“Wow, even worse than that laser?” Violet calls. He ducks the spatula chucked at his head. “That’s okay, bro,” Maroon says, clapping his brother on the back. “You’re always a champion to us.”

Navy, even after all these years, tears up at that very specific reassurance. “You are the actual worst,” he sniffles, because Maroon absolutely knows what he’s doing. The smirk confirms it. “You’ve got probably half an hour before the kids wake up and bully you back into your grave,” Coral warns, appearing from actual thin air. Navy groans, already dreading the sheer amount of mockery that’s about to come his way. He was hoping to distract them with-

Oh. Oh, yeah. Whoops. (Now that he’s actually out of the apocalypse and can actually live a normal ish life, he should probably look into actually getting that ADHD diagnosis)

“When they see what I brought back from the tournament, they’ll be a little too distracted to harass me.”

Navy turns back to the doorway, realizes his new friend (kid) friend is nowhere in sight, and sighs. “Pspspspspspspsp,” he calls into the sewer tunnels. “I’m not a cat,” a cloaked figure says. It’d sound impassive and empty to most, but Navy’s been around enough miserably depressed and just all around wrecked people (himself included) to detect the slight petulance in his tone. “Of course you aren’t,” he responds unconvincingly. Then he turns to his brothers. “Come meet Ghost!”

“Oh, is that the-“

Navy flares frantically at Maroon, who does not shut up like he should. “-depressed mur-“

Navy, through sheer force of Will and mortification, manages to activate his flaky ninpo enough to portal Maroon directly into Draxum’s apartment. “Anyways,” he says hurriedly before either one of his remaining brothers can cruelly embarrass him by exposing what was supposed to be a private joke between confidants about his first impression of the guy. “That’s Violet, that’s Coral, and the other guy is Maroon. Don’t worry, he’s fine. I sent him to Mikey’s grouchy second dad’s place.”

Ghost does not vibe well with portals. Navy probably should’ve remembered that before abruptly dropping his brother through one. “You should totally bring your kids around next time!”

“Great, like I don’t have enough migraines,” Casey grunts, shuffling over to the fridge to rifle through it. “When did you get here?” Navy asks, both perturbed and proud. Ghost looks a tad more of the former than the latter. Casey shrugs and waltzes away with his Go-gurt. “If yours are anything like mine, the Donnies are going to kill each other and the Leos are going to drive everyone else to kill them,” Ghost huffs. “Consider: free responsible babysitting. The kids go blow up stuff or whatever and you can take a long, hot bath and sleep for a full eight hours. Consecutive, even.”

“Okay, fine. Couple weeks from now?”

“…. I was actually kinda hoping in the next thirty minutes before my kids wake up and start brutally mocking me.”

Ghost sighs. “I’ll go get them.”

Skeleton and S/O visits an aquarium!

Undertale Sans - It's taking forever because Sans wants to read all the fishes descriptions. By the end of the day, you're dragging a living fish encyclopedia towards the exit because you know he wants to go back to see everything again. Sans loves learning too much actually.

Undertale Papyrus - He's hypnotized by the medusas at the entrance. It's like super satisfying to see and it broke his ADHD brain. You are desperatly trying to make him snap out of it.

Underswap Sans - Why. Why did you take Blue with you? As soon as he sees the "Don't touch the water, sharks", he tells you that no sign will stop him and he jumps in the pool. You facepalm. Skeletons can't float. Blue is at the bottom of the aquarium, holding his breath, while panicked rescuers are trying to save him. After that, you are banned for life of the aquarium. Great job.

Underswap Papyrus - He loves it! He wants to see everything, and he's drawing the prettiest fish in his drawing notebook. He's having a lot of fun, and he even got to touch turtles so he's ecstatic. Also, he wants turtles now. Good luck with that.

Underfell Sans - He's a bit claustrophobic and you can see him jump everytime a shark passes above your head in the tunnel. He's clearly not a big fan, but he's doing it for you. However, how soon as you're outside, you can see him discretly sigh in relief. He's not doing it again though.

Underfell Papyrus - So, there was a feeding activity with the alligators and Edge got picked up. He was happy to do something stupidly dangerous, as you're watching behind the glass... and maybe got a little too much carried away when he suddenly screams to scare the alligator and asserts dominance. That... That didn't work and now Edge is running in circle, screaming, chased by the alligators and the alligators keeper who's trying to save his life. You're encouraging him to run faster but you also secretly wants to see what will happen if the alligator catches him. What's wrong with you?

Horrortale Sans - Well all the animals are attracted towards him like magnets so you can see all the fishes you want! The other visitors are not that happy about this though and keep assaulting Oak because he is obviously doing something to the fishes, which is starting to make him defensive. However, you're here to calm him down and seeing you having a great time, he decides he doesn't care and keeps enjoying the nice fishes with you.

Horrortale Papyrus - He starts to have a few visible bruises on his skull as the tunnel is way too small for him and he keeps hitting the ceiling. He's a bit cranky after that, but he still have a lot of fun. He loves animals, so you know it would be a great hang out!

Swapfell Sans - You told him a big ugly fish with a large nose looked like him and now he is pouting and won't talk to you. You won't stop teasing him after that.

Swapfell Papyrus - He's that guy who's imitating the animals he sees and this is so, so embarrassing, especially when he decided to have a conversation with the penguins. It was so cringe you kept going without him. Please someone saves you.

Fellswap Gold Sans - He's not impressed and will criticize every single fish you're seeing, even the big sharks. You tell him he's just jealous because you give them more attention than to him. He gasps, offended, and keeps going without you. Oh boy, you didn't know you were this right.

Fellswap Gold Papyrus - He slams his head in the glass like it's helping him to see the fish better. That's an original way to do it. Also, you ask him to stop doing it after he knocks himself out in the shark tunnel.

I loved reading the Magnoliaverse and especially playing with matches, and one thing that I ended up very curious about was more about Michael's backstory in this au? He's one of the characters who shows up a lot and has a lot of backstory vaguely referenced but never gets a perspective to explore that so I was wondering if you'd be down to share what ideas you had for his backstory while you were writing. Thanks in advance!

it's actually kind of funny that you ask this... playing with matches has always been the heart of magnolia verse to me, and future installments were/are going to focus on the characters in that fic (particularly agnes, oliver, julia and gerry, with some others). most of them have pretty detailed backstories in my mind but michael was one of the ones whose history i've actually thought less about!

i did have a few things in mind - michael had one particularly shitty relationship when he was ~16/17 that he still carries a lot of baggage from. he had crushes before that but never anything he was brave enough to act on, so it was pretty formative for him wrt his expectations for relationships. he was basically being strung along and used by a guy who didn't have strong romantic feelings for michael the way michael did for him. michael also didn't have a lot of friends growing up, or at least not since childhood, so he really wants to be loved (in any capacity, but he's particularly insecure about the romantic). going back and forth with his divorced parents didn't help with this - he stays with his mom most of the time and had to move when he was ~13-14, uprooting most of his life to a different school where he knew no one, and he never really settled in and found friends there. he's also pretty socially anxious and until meeting gerry, hasn't quite figured out how to get out into the world. he's a homebody mostly because he doesn't know how to be anything else (yet), and though he has art school friends, they aren't very close. too much of his impressions of queerness and college life were formed by the internet/popular media and he has a bit of an inferiority complex about it - he's very aware that he doesn't Do Much aside from art and feels like a loser because of it. (this is an unfortunate combo with his body image issues, insecurities about what he can offer in a relationship, and him being very much starstruck by gerry's band, leading to some of the conflict you see in playing with matches). some other random details: he's out to his parents but has a slightly strained relationship with both of them (he's closer with his grandma on his mom's side!), he has severe adhd but i don't think he knows it yet, he's been drawing for basically his whole life but recently focusing on art forms that involve more physical processes because it's good for his mental health (atm it's various forms of sculpture).

but honestly i've thought a lot more about michael's future than his past! at this point i've been telling people for years that magnolia verse is still in progress and feeling more and more guilty when a completed work fails to materialize, but i still can't stand the thought of leaving it as-is and have to believe in my ability to finish one more fic, so... there Will be one more... but probably not anytime soon and it probably won't be gerrymichael centric. so i'll just tell you about the gerrymichael fic i DID have planned lmao.

so: ex altiora goes viral and gets very popular very quickly when they finish school and release a full album. the speed of it is great for their careers and bad for their mental health. agnes and gerry really struggle with it. gerry in particular starts getting a lot of fans which makes him REALLY nervous because he's going stealth, trying to hide from his mom, and just generally not super interested in being a public sex object! this is a little bit Weird for his relationship with michael. he gets pretty (reasonably) paranoid and wants to keep his personal life very private, but michael Does Not Get It and is hurt because he feels like he's being kept a secret. he's also a little bit jealous of the attention, though he won't admit it, and is overall experiencing new depths of insecurity that he will (eventually) Finally get to process because he still thinks of gerry as the Cool One with all the power in the relationship. meanwhile gerry is so anxious and trying to cope with the spotlight of sudden internet fame/irl fame in certain contexts (i.e. shows) and feels like he can't confide in michael about it. the tension in his and julia's friendship is also reaching a breaking point around then and they have a huge fight which leads to them (gasp) speaking honestly about thoughts and feelings they've had for years! but anyway. everything gets sorted out in the end, and michael and gerry end up much happier! michael resolves his issues, gerry comes out to the world, they work out boundaries together, everyone becomes closer :)

also as much as he's a representation of me he's kinda his own character too lol (like im not so sure im bi at all but i've decided mack is to a degree. but the way he plays matches is exactly what i do)

some extra fun facts i couldnt fit in the ref:

total sailor mouth. says fuck almost every other sentence

can get SUPER pissed during matches. sounds like a dad yelling at a football match on tv, worse combined with his sailor mouth. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING JUST STANDING AROUND" "CLAIM THE FUCKING ZONE" "HOLY SHIT LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE I WAS OUT OF INK" "THATS RIGHT BITCH THATS WHAT YOU FUCKING GET FOR CROSSING ME"

stingers HATE HIM! is the first target of stingers like 90% of the time. absolutely despises them for this reason. will angrily rush over to annihilate a stinger that targets him as soon as he is able. very likely to get splatted in the process. (NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE WITH SALMON RUN AUUUUUUGH)

has a personal grudge against any dapple dualies players he encounters. for literally no reason. he just has an urge to prove that he's better than them as a dark tetra dualies player (also very much real)

rarely has a successful use of reefslider. usually gets splatted immediately after either activation or when it explodes. wishes it had invincibility like kraken. refuses to main anything other than dark tetras because he's stubborn as fuck (just take a guess whether this is real (spoiler: it is))

literally so silly and goofy about everything. tends to lean into annoying. im tellin ya it's the adhd

A list of my au Splinters

I decided to make a list of how many different versions of this guy I’ve made (currently. I know what my brains like, there’ll probably be another one by the end of this year). bloody hell there’s 7 of these assholes

1) Ageswap Yoshi

This kid has been around the longest. Needs a nap, a hug and therapy. He’d love it if things could be calm for 15 minutes, but he also knows he’d spent the entire time worrying about what else was about to happen. Loves his family but his relationship with them is complicated

2) Dead Doesn’t Mean Gone Splinter

Touch starved as all hell after 12 years alone. May have the worst childhood out of all my Splinters, but is trying very hard to not let that impact his family. Loves his family with everything he’s got and does his best to be a good dad - he asks Mr Silver and Kirby for parenting advice when he’s not sure. Misses his brother.  Is an absolute dork and him loosing his memories due to REDACTED is not helped by his undiagonsed ADHD or autism. Is just after Ageswap Yoshi in terms of being comfortable doing rat stuff

3) Stolen child Splinter

Hey wouldn’t it be funny if we swapped around who was Oroku Keiji’s son? Wouldn’t it be fun if the day Splinter finds out he was kidnapped as a child his kidnapper/adopted father dies, he gets blamed for it, and flees to NYC with his wife, then within a month looses his humanity? And now they’ve got 4 sons to raise and aliens are hunting them too? (Okay, him and DDMG splinter are tied for worst childhood)

4) Lost boys Splinter

An au of The Stolen Child, where him and Saki are both Oroku Keiji’s sons on the run from the Hamato Clan who are trying to kill them. Is not having a good time, but he’s got his kids, wife and older brother. Saki is not surprised or impressed when his brother gets turned into a giant rat and brings home 4 mutant turtles

5) Nanana Ratdad/Ratman Splinter

Tired. Fed up. Keeps adopting waryward kids he co-parents with Kirby. The most likely of my Splinters to tell Shredder to get bent cause he’s busy right now. Somehow ended up in the Justice Force with actual superheroes. They all think the rat thing is just a gimmick and he has no intention of correcting them

6) Ghost Splinter 2 electric boogalo

Splinter doesn’t survive the fall in The Super Shredder/Darkest Plight and decides not to tell anyone about it. The gang all find out either when Shredder tries to kill him on top of the Wolf Hotel building, or when Shredder is brought back to life. Is trying to be a better father and make up for his mistakes

7) Time skip Splinter

His Turtles went into another dimension for a month... for them. For this Splinter 10 years have passed. Blamed himself for his sons’ ‘deaths’ and took up the fight against the Foot Clan alone. Karai/Miwa, April and Casey are trying to help him, but he is not having it. When the Turtles get back, he very much wants to wrap them up in blankets and keep them in the Lair where it’s safe. This old man also needs therapy

- even thou Aaron Z is the best rapper of the group aaron T is the best freestyle'er of the group and comes up with either the best or the weirdest lyrics.

- T and Tae start free style sessions at the most random times of the day with Tae beatboxing and T just making up lyrics about the most random things but sometimes the verses are actually good and the boys just decide to put it in one of there songs.

- Robaire is the biggest Disney fan out of all of them and him and Jesse used to watch together before they became so busy.

- Jesse trusts Robaire the most when it comes to baby sitting his kids. It's not that he doesn't trust the other guys but Robaire is simply the most responsible one out of them.

- Tea once caught T drinking some beer once because he wanted to try it out and now Tea teases him by calling him an 'alcoholic in the making' T didn't like the taste thou so he never picked up another beer again.

- But another reason T doesn't drink alcohol in general and tries to stay away from it as far as possible is that his dad used to be an alcoholic and althou T has a great bond with his dad he is to scared of becoming like him and Tae's joke turned him off of alcohol for ever.

- Tae and Z are both autistic and T has ADHD.

- tea used to get bullied in elementary school but at some point he got fed up with the classmates that kept bullying him and he straight up just.... Hit one of them in the face with a book and althou the bullying didn't stop right away he learned how to stick up for himself from that moment on.

- Robaire is an absolute momma's boy but he reay looks up to his dad and has a great bond with both of them.

- Jesse learned how to play guitar in high school to impress girls and discover that he had a serious passion for music and that's when he dicided to go to art school to become a performer.

- Jesse once beat up some paparazzi dude because he kept bothering Z.

- Z and T have confersation in Spanish from time to time and mostly just gossip about theire families but also about people from the crew from time to time. Little do they know that Jesse also understands Spanish and listens in on theire confos from sometimes to get in on the gossip.

- T and Z have knows each other sinds they were little because theire perants knew each other but they didn't go to the same elementary school and didn't live near each other so they didn't realy become friends until middle school.

- Robaire and Jesse are huge fall out boy fans but no one believes they are for some reason even thou they know multiple songs by heart and always sing along with the lyrics when they come on.

- Z also got bullied like Tae but he gor bullied in middle school and high school because he was 'too quite and intimidating' and people started to make up rumors about him. Saying that he killed someone once or that he was on a watch list witch caused Z to feel super isolated at the beginning oglf middle school until he and T became better friends.

- Robaire has glasses but he used to be one of those toxic mfs who say they don't need glasses until he gor lences.

- Z actually thinks that Robaire looks realy pretty with glasses on but he'd rather die than admit that.

- Robaire once caught T making out with one of the sound interns after a show (their were both 17 at the time) but decided to leave the boys alone and not interrupt them. He has never told anybody that he say them including T and T has no idea that Robaire saw him that night.

In my mind Alfred takes up the Caucasian side of America, very white and not very good about other diverse Cultures in America (Black, Asian, Native, etc etc,), grew up in a more limited diversity pool and didn't start learning abt the dif. Cultures until after moving out of Arthur's house and striking out on his own. (This is the kind of guy where if he was getting mugged by some homeless teen he'd give them his wallet, jacket, and probably offer them a ride home before realizing that they were legitimately homeless or something smh) think of him as the Suburban Boy Next Door who tries (very hard) but (innocently) fails at being a good poc ally. He has his ears pierced but doesn't usually wear anything in them unless he's dressing up or feels like it. Has an eagle tattooed across his back shoulders and the words "Freedom" and "Happiness" tattooed across his collarbones in fancy cursive (think like declaration of independence penmanship if you will)

As for Al, his appearance sits on the Native side in my mind. Very tan skin. Super dark eyes that he wears red contacts over cause he likes the aesthetic, a prominant nose bridge atypical to Native cultures of america, and black hair he likes to dye red because he can. He's very immersed in the diversity of America, grew up in heavily diverse populations (grew up super fucking poor and learned to live off the streets when he got older after moving out of Oliver's house-) has TONS of piercings and tattoos he got from friends over the years during like drunken nights with a semi-working tattoo gun. Probably has an upside down cross tattooed under his eye he got to piss off Oliver but felt bad when realizing he was wearing a satanic symbol without actually being a Satanist (man's respects religion's okay?) And started covering it up with foundation smh.

Personality

Alfred is very happy go lucky and very oblivious to most things. Or rather, that's how he appears. He understands more than most people give him credit for and he often uses that to his advantage when necessary. Talking to him is almost like decrypting a message, you have to be around him long enough to be able to understand what hides behind that friendly smile or beyond those blue-sky eyes. Secretly very angry and would legitimately end the world if he ever snapped. People should be afraid of him but really aren't. When someone does realize what his motives are and how his plans actually are, they often wonder who tf caused him to be so emotionally and mentally manipulative in such a way. Most people forget he was raised by Arthur, specifically in Arthur's prime as a Global Super Power and Pirateer, master of the Seven Seas. Etc.

Al is almost the same- he's actually usually pessimistic and seems very whelmed most of the time. Gives the impression he doesn’t GAF during important conversations but he's secretly storing every detail away for later use. Outwardly shows his anger to cover up how many other emotions are hiding underneath the surface. Also has the potential to snap and completely crush the world in the palm of his hand. Will absolutely get emotional if you persistently show him kindness. He's very timid around people who outwardly appear nice, this usually comes off as if he's angry at you for being nice but really he's just on edge because he was raised by Oliver and so he believes Nice people don't actually exist. People are just people who sometimes do nice things to make themselves feel better about their animosity. So you really have to decrypt him for a while before he starts believing you're an actually nice person.

Likes and dislikes

Alfred really likes Marvel. The movies, comics, shows, fanfiction, cosplay, EVERYTHING.

Allen prefers DC Comics. ANYTHING DC Comics. And I know what you're thinking, "He must really like the joker!" You're wrong. He fucking HATES the joker. Definitely would Kin Jason Todd. Fight me on that I dare you.

They both really like Star Wars. They actually fight over which movie is better A LOT.

Alfred (canonically) really likes meat, burgers, hotdogs, fricken, 10 meat pizza, you name it. Can't cook that well for the life of him. He knows how to make microwaved foods and some boxed pasta.

Allen is vegan. And actually works on metaphysical things like his Chakras and opening his third eye (not the sole purpose for him denouncing Dairy (as dairy shuts your third eye), that's mostly Oliver thecannibal Kirkland's fault). He's an AMAZING cook. Loves to experiment in the kitchen, especially with plant based foods

He's tricked Alfred into eating Plant Based meat on a multitude of occasions.

Alfred really likes sci-fi and thriller horror movies like Aliens or the SAW Franchise. Is (canonically) HORRIFIED of ghosts so he absolutely should not watch anything paranormal (he does anyways).

Allen prefers Paranormal! He loves the classics like Poltergiest, A Haunting in Conneticut, and the Insidious movies. He cannot watch SAW or Final Destination. He has too many intrusive thoughts for FD, and he cannot stand watching Death induced by mechanical objects like tablesaws or (legitimately any way someone dies in SAW smh)

Fun facts abt them:

Alfred is on Testosterone, but hasn't undergone any surgeries just yet. He prefers taping over binding because he doesn't like the sweatiness of wearing his suit and jacket over it.

Allen has gotten top surgery and uses Gel Testosterone because he's afraid of needles. He didn't like using tape before his surgery because it irritated his skin too much and left him with some scars from the adhesive.

Alfred always has a fidget toy on hand for his ADHD, there's usually a fidget cube in his pocket or something of the like. The reason he eats so much is because he hyperfocuses on projects or work to the point he forgets to have meals, so the man's metabolism has adapted to being fed constantly with snacks rather than meals.

Al had an oral fixation and has definitely lost the metal balls off his tongue piercing from chewing on it or messing with it in his mouth. He has to wear chewable jewelry around his neck to help him from clicking the tongue piercing off his teeth and risk chipping them. Absolutely happy Stims over cute things but he really tries to keep it to a minimum when around strangers or people he doesn't trust. He has a tendency towards collecting squishmallows.

They both listen to 8D music.

They both can draw REALLY well.

They play CoD together and have a shared Skyrim account they often contribute to. They won't admit it to each other but they find it interesting to see what happened to their character since the last time they played if the other did something with the game!

First impression: Stoic mom... She's funky. I like her design (Her design proceeded to stick in my head the way it was forever even though you changed it)

Impression now: She's still kind of stoic to me but I also see now that she's more just calm, composed, and autistic. I don't think I'd say I was expecting her to be uncaring, but how loving and affectionate she is was a nice surprise and warms my heart... I'd trust her with my life.

Favorite moment: Write her confronting William. Do it. I require it. /j but what you've implied about that lives in my head rent-free. Asides from that, her trying to protect Mari so badly in our first AU still makes me sob.

Idea for a story: Honestly if I were to write her, it'd be something with either Mari or my William... Probably Mari, my William's character is wobbly. And also I've pretty much never written Mari and that's a crime. Hurt-comfort between them real perhaps...

Unpopular opinion: I don't know what the popular opinion on her is so unpopular opinion, she's my mom, here I can show you the adoption pape-

Favorite relationship: Actually, I LOVE her relationship with your Elizabeth... I don't even remember many of the specifics, but I remember a feeling of both comfort and sadness when I heard you talking about them. Also biased one, but her relationship with Mari is so sweet to me too.

Favorite headcanon: Opal with a prosthetic still lives in my head sometimes... Otherwise, Opal also having ADHD and being aspec makes me insane.

Favorite moment: "The others are under my protection." is a line that still makes me batshit insane. It literally confirmed the headcanon I'd had for this character for YEARS prior.

Idea for a story: Mari being mentally ill as a character exploration. I'm leaving it at that because I don't feel like slapping TWs on this post. More complicated one that may get outdated, but sometimes I still think about that fic I wanted to write centered around Mari finding out that William's keeping him and the other Toys from telling Henry what's going on.

Unpopular opinion: Please guys... Please spare some non-Charlie and non-CC Puppets again... I know that's been blasted by canon but I loved it so much... PLEASE. SammyPuppet or Puppet kid who wasn't connected to William or Henry gang rise up. Also for a less niche opinion, I'm completely convinced that the Puppet's wracked with immense amounts of Survivor's Guilt by FFPS and I cannot be convinced otherwise.

Favorite relationship: Puppet and Henry and Puppet and William as actual developed dynamics make me insane. Also despite the above statement, I'm not immune to propaganda and Puppet and Charlie in AUs where the Puppet itself is sentient can hit so well sometimes.

Name: Niklas Emersohn

Age: 18

Pronouns: He/him

Info: Niklas has lived in Morning Rapids on his own for almost two years. Out of the whole squad he has the worst relationship with his parents and has gone no contact with them due to their toxicity. He has extended family in both Switzerland and Slovakia, some of whom he has a better relationship with but has not contacted because he’s worried the word might spread to his parents. He enrolled in Morning Rapids Academy to put distance between himself and them. The life he lives now is one he’s content with, he thinks that his friends are the only family he needs. He’s enrolled in city guard training, which basically means that he has courses in stuff needed to guard the city, like navigation and combat. He wants to use his skills to one day be able to protect those near him.  He’s been recently diagnosed with combined type ADHD, which made a lot of things in his life make a lot more sense. Niklas is trans and gay and often goes by the nickname Laszlo. One might argue that it defeats the purpose of a nickname, seeing as it’s as long as his actual name, but he doesn’t care. He likes both names, why should he choose? His hobbies mostly include athletic stuff, although he’d like to pursue some creative hobbies as well, he just doesn’t know where to start, there’s so many things to choose from! He’s outgoing and wants to see the good in everyone, although sometimes this leads to him ignoring red flags until they’re right in front of his face. He takes many things much harder than he lets on, and he has a tendency to hide his real feelings behind forced positivity. He hates being sad. Most of the time when he seems happy he’s actually happy, though. Once you really get to know him it’s not that hard to tell when he’s faking being happy. Because of his positive disposition and willingness to help people, he’s pretty popular. Not everyone likes him but those who do really do. He can’t help it, he’s just a fun guy to be around. Sometimes he speaks or acts before he has time to properly think, which has led to him saying some absolutely hilarious stuff. He’s proud of it because it means that he’s funny with and without intending it. He’s one year older than Virika and Alabaster.

Relationships with other characters:

Alabaster: Niklas has a sort of older brother relationship to Alabaster. Alabaster is also the only one that even remotely buys Niklas’s tall tales, so that gives them bonus points in his eyes. He also really admires Alabaster’s mathematical skills, as he himself has never been good at math or chemistry. There has been at least one situation where Alabaster explains some intricate plan with really complex terms and Niklas is like “I understood exactly none of that but I’m in!”

Virika: Niklas thinks Virika is the bee’s knees! They can joke around for hours without getting tired. He can’t understand how Virika isn’t super popular, she’s such a fun person to be around. Niklas isn’t a very fast reader but he’s been steadily chipping away at the first part of Virika’s favorite book series in an effort to learn about her interests. Besides, he’s learned that when he can freely pick what he wants to read and isn’t forced to do it, he really enjoys it. 

Jae-Seong: After some shenanigans and a shared near-death experience Niklas is pretty sure he’s succesfully befriended Jae-Seong. He's become a bit more open and less distant than he used to be. Niklas knows he can be a bit much sometimes, but surely if Jae-Seong disliked him they would simply stop talking to him and that hasn't showed any sign of happening. Niklas admires how well Jae-Seong knows the forests around Morning Rapids and finds him really intriguing. He hopes that they can become even better friends in the future

Kioni: Niklas gets the impression that Kioni hasn't had a lot of friends before, which is why he's determined to show her what a good friend is like. He thinks it’s working. In his opinion Kioni is really cool, she knows so much about plants and healing and stuff. Out of their group Niklas is the one who needs healing most frequently, because of his tendency to dive head first into trouble. He really hopes that Kioni isn’t too annoyed by that.

Benicio: Niklas and Benicio get along really well. Niklas really appreciates how Benicio has such a chill and calming presence. He’s planning on asking Benicio to help him choose a creative hobby to start, since Benicio has several and is really good at all of them. They both also do fencing, which is something they practice together. Their strategies are very different, so they swap tips and tricks a lot.

Liv: Niklas and Liv have been friends for a while longer than the rest of the group has been together. They met at the gym, Liv was there for the first time and Niklas offered to show her how everything works. Liv, in turn showed him around the city because at that point he hadn’t been there long enough to know where the best stores or nicest hangout spots were. They also go to the same parties and generally hang out in the same circles. They also have a running joke of referring to each other like fratbros. 

Trivia: There are a few characters in this group who are inspired by tropes I like, and Niklas is one of them. He’s a textbook definition himbo. He has the personality of a golden retriever, except like a very chaotic golden retriever. All of these characters also have a piece of myself in them, and Niklas is no exception. In addition to the ADHD and a few personality traits, he’s also the type of friend I really wanted when I was younger: I used to wish I had an older brother, and Niklas is a bit like that to a few characters in the group.

Red, Red! Guess what?? 'You-Know-Who' and I have been texting regularly back and forth since August (like a week after he shared his number I think). I was the first to send him something random but since then, he's texted me a few times ON HIS OWN!! (I'm also the only *insert my family's last name* girl he texts) He almost always initiates conversation by telling me had ice on his windshield (he already knows I like it cold, lol), a couple of times he even wanted to tell me about his day. He's remembered, not only the names of my puppies, but how their names are spelled! He's also been to our house three times - one of which he practically invited himself over (he said his evening cleared up and asked if me and my family would be up for a game night) out of the blue! I recently invited him to my upcoming low-key birthday dinner and he READILY accepted the invite! Saying that he always has a great time at my house. He also remembered that my birthday is the last week in October - something I've only mentioned once in passing.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we're becoming actual friends and I'm so happy, thankful, and excited! My best friend, and my mom's super logically-thinking best friend seem to think he's showing a little bit of interest, BUT... What's YOUR perspective on this, being that you're a guy.

Also... two or three weeks ago I commented on his church clothes; telling him that I "liked his color scheme". I'm pretty sure he appreciated the compliment but I don't know. Should I keep saying that, or should I just keep those comments to myself?

Congrats! That's super exciting Abby! I'd say the fact that he texts regularly and you're the only one he is texting is a really good sign. As is the remembering your birthday - not sure if it's a guy thing or an adhd thing, but remembering specific dates is hard and so only the important ones stick (the only two birthdays I dont have to look up are my mom and Sara, so yeah, thats a good sign). But if he's trying to impress you, he probably made a point of remembering that day. I don't want to get your hopes up, but yeah, it does sound like he either knows you have a crush and isn't opposed to the idea, or has a little one of his own. Also, here is the thing about guys and compliments: we get a lot less of them than women. So it's a double-edged sword because 1. They mean more and so we really appreciate them, but 2. 1: Zenko Nao (Furry) -He's perpetually tired, but still manages to be dorky -Insanely passionate about their hobby as a furry, which is how it ended up becoming his ultimate in the first place -They try hard to be extroverted, but due to having paranoia issues and the stress of being internet famous getting to him, they tend to be more introverted than he'd like to be -Very smart, but not where it counts -Prefers to snack all day instead of eating full meals

2: Hibiki Naomi (Poet) -Has really bad depression and prefers to be left alone.... no one ever leaves him alone tho -He's also quiet, really sassy, and hasn't the fuckest clue how to hold a normal conversation -Carries around the notebook he writes all his poems in and looks at anyone who tries to touch said book with murder in his one visible eye. -Due to a mixture of sensory issues and trauma, he cannot stand loud noises and will get overwhelmed by them -Despite this, he somehow manages to become best friends with Neiro.... a talkative drummer.

5: Kazuhiko Ichigo (Surfer) -A laid back guy who is sounds and acts high, but has never done drugs of any kind, he's just naturally like that -So chill his aura calms others down, is entirely unaware of this -He's pretty selfless, and has a track record of saving fellow surfers before the lifeguards can. -He has no intent to be a hero of any kind and even hates being called one, but ends up frequently seen as one due to his impulse to help -i don't remember why this one is here but on the google doc i have my notes on, there's a bullet point under Kazuhiko's section that just says "mariocart"... so uh... mariocart?

6: Daiki Dekiru (Traceur) -Very much a dumbass, both in the stupid way and in the chaotic way -Peek himbo. stupid, strong, and very sweet -Loud and impulsive, makes you wonder how he hadn't killed himself doing something dumb prior to the killing game -he also has zero filter, as in not only does he say whats on his mind- but he also would share his credit card info unprompted -I got one acronym for you: ADHD

7: Ellodie (Hatter) -She's a walking Alice In Wonderland reference -She's openly very weird and presents herself as chipper, but also if you push her just right she can become super eerie -She'll talk your ears off if you aren't careful, but unlike Daiki she is excellent at withholding information -Queen of nonsense, but also super smart and has a knack for using her nonsense to make sense -Advocate for being yourself despite what anyone thinks, absolutly does not believe in the concept of cringe and actually takes being calls cringe as a complement- to her it's a sign she's doing a great job at openly being herself -MOST DEVELOPED CHARACTER!! i've worked so very hard on her and i love her so -Also she's the obligatory foreign kid, shes's from the British countryside. she tries to not use British slang as to not confused her peers but it does slip on occasion

8: Neiro Shibata (Drummer) -Resident "cool big sister" archetype -She's a bit emotional and cares deeply for people she sees are struggling (why she's besties with Hibiki)  -She also tries to be respectful but struggles a bit some times due to that aforementioned emotional-ness, she sometimes says stuff an back tracks when she realizes it upset someone -Uses her drumming as a way to vent her emotions

9: Jun Hanako (???) -Man of few words, he talks mostly in short sentences and lacks any kind of emotion in his voice -Don't let his voice fool you tho, he's a pretty happy guy, he just shows emotion in other ways -He's pretty hardworking and a big neat freak, if the others won't clean something up, he'll go behind them and take care of it -He is pretty secretive though, doesn't share much about himself and what he does say is so basic it feels like you haven't learned anything

10: Chiba Ayame (Hacker) -Protag's assistant/best friend -The straightman of the group, she actively hates when people cut the fool and wants things to be taken more seriously -Blunt as fuck, will tell you the fuck off and hurt your feelings if it means getting her point across -Resents people who can put their honest selves out there and not get hurt (despises Ellodie the most) -Wants to be seen as normal -Hacking is a guilty pleasure of hers, she has no clue how it ended up becoming her ultimate

12: Masaki Jiro (Astrologist) -Protag!! -He's a bit of a mess, he wants to be on good terms with everyone but is also bad at communicating cause he's a bit of a shut in -Generally cheerful, but does have a mean streak in him that he's trying to work on controlling -Nervous panics, will spiral if someone doesn't intervene -Clumsy and tries to act like he isn't, he'll trip then try to continue what he was doing like he didn't just almost eat shit

13: Kasai Koyo (Lucky Student) -Underdeveloped as hell -Mom friend with the patience of a saint, it's hard to get her pisses off be even when you do she'll suppress the fuck out of it -She has the desire to help others but always feels out of place wherever she goes, being surrounded by ultimates makes this actively worse -Ironically enough, despite being the ult lucky student, she does not believe in luck, karma, fate, or anything akin in nature

14: Kobe Katsumi (Film Artist) -Do you by chance know Reggie Belafonte from Surfs Up? -Cause this man is just Reggie but human -Obnoxiously loud and showbizz-y, kinda sleazy -He's always trying to make things sound more amazing than they are, especially the things he likes -And contrast, he'll do everything he can to burn an idea to the ground if he doesn't like it -Every theater kid stereotype bundled into one shitbag -Also tries to pretend like he's more important than he is

15: Asuka Seo (Pilot) -Underdeveloped as shit -He comes off as snobbish due to how uptight and bitter he is -Dude's actually just super dead inside and wants to be left the fuck alone -Cares more about logic than feelings (cough cough trauma cough) -Do not try to provoke, you will regret it

16: Ohara Susumu (Toy Maker) -Just as huggable and sweet as the toys she makes -Very neutral in a "whatever works for you" kind of way, she'd rather do things others want to do instead of adding in her own suggestions -Has no real friends, her first ever plushie she made (Bridget, the cat plushie) is her best friend -Self sacrificial, if it benefits someone else she'll do it regardless of how uncomfy she is, she doesn't realize this isn't healthy behavior tho and simply calls it "my way of being kind" -gets anxious when people ask her about herself cause she isn't sure how to respond
