...So yes!!! I am working on a teensy weensy little rehashing of the Reverse Falls au. I'm sure as we all know, the original is a bit....outdated so to say. What with suspicious art and some questionable decisions here and there.

I'm not saying mine is better! No way no how, I'm absolutely sure there's a bunch of people out there with something better. This is just a little thing I'm working on with a friend of mine ( @danklemckspankle ) and how we would imagine a reverse falls au. Rather than it being low-key swapping personalities, it swaps roles as it should. And I'd like to think the premise is exciting as well! It makes me very very happy to talk about it as it's been plaguing my mind for a week or two. Tbh ever since book of bill came out....

So!! Lemme talk about it a little!!! I hope you're ready for a little mystery wink wink

Ahem. So! Our little story starts in a little shack called "The Shack of Telepathy"!! (So original yeah I know)

Bud Gleeful is the shack owner, living as a single father with his son Gideon Gleeful. Bud makes money by being a tourist trap, grabbing people in under the premise of reading their minds! (Gravity falls people are just easy to read but shhh don't tell Toby)

Gideon is a little 9 year old with a heart of gold and full of promise. It's a new summer in Gravity Falls and he has big plans! He wants to have the best adventure he can, and hopefully get a new badge on his vest!!

Yes, this little guy wants to be a boy scout!! Unfortunately, there is no chapter in Gravity Falls, so he's gonna have to make one himself!

With his dad's pin machine, he makes badges whenever he does something good or a big accomplishment! (His pride and joy badge is the one he made with his dad on Father's Day :] )

He really wants to have a good summer. He hopes, by golly, he hopes.

Now a neighborhood down, is town darling Pacifica Northwest. Her family isn't as rich in this as canon, so her family sits as upper middle class at most. Modern suburbia yk? Her family wants to set an example for the people of Gravity Falls, taming the weirdness out or whatever they say.

Pacifica just wants a summer where she can have a little relief. Away from the eye of her parents and the public. Just one day where she can be herself!

So she goes walking in town while her parents are busy planning their big weekly barbeque or whatever. She comes across this kid named Gideon. He compliments her sense of style and makes an offhanded comment about making a badge or something.

Now Pacifica, despite however much her parents influence her, starts her own trends and styles. (With the permission of her parents) So when this kid compliments her she goes on a (grateful) rant and they hit it off!

Gideon tells her about his dad's shack, and all the business business business Bud does. Pacifica talks about her parents planning events every week and, begrudgingly, church. They scurry off into the woods to just explore, and be kids!

On their way as Gideon is messing around with nature, they come across this metal tree. Weird, huh. They do some digging around and press buttons, when a crater opens in the ground!! Pacifica goes to check it out, pushing Gideon back in case of danger.

What they see is a journal! Very dusty and cobwebbed, but a journal with the number 3 painted on it. They pick it up and peruse through it. Pacifica is skeptical at first, wondering if it's part of any tourist trap Gideon's dad planned. When Gid says no, they realize the journal mayyyy have some merit. With how weird Gravity Falls is all the time and the little things that happen here and there, the author of this journal could be telling the truth.

So when they go back to the shack, the talk about the journal and what it could mean.

Now I haven't planned too far ahead to make a full writing of each episode, barely even the pilot, but! This is the gist of it in my head.

As you know, yes I mentioned Ford was evil! And I'm keeping a little of the previous reverse falls lore for this (surrounding the pines. Other things will be different!)

Maybe I'll make a post talking about the pines, but y'know. I just wanna talk about the general feeling I have for it in my head.

CANONICALLY THIS HAPPENS. THEY BUY HIM FROM HIS MOTHER AND HE HAS TO SHED HIS NAME. HE ONLY GOES BY HAWKS. OTHER HEROES IN MHA HAVE THEIR HERO NAME AND THEIR PERSONAL NAME BUT HE ONLY EVER IS CALLED HAWKS. and there's another girl who experiences something similar through the commission - which indicates that this case of literal child trafficking is part of a greater ring targeting at risk kids with promising quirks - and her name is lady nagant, and all we know about her is that she was taken in by the commission just like hawks and was sent on so many under the table assasination missions that she WENT CRAZY AND KILLED THE COMMISSION PRESIDENT AND IS NOW LOCKED UP FOR LIFE. and that is ALL we're given about what the commission's treatment towards these kids is like, that it was bad and oppressive enough to make what was once a bubbly, hopeful girl who wanted only to be a hero into a trained government assassin that snapped and killed her boss because of it. so naturally it's headcannoned by a lot of the fandom that hawks experienced similar treatment and has likely worked his own espionage/assassination missions, especially because his context in dabihawks as a ship is that he's canonically sent to infiltrate the villains as a spy, so it's clearly not something the commission are above him doing. it's INSANE.

I remember that my friends kept getting ambushed by the trio of animals just randomly going up to them and demanding affection, and I think the victims that suffered the most from this were: Akechi, Yusuke, Ann, and Ryuji.

Imagine being on working hours, investigating or doing something REALLY important, then you hear the sound of little paws just going your way and see a rabbit and a dog together along with a guy trying to reach them.. seems like there's something else to add to do “I'm sorry” list.. 🥰

New OC :3 Her name is Artemis and her decker (hacker) name is Timberwolf as the text says. She is from/lives in Mertalline, the same city Lei is from/ lives in. She has a very black/white/silver (+grey) /blue palette and her fave colour is that bright blue you see! Personality-wise she is supposed to be cheeky and somewhat flirtatious (to certain people), quite self-confident and self-assured. She uses a laser bow (?) in battle and has a loyal battle hound (robotic wolf) with her which she has named "Orion". She really likes dogs (and wolves) because of how loyal they are :)

She likes to joke around and have as much fun as possible since life otherwise would suck! She has an older sister named Athena who is a runner (codename = Coyote), who is Artemis' first "hero". Artemis has a bit of a hero complex, believing in justice (or wanting to) and perhaps she wouldn't mind being someone's hero as well :3 She looked up to a decker named Tiger who was around the same age as her but unfortunately to her knowledge, Tiger was KIA around 8 years ago...

So yeah I'll be playing her in the next Mertalline campaign which may be a while from now.... (there are other cyberpunk COC campaigns lined up + my group has a DND campaign next) but I've been thinking about her for a while already ever since I learned I can play beastmaster in cyberpunk by playing a decker with bots. So here she is, my cyberpunk beastmaster XD I really like her design a lot -- I think she's super pretty 🥺🥺🥺

I have obtained permission from the DM that Lei and Vail's kids (those designs I made) can be canon if they live in the next Mertalline campaign which is probably the one I'll play her in. If she kinda resembles Nova it's cuz yes she is supposed to be "cyberpunk Nova" which means she shares similar features as Nova but I inverted some things! After all, fantasy and cyberpunk feel like polar opposites XD. The main design features is hair/eye colour -- Nova has white, Artemis has black. Nova's eyes are golden so Artemis has icy silver eyes :3 Also I totally stole Nova's Arknights outfit to kinda reuse partially for her XD work smart not hard~ They're also wolf girls in a way cuz I love wolves too much to give those up and of course the whole beastmaster aspect is a thing -- both of them having male wolf companions. They also both wield bows because I love archers. I just love them.

Another non important is that I want her to be charming and persuasive (and invest in those skills) because my former best boi (he's #2 now guess who took his place XD) Flash has been revealed to be a little suspicious. I want to know more about him and romance him using Artemis XD But it might not be possible if Flash is a corpo mole or someone more powerful/sinister 😔 I SURE CAN TRY THOUGH - THIS IS WHAT MY DM SAID TOO!

He's also long time frenemy of London, and they didn't plan on dorming together but alas fate brought them together so he could annoy the hell out of London. Serra is also the first character I made for this story and his design is so inconsistent I keep wanting to give him scars or an eyepatch but forget other times and it's just a mess (love him though). I'm not sure if I'll ever make London x Serra canon but lord do I Think About Them

People from the Other World have tales and warnings about what happens to people who delve too deep into like the physics of magic rather than the philosophy of magic like everyone else and how they all go INSANE and DIE and daphne looks at them and goes "we really know nothing about magic despite it being so prevalent in our lives and also wdym by insane guys its [other world equivalent of 2023] u should know better" The type of person to pick up roadkill so she can study its anatomy then lay it to rest respectfully and then get lost in thought about the role it plays in the ecosystem even in death (if only there were cars in the Other World like on earth)

Pippa Jane Owen | Human | Dandelion | By huge coincidence, she went to school with Heather and Claire. She received the book the two used for the enrollment ritual firsthand from a Mysterious Source, and decided to leave it for someone else to find because she thought someone else would like to also learn magic. Very sweet, love her dearly, terrifyingly adept at using magic in extremely creative ways for a human.

Nova Éliane Jones | Human | Blue Sun | The last third of the Celestial trio. Totally unfazed by her near instant popularity upon entering the college when everyone found out her symbol and was excited to see if the rest of the prophetic trio would arrive too for the first time in centuries. Not as good as Pippa in terms of sheer creativity and fluidity in magic, but she's very determined when it comes to perfecting magic one spell at a time.

Halia Ka Hiwa Kapule | Human | Crimson Hibiscus | Similar popularity to Pippa and Nova by association, but a lot more reserved. While Pippa learns by exploring magic by herself and Nova is by the books, Halia is competitive with herself and an observer, taking note of what does and doesn't work for others and how it can apply to herself, so people only see her get things right on the "first try." Very distinguished, love me a turtleneck under a fitted jacket

Dragonfly Saccharum "Sock" Elm | Elf | Pink Feather | Local prankster prone to messing with underclassmen with tall tales about the horrible/amazing things they've seen and done with magic, since most people of the Other World never learn symbolic magic outside of college. Acts like a cool older sibling to the Weird Freshmen offering advice that is rarely useful. Everyone calls them Sock.

Divya Deshmukh | Human | Gold Hourglass | One of the few humans born in the Other World. Best Friend to Sock, except a lot less chaotic than Sock and way more studious. I'm lying Sock is a saint next to Divya don't trust their cool exterior they are SO elaborate in their revenge and pranks, not to mention how they figured out how to use their magic in really subtle and almost unnoticeable ways by breaking down their hourglass symbol into multiple parts of the glass and sand separately. Great person to get on their good side though, always excited to talk about a cool trick they learned with their magic and how it could be translated to other symbols, but damn if they aren't SINISTER and OFFPUTTING once you figure out their small movements that tell you when they're lying or secretly using magic

THE AEGISLASH ARC IS SO HILARIOUS like out of context it’s just like “did mira forget what story she’s writing” but when you know what’s happening it’s so so funny especially the way nagi and reader decide to approach it 😭 “oh i GUESS we have to get married for uhhh the plot” “yeah i mean if i HAVE TO i’ll risk my life for you uhhh i mean the plot yeah the plot” (<- two idiots who will one day be madly in love) DNDKLSJDS nagi def wakes up afterwards like “damn dream me is so rizzful good thing i don’t act like that irl because i don’t even like anyone like that especially not y/n 😰” (not that they were really flirty or anything it was more of a “i’ll die for you if that’s what it takes and if it means you live and get to go home then i’ll even do it happily) and then he sees aegislash and is met with the horrifying knowledge that he did in fact try to rizz reader up and furthermore he might actually like her 😩 HAHAA the karasu beef is so funny too because when they’ve first been “isekai’d” reader’s like “yeah ok let’s just follow the plot of the world and get married or wtvr” and nagi’s like “what about karasu 😱” and reader’s like “uh idk what about him” and nagi’s like “aren’t you guys dating won’t he be mad 🤔🫣” which prompts reader to be like that one tik tok sound that’s like “EWWW no he’s like my BROTHER he’s so UGLY this filthy disgusting creature why was he even BORN” (i hope yk what i’m referring to HAHA)

HAHA to be honest swanna isn’t rlly a great pokémon competitively plus hiori has 0 interest in battling so i can rlly see him taming swanna just by being like “oh ya idrc if you don’t fight” and ducklett/swanna is like “oh fr okay” and decides to just be chill with him (imagine it tweaks when it sees karasu though he’d be SO offended)

swanna and barou #bestiesfortheresties 😜🤩 LMAOAO agreed some pokémon logic is kinda crazy but oh well!! and agreed it’s fun to give the pokémon personalities too!! within reader’s team we have houndoom who’s super loyal and cuddly but also strict w the other pokémon, galvantula who’s really sassy + has a napoleon complex + is besties with houndoom, dragalge who’s mostly rlly shy and keeps to itself but seems to like otoya’s greninja, aegislash who goes from supervillain to mild prankster after getting the beating of its life from houndoom (there’s no beef there but aegislash def has a healthy respect for houndoom and sticks close to gyarados after that), and gyarados who is CONVINCED that it’s still a baby magikarp that should be carried around by reader even though it’s ENORMOUS now (kinda like those huge dogs that try to cram themselves into your lap)

okay because hear me out…baby reader + barou find a really pretty rock when they’re playing so they break it in half to keep as like mementos of each other when they’re apart?? but it turns out to be houndoomite…and in the final battle both reader’s houndoom mega evolved so it kills its iwn brother as well as barou while wearing the proof of reader and barou’s love for each other…the way reader’s love for barou gives her the mental strength to command houndoom to destroy his body (out of respect to him/accepting he’ll never come back) and it also gives houndoom the physical strength to overpower its own brother and put an end to things no matter how hard it is…just thinking yk…haha…😭😭😭😭

LMAAOOA the galvantula downplay always goes crazy especially because a tried and true reader combo is sending out gyarados to use rain dance (100% accuracy for electric moves) and then she returns it so naturally her opponent is like what pokémon could she possibly have that’s scarier than a gyarados but then she sends out galvantula HAHAHA the opponent cracks up but they’re not laughing so hard when galvantula absolutely annihilates them w a combo of sure-hit electric moves and sneaky bug attacks 🤩

according to the wiki it’s cavasoz so that’s what i’m going with…anyways i THINK i have the teams down!! and i managed to avoid repeating any pokémon (more difficult than you’d expect) although if you see any repeats lmk so i can change it!! anyways in this au i’m going w the theory that the gym leaders have diff teams that they use depending on how many badges the challenger has (tbh this might be canon from pokémon generations or smth idk it’s miraverse canon) which is why some of the gym leaders seem noticeably weaker!!

i am emotionally attached to him and want to give him a big hug

the fucking way his character develops from licky man to best dad material is my favorite thing

his outfit is so so so good i would die to wear it

in general this man is one of my fave jojos characters and i get a lot of comfort from him

hes just really neat and has a good taste in music

he did his fucking best and i will always love him for that

imo the way that his death was drawn out was genuinely one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the entire series and fucks me up each time i think of it

i feel like he really is the one to hold the team together in a way that everyone feels cared for and saved

the light novel purple haze feedback is so so so good and adds sm to his character and i really like it for that!

fugo is one of those that imo deserves a lot and didnt get that

genuinely the vibes between how he treats narancia is v interesting to me, like its clear he cares about nara but nara not doing great w math really frustrates him

i love their interactions and how he is genuinely a kind person at times

hes goofy but not goofy enough for me to be ok with the repeated jokes about that esp in the body swap episode (ik it was supposed to be funny but it just felt off)

his vibes r good but i wish we got to see his hair

the fandom interpretation is normally pretty good of him overall?

despite not loving him a lot, i really enjoying writing for him (one day might open up headcanon requests or smth but unsure)

hes someone id wanna watch movies w but his taste in movies and mine r very different

Sorry for the delay on this! I started it then saved it in my drafts and proceeded to forget that drafts were a thing OTL.

Anyway, I'm going to go for the Detective Conan DC because my knowledge of the other DC is... lacking.

The first character I first fell in love with: Haibara. Her character arc is still my favourite even now. She was very much traumatised in a number of ways and that wasn’t much shied away from. Like, she’s actively terrified of Gin and Vermouth and when we first met her she’d just lost her sister. But despite that, she still managed to open up over time. And it wasn’t a linear path because she still freaks whenever someone from the BO is present (and I know the entire BO sense is kinda weird in terms of how much of it is like a magic realism thing vs her panic response but there’s some of both of it in there). But she is happier after her development and her friendship with Ayumi is precious honestly. The case about being able to call her by her first name was legit sweet.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Akai, I think. He was pretty clever without getting nerfed for it and saw through the Conan shtick, same as with Yamato and Koumei (who are both also charas I like). But then, I was just incredibly amused by his Okiya act. I have no idea how much of it was intentional trolling but turning up with curry to incredibly non-subtly check up on Haibara cracked me up. And obviously alongside that you have how he was freaking Haibara out and it just led to a lot of scenes with tension between them where Akai wasn’t communicating his reasons (because he got her sister killed. yikes.) and Haibara had enough pieces to have an idea but not enough to complete the puzzle as to Akai being a “good guy”, so to say. It was fun, I think. Even if the setup of characters not communicating definitely started to become frustrating after a while. But anyway, Akai has the range. He has the clever dangerous side and the “wdym, I’m just here for curry” memeability.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: This isn’t an “everyone” thing exactly but I’m not sure there is any one character who is universally liked by the entire fandom. Anyway, I find Conan frustrating nowadays. I think he was decent up past Desperate Revival (maybe even Vermouth reveal?) but after that stagnated big time. The main issue is that DC is a long runner and so at some point character development has to be put on hold. It’s more obvious with Conan because we literally see him every case as opposed to the other characters who have fewer appearances. But I think to narrow it down further, the problem is how Conan is not allowed to make mistakes that are punished by the narrative (aside from perhaps when it’s time to show off Yuusaku). Say for instance, he can actively refuse an information exchange with Akai because he doesn’t want to confirm his identity despite the fact that Akai already knows who he is. And this is treated as though it’s fine and logical even though it really isn’t? I don’t mind character flaws. If anything, I want characters to have flaws. But when the manga continues to twist the narrative around to try and pretend like character flaws aren’t flaws, it really puts me off that character.

The character I love that everyone else hates: This is more a case of the potential than that I actually think she's super well done, but early era Sera was actually pretty good? I find the later choices (especially once Mary is introduced) to be too inconsistent with her previous characterisation and strongly dislike how her intelligence gets retrospectively nerfed by the revelation that Mary was helping her out all along. But Sera in her first few cases and especially in the case with bomb at the detective agency? She was being the most realistic person there and it was really refreshing. (I feel like talking more about this could go off topic but basically I get that Ran is supposed to be the kinda pure more idealistic style morality because that’s what Aoyama is gunning for with her chara and that’s what Vermouth likes about her and Shinichi, but what Ran did with blocking the snipers’ views there was actively dangerous. It would have been safer for everyone else if they’d just gone with Sera’s plan and let the sniper take out the bomber)

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Gin was a pretty intimidating and challenging antagonist all the way up until maybe around Clash? I just feel though that he’s become less and less of a serious antagonist the more spies get revealed within the BO? Peak Gin was Dark Footprints though imo and since then, well. Nowadays, I really struggle to see the hype around him.

The character I would totally smooch: Uh... none, sorry.

The character I’d want to be like: I was so stuck on this question but I’ve settled on an answer now. I’d go for Haibara because even though her science knowledge keeps getting nerfed (ngl, so salty she didn’t know basic physics in the Maria case) she does have that biochem background. And even though she’s quiet and not actively trying to fit in she still manages to gain friends willing to put in the effort for her. It’s sweet and I’d like that.

The character I’d slap: Shuukichi. This guy. He decides without consulting her that he will ghost his girlfriend so he can win a shogi title “for her” which will somehow prove that he’s worthy of marrying her (????). He hasn’t even told her he plays shogi professionally before he does this. What. Maybe I’m just someone who would appreciate communication in relationships of any flavour but I don’t think I’d ever want to marry someone who breaks up with me out of the blue to ghost me for years only to reappear and say he wants to marry me because he’s won some competition I don’t even care about. And Yumi doesn’t care about shogi or she would have known years ago he plays professionally, especially considering it’s aired on TV.

A pairing that I love: TakaSatou. In a series where most of the relationships start with some kind of childhood connection, TakaSatou is definitely refreshing for entirely bypassing that and gunning for a more mature relationship overall. That said, there are a couple of their stories that rely way too much on second hand embarrassment for me to rewatch.

A pairing that I despise: Okay, I'll just go for the worst offender here with Shuukichi/Yumi. See my answer on why I would slap Shuukichi for reference and also the fact that I’m about 95% sure Aoyama is going to make it canon despite this. I wouldn’t mind half as much if the manga actually critically examined why Shuukichi pulled his ghosting stunt, but it’s just brushed over as a big romantic gesture. So yeah. I’m out.

And then there was Maki Harukawa. Rec Note: This one is canon-compliant but somehow still manages to be fluffy as hell, and one that I love coming back to when I need a smile.

last request by cosmicpoet Words: 1.5k Summary:  Kaito's last request is to be able to hold Maki one last time. They sit on the trial ground, and he wishes that he could stop her heartbreak from shattering the world. Rec Note: This one is for all of you who hate happiness and being happy. Rec Note: This one is tagged unrequited but do not fear there is no angst here, only tooth rottingly sweet fluff.

all the ways i could love you by WritingFantasy Words: 34.8k (holy shit right? and this is a one-shot too) Summary: moments between them that say it all. Love tropes shared between two best friends over time. Rec Note: My favourite Kaimaki fic of all time, it’s an emotional rollercoaster and an absolute must-read for any Kaimaki fan. I’ve gone back and read this like 7 seperate times because it’s just so well written and makes me feel so many things. There’s a mildly nsfw scene in there but that’s just Miu being Miu.

Sunrise by SHSL_KomahinaFan Words: 1k Summary: Maki enjoys a morning sunrise with Momota. They think about escaping the killing games. Rec Note: angst angst angst angst angst how does one person fit this much angst into just 1k words? very sad but a very good read. Brief mention/consideration(?) of suicide if that triggers you.

happy ending by tokkias Words: 990 Summary: on a sleepless night, maki takes the time to reflect on her happy ending. Rec Note: This one is just shameless self promotion. This is the first Kaimaki fic I ever wrote and it’s one of two that I don’t have posted on tumblr. Just a little sweet thing with an ending that made me smile.

well that’s one way to spend christmas eve by cosmicpoet Words: 1.3k Summary: Meeting the potential love of your life on Christmas Eve, in the middle of the emergency room, when fake dating gets a little out of hand, is not exactly how Maki Harukawa expected to spend Christmas. But all her plans for a quiet Christmas go out of the window when Kaito whirlwinds into her life. Rec Note: Wdym this isn’t a seasonally appropriate reccomendation? Despite the name, this fic can be enjoyed any time of year. Fake dating au’s are probably in my top 3 favourite tropes and this is the only Kaimaki one that I’ve seen so far, and it’s short but I do very much enjoy it.
