WELL I finally grew at least half a pair and decided to post these. Eclipse's pattern was done last minute so he's kinda- yeah. And don't get me started on the fact he doesn't have two sets of forelimbs-- there's no way I'm drawing that on an animal with semi-regular proportions! Such complicated designs makes it hard enough! @A@

But anyway- Sun and Moon. They're not exactly foxes rather than animatronics in this AU, but fun fact: back in Japan, they had no physical bodies! They were sentient AI projected onto a live screen to entertain, and they often frequented the forms of foxes! Y'know, 'cause foxes are important in Japan. But they could become many different things, for the sake of telling a story! I'm pretty sure that's why Hoshi has that golden "celestial" form, over on her page- probably to go along with this Emperor Sun & Samurai Moon bit my friend & I were talking about.

I've debated if these are the sort of forms they take, as far as their headspace/innerworld goes, but idk. They might alternate. Given it's a nonphysical space they could probably be whatever the hell they wanted but it's always nice to have something to default to. Hoshi's the only one that's always a fox no matter what.

TL;DR: In which Rei has constant nightmares but always had someone to cuddle him to sleep. He realizes that he and Akai aren't on that level but he's the only one available and Rei doesn't want to have a panic attack til morning. So yeah.

Cuddle Bug AU:

- Rei always had someone to cuddle him to sleep after nightmares

- the first time was when he dreamt of being abandoned by his parents, then woke up crying in his bunk bed

- one of the older kids was awake, calmed him down and hugged him to sleep because she knew what it was like

- Rei stuck with her all the way until she got adpoted

- (later Rei ran into her again while in the Academy and they kept in touch since)

- this trend continues with various people he could depend on at the time: his caretaker, some of his foster guardians, sometimes Akemi and Elena when he was in their clinic, and obviously, the zero squad.

- most notably date and hiro because date's massive and gives good hugs and hiro is cuddle size and rei feels safe with them

- blah blah blah, cannon happens, blah blah blah

- hes destroyed everytime each and every one of them got killed, and eventually he would either curl up into a ball after a nightmare having a silent panic attack til morning, or just goes to the closest cuddle buddy he has

- which most of the time is hiro, because hes like the only guy closest to him that hasnt died yet

- on days where he couldnt reach hiro rei would just go to his first cuddle buddy in the middle of the night and she'd hug him to sleep that way

- (she never complains, she has a boyfriend who's in the military and knows what kind of nightmares it gives people)

- (they got engaged and her fiance found out about rei, and was extremely understanding and became another one of his cuddle buddies too)

- (rei feels guilty of course, since hes intruding on their home and personal space, but they honestly dont mind. fiance guy was an only child and never had a sibling, and obvs fiance girl saw him as a sibling.)

- this continues trend continues even in the BO, and surprisingly, Curacao and Kir got added to the cuddle buddy list

- (Vermouth is an honorary member, depending on her mood)

- but rei still sticks with hiro most of the time tho

- (btw he told his now-married cuddle buddies that hes going undercover and he wont be able to reach them for their safety)

- (their worried of course, but rei asked kazami to keep them in the loop and kazami was like, - 'my best boss/friend actually finding a healthy coping mech and has someone to depend on? fuck yeah ofc i would.')

- rye was confused as to why scotch would always worry over bourbon whenever he's away on a mission when bourbon is the guy youd never worry about

- but then rye stumbled upon bourbon hiding in a corner when scotch's not home, eyes wide, shaking and crying silently and it physically pains him to watch it

- so yeah rye is added to the cuddle buddy list but under the emergency only category that featured giant, bold, red letters with underline and italics

- which puts him under even Curacao, Vermouth and Kir but rei actually trusts them to some degree and hes confident he can outrun them for a while

- but rye? the guy that could put a bullet to your head from ten skyscapers away?

- yeah no thanks

- Rei's utterly crushed when hiro offed himself

- look hes smart, he knows that angle the bullet was in couldnt have hit hiro from where ryes standing, but he just lost his best friend and closest cuddle buddy and somebody just happened to be a convient scape goat

- Rei runs to couple cuddle buddies to cry after that, and the two of them plus their 5 year old twins cuddled with Rei in the family convo pit thats converted into a giant pillow fort

- timeskip to current timeline

- the detective boys are added to the cuddle buddy list, so is ai (she has Rei in her list too, cuz they both understood what it feels like (plus theyve made up a long time ago)), masumi and ran (kogoro didnt like it at first and outright kicked our poor boy out when ran hugged him, but got torn into a new one by ran, conan and our cuddle family. added to the list soon after when rei came to find ran but she was away and he couldnt watch this baby-faced kid having a panic attack because hey, dad senses.)

- time skip to a few months later

- rei and akai are basically very reluctant allies (on rei's side) and very much made up besties (on akai's)

- FBI and PSB issued stakeout

- surprise surprise nightmare strikes again

- so rei had no other option but to use akai because he isnt in the mood to have a panic attack til morning, nor could he afford to

- was gonna criticize akai for being a shit cuddler but unfortunately, our tall and thin as a stick boy here was actually on date's-level of comfortness

- so yeah, rei came by to him more often since he's just geographically closest to him, and he knows he cant always bother the mouris or agasa and ai during the night since the kids have school

- akai on the other hand doesnt go to school, even if okiya subaru was required too

- and rei basically moved in every night

- yeah they are practically dating by now

- i mean, rei taking over the cooking since he insisted on thanking akai and would not condem himself to eating okiya subaru's barely edible curry 24/7?

- akai buying extra pillows and blankets for rei since he knows our blondie still gets cold at night?

- rei making coffee for akai in the morning?

- akai dragging a dusty old futon from the kudou's back closet for rei to sleep in, plus washing and cleaning it during the day for him?

- rei having a bag of work clothes over at the kudou mansion since he lives there at night and needs to go to work in the morning?

- akai dognapping haro because he read that dogs get lonely at night if they dont have their owners nearby on reddit and because he knows that rei always worries about the white fluff ball even when he cant think straight?

- them both getting each gifts on holidays and their birthdays?

- eventually cuddling in front of the tv and watching a show or movie together while spooning with a bowl of popcorn in the middle of the night?

- cheek kisses? forehead kisses? hair ruffles? courtesy of akai?

- rei basically cleaning the house from head to toe one night because he deemed akai's sniper nest to be uninhabbitable?

- comfort foods for each other well stocked in the fridge? borrowing the others coats and jackets to sleep in when the other's not home?

I had another Good Omens fanfiction dream this morning.

Basically, Crowley was due to give birth. You might ask, Pestilence, what's with you and Crowley being pregnant?.. The answer is, I don't know, and neither does my therapist.

So, Crowley's due to give birth, he's scared and in pain. Beelzebub shows up, along with a few other demons (I guess I'll look through the Key of Solomon, I remember a few have to do with healing). She told him they'll support him. I have a feeling, the dream adhered to my idea that Crowley and Beelzebub are siblings (in spite Beelzebub looking like she does in S2, so Indian).

Crowley had to change to his snake form, because while his human form was male (so he couldn't give birth without surgery, which was too dangerous), his snake form was female. The demons put him in a whelping box (genius idea). Crowley gave birth to either 4 or 6 baby snakes (apparently, they're called snakelets). It was a live birth, which, fun fact, some snakes do give (i think boa constrictors, and snake Crowley kind of looks like one, aside from the colouring). The baby snakes then morphed to human form. I don't think Crowley nearly died, but he lost a lot of blood, and got extremely exhausted. No, it probably wasn't realistic to how snakes actually give birth.

(They were far larger, though)

Oh, and at some point, Aziraphale found out, but someone (possibly Beelzebub) forbade him from coming, because an angel's presence would distress the babies, and they wouldn't take human form. They could also die.

No, I don't think Aziraphale was the "father". The babies were demons, while, according to my headcanons, when an angel procreates with a demon, the baby's an angel, as it's the original form (though, they do retain some demonic features). Maybe, Crowley mated with an actual snake, or something... It would be very Greek and Norse god of him, but what the Heaven, dude... I guess, Beelzebub could act as the litter's she-father, once the two had reconciled. Which, is a word I use for maternal figures who, traditionally, would be considered more paternal. You know, kind of emotionally detached, more provider than carer, often absent, that sort of deal.

This is incoherent, but I only remember fragments. I guess, I will put it down in my notes for the future. I already did. (I'm kind of tempted to write the birth scene, I like writing birth scenes, they're brutal).

Don't you just have a love/hate relationship with when you are already swamped with WIPs, but the Fanfiction Gods send you another vision?..

Also, don't you just hate it when you give birth to a litter of snakelets, with the help of your coworkers, and your estranged sister.

I've been thinking about it constantly but in terms of stuff I haven't already said I don't think I have toooo much?

Like I said I wanna include Hades and Homer, and I've been imagining both of them as avatars of The End in different ways.

Hades is a taxidermist (it was between that and a mortuary person but my partner voted for taxidermist so that's where I ended up) but the way he does the whole fear generation thing is like. Appearing sort of like as an omen of death. I'm horrible with articulating my ideas lmao I've just been imagining him standing there menacingly and that putting the fear of death into people for the most part.

As for Homer. I've been imagining a reanimated corpse situation with him, sort of like the Jane Doe cadaver from Georgie's statement. As for what he does...I don't have specifics on that one. Obviously there's the option to also have him do the whispering thing but idk.

I also figured out the Critic (who for reference I refer to as Dice- I think the fandom settled on Anton but Dice is too firmly cemented in my brain atp)! He is an avatar of The Vast :] big space fan that guy. He is going to toss you straight into the exosphere /j

Also another thought I've been having is Remus using Logan as Surviving The Horrors For Dummies. Got weird shit going on? Go ask Logan! It's how he found out Roman didn't get bodysnatched. Logan definitely hits him with the "figure it out yourself damn it" a lot though. Logan's just trying to collect information he isn't trying to be Monster Google, Remus.

I finally got some concrete details nailed down for my Ascendance of a Bookworm OC and the AU she's in, the AU features queerplatonic aroace-ish Ferdinand/OC with Myne as their adoptive daughter born in Werkestock, and Benno as a broke-ass Werkestock merchant due to the economy being wrecked by the civil war.

I'll put it under the cut:

Horaia was born in the Adalgisa Palace as one half of a twin set— the other half being a boy that looked just like her. Due to their mother having given birth to twins, their mana level was lower than was expected of the offspring of the flowers there, and so to compensate for the lower quality feystone her brother would produce, and because she too didn't have quite enough mana to be considered up to snuff to be either a collateral royal or a flower, it was decided that she would be raised as a seed and her feystone be shipped together with her brother's.

She recovered memories of her past life during this childhood in the Palace, or was supposed to, but due to being exposed to trug constantly her head was a mess and that affected the memory recovery process— she doesn't remember in the sense that Myne does, rather it's... fragmented. Hazy. Something familiar deep down on a gut instinct level but doesn't know why. She craves for things she doesn't know the name or shape of, the clack-clack-clack of the keyboard as she typed, even if she can't remember what a keyboard or a laptop is. Her instincts, reflexes, her morality, they're influenced by her past life but she doesn't know for sure where these instincts or moral compass are coming from. She'd do or say something and then be like “wait why'd I do that”. Though that level of awareness would only come after she's away from the Palace, while being stuck inside it and constantly inhaling trug her ability to tell whether she is [REDACTED] or Novem is severely compromised, and so she... floats through the days as [REDACTED] rather than the child she is supposed to be. As I'm assuming the Adalgisa Seeds are raised communally (if that's not the case in canon I'll just say this is an AU thing) “Novem” has the opportunity to... befriend? develop a potentially codependent dynamic? with Quinta, the boy taking solace in the “imaginary world” and “made-up stories” Novem would tell.

Things get spicy when the girl's twin, the other half of the singular “Novem”, somehow ropes the girl half into killing him and absorbing his feystone. Granted, the children didn't know for sure it would work, just that if they're gonna die anyways there's nothing to lose anymore and if he is to die then he wanted it to be by his sister's hand. So... she did. While her mental capabilities were hella compromised under trug. And somehow took her brother's feystone and swallowed it whole, basically cannibalizing her twin brother. The stone was actually absorbed into her, and the consequence of that was...

Well.

A surge of mana, his blending with hers, almost enough to kill her spontaneously, and... and inherited memories.

They won't be whole, of course. This was a very crude way of pulling this off, and in the end the girl is unable to tell who died and who survived— whether this current consciousness is the one that killed or the one that was killed taking dominance in the subsequent fever, whether she was the one who reincarnated or her brother was. Hell of an identity crisis.

Eventually Aub Ahrensbach, Gieselfried, takes her out of the villa just as Quinta (Ferdinand) was by Aub Ehrenfest, Adelbert. The reasoning I haven't pinned down yet, but the tentative one I have so far is that because she displayed the abilities beyond what an seed of Adalgisa should possess (I doubt they were taught or educated, seeing as they're supposed to be products, born to die, born to be export feystones). She is baptized as the first wife's (who is from Drewenchel) daughter.

Though Gieselfried likely thought he was bringing a son home only to realize that nope, that a girl my dude.

Horaia's gender identity shenanigans (and by the Seven does she got gender identity shenanigans) will be explored later perhaps in another post. For now though I'll just use she/her.

Horaia and Ferdinand reunite as first years in the Royal Academy, and whoopsie-doopsie their codependency might've ratcheted up to an eleven. Basing this on my own experiences as a child stuck inside a... shitty family and household with no escape in sight, the thing that gave me solace was stories. My grandmother's stories about her time spent in Russia, stories found in books, stories found in myths and comics and all that bullshit. It was a bit like escapism. I asked my grandma to tell me about her time in Russia again and again because it gave me comfort— that was the base inspiration for the early dynamic between Ferdinand (or rather, Quinta) and Horaia (or Novem) back when they were still stuck in the Adalgisa Palace, just Quinta taking comfort in the picture Novem's stories painted. And then they both escaped (as outlined above) and... well. Ten-year-old Ferdie isn't gonna be as much of a callous hard-ass shutting everyone out as thoroughly or harshly as his adult self, and so... well. They end up latching onto each other al la Ducky Syndrome™ and it's only reinforced by the time they spent together year-round at the Royal Academy without going home.

(The original plan was for her to be an archnoble not an archduke candidate so that she could more easily marry into Ehrenfest without being vetoed by Sylvester's parents for fear of Ferdinand obtaining a better match than their son so I made her take the scholar and knight courses because it made sense for her character— someone who's really interested in the scholarly pursuits like history and magic but loves moving her body loves being athletic to some degree both from the influences of her past life where she wanted to be a writer and historian and played volleyball in high school and while ditter isn't volleyball it's the closest thing to athletes they got in the academy but then I overhauled the AU and now Ferdinand is the one marrying into Ahrensbach to an archduke candidate so uh I accidentally made Horaia take three courses???? Whoops. But it makes sense for her character so I'm not gonna change it, even if it makes her a little OP. Yolo, booyah! )

Oh yes.

She is a ditter-head.

Dunkelfelger loooooves her.

“Wanna ditter?” “FUCK YES LET'S DITTER”

It's to the point Dunk wanted both her and Ferdinand in the duchy, and so they wrestled two betrothals: Ferdinand to Magdalena, Horaia to Werdekraft buuuuut we all know what Magdalena did so Ferdinand's betrothal was cut off.

And since one of the reasons why Horaia accepted marriage into Dunk was because Ferdinand's safety would be guaranteed and she can keep an eye on him better (remember, codependent ), she declares groom-taking ditter on Ehrenfest and wins, securing a betrothal to Ferdinand instead.

Groom-taking because Ferdinand consented.

Again, codependent.

And that's how Ferdinand marries into Ahrensbach.

They decide to go check on Werkestock because the place is in shambles and y'know, doesn't the Temple help w that??

So they go to the Temple (mostly Horaia's idea tbh) and help around with filling the land w mana via chalices or whatever

And accidentally stumble upon Werkestock's Foundation whoops dunno what its consequence is yet but it happened

Somewhere along the line Myne regains her memories and is going on a paper/craft/food rampage as one does, which catches Horaia's attention when she's downtown under disguise as a young man.

Don't ask. Or do. I did say she's got some gender identity shenanigans going on here.

So Myne gets adopted! This time willingly (Horaia convinced and explained stuff to her, this is relevant to the AU's themes and shit but my brain is starting to shut down so it'll have to be a topic for another day) and without the contract that bars her family from treating her as theirs. They regularly meet up in secret.

Much of Horaia and Myne's bond would be built on the fact that they make each other feel... a little less alone, if that makes sense. Less alone in their grief, less alone in the yearning for a home you can never go back to, less alone in having to cope with the dissonance between your previous world and this one. Solace in the fact that, despite how they most likely didn't grow up in the same society (Horaia is unlikely to have been Japanese, even if I have yet to decide where she's from) there's still someone who knows. What has become utterly meaningless in Yurgenschmidt isn't so worthless or meaningless to each other. A lot of “Well this matters. To me.” bouncing back and forth between each other. Someone who can at least partially understand what Myne is on about and how she differs from Yurgenschmidt nobility's paradigms, where she's coming from, and attempt to bridge the gap.

They're also horrid little gremlins undoing each other's domestication and enabling each other's nonsense, much to Ferdinand's vast dismay.

Meanwhile Ehrenfest may or may not be imploding. You tell me.

Little things about Horaia's past life:

She wanted to become a novelist and a historian. Has a lot of Feels™ about both of her interests.

Had a totally healthy (lying) appreciation for libraries.

She was younger than Urano Motosu when she died.

She submitted one of her drafts/manuscripts to a publisher, but died before she got a response back.

She feels that her writing and the story style she does probably wouldn't be appreciated in Yurgenschmidt and that... bothers her more than she'd admit.

Horaia is Ahrensbach's current Knight Commander.

Myne is also on the aroace spectrum in this AU. Fight me bro (don't actually, I just got out of another fight on this matter and I'm tired okay?)

Myne's noble name in this AU is something different, I'm liking “Enheduanna” a priestess and the first known author in Earth history iirc, but we'll see if I find another one I like.

I did some lore stuff- I actually had to somewhat remake Jak's outfit because he needed to fit in. If the people of Flora learned that he came from the surface, everyone would absolutely panic.

This is still ship stuff which is why Daxter nor Red aren't there. I do wanna draw more of Flora's map and key places so I will include them later though.
