How does Diomedes die?
Not sure why you're asking me specifically because im definitely not a diomedes expert, also not sure if you mean in mythology or in my fics but uhh i scoured through all of topostext because i was curious
It looks to me that there are three main trends in the sources I consulted, with a few variants sprinkled in there too
Made a god: Pindar, Lycophron, Augustine
Died in Italy: Strabo, Antoninus Liberalis, D Scholia to the Iliad, Polyaenus Killed by Daunus: Tzetzes Killed by Aeneas: Aristotelian Corpus
Died/disappeared on the island of Diomedes (modern day Palagruža, near Croatia): Strabo, Circuit of the Earth
I am going to put all the sources under the cut, translations are all from topostext
Disclaimer that i am listing everything I could find on topostext, so it's definitely not a comprehensive list, and not all sources are equally reliable. It's up to you to be critical of what you're reading.
Putting Strabo separately because he lists a few variations of the myth:
Strabo, geography:
§ 6.3.9 Two islands that are called the Islands of Diomedes, of which one is inhabited, while the other, it is said, is desert; on the latter, according to certain narrators of myths, Diomedes was caused to disappear, and his companions were changed to birds, and to this day, in fact, remain tame and live a sort of human life, not only in their orderly ways but also in their tameness towards honorable men and in their flight from wicked and knavish men. But I have already mentioned the stories constantly told among the Heneti about this hero and the rites which are observed in his honor. … According to some, Diomedes even tried to cut a canal as far as the sea, but left behind both this and the rest of his undertakings only half-finished, because he was summoned home and there ended his life. This is one account of him; but there is also a second, that he stayed here (in Sipus) till the end of his life; and a third, the aforesaid mythical account, which tells of his disappearance in the island; and as a fourth one might set down the account of the Heneti, for they too tell a mythical story of how he in some way came to his end in their country, and they call it his apotheosis.
Made a god:
Pindar, Nemean odes:
§ 10.1 Nemean 10: For Theaeus of Argos Wrestling ?444 B.C. Graces, sing of the city of Danaus and his fifty daughters on their splendid thrones, Hera's Argos, a home suitable for a god; it blazes with countless excellences because of its bold deeds. Long indeed is the story of Perseus and the Gorgon Medusa, [5] and many are the cities founded in Egypt by the devising of Epaphus. Nor did Hypermnestra go astray, when she restrained in its scabbard her sword, which was alone in its verdict. And once the golden-haired, gray-eyed goddess made Diomedes an immortal god;
Lycophron, Alexandra:
§ 594 Another [i.e., Diomedes] shall found Argyrippa, a Daunian estate beside Ausonian Phylamus, seeing the bitter fate of his comrades turned to winged birds, who shall accept a sea life, after the manner of fishermen, like in form to bright-eyed swans. Seizing in their bills the spawn of fishes they shall dwell in an island which bears their leader's name, on a theatre-shaped rising ground, building in rows their close-set nests with firm bits of wood, after the manner of Zethus. And together they shall betake them to the chase and by night to rest in the dell, avoiding all the alien crowd of men, but in folds of Grecian robes seeking their accustomed resting-place they shall eat crumbs from the hand and fragments of cake from the table, murmuring pleasantly, remembering, hapless ones, their former way of life. His wounding of the Lady of Troezen shall be part cause of his wild lustful bitch shall be frenzied for adulterous bed. But the altar-tomb of Hoplosmia shall save him from doom, when already prepared for slaughter. And in the glen of Ausonian he shall stand like a colossus resting his feet on the boulders, the foundations of Amoebeus, the builder of the walls, when he has cast out of his ship the ballast stones. And, disappointed by the judgement of his brother Alaenus, he shall cast an effectual curse upon the fields, that they may never send up the opulent corn-ear of Deo, when Zeus with his rain nurtures the soil, save only if one who draws his blood from his own Aetolian stock shall till the land, cleaving the furrows with team of oxen. And with pillars which no man shall boast to have moved even a little by his might. For as on wings they shall come back again, traversing with trackless steps the terraces. And a high god shall he be called by many, even by those who dwell by the cavernous plain of Io, when he shall have slain the dragon that harried the Phaeacians.
Augustine, City of God Bk. 18
§ 18.16 Of Diomede, Who After the Destruction of Troy Was Placed Among the Gods, While His Companions are Said to Have Been Changed into Birds. Troy was overthrown, and its destruction was everywhere sung and made well known even to boys; for it was signally published and spread abroad, both by its own greatness and by writers of excellent style. And this was done in the reign of Latinus the son of Faunus, from whom the kingdom began to be called Latium instead of Laurentum. The victorious Greeks, on leaving Troy destroyed and returning to their own countries, were torn and crushed by divers and horrible calamities. Yet even from among them they increased the number of their gods for they made Diomede a god. They allege that his return home was prevented by a divinely imposed punishment, and they prove, not by fabulous and poetic falsehood, but by historic attestation, that his companions were turned into birds. Yet they think that, even although he was made a god, he could neither restore them to the human form by his own power, nor yet obtain it from Jupiter his king, as a favor granted to a new inhabitant of heaven. They also say that his temple is in the island of Diomedaea, not far from Mount Garganus in Apulia, and that these birds fly round about this temple, and worship in it with such wonderful obedience, that they fill their beaks with water and sprinkle it; and if Greeks, or those born of the Greek race, come there, they are not only still, but fly to meet them; but if they are foreigners, they fly up at their heads, and wound them with such severe strokes as even to kill them. For they are said to be well enough armed for these combats with their hard and large beaks.
Died in Italy:
Antoninus Liberalis, Metamorphoses
§ 37 THE DORIANS: After the capture of Troy, Diomedes arrived in Argos and denounced his wife Aegialia for her behaviour when she was stirred by Aphrodite. He went to Calydon in Aitolia where he made away with Agrius and his sons. He handed over the rule of the place to his grandfather Oineus. He then sailed for Argos but was swept into the Ionian Sea by a storm. When Daunius, king of the Daunians, saw who it was that had arrived, he begged him for help in warring against the Messapians, for a share of the land and marriage to his daughter. Diomedes agreed to the proposal, drew up his men and routed the Messapians, He took his land which he assigned to the Dorians, his followers. The daughter of Daunius gave him two sons, Diomedes and Amphinomus. He died of old age in the lands of the Daunians and the Dorians buried him with honours on the isle which they called Diomedia after him. They cultivated the lands that had been assigned to them adjoining those of the king. It brought them much produce because of their experience in farming. After the death of Daunius, the barbarian Illyrians coveted their lands and plotted against them. They appeared suddenly on the island and the Illyrians slaughtered all the Dorians as they were sacrificing victims. By the will of Zeus the bodies of the Greeks disappeared and their souls were changed into birds. Even today when a ship of the Greeks is brought into harbour, these birds go up to them, but they flee from an Illyrian ship and all disappear from the island.
D Scholia to the Iliad
§ 5.412 so that wise Aigialeia, Adrastos’ daughter, not… (μὴ δὴν Αἰγιάλεια περίφρων Ἀδραστίνη) Diomedes married Aigialeia, the youngest of Adrastos’ daughters. (Adrastos had three daughters: Argeia wife of Polyneices, Deipyle wife of Tydeus, , so Aigialeia was his mother’s sister.) When he went on military campaign against Troy, he left Cometes son of Sthenelos to take care of his kingdom and his household. Here’s the account. When Aphrodite was wounded by Diomedes, she could not harm him because Athena was helping him. Instead, she made his wife crazy for sleeping around and for licentiously and indiscriminately carousing with young men of every age. Aphrodite also filled Cometes with desire for her. When Diomedes returned from Troy, Cometes pursued him with his bodyguard, intending to kill him. Diomedes, furnished with only weak support, fled to the altar of Athena. After that he departed for Italy and, it is said, he received from Daunos some people to establish a settlement. In the end, when his fellow settlers were in dire straits and had nothing to eat, Athena turned them in to herons, and Diomedes’ life then came to an end. The story is in Lycophron (592ff.).59 But the poet does not tell this story. Instead he only says that [Diomedes should beware] fighting a stronger god than you [Aphrodite] in battle and being killed: then, if his wife learned about his death, she would mourn alongside his household. [RSS]
Polyaenus, Strategems
§ 8.18.1 Daunus: In honour of Diomedes, who died in Italy, Daunus instituted funeral games. On the first day he proposed to the Greeks to form a procession in arms. The next day he commanded the barbarians to do the same; directing them, for the purpose, to borrow the weapons of the Greeks; with which they were no sooner furnished, than they fell upon the Greeks, and slew them with their own weapons.
Tzetzes, Ad Lycophronem
§ 592 After the destruction of Troy, Diomedes sailed back to his homeland Argos and found his wife Aegialeia being unfaithful with Cometes, the son of Sthenelus, because he had wounded Aphrodite in Troy. Fearing that he would be killed by the same Aegialeia, he first sought refuge at the altar of Hera of Argos and was saved. This means that Diomedes, having been expelled, went to Italy to the Daunian tribe among the barbarians, where Daunus reigned. Daunus, being besieged, asked Diomedes to help him, promising to give him a part of his land. Diomedes founded a city for the Daunians, which he called Hippion Argos. Later, Daunus offered him a choice between all the spoils of war or all the land, and Alaenus, the illegitimate brother of Diomedes, who was in love with Daunus's daughter Euippe, became their judge. He decided that Daunus should keep the land and Diomedes should take the spoils of war. Angered by this, Diomedes cursed the land, saying that no one would be able to sow the land or reap its fruits unless they were of his lineage and could move his steles. Later, Diomedes was killed by Daunus, and his friends, mourning the hero, were transformed into swan-like birds. They avoid barbarians and wander among the Greeks, even taking food from their hands and nestling in their laps... (I'm cutting Tzetzes off here because he keeps rambling lmao)
Aristotelian Corpus, On Marvelous Things Heard
§ 27.79 They say that in the island of Diomedeia in the Adriatic there is a remarkable and hallowed shrine of Diomedes, and that birds of vast size sit round this shrine in a circle, having large hard beaks. They say moreover that if ever Greeks disembark on the spot they keep quiet, but if any of the barbarians that live round about land there, they rise and wheeling round attack their heads, and wounding them with their bills kill them. The legend is that these birds are descended from the companions of Diomedes, who were wrecked near the island, when Diomedes was treacherously murdered by Aeneas, the king of those parts at the time.
On the island of Diomedes:
Pseudo Scymnus or Pausanias of Damascus, Circuit of the Earth
§ 425 Pharos lies not far from them, an island settlement of the Parians, and the so-called Black Kerkyra, which the Knidians settled. This country has a large lake they call Lychnites. The next island, some say, is where Diomedes ended his life, whence its name Diomedeia. Beyond these are barbarian Brygians. Toward the sea is Epidamnos, a Greek city, that Kerkyra apparently founded. Beyond the Brygians dwell the so-called Encheleians, whom Kadmos once ruled. Neighboring them is Apollonia, a foundation of the Kerkyrans and Corinthians, and Orikos a Greek seaside city; for Euboeans returning from Troy built it, carried here by the winds. Then the barbarian races of the Thesprotians and Chaonians inhabit not much space. Kerkyra is an island opposite Thesprotia. After the Thesprotians dwell the Molossians, whom Pyrros once brought, the son of Neoptolemos, and Dodona the oracle of Zeus, a Pelasgian foundation.

hi. since i have something that could very generously be called a platform, your local dumb horny dog is here with another unfortunate public service announcement for people currently living under the legal jurisdiction of the united states of america:
this would be a good time to start investigating privacy and data security tools (and, as ever, to not panic and/or doompost because those are not useful things to do). such things include:
using (more) secure messaging apps over sms for private correspondence such signal.
using (more) private email services rather than gmail such as protonmail
password protect your shit. this is just basic data security but like. please. password protect your shit. use strong passwords and/or passphrases. don't reuse passwords. use a password manager (i recommend bitwarden).
building off the previous one, encrypt your shit if you're able to. for pc users there are plenty of open source options, such as veracrypt, and probably native os stuff too.
like. y'all are gonna roll your eyes, and i get it, but: stop using windows and try out linux. seriously. windows 11 is a fucking privacy nightmare and it's only getting worse as microsoft pushes their ai shit which is planned to have access to everything you do on it.
tumblr can't do nested lists, consider this a sub-point: mint linux is designed to be incredibly familiar to people coming from windows and is very user friendly. a huge amount of windows software can run on linux using stuff like wine. the linux version of steam comes pre-packaged with it. it's fine. please try linux it won't bite.
sadly i am, as mentioned, a dog on the internet and i cannot provide an actual comprehensive guide to keeping your privacy intact and yourself safe.
however, there are plenty of good guides for this sort of thing on the internet and despite how degraded modern search engines are they are not hard to find. i heartily suggest doing so and familiarizing yourself with them-- and not just because of the times we live in, because a lot of this shit is the same shit that will help keep you safe from a lot of forms of identity theft and the like. it's just good opsec.

Shorebird populations across the Americas have declined by nearly 50% over the past four decades, facing increasing threats from habitat loss, climate change, and human disturbances. Against these odds, the American Oystercatcher has made a stunning comeback, with populations rebounding by 45% since 2008. The recovery is credited to a collaborative, science-based conservation initiative led by Manomet Conservation Sciences, in partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The American Oystercatcher, a striking coastal bird known for its bright red-orange beak and distinctive yellow-rimmed eyes, plays a vital role in salt marsh and barrier beach ecosystems. By 2008, its numbers had dropped to just 10,000 birds. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Dr. Shiloh Schulte, Senior Shorebird Scientist at Manomet, launched a data-driven conservation effort focused on habitat restoration, predator control, and protection of nesting sites.
Schulte’s comprehensive population surveys—spanning from New York to Texas—provided critical insights into roosting patterns and breeding success, enabling conservationists to implement effective recovery strategies. Targeted interventions and sustained collaboration have reversed the species’ decline, offering a model for future shorebird conservation efforts.
A $10 Million Investment in Coastal Conservation
Recognizing that shorebird conservation requires a coordinated, large-scale approach, Manomet and the American Oystercatcher Working Group spearheaded a decade-long $10 million funding initiative bringing together 35 coastal conservation organizations.
The combined efforts have contributed to the restoration of coastal ecosystems, benefiting numerous shorebird species. According to Dr. Stephen Brown, Vice President of Science at Manomet, long-term migration studies have played a role in highlighting the broader shorebird crisis. His research contributed to the November 2024 update of the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List, which revealed that 15 migratory shorebird species in the Americas are now classified at higher risk levels.
Manomet’s ongoing mission extends beyond research, actively engaging local communities, conservation organizations, and policymakers to implement science-based solutions. By prioritizing hands-on habitat restoration and protection, the organization remains at the forefront of shorebird conservation efforts.
Expanding Conservation Efforts: From Oystercatchers to Whimbrels
The success of the American Oystercatcher conservation model is now being applied to other threatened shorebirds, including the whimbrel—a long-distance migratory bird that travels between the Arctic and South America. With whimbrel populations declining in recent decades, conservationists are using the same science-driven strategies to help reverse these trends.
To increase public awareness and engagement, the First Inaugural Shorebird Festival will take place on Tybee Island, Georgia, from February 20-22, 2025. This event will bring together citizen scientists, conservationists, and bird enthusiasts, providing a unique opportunity to learn about shorebird conservation efforts. Dr. Abby Sterling, Director of the Georgia Bight Shorebird Conservation Initiative, will be among the experts discussing ongoing restoration initiatives.
Despite ongoing environmental challenges, the resurgence of the American Oystercatcher proves that with the right scientific approach, funding, and collaboration, shorebird populations can recover and thrive.

Grumbo?
OH I DIDNT SEE THIS TIL JUST NOW yes…. i don’t have art on hand but… i offer… a headcanons list…
- Grian has hollow bones and Mumbo is decently strong from lifting redstone components all the time. If they’re in a room together, Grian WILL be perched on Mumbo
- on that topic, Mumbo actually loves when Grian perches on him, and it never gets in his way
- Mumbo is a vampire AND a shapeshifter. This manifests in him being a vampire moth— aka those freak ass moths (affectionate) that bite humans and suck blood. Grian often acts as an umbrella for Mumbo, since, yk, no sun
- Grian makes nests out of blankets and pillows. Mumbo loves it
- Mumbo was HEAD OVER HEELS for cuteguy. absolutely SMIIITTEN
this is NOT comprehensive and i WILL add more if prompted

So I read Bombs, Babies and Bullets by HigherMagic on AO3 (go read go read very good) and it had me thinking abt animal transformation aus and daemon aus and familiar aus, as I do, because i love them to death. And so I adore the idea of Soap having a snake representing him, actually love it.
But I've been thinking yeah. And I probably won't write a fic bcos i've no idea for a plot yet but!!
Ghost. Listen. Ghost and a hornet. Lemme give you a non-comprehensive list of reasons why Ghost and hornet:
- big motherfucker
- ouch, can sting multiple times and will also fucking BITE you because fuck you
- nobody sees a hornet and thinks positive things, mostly induces fear
- so small most people dont realize its there so Ghost&hornet pretend like its not and the rumour that ghost doesnt have one or is severed from his runs rampant
- hornets arent aggressive actually would prefer to avoid humans thank you
- smol families (comparing to, say, bees)
- will bite through fucking tree bark to get at juices (saw and heard a pair of them chewing through a lilac branch in my backyard that was wild, i thought)
- will not tolerate anyone near the nest. unless youre careful and through much exposure prove youre nice. then you can stay.
- tragicomically, if you subscribe to the Tragic Backstory - hornet nests are in the fucking ground. underground. LIKE A GRAVE. haha
- first time soap sees hornet is when hes approaching delirious (las almas safehouse? the bloodloss fucks with his vision) and hes like. bumblebee??? - its big yellow-black and buzzes why not a bumblebee actually
- the offense is real
- the offense needs blood to redress
- cant bite snake
- the OFFENSE

Excerpt from this story from The Revelator:
Extirpated from the United States a century ago and almost unknown until the mid-1990s, this endangered species can make a comeback if we give it a small boost. New technology for tracking has allowed an assessment and intervention that may help these birds hold on in several critical areas.
Species name:
Thick-billed parrot (Rhynchopsitta pachyrhyncha)
Description:
A typical parrot-green, mid-sized bird weighing 14-17 ounces (400-500 grams) with a distinctive wine-red mask. In flight, a distinctive yellow band is visible under the wings. Their raucous calls sound like laughter in the middle of the forest.
Tumblr media
Where They’re Found:
Thick-billed parrots live mostly in Mexico’s Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range. They were presumably once abundant representatives of high-altitude pine forests, where they persist to this day in much smaller numbers due to the destruction of most old-growth forests and the reduction of mature forests. The species is only present in a small number of zones with adequate conditions for nesting, where they’re mostly under protection or good forest management.
IUCN Red List status:
Considered “endangered” in the most recent 2020 assessment, mainly due to habitat loss and an apparent constant decline. The first comprehensive population estimate will be conducted this fall. The parrot will be one of the first bird species to undergo the IUCN’s new Green Status Assessment, which measures the recovery of species populations and their conservation success.
Major Threats:
The extirpation of thick-billed parrots in the northern part of their range is believed to have been caused by hunting or shooting the parrots for “sport” or food. In the Sierra Madre Occidental of Mexico, where the core populations and range have been holding on, massive land-use change — particularly forestry practices to harvest all old-growth and large trees and remove snags that serve as nesting trees — resulted in precipitous decline over the past century, up until very recently.
From the 1970s to the 1990s, demand by collectors and the pet trade became an additional threat that has since largely disappeared or represents minimal pressure on the species.
Notable Conservation Programs or Legal Protections:
For 30 years a small group of individuals and institutions have been doing research and developing a suite of techniques for thick-billed parrots, not only for research but also to enhance population growth by mitigating or eliminating factors that increase mortality and reduce productivity.
Most of the work during this time, which provided valuable information and insights, was done at a “pilot scale” and with meager resources. As a result we were basically frustrated witnesses to a species’ decline and potential demise.
Fortunately the species is currently the focus of a comprehensive binational effort of community-based conservation to change the trajectory of decline. The field team is led by Organización Vida Silvestre (OVIS) and supported notably by San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, the Arizona Game and Fish Department, World Parrot Trust, and additional supporters and donors.
Over the next five years (2024-2028) we will implement the full suite of actions, including intensive nest monitoring and management, parasite control on an ad-hoc basis, food supplementation to chicks in select clutches to prevent emaciation, an enhanced nesting box program, fire pre-suppression activities, incentives to local communities, community-based monitoring and nest protection, greater understanding of landscape level need of the thick-billed parrot, and amplifying the telemetry information to include not only long distance movements but also daily activities to food, water and clay licks.

Where do farfetch’d get their leek stalk? Is it a special leek that never wilts, or do they have to find a new one every few days? And why a leek?
@ladyzee-oddityhunter
I'm glad you asked! Farfetch'd are actually one of the pokemon I specialize in. I'll try to simplify this all down into just a single relatively short post, but I'll link my papers and studies at the end if anyone's interested in those.
Tumblr media
Farfetch'd are extremely adept foragers, and have been known to use a variety of both wild and cultivated leeks. These can either be found in the wild or taken from a store, but chances are they'll spend hours picking out the 'right' one either way. This used to actually be a bit of an issue for farmers who grew leeks, since farfetch'd would dig up their fields trying to find what they consider to be the best of the bunch. This heavily contributed to the near extinction of farfetch'd in Japan, since they could easily be branded a pest, and were so plentiful that no hunting regulations prevented people from shooting them. However, farfetch'd have also been known to display agricultural knowledge themselves, and have been documented as caring for wild leeks. They're hard pokemon to monitor in the wild, so not a lot of research has been done into this.
Farfetch'd use root vegetables instead of a regular wooden stick or more traditional club because the leek serves several functions aside from just being a weapon; it's also used as nesting material, emergency food, and a way to impress mates, both for males and females.
The leek a farfetch'd claims will not rot unless it's abandoned, lost, etc. It's also much tougher than it would be otherwise, allowing for farfetch'd to use its signature attack style. While we don't have solid proof as to why this happens, the current leading theory is that, in layman's terms, the same energy you'll see a pokemon expelling during battle is constantly being siphoned into farfetch'd's tool of choice, which essentially keeps it alive as if it were still in the ground. The leek, for that moment, becomes an extension of the farfetch'd, not just a tool. This is best exemplified with Galarian farfetch'd; they can't evolve without a leek in their possession, and when they do evolve, the leek changes alongside them.
This is one of the many reasons why I think Kantonian farfetch'd should be reclassified as a grass/flying type, and part of why I believe they have a secondary evolution that we just aren't aware of.
That said, a farfetch'd's leek can still break or be separated from them, and they will have to replace it in that case. This is natural, and will likely happen 2-3 times a year, more if a farfetch'd battles extremely frequently. If you have one, remember that being without a leek does make them feel vulnerable, and will cause massive stress; get them a replacement asap, and let them pick it out if possible. Do not send an unarmed farfetch'd into battle if you can help it; they'll perform poorly and mostly be focused on trying to get away.
Here's a list of my papers on farfetch'd, if anyone would like to read through them. They're all written originally in Japanese, but the first 3 have English translations. I'm still working on translating the others. You can try auto translate on those ones if you'd like. I'm sort of doxxing my last name by putting these out there, but whatever.

The human evolutionary lineage
A lot of people misunderstand evolution. Evolution works by incrementally adding on new changes to existing gene pools through natural selection. A common misconception is that when a new organism evolves, it stops being what its ancestors were. This isn't the case. Instead, each new clade that evolves is the sum of its ancestors adaptations plus a new adaptation (and sometimes that new adaptation is the loss of an older adaptation). Clades are categories of life that are distinct from each other and when new features appear, scientists can name a new clade that is the sum of all previous clades plus the new feature. The Linnean taxonomy sustem with the ranks Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species is an older system of showing how clades nest and branch that isn't used by taxonomists anymore because 7 categories is not anywhere near enough to fully classify how many clades an organism is in. By following the evolution of clades an organism belongs to, you can see the different steps of its development into what it is now. I want to do that to humans. This isn't a 100% comprehensive list of clades or a comprehensive overview of human evolution.
You are in the clade Eukaryota because your cells have a membrane-bound nucleus that stores the DNA.
You are an Ophisthokont because the most basal form of you cells have a single flagella that pushes the cell forward. Many of your cells no longer fit this trait, but the sperm cell, one of the most basal cells, still retains this feature.
You are in the clade Holozoa because your cells cannot produce their own food.
You are in the clade Choanozoa because you are made of multiple cells with different functions working together.
You are an animal (The clade name is either called Animalia or Metazoa depending on who you ask) because you have an internal digestive cavity and must digest other living or recently living organisms to survive.
You are in the clade Eumetazoa (true animals) because your cells are organized into tissues and germ layers.
You are in the clade Bilateria because you are bilaterally symmetrical during embryonic development (and afterwards too, except for a few features).
You are in the clade Nephrozoa because your digestive tract starts with a mouth on one end and ends with an anus on the other end. Be glad you don't have to poop put of the same hole you use to eat.
You are a Duterostome because when you are an embryo, the first opening to form become the anus, when then opens a cavity through the embryo and out the other side to form the mouth. This means that once upon a time, you were nothing but a disembodied asshole.
You are a Chordate because you have a spinal nerve cord that runs down the back and (at least during embryo development) a notochord, pharyngeal slits, and a tail that emerges after the anus.
You are in the clade Olfactores because you have nostrils.
You are a Craniate because you have a brain enclosed in a skull.
You are a vertebrate because your spinal cord is enclosed in a skeletal sheathe that is divided into vertebrae.
You are a Gnathostome because you have a hinged jaw. These jaws started out as modified gill arches.
You are in the clade Osteichthyes (bony fish) because your skeleton is made of bone.
You are in the clade Sarcopterygii (lobe-finned fish) because you have muscular limbs supported by bones and lungs.
You are in the clade Rhipidistia because you have two symmetrical lungs.
You are a Tetrapodomorph because your shoulder articulates in a ball and socket joint.
You are a member of the clade Elpistostegalia because you have a shoulder girdle and do not have a dorsal fin.
You are in the clade Stegocephalia because your limbs have wrists and end in digits instead of fins, and because your spine is connected to your pelvis.
You are a Tetrapod because you have four limbs and skeleton adaptations that let you live on land permanently.
You are a Reptiliomorph because of the number of joints in your fingers and toes and because, barring accident or mutation, you have five digits per limb. You also have waterproof skin. Reptiliomorph means reptile-shaped, but you are not a reptile. The Reptiliomorphs predate true reptiles, which are on a different lineage than you.
You are an Amniote because you reproduce internally with a phallus (giving or receiving) instead of a female releasing eggs and the male then fertilizing them. The egg you came from was also encased in a sac of amniotic fluid.
You are a Synapsid because your ancestors had a single pair of holes in the skull called temporal fenestra. Humans no longer have this hole, but you can still feel the outline of where it was on the sides of your head. The Sauropsids, which would eventually include reptiles, are the sisters of the Synapsids.
You are a Eupelycosaur because your teeth are not all the same size.
You are a Sphenaconodont because your jaw can move side to side and forward and back instead of just opening and closing like a door. This grants you the ability to chew.
You are a Therapsid because you have the ability to shiver to warm up your body.
You are a Eutherapsid because your body is sustained at a temperature warmer than your environment.
You are a Neotherpasid because your legs are held under your body instead of being splayed out to the sides and because you have a spine the moved better forward and back instead of side to side.
You are a Theriodont because you have differentiated types of teeth including canine teeth in the front of your jaw. You also have a chamber in your nose for mucous membranes and 7 vertebrae in your neck.
You are a Eutheriodont because you have a secondary palate in your mouth that separates it from the nasal cavity. This means you can chew and breathe at the same time.
You are a Cynodont because your mandible is all one bone instead of multiple bones. The other bones that used to be part of the jaw are tiny remnants at the back. These bones would eventually evolve into the inner ear bones many clades later. You also have a heel on the back of your feet.
You are an Epicynodont because the teeth in the side of your jaw are differentiated into multiple types instead of all being the same shape.
You are a Eucynodont because you also do not have a parietal eye and because you do not have abdominal ribs, which allows for the presence of a diaphragm.
You are in the clade Prozostrodontia because your molars have two roots and are coated in enamel.
You are a Mammaliamoform because you were born toothless and grow only two sets of teeth in your life: baby teeth and adult teeth. Mammaliaform means "mammal-shaped" but they aren't mammals yet. There are still a few traits that need to evolve before true mammals showed up on the scene.
You are in the clade Mammalia because of the way your jaw articulated with the rest of the skull.
You are a Theriomorph because you have external ears instead of just holes in the sides of your head. The ancestors of the Monotreme and Platypus would have branched off somewhere around here because they don't have external ears.
You are a Trechnothere because of modifications in the elbow, scapula, and heel that help you move better.
You are a Cladothere because your ear canal goes through a coil instead of being a straight line.
You are in the clade Zatheria because you have nipples. Prior to theis, mammals had to sweat milk out of their pores for their young to lap up. Platypus and Echidnas still do this.
You are in the clade Tribosphenida because you or someone you know has a vagina and anus that are separate holes instead of being combined into a cloaca. Platypus and Echidnas still have a cloaca.
You are a Therian because you were born live instead of in an egg. Placental mammals and marsupials diverge at this point.
You are Eutherian because you were attached to a placenta while in utero.
You are a Placentalian because you do not have an epipubic bone. This allos babies to be born larger and more developed. You would think this would be the clade where placentas appear, but nope.
You are in the clade Boreoeutheria because you or someone you know has external testicles enclosed in a scrotum.
You are a Euarchontoglire. This clade has been established based on genetic rather than morphology. It divides into two groups: the Euarchontids and the Glires. You are on the Euarchontid side. The Glire side includes rodents.
You are a Primatomorph because you have adaptations like binocular vision and better balance that allow for life in the trees. These adaptations evolved independently in multiple lineages, a phenomenon called convergent evolution.
You are a primate because your eye sockets are fully enclosed by bone and you have opposable thumbs.
You are a Haplorrhine because your nose is dry rather than kept wet with mucus like a dog's.
You are in the clade Anthropoidea, sometimes called Simiiformes, because you do not have sensory whiskers but you do have color vision, breasts on the pectoral muscles, and you or someone you know has a naked penis that is not retracted into a sheathe. This is the clade for monkeys. Despite what you may have heard, you are a monkey.
You are in the clade Catarrhini, old world monkeys, because your nostrils face down instead of sideways, flat fingernails instead of claws, and tails that are diminished or gone all together.
You are in the clade Hominoidea, apes, because you have no tail and your shoulders can do a full rotation.
You are in the clade Hominidae, great apes, because you have fingerprints and the same structure you your eyes and ears as the other great apes.
You are a Hominine because you walk upright on the ground instead of knuckle-walking.
You are in the genus Homo, a human, because you have a large skull cavity allowing for a large brain that grants the ability to create complex languages, tools, and philosophy. Other human species include Home erectus (which may be our ancestors), Homo floresiensis (who only got about half as tall as we do as the result of island dwarfism), and Homo neanderthalensis (the Neanderthals, a cousin species to us which was closely related to us to allow for interbreeding. The majority of people alive today who are of European descent have some Neanderthal DNA in them).
Finally, you are in the species Homo sapiens, who originated in sub-Saharan Africa and spread throughout Eurasia in multiple successive waves of migration (some of which went back into Africa), before spreading out to the Americas and Oceania. Some populations interbred with other human species like the Neanderthals and Denisovans and even though those lineages are extinct, their DNA lives on in their modern human descendants. We have the most developed prefrontal cortexes of any ape, allowing for a greater degree of creativity and innovation that likely allowed us to out-compete all the other human species and innovate technology and philosophy to a greater degree than any human species.

i love that ive been following for so long and still somehow know nothing about Koschei. here is my comprehensive list of Koschei Facts:
he’s a Dracula AND an owl.
he eats mice and then seemingly coughs them up for dramatic effect. slay.,:
he’s a wizard??
he’s gay. see previous statement.
at one point he exploded and decided not to die out of spite. as one does.
there’s gotta be several operas written about him by now and he probably starred in at least one of them. pioneer of the villain song.
capes and cloaks billowing in the night!!!!!!
i still can’t decide whether he sleeps in a coffin or if he nests in the rafters of some old castle with a bunch of twigs and tapestries. him using a normal actual bed feels illegal somehow…
i think he’s neat :)
Let's see :] [Sorry if the links doesn't work for you, it's from my TH wnich, cuz of anxiety, I keep blocked for people that aren't logged in there.]
This is a good opportunity to once again disprove the belief of many people that he is some kind of vampire. 🚨He is not.🚨 He is an immortal wizard who made himself immortal through a complicated process. He doesn't drink blood and is not afraid of light like some loser, he's not related to vampirism at all. He would never sleep in a coffin, he has a very comfy bed. Some nests too. He often sleeps sitting stiffly in an armchair tho. However, yes, he does turn into an owl :] And is a mouse connoisseur. He has moments of getting rid of pellets, in human form too. Not gay. Bi af. Abt the explosion, that's true 😩
Maybe no operas were made except for 1, but for a certain period of his life, at the beginning of the 20th century, he performed in the theater and sometimes he played versions of himself from fairy tales, because together with Orest they agreed that it would be very funny and cool.
Capes and cloaks billowing in the night: Yes. Yeah 👍 Yeaaaaaaaaa.
