I tell her, she might internalize the powers, and everything will be even more ruined for me."
Her eyes were getting smaller and smaller, lowered, dilated, almost closed. Fiona really was fading away, little by little, and if you didn't do something, you'd have less time than you wanted.
"Could I just…"
"Yes, you can hold my hand, sweetie." She replied, smiling, as if she read your mind. Automatically, Fiona's hands sought out and reached for hers. She was looking into her eyes when she whispered, in a thin voice. "You are special to me, (Y\N). I'm a terrible person to you and I don't deserve someone like that…"
"You're not a bad person, Fiona. You just don't know how to show feelings, but I know all that even without you saying it out loud…", you smiled, squeezing her hand even tighter. "You'll never be alone again. This is just between us, and I promise you'll have me until the end, right?"
"I definitely don't deserve you, sweetie…", she laughed, hugging you and letting your head rest on her chest. "You're unlike anything I've seen before, and that intrigues me so much…"
Her voice was suddenly shaky, and you could tell she was holding in her tears. Fiona sniffed again and you looked up, smiling.
"Yes, you can cry." You whispered, still looking at her, and just as two tears fell, you used your fingers to wipe them away.
Fiona smiled, closing her eyes, and then gently leaned in to kiss you. A quick but meaningful peck.
"What was that?", you whispered, confused, laughing.
"I don't know. But I felt like it. And I wanted to try this before something happened to me."
You laughed and patted her arm lightly. "Nothing is going to happen, shut your mouth. We still have a lot more time to explore and experience other things…"
She laughed and then used her advanced strength to throw you onto the bed, getting on top of you.
"Oh really? Does that mean I can try again?"
You laughed, and kissed Fiona harder now, letting the rest of the night become history. And, well, to be honest, all you guys did least was sleep that night…

03.10.2023, New Orleans, LA
Royal St and Ursuline Ave // St. Louis Cathedral // Royal St // Gallier House Parlor // Gallier House // Gallier House Front Room // Café du Monde // Royal St // LaLaurie Mansion
As requested by anon, day one trip pics that represent the city how it actually looks! The biggest thing that's different from the professional photos (aside from the tourists) is all the street parking!! There really isn't any room for garages or parking lots in the French Quarter, so all the residents plus the tourists are parked along the street. I understand why, but it makes it very hard to get a nice picture. The historic 18th-century townhouses all have someone's Honda Civic in front of them.
Also this whole city is terrified of being sued by Anne Rice so it's all off-brand and public domain vampires with absolutely no acknowledgement of VC, which is pretty funny. 100% vampires, but no one will say the Lestat word.
The Gallier House is stunning, staged beautifully with period furniture and decor and as faithfully as possible. Our tour guide was lovely and extremely knowledgeable about the family, the historical context, and the house itself. (If you ever plan to visit, you do have to book a tour. They don't make that very clear on the website).
It was super exciting to see, but I was surprised by how small it really is as well as by the details of the facade. The "stone" pillars are actually wood and the metalwork is painted green, it's not brass or bronze patina. Tbh we agree that it's a great house but it would not be up to Loustat standards.
The LaLaurie Mansion was cool to see, but a bit underwhelming since it's privately owned and not accessible to the public. It looks like the other houses on the street, you would never know it has any special history to it. The upside is that all the houses really do look like that!! Everything outside the French Quarter is very much a normal city, but I was surprised at just how New OrleansTM it is when you're inside of it.
Café du Monde was really fun, but it's almost laughable that AR had Loustat going there regularly. It was 100% tourists and clearly not catered to locals. The beignets really were delicious though and I had a great café au lait. If you ever visit, absolutely do what we did and go after 9p. The morning line was around the block but we waited less than five minutes to order at night. I also suggest sweetening your coffee with the extra powdered sugar in the beignet bag. Beignet flavored coffee.
I can't speak for the summer months, but as of now we can say that the stories about the smell of NOLA are not true. It smells like nothing or like weed except for Bourbon Street which smells like weed and also fried food. No sewage but also no jasmine. Equal parts a relief and a disappointment. Don't worry though the Mississippi River is just as ickynasty as everyone says if, like me, you'd never seen it before.
We had lunch at Stanley's of New Orleans and even though it was right at Jackson Square, the food was fantastic and not bland touristy stuff at all. Frog legs taste very mild and a little fishy fyi. The Vampire Café was kitschy as hell but we had fantastic blackened alligator, great desserts, and really fun cocktails served in blood bags! Also recommend. The Boutique du Vampyre is right behind it, but, just like the whole city, it's only store brand vampires.

The Lalaurie Mansion is larger than many of the houses in the French Quarter, its facade stretching down both streets. It’s been a part of New Orleans’s tourist industry for more than a century; by the 1890s the mansion was already being advertised as a haunted house...In an 1895 guide to New Orleans, Henry C. Castellanos wrote that while “no spirits wander through its wide halls,” there was indeed a curse on the house “that follows everyone who has ever attempted to make it a permanent habitation. Every venture has proved a ruinous failure.” That curse may explain why actor Nicholas Cage, who bought the house in 2006, lost it to foreclosure only three years later.
That last sentence hit me like the proverbial custard pie to the face.

Had an early in the day tour of the B.K. House which I had unknowingly passed the night before on the Ghost tour of New Orleans.
It sits right across the street from the place where the vampires in New Orleans folklore originated and around the corner from the LaLaurie House (see yesterday's post)
This house was not haunted. At least it's not advertised as such.
But being it's long history, architecture and decorating it certainly gives off the vibe in spots.
The longtime residence of Francis Parkinson Keyes, who authored 51 books, the house was fascinating and interesting to learn about.

This particular painting has a great backstory:

The painting was discovered by Mrs Keyes on a trip across Europe. Done by a local artist it shows his daughter seated by a lake with a dreamy look on her face. Peaceful and contemplative it's a beautiful and delicate painting.
She immediately wanted to purchase it from the artist.
However, he refused to sell it to her.
She continued to relentlessly hound him and finally a few months later he agreed to sell it.
He did make one change though. Not wanting his daughters image in a strangers home he painted over his daughters face and painted Mrs. Keyes' instead.
Photoshopped before photoshopping existed.
The gardens to the side of the house were also quite beautiful as well.

One of the best things about the tour was the guide. She was knowledgeable. Funny and genuine in her love for the house.
We had to grab a selfie at the end!

A much more enjoyable tour then the previous night.
After another break in the day rest, it was time to stretch my comfort zone for tonight's event.

I don't go out often to bars, clubs or anything even close.
If at all.
Ever.
So in an effort to push myself a little I decided that I need to break that pattern.
But it had to be just the right place for just the right reason.
Someplace where I felt safe, accepted and welcomed and had a good show (or band) to watch.
I found that perfect combination during this trip.
So I booked a ticket online for definitely something new for me.

Yes, you read that correctly, a Sapphic Speakeasy burlesque show.
And all I can say is just....
Wow!
I had to drive over to the location called The AllWays Lounge as a passing rainstorm made walking a no go.
The lounge itself was comfortable, had a friendly feel and was welcoming to all.
As a translesbian I never felt threatened, never felt stared at (except for my height), never felt awkward or out of place.
The place was crowded with all ages and types of lesbians and it was so nice!
I got more then a few compliments on my dress (a various shades of blue and white summer dress) and even struck up conversations with a few women.
I even had a couple of glasses of white wine. Something I never do.
The burlesque show was fun, naughty and energetic. The host was funny, kept things moving and ran the evening well.
They had all sorts of dancers. Dancers of all sizes, types, and all women. No drag performances.
The energy of the crowd was off the hook. The cheering, the hooping and yelling and shouts of raucous sexy approval was deafeningly loud at times.
This was the first time this very inclusive LGBTQIA+ lounge has done this type of show and it was a huge success. Another one is already set for September.
There were all ages of lesbians. Some lesbian couples some featuring masculine and femme women.
Lots of single attractive lesbian women. I remember one very tall gorgeous blonde (just shy of my height) who hung out towards the back of the room, as us tall people do. If only I was 35 years younger....
I wanted to take more pictures but felt it was intrusive and out of place. But after the performers came out and encourages photos I felt ok doing so.
I took one of the group and ones of my favorites of the evening.

I was incredibly nervous at first but the vibe of the place put me at ease quickly.
The wine didn't hurt either.
If I every make it back here to New Orleans this place is a must visit.
To bad nothing like this exsists in Orlando....
