i’m finding it really hard to take more media discourse seriously right now because a lot of it tends to be hinder by emotional fragility. the “if something make me feel this type of way (namely the escapist, or the horny) it is inherently above criticism, and any attempts to critique (even if said critique is coming from a place of endearment) is an attack on my morality” stuff.
#esp when it relies on misogyny……..#like attempting to create a new category of fiction is fine#it happens all the time. but when people tell you that creating That Specific Subgenre is futile & a defanging of the baked-in nature of#The Genre and you hit back with ‘but it’s WOMEN’S fiction!!!’ that is just misogyny#and the original critique was not commentary on your moral politics#however#you’re reaction is now that you have made it such#anyway. i saw a thread on ‘cozy horror’ and i wanted to scream#you are just describing GOTHIC. you are describing DOMESTIC.#these are things that already exist. and attempting to craft something new (and fucking vague as hell) out of it#on the basis of it being ‘by women for women’ (as comforting fiction should inherently be. no terrible bitchy women here no sir! /s)#is fucking futile. and misogynistic.#and this is coming from someone who regularly enjoys romance novels#i UNDERSTAND the desire for soft and escapist fiction#however when people find the politics in them & the discourses surrounding lacking….you can’t get in your feels about it#a lot of this reminds me of the rwrb discourse. it’s the poster child for escapist fiction. it also has some of the most milquetoast#liberalized politics.#like in your escapist fiction palestine is still being violently colonized? AND your find that jokes about that are acceptable?#before cmq removed the line there were tons and tons of these ‘escapist fiction’ readers in their feelings about being told that their book#baby had piss poor politics. are you incapable of seeing flaws in your favorite pieces of fiction?#i’m positive i could pull this into the fandomization of media consumption + the idea of media as identity but it’s dinner time#and i’m hungry :)#anw. sorry the tag essay for anyone who got this far 💀#i have chronic can’t shut up disease#i would normally rant to my gf but she’s napping 🥺 and i don’t want to disturb her rn

Unpopular opinion but the reason being a teenager sucks is less to do with hormones and social cliques and more to do with the fact adults fucking hate teenagers. The fact that adults expect teenagers to be able to take on adult responsibilities yet don't deserve rights of an adult. They don't see teenagers as human beings and they aren't prepared to see kids with their own formed identities and humanity. Teenagers are so sexualized and seen as needing to take on more and more adult responsibilities. Yet when they want rights and humanity they are denied. The years your brain spends wanting nothing more than to form an identity are being taken away from you. Teenagers are essentially being kicked out of social spaces unless they have an extra 40 dollars lying around anytime they want to go out. Teenagers being kicked out of the mall just for existing or groomed into the school to prison pipeline. And now creating legislation to keep them off the Internet. Our society hates teenagers. And does everything we can to hurt them. The fact that anyone makes it out of their teenage years without trauma is a fucking miracle frankly.

being fat is hard because you don’t just run into inaccessibility that affects only you. for example, if i’m bigger than a car seat is built for, then i inconvenience those sitting next to me. if i’m bigger than a room is built for, i encroach on others space. it makes the fat person feel like it’s a personal fault, and skinny people are often not kind to fat folks who take up space. i want to make this clear: it is Not the fat persons fault AND i understand the strain and shame it can cause fat people. this world is built to exclude fat people. fitting of my favorite phrase inspired by the social model of disability; it’s not the fat persons fault, it’s the worlds fault.

Even if Minimum wage jobs were just for teenagers that wouldn't justify such low wages. Call me crazy but if a child can work like an adult and puts in the amount of effort and responsibility of an adult and is expected to work as intensely as an adult would. They should get paid like an adult actually. It's so weird how in this country children are expected to face the burdens of adulthood and be ok with having none of the rights of adulthood.

Democrats are feeding people xenophobia and civic nationalism on prime time tv as part of their presidential campaign.
Why is the USA's so-called progressive party allowed to do that. Why are these politicians being enabled, justified, and even encouraged if American liberals themselves are not fascists? Or at the very least, okay with fascist policy. (But I mean how are you okay with fascist policies and not a fascist anyway? There's already a modicum of denial going on there).
Democrats are calling Trump weak and vowing to be "tougher" (more abusive and discriminatory) towards immigrants & refugees crossing the border.
What makes liberals and Democrats so above critique that they're allowed to do worse than Trump and get applauded for it?
Are y'all really that easy to trick with some songs and buzzwords?

When a liberal says "Project 2025 will become reality if Trump wins", what they mean is "Liberals are incapable of putting up meaningful resistance to conservative politics".
If the other guy winning is enough to make every far-right policy proposal a reality, then what does that say about your side, hm? Because either the Democrats have the capacity to fight the Republicans in Congress and in the courts, or they don't. If they don't, we shouldn't be acting like they're our only hope to stop the Republicans and we should be looking to other alternatives. If they do, then Biden losing the election isn't enough for them to achieve every single pie in the sky policy goal they have set for themselves.
Biden's low poll numbers are the fault of him and his campaign. The refusal of the Democrats to even entertain the idea of nominating someone else shows exactly where their priorities lie. They are perfectly comfortable with Trump winning so long as it means they don't have to capitulate to the demands of their base.
