i think one of the big reasons i latched on to spiderbit was because they got together early on in the story and then spent the rest of the time ridiculously insanely in love. in most of the media i've gotten into that has romance to some extent, rarely are the characters already established. usually the story is about them getting together, and once they do, either the story ends or we don't get to spend a lot of time with them in an established relationship. so when there's a canon queer (BILINGUAL!!!) couple who get married less than two months after they meet and spend every waking minute besotted with each other to a near unbearable extent it's just,,, so satisfying. it's like getting to watch the epilogue to my favourite characters i've always wanted except this is the MAIN STORY!!!

I also am a huge fan of the Percy Jackson series and Trials of Apollo (by Rick Riordan), though I'm usually more of a gritty/dark fantasy fan (like Game of Thrones)!

About my Writing!🏹⌛

I write fictional works mostly in the genre of fantasy (high fantasy/epic fantasy/dark fantasy/historical fantasy/urban fantasy, etc. You name it!) and science fiction (space opera/cyberpunk/superhero, etc).

My works usually revolve around themes such as epic quests, secrets, adventure, rebels fighting an oppressive system, sibling bonds, acceptance/respect, outcasts, and much, much more! I love fluff and whump equally, and though my stories tend to focus on serious topics (or at least darker/heavier themes) within a fantasy/sci-fi setting, I like to have a good bit of humor, lighthearted fun, and comedy to my stories to lighten up the mood!

okay guys hello hi so a (more serious) post before we’re back to the sillies but like I’ve seen a bit of this in the QSMP community recently and I feel like it needs to be addressed

you’re free to dislike a creator/cc’s fanbase, but don’t lump them all together. Every fanbase has its different parts, and that means that not everybody is the same. I’ve seen this most with Wilbur and Phil mains, how people are like “oh you’re oblivious and don’t care to watch other streamers” or whatever it is, and often they get accused of summing characters/creators up to all they know them as through Phil or Wilbur or their relationships with other characters. This isn’t to say that doesn’t happen, but it’s not nearly as common as many seem to think!

This is coming from someone who has been watching Phil for going on four years now; we know more than you think, and often there are actual reasons for why we don’t watch other ccs. For me, it’s because I can rarely tune in when people are actually live thanks to school and work and such, so I take to watching vods and clips to keep caught up on the events. I am also not fully bilingual (English, and I speak partial Spanish but fast Spanish still confuses me sometimes) which makes it hard to watch people like the Brazilian or French players (I don’t speak either language) outside of clips where they’re playing with the English or Spanish speakers! As a result, my knowledge of many of them (Mike, Bagi, Antoine, etc) is pretty limited. I try my best to keep up with everyone on character stuff, but it can be hard if we’re busy. Another thing is that a large part of (especially) Phil’s fanbase are adults, who have families or college or work and they can’t always keep up with every minute detail or trait of characters, and I know this is true for many other cc’s fanbases as well.

of course, everybody is allowed to have their own opinions, and it’s okay if you aren’t a fan of a cc or their fans! All I’m asking is that we don’t hate on those creators or their fans, especially if it’s because you’ve had not great experiences with some of their fans. Often I think the former DSMP members fans are seen as stupid little kids who are toxic and childish, while in reality most of us are over 16 or even adults. Phil, Foolish, Slime, Quackity, etc were never really the problematic part of the dsmp fanbase, which was kind of split into Techno’s friends and their fans (who were always pretty chill for the most part) and then dream’s friends and their fans (who were and still are pretty problematic a lot of the time). I never was a huge dsmp enjoyer, so I never really watched the lore and preferred to watch their other stuff, but I always disliked the dream team and their little group, they always rubbed me the wrong way.

I only truly watch Phil’s streams, but I’ve taken up watching Cellbit and Fit as well, even if I can’t understand Cellbit sometimes, so remember that we won’t know everything niche about characters because of the language barriers! Don’t be a dick or rude to people who are unaware of certain parts of lore and such because they don’t watch multiple creators, we want to keep the QSMP fandom a chill safe place where people don’t feel hated or excluded just because of which creator(s) they watch, so in summary just be nice to everyone and don’t hate on people just because they don’t do things the same way as you. This community was created with the purpose of bringing people together and breaking barriers, so let’s try and keep that moral in mind while interacting with other fans!

TLDR: you’re free to dislike creators or their fans, just don’t lump them all together and say they’re all clueless or don’t care about any other characters! Let’s keep the point of the QSMP fandom what Quackity intended—breaking language barriers and bringing people together/lifting them up instead of putting them down :)

Youre right that most Canadians speak English, the two official languages there are English and French. I was born and raised in Quebec, where the only official language is French despite being part of Canada. Quebec has a law where if you start speaking English in class the teacher must send you to a torture chamber and chop off your limbs (Im 100% serious, I had 3 friends who went through this and I have images as evidence but I cant post them here because theyre too graphic for tumblr so you'll have to trust me)

Anyways schools in Quebec still have English as a mandatory class regardless. When I was young before entering school my dad would show me old cartoons he knew in English and Id have fun copying how the characters spoke. When entering school I did a pretty good job at pretending I was fluent with my pronunciation so schools automatically put me in advanced English classes where they only do like... literary analysis and stuff like that because they assumed I already knew the basics. So I managed to survive without knowing jack shit about basic grammar, how average people speak, stuff like that. When I talk online I always have google translate open so people will sometimes beat my ass for the way I word things but I kinda stopped giving a fuck trying to explain myself because in the end Im trying my best to communicate in a language Im less familiar with.

Even then there are still many people who speak English where I live, majority are bilingual French/English but some exclusively speak French and vice versa. My parents were born and raised in Algeria so the 2 languages they know is Arabic and French (except for my dad who also knows broken English) and since they absolutely didnt want to move to France they settled for France lite (Quebec) but yeah I think that even if my parents didnt move to Quebec Id end up knowing French in one way or another unfortunately. I dont really have a Quebecer accent neither do I have an accent from France, closest thing would be how Algerians speak French.

incredible chaser game w moments (part 2) up to & incl. episode 4

the most homophobic breakup you've ever seen. just, unholy behavior. on fucking god itsuki i know you had good intentions but you're the worst for doing it like that !!!!!!!!! at least let her down easy !!!!! if i was 22 and my gf of 4 years did that to me i'd fucking go insane as well

the elevator stopped working ➡️ you are trapped in with the person you hate ➡️ you are forced to sit it out and face your fears together, ultimately bringing you closer both emotionally & physically. i love this trope and i didn't know i needed it here, but it was great. step 1 to the meowmeow-ification of fuyu complete

my prediction of itsuki running into & taking care of little tsuki and the two of them then being found by fuyu, resulting in an awkward and heartbreaking scene, came true exactly like that. i think this scene was genuinely so well done and well acted, it broke my heart. i think this was the scene that really got me to say Damn, I'm invested in this now...

^ I'm still waiting for Itsuki to bring up the similar names in conversation though. like you need to talk about that

"she's a classic tsundere, after all" - fuyu, who has been severly harassing her subordinates at work (again, there seems to be no HR department at this company) being written off as a "tsundere" by the rest of the team - I mean, you're not wrong, but you should still file a complaint against her.

fuyu's husband Kouu is the nicest man on earth. my man doesn't deserve ANY of this. he even calls her dongyu. he even calls his wife by her real fucking name like the bar is so low

fuyu treats him so badly too, man, i genuinely felt bad watching it. were the 5 years of marriage all like this? was he always just a means to you getting your revenge? i'm sick. i hope they can make up by the end of the show and have a real conversation about their feelings and relationship.

fuyu & itsuki keep having insanely homoerotic moments in front of god and everyone on earth, I'm starting to believe the only person with a gaydar in this company is the photographer from the other office. the fact that you two haven't been found out yet is honestly a massive plot hole (lmao)

has itsuki eaten anything else but sweets (cake, in particular?) on screen yet? apart from the homemade meal at the hayashi's, whenever there's a scene of her alone or with her grandma, she's always eating cake. i wonder if it will come up at some point, but it's just something i noticed. no shade though girl i'm also (almost) 27 and if you wanna eat cake for dinner alone at home I'm your nr1 supporter

i'm never a fan of the trope of a bilingual character breaking out into their native tongue for swearing or just randomly, but it is fun that only fuyu does it and that all the other chinese characters just don't speak mandarin at all. and i'm happy they actually cast a bilingual actress for fuyu!

episode 4 was the mid-series finale, and it definitely showed. this was the best episode so far by a pretty significant margin imo.

the. silent pleading fuyu puts on to make itsuki stay at the hayashi house. the most fucking 🥺*twirling my hair cutely* AND IT WORKS TOO BECAUSE ITSUKI IS JUST AS INSANE AS YOU ARE

i would like to talk about the best scene of this show yet. i really wished it was longer and was given even more weight. in episode 4, fuyu & itsuki are sitting in the living room together at night, so far apart that they're completely out of each other's camera shots even. i found this to be the most interesting scene so far. there was genuine tension in the shot composition, the acting, the complete absence of music. just silence and their voices. "after all, it was all my fault, wasn't it? that we ended up like this?" fuyu still deep down believes that she was the reason their relationship failed. she wasn't enough, because she's fuyu, because she's a woman. she still thinks that. my heart fucking broke in two

their fight after fuyu came back home drunk was so funny. especially with their height difference... hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby

after finally learning the truth about their break-up, fuyu is absolutely devastated. "you valued your promise to my mother more than the one you made to me?" just completely broken. after all this time sitting with these unresolved emotions, feelings of guilt and deep shame, only for that to be the reason? I feel so bad for her

the mutual love confession!!!!! i'm honestly a bit surprised it came so early, i thought they were just going to sleep together and not talk emotions first. but i'm not gonna complain (i just love mess) i'm also devastated that itsuki used suki while fuyu used the word aishiteru. my friends it's so bad for me right now (and them)

their lil afterglow convo in bed was just perfectly sweet. 1 point to fuyu, now presumably much more sobered up, for having the courage to ask if itsuki's gonna stay the night after all. girl you don't have to ask. i think she's ready for another 12 rounds. she's not going anywhere.

in conclusion:

i had a lot of thoughts on this one and i've found great joy in going deep into the twt tags for it as well. and i'm glad to see many japanese sapphics also being super vocal about the show. it's really interesting to read and interact with that side of the fandom i haven't really seen in this capacity for a (lesbian) live action show yet. i see people slowing down & brightening up footage to analyse who's taking each other's clothes off first, people just posting close-ups of Yuuka's hands, people going into Yurika's past filmography to dig up ancient clips of other sapphic roles she's played (of which there seem to be actually quite a lot?). i love to see it lmao. on a more serious note, it makes me happy to see sapphics from so far away expressing themselves similarily to myself or my other lesbian friends. it's cute!! as for cgw, part b of the series is gonna be intense, and i'm especially curious to see how they're gonna do the inevitable breakdown of fuyu again. my girl is so deep in the trenches, her temporary being on cloud 9 right now is gonna be short-lived and i want to see it happen. i hope she can really stand up for herself and make things right after all!

Life has enough angst already, I don’t need to add to it with my fics. I much prefer a happy ending. That said, since I’ve left everyone hanging on Stella Caeli for 6 months (I’m so sorry!) and it’s at a disaster cliffhanger, it would be that. I am almost done with the next installment, though, so hopefully soon it won’t be angsty either.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

Probably my first fic – a massive crossover with characters from everywhere, a healthy dose of Mary Sue-manship, a bizarre premise that turned out to be not so bizarre when six months or a year after I started it, Galaxy Quest sort of had the main plot point.

I feel like dialogue is what I do best, followed by plotting.

Action sequences. They feel very stilted to me.

The both of you are invited to your cousins birthday. So it was no surprise that at some point you started speaking in your native language with your family. Taehun was amazed by the speed with what you started translating for him. At one point he stopped listening to your translations by how much he was admiring you. You teased him about it later.

Kyungjun

You were talking to one of your friends over the phone, when he heard you. He was confused at first because he didn't know if you were speaking in english or in your native language. You were in fact speaking both. You were sitting in the kitchen while he was laying on the couch with his laptop in front of him. So in order to be able to listen to you he turned his music on his headphones down. He loved listening to you speaking in your native language.

Hyunsoo

Your date had been crushed by your mom asking if you could babysit your babysister. So now the two of you were sitting on the floor, trying to entertain a toddler. At some point you had switched to your native language to talk to your sister. Since then Hyunsoo has been sitting on the floor with a toy in his hand just looking at you with sparkling eyes. You excused yourself for a second to get you something to drink. „Your pretty“ he suddenly hears in broken korean from your sister. He smiles at her. His date didn't get ruined at all.

Junhyeok

You were watching a series in your native language and you just couldn't get over how oblivious the main character was. You talked to your friend about it before, and now you started recording a voice message to said friend with Junhyeok listening in on it. You were talking fast and he had no clue what you were talking about. But he knew that it was the prettiest thing he had ever heard. (Next to your laugh and voice in general.) „What?“ you asked as you finished, you had caught him starring. „Nothing.“ he says. Little did you know his heart was racing.

Hwi

Your grandparents had invited you to dinner, forcing you to bring your boyfriend with you. So now you were sitting at the table with an enormous amount of food infront of you. Your grandpa had started to talk to Hwi in a very broken Korean, leaving you to talk to your grandma. As the hours passed Hwi started to listen to your conversation. He understood not even half of it but just listening to you made his day better. He made a mental note to learn your language later.

Sungjun

Being bilingual isn't easy sometimes and Sungjun completely understood that. But when you just started talking to him in your native language he didn't quite know what to do. So he just let you talk. Even though he didn't understand a word. He was always fascinated at how well you spoke both languages. “It would be great if you could say everything one more time in korean.“ You stopped smiling. You swear you saw him on Duolingo a few days later.

Okay so while I was reading through the tags and replies of the language post i got reminded of a memory. Everyone knows the russian words 'cyka blyat' but as someone whose country is full of bilinguals/trilinguals I see a different word with the same letters used that is bad and I have to take a double-take.

Basically reader who is still learning teyvatian language (bear with me), stumbles across a sign (a shop, a random sign, etc.), sees an english bad word, SUS moment only to find its a harmless, innocent teyvatian word mistaken as an english one.

(If you ask the twins they would either slowly but surely die of laughter or wheeze so bad they have to be revived. Cue other characters of your choosing wheezing as well or turned into the equivalent of Windows XP shut-down jingle)

definitely super alternate universe, the premise is george is a famous semi washed up actor who goes back to his hometown in missouri to film a movie that could bring back his career, where dream has been waiting for him after he left, now owner of a coffee shop they frequented as teenagers. i actually hadn't read this before but i liked it! the worldbuilding was easily the best part for me and i like dnfs characterizations in this one

requiem for an idiot in love - orphaned

dnf meet as small actors during an audition, becoming friends, falling into domesticity and getting casted together with everyone on set thinking they're a couple until they end up together. super cute, one note is i dont like how the writer wrote q's dialogue (not a super major character but there), it's very babys first bilingual character but it's easy to ignore he's there lol. love the dnf dynamic here

dnf notting hill au where dream is a famous actor who visits georges small bookshop in london and they run into each other, falling into a whirlwind romance. ive rec'ed this one before, i just love the dynamics between george and the rest of the characters (kq warning) but most of all dream. if you know the plot of notting hill you already know how it goes but i think the dnf dynamic is what sets this fic apart from the source material

nepotism, baby! - hayloftown

george is a famous nepotism actor who gets sent to dreams family's farm by his father to lay low in anticipation of a big pr scandal. i like the worldbuilding and character work in this one, really getting into dnf's brains and what theyre thinking as they navigate their relationships. definitely more of a further alternate universe than some of these other ones (as in it feels more like ocs than dnf sometimes) and the actor aspect isn't as focused on as much as the general tribulations of fame and being in the public eye but i still include it because it was a fun read

george is an actor in LA struggling to get roles when he meets dream, a famous established actor who has disappeared from the public eye for a year. i like that this one has a lot more of the acting aspect, though it can feel a bit dramatic at times if thats not your jam. references to drugs, panic attack scenes, implied abuse, and feral boys inclusion

My Review of What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez

BookTok has once again gotten me to read another book, which honestly, I’m a little upset it’s this easy to get me but we’re here now. One of my unofficial reading goals this year was to read more books by Latinx authors, since I’m Latina and it's disappointing how little of my “catalogue” is occupied by authors with my background, so now I’m here.  

What the River Knows takes us back to the 1880s in the height of European tourism to Egypt after the British takeover. Inez lives in Argentina, she’s the daughter of two Egyptologists who have mysteriously died while out in the desert prompting her to go to Egypt to try and solve the mystery of their deaths and unwittingly gets involved in the hunt for Cleopatra’s tomb alongside her uncle who’s hiding secrets of his own. Inez must tread carefully as she balances solving two mysteries without knowing who to trust while fighting her burgeoning feelings for her uncle’s assistant.  

I’m going to be honest with you all and say that this, the book was good, it wasn’t great, it was entertaining for sure, but I did feel the writing style was a bit lacking. Now this isn’t a dig at the author or anything, I picked up a YA book so honestly, I should’ve excepted YA style writing, which I wouldn’t normally be mad about it but the last fourth of the book was written so well that it made me question what was going on for the rest of it. The fact that there was great writing and potential there plus the cliffhanger ending (which if anyone wants to know my theories let me know) is what is going to get me to read the second book. I honestly have high hopes for the sequel so I will be very impatiently waiting for it to come out in November.  

I think my biggest complaint with this book is the love interest, Whit, and like there is nothing particularly wrong as a character, I just didn’t really like him, like I don’t hate him, but he was just there. This guy is the most basic love interest, he’s literally the same man as all other YA men: white, tall, brooding, flirts to mask his true feelings, has “touch her you die” energy, soft only for her, and is always smirking. And like, I’m not shaming you if you like when the love interest checks most/all those boxes but I’m begging authors to please write something else, I’m tired of this. Why does this man have to be over six feet tall? He literally at one point mentions how Inez doesn’t even reach his shoulder, and I don’t get why that was necessary when the average height for men in the UK at the time was about 5’6” (yes, I did Google this), there was no need for him to be abnormally tall, he could’ve been 5’10” and nothing would change. Maybe I’m too unnecessarily upset and annoyed about this but really tall male love interests with small and petite female main characters a personal pet peeve of mine. 

Another pet peeve I had was the whole “forgetting to switch between languages” thing that Inez was doing the whole book. Though I do get the fact that she primarily speaks Spanish so switching to speaking English regularly was a bit of a learning curve but her constantly going “gracias, I mean, thank you” made me want to rip my hair out. And I’m saying this as a Spanish/English bilingual, this doesn’t happen, more often than not I just forget a word entirely and I don’t forget to switch between languages because that’s not a thing!! It’s giving 2010s cringe, you all know the posts on here that I’m talking about, it made me angry and was honestly a thing that made me have to put the book down a couple of times and take a breath before I continued.  

My complaining aside, I do think this is a good read, it’s fairly easy to follow once you get over the repetitiveness of the first half of the book, once you get to the halfway point it really does start to become more than a basic YA book and you get wrapped up in the mystery of it all. I know I’m not doing a super good job of selling it but trust me, this is a fun read to pick up if you’re in between books and its plot is something that is very unlike anything else on the market right now. I give it a fun with lots of potential for greatness out of ten.

I honestly don’t know where to start with this, there’s just so much that I want to talk about. I'll just do a good old rapid fire: Whit is weird, he’s such an odd man, what do you mean you’re a lord, the fuck? I didn’t trust Inez’s mom from the beginning, she had weird vibes and so did Inez’s uncle, they’re both strange, the magic system they had going on was super cool and creative, I cannot wait to see how it expands in the second book.  

Something that has been bugging me this whole time, and I don’t know if I’m thinking about it too hard, but how was it that Inez and Elvira were told they looked like twins when it’s stated multiple times that Inez looked just like her mother, but Elvira is related to Inez through her father so they shouldn’t look anything alike. I get the whole bamboozle business with the dress and causing her to get kidnapped but like, Inez was going around telling strangers her name was Elvira so when Elvira eventually got to Egypt and introduced herself, she wouldn’t have known that Inez was using her name. Also, when Inez first got to the hotel and was talking to Mr. Burton shouldn’t he have been able to clock she’s her mother’s daughter based on the whole “they look the same” thing? I don’t know that part of the plot was strange, I feel like there were some glaring inconsistencies that if I thought about too hard wouldn’t add up, maybe it’s just me though. I do think that Elvira died unnecessarily, and it was quite evil of Inez’s mom to set her up like that.  

Something I did love, which I will say nice things now so I’m not being completely negative all the time, is how immersed I felt in the location. As I was reading, I did genuinely feel like I was in Cairo and exploring these ancient ruins with Inez, the way that the story was written shows how the author did her research. Every location was described so beautifully, which added to the ambience of the story on top of the couple of drawings thrown in of certain locations and objects just added another level of understanding to the book.  

I do want to take a moment and talk about how much I liked Inez as a character, though she does fit some stereotypes of female leads, she felt like a real person throughout the course of the book. Yes, she is stubborn, but she is stubborn to a fault, the way she was so determined to get on her uncle’s expedition to find out what happened to her parents ended up backfiring on her when she accidentally betrayed them by helping her mother steal artifacts. She knows about ancient Egyptian history but isn’t an expert so there are times when she has to have help from her uncle or Whit as to what is going on. She is such a real person that it really adds to the narrative and though there are times she may feel annoying or unlikeable you cannot help but sympathize with her as she juggles her grief with this new environment and new people.  

I honestly cannot wait for the second book to come out later this year, I have high hopes as to what is going to happen and how the story is going to end. Let me know if you want a full post on my thoughts on the whole Whit thing from the end, that was honestly such a good plot twist, and it has some historical accuracy if it is what I’m thinking it is. I do recommend it to everyone, diversify your reading friends.

thank u! since it's the two of them, i'll put it under a cut. i'll try and follow a similar format for the both of them. link to the mike answer. keith will have vague references to abuse so i'll put him last.

luwel (nuzleaf) is 34 years old, slightly older than mike. similar to mike, he originally lived in the wild village of apple grove, but now lives in verdant village.

both of his parents, tangrowth and shiftry, are alive. his father, tangrowth, was a civilised doctor (civilised = pokemon in towns, speak common etc, not wild mons), who came across an injured wild mon in the woods decades ago; he'd be quick to be accepted into the wild community for his actions and would slowly begin to introduce the language of common into apple grove (learning wildspeak in the process). both mike and luwel are bilingual (keith only speaks common). luwel would be raised with the intent of also becoming a medic/doctor of some sort -- he still retains a fair amount of knowledge, but ultimately didn't follow down that path entirely. he provides medical support for the team.

he lives with keith and mike in verdant village. originally, they live in guild housing, but luwel eventually retires from the team and works as a berry farmer instead; he doesn't buy the house or anything, because he works as a farmer under the guild. this means as long as he's providing food for the guild, he can keep his home & land. this is technically only luwel's house (and sune (floragato/meowscarada), his s/o's), keith and mike are just freeloaders who show up and sleep there sometimes, since they're always travelling around. sorry i forgot to mention he also has an adopted daughter called sochi (tinkatink/tuff/ton)

his moveset is based more around functionality within the world; careful, early bird. foul play, grassy terrain, razor leaf and leaf blade. he fights when he needs to, but doesn't usually get too involved. in "present day", he uses razor leaf as a means of mass-harvesting berries from plants, since he has good control over the move. instead of using leaf blade regularly, he channels leaf blade through a stick, forming more of a scythe than anything. i've never depicted him using foul play, but it's part of his moveset specifically in reference to the fact he's the team's tactician. it's relevant, trust me.

his link move is the combination of grassy terrain+leaf blade, which works both offensively and defensively. physically, it is the weakest of the three link moves, which checks out given that he's the weakest member of the team. leaf blade's half turns to controlling multiple blades of grass that function like tendrils, originating from the grassy terrain -- they usually aren't used for offense. instead, they're used as healing bandages or defensive walls. link moves in this manner, due to their power, will sap the strength of the user -- keith and mike can both typically stay standing after using theirs (especially since it's less resource-intensive), but luwel will almost always pass out when his link move has subsided.

as a farmer, he is also a merchant. he butts head with my other merchant, big mal (cradily), practically every day. just learned i don't even have mal's main ref image on tumblr! whoops.

luwel is autistic. he has the shortest fuse and is the quickest to snap, and is also quick to break down. he experiences sudden mood changes a lot. he's a little fucked in the head, in that if a dangerous situation becomes too stressful for luwel, he detaches himself from reality entirely and falls under the belief that he's currently living out a dream/fiction. there is at least two instances (second already linked) where luwel is in the presence of actual, legitimately dangerous individuals who kill, but his mind snaps from stress and fear that it becomes a fictional performance to him. the latter eventually leads to him losing an arm. he is commonly depicted as not being all there mentally, but he's actually pretty grounded, all things considered. a very large factor of this is his desire to eat bug pokemon, specifically ledyba, due to his general fascination with food (he will talk about preparing other pokemon, but exclusively in a hypothetical sense). it isn't considered cannibalism, because they aren't the same species.

he has some passive hobbies. luwel is an avid yaoi consumer. more often than not, he'll be depicted mid-conversation holding the local newspaper. he's always interested in what's going on around him, and will occasionally try to catch up on world lore & history if he's got the time. he'd consider becoming a history teacher, but it's not really something he wants as a job. luwel loves inventory management, so he enjoys setting up the team's inventory for jobs & setting up his own inventory for market sales. he is religious, in a very passive sense, believing that legendary pokemon do tend to towns and villages and the likes. luwel just barely falls shy from the agnostic umbrella, having a personal belief in xerneas, as he grew up with the belief that xerneas tended to the woods he was raised in. he follows particular beliefs regarding maintaining the forest's bounty. where most mons might be depicted saying terms like "oh, for arceus' sake", luwel uses xerneas' name instead. he has multiple outfits, but is most commonly depicted in his blue jacket, with luwel only wearing a black and green jacket as a means of images representing the timeline where he's still part of the team. luwel likes to climb around a lot. he usually climbs over keith.

he retires from the team as he is physically a lot weaker than his brothers. luwel makes the personal choice to not evolve into shiftry, primarily because he's rather happy how he is, and he quite enjoys having the use of hands. there is a What If au where luwel evolves and stays part of the team, becoming one of the heads of verdant village's guild (keith becoming the guildmaster). the two designs for mike and keith for this what-if situation ended up becoming their regular designs, because i preferred them in comparison to their previous designs (where keith only had a cape, and mike had nothing).

ok now i start talking about keith

keith, cacturne, is 33 years old, and is the youngest of his brothers. he originated from the sand continent, but travelled to the water continent alone as a young cacnea. he would get lost in the woods and be attacked by a group of pidove, at a similar time where seedot and shroomish (luwel and mike didn't have names) were straying almost a little too far from home. they fought off the pidove together, formed a very strong bond being just young kids and all that, and keith was taken back to apple grove, where he lived with wild pokemon for a few years. as a cacturne, he lives in verdant village, but he was a resident for a short while before his brothers were.

keith does not know who his parents are. his mother, cass (cacturne), exists within the world and lives on the sand continent, but i've never had much thought about his father. his mother's partner, butcher (spidops), would function as The Dad That Stepped Up, were they ever to meet. currently, keith and cass only cross paths once, wherein both him and his mother lack any emotional attachment to eachother. keith feels somewhat empty after this encounter, as he expected it to feel a lot more fulfilling. he concludes that he's most happy with his current family, and doesn't need to form a familial bond with someone who never felt like family to him before. his father figure is guildmaster rime (mr rime, design updated since last tumblr post), verdant guild's guildmaster. the two are incredibly close, with rime genuinely considering keith to be his son; keith is told that when rime retires, he will inherit the guildmaster title and responsibilities. despite coming off as stupid and reckless half of the time, keith is an incredibly level-headed leader and an excellent commander under extreme pressure, so he's actually the perfect fit for the job.

keith's drive to be part of a rescue team comes from his very early upbringing in the sand continent. as a young cacnea who never really had a home, he would wander around a lot, and get lost frequently. on one particular occasion, he would be rescued by an escavalier and galarian rapidash duo, who talked to him in such a way that inspired keith to want to help others as soon as possible. very early on in his life, he comes across silica (hatenna/hattrem; still uncertain on when they meet). she offers him a place in a "guild", which isn't actually a guild at all, but is in fact a bandit's group. under the guise of doing good for the "guild", keith is forced to commit a lot of crimes as a child. silica becomes extremely possessive of keith because he's so easy to manipulate; she berates him often as a means of trying to make him work harder. it is worth noting that silica's actions do get worse, and she is considered to be keith's abuser. however, i don't like to detail anything further in regards to what happens between them (there is NOTHING sexual, i personally would never depict CSA with characters). usually, when i draw keith and silica in the same image together, it should be somewhat clear that they do not have a positive relationship.

when meeting guildmaster rime, he recognises the bag keith brought with him (brandishing a symbol of the bandit group; rime's been around, he recognises these kinds of things). he knows keith is a lost and misguided child, and takes him under his wing to raise as his own. verdant village's symbol - a green diamond on a black background - is based on keith's existence, although keith never actually realised this, since it's existed for as long as he could remember. he always just thought it was coincidental.

keith's moveset is entirely offensive. naughty, water absorb. thief, pin missile, bullet seed, needle arm. keith's approach is to hit hard and worry about shit later. he's intended to be a ranged attacker to make up for his lack of speed, but it's physical strength and defences that he actually excels at (again, he's just slow, so he's not actually able to punch all that well in a fight). his link move is needle arm+pin missile, which is a deadly single-target link move. whilst mike's link move hits a whole room for large AoE damage, keith's link move is devastating for a singular target. it's essentially pin missile with incredibly large, dangerously pointed pins. if he intended to kill, it would drill large holes through another mon's body (undertale logic; moves will only cause serious injury if the intent is to kill, otherwise it's just an Energy Deal that makes pokemon faint). it's used as both a melee and ranged attack; ranged is shooting large pins, whilst melee is more or less having a spiked baseball bat for an arm (there's more spikes than a normal needle arm would provide). his water absorb is brought up often.

he's a kleptomaniac and alcoholic. keith can't help but get into petty theft often, and is heavily swayed by jewels and riches. he doesn't have much of a concept of risk when it comes to himself. most of his free time is genuinely spent hanging out at the local pub/tavern/bar drinking, which is where he'd meet his eventual bf, william (bisharp) (ignore my old dnd oc in the tag lol). one of keith's personal favourite gags is being unable to flip someone off and asking someone else to do it instead.

there is a period in which keith experiences near-death, which sets mike off mentally, resulting in mike killing another pokemon. keith recovers from this. he's not one to think before he speaks, so he'll sometimes make comments that can reflect poorly on mike, making mike feel horrible. it is worth noting that both of mike's brothers forgive him for the killing.

he is emotionally void. that is, specifically to say, keith experiences a lot of positive emotions, but he can't comprehend the idea of negative ones. he experiences true anger, rarely. keith does not cry or experience sadness: he only feels hollow and empty, unable to grasp what's wrong. it's incredibly difficult to get under his skin for this reason, unless you target his brothers. it takes him around 30 years to understand that he experienced trauma and abuse, and meeting silica again is the first time he's ever had his emotions unearthed - but he still doesn't know how to process them. his lack of negative emotions actually allows him to mega evolve with ease when the time comes; i am of the belief that mega evolution can be strenuous on a pokemon's mental state and can lead to sudden violent outbursts, however, keith can keep his "emotions" in check, so he has much greater control over mega evolution than others might.

he is unintentionally very intimidating. well, sometimes it's intentional.

🙇 - A headcanon about Luffy

This ties into some of my larger worldbuilding HCs but I headcanon that Luffy is very solidly bilingual and it trips a lot of people up when they realize. More specifically he speaks the most common East Blue language (most common language in the world/what most papers are printed in, just the East Blue version with all the little nuances) and the native Goan language.

Most of the crew found out in Alabasta when Ace showed up and he and Luffy reverted to it on a few occasions, but everyone else just kinda. found out along the way. Because she didn't grow up anywhere near the East Blue Robin would love to sit Luffy down and learn it from him/teach him her native language, but so far that idea hasn't been very feasible.

Like i would say pretty much all of Oda's main characters are very recognizable on their own, which is already 40% of a good character design. Not to mention all the little quirks he's not afraid to do like Buggy's nose and whatever the hell Kid has going on.

And then subjectively speaking I've already talked about how Makino's aesthetic has literally become my aesthetic. And beyond that I genuinely don't care much?? like these blorbos are all so wonderful and there's really not a bad design. No not even post-ts Franky.

🆚 - Sub or dub?

Dub. ADHD clashes with sub and I can have the dub on in the background while I do other things (a blessing considering how long OP is). And it's not a bad dub either, they voice actors really care and there's a lot of genuine emotion and distinctiveness.

⏰ - How long have you been into One Piece?

Almost 5 years, and man does that feel old to say. I started getting into it at 14 and it never really left. I always kinda *knew* it was there because it's So Darn Big, but it wasn't until i was bored one day that I finally watched the Return to Sabaody arc in a single sitting and immediately went and watched episode 1.

And the rest is history.

Yep! I'm not big on swimming and honestly there are very few ways this could go wrong unless i get stuck with something dumb like the human-human fruit. But I'll take my chances.

grace there are 1200 episodes i can hardly remember the general areas where arcs where how am i supposed to remember individual episodes

but how about the episode that convinced 14 y/o me that this whole journey was worth it, and for me that would be episode 25/26 (don't remember which one exactly lol)

I will ALWAYS have a soft spot for Water 7 because that's when I really felt like an "official" fan, but in all honestly Sabaody is my favorite place. 11/10 would visit if the human trafficking rate would go down.

I've been pondering how to answer #17 for so long that's it's become tomorrow, twice. Anyway, here we are:

7. What is your deepest joy about writing?

I think for me it's a pretty even split between two things:

Realizing a vision. Getting that scene to move just like I imagined. Getting that dialogue to flow just like it does in my head. Getting that one line to be just as pretty or poignant as the feeling behind it.

Reader impact. Someone reading my words and feeling them deeply. Someone seeing themselves or their emotions or experiences reflected in my writing. Or for fic, someone seeing something they love or resonate with in a character in how I render them.

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

This is a tricky one! I feel like I should talk about fic (since this is a fandom blog primarily, though I should make a sideblog for my original stuff soon) and honestly I have so many fic WIPs that are roughly at the same stage of production that I'm not sure which to pick.

Plus, with fic I tend to be so focused around whatever details (canon or headcanon) that draws me to a character or dynamic that not much gets left out, because if I can't fit it in the main fic I will write a fluff snippet or something with it. Also, most of my long-form fic are pre-production or very early days, so it's hard to say what might have been left out.

So instead, since my Beverly/Deanna fic is the only long-form one that actually has chapters up on AO3, let me regale you with some random Beverly Crusher headcanons that will probably end up in the fic eventually, but have not yet:

Beverly is bi/pan. The end of the Host says nothing about her sexuality and everything about the mindfuck of your lover suddenly dying and being told this new person is them, and I will die on that hill.

Beverly has ADHD and/or whatever neurospiciness I have (jury is still out on that. In fact, jury has not yet been assembled). Like, seriously. The impulse control that makes you fly into a literal sun to prove a point. The teenage experience of saying something and not realizing you'd hurt someone's feelings. Just her vibe is the vibe of someone who is making a real effort not to move more. Do I project onto her? Yes! Am I still right? Also yes.

Beverly has very specific comfort foods and whenever she moves, she always spends a period of time wrangling the replicator into making them right. Am I still projecting because I'd probably do that? Yes.

Beverly speaks some Portuguese. Why? Because I like to make chars bilingual whenever I can, and also I speak some Portuguese so there you are.

Relatedly, I have a sorta lore-headcanon that some subset of people would struggle with listening to music through the universal translator because of the disconnect between the relative mismatch between the length of the music for a given line and the length of the (translated) lyrics (which would be more obvious with some language pairs that others, obviously). I imagine like a lot of things, some people's brains would be able to compensate for and ignore this mismatch better than others. For some reason, I hc Bev as one of those people who always switch the UT off for music because it makes her brain itch otherwise.

Beverly will always love Jack but struggles with accepting that not all her feelings for him are as noble. And reasonably so, because uuuh... he sounds like kind of a crummy spouse. Like, between canon and inference from the infrequency of promotions in Trek broadly, there's a good chance he fucked off into space while Wes was still an infant. Maybe even before he was born. And iirc the way the years work out, there's a chance Bev was still in med school while basically single mom-ing a newborn. I side-eye that man, I tell you.

I really should stop there especially since I am not actually answering the question XDD.

35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?

Hmmm, tricky. Probably the idea that adverbs should be avoided. Love me some adverbs! Same for the passive voice. Well-used passives can be so impactful!

Oh also (though I haven't seen this one as much) the idea that you shouldn't use a buncha different verbs as speech tags! Yes, they can definitely be overused but used well, you can pry "murmurs", "sighs", "grumbles" etc. from my cold, dead hands.

not in, like, a decade. certain haters in teen wolf fandom left me a bunch of unhinged comments on my derek/stiles/scott fic because weirdos used to go nuts if "sterek" fics were also tagged with other poly pairings because they didn't want to see them in the same tag

yup, kind of. not wholesale, but someone took my steve/bucky time loop fic, barely changed any of the first third of the fic, then wrote a different ending, but it was in french. so when i reported it to ao3, they said it wasn't similar enough to be plagiarism, lmao. it was definitely plagiarism.

yes!! delightfully, many many people over the years have translated my fics, mostly for star trek xi and captain america.

yup. i have two ao3 accounts for cowritten fics.

dialogue, banter, character-driven emotional narratives. i'm pretty good at writing action. sometimes i pull off a nice description

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i'm bilingual, so i have subjective picky Issues when people sprinkle in bits of another language for flavour because in my experience, bilingual speakers don't usually do that unless the other person can speak that language too. so in, like, romantic dialogue, i kinda hate it. if it's for a narrative purpose, and those characters are just speaking that language, it can be disruptive if the formatting doesn't help the reader understand. you have to code in a translation, in the BODY of the text. sticking translations in footnotes at the BOTTOM of the fic is completely unintuitive. don't do that.
