Unfortunately I can't give you too much in the way of canon information. This is her bio in the Legends of Kaldheim article:

Moritte is an enigma. A shapeshifter from Littjara, she was born a Gladewalker. While many grown-up shapeshifters leave Littjara to explore the realms, Moritte wanted more knowledge. To reach that end, she took the form of a young Covewalker. Living among the Covewalkers, Moritte absorbed all their knowledge and secrets before vanishing into the mists. She now wanders the realms, the most knowledgeable shapeshifter of all, seeking the solutions to new unanswered questions.

It's vague, I expect delibrately so, but that's a little frustrating when you want actual details. I wrote a more in-depth post about expanding Littjara and changeling lore a while back, which might help if you're looking for headcanon inspiration.

As to the "knowledge" Moritte seeks, I'm inclined to believe it is cosmological, since that's a major part of Kaldheim's functioning--the way realms are formed, what happens to them when they break off the tree (they become planes!), and how Cosmos monsters are born. As a creature especially attuned to aether and the Cosmos, Moritte learning more about Kaldheim cosmology would also mean deepening her knowledge about herself.

Perhaps her quest for all-encompassing knowledge leads her to a revelation about the Multiverse even before the Phyrexian invasion forces everyone to be very, very aware of it. It might even entangle her with forces far beyond her comprehension. Namely, the Eldrazi. After all, what are Eldrazi but much larger Cosmos monsters? Wouldn't she want to find out?

After March of the Machine, I am almost positive that Moritte has left Kaldheim, traveling to learn the lore of other planes. (I know it very likely does not work like this but it would also be funny if all changelings were now planeswalkers, because of how Kaldheim cosmology works.) Some fun places for her to be: Arcavios for its repository of knowledge in Strixhaven, Kamigawa for its overlap of mortal and spirit realms, Zendikar for its history of entanglement with the Eldrazi titans.

I have correctly predicted major canon at least twice with my Kaldheim posts and I'm still riding that power trip a little bit.

Good question. Primarily, it’s because the original title of the Hark! A Vagrant comic was “Javert is in a slash fiction”, but for all I know, it could be because of the reasons you’ve suggested. Go wild. Headcanon either of them as you see fit.

Everything but her heart aches.

It is a sweet and fierce kind of satisfaction, the aftermath of long battle. Limbs shaking from adrenaline and exertion all at once, her brain and body still both wired from hours of fighting and unable to let go of the rush quite yet. The thick, sticky scent of blood all around her only serves to intensify it, vampire instincts driven into frenzied energy.

An entire clan obliterated. The Reveler wasn't joking when he said they would submit or fall. If any of Burning-Tree survive, it will not be enough of them to constitute a clan any longer. Most likely they'll try to find each other, try to hold onto their identity and pride, but this is not the first time a clan has risen and fallen. The survivors will either perish in time or be absorbed into the other clans.

A Gruul with no clan never lasts long.

The new Guildmaster’s mana still burns brightly, and she turns to congratulate him when she senses his approach, her teeth still bared as the Rage and battlefire slowly fade away.

The axe is already falling toward her by the time her exhausted brain registers the attack.

And for once in her life, she won't be able to dodge it.

Time slows to a crawl.

Something bursts at that moment-- perhaps it is her pride, her trust, her confidence in herself. Perhaps it is the bubble she so valiantly tried to reinforce around her anxieties. She always knew the Reveler would betray her, but damn it, she had almost fooled herself into thinking she had finally proven herself to him. A worthy ally, a tolerable presence, even if they grated on each other far too much to ever be friends.

But the pressure feels different, not the anger and fear she should be feeling, not the righteous fury at being ambushed like some haughty Legionnaire. This does not rise from that place deep within her where Tavrik taught her to rein in her wild emotions. It does not boil up as anger does, nor burn through her as hate, nor freeze her limbs as terror engulfs her.

Instead, she feels a unique and unsettling clarity as the vampire under her skin opens its eyes.

As time breaks free of its standstill, as the axe meets the crown of her head, she closes her eyes.

And awakens.

Ravnica feels a specific way to her. It always has, even with the differences between the City and the Wastes, the wilds and the metropolis. The energy of an Izzet lab crackles and sparks along her senses, but still it complements the hum of the earth's own mana, pulsing beneath all their feet. Azorian mana seeks to exert its will over everything, but even they cannot quiet the planet's beating heart.

Death, too, has its own unique energy, something she has always been able to sense and yet never put into words when asked. She could always tell before Rath and even Tavrik when a field of corpses was still alive, was merely a trap set for opportunistic looters who would find such a place as easy pickings. Even in slumber, when her subconscious runs rampant with her imagination, she can tell the difference between life and death. After all, it is life she feeds on.

So before her eyes even open, she innately knows two things.

One, she is still alive.

Two, she is no longer on Ravnica.

This world feels wilder, darker. There is a feral quality to everything she senses, even the ferns surrounding her. The earth's heartbeat feels more like a roar beneath her hands, and the air tastes heavier, fuller, like Ravnica might have been in its youth before the city began to spread. Her mouth waters as her fingertips dig into the rich soil beneath her palms, as she feels that pulse pull her deeper, as her own tries to align with it. The land, the trees, the underbrush-- if all of this feels so alive, what do the animals feel like? The people? A single feeding here might keep her sated for days!

But there are other concerns, things she should be focusing on if she wants to make it long enough to feed.

She's heard the word Planeswalker before, knows in theory what they can do, knows that the Reveler calls himself one, but knowing a word and understanding what it means are two different things. Sure, she could be told that there are other planes, other worlds, but the concept was so far outside of what she knew that she couldn't truly wrap her head around the idea.

As a chorus of howls rises in the distance, she starts to wonder if that lack of understanding may have put her in the way of harm.

More than that, she wonders if that harm will find her before she finds her way home.

Kaldheim Homebrew: Realmwardens

This is a mono-green faction I initially created as part of my changeling Horizon Walker ranger's backstory for a Kaldheim D&D game, together with my lovely DM @socialpoison! Rooted in the realm of Littjara, the Realmwardens are Kaldheim's cosmic park rangers, keeping the World Tree healthy and the realms in balance.

As optional context, my previous post on Littjara and shapeshifter lore is here.

The world of Kaldheim is a compound plane, made up of many realms growing together on the branches of a great World Tree, and the Realmwardens are its guardians. The vast majority are shapeshifters, and the faction's core ideology--world-spanning and fluid--is deeply linked to shapeshifter life histories. They are, after all, the only people of Kaldheim gifted with the natural ability to cross the realms and survive the Cosmos. However, members of other species may also be welcomed into their ranks, particularly human Omenseekers.

Founded long ago by legendary shapeshifter rangers of Littjara, Realmwardens live and act by a code of tenets:

The Code of Realmwardens

Fight for life, not for glory.

Remain impartial in the conflicts of the realmbound.

Rise above realmbound shortsightedness; remember the unity of the Cosmos.

Draw wisdom from all you encounter.

Act toward no realm's destruction.

Never lose sight of from whence you came.

Above all, preserve life.

Unlike the rest of Kaldheim, Realmwardens place no emphasis on glory in battle. The majority are changelings who need not concern themselves with the judgement of Valkyries, focusing instead on duties which are unsung but essential. This includes patrolling Doomskar sites, protecting the inhabitants of any realm involved, and securing Omenpaths. Their focus is on the ecological balance of Kaldheim as a whole, seeing each realm as an integral part of the World Tree's ecosystem (that is, until they age and fall). For example, though Realmwardens often find themselves at odds with the demons of Immersturm when they pour out of Doomskars and spread carnage, they'd step in all the same if Immersturm itself was threatened. Even the darkest corners of Kaldheim are essential to its balance.

Realmwardens are neutral in conflict, as they guard what is and what always will be--the World Tree. Like the Valkyries, they operate independently of whatever pantheon is currently ruling and are in fact duty-bound not to obey or be beholden to gods. They also tend to stay out of intra-realm conflicts, even if the solution appears morally straightforward. Their job must always be the big picture, and they must serve Kaldheim as a whole above any and all else. Even when Realmwardens kill, it must be with the ultimate goal of preventing threats to life throughout the realms.

Realmwardens are most commonly seen wielding bows and arrows, teleporting across battlefields in swirls of aurora magic and casting powerful banishment spells on their foes. They leave behind myths of great heroes of various races defeating cosmic threats before disappearing, never to be seen again, content to live through skalds' songs and mages' whispers in their ever-changing forms.

if you are still taking questions, what is your *favorite* mtg card and why

ive thought about this a long time since i got this ask littjara and i have not come to a good conclusion LOL so im just gonna ramble a bit and we'll see where we end up :)

the first card that comes to mind when asked this question is moonfolk puzzlemaker+

shes awesome!! i love her so much. shes one of if not the first card i ever pulled. what a sweetheart. shes just like me fr. and yet i cannot play this pretty they/she thing anywhere!! my first deck was one wren built for me around her where she piloted lots of vehicles, but unfortunately she just isnt a good card. moonfolk puzzlemaker is definitely my favorite common, but its hard to call her my favorite card when i just dont play her

this led me to other ideas. i love interaction, so my favorite interaction spell is almost definitely void rend!

what a good card!! however, as cool as it is i still struggle to commit to calling it my favorite-- i dont have a consistent esper deck i play, so im just not resolving this baby as often as id like. too bad

well, then whats my favorite card right now in this moment? im very much hyperfixating on coin flips in mtg, so its gotta be stitch in time! what a cutie!

Heyoooooo it's finally here! This chapter features a returning side character from a previous chapter, bagels, and a public discussion of smut!
