the unnamed mc believed their curse formed a holy groupmind.
if mc's curse affects everyone the same way, is it too presumptuous to say they may have killed several people? maybe even hundreds if their temple served a larger population?
they may have used their curse haphazardly, convinced distorting the minds of others was somehow a good thing.
but what if the curse doesn't affect everyone in the same way? mr chokey was jeff-the-killer-ified due to it, but maybe that doesn't happen to everyone. if it did, why would any religious organization think it appropriate to use on its patrons? unless it's a very out-there cult, i suppose + it's also not unheard of for sermons to get a little crazy (speaking in tongues, exorcisms, snake churches, etc) so maybe unnamed mc's superiors thought the curse's effects appropriate after all?
so then how many people did they touch? just a few? dozens? hundreds? did all those touched have to be killed, or did they kill others? was every sunday at church a bloodbath???
how much blood is on the unnamed mc's hands????
did the alchemist and the hound have specifics like that in their background? lmk pls!!

It is vitally, vitally important that Clark Kent is boring.
I don't mean 'boring' in an inherently bad way. A desk job is boring. Data analysis is boring. Due process is boring. All of these things are imperative for a functioning society but almost nobody will ever be praised for them.
When my car got stolen a year ago, the guy who took it stole a bunch of other stuff too. I was sitting with a cop in a backroom of the campus police station for almost an hour while he was doing paperwork (to make sure everyone would get their stuff back), and at one point he looked up at me and he said, "sorry about this. It's not all shootouts and car chases like on TV."
And I almost said, "well, due process is sexy" (I didn't, for obvious reasons). But he looked surprised when I told him I thought due process was pretty cool. Like nobody is supposed to think due process is cool. Things are only cool if they're glamorous or flashy.
The guy who stole my car was horribly addicted to meth. The sheriff told me, "you should press charges so we can put him away for as long as possible."
The sheriff was lost in a world of heroes and villains. He was the "hero." The addict was the "villain." But the person who helped people was the guy at a desk, who went back over the mile long paper trail and returned every stolen item to its owner. The important stuff is when some guy in an office writes an algorithm to save endangered whales, or when the third double blind test finally shows sufficient evidence for the efficacy of a new cancer treatment. The goose that actually lays the golden egg almost never cackles.
This is why the 'Glasses' comic is so important, to me. We live in a world which glorifies exciting acts of heroism but not "boring" ones. We live in a world that thinks people like Clark Kent aren't important, when they're often doing the most important work, solving the systemic issues, saving people who aren't lost yet. Sometimes we need firefighters, but in a perfect world, we'd only need safety inspectors.
And sure, Superman is necessary within the story. There are disasters and villainy he can prevent. There are lives he can save. But being Superman is ultimately a terrible sacrifice, and if the heroism wasn't necessary he'd be Clark Kent all day. That's what makes him not a cop: he's not enjoying the car chases and shootouts. He avoids letting things get 'interesting' at all costs. He avoids glory.
The comic Strong Female Protagonist (by Brennan Lee Mulligan and Molly Ostertag, BRING IT BACK) has several fascinating pieces of philosophy on superheroes and society, but my favourite is this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kal-el, living solar battery, isn't just someone who contributes to society from the outside or the top. He plugs away at boring, everyday kindnesses just like other humans. (This can make for great contrasts with Lex Luthor, who is the epitome of a light bulb person and could never understand why Superman would want to be a battery.)
Clark Kent is boring. Clark Kent plays things by the book. Clark Kent is sexy in the same way that due process is sexy, and any character who thinks the Clark Kent side is 'less than' the Superman side, is textually a goddamn idiot. "No glory save honour" and he will always have both.

Steve Rogers as a character is about examining the contradictory state of masculinity and queerness in a society that condemns you for both by the way. If you even care.

Do you ever think how Series 5 is defined by Merlin seeing that vision of Camlann, of Mordred stabbing Arthur, of Arthur falling?
Much like how Morgana changes when the Cailleach tells her about Emrys, paired with her own vision of Camlann, Merlin changes when he is given a similar vision, similar knowledge.
Merlin is darker already after the 3 year time skip, but the entire series you see him slip into this version of himself that is hardly recognisable, even when you compare him to his characterisation in S4.
But it's that vision, the actions he takes with Mordred, how he behaves with Uther's spirit, with the Disir, with brainwashed!Gwen, with Gaius when he tries to prod at what Merlin has become, even with how he acts around Finna...
It's something that knocks me down every time I watch a bit of Series 5, any scene with Merlin feels like I'm watching a man at his very limit. Like he's so close to straight up murder I think.
Much like how Arthur says in S5Ep1, betraying their beliefs is what would destroy everything they've strived for.
And if you look at Ep5, Ep11, yeah, yeah that's exactly what happens with Merlin. He's so darkened by his destiny, so determined to do almost anything to protect and save Arthur, that he betrays himself.
And that ties into how Merlin is the light to Morgana's darkness. Where Merlin changes because of love and his will to do good overall, Morgana changes because of hatred and her will to do everything to succeed, even hunt her own - which includes her search for Emrys.
It's just !!!!! because I love how Merlin acts in Series 5. It's the little things too, like the way he puts on his jacket when sneaking out to meet with Finna, the way he's so smug when he says Mordred has beguiled them all, the way he stares at brainwashed!Gwen when she's about to accuse him, the way he snarls at Uther's spirit.
I love him, I love him so much, I could talk about Series 5 Merlin all day, he's just perfect!

one thing i love about universes with feral/quadrupedal animals is when they redesign items familiar to us to better fit characters who don't have hands. like year they can't wear bags the same way we do so they instead have harnesses/saddles like this cause of course they would:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
or using latch doorknobs OR EVEN swinging doors being more commonplace. animals like cats and dogs can open those easier in real life so translating that into a fictional world is a fun idea. why would a world full of mainly no-thumb-havers even bother with round knobs lol
oooo or the issue of sanitation because if you are using your paw/hooves/etc to walk....are you expected to wash them anytime you use them like hands or does the general population just ignore that because "hell we all do it". is there a mix of reactions because of cultural differences? how do winged creatures like bats and birds deal with...any of this????
all the unique ways they could build weapons and armor...do they have artificial horns or claws they could put on? how practical would a wielding a sword/spear via your mouth be???
also when everything like architecture or furniture is scaled down or altered for quads. is super fun visually as well. it makes my brain go: ":)" every single time

I have no idea where my preference for some british spellings came from but I simply refuse to give them up.
Like, GRAY just sounds like the label of a crayon. Simple & boring. Flat. Idk. This word gives me nothing. Not a fan.
But GREY? Suddenly I'm seeing foggy mornings. Overcast skies. Dim, cozy interiors. I can smell fresh rain and tea. I love grey.

IMO Miles and Hobie actually look similar enough to justify Actually Miles Is Young Hobie fanstuff and yet I haven't seen any
Same eye color
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hairline and eyebrows are different but those are things that can be shaped
Tumblr media
I thought Miles had just rounded lips but even that's not right. And it's not as if Hobie's don't even out sometimes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The face lines
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even their ears are similar enough I can't say anything against it and ears are like super individual
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Edit. Differences that age and stress maybe can't account for:
I think Miles has bigger ears? And maybe his lobes are more detached?)
((edit edit. I think the back of Hobie's jaw is shorter?? And the base of it longer????))
