I have a request, can I have one where Eddie and the reader is Eddie best friend, later on Eddie starts dating Chrissy but he doesn’t know that the reader likes him. The reader being sad and distant towards him though out the time.. Eddie being confused and mad at reader and thinking she is jealous, later on gets into argument with her doesn’t talk to the reader for a few weeks, very angst, for the end you make your own if you want fluff or angst. Thank you, I love your writing ❤️❤️❤️
a/n: i’m so excited for this i hope i did well though. 💔💔 did i lose my touch be honest 🙏🏻
you and eddie have been friends for god knows how long, ever since that day at recess, you’d been playing with this random toy you’d seen and he was quick to confront you, it was his!
after you ran off crying, he came to you and handed you the same toy.
‘jus quit crying! jeez you can have it!!’
ever since then, you’d been inseparable. you were around a year or two younger than him. so when he was held back in school, you were catching up to him which made you even closer than you already were
soon enough, you’d developed a crush on him. at first, it was harmless. maybe a little giggle here and there, a tiny thought in the back of your mind maybe once a week
i’d date him
but it was never anything to act upon, since you weren’t all that interested in him. until it just got worse and worse, and robin had quite the earful about it practically every day!
steve also heard about it a few times here and there since he was usually in the background stacking the shelves or so, but not the full story
you couldn’t help it though. he was so kind to you, he’d get you snacks n everything! you had a tradition, every friday night you buy a ton of snacks and watch a cheesy movie!
it was your thing.
he was so caring and loving to you that people generally thought you were dating until they got the unfortunate news
you were content with being only friends though, at least he still did quite a lot for you. up until that one day
that horrible day. where everything got ruined
you’d been walking with eddie around the school halls, talking, until he bumped into chrissy.
“oh my gosh i’m so sor…” she trails off as she looks at him
he smiles and grabs the things from the floor
“it’s all good pretty” he says and she’d suddenly opened a conversation, it was too awkward for you so you just went on to class, since you were obviously not gonna sit and watch them talk. which took like a year to finish, he didn’t even come to class!
what could’ve been so interesting he missed class to talk about.
it kept going on like this, he stopped sitting with you during break time, he’d walk her home, he’d miss classes for her, and you had held it all in up until he did it.
he did it.
you had been waiting for the past three hours at the supermarket so he could come, it was friday night, which meant it was time for your tradition.
he didn’t come, and you broke when, on your way home, you saw him and chrissy going into the movie theater, smiling as wide as possible.
he’d broken the 5 year long tradition…for her?
you went home sobbing, if anyone knew why, they’d think it would be a stupid reason, but it wasn’t. it truly hurt. he practically chose her over you.
you stopped trying to think positively after that, to just say, it’s fine! it’s just today! or—he didn’t mean to, maybe he forgot!
both steve and robin noticed it after you stopped talking about him so much, or even talking to him for that matter.
everytime he’d approach you, you’d mumble out some short response and leave. and he definitely noticed, even in the times where he does sit with you, you’d get up and leave.
it kept going on like this up until on your walk home, he grips your wrist and turns you, not harshly but firm enough to stop you.
you furrow your eyebrows as you look at him, expecting something
“well?” he says and you look around, confused
“what?”
“wh—what?? you’re asking what?? you’re not gonna explain why the hell you’ve been acting so weird?” he spits out, it was clear he’s had enough
you shrug, “weird how?” you question
“don’t bullshit me. you know exactly what i’m talking about! what the hell is going on with you!”
you laugh, as if he really had the right to ask that after how he’s been acting
“what’s going on with me? how about what’s going on with you, munson! you spit out, and he furrows his eyebrows, you’d never use his last name..
“you stop sitting with me at lunch, you miss classes just to see her, you barely ever see me! and—on top of all that—you miss our night. our night! the one we do every single week for the past five years and for what? chrissy? little princess of hawkins chrissy?”
he scoffs, “jesus christ—chrissy? that’s what this is about?!” he says and shakes his head
“yes it’s about chrissy! you barely even know her!”
“oh my god, i don’t think that’s any of your business! if youre so jealous because of how amazing she is just say that!”
“jealous? are you kidding me? that’s what you think this is? grow up, eddie!” you spit out
“it’s obviously jealousy! look at you! you see one girl that’s ten times better than you look my way and you go crazy!” he says and you pause, your heart clenched, how could he say that?
“what’s wrong with you? how could you even say that? i’ve been your best friend for—“
“don’t give me that bullshit! don’t play the victim! what is it, huh? because she’s popular? because she’s pretty? just admit you’re fucking obsessed! i don’t know how i ever even became friends with a freak like you”
your vision blurs, you don’t even say anything, you just turn and walk away, silently crying. who was this person?
eddie didn’t even bother to stay, he was quick to leave too. you walked into family video, robin wasn’t there, but steve was. and he was quick to notice your puffy red eyes, he rushed to you
“hey—hey hey peach.” he says softly and hugs you, and you breakdown in his arms, “woah woah—it’s okay…it’s okay” he rubs your back, trying to soothe you, “you wanna tell me what’s going on?”
you didn’t go to school for a couple of days, but when you did, you didn’t even bat an eye at eddie. who, in the meantime, was getting swallowed into a hole of utter guilt and shame.
he wasn’t even fully there when he was with chrissy, and in class, he’d stare at you the whole time. it went on like this for weeks, and eddie couldn’t take any more.
he didn’t even care about chrissy, and he’d realized your words were right and that she wasn’t really all that. how could be so blinded by her popularity and looks?
those weeks were hell, he’d truly realized how much he liked you, and how agonizingly painful it was to not be able to see you or talk to you at all.
so he dumped chrissy, and didn’t really feel anything. he picked up some flowers on the way and knocked on your door, this was it
you opened the door, surprised to see him, eddie noticed how pretty you look…and how he looked dead compared to you, he’s been suffering without you, you were too…right?
he calls your name and sighs, “i just…i wanted to explain myself—that day—i didn’t mean anything i said i swear to you. and—for chrissy—you were right. you were right about everything and it broke me when i stopped talking to y…” he trails off, his heart shattering at the sight of steve, in some boxers and no shirt, showing up from behind the door
you look away, and eddie didn’t speak, he just stays there, the anger building up.
“i’ll see you in a second baby okay?” you say and kiss steve before walking out and closing the door, and the look on eddie’s face got worse when you kissed steve
“wh—you’re dating him? you’re dating the king of hawkins?! that dipshit?!” he yells, how could you do this?!
wasn’t this ironic?
“what! jesus christ, this is about steve? really?” you mimic him, “if you’re so jealous about how amazing he is just say that” she says and smiles, walking away.
eddie mentally curses himself, she’d repeated the same words he said to her.
it was over. he’d lost his chance with the most amazing girl he’s ever met without realizing it.
that’s what he gets though

Based On My Dreams Series (MAIN LINE):
❝ Healing Trip ❞

start - thursday20022025
couple - bigbang(you decide who) x fem!reader
chapters summary - after your strong resistance against the abuse from your boyfriend's (now ex) family, you were suspended from school for a year, so what will you do during that forced break? of course, take a direct flight to korea to heal! lets see how lucky you will be with bigbang-boys!
note - chaotic, bad words, side characters, this post won't feature bigbang, but read on and make your choice at the end!, funny, quantum multiverse, alcohol
caption section - after reviewing and organizing more ideas for the plot, i decided to officially develop the Based On My Dreams Series into a long-form fanfic (when i say long, i mean it will have a more structured storyline). y/n is in the late twenties and about to enter their thirties, a third-year student majoring in film scriptwriting.
We’re always open to feedback and ideas to make the story better!

[ Before I could make sense of everything, my feet were already standing on his grave. ]
After reviewing the entire script draft for the short film, you sent it to senior H/n. Just thinking about it made you frustrated—why did you have to do his work for him? This was supposed to be his graduation project! Your head felt as hot as a furnace, yet you still had to sit in the library after your morning classes, rushing to finish his “problem.”
“That jerk…” you mumbled, slamming your laptop shut before quickly stacking up your books into a neat pile and dragging yourself out of the library.
Time flew by, and you were already close to completing your second semester of your third year in university. Just one more semester and another year, and you’d finally have that bachelor’s degree in your hands. Lost in your feverish state, you found yourself daydreaming about internships—completely unaware that the so-called "talented" senior you had just cursed was now striding towards you with an air of arrogance.
“Hey, y/n! Come here for a sec.” He waved a hand at you like an impatient boss calling over an employee just to scold them. Just great. You had only insulted him in your head a moment ago, and now he had appeared like a summoned ghost. With a deep sigh, you bit your lip and walked over.
"I really appreciate your help, but you should really reconsider $#%&—" He kept rambling, his words buzzing in your ears like an annoying fly. What was this? Was he actually complaining about a script that he got for free?
You were too stunned to speak. The only reason you put up with this lunatic was because he was your boyfriend’s older brother and the son of the head professor of your department.
Let’s see… He was the son of the department head but was still drowning in over ten failed courses, barely hanging onto his chance to graduate. And ever since you had visited your boyfriend’s house and discovered that both of you were in the same screenwriting major, more than half of his overdue assignments had magically ended up in your lap. Call you stupid if you guys want—at first, you thought dating someone from the same school would be nice. His mother was a well-respected professor, and surely his older brother must be talented too, right? Wrong. And now, your so-called “future brother-in-law” was acting like he was the professor and you were the clueless student, lecturing you in the middle of campus with no regard for your dignity.
"I am sorry, but I’m really exhausted. Can’t you see the fever patch on my foreh—" You weakly protested, carefully choosing your words to avoid bruising his ego, but H/n immediately cut you off, clicking his tongue and placing his hands on his hips.
"Y/n, if you’re going to do something, do it properly. You can’t use being sick as an excuse to hand in a script full of plot holes!"
You froze. Your face went blank, as if someone had just smacked you over the head with a hammer. You could only stare at this shameless man in disbelief.
"Hey, are y—" Just as you were about to snap back, your younger boyfriend suddenly appeared from afar, grinning as he approached. Without hesitation, he hugged you from behind and kissed your cheek.
"What are you two doing out here?"
Seeing your boyfriend felt like spotting a lifeline in the middle of an ocean. You turned around, ready to whine about your suffering, but before you could even speak, the brat jumped back in horror, shoving you away a few steps.
"Wait, you’re sick?! Hey, hey, don’t get me infected! I have an internship next week!" He hurriedly pulled a mask out of his pocket and put it on, while his brother scolded him for overreacting.
And then, just like that, he kept going. Your dear senior resumed his endless criticism of your script, delivering yet another long-winded lecture about character development and scene construction.
A childish boyfriend. A useless, arrogant brother-in-law. And you—sick to the point of collapse, with a very solid pile of books in your hands.
Yes. With a rage-induced fever clouding your mind like a drunken haze, you didn’t hesitate. You hurled the entire stack of books at that senior’s face, then grabbed the thickest one and jabbed it straight at your stupid boyfriend, who is gaping.
"GET THE HELL OUT OF MY SIGHT, YOU BASTARDS!!! ALL OF YOU, OUT! RIGHT NOW! F* OFF YOU MOTHER F******!!!!!!!!"

"That damn bastards….my gosh how can I know I’d break the library window! It’s all their fault! Huhuhu—" You wailed into your phone, sobbing so hard that your eyes were practically swelling shut.
On the other end of the call, your online best friend sighed. "So… what about your ‘future mother-in-law’?"
The mere mention of that woman made you cry even louder. "That witch! She only acted nice because she saw me as her eldest son’s academic lifeline! But the moment I broke their noses today, she went insane and demanded that the school expel me! Huhuhu—!"
Your friend let out a long, tired sigh. "So let me get this straight… You got suspended for a whole year just for assault and property damage? That’s kind of harsh. I’d say one semester at most." You sniffled. "No, no. Before that, I went to the academic office and reported that entire damn family—especially that bastard H/n—for forcing me to do his coursework."
"WHAT?!" Your friend shrieked in shock before bursting into laughter. Meanwhile, you grinned victoriously.
"Serves those assholes right."
You don't mind graduating a year late, you're a pretty good student after all—it's basically a gap year. But that asshole? His record's been erased. And his mom? Suspended for a whole semester. Ha!

"Why do you keep listening to those gay dudes all the time?"
A slipper flew straight toward the speaker—unfortunately, it missed. You've heard this comment enough times to no longer take it to heart, but you still had to put up some kind of resistance. Your older brother kicked your slipper further away—specifically, out onto the porch—before lazily walking over to the fridge to find something to snack on.
Meanwhile, you sat idly on the sofa, listening to your favorite music: K-pop.
It had been a long time since you last had the chance to relax like this. Ever since you got involved with that damn family, even your holidays were spent helping H/n.
So now, being able to unwind felt a bit unfamiliar. You started feeling like you had rested too much—your hands and feet were itching to do something.
"If you're so free, why don't you go out or get a job? Doesn't staying home bore you?" your brother asked, plopping down on the couch with a bag of snacks. He grabbed the remote and switched the TV to some streamer’s YouTube channel.
"HEY!" You grabbed your other slipper and threw it straight at his face—this time, it hit. After a brief scuffle, both of you lazily slumped back onto the couch.
"Getting a part-time job doesn’t sound too bad—"
Suddenly, your phone rang. It was your online best friend calling.
And with just one phone call, your plan to get a job turned into a healing trip abroad.

The room you rented was in an apartment complex located deep within a neighborhood already slated for redevelopment. Despite this, quite a few people still lived here. Most people—including your online best friend—found the place too cramped and bustling, but you actually liked it. Having lived with your parents and brother your whole life, you never had the chance to "coexist" with strangers like this. So even though you felt a bit uneasy, you valued this experience—it was something worth having!
Your online best friend picked you up from the airport and helped you find a short-term rental. (You had decided to stay for an extended period, given that you had an entire year of free time.) After finishing the move-in process, she immediately switched into tour guide mode and took you on an adventure through Seoul.
This was only the second time you two had met in real life—the first being when she visited your country for a trip. Now, it was your turn to visit hers. Twice was more than enough to erase any awkwardness. The two of you went all out, exploring every corner, from delicious street food to fun entertainment spots.
“Lucky for you, you know enough Korean to communicate, right?” she asked, biting into a strawberry tanghulu—the popular sugar-coated fruit snack often seen in TikTok dance videos. You nodded slightly, using your own candy stick to poke at the hardened sugar stuck on your molars before replying.
“Just a little. I’m definitely not fluent enough to compete with the locals.” You joked, recalling how, during your first meeting, she had been too flustered to even speak English properly.
Both of you had made an effort to learn each other’s native languages, but for the most part, you still communicated in English for convenience, occasionally throwing in phrases from the second language. So naturally, she reacted quickly to your teasing:
"야! 놀리지 마!! (Ya! Don’t tease me!!)”
She laughed awkwardly at her own outburst, making both of you burst into laughter. Your attention was then quickly stolen by a brightly lit bar nearby.
“Hey, I didn’t know Aven Star had a branch in Korea,” you remarked.
“Of course they do! They even invite artists over all the time. Wanna go in? Who knows, maybe you’ll run into one of your ‘husbands,’” she teased, nudging your shoulder.
You were about to agree instantly, but one glance at your outfit made you hesitate. “I can’t. I look like a complete mess right now.”
“Excuse me?! Stop acting like a pick-me girl! You look amazing, so get in there and have fun!”
Well, if that damn family knew you were out here vacationing and enjoying yourself, they’d be fuming. Just the thought of it made you relax a little more and confidently step inside.
The moment you entered, your ears were greeted by remixes of old-but-gold US-UK songs, refreshed with an upbeat twist that made them even catchier. The dim, flickering lights were adjusted just right—not harsh on the eyes—but the place was packed. That was typical for this bar. You never went bar-hopping much during your school days, but if you did, Aven Star was always your go-to. It was surreal that your favorite club had somehow followed you across the world, making your healing trip feel even more complete.
You quickly let yourself soak in the atmosphere while waiting for your best friend, who was busy flirting with the bartender (and ordering more drinks for both of you). The tension in your body gradually melted away, your shoulders feeling lighter by the second. It was hard to believe this trip was already working wonders—on just the first day.
Then, out of nowhere, a cold liquid spilled down the back of your neck, soaking your entire back. A sharp shiver ran up your spine, triggering an instant wave of shock and discomfort that shot straight to your brain, making you yelp. Luckily, the bar was noisy enough to drown out your outburst.
Spinning around, you searched for the culprit—and found yourself facing a guy dressed in a breezy, casual outfit. His face was undeniably Korean, but he wasn’t bad-looking at all. In fact, when combined with his overall aura, he looked…pretty cool!
His expression, however, was hilarious. Though the dim lighting made it hard to see clearly, his wide eyes, hand-over-mouth reaction, and panicked mumbling made it obvious he was apologizing and checking if you were okay.
You were in too good of a mood to get mad. You were about to say something, but then you spotted your best friend scanning the crowd for you. With no time to linger, you flashed the guy a quick grin, leaned in slightly, and said a few words before slipping through the dancing crowd to rejoin your friend.

OK SO HI AGAIN I have an idea for Reggie again (I am sorry if this is getting annoying please let me know and I will stop)
But I had a thought like were in the library or something and reader is reading with Reggie and then she blurts out a random nickname (idk what there called) but instead of it being cute like love or darling it something stupid like chicken nugget?? And then you can have Reggie’s reaction to it being like are you okay what was that??
ALSO PLEASE DO NOT FEEL PRESSURED TO WRITE ANY OF THESE AND TAKE YOUR TIME IF YOU NEED
Ok, this. But, I've decided to take some creative liberty and change the nickname to
😚🦄💖 Babygirl 💖🦄😚
Thank you.
Regulus Black x gn!Reader
A/n: This one's a little short. But, that's okay. Y'all already know, requests are open

You loved spending your afternoons like this.
Cooped up in the library, studying with Regulus. It was nice, quiet, sweet. Plus, knowing you'd get to spend time with Regulus while studying was good motivation to actually do it.
The two of you sat next to each other at a table in the corner of the large library. You were working on a Herbology essay you had to turn in tomorrow while he read about some boring old wizard for his history of magic class.
A few textbooks were stacked on top of each other beside you, some were for you and some were for Regulus. You were in the middle of writing when Regulus spoke.
"Could you pass me that textbook that's on the top of the stack?" He whispered.
You looked up from your parchment and smiled at him.
"Anything for you, babygirl."
...
Oh my God, why would you say that?
You and your friends had all developed a habit of jokingly calling each other "babygirl", because... Well, because you all thought it was funny.
But, that was an inside joke reserved for your friends. You never intended on calling your boyfriend babygirl.
And yet, you just did. And now he was looking at you with a look of bewilderment.
"What?" Regulus managed.
"Uh-" There was no way to go but down. "Anything for you, babygirl." You repeated.
He paused, just looking at you with that same look of bewilderment for a moment and then snickered. Not long after it had turned into a full on laughing fit. His head was down and his hand covered his mouth as he tried to stifle his laughter. You couldn't help but quietly laugh with him.
"That was so stupid." You said, covering your face with your hands in embarrassment.
"Yeah, I can't argue with that." He said as he finally stopped laughing. "Why did you-"
"I really don't know." You chuckled, uncovering your face to see his amused grin. "It slipped out."
"It slipped out?" He repeated. "Is that how you refer to me internally? Was that something you'd just been holding in?" He said through quiet laughter.
"No! That not what I meant. I just-" You ran a hand down your face. "It's a dumb joke I have with my friends. I didn't mean to-"
"Call me your 'babygirl'?" He finished in a teasing tone.
You blushed. "Yes." You shook your head. "That was so dumb. I can't believe I said that."
"Still not the worst nickname I've ever been called." He shrugged.
You tilted your head. "Really? What's the worst one, then?"
"Barty once called me his pookie bear, and I-"
You let out a loud laugh, quickly covering your mouth as Madam Pince shushed you. Regulus quietly chuckled along with you. "Pookie bear is definitely worse than babygirl." He stated.
"That's fair." You agreed.
There was a brief pause in which you both got all of your laughter out. Regulus sighed and spoke up again. "I still need that textbook."
"Right. Of course." You grabbed the textbook he needed and handed it to him.
"Thanks."
You smirked. "Anything for you, babygirl."

Why are anarchists against hierarchy?
Why exactly is hierarchy bad?
dot
To the extent that hierarchy is bad (there is a question of semantics here—see below), it’s because it encourages (or forces) people into situations where they feel (or are) not responsible for their own lives and actions. The military is full of extreme examples of people doing things that ruin the rest of their lives because they were ordered to (not just by their commanding officer, but by an entire social system that a) tells them they should be ordered, and b) forces them into situations like the military to be able to survive).
Some people don’t put the issue in hierarchy, but in domination, and argue that some amount of hierarchy is not a problem, as long as it’s not institutionalized... Like, it’s ok if people pay more attention to you when regarding something that you’re known to be good at. The problem, for example, comes when you get to start making people do things.
I think the valid critique that people bring to this ques- tion is that of relationship, and the idea that we are all in some kind of hierarchical relationship all the time (a la Foucault), that power flows between people all the time, and that to resist hierarchy is to resist relationships... So the issue becomes one of context and degree, rather than simply a binary one.
law
If I may, I would alter your question to read: Why is hierarchy considered to be detrimental to the positive principles of anarchism like mutual aid, direct action, and voluntary cooperation? With a simple understanding of what those principles are and what they look like, the question almost answers itself.
I would wholeheartedly agree with dot that it’s a question of the institutionalization of hierarchy rather than hierarchy itself that is the problem, so a better way of discussing this issue is to call the problem domination—or if you’re feeling philosophical, call it Herrschaft, because all the really heavy philosophical shit sounds especially heavy in German.
alc
I imagine a “hierarchy” in a simplified sense as a pyramid where each individual exists as a block in the structure: the closer your block’s position to the top, the less pressure you feel upon yourself and the more pressure you put on others. The pressure symbolizes authority. So this highly unequal distribution of force predictably breeds institutionalized privilege, envy, and competition for dominance, at bare minimum because of a want to escape the pressure. It seems like the privilege and envy,
Now, beyond just intentions, and the way that power corrupts, we can emphasize the consequences of structures of hierarchical control, how they create incentives toward exploitation and obstacles toward accountability, and how such systems by definition entail finite positions of superior privilege and inferior classes held in subordination. Power hierarchies mean that those most allowed to change the status quo have the most investment in preserving it—their power, prestige, profit, etc. rely upon the disempowered not taking back their usurped initiative. Oftentimes even the mildest managerialism snowballs away from accountability and toward authoritarianism through “emergency” justifications that never roll back.
Systems that allow for and emphasize the role of hierarchical power have totalitarian tendencies. They have pyramidal structures, stacked ranks, centralized power, vertical organization. Their officials give commands supported by threats. This creates a delicate stability through a shared fear of repression.
In this spirit, their decision-making tends to utilize massive restriction and coercion, representation, assimilation, and manipulation by force or by fraud.
They develop impersonal bureaucracy, standardiza-tion, and conformity. But other and contrary types of relations and organizing exist, such as collaborative self-determination between peers, the kind that anarchists propose.
Power hierarchies undermine communication. Hag-bard’s Law shows that in a truly pyramidal structure, where authority figures create order through threats, subordinates tend to tell their superiors merely what hierarchy the superiors want to hear. This filtering multiplies to the degree of verticality, by each level of mediation in that structure. Those at the top therefore lose connection from the reality below them. The (mis)information the authorities receive appeals to their confirmation bias (the things they want to hear), resulting in misguided intentions cloaked in truth, shielded by mistaken confidence, and armed with monopoly, allowing for no opposition. And so, because of the one-way decision-making and the filtered awareness, if those at the top of the pyramid actually made a deliberate attempt to represent the subordinates, they would tend toward a misrepresentation made invisible to themselves.
If people possess the critical thinking and character assessment skills to recognize in an authority the ways to lead competent, benevolent lives, why must we have to delegate this capacity outside of ourselves? Why do we need them to run our lives if we can tell how our lives should be run? And however will the disempowered find freedom, if in each instance where authoritarians act on behalf of the disempowered, to shape or shield or crush them, the will of the disempowered continually atrophies from lack of exercise? How else will the disempowered find freedom, if not in seizing the direction of their own lives, the very act that the authoritarians deny them? Stratification of power only exacerbates the predicament. We alone experience the peculiar circumstances of our situation. We alone bear the history of our aspirations and sorrows, our passions and eccentricities, our capacities and limitations.
Our lived experience grants us more qualification at determining our path than any speculating manager could ever dream of. Further empowered by collaboration with one’s peers, people can experience authentic freedom, and not the sad farce of begging those in power for mercy.
People may voluntarily seek for themselves a leader to guide them, but when they deny others the ability to live autonomously, it results in nothing but tyranny, no matter how many smily faces the tyranny hides behind. Those of us who by conscience refuse systems of hierarchical power will not voluntarily choose hierarchy to opt-in and cannot opt-out without severe punishment. Those in power promise us the world but by design they must keep our lives out of our own hands, and regardless of whether or not they make decisions I would endorse—which they don’t—I find the method irreconcilable with my conscience and my aspirations. And that is the inequality and the abusiveness of the “power” I refer to, that is the mechanics intrinsic to hierarchal order.

Dangancember 2024 - Danganronpa Top 24 Class Trials - Number 14: Danganronpa Another 2 Case 4
//Even though this may spoil the higher rankings of the list a little bit, I don't think it's a secret to anybody that in pretty much all the games in both the Danganronpa and Another series, Chapter 4 and the case that comes along with it is normally where the game absolutely peaks.
//It feels like once you get past the bullshit that Chapter 3 is, and start to slowly transition into the endgame, the trial that comes after it is designed to establish the emotional mood going into the final few chapters, and as such, it's probably the most critical point in the entire game.
//Which means 9 times out of 10, or rather, in this case, 4 times out of 5, the class trial in Chapter 4 is above and beyond the absolute best the game has to offer in terms of mystery, emotional impact, and everything else that makes the trials great.
//The reason I preface this now is because despite the fact that Case 4 of Another 2 just so happens to be the 5th time out of 5 where it really doesn't reach the same level as those other cases, it still retains its stance as a very decent trial, full of a lot of emotions. It's not nearly as emotionally impactful to me as A-2, and I definitely like the story of that trial a lot more than this one, but I like this trial more because it's a far more engaging mystery without seeming pretentious or dragged out.
//However, the short reason why Another 2's 4th trial falls so low compared to the others is that it does a few of these things wrong.
//I'll admit, I am pretty wishy-washy on this case. Originally I had it in 12th place, but upon reflection, I realized that I actually have way more problems with this trial than I do the opening and ending trial of this game, so I had to move it down.
//And trust me, I did so with a relatively heavy heart.
//Also, a quick warning, this so far is one of my longest analyses, because positive or negative, this chapter is just stacked with content, and there's so much to say about it.
//As I mentioned already, the main thing that 1-4, 2-4, V3-4, and A-4 have in common is that the emotions that they instill among the cast are CRITICAL to the final few chapters of the respective games.
//Game 1, 2, and Another 1 do this in a positive way. The sacrifices of Sakura, Gundham and Nekomaru, and Haru and Satsuki are the most important point of character development for the cast as a whole. At the time their crimes happen, its normally when the group hits rock bottom. Either because everyone is extremely tense around each other following revelations; or being trapped in a location with very limited resources that are making relations kind of tense.
//V3-4 is kind of the reverse. The mood is pretty upbeat throughout most of Chapter 4, mainly because Himiko is now starting to be more open, and it really does feel like the sense of cameraderie is starting to get somewhere, only for Trial 4, and Kokichi's Uno Reverse Card on Miu that also gets Gonta killed to completely SHATTER that.
//But in the case of Another 2's 4th chapter, the mood is already at a low point thanks to the bullshit Kanade achieved in Chapter 3, and this chapter doesn't fix it. It makes it WORSE.
//And if that's not LINUJ's way of writing in a nutshell, I don't know what is.
//Granted, I'm not AGAINST this kind of subversion of expectations. The fact that it was written this way is honestly kind of clever.
//Kanade's betrayal of the group, and the fact that even putting the VOID's aside, we cannot know the true nature of any of these people being reinforced, made it so that whatever structure there was in the group was severely fractured and on its last legs. Then Case 4 kicked those last legs out from underneath it.
//And it didn't feel forced. There were a LOT of aspects that went into how the group ultimately crumbled apart here. So ultimately, I think it was written well.
//Mostly...
//Because while I do think the progression is cool, some of the things that happen to get to that point tick me off.
//We've mentioned this before, but though I do think LINUJ is a good writer, I seriously don't think in retrospect that any of his work actually matches the greatness that Kodaka was able to achieve. At least not wholesale. But this is largely because of his personal way of belief being incorporated into his work.
//I've learned since that this may be due to the social climate in the part of the world where LINUJ is from, but the belief that LINUJ carries with him is that people don't change so easily from their way of life. Positive people can stay positive, but those who are negatively aligned don't always change their ways after inciting incidents. Which ultimately makes his character writing very negative.
//This is the point where I really want to talk about that because this is where that reaches CRITICAL MAX for this series.
//Because my overall biggest issue is that almost every character in this trial IS! A! DICK!!!!!!
//INCLUDING THE PROTAGONIST!
//Now, I need to really shed my thoughts and opinions on the way LINUJ carries this belief through his characters and how it actually affects me. In general, it does spoil my enjoyment of the Another series characters quite a bit, but at the same time, I can't really argue against it.
//There is some element of truth to the way LINUJ portrays this. There are just some people out in the world, as sad as this is to think about, who are BAD people. There are many people who just have no redeeming qualities to them, live their lives by being horrible or selfish towards others, and they don't change so easily.
//Take what I was saying about Mitch in Another 1. Mitch has almost nothing good about him. Not only is he the first killer, but his motives are insanely selfish and unsympathetic, and he seemed almost genetically engineered to be a piece of shit.
//But I don't mind that because the truth is not everybody IS sympathetic. Some people are willing to take lives and do unspeakable things for their own self benefit. It's part of human nature and is a fact of life.
//The notion that we expect some of these inherently bad characters to change their ways through the experiences they go through is, to be completely honest, a little bit of wishful thinking.
//But what is also a fact of life is that people CAN change.
//If people didn't change, character development in media wouldn't be a concept, period. And it's not like LINUJ doesn't understand this, because some of his characters DO grow throughout their experiences in the Killing Game.
//The two best examples I can think of are Akane Taira and Rei Mekaru. They both start to open up more as the game progresses and have real character arcs that make them worthy members of the cast. Even Akane's Mastermind reveal doesn't change this, because she ultimately turns tail on Utsuro and her ideals and sacrifices herself to save the others.
//And that is retained when she makes some physical appearances in SDRA2. She's extremely cynical in the final trial of Another 2, but there's still elements of a sweetheart there.
//However, I feel the need to point out that the vast majority of those characters are from Another 1, not Another 2. The characters in Another 2...honestly don't really change much from how they're introduced.
//And when they do, it's usually for the worse. And as I said, this trial is where I really started to realize that these people are actually not developing, they're regressing as the game goes on.
//So I don't really know what inciting incident happened between the creation of Another 1 and 2, but whatever it was that caused LINUJ to think this way, I feel sorry for him.
//With that being said, while I don't completely disagree with the way LINUJ portrays this type of human nature, I DO disagree with the way he HANDLES it.
//Take what I was saying about Kizuna Tomori in my review of A-2. My big issue with the way that she was handled is that LINUJ spent a lot of time building up the grounds for a potential development arc, in a very similar way to how Kodaka did so with Hiyoko in Chapter 3 of DR2.
//The difference though is that Hiyoko's arc was cut short by the fact that she died, which is something that she didn't have control over in-universe. Kizuna's was cut short because she straight up didn't want to go through with it, and chose to remain a horrible person.
//It just feels really unrealistic to me that there could be so much stimuli to better Kizuna's mindset, and maybe make her think twice about what was going on, and yet it all just gets wasted.
//But Kizuna is a very minor bad because this ultimately blows up in her face in a catastrophic way, and the way that she tries to protect Akane in the end...KIND of makes it better.
//I cannot say the same...about Nikei...
//I don't ever talk about Nikei Yomiuri on this blog. Like, I actively AVOID talking about him, largely because he's never actually appeared here.
//But in the past, when I have mentioned him, all of you who read those messages probably know this...But my God...
//I
//DESPISE!
//This man!
//Largely the reason why I dislike Nikei mainly has to be because of his fanbase, which is...frighteningly large, actually.
//He's one of the highest-rated Danganronpa Another characters, and his fanbase is among the biggest group of people than most of the others, full of people constantly trying to psychoanalyse him or even defend his actions.
//Guys, trust me, he's NOT that deep. He's JUST a PIECE OF SHIT, and that's clearly all LINUJ ever wanted him to be, and all he will ever be.
//I'm 95% sure that if you asked LINUJ himself to confirm that, he would agree with me.
//Even post-trial when we first see Nikei in VOID theater, he's so unsympathetic and cruel to even his own teammates, despite the fact that Emma and Hajime still treat him nicely. He's just a conniving d-bag, and little more than that.
//He goes through an entire character arc in this chapter, making it seem like he's betraying Mikado and VOID, and goes on to reveal so many important info bits about what's actually going on, and you think this might be the point where things start to turn around.
//Nikei would have been the PERFECT catalyst for not only the tide of change, but a survivor of the Killing Game in that instance, but...
//No. No, LINUJ just doesn't allow it.
//And not only does Nikei turn out to be disingenuous, doing everything he did for his own benefit and no one else's, but he's probably the most disingenuous and nasty character in this game barring only Mikado.
//Also...why are some of you guys out here shipping those two again? Do you...have a working brain?
//Okay, sorry, that's a bit mean, but please 'splain yoselves...
//In general, this rampant character regression that's apparent in a lot of LINUJ's modern characters like Nikei, and the fact that he retains the stance that they can't change from being absolute pieces of shit, is proof enough that he doesn't quite understand what kind of people the Danganronpa audience are.
//What's even more unfortunate is that the negative character development doesn't stop at Nikei. The other characters overall recieve it to the point that the only character in this chapter that I found...somewhat redeemable, was Yoruko, and Yoruko alone.
//And even then, she still didn't get off scot-free.
//But I kind of already mentioned that one of the other characters who suffers from this is Sora, and that really pains me to admit, because as you guys already know...
//I REALLY LIKE Sora!
//My feelings on the way Sora is handled here are...generally mixed. However, for now, I want to go over the parts I find negative, because I want to save the positive parts for after this rant.
//To make it quick though, because I really don't like badmouthing Sora, I do agree with people that this is definitely her lowest point, even if it does make sense upon reflection.
//Basically, the point that I'm talking about here is that this whole thing starts off when Yuki accidentally cuts Shinji's throat, and had Shinji died from that, it would have made Yuki the blackened.
//Sora manages to prevent this by slitting Shinji's throat herself, but doing so with Nikei's hand so that HE becomes the killer...kind of.
//I'm just gonna call bullshit on this, because this is actually the single only point in the whole game where I actually agree with Nikei. Nikei was unconscious, and Sora used his hand as a weapon. And yet somehow, that makes NIKEI the fucking killer.
//I think it's really scummy of Sora to do this, as well as the fact that she SEEMS to be guilty over it, but...let's be real, she's not even slightly broken up over it afterwards. The only way this comes back to bite her afterwards is this REALLY hurts her established relationship with Yoruko.
//She doesn't ever show any real empathy for the situation she put Nikei in, but more to the point, she doesn't show much sympathy for Shinji OR Yuki either, despite the fact that this whole operation of hers was for his sake.
//And I want to point one thing out before people start having a go at me here. Yes, I know that this whole case was ultimately set up by Nikei, and that the trial ends with him dying anyway. I KNOW that he's the scumbag responsible for everything that went down here; so this was just well-deserved karma.
//But the fact is that Sora DIDN'T! Not at the time she actually made Nikei a scapegoat at least. She knew he was a VOID, but as far as she was concerned, Nikei was betraying his own organization.
//Also, we find out later that the reason why Sora did this is because her AI is specifically programmed to keep Yuki alive, in the same vein that Akane Taira would have sacrificed herself for Utsuro. It's why Sora takes Syobai's stab in the prologue when it was specifically aimed at Yuki.
//However, while that was a self-sacrifice that Sora did in the moment, it still proves that she's willing to lay down her own life and safety to protect Yuki's.
//She made the consciensous decision to sacrifice Nikei here. So it's very hard to defend her actions.
//Sad as it is to say, Nikei makes a great point when Sora tries to apologize for her actions, and justify them as her making a worthy sacrifice. If she had honestly believed Nikei's words that dying in the game means they don't die for real, why didn't she just take the shard of glass and cut Shinji's throat herself? Or alternatively, take the gun Nikei had on him and shoot him?
//Divine Luck is the only explanation I can think of.
//Had she stuck around enough to observe Nikei setting the whole thing up, tazing himself, and THEN seeing Yuki stab Shinji and run away, it would have made more sense. But as it stands, despite the fact that Sora has already proven to be more self-righteous and unsympathetic towards people than the other protagonists in the series have, this is kind of a new low.
//If anything, the way that that situation looked to Sora, it would have looked like Nikei was collateral damage. There was no reason for her to suspect that he might have had something to do with it. Which proves that if it means protecting Yuki and herself, Sora is willing to sacrifice literally anybody else's lives in this killing game.
//Which REALLY takes away from her role as a hero. Even if we attribute this to the Akane Taira side of herself, that still doesn't make sense because even Ultimate Despair Akane Taira wasn't THIS egomaniacal.
//And when I recently looked at reviews of this game online, a few standout ones did mention that this was the point where, for them, this game started to really fall off. Because Sora was just so unsympathetic and cruel in this moment.
//As one final note, and one final critique of this trial, as I've said before, the big selling point of the Another series is what it does differently than the original series. Because most of the time, when it deviates from the preconcieved points of the main series, it does so in a really good way.
//Which is why it kind of disappointed me to find out that the chapter's victim was Shinji. Not only is he the big guy, and literally the big guy dies in every fourth Chapter of these games, whether they're a killer or a victim, but he was raising so many death flags this chapter to the point that when we found his body, it was HOW he died that shocked me, not the fact that Shinji himself had died.
//Ironically, the only trademark "big guy" who didn't die in Chapter 4 is Kakeru from the previous game. But he still died a chapter earlier.
//Man, these big muscular characters really suck at living through these killing games, don't they?
//I'm a little worried because now that I think about it, a lot of what I've just talked about REALLY gives off that I have an overly negative opinion of this trial. I really went all out talking about my issues with this whole chapter. But I do still like it quite a bit, and while it's far and away the worst of the fourth cases, as I said already, it still holds up.
//If you really think about it, most of my major issues with this chapter and this trial fall under the same umbrella of LINUJ's bad characterization and writing. But the big reason I still like this is because of the story elements of this chapter, and how creative they get.
//There are ups and downs to it, obviously, as I've already made it clear, but what sets this chapter apart from the rest of the game is how full of engaging twists and turns it is.
//The only other chapter in the game that had more twists than this one was Chapter 3, and as I've already made clear, the twists that we see in that chapter are uninteresting at best, and stupid, contrived, and nonsensical at worst.
//Most of the twists that happen in this chapter are fun. It all revolves around the idea of the students being trapped in an isolated environment with very limited resources again, and unfortunately, the Tower of Babel isn't as interesting as the Ballroom in Another 1, and DEFINITELY nowhere near as fun as the Funhouse in 2. But it's still an interesting setup and lots of cool stuff happens there, and throughout the chapter itself.
//The first one is Nikei's VOID reveal.
//The only issue with this it...kind of felt obvious. Nikei was probably the most predictable member of VOID in this game compared to the others. However, predictable twists can be implimented well when they're EXECUTED in a cool way.
//I'm gonna give an example of something that I felt similarly about, but it's also major spoilers for the newer episodes of My Hero Academia, so skip to when the text stops being inverted if you don't want to be spoiled on that.
//One situation that I felt did this well was the reveal in My Hero Academia that Dabi was actually Touya Todoroki. Shoto's older brother, and Endeavor's estranged and presumed-to-be-dead son who betrayed his family and went back on society after the neglect he suffered in favor of Shoto's power.
//Quite literally from the moment that Dabi was introduced, and the fact that he didn't reveal his real name or origins to Shigaraki and the villains, everybody guessed immediately that this was going to be the case.
//It was SO OBVIOUS from beginning to end.
//However, when Dabi does finally reveal himself, the scene itself, and the Todoroki family's reaction to it is damn priceless.
//Throughout My Hero Academia, the Todoroki family’s trauma is a central theme, with Endeavor’s abusive pursuit of creating a perfect hero leaving a trail of scars on his whole family, not just Shoto. Therefore, Dabi’s identity ties these personal stakes to the larger conflict between heroes and villains. His transformation from Touya into Dabi epitomized the devastating consequences of Endeavor’s obsession with power and his failure to protect his family.
//That's why the twist ends up being so good, despite it being really obvious. This emotional weight gave the reveal significance beyond its predictability, forcing characters and viewers alike to confront the ripple effects of past mistakes and the pain they left behind.
//Moreover, the reveal was impactful because of Dabi’s theatrical, calculated delivery, which weaponized the truth for maximum devastation. Dabi didn’t just expose himself to Endeavor, Shoto, and the rest of his family; he broadcasted his identity to the WORLD, shattering Endeavor’s public image as the new Symbol of Peace INSTANTANEOUSLY.
//If that's not a power move, I don't know the definition anymore.
//By combining his personal vendetta with the League of Villains’ broader agenda to undermine hero society, Dabi turned a familial tragedy into a public reckoning. This dual-layered impact, both personal and societal, elevated the moment from a simple plot twist to a turning point that reshaped the narrative.
//Okay, spoilers are over.
//My point is that Nikei revealing himself to be a VOID, despite how much I really come to hate Nikei by the end of this, is similarly impactful and well-delivered.
//Largely because, unlike Hajime and Emma, who already managed to commit crimes before they were outed as members, Nikei outs HIMSELF!
//He does it as a means of getting back at Mikado, rightfully so given how Mikado has already manipulated his group and reigned over them with an iron fist, but frankly, it didn't make sense to me why any of the VOID's would still work with Mikado after Makunouchi got executed. Or rather, I didn't get why Nikei and Emma did, because I can believe that Iroha would swear loyalty through fear.
//To have a traitor among the members of VOID was, to be frank, a really interesting plot development and a cool idea for the story in general.
//As I said already, the very fact that Nikei's VOID reveal went like this instead of the typical way is what saves this whole moment for me, because again, personally, he was the most obvious villain in this game for me. But the fact that when he finally comes out about it, and declares that he's BETRAYING his organization, and revealing himself is strangely gratifying, and a well-deserved kick to the balls for Mikado.
//It's a really cool scene for Nikei to apologize for his actions and give all the information he had about VOID, including how he used to be the leader before Mikado usurped him. It was moving, and this is largely why it pisses me off so much that he turned out to just be full of shit and playing to everybody's emotions.
//Nikei is the worst character in Another 2 in my opinion, but the reason why that's so sad is because this could have very easily made him the absolute best. LINUJ just fumbled the bag, not just massively, but intentionally.
//Twist Number 2: Teruya's totalitarian methodology.
//The next point I want to talk about is Teruya. Because this is a similarly great moment for me, despite the negativity behind it.
//I talked about this a little when I reviewed A2-5, but one thing I brought up is how Teruya's characterization in the later parts of the game really begin to reflect off of Tsurugi's attitude as we've already seen it in Another 1. This is the chapter where that really starts happening, and from what I can see, the general consensus is that people really don't like this.
//And to be honest, I don't either. I generally think being influenced by Tsurugi is a bad idea for ANYONE.
//Ultimately, the reason why Teruya went crazy with the gun is because Nikei told him to get it so he would turn out to look like the bad guy, which was a big part of his plan. However, the issue isn't that. The issue is that the gun and the change in plans came out just...super suddenly.
//It would have made more sense had Teruya gone more subtle about it. Maybe talking about his plan first, then adopting the heavy-handed approach if and when people started to disagree with it.
//Especially since it's weird to me that Teruya didn't try to argue an alternative with Nikei. Teruya's not only too kind for this, but he's had a few years to emotionally mature since Another 1, and he doesn't typically come off as this dumb in the rest of Another 2. Plus, no one had done anything to really provoke Teruya prior to this point, so it was unexpected, but not very well-handled.
//While I do generally agree with these points, I do have to defend this moment a little bit, because in a cosmic sort of way, it does make some sense. Largely because of a scene that was shown in this chapter that does explain it.
//It all comes down to one singular point in Teruya's life that stuck with him forever: Chapter 4 of Another 1.
//In the Utsuroshima killing game, Teruya had his memories sealed away like the rest of the group. However, one thing that becomes clear here is that his emotions are still there, and they resonate with him once he recieves some stimuli.
//In this particular case, he finds golden statues of Haruhiko Kobashikawa, and Satsuki Iranami. And upon seeing them, he starts crying.
//I generally cannot stress enough how goddamn TRAUMATIC Haru and Satsuki's deaths were for Teruya. When they both died, they were at odds with each other, and he never quite got the chance to make amends or show his guilt before they did.
//And what's even more vital to keep in mind is that the situation under which they were at odds is SHOCKINGLY similar to the Tower of Babel situation in SDRA2. In Another 1, Teruya and Haru were fighting each other because the other kept stealing food for themselves, and also blaming the other.
//And now they're stuck in an almost identical situation, so what does he do?
//Even if he didn't know why, Teruya would probably be freaking out, and as we've seen, he tends to take any option he can if it means that he and his friends can survive. So he adopts a very similar psychopathic stance as Tsurugi did in that chapter here.
//Twist Number 3: Sora falling off the tower, and protag switching to Syobai.
//I love protag switches in these games, since they're almost always peak moments (V3-6 notwithstanding), in any Dangan or Fangan. And this situation was super fun upon reflection.
//I'm not gonna spend too long on this one, because I can just say it was cool and be done with it. Not the biggest Syobai fan if I'm being honest, but switching to him and seeing the stuff happen from his perspective was pretty insightful and entertaining.
//Twist Number 4: Sora sacrificing Nikei.
//I already talked about this point and how I do find fault with it, but now I want to talk about why I actually do really like this twist.
//The fact that Sora DID do this is just generally super shocking, and again, as I've said many times before, it's different from anything we've seen before, and that's what makes it great.
//The characters in Danganronpa that I consider to be protagonists are Makoto, Hajime, Shuichi, Kaede, Komaru, Toko, Yuki, and Sora. And of all those people, the closest one we've ever had to one of them committing any kind of crime is Kaede.
//Yet in the end, though she was executed, it was only an attempted murder, and done out of consideration for everyone other than herself. That is not the case for Sora, and I think it is really refreshing to have a main character show this kind of weakness in a killing game.
//Hajime and Yuki did almost commit a crime in Chapter 4 of DR2 and Another 1 respectively, but Chiaki and Tsurugi ultimately stopped them, and we all knew that they would never do it anyway.
//Now, upon reflection, we know now that the reason why Sora did this is because she was programmed to protect Yuki from harm. So she likely did this without realizing it. But that doesn't stop it from being shocking in the moment.
//As I said already, Sora is never established to be an all-loving hero like how Makoto or the other DR protagonists were. But up until this point, she's still established as a morally ambiguous, yet inherently good character, someone the audience can trust to solve mysteries and navigate the group through tense situations.
//But Sora's decision to take such dramatic and deliberate action here calls into question someone's preconcieved perception of her character and causes them to reconsider her moral compass. This maneuver emphasizes the Danganronpa series' central theme of survival vs morality, demonstrating how even the protagonist can be forced to violate their ideals in order to protect someone they care about.
//And again, yeah, we already kind of saw that with Kaede, but moreover, the twist works exceptionally well because of the clever manipulation of Nikei's own scheme.
//Nikei’s initial plan to turn Yuki into the blackened and orchestrate the events of the trial to ruin Mikado's ultimate plan paints him as the quintessential schemer. So when Sora uses his unconscious hand to incriminate him, it creates poetic irony; the manipulator becomes the manipulated.
//Just in general, the fact that we see Sora’s ingenuity and resourcefulness being used to cross ethical boundaries adds an unpredictable edge to her character arc. And it's largely a reason WHY she's my favourite MC, despite the personal issues I have with this.
//The twist also heightens the stakes for the trial itself. With Sora framing Nikei, the trial becomes a battle of wits between all parties, and makes the case not just about solving a murder but also about how far each character is willing to go to achieve their goals. It transforms the trial into an emotionally charged and morally gray conflict, because hardly ANYBODY is right in this situation.
//As a quick side note, one thing I really do like that is kind of subtle and not really drawn attention to is the fact that Nikei's podium is positioned right next to Sora's. So when he was going on that tirade, she was getting full blast of it, and I think that's extremely fun.
//And the great irony is how this plays into the final twist, because it shows the only innocent one here...is the victim.
//Twist 5 is the truth behind what actually happened. Shinji's suicide.
//Now, I feel the need to bring up that this is only the second time in any of these games that we've seen someone kill themselves instead of anyone else. And in general, Fanganronpa's don't always typically bring up the suicide route other than as a possibility.
//But it's easy to see why this is. Sakura's sacrifice in Chapter 4 of DR1 was so perfect, that topping it in terms of the emotional impact and the circumstances surrounding it is near impossible.
//In fact, I'm fairly sure that's the same reason why Danganronpa's MAIN series has only done the suicide once. Sakura set a benchmark that just could not be jumped, even if they tried.
//And Shinji's case certainly doesn't, but it's still impactful in its own way.
//There are, arguably, a lot of similarities between Sakura's suicide and Shinji's suicide:
The obvious fact is that both of them are the trademark big character with a heart of gold who seemed untouchable. Their big size and big voice made them appear intimidating, but they are actually the most sweethearted student of the bunch.
Both of them fell into these situations because of suspicions surrounding them. Sakura was outed as a spy by Monokuma, while Nikei made everyone suspect Shinji might be a traitor too.
Sakura and Shinji both got attacked by two seperate people before they decided to end their own lives. Sakura was attacked by Hiro, and then Toko, while Shinji was attacked by Yuki, then Sora with Nikei's hand.
The reason they killed themselves is mainly so they could protect the relationships and the lives of the other students, particularly one student that they had formed a strong bond with (Hina and Yuki respectively)
//However, despite all these points of commonality, the case is different enough so that Shinji's actions stand on their own merits. And I am ultimately glad that LINUJ brought the suicide case idea back.
//Obviously, I'm not HAPPY that Shinji killed himself; don't get that twisted. I'm just glad that somebody else took a crack at it, and it was done in a way that was meaningful and emotional, just as Sakura's was.
//It also isn't as predictable as it might sound. Upon reflection, knowing what kind of character that Shinji was, this was probably the only way he could go out that would have been meaningful enough for him, but that doesn't make the situation any less heartbreaking.
//The difference between Shinji and Kakeru in the Another series is that Kakeru was not as integral to anybody's character arcs as Shinji was to Yuki's. Had they switched places, it wouldn't have meant as much, but as things stand out, this is what really reinforced my respect for Shinji as a character, and what really marked the end times for this game.
//Because if you think about it, Shinji was the last innocent man standing on this island.
//Mikado is, obviously, the mastermind, Nikei staged this whole crime and is a member of VOID, as is Iroha, Yuki and Sora both stabbed him, and Syobai is...well...Syobai. Yoruko is almost an exception, but she's also not as sweet as one might think, as shown in Chapter 5.
//The last twist I want to go over is what happens with Nikei's death after all of this.
//Even though this was a suicide, this trial still ends with an execution, and it's the first chance we get to see a true villainous side to Mikado prior to the shit he pulls in A2-5.
//I have mixed feelings about this twist considering what it implicates, but at the same time, the killing game has already been established at this point to feel unfair, and the way Mikado does this is fucking tense and HEART-POUNDING.
//Nikei's act of defiance is a culmination of his character arc. The moment his plan backfires, it underscores the overwhelming power imbalance between Mikado and the rest of the cast, especially with how the gun destroys Nikei's right hand, which he places great importance on.
//Kind of symbolically Mikado's way of saying "I can take away everything that matters to you with a snap of my fingers." Unlike the rest of the game prior to this, it truly cements him as an omnipotent antagonist, always one step ahead of the others, making any resistance feel almost hopeless.
//The new killing game rule prohibiting betrayal of VOID is an ingenious twist that amplifies this cruelty and strategic brilliance. By adding the rule immediately after Nikei's rebellion, Mikado not only punishes Nikei but also sends a chilling message to the remaining participants: defying him will not only fail but will lead to certain death.
//Finally, Nikei’s execution is a masterstroke of dramatic irony and narrative payoff. Throughout the game, Nikei has been a manipulator, attempting to control outcomes for his benefit. His final moments, where he loses not only his hand but also his life in a gruesome, predetermined fashion, reflect the very lack of control he tried so hard to avoid.
//And...I really did just spend an entire evening of my life going on a huge analysis of a trial that I actually don't care that much about, lmfao!
//I think it's because there's largely so much to talk about with this trial regardless of whether or not you actually like it or hate it. If you want a deep analysis, these points all need to be brought up.
//Overall, I think the reason why Trial 4, despite being very problematic in some pretty major ways, still turns out to be a really good case for this game overall is because how much of an impact it had both on the emotions of a player, and on the story in general, which is far more than can be said for Chapter 3.
//It's not as long, complicated, or convoluted, but it's a rollercoaster in its own right, being completely disorganized, and chock full of arguments, emotions, and feelings in a really cool way.

Paige x Azzi
A/N: Hey guys! I have this posted on wattpad but just posting it here cause I haven’t really been on that app in a couple months! Anyways, let me know thoughts in the comments and if I should write a second part ! Also I couldn’t be bothered to double check my spelling so bare with me 🙏
Warnings: drinking, kissing, hickeys
After a sad ending to an eventful season, the Uconn women’s basketball team found themselves in the gym getting warmed up for their first practice back. For Paige Bueckers, a red shirt junior, returning for her fifth year, she was conflicted between all of the emotions running through her mind. On one hand, she was absolutely devastated knowing that when she would look around the room, Nika Muhl and Aaliyah Edwards, her teammates from the year before wouldn’t be there. On the other, she was excited for many reasons like getting to know the new freshman class, getting ready for the upcoming season and she was thrilled to finally and hopefully play a full season with Azzi Fudd, her long time best friend who was coming back from an injury. Azzi was just as thrilled to be coming back but she was also terrified of what was going to come, she was struggling to find her rhythm and return to the athlete that she once was. She promised herself that during this offseason she would work on both her skills and her confidence to hopefully come back stronger than she had left.
Paige was a 6’0 blonde girl with the prettiest blue eyes most had ever seen. She had a muscular build, perfect arms, perfect legs, really she had a perfect body. She was known as the best women’s basketball player on the Uconn basketball team and would probably leave as one of the greatest to ever walk through the doors of the school. Azzi was a 5’11 light skin girl with a smile that could light up the world. She was known as a shooter and even Stephen Curry had credited her with the best shooting form he’d ever seen. Both girls together were a dynamic duo and had a connection that most teammates could only develop after years of practicing together but with Paige and Azzi, it had been automatic after only one meeting.
Geno walked into the gym with his usual angry expression that had earned him the nickname “the grandpa from up” from Nika last year.
“Let’s pray he doesn’t make us run” Paige whispered to Azzi, Kk Arnold and Ice Brady earning a small laugh from all the girls.
“Alright girls, today is going to be a little different from our regular practices. We are entering a new season without Nika and Aaliyah who we all considered great leaders to this team and we are being joined by a handful of new teammates. For the next few practices we will be working on our team bond meaning we will be strengthening bonds that already exist between each other but we will also work on getting closer with the ones we do not know as well. For today’s exercises, I’ve placed everyone of you in teams of two and each of you will be either asking each other questions or fulfilling activities that should help you bond. It’s basically the game of 20 questions as you like to call it but we will be going into a deeper perspective during these questions that have already been decided based on who will be your partner”, Geno states.
He then went on to naming teams - Ice and Kk, Ashlyn and Allie, Aubrey and Morgan… and lastly Paige and Azzi. Both girls were pleased to be with each other considering they had been best friends for almost seven years. They went to sit down in the far corner of the gym following the instructions given by their coach as to obtain the most privacy possible. Paige was wondering what questions they could possibly have to ask each other to fulfill the task of getting to know each other on a deeper level seeing as how they already connected of everything possible. Geno came over to them and handed them a stack of cards containing questions that had been submitted by the team managers, non athletes Uconn student.
“Alright question one: What is the one thing you admire the most about the other regarding the concept of your relationship?” Azzi read out looking up to Paige indicating her to answer the question first.
“That’s an easy one, I admire how you complete me” she said without diving into detail.
“What does that even mean” Azzi answered laughing.
“I don’t know how to explain it, it’s like you’re literally my other my half. I talk too much and you tell me when to shut up, I’m always agitated and you know how to calm me down, I’m always confused and you make it make sense, I’m always hungry and you know what I want to eat. Two peas in pot.” Paige said smirking and raising her arms up in the air, stretching her back and shoulders. She was wearing a navy blue practice shirt that made her ocean blue eyes stand out and a matching pair of practice shorts that she had rolled a couple times making them rest low on her waist. Azzi watched as her shirt rose when she lifted her arms, displaying her carved stomach and the muscles she had continued to gain. Paige noticed her eying her and for some reason felt a tinge of pride knowing that the work she put into her body had and effect on others. “Your turn to answer the question”.
“I like that you don’t pressure me. I mean you like to hang out all the time with the girls and I don’t, sometimes I prefer quiet and being by myself and I’m thankful that you let me have my space without trying to force me to hangout with you guys” Azzi said smiling at her blonde friend, her brown eyes full of admiration. Paige smiled back before asking the next question.
“What is something you either dislike about the other person or wish you could change about your relationship?” Paige read to her curly haired friend.
“Sometimes I feel like you’re embarrassed to be seen with me. I know that people are constantly assuming our sexualities and the nature of our relationship and I find that since the rumours started you’ve been avoiding me as soon as a camera is in sight” Azzi admitted finally getting her confession off her chest. She looked down to the floor embarrassed not meeting her fiends eyes. Paige felt saddened hearing those words come out of Azzi’s mouth and seeing the way those feelings were so evident on her friend’s face. She reached out and grabbed Azzi’s legs pulling her closer to her. She used her hand to lift her chin to meet her eyes.
“I thought all the assumptions made you uncomfortable I mean I know you don’t like being on social media so I thought if I stayed sway from you when people were filming eventually the rumours would stop and you’d be confortable around me again” she said starring deep into the others girl’s eyes. Azzi’s gaze softened as she relaxed knowing that her best friend didn’t want to get rid of her.
“Quite frankly I don’t care about what they make up about my life and I don’t care if they want to pretend we’re dating, I just don’t want you to ever shut me out and I don’t want you to push me away” Azzi said grabbing Paige’s free hand with both of hers.
“Okay I’m sorry I will no longer push you away” Paige said softly caressing Azzi’s cheek both girls completely lost in their eyes. Snapping back to reality, Azzi dropped her head to her chest making Paige removed her hand from her face. “My turn?” Azzi nodded.
“I wish you would let me 100% in, I tell you everything that ever crosses my mind and I feel like sometimes you’re hiding things from me and I mean you can have secrets I dont mean everything but I guys I mean I don’t want to have to guess if you’re feeling up to seeing us or if you’d prefer being ignored I just want you to tell me how you’re feeling. Sometimes I can’t tell if you just want to be alone if you don’t want to be with me” she said.
“Okay I’ll try harder communicating with you” she said lightening up the mood with a smille. They continued with the rest of the questions and they were now down to the last card. Azzi picked it up.
“Okay this one isn’t a question. It says: Looking into a mirror, point out you’re insecurities to your partner and help the other get over them. Dorms?” Azzi asked looking at Paige to which she received a nod and off we went to the bathroom in our dorm room.
“You’re turn to go first” Azzi said.
“I don’t know if I’m honest, I’ve gotten so much more comfortable with myself this year I guess the only thing I’m still working on is muscle. I have gotten stronger but I don’t want to be a skinny kid and I want to play more physical so I guess that’s the only thing I’d want to change” Paige said while looking at herself in the mirror.
“Well like you said it’s a good thing you can change that and with your work ethic I don’t think it’ll take much longer to get to your goal even if you’re body looks amazing as it is already” Azzi answered her friend while eying the blonde girls body. Paige caught her checking her out through the mirror and smirked to herself going red.
Paige watched Azzi look over herself in the mirror, her hands subconsciously rising up to her stomach. Without needing to say anything, Paige placed herself behind the girl and wrapped her arms around the younger girls waist, setting her head on the girls shoulder.
“You are the prettiest girl I will ever come across and there’s nothing you could ever change about yourself that could make you prettier, you’ve already reached perfection” Paige whispered in her ear in a low tone sending a shiver down the other girl’s body. Turning her head to look into the mirror, the girls eyes locked. When Paige turned her head back towards Azzi’s neck, her lips hovering over her skin, inhaling her vanilla perfume and closing her eyes, something shifted in the mood. At that moment, the main door to their dorm opened and the sound of many girls laughing could be heard. Coming back to reality, the girls practically jumped to the opposite side of the bathroom, Paige rushing out of the room altogether.
Out in the home room belonging to Paige, Azzi, Kk and Ice, every girl in the team was sitting around talking about the activity they had just performed and the ones that would come. Azzi was sitting next to Caroline and Allie on the couch while Paige made a point of being as far away from her, sitting at the table situated on the opposite side of the room with Jana and Kk.
The blonde girl had decided to completely ignore the situation and just pretend it never happened. Even if she chose to pretend the past couple minutes hadn’t occurred, her eyes were drawn to the brunette girl sitting opposite from her who refused to look up from her phone if she wasn’t engaged in conversation with her other teammates. The one time that Azzi lifted her head to sneak a glance at Pige, their eyes met. Paige had always been known for being a girl that wasn’t affected by eye contact, often she was the one that initiated it. Not wanting to appear weak, Azzi held her gaze locked into her blonde friend’s. Shockingly, Paige’s cheeks went red and she put her head down flustered. Azzi had always known that Paige had that affect on every boy and girl they came across, even herself but she had never seen her as more then her very attractive best friend. Azzi was also a very pretty girl who also caught the people’s eye having being nicknamed the people’s princess. She knew that people didn’t only come to watch her play basketball but rather because she was just another pretty girl in a uniform but she was pleased to know that she also had a similar affect on Paige.
Azzi didn’t know how to feel about what had just happened with her closest friend. Paige had always been stuck in the younger girls mind ever since the first time they met during their olympic trial practices years ago. The way she saw it, she could either ignore it or confront it but how she would do that she didn’t even know. She didn’t know how she felt about what had happened. She didn’t know how to react to the feeling of Paiges’s breath coming down on her skin, the feeling of Paige’s lips hanging above her bare shoulder. She didn’t know how to intake the gaze full of emotion, the feeling of her arms wrapping around her body, how she fit perfectly into Paige’s body as if they had once been molded together. Looking at Paige across the room, everything that had happened flashed vividly through her mind. Her heart clenched watching the blonde girl smile and laugh at the other girls jokes while she avoided Azzi’s eyes as much as she could but when their eyes did cross paths, looking away was the most difficult thing to do.
Later that night the girls decided to go out to a close by bar. Neither of the two girls had spoken to each other in hours but maybe that would change tonight. Paige had decided on a pair of black cargo pants and a loose white t shirt, opting for a more masculine style. Azzi had decided on a similar black pair of pants and a bright green tank top with an open back. While Ice and Kk were waiting in Azzi’s room, Paige had just finished drying her hair and was now heading over to meet with the other three girls. When she walked in she was met with her younger friend doing her makeup in the bathroom where they had shared their last moments together. Feeling bold she walked into the smaller room, leaning against the counter right beside Azzi, her back facing the miroir.
“You look good” she said nonchalantly, eyeing her friend from head to toe and not being discreet about it.
“You’re not so bad yourself Bueckers” was Azzi’s response, keeping her eyes facing the mirror on the wand of her mascara not daring to look at the blonde girl, scared she would fold.
The taller girl laughed to herself before exiting the room but not without letting her fingers skim Azzi’s waist, automatically feeling the shiver run through her body.
When Azzi finally walks out indicating that she is ready to leave, sitting on the couch is Paige and the two other girls all laughing together. Paige’s arm is resting on the back of the couch, right behind Ice’s shoulders. Her legs are spread apart while her other hand resting on her thigh. It’s definitely a sight to see. They had decided to take Paige’s car and by tradition Azzi was in the passengers seat truly owning up to the title of the princess. She was also on aux which was why she was surprised when Paige handed her phone to the girl.
“Password?” she asked.
“Your birthday” Paige answered automatically shocking Azzi. When she put in the digits to her birthday, the phone opened. She smiled to herself knowing that she was important enough to the girl sitting next to her.
For the rest of the car ride, the four girls sang their hearts out to every song that Azzi chose. Paige parked next to the other two girls on her team who had drove the rest of their teammates to the club. Walking through the doors, they spotted the rest of the girls already sitting at a booth and made their way over to them.
Paige
Nobody knew of my sexuality since I had never made it public but that never stopped people from assuming I was into girls. However, they were not wrong. Having grown in a women’s sport full of probably the world prettiest creations, it hadn’t taken long for me to know that men were the furthest thing from attractive. It was still a little surreal to me that people really wanted me so when people came up to me the second I walked into the club, I had to remind myself that this was part of the public image I had made for myself. For some reason, men where the ones coming up to me left and right even though I pretty much gave of the lesbian vibes from miles away. Not wanting to seem rude, I entertained the conversation while my friends made their way further in the building, trying to politely pull away and go join the group. When I finally got away, the girls had dispersed into groups across the room, some of them dancing, others drinking, only Azzi wasn’t anywhere in sight. Looking around I found her on the dance floor with a blonde girl probably the same height as her. My heart dropped at the sight for some reason. We had always been super close friends but we had a weird relationship. Neither of us had dated other people since we’d met each other so we’d never talked about our sexualities but Id always assumed she was straight. It confused me why all of a sudden I felt annoyed at the sight of her talking to another girl knowing that it was probably a new friend. I sat down with my teammates and tried to engage in the conversation but all I could do was watch the two girls dance together. It seemed like hours had passed before Azzi finally pulled away and walked back to the table.
“That looked cozy” Caroline joked making all the girls laugh and Azzi blush. She blushed. BLUSHED.
“It was nothing let’s not think too much about it” Azzi said shutting down the thought of her and that girl.
“Oh come on she was basically begging for you to kiss her” Kk said dramatically, leading all the girls to agree with her.
“I was just not to attracted to her you know” Azzi answered, sitting down in the open spot next to me while taking a sip of my drink, a shirley temple.
“You got someone else in mind?” Kk asked, earning no verbal response but only a smirk.
So to cover what I had learned from this very confusing night - Azzi was into girls, Azzi was not into that blonde girl, Azzi was not into me because I’m also a blonde girl and Azzi has her sights on someone. I don’t know why the realization that my closest friend not being interested in me seemed to be the most gut wrenching news Id heard all week but I just decided to drink the pain away. I got up from my seat and headed over to the bar where I ordered several shots.
Azzi
I watched as Paige took 4 shots, then 5 and then 6 before I finally made my way over. We hadn’t spoken since earlier today in our bathroom so I just decided to blame the alcohol in my system for my sudden boldness. Just as she went to grab her seventh shot, I took it from her and drank it myself. She turned to face me.
“What’s up with you” I asked.
“Nothing” she answered back.
“Don’t lie to me Paige” I told her stepping between her open legs.
“You like someone?” she asked, changing the subject.
“I don’t know, maybe. You?” I told her knowing she probably wasn’t going to remember this conversation.
“Maybe” was all she answered with a smirk spreading across her face. I ordered a couple shots for myself before dragging the blonde girl onto the dance floor with me.
What had started as innocent dancing slowing turned into something more when her hands found my hips and my back was flat against her chest. With the alcohol kicking in, neither of us were paying too much attention to where our hands would land on the others body. For the second time today, Paige’s lips rested right above my bare shoulder travelling to my neck to finally find my ear.
“Let’s go” she pleaded, slurring her words. Everything in me screamed not to take her up on that request but my legs grew a mind of their own.
We called an uber to drive us back to our dorm. The entire car ride, I could feel my heart racing and my head spinning. I’d sat in the middle of the back seat to be as close to her as I could. I was leaning on her, my head resting on her shoulder while her hand drew shapes on my expose skin. When we got to our dorm, all of the warning I was sending myself vanished. When the door closed, my back found the wall and a pair of lips crashed onto mine. I could taste the alcohol on her tongue and I knew she was tasting the same from me. Her hands travelled from my neck to my back, the presence of her touch far too noticeable from the lack of fabric covering the area. Her fingers pressed into my skin leaving their presence whenever they moved. The kiss was passionate and rough, both of us fighting for dominance. My hands were in her hair, pulling her face to an angle to deepen the kiss.
Her lips were pink and swollen when we finally pulled away for air and while I tried to catch my breath, she took it from me again when she attached her mouth to my neck attacking my skin. When she got down to my collar bone and chest the soft kissing turned into sucking, guaranteeing a mark tomorrow morning. She lowered herself onto her knees the more her kissed got lower onto my body. When she reached the waistband of my pants, my mind sobered up. Softly pushing her off me, I looked down at the confused girl below me.
“We can’t, as much as I want too, you’re drunk” I told her. She had always been a lightweight so the effects of whatever she had drunk were still pretty strong but she still understood my words and got up. Cupping my face in her hands, she whispered, “Stay with me tonight”.
I nodded and followed her into her room. While she changed into her pyjamas, I borrowed a pair of her softer lounge shorts and a hoodie. Looking at myself in the mirror on the front of her closet, I could see a trail of hickeys across my chest. Pulling down her sweatshirt, I was reassured knowing that they were fully covered. I turned around to find a almost asleep Paige lying in her bed looking at me. With a small smile I joined her in bed, my back to her, not being able to face her right now. Still, her arms wrapped around my waist pulling me closer and her head nuzzled into the crook of my neck. It didn’t take long for her to fall asleep after that. However for me, I was up for hours after questioning what would happen tomorrow morning.
I had never looked at Paige like that. I had never seen her as more than a friend. Sure she had always been pretty and charming but that was the extent of it. Tonight, kissing her felt right. I wasn’t sure whether it was the alcohol talking or if I was being honest with myself. Ignoring the small moment from earlier was one thing but ignoring the whole make out session she had just had with the girl sleeping beside her was another. Would she regret it? Would she be mad at me? Would this end our friendship? I didn't know what to
expect but all the overthinking ended up sending me to sleep.
…
When I woke up the next morning, we were still laying in the same position as last night. My head hurt but not as bad as I thought it would. Paige had woken up before me and was scrolling on her phone with her volume at the lowest setting. I turned to look at, the closeness of our faces sending a shiver down my spine.
“Good morning” she whispered.
“How are you feeling” I asked her. There was no feeling of awkwardness between us to my surprise.
“My head hurts like hell. I can still taste the alcohol in my mouth” she mumbled, turning on her back and conversing her eyes with her hands. “I can’t remember anything, what the hell did I drink”
There it was. That sentence defined how our relationship would go forward.
“You don’t remember anything?” I asked her.
“I remember you and that girl, heading to the bar and then seeing you but after it’s a blank” she stated. “I didn’t do anything stupid right?”
We stayed in silence for a moment, Paige racking her mind for any memories of last night while I replayed every second. The feeling of her lips on mine, on my body, the feeling of her hands in my hair, on my skin was setting me on fire. I didn’t know her true feelings about what had happened and now that she didn’t even remember, I never would know them. There was no purpose in me telling her if she couldn’t even relive them for herself. So I kept it to myself.
“Nothing stupid that I can remember” I told her.
“Can we stay in bed for a little longer?” she asked, begging.
We didn’t have anything planned for today seeing as how this was our one day off for the week, so I nodded, also needing the extra rest. What I didn’t expect was for her to turn back on to her side and hid her face into my neck, wrapping her arms around my waist, holding me tight and close.

Sakyo Furuichi headcanons
By the time Sakyo’s mother remarried, I think he was genuinely happy to see his mother so happy. He was genuinely thrilled that she’d found someone to treat her well and to spend the rest of her day’s with. However, I don’t think Sakyo ever thinks of his stepfather as a father of any sort and, though he treats the man well, it’s with none of the respect that Sakyo would ever show his father. At the beginning, when his mother did start dating the man who would go on to become Sakyo’s stepfather, though, the relationship between the two of them had no respect whatsoever. It wasn’t the stepfather’s fault – right from the beginning, he tried hard to be nice to Sakyo and to build a relationship with him. After it having been just him and his mother for so long, though, Sakyo didn’t really trust anyone trying to come in and join that tight circle. He was suspicious of the man and also worried a great deal about his mother. Sakyo made it really clear that, if his future stepfather were to ever hurt his mother in any way, he’d have to deal with Sakyo. Given that, by this point, Sakyo did have some experience in the yakuza, the threat was quite meaningful. While Sakyo’s stepfather does his best to love his stepson and to support him, the relationship is never close and somewhere deep inside the stepfather, he’s a little afraid of Sakyo.
Sakyo has never understood the appeal of smoking. It doesn’t matter if it’s cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, or marijuana. He just doesn’t get the appeal of it at all. Not only is it terrible for one’s health, but he cannot stand the smell. Marijuana affects him particularly badly – to him, it always smell like skunk. But he even finds the smell of cigarettes to be absolutely disgusting and nausea-inducing. To him, the smell is downright offensive. And believe me, he can definitely smell a smoker. Sakoda is the type of drinker who, when out with his friends for a night of drinking and partying, will have the occasional smoke. By the time he sees Sakyo next, often hours later, sometimes even a full day later, Sakyo can still smell the cigarette on him. Sakyo’s not afraid to call Sakoda out on that bad habit either – in fact, whenever this does happen, Sakoda is in for a lecture on what cigarettes do to a person’s health.
Sakyo has always really liked math. Even as a child, he excelled at it. To him, math and numbers are simple. They’re easy for him to handle and figure out. He often worked ahead of his classmates during math classes at school. It’s part of why he likes accounting so much – it’s just easy for him. It’s natural and simple. On top of that, I think Sakyo really enjoys accounting for another reason. Sakyo can be a little obsessed with money, sometimes to his detriment. He’s extremely financially literate and more than a little concerned with budget and such. However, I do think there’s reasons for that. Sakyo grew up in poverty. It wasn’t extreme – he always had a roof over his head, his ass was always covered, and there was food. But he remembers times when keeping that roof over his head was a shaky thing, when his mother, though she tried to hide it from her son, would be in tears at the time late at night, looking at a stack of bills and trying to figure out how to keep it all together. He remembers birthdays and Christmases when his presents were a week late, just to fall in line with his mother’s payday. Where the food in his belly might be cheap ramen for a week. I think that might have instilled a bit of a fear in Sakyo, where he felt really powerless to help his mother, to find a way to make her happy again. Having little to no money means worry, stress, fear, and a complete lack of control over his life to Sakyo.
Though acting is probably the biggest thing in Sakyo’s life currently, it’s not his only passion. It’s definitely not his only hobby. He’s someone who has well-developed interests and who is settled into his likes and dislikes. Sakyo is a big reader. While he reads things that others would expect of him – textbooks and non-fiction on subjects he’s interested in, more famous plays that he dreams of someday acting out on stage, classic novels – Sakyo has an unexpected side. While he tries quite hard to hide it from everyone, worried about being seen as frivolous, I also think he has a guilty pleasure in romance novels, particularly young adult romance novels, with the exception of Fifty Shades of Grey. He never let anyone see him in possession of those books, but he devoured them nonetheless. That guilty pleasure extends to romance movies and dramas, though you would have to resort to torture to get him to admit that.
Though Sakyo would never admit it, Azami was the person who has given Sakyo the best ever birthday gift. Azami thought it would be a good low-effort gift that would show Sakyo how little Azami cared about his birthday…that backfired though. Sakyo seemed quite pleased, in his restrained way, with the gift, and when in private, Sakyo took great joy in the gift. The gift in question? Azami had bought a great big role of bubble wrap from the post office and given that to Sakyo. It kept Sakyo happy and content for a good two months, since he rationed it out.
Going along with that headcanon, while I don’t think that they are something Sakyo would buy himself, because he would consider it a waste of money, I do personally headcanon that he’d really like fidget toys. Pop-it style fidget toys are obviously his favourites but I think he’d also enjoy fidget cubes as well.
While it’s not something others would expect, Sakyo can be hyper-aware of his own looks. He’s not exceptionally vain, but he does have some vanity to him. He doesn’t like to be caught looking ‘sloppy.’ The thought of it bothers him – heck, even sometimes within practice, when he’s going all out practicing fight and stage choreography and gets sweaty or disheveled, it bothers him. He feels like he might be seen as ‘less than,’ that the others might judge his appearance in the moment, even though logically he knows they won’t. He doesn’t like to have anyone see him in outfits that are quite casual – jeans and a t-shirt or even worse, sweatpants and a t-shirt? That’s workout clothes only. I do think some of this stems from Sakyo’s childhood, where he’d often get bullied for his hand-me-down or second-hand clothes, where the cheap clothes his mother could afford often branded him as poor and other from the other children. Other parts of it comes down to Sakyo’s own personal aesthetic taste, which tends to skew towards a more elegant, ‘old money’ type of style.
Though he won’t admit to it, Sakyo often worries when Omi and Tasuku are out on their motorcycles. He’s always been a bit wary of that form of transportation, acutely aware of how easy it is for motorcyclists to get caught up in a traffic accident and how deadly traffic accidents can be for them. He won’t forbid the motorcycles or anything – he’s not their parent, for gods sake, but he breathes a sigh of relief, often unheard and unseen, whenever they return from a ride.
Sakyo has an incredibly hard time planning dates. He struggles to come up with ideas on his own, worries about every minute idea, overanalyzes the balance between fun and romantic. He’s methodical about planning them but planning them also gives him no small measure of anxiety. He calculates every small detail as a way of controlling that anxiety, running through his plans not just once, not just twice, but probably about five to seven times before the date even happens. Even with all the anxiety though, even with how hard it is, because he can be a little bit of a control freak, Sakyo still prefers to be the one in the relationship who plans out date nights.
Sakyo is not a gamer by any means. He thinks that, as a hobby, it’s a little childish and kind of a waste of time and money. Video games and consoles are insanely expensive, after all. With that being said though, even he has his little gaming streak, though not a hardcore one. He just has a couple game apps on his phone. He argues they aren’t really video games, since it’s just Mahjong and a chess app, but they totally count, at least according to Citron. Even then , he much prefers to play those games outside of the phone or with an actual person instead of a computer.

Convergent Histories

a @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt
Jenny feels in place, mostly, enough that she forgets, sometimes, with maybe days or even weeks until something stuns her still when she tries to piece apart what it is, what it means, what it means for her. It’s not hard. It looks like home, for the most part, sounds like home, smells like home when the fog hits and there’s barely room to see. Even the big differences are so ubiquitous she’s used to them, and forgets.
But then she’ll mention offhand a book they had to read in school, something so central to the canon no one hasn’t heard of it, and there they are. Blank looks all around. Maybe it exists here, some version of it, by some different title with half the words stripped, under an author with a name that isn’t quite right. It’s never anything at all like what she remembers.
What do they read here? She asks, and they give her lists, give her stacks of library copies, or folders full of text files, or their own precious books as they tell her be careful, it’s my favorite. And that feels similar enough, the structure and cadence not unfamiliar, the characters textured and real, the worlds wonderful and horrible and mesmerizing. The weight of them is the same in her hands, the smell of them, the edges rough or smooth against her fingers. The words blur the same as she grows tired, the tablet lands the same on her pillow as she drifts off to sleep. The stories are stories, still.
But the names are so many men she never knew and may never have had reason to. There are familiar landmarks – wars, disasters, inventions, fads – and the topics trend toward the same preoccupations, but the people are never the same ones. Even the same plays have different players, different faces, different costumes. The same myths have a different outcome, moral, name. The fonts are the same but the pictures are different, portraits rendered in a different hand. No one with her name, here. There are Jennys galore but not a single Jenivere, not a single Marstotter in the city that’s supposed to be her own for her to turn to and say, no, no, she’s the other Jenny, the tall one. The soprano. The one who can’t fly.
And she can see, in the books, the same lessons. This one teaches where to use a simile and where a metaphor, that one teaches symbolism through repetition. This one has characters with such depth you feel like you’ve met someone almost the same, and that one uses archetypes to develop a plot so intricate you try to solve it right along with everyone else. This one is famous, historical, that one is pop culture, relatable, intriguing to a bored class full of teenagers who would rather be skipping rocks.
But why, in this world that loves wolves so much that they have them on every corner, where Jenny can’t walk two blocks without being offered the opportunity to say hello to one, do they have so many books where they die? Why is there a whole category called a dead dog book that’s supposed to be so edifying kids are reading them regularly in class? There wasn’t anything like that back home, where someone tailored something just for kids to see their beloved becha slain right in front of them. But you can’t ask. Jenny’s tried.
There are questions people think are funny. What is this food made of, and why does that music sound like that. People love explaining their culture and their history and their family and all the little details that make the place make sense to them. They don’t love politics – or, at least, the people who do love explaining politics are well worth staying away from – but they’ll still dive into it, make it cogent for Jenny to find her way through questions and debates and, eventually, the vote. They love explaining the who and what and when and where and how of it all. And they love explaining the why. But they never quite manage it.
Jenny’s learned to phrase her questions like they’re light, flighty things. People are so much more afraid of depth, here, of philosophy, of meaning something they shouldn’t. So afraid of saying something too complicated, too technical, even when they have expertise. Dumbing things down in embarrassment.
They love to explain – they explain even when she doesn’t ask, even now that she knows her way around – but they never want to explain too hard or, Jenny thinks, they’re worried the magic will get sucked out of it somehow. That if the mystery goes away, if they allow themselves to truly understand, somehow physics will stop working and the world with it. So they summarize, paraphrase, redirect. Jenny’s learned to get at questions sidelong, but even then. The more expert people seem at first blush, the more flustered they get at the details. Always derailing with movies, or gossip, or sex.
They know how many worlds there are. They’d have to, to give her quizzical looks and correct her on terminology, to tell her that her clothing doesn’t look quite right, to study why her powers are so different, so rare among the people of this place. They’d have to, to flush and stammer out apologies when they overstep. When they say something her culture forbids, or she stumbles across something theirs does.
But then, Jenny’s pretty sure she never could’ve answered the why of it back home, either. That’s why she’s here. It was supposed to tell her something, but she’s pretty sure she hasn’t gained any more insight than the numbers told them all in the first place. She’s pretty sure that’s maybe not a thing she can do. That anyone can do. That maybe that’s not the kind of question science can answer, no matter how many worlds are at your disposal.
It’s a relief, in some ways, not being able to call home and report she’s learned nothing yet again. A relief to think everyone’s lives are continuing on as normal – you hear horror stories in a Parallel House – and they miss her, think of her like she thinks of them, assume she’s making discoveries by the minute. But the discoveries she makes aren’t the kind that tell her anything grand; the patterns always fall apart. So she calls herself an alien, and laughs, and moves on, and maybe that’s as close as she can get to a fact or figure.

Foreign Matter
It is no secret that my favorite grocery store is Trader Joe’s. Sure, Whole Foods comes in a close second, but TJ’s is just my vibe. I love the laid back atmosphere, free of pretense and full of happy, adventurous shopping. They’re keen to keep bringing in foods and spices that most other groceries would never touch.
Unfortunately, we will probably never have one here in Amarillo. While they continue to add new stores (there are currently 564 stores in 43 states), they have their standards, tending to open in educated, upper-middle-class neighborhoods. We just don’t have enough people here who fit that demo.
So, whenever I travel, I go prepared with a huge cooler and a stack of Trader Joe’s reusable shopping bags. If Dallas, Albuquerque, or Oklahoma City are on my return trip, then I stop for a major shopping expedition. Believe me, I am not the only one. Many TJ’s fans who live in places that will never have one are just like me, and TJ’s knows it. Why add too many stores when people are willing to go to this extreme just to patronize you?

Trader Joe’s has been around since 1967 in Pasadena California. It was purchased by Aldi Nord (“North”) in 1979. And if you recognize that name, you should. It’s just that the Aldi stores we see in the US (which admittedly have many similarities, but different price points and target market) are owned by Aldi Sud (“South”). Both are German companies, and were once one big company until a rift developed between the brothers who owned it. They split into two at that point, so at best we can say that TJ’s and Aldi are cousins.
Given my love affair with TJ’s, it should come as no surprise that I have been known to include them in essay exam questions (wink wink, nudge nudge), incorporating their very cool podcast and other materials. This is a company that does exceptionally little advertising, adamantly refuses to allow online shopping, and will never have self-check lanes. It’s all about the shopping experience, and for this marketing prof, a company that is rich with marketing lessons.
But all has not been well with TJ’s this summer, because they have suffered through five product recalls. And they are odd ones, ranging from items that “may contain” rocks, insects, and metal. Ouch. Once that kind of news hits the airwaves and social media, it can become a public relations nightmare.
Roughly 85% of TJ’s items are private-label goods, meaning they are manufactured and packaged under contract by a different company. TJ’s doesn’t make anything; they just authorize its manufacture and labeling. It’s a challenge to find other-branded items in the store outside of the beer and wine section. It is these external providers who are the ones with quality control issues.
And yet TJ’s bears the brunt of the messaging, as well as responsibility for controlling the flow of response. That’s no small task.
None of these recalls is going to keep me from shopping at Trader Joe’s, but they might deter others, especially those who may not be quite so loyal as I am. Let’s face it, recalls are a black eye, whether you are at fault or not. How you handle that recall will help define your future. It starts with pulling all of the items that “may contain” said foreign matter, and then allowing for no-questions-asked refunds.
That’s only the beginning though. How do you begin to assure shoppers that they will be safe shopping there? Remember, we’re talking about food, something we put in our mouths. And what we put in our mouths is sacred. I liken meal preparation and eating to a spiritual experience. That is perfectly consistent with the religious training I received as a youth, that our bodies are temples and to be respected as such. Now why would I want to risk ingesting rocks, insects, and metal?
Given that TJ’s only uses Pinterest and Instagram on social media, along with their podcast and printed newsletter called The Fearless Flyer, they do not have many channels of communication. It’s so much easier when you leverage all of the socials, because you can broadcast to millions with a few clicks and taps.
In fact, TJ’s presence on Insta is predominantly fan pages that get as much traction as the corporate page, with people reviewing new products, offering recipe advice, and the like. That’s all great in terms of free word-of-mouth, but Trader Joe’s never gets to take the microphone on those pages, only their own.
Lastly, TJ’s could consider finding new vendors for some of its private label products, especially if a track record of recalls were to be established. Even still, this is no small task, because extensive vetting must then be completed. Existing vendors were chosen after thorough product testing in the first place.
I’ll be watching, TJ’s. You’re not at risk of losing me, but you cannot ignore these matters. Five black eyes in a little more than a month is a bad look. Here’s to righting this ship and sailing boldly into the future.

Why Tailwind CSS Is Changing Modern Web UI Design?
In recent years, the web design world has seen a significant shift in how developers and designers approach styling—thanks to Tailwind CSS. From startups to enterprise-level companies, Tailwind CSS has quickly become the go-to utility-first CSS framework. But why is Tailwind CSS changing modern web UI design so dramatically?
Let’s break it down.
1. Utility-First Means More Control
Tailwind CSS doesn’t rely on predefined UI components. Instead, it gives you low-level utility classes like flex, pt-4, text-center, and more. These small, atomic classes give developers full control over styling without writing custom CSS.
This method promotes consistency and allows for faster development. You're building designs directly in your HTML—no context-switching between HTML and CSS files.
2. Faster Prototyping = Quicker Results
Designers and developers love how quickly they can bring a layout to life with Tailwind. With built-in classes for spacing, typography, colors, and responsive design, prototyping becomes incredibly efficient.
In fact, many UI/UX teams are using Tailwind to create and iterate on designs faster than ever—without needing complex design systems from scratch.
3. Responsive Design Made Easy
Tailwind’s mobile-first responsive utilities make it easier to adapt your design across breakpoints. Rather than redefining styles in separate media queries, you can do it inline with classes like md:w-1/2 or lg:flex-row. This means fewer files, less code, and cleaner breakpoints baked into your markup.
4. Built for Modern Development Stacks
Tailwind CSS integrates seamlessly with modern frameworks like React, Vue, Angular, Next.js, and more. It works wonderfully in component-based design systems and plays well with tools like PostCSS and PurgeCSS for performance optimization.
5. Customizable and Scalable
One of Tailwind’s strongest points is its configuration file (tailwind.config.js). This file allows developers to define custom color palettes, fonts, breakpoints, and more—resulting in a design system that scales with the product.
It lets teams enforce a consistent look across apps while still having the flexibility to change styles when needed.
6. Growing Ecosystem and Community
The Tailwind community is booming. From Tailwind UI (prebuilt components by the creators) to plugins and themes, there's a growing ecosystem supporting faster development.
The documentation is also one of the best out there—clear, well-organized, and packed with examples.
Final Thoughts
Tailwind CSS isn’t just a trend—it’s a fundamental shift in how we build interfaces. It empowers developers to create clean, scalable, and responsive UIs with less effort and more consistency.
If you're still relying on traditional CSS or bulky frameworks, it might be time to consider why Tailwind CSS is becoming the new standard for modern web design.
