Unveiling the Secrets: Optimizing Performance Through Maserati Suspension Servicing
Tumblr media
When one thinks of Maserati, images of luxury, style, and performance immediately come to mind. But beneath the sleek exterior and roaring engine lies a crucial component that often goes unnoticed: the suspension system. The suspension is not just about providing a smooth ride; it's about optimizing performance, ensuring safety, and delivering an unforgettable driving experience. In this article, we delve into the secrets of Maserati suspension servicing, uncovering how it can elevate your driving dynamics to new heights.
The Art of Suspension Engineering: Maserati's Legacy
At the heart of every Maserati lies a sophisticated suspension system meticulously engineered to deliver unparalleled performance. Maserati's legacy in suspension engineering dates back decades, with each model boasting cutting-edge technology and precision craftsmanship. From the iconic Maserati Quattroporte to the exhilarating GranTurismo, every vehicle is designed to offer a perfect balance of comfort and agility on the road.
Understanding the Suspension System: A Symphony of Components
The Maserati suspension system is a complex network of components working in harmony to absorb bumps, maintain stability, and enhance handling. From the suspension springs and shock absorbers to the control arms and sway bars, each part plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless driving experience. However, over time, these components can wear out, leading to degraded performance and compromised safety.
The Importance of Suspension Servicing: Unlocking Peak Performance
Regular maintenance and servicing are essential to keep your Maserati performing at its best, and the suspension system is no exception. By addressing issues such as worn-out components, leaks, or misalignments, Maserati suspension servicing can significantly improve ride quality, responsiveness, and overall driving dynamics. Moreover, proper servicing can help prevent more extensive and costly repairs down the line, ensuring that your Maserati remains in pristine condition for years to come.
The Maserati Suspension Service Experience: A Symphony of Expertise
When it comes to servicing your Maserati's suspension, entrusting the job to qualified professionals is paramount. Maserati-certified technicians possess the knowledge, expertise, and state-of-the-art equipment needed to diagnose issues accurately and perform precise repairs or replacements. Whether it's adjusting the ride height, fine-tuning the damping settings, or aligning the wheels, every aspect of the suspension service is meticulously executed to meet Maserati's exacting standards.
Enhancing Performance Through Suspension Upgrades: Unleash the Potential
For Maserati enthusiasts seeking to take their driving experience to the next level, suspension upgrades offer an exciting opportunity to unleash the full potential of their vehicle. Whether it's upgrading to performance-oriented springs and dampers, installing adjustable coilovers, or enhancing stability with upgraded sway bars, these modifications can transform the way your Maserati handles on the road. Moreover, with advancements in suspension technology, aftermarket upgrades can often surpass the performance of factory components, giving you a competitive edge on the track or the street.
Conclusion: Elevate Your Maserati Experience
In the world of luxury automotive engineering, every detail matters, and the suspension system is no exception. By investing in Maserati suspension servicing, you're not just maintaining your vehicle; you're unlocking its true potential. From ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride to enhancing cornering capabilities and overall performance, proper suspension maintenance is essential for any Maserati owner looking to elevate their driving experience. So, the next time you hit the road in your Maserati, remember that the secret to optimizing performance lies beneath the surface, waiting to be unveiled through expert suspension servicing.

The holy grail of the hot rod generation was to be able to fabricate beautiful car bodies in steel and other materials. Many of the kids who became Hot Rod building legends had honed their fabrication skills in the hot house of the WW2 American economy. The war ended and charged-up servicemen came home and wanted the buzz of driving fast cars. It was boom time in America and everything seemed possible.
Dean Jeffries was one of this generation of brilliant mechanics and fabricators with an audacious enough vision to dream with his eyes wide open. Having worked extensively with AC Cobra creator Carroll Shelby, he began to build the Mantaray in 1963 in response to a call for submissions to a high prestige competition that had been posted by a promoter called Al Slonaker.
Tumblr media
The young Californian fused two old Maserati single seater chassis he had acquired and welded them together. The suspension, brakes, and steering were kept on for the finished article but apart from four Weber carburetors, the car was, he told Street Rodder Magazine recently “true-blue American, right down to the 15-inch magnesium-cast Halibrand wheels and the bred-for-Indianapolis Goodyear Blue Streak Speedway Special tires.”
Unsurprisingly, the gorgeously curvacious body Jeffries created (which was, apparently, hand-built from no less than 86 sheets of metal), was enough to win him the ‘contest of fame’. This not only won him a prize of $10,000 and a trip to Europe, but also changed the way the world thought about Hot Rods.
This is what we call truly creative car culture. And we love it.

Maserati  A6G/54 Spider by Frua (1 of 10).
From 1954 Maserati offered the final edition of the A6G sports car. As with its predecessor, the sales designation 2000 GT was frequently used in brochures and advertisements. On the race tracks of the World Sports Car Championship, the corresponding offshoots were called A6GCS. By 1957, only 60 Maserati A6G/54 cars had been built, with the bodies being exclusively built by external coachbuilders such as Allemano, Zagato and Frua.
So the A6G/54 presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 1954 had to meet high expectations. On the one hand, its driving performance was to clearly exceed that of its direct predecessor. On the other hand, Maserati naturally also wanted to increase its production figures again. And last but not least, there was direct competition with Ferrari, an up-and-coming company that had been enticing customers by building sports cars in the immediate vicinity since 1947. Accordingly, the engineers under Gioacchino Colombo began to thorougly rework the two-liter inline six-cylinder engine. Compared to the A6G, the ratio of bore to stroke was changed, turning a long stroke engine into a short stroke engine with two overhead camshafts. Compared to the A6GCS, Maserati used a chain instead of sprockets to drive the camshafts in the A6G/54 to improve reliability in everyday use. These measures increased the revs and thus the power output, which in this case was around 50 percent higher than that of the predecessor. Expressed in figures, 110 kW/150 hp was initially available, later even 118 kW/160 hp thanks to dual ignition.
As already mentioned at the beginning, Maserati at that time only produced the engines, transmissions and the tubular frame made of steel tubes including suspensions for the A6G/54. Then they sent the components to the coachbuilder selected by the individual customer. The official brochures offered a choice of four bodies. Tipo A and Tipo B came from Frua, Tipo C from Allemano and Tipo D from Zagato. Pinin Farina had previously fitted various A6 and A6G chassis, but then fell out of favour with Maserati when they entered into close cooperation with Ferrari. Only for the A6GCS, a few bodies were still being built there at the request of Maserati dealer Mimmo Dei.
This dealer was also the one who started the ball rolling for the A6G/54 Frua Spider. After a Spider based on a A6GCS chassis with the engine of the A6G/54 was completed in Pietro Frua’s workshop in the spring of 1955, Mimmo Dei ordered a small series of ten vehicles. However, only the first one was given the same design as the original model. The other nine were given an extended front and other modifications in detail. Different bumpers and small fake air intakes on the rear fenders for example.

De Tomaso Deauville.
Launched in 1970 the Ghia-designed Deauville was created to compete with cars such as Jaguar’s XJ12 and Maserati’s Quattroporte, although it actually shares a chassis with the Quattroporte III Powered by a 5763cc Ford Cleveland V8 engine and Ford three-speed automatic transmission, the car boasted all-round independent suspension and disc brakes.
The vehicle was claimed to be capable of getting to 100 km/h in about 7.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of around 233 km/h.
Only 244 cars were ever built.

Here’s a lil’ sneak peek at a nice one; this is my daily, a 2017 Jaguar “X260” XF 20d Prestige. It just underwent a full paint correction and detail in prep for sale on Cars & Bids.
Tumblr media
This one is finished in Ultimate Black Metallic over Latte/Espresso with Burl Walnut Gloss and Morse Code Aluminum. It’s equipped with its namesake 20d engine, a 2.0l turbodiesel I4, pushing 181 HP and 318 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels via a ZF 8-speed automatic.
It’s good for a moderate 0-60 sprint of 7.9 seconds, a top speed of 121 MPH, and upwards of 40 MPG. Where its promise really lives is all in the midrange; like most diesel engines, low-end torque is constantly there, but the immense buildup of power that comes on towards the middle of the rev range is what really keeps these pulling and pushing. Couple that natural diesel torque curve with the forced induction of a turbocharger, and this power train comes alive around 1,700 RPMs. Keeping the transmission in S and the drive modes in Dynamic will place the car squarely in that rev band and keep it there as long as possible, always spooling the turbo and maintaining a slightly higher engine speed.
The resulting performance is intoxicating; carving the winding backgrounds of Carlisle, navigating the undulating landscape of Stowe, and overtaking leisurely traffic in Manchester will never once feel slow, or lethargic, or dangerous. You just ease into the accelerator, listen for the telltale whistle, dig in, and feel as an immense surge propels your forward. It’s a charismatic power plant, and one that keeps you on your toes - always keeping you acutely aware of when and where power builds, where it wanes, how it wants to go, and where you can hand off the momentum and torque of the engine to the transmission for a kick-down.
It’s immensely helpful that Jaguar’s complex suspension setup and highly tailored geometry give this car a ride only margins away from a Mercedes-Benz, with the eager spirit of an Audi, and the sharpness of a BMW. With a nearly even weight split, a wider track than many of its primary competitors, and one of the most capable AWD systems outside of Audi Quattro, Subaru Symmetrical, and Alfa/Maserati Q4, and this car definitely poses a unique proposition for the kind of buyer that genuinely wants a nice, daily drivable, efficient, and reliable car, but with all the marks of a sporty and engaging drive, when needed. It’s a car that has usable power at all times, but especially so when you’ve reached the apex of a turn and you rocket out with immediate power on tap, or when you feel the ground rising below you and the car hunkers down and starts pulling like a Mack truck even as it climbs that hill.
In reality, the ingenuity of this car and JLR’s Ingenium engine is that it feels only a step away from a more traditional gasoline engine, but the elements that make it a diesel are not lost either. Its power is similar to any gas counterpart, but there’s far more drama and flair and theatrics with it. In some parts, it harkens back to much earlier turbocharged cars that would drive quite normally until boost kicked in, in outrageous amounts, all at once, and suddenly the entire characteristic of the experience would change. It’s the same reason why I bought not one but two (nearly) identical diesel Jaguars!
After getting t-boned in my XE 20d Prestige, I purchased an E 63 AMG that was flawless in every regard. It was exceptionally well-equipped and was by far the most insane car I’d ever owned, but after barely six months, I sold it and purchased this XF, shipping it all the way from California to Massachusetts in the height of 2022’s wildfires and market inflation, and it’s been a blast ever since.
This one is rather uniquely equipped with options such as the Comfort & Convenience and Technology Packages, plus additional à la carte options, giving it soft-close doors, heated/ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, power liftgate, 10.2” InControl Touch Pro, 12.3” digital cockpit, 17-speaker/825W Meridian Surround Sound, and 19” Axis 14-spoke wheels.
But, with all that said, it is time for another new experience, and with the fun of summer right around the corner, I think it’s time to part ways with this charming Brit for something a little more exotic. So, I leave you now with a few photos that will be featured on Cars & Bids in the coming weeks:

Exploring the Exquisite Maserati Car Suspension in Redondo Beach
Tumblr media
Redondo Beach, with its scenic coastal roads and vibrant atmosphere, serves as the perfect backdrop to explore the unmatched elegance and engineering excellence of Maserati cars. Among the many facets that contribute to the allure of these luxury vehicles, the Maserati car suspension system stands out as a true masterpiece. In this article, we embark on a journey to unravel the intricacies of Maserati's suspension technology and discover how it enhances the driving experience on the picturesque roads of Redondo Beach.
The Artistry behind Maserati Car Suspension:
Maserati, a name synonymous with sophistication and performance, places a strong emphasis on the artistry of their vehicles' suspension systems. The suspension is not just a functional component but a carefully crafted element that blends seamlessly with the overall design philosophy of Maserati cars. The goal is to provide a driving experience that is as smooth as it is exhilarating, and the suspension plays a pivotal role in achieving this balance.
Engineering Excellence:
At the heart of Maserati's suspension technology is a commitment to engineering excellence. The meticulous design process involves a fusion of cutting-edge technology and a deep understanding of automotive dynamics. Redondo Beach, known for its diverse terrain ranging from coastal roads to hilly landscapes, demands a suspension system that can adapt to varying conditions without compromising performance.
Maserati employs state-of-the-art technologies, including electronically controlled dampers and adaptive air suspension, to ensure optimal handling and comfort. These innovations allow the car to seamlessly adjust its suspension settings in real-time, providing a plush ride during leisurely drives and transforming into a performance-oriented setup when the need for spirited driving arises.
Adaptive Air Suspension:
One of the standout features of Maserati's suspension technology is the adaptive air suspension system. This sophisticated system continuously monitors various driving parameters such as speed, road conditions, and driver input to adjust the ride height and stiffness accordingly. This adaptability ensures that the Maserati glides gracefully over Redondo Beach's uneven surfaces, delivering a smooth and comfortable ride.
The adaptive air suspension not only enhances comfort but also contributes to the car's overall aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. By lowering the ride height at higher speeds, Maserati optimizes the car's performance and fuel economy, showcasing the brand's commitment to a harmonious blend of luxury and efficiency.
Electronically Controlled Dampers:
Complementing the adaptive air suspension are the electronically controlled dampers that further refine the driving experience. Maserati employs advanced algorithms to continuously adjust the damping force of each wheel independently. This dynamic response ensures that the tires maintain optimal contact with the road surface, enhancing grip and stability.
In Redondo Beach, where the allure of coastal drives is coupled with winding roads, the electronically controlled dampers prove invaluable. Whether cruising along the shoreline or navigating the curves of the Palos Verdes Hills, Maserati's suspension system adapts seamlessly to provide a confident and engaging driving experience.
Performance Meets Comfort:
What sets Maserati apart is its ability to seamlessly integrate high-performance capabilities with luxurious comfort. The car suspension, with its adaptive nature and advanced technologies, exemplifies this balance. Redondo Beach becomes a playground where drivers can unleash the power of their Maserati on open stretches and still enjoy a refined and comfortable ride when exploring the city's more relaxed avenues.
Conclusion:
In Redondo Beach, the Maserati car suspension system transforms every drive into an unforgettable experience. The artistry and engineering excellence behind this technology reflect Maserati's commitment to providing a driving experience that goes beyond transportation – it's a journey that indulges the senses and elevates the soul. As Maserati continues to innovate and push the boundaries of automotive engineering, the coastal roads of Redondo Beach will remain the perfect canvas for drivers to explore the exquisite suspension that makes each Maserati a true masterpiece on wheels.

1970 Pontiac Formula 400
1970 Pontiac Formula 400 – The Other Performance Firebird
The story behind the development of GM’s F-body ponycars has been well documented. When Ford’s groundbreaking Mustang debuted in 1964, it tapped an emerging youth market that was hungry for a new type of car geared specifically to them. GM misjudged the public’s response to the Mustang and then scrambled to develop a similar style car after witnessing Ford’s unprecedented first model year sales success. Chevrolet was the lead division in engineering the F-body, and Pontiac grudgingly accepted the platform for their use in March 1966, only after GM management turned down PMD General Manager John DeLorean’s proposal for his own Mustang fighter.
Tumblr media
Pontiac didn’t have much time to transform the Firebird from its Camaro configuration before releasing it in February 1967. Their design and engineering lead time was significantly reduced and consequently, the Firebird was forced to use quite a bit of Camaro sheetmetal and other components. Competition between Pontiac and Chevrolet was intense, and having to use the other division’s engineering and design was a bitter pill for DeLorean’s maverick staff to swallow.
The circumstances surrounding the second generation Firebird were another story. Pontiac actually began working on their second generation just as the first Firebirds were hitting dealer showrooms. From design to engineering, Pontiac dominated the divisional rivalry, and this time around the Firebird would be all Pontiac from roof to road. There was little carried over to the second generation with the exception of the Trans Am nameplate and basic engine configurations. The suspension was tuned for more responsive handling with little compromise to ride comfort. Computer aided engineering chose the proper front and rear spring deflection rates predicated on model and usage. Stabilizer bars were used front and rear and the steering box was mounted ahead of the front axle for better response.
Tumblr media
The sexy new body was rooted in GM styling chief Bill Mitchell’s infatuation with Italian sports car design. GM chose heavily from the rounded shapes of Ferrari and Maserati, and it showed in the smooth flow of fender lines, the curved window glass and raked windshield. One remarkable difference from pervious GM designs was the lack of a quarter window. Instead, the doors were lengthened to take up a larger portion of the quarter. The massive doors were heavy, however the side appearance was cleaner and far sportier. A lift bar door handle added to the smooth side look. Chrome was distinctively absent. The Native American-inspired Firebird emblem was on the decklid and the nose of all but base model cars.
Up front, the twin nostril grille and single headlamps provided a clean appearance, thanks to the use of Endura to create a bumper-less front end with a valance that cleanly rolled beneath the grille with large cross hair parking lamps mounted in the lower corners of the valance. At the rear, the smooth tumble home enhanced the Firebirds fuselage shape. The tail was flat and filled with twin tail lamps that met the quarter panel’s round rear profile. A recessed tag housing, thin blade chrome rear bumper, and rounded lower valance completed the rear end’s clean look.
Tumblr media
Inside, the Firebird’s wide, expansive dash housed the instrument panel consisting of three center nacelles for gauges, with smaller gauges at the right and room for the heater controls and additional switches and knobs. Directly below the center of the dash was another stack that contained the radio and ashtray. Even the base interior was sumptuous, with Pontiac’s indestructible Morrokide vinyl upholstery covering the bucket seats and door panels. The quarter trim panels and headliner were composed of molded polymeric material that provided a smooth surface and absorbed sound.
The 1970 Pontiac line up was composed of the base Firebird with 250 cid six, the mid range, 350 cid Espirit, the 400 cid Formula 400, and the 400 cid Ram Air Trans Am. Of the four, perhaps the most intriguing was the Formula 400. While the Trans Am was loaded with visuals like a shaker hood, fender mounted air extractors, wild front air spoiler, rear wheel opening air spoilers, and wide center stripe, the Formula had none of these. For those who preferred to have a muscular pony car sans the exterior adornments, the Formula 400 was just the ticket. Outside, the only difference between the mild mannered Espirit and the Formula was a special fiberglass hood that sported a pair of front reaching hood scoops (first considered for the Trans Am), sport style dual outside mirrors, and a pair of Formula 400 scripts below the Firebird nameplate on the fenders.
Under the sheetmetal, however, is where the $3,440 Formula’s credentials lay. Standard engine was the 400 cid V8 which generated 330 horsepower @ 4800rpm and 430 lbs.-ft. torque @ 3000rpm. Car & Driver tested a Formula 400 with this engine and automatic transmission and recorded a 0-60 acceleration time of 6.4 seconds and quarter mile performance of 14.7 seconds at 98.9mph.

The optional engine was the Ram Air III V8, which produced 345 horsepower @ 5000rpm and 430 lbs.-ft. torque @ 3400rpm, thanks in part to a higher compression and a more aggressive camshaft profile. While Pontiac offered a 370 horsepower Ram Air IV, it never found its way into a Formula 400. On the Ram Air III equipped Formulas, the hood scoops were opened and a pair of rubber “boots” were fitted to the hood’s underside. They snugged up to holes in the air cleaner snorkels and fed cold outside air to the Rochester Quadra Jet carburetor. Subtle “RAM AIR” decals were affixed to the outboard sides of the hood scoops. The Formula’s 400 engine was dressed up with chromed air cleaner lid and valve covers. Dual exhausts with chrome tips were also standard.
Standard transmission was the M13, a heavy duty Dearborn three-speed manual box. A pair of Muncie four speeds was offered optionally, the wide ratio M20 and close ratio M21. Also optional was the M40 three-speed Turbo Hydra Matic transmission. A 3.55:1 rear axle ratio was standard, while air conditioned models received 3.31:1 ratios. Optional ratios were 3.07:1 and 3.73:1.

The Formula received a firmer suspension with 300-pounds/inch deflection in the front springs and 103 pounds/inch in the rear. The front stabilizer measured 1.125 inches in the front and the rear bar was .620 inches with firm control shocks mounted at all four corners. Front disc brakes were standard with rear drums. Standard tires were F70 x 14 on six-inch steel rims. The Trans Am’s tighter suspension was offered optionally. It consisted of 300 pounds/inch front and 126 pounds/inch springs in the rear, 1.250 inch stabilizer bar at the front, and fat .875 inch bar aft. Wider F60x 15 Polyglas tires mounted on 15 x 7 Rally II wheels without trim rings rounded out the package. Add the variable ratio power steering and power brakes and the Formula responded right now! to steering input and could dive deeper into corners and come out faster. Its only competition was big brother Trans Am and the Corvette.
Inside, the Formula’s instrument panel was faced in a wood grained appliqué. Optional was a Rally Gauge that placed an 8000-rpm tach in the left housing along with a small analog clock. In the smaller center housing was the engine temperature and oil pressure gauges. The right housing contained the 160mph speedometer with the smaller fuel gauge and voltmeter to the far right. Two consoles were offered, one between the front buckets that contained the transmission shifter, the other between the optional rear buckets.

Of the 7,708 Formula 400s produced in 1970, 2,777 were equipped with manual transmissions. Exactly 4,931 were fitted with the M40 automatic transmission. One of those M40 equipped Formulas is owned by Jack Nichols of Orlando, Fla. Jack performed a complete restoration on the Formula several years ago, bringing it back to correct factory standards. The Atoll Blue Formula is fitted with the optional Ram Air engine, open scoops and underhood induction system. Inside, the tan Morrokide interior features console, optional three-spoke Formula steering wheel with padded rim, Rally gauges and air conditioning.

Maserati MCXtrema: Track-Exclusive Hypercar Unveiled at Monterey Car Week 2024
Maserati’s Project24 hypercar, announced last year, is now officially called the MCXtrema. The 2024 Maserati MCXtrema is the latest hypercar from the Italian carmaker based on and built from the Maserati Brand Halo vehicle, the MC20 Coupe. It will be making its debut at Monterey Car Week 2023.
Tumblr media
The “MC” in MCXtrema stands for Maserati Corse, while “Extrema” means “Extreme” in Italian, symbolizing the legacy of the Maserati Corse taken to new heights. We’ve been shown renderings of the car over the past months, we have yet to see the 2024 Maserati hypercar MCXtrema in all its carbon glory. But if it stays true to the design, the car will be a highly modified MC20 with more wings and more scoops in a track-centric form.
No interior shots have been revealed, but the 2024 Maserati MCXtrema is expected to feature a motorsport-themed interior with a roll cage, carbon steering wheel with integrated display, six-point harness, and bucket seat. Buyers can also opt for a passenger seat and additional telemetry screens.

Under the hood, the 2024 Maserati hypercar MCXtrema has a tuned twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 730 hp routed through a six-speed sequential gearbox, a mechanical limited-slip differential, adjustable suspension setup, and stronger Brembo CCMR brakes. Track-only and non-homologated, the car will be restricted to private test sessions.
The 2024 Maserati MCXtrema, designed entirely by Centro Stile Maserati, will make its global debut at the Maserati press conference scheduled for 9:05-9:15 AM PT at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on Friday August 18th, during Monterey Car Week 2023. It will have a limited production run of only 62 vehicles, all of which has already been sold. For more information, please visit the

Maserati 5000 GT Frua
Each of the 34 examples of the Maserati 5000 GT is a storybook in its own right. The first of these exotic beasts was commissioned by the Shah of Persia (now Iran), who pined for a 450S (nine made, terminated when Maserati left racing). The road-going 3500 GT was too common to satisfy his highness but held promise if properly modified. The Shah paid Maserati to strengthen the chassis and suspension of a 3500 to accept a 4.9 liter V8 derived from the 450S. The body was built by Carrozzeria Touring, the car was painted dark blue, and the final result was shipped to the Shah. A second car was sent to South African millionaire Basil Read. Once the Shah purchased his car, other royals clamored for their own copies. Maserati increased the 5000’s engine displacement slightly, added fuel injection, and upgraded to a five-speed ZF transmission, sending several more cars to various coachbuilders (eight in all) at the behest of their celebrity buyers. These included Karim Aga Khan, Briggs Cunningham, and Gianni Agnelli. Here at Kidston is the first of three Frua-bodied Maserati 5000 GTs, a 1962 example. Initially painted gold, and swanned around to shows in Geneva, Paris, and Italy by the factory, it was finally repainted a deep metallic red in 1963, assigned a fresh chassis number, and sold as a new car.
Eventually, this example was given to King Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during his exile in Egypt – a gift from his son. King Saud was exiled from his exile (to Athens this time), and the car was impounded by the Egyptian government for decades. Sold a few times around the year 2000, the car was refurbished during a four-year period and shown in its original gold livery. Its most recent owner, preferring the ruby shade of its former life, had it repainted yet again, enjoyed it for ten years.
