This is the holy grail on all things #metabolicdamage #starvationmode #slowmetabolism , etc. from @aworkoutroutine 👏 • I find myself sending this to clients and others weekly. If you think you have a broken #metabolism due to #dieting , are resistant to #weightloss , are the one person on the planet the laws of #thermodynamics don’t apply to, can’t make #fatloss #progress no matter what you do, etc., you 💯 need to give this a read. New Video up on my YT channel https://youtu.be/5ag6_0BH1u0l In the video I explain why Megan Elizabeth has recently gained weight (she did a video with her own theories) and why I think High Carb Hannah will eventually experience weight gain as well. Anyone who gains weight following a high carb, low fat, plant-based vegan diet, does so because they calorie restricted at some point and have metabolic damage debt to pay. Check out the video for more info, including my tips for optimizing the functioning of your metabolism for a fit, lean, healthy body for life! #plantbased #nutrition #calorierestriction #metabolicdamage #heal #weightgain #weightloss #vegan #highcarbhannah #highcarb #lowfat #rt4 #meganelizabeth #lowfat #fitness #earlynights #unlimitedcalories #hydration

The online fitness community has been pushing restrictive diets like Paleo, Keto and Carnivore for about a decade now. I fell into the trap a few times. One thing they all have in common is glycogen restriction. While these diets are great for those who don’t train or do a couple light workouts a week, these are not good diet choices for the performance athletes. You can’t lift heavy and move fast for 5-7 training sessions a week without at the bare minimum 1 gram of carbohydrates per lb of body weight. Week after week of eating a carb depleted diet while continuing to lift heavy, daily metcons and long cardio sessions will lead to metabolic adaptations that will reap havoc on your central nervous system and metabolism. Without eating the fuel to thrive you will dig yourself a hole that take sooo long to get out of. If you are starting to feel weak or constantly tired, have little sex drive and feel depressed you probably need to rethink your diet. #diet #food #paleo #keto #metabolicadaptation #carbs #carbohydraterestriction #crossfit #crosstraining #powerlifting #fitness #gym #cardio #strongman #fitspo #eatingdisorder #fitness #eateverything #metabolicdamage #roguefitness #straightedge (at Standish, Maine) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqpiG3wFjbP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6kwhq1g12ibj

Metabolic Issues
OKAY, so part of the reason why I wanted to start my account now is because honestly I’ve been feeling pretty sluggish, like have no energy and am always exhausted. I’m fairlyyy confident this is because I’ve been overtraining for awhile now. Some background info~ I’ve struggled with a restrictive eating disorder in the past, which included obsessive exercise and orthorexia (obsessively healthy eating). I turned to lifting when I got fed up with the lifestyle I was living and I saw it was affecting my relationships and quality of life. I significantly decreased my cardio, while I was still doing about 45 min on upper body days and 15 min on lower body days and increased my calories to 1800 cal per day. Fast forward about a year to now and I’m still lifting obviously but the cardio has been creepin up on me again for a while now. ugh. I go to the gym every single day; it’s hard for me to take rest days because when I’m having a hard time with my depression the gym is the only thing that can save me from that dark place. SO when my depression is hitting hard, that’s when I tend to do more and more cardio still while lifting. I hope I’m making sense lol. The point is, I know I’m in a place of metabolic resistance, if not metabolic damage. Damage is more severe than resistance. Damage includes nervous system dysfunction, hormone dysfunction, and immune system dysfunction. Anyways, I’ve done some research and in order to get my metabolism back in balance and not slow af, I need to exercise less (duh) and surprisingly eat less, too. This is the most gentle and effective way to do this. There’s a chance I will gain a little weight during this process before I start losing again but this is what I have to do to heal my metabolism and stop feeling like sheeeeeetttt. I’ll continue to post about my journeyyy; pretty nervous about this process but posting will help keep myself accountable.
Here’s some symptoms regarding Metabolic RESISTANCE:
Weight loss halts completely, and you can no longer lose weight with an eat less, exercise more approach. At best you maintain your weight.
One or more of the biofeedback cues is a constant reminder something is wrong. Typically there is moderate continual fatigue but it is more of a wired on the inside, tired on the outside feeling.
Mood changes occur. You can be anxious or depressed, but ironically it is a little of both.
Sleep becomes dysfunctional. You may have difficulty going to sleep and/or staying asleep.
You may notice in the evenings that you feel more wired and energetic than the rest of the day.
Here’s some symptoms regarding Metabolic DAMAGE:
All of the above
You can’t lose weight and may even be gaining weight despite no change in diet.
Your body is taking on a puffy/waterlogged look.
You are suffering depression.
You have multiple digestive complaints.
You may be dealing with hypothyroid symptoms of dry skin, itchy scalp, and slow thinking.
You are exhausted and have zero motivation.
Your libido is gone.
Your menses is completely gone or irregular.
You may be feeling light headed.
You may be having new sensitivity to bright lights.
You may have developed multiple food intolerances.

What is Reverse Dieting? Is it necessary after weight loss? 👉Did you know that over 95% of the people who lose a significant amount of weight, gain it all back within 3 years of losing it? Many even gain back more than where they started. 🤔It's not that we can't lose weight. The problem is that we can't keep it off. 👉This is where Reverse Dieting can help. Reverse dieting is exactly what it sounds like. 🍊When we lose weight, we reduce our calories over time. ⏪ When we reverse diet, we slowly add calories to our diet rather than eating a lot of food right away. . 🤔What happens when we lose a lot of weight? ⬇️ Metabolism ⬆️ Hunger ⬇️ Energy levels ⬆️ Stress ⬇️ Motivation ⬆️ Food Cravings ⬇️ Willpower . ❌All of these factors combined is a recipe for massive weight regain. ✅ Reverse dieting gives you some structure after you're done dieting. Basically you add in roughly 50-100 calories from carbs and fats to your weight loss diet every week until you find your maintenance calories. ⏪Reverse dieting will allow you to stay lean after losing weight. 👉If you want to learn more, check out my latest article at www.underdogstrength.com 😀 . . . . . . #reversedieting #reversediet #reversedietjourney #reversedietingworks #weightmaintenance #weightmaintaining #maintainweight #maintainweightloss #permanentweightloss #fattofit #fattofitjourney #howtoloseweight #howtolosefat #weightlosstips #weightlossdiet #postweightloss #metabolicdamage #metabolismboost #metabolismbooster #fitindia #indianfitness #fitnessindia #indiafitness #powerliftingindia #indianpowerlifting #weightlossindia #indianweightloss #boostmetabolism #leangain #weightlossadvice (at Santa Cruz, California)

“If you are on social media, and you are not learning, not laughing, not being inspired or not networking, then you are using it wrong.” - Germany Kent ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A few years ago I discovered @achangpt on Insta after my time as a competitor. I instantly fell in love with her IG account because she shed some light on #metabolicdamage, a conversation that most people don’t talk about in the fitness industry, but such an important one for those who become avid dieters. When we met in person for the first time we instantly connected. About a year and a half ago I stumbled upon @freefannifitness’ account. I loved the real conversations she would have about the current state of her body and how important it was to embrace the changes no matter what stage of your fit journey you were on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today, @achangpt and I had the sweetest lunch with @freefannifitness during her short visit to SF and we had one of the best conversations about the fitness community/industry and the messages that the world might be missing the mark on. One of the topics we were talking about was around how “fitness people” can be quickly judged on their eating choices when they decide to have that one treat meal or opting to not work out for a week, while someone who doesn’t normally make healthy choices can opt for a fish and veggie meal that day and become instantly praised for making that healthy choice. Why is that? Why has fitness been taken as an all or nothing choice? I can go on and on about the negative damage that this mentality can create, but instead I’ll just reminisce on the beautiful afternoon spent with two amazing women who have been blazing a trail in the fitness community with their passion for helping others recognize the importance of defining health and fitness in your own standards rather than what society defines for us. #redefininghealthy (at Loving Cup)

Just Pinned to Motivation: #metabolicdamage and #training Why? The scientific term is metabolic adaptation otherwise known as adaptive thermogenesis. By eating less and exercising more you likely will notice some weight loss in the first few weeks until your body fights back. Some key signals include increased hunger less energy increased cravings and decreased sex drive. Studies have shown that your resting metabolic rate may be lowered by an average of 300 calories per day. That is regardless of what youre doing your http://ift.tt/2uUXdwL

Healing
This is a very long story and i’ll keep it short, without sparing the details.
For the last couple of years, i’ve been in a bad place. I’ve always struggled to find exactly what my purpose is and the more that time goes on, the worse i feel. I know that I need to bring about change and whatever happens, i need to be creative, because that’s who i am. I managed to find myself being pulled in the direction of creative advertising and i enjoyed the process of developing ideas to influence change and create impact. I want to open peoples minds and broaden their perspective, which is what advertising can do. Unfortunately, advertising is one of the worst tools used today, only used to manipulate people into buying shit they don’t need to impress people they don’t like etc. Why the hell would I want to fuel interest in something that not only destroying people, but also destroying the planet? There was no way i was ever going to create a campaign for crap like McDonalds. But if i learnt all of the techniques of advertising, i could use it for good and create great campaigns to bring change to our already severely damaged and brainwashed society.
So, i found myself being drawn into the world of advertising and was accepted onto one of (if not) the best advertising schools. A very intense year long course that would provide me with the tools, the knowledge and my own portfolio to start a career. Unfortunately, this was probably one of the worst time periods of my life. I was having battles in my head everyday because i felt like i was on the wrong track, but at the same time i felt i had no other option. I felt trapped. In hindsight, i should have just left and saved myself the devastation that i eventually became. I spent 13 months in a state of panic, depression and turmoil. I didn’t eat, drink, sleep or share much of the pain inside me. I can’t blame the course completely, because i put a lot of pressure on my self. But at the same time, everyone else at the school was under the same tremendous amount of pressure as well as the threats to produce great work all of the time. Looking back, my health should never have been sacrificed for putting up with that shit. Especially as i’d eventually work for a corrupt agency that only cares about kissing the arse of corrupt brands. I could have saved myself the mental and physical torture if i had just listened to my instincts and left. Unfortunately i was in a place of fear and doing things out of fear only brings pain.
So after 13 months of this shit, i finally decided i’d had enough. My body and mind were dead. I was committed to bringing myself back to life and i didn’t care how long it would take me. I wasn’t going back.
My adrenals were burned out from lack of food, water, sleep and an immense amount of constant stress. My thyroid was out of whack and i was constantly tired. In the end my brain just couldn’t function. I felt like i couldn’t think about anything. I just wanted to stare into space.
For a long time before the advertising course, i wanted to become vegan and help the vegan community to grow. So in order to heal, i fuelled my body with as much fruit and veg as i could. I slept as much as i could and also rested throughout the day. I did do 30 mins of intense exercise a day, which i probably shouldn’t have done. I realised that i had really fucked my body up and it was going to take a very long time to heal. My hormones were completely out of balance and i had caused metabolic damage. After finally nourishing myself and giving my body the rest it needed, my stomach swelled to the point where i looked massively pregnant. Forget 9 months pregnant, i looked like i was 19 months pregnant! There was so much swelling, which was mainly fluid retention. It’s like punching your fist into a wall. The first thing your body does is swell in order to fix it. Apparently, depending on the amount of damage done, it can take months to years to heal.
So here i am healing myself from severe metabolic damage/hormone imbalance. The most importantly thing is nourishing your body with a high carb whole foods vegan diet. It’s really important to eat an unlimited amount - making sure you eat 2500-3000 + calories (for a female) in order to give your body the nourishment it needs to heal. It’s equally important to drink 2 litres + water everyday and get plenty of sleep and rest.
I’ve been healing myself for nearly 10 months and i’m still swollen. I’ve already broken down a number of times because i’ve had enough and i want to be completely happy and healthy again. It gets a bit much when you’re sick of wearing oversized jumpers to hide the swelling. It’s a long road to recovery.
I can’t wait to heal. I’m doing everything i possibly can to help myself and i will never let anything destroy my health ever again. I don’t know what i’m going to do career wise but right now i couldn’t care less.
