Ain't no problem when I'm the equation
Presence noted, observation
I'm not new here, reborn creation
Come and find me, sendin' location
Enlightened, they call me a siren
Through them I receive my guidance
Don't keep it all in, don't fight it
Fire to a flame, ignite it
Rules make me more defiant
I will never be compliant
Yeah, I got it down to a science
They say eyes are the window to the soul, I disagree. Music provides much more insight into someone’s inner feelings, struggles, triumphs, and failures. The lyrics tell the story of our lives. They tell of loves we have lost and loves we have found. Struggles we have survived and struggles that nearly killed us.
They speak to how we were raised; whether we were treated with compassion or cruelty. They reveal how our brains work, how they process, what makes us tick. Our wishes, our desires, our hopes and dreams - all tucked away within our musical choices.
There are songs that remind us of the old days, things that bring us hope for tomorrow, and moments to treasure today. The songs we put on repeat because they bring the feels. Songs that bring our favorite movies to life, or favorite TV shows, or our favorite stage plays. Songs that put our minds at ease or bring us closer to the Divine.
Songs passed down through generations, songs that speak to tradition, words that carry a history. Songs that carry a culture, that pass down a language, that keep alive a people who would otherwise be lost. There is power in music. Power to heal, to grieve, to bring joy, to bring life.
Go through your playlists, your listening history, what does your music say about you?
Every song is a poem. Every poem turns into a song if you let it. Poems are written by emotion, understood by mentality, listened to by accompanying musical instruments. Music is poetry in motion for the ears, heart, mind, body, and soul.
I’ve been in counseling before, but dropped out due to the sheer annoyance of all these weird exercises on paper that I was instructed to use as tools for my mental illness. Now, I am my own God damn therapist. I know what works for ME. MUSIC.
Sometimes, I listen to a song on repeat incessantly, because that song is the mood I’m in, and until or unless my mind is completely fulfilled by the lyrics and/or the musical instruments, I play it on repeat so it will soak into my mind.
I play the piano/keyboard by ear. Music is the best coping skill. Feelin’ angry? Listen to an angry song and sing along to it until you feel better. Feelin’ sad? Listen to a sad song, cry it out and listen again until you feel better. Music is more than listening. Music talks to you in an instrumental and vocal manner. Music gets under your skin, into your brain, soaks your heart, refuels your spirit, and cleanses your soul...
Music for anger: Killswitch Engage, Disturbed, Linkin Park, etc.
Music for sadness: Any sad song you enjoy listening to when you’re sad, if you need a good cry and know which song will turn on the leaky tear ducts.
Music for relaxation: Any smooth, slow, steady instrumental which lets you space out or even puts you to sleep.
I absolutely cannot sleep without the radio going at night. Pure silence is evil lurking in the mind. Silence isn’t golden; it’s torture...
Don't listen to sad music when you're sad, scream-sing You Belong To The City by Glenn Frey in the car and pretend you're the baddest mother****** out there.
To lovely humans who were excluded from invitations, left behind when they tied their shoes, forced to walk in the grass when the sidewalk was full, spoken over when you tried to contribute, whispered about or laughed at, given side-eye when you tried to fit in.... you are so worthy of love.
We are made for dreaming, for wandering the earth
For what we have is all we need
Framed inside a system
Made to praise the tame
A leash to keep our will restrained
Drowning in the shadows, of the wonders we have built
We are
The ashes and the seeds
Spirit of the water, let the rain pour down on me
We know
Our essence is the key
