Well if it’s looks man-made and Volcarona-like, maybe its has some sort of puesdo-solar panel structure? Everyone knows large, powerful Pokémon are dangerous when hungry (or if not dangerous, at least significantly more difficult to work with). Maybe try exposing it to a UV lamp? Or sunlight if there’s a safe way to take it outside

Hmm...that's pretty reasonable, honestly. Unfortunately, even getting a UV light could be a bit of a challenge when it's getting upset every time I move. Hunger, exhaustion, or disorientation would be very reasonable explanations for its erratic behavior...and some of the difficulty Tesla and I are having with decoding it.

I might try to lure it outside, as the UV lamps I've got access to aren't really large enough for a Pokémon this big (it would only be able to fit one to two of its panel appendages in the direct light at a good distance, and the frustration of an incomplete 'meal' might just make it more upset).

Attempts to guide it outside are forthcoming. It looks Steel-type (I know that's not a great metric here, but I'm working with a grand total of zip information) and we're guessing Fire/Steel in absence of evidence otherwise, so I've gotten Violet to bring me Nessie's Pokeball in case things get hairy.

Are there rumors of Lapras or a regional variant of it secretly living in the deep lakes of Galar? And do you believe that they're real or just a misidentification of something else?

I've heard of them before. I lived near lakes as a kid, and my mom was super into stories, and this always freaked me out and I'd avoided lakes for weeks after that, lol

Do I think it's real? It might be. There's plenty of pokemon that we don't know about, and researchers are discovering new ones every everyday. But I'll admit, a lot of the photos have been missproven or edited.

One thing I don't agree with is that this Lapras is actually a common ancestor of Lapras and lived in lakes. With all the logic we have right now, this common ancestor of Lapras wouldn't be able to survive in our world, and the changing temperstues would kill it quickly. I mean, those things went extinct like, 66 million years ago, and them being alive and in hiding? Doesn't make sense.

I can believe these things live in the deep oceans of Galar, though. Only 20% of the ocean is explored, and pokemon that live in the water are the newest ones being found. So it's more likely that if these things do exist, it's in the ocean and not hiding in lakes.

Hello! My name is Professor Adrian Wisteria, though I usually just go by Wisteria. I use she/her pronouns if it's helpful. I'm a fairly new graduate of the Kalosian Research Academy's Legendary and Mythical Pokemon program where I got my first Pokemon, hence the professor title, and I'm currently working in the Legendary Research Lab at the base of Mt. Coronet!

It's a wonderful opportunity, and one I'm taking to open up a blog and talk about my work! Spreading education is a vital part of my job right now, so I'll post about my work and study subjects - Legendary and Mythical Pokemon! Also Ultra Beasts, but not as much. Violet - F!Meowstic, my starter from Kalos. Serious nature, hates to lose. Likes to look important, not often playful.

Sylph - M!Togekiss, a gift from an ex-friend. Brave nature, somewhat of a clown. Flies in circles around my head and uses himself as a hat.

Giblets - M!Gible, a lab Pokemon who I'm currently in charge of...as much as you can be in charge of a Gible. Naughty nature, strong-willed. A handful and a half.

Nessie - F!Lapras, caught in Kalos. Jolly nature, loves to eat. Big girl, nibbles people's heads to say hello.

Shades - M!Liepard, bought from a reputable breeder in Kalos. Lax nature, scatters things often. Likes to play, in the laziest way possible. Lap fungus.

Tesla - NB!Porygon2, gifted from the lab I stayed with in Kalos, doesn't battle. Sassy nature, highly curious. Pretends to be a mad scientist sometimes for shits and giggles.

Bloom - F!Leafeon, caught as an Eevee in Kalos. Mild nature, likes to relax. Sleeps a lot, values her quiet time.

Zips - F!Luxio, child of my mother's Luxray. Hasty nature, likes to run. Recently evolved, still tripping over her paws often.

((Hello! This blog is run by Gem (any pronouns), I also run @gemalawashomestuck and @john-dirk. This is one of those scientificish Pokemon ask blogs, but with a bit of a quirk - in this one, there are multiple of each Legendary/Mythical Pokemon, though they're far from common, and people can catch/own/see them as a regular thing!

As such, this blog will mostly focus on Legendary and Mythical Pokemon, but there will absolutely be content about others. Feel free to send in asks - questions, sightings, experiences, etc! Otherwise I'll just headcanonpost like. A lot.

In real life, some of the SailGP athletes like to talk about their pets. But if they lived in the Pokémon World, what unusual creatures might they bond with there?

Tom Slingsby- Growlithe

(There are a lot of dog Pokémon that could represent his dog Nala, but Growlithe’s Fire type seemed appropriate for his personality. She’s also kind of a redhead!)

Phil Robertson— Eevee

(Having been skipper of SailGP teams from three different nations, Phil adapts to any culture and environment, just like this famously-adaptable Pokémon that can evolve in many different ways. A Vaporeon is probably still the best Eeveelution for a sailor, though.)

Ben Ainslie— Glastrier

(This frozen unicorn fits with the “reindeer cyclone” livery Team GBR had for the 2022 season and with Ainslie being a knight. It also represents the Scottish unicorn on the UK Coat of Arms— I guess it would be more appropriate to pick a Galaran Pokémon but I couldn’t find one I liked.)

Quentin Delapierre— Meowstic

(Not a Water-type or a rooster like their symbol, but these Psychic cats are stylish, Breton-striped, and come from Poké-France [Kalos]. The male’s blue-and-white stripes look almost exactly like Team France’s livery.)

Erik Heil— Donphan

(Rightly or wrongly, Team Germany are strongly associated with car racing because of one of their founders, and this guy is a pygmy elephant that curls up to run things over like a car tire. But elephants are also known to swim pretty well and it can probably help hose down the boat with its trunk.)

Peter Burling— Elgyem

(Intelligent, long-faced, shy, and has otherworldly talent. Also black and teal! Can’t you just see this cute little robot alien guy helping out in the boatyard levitating tools to people who need them?)

Nicolai Sehested— Lapras

(Sure, the Nessie parallels would make it easy to call Lapras Scottish, but as a part Ice-type with a head and neck based on the figureheads of Viking ships, she can also fit with Team Denmark and their original “Holger” livery.)

Diego Botin— Finizen

(This cute Mediterranean dolphin is from Poké-Spain [Paldea], which literally has a city based on Cadíz. The pattern on its side reminds me of ancient Minoan paintings of dolphins from Crete, so it would also be a great mascot for a SailGP Team Greece if there ever is one.)

Sebastién Schneiter— Snover

(A young abominable snowman with a head that looks like a mountain range, Snover fits with Team Switzerland’s boat being called “Eiger” and their “mountain peaks” symbol.)

Taylor Canfield— Rufflet

(A baby American Eagle! Is it going to evolve into a full-grown Braviary on his watch or will that take yet another change of trainer?)

Are there really sightings of a secret regional Lapras hiddenly living on the deep waters of the Galar region lakes? I heard that the majority of the scientific community say that it's just a misidentified Milotic, but locals say it isn't true and they even named their local cryptid "Nessie"

Mmmh.

Lots of thoughts about this one.

1st of all, we're discovering new pokemon- like everyday, and around 95% of the ocean is unexplored, though the lakes aren't quite the same- it's still entirely possible

2nd, hybrid pokemon are more common then people think, it could be a lapras/milotic hybrid or two other deep water dwelling pokemon

3rd. I don't fucking hunt water cryptids. I won't no matter what. They creep me the fuck out

I actually wanted to start today with this, but I kind of kept falling asleep early every night I wanted to do some preliminary work. Lapras was always a favorite of mine. I'm pretty sure I did the absurdly basic thing of naming mine Nessie...Anyway, these two are pals telling each other about their day.

i do not know if lapras counts but if lapras counts as a fish please add a lapras. in my XY run i had a lapras named nessie and she is my beloved forever.

i don't think lapras counts as a fish but i'm probably going to allow some leeway by cheating (in ways that i will not explain but will become clear once you see the picture) so i will try my best to include lapras 👍

Thank you so much for responding to my message about you being an inspiration of mine. I've dealt with a lot in my life, but watching your matches and seeing you grow over the years has been the motivation I've needed to keep pushing forward. You AND Pikachu.

I'll be more than happy to give you the challenge you've been waiting for! My team consists of an Arcanine named Amaterasu, a Toxtricity named Strings, a Lucario named Anubis, a Corviknight named Nevermore, a Lapras named Nessie and a Sunset Lycanroc named Terra!

Facing you would be a dream come true. Ever since I was half your age, I've fallen in love with Pokémon, and now as I grow older, traveling through the many regions myself, I have a found respect for you, Ash. Let's just say I've been rooting for you from the sidelines since the very beginning.

One thing I've always wanted to know though, Ash. (And feel free to chime in on this one, Goh and Chloe.) When you first started your journey... How was Gary already driving a car? Aren't you the same age?

As for your question... I've never tried to get a driver's license myself, so I'm not really sure how old we have to be to get one in our world 🤔

You can actually take a driver's license test after getting your trainer license, but nobody bothers until they finish their journey since it kinda defeats the point. And why pay for all that fuel when you can just catch a Dragonite or a Corviknight and fly everywhere?

Chloe: Yeah, unless you want to transport an entire family, you wouldn't need a car, since riding pokémon is much more cost-effective... so maybe that's what he used it for?

Ash: If by 'family', you mean cheerleaders, then yeah 🙃

But then again, I haven't seen Gary ride that car in years, so maybe he was borrowing it from someone? Who knows!
