Look who just woke up- is that BEN HARDY? No, I must have been mistaken that’s BILLY “Four” from SIX UNDERGROUND. I heard he is 21 and stuck here just like everyone else. Even in the 20’s, they still give off FEET POUNDING AGAINST A ROOFTOP, NOTHING TO LOSE, LOYAL TO THE END impression. They’re known to be quite BRAVE but have a tendency to be CARELESS on their bad days
Welcome to 1925 – Billy "Four" !! I hope you feel right at home here in Sydney. Before you get too comfortable and see what all our city has to offer, be sure to review our CHECKLIST. We’re so glad to have you with us, Emilie !!

My friend who's heavily into Kdrama keeps asking me if I've watched this and that and the answer is usually no - I've been really busy and when I do find time I'm usually watching Thai stuff (without being explicit). So she only goes and finds a Thai drama on Netflix to watch together. Gah. Which is the backstory to why I watched a het drama called Ready Set Love on Saturday.
Premise: because of a mysterious pandemic the male population of the world is greatly outnumbered by the female and the birthrate for boys is only 0.009%. In Thailand there are only c.350 males and they are idolised, kept safe from birth in a government run facility called The Farm.
Plot: as they get to their 20s the boys are paired up with women on a reality type show Ready Set Love 5 boys and 50 girls- 45 of who from the wealthy elite (including a clique called 'The Organics' who were born 'naturally' rather than through IVF - shades of Mean Girls) but 5 contestants are chosen by lottery from the general pubic. Our heroine is one of these; entered by her sister she agrees to take part in the hope that, if she wins, she'll be able to access the medical treatment her sister needs. Cue shenanigans.
It's a romcom with thriller elements - there's the uncovering of a conspiracy, some disturbing actions by the government, an underground resistance etc but there's also this completely bonkers game show, and it is bonkers. It's almost Squid Game like in its madness (without the death).
youtube
Because of the set up the vast majority of the cast - from crew to security to vendors to hospital staff to, well, everyone - is female. It's a really interesting take and also, of course, it means that there are a lot of lesbian couples. What about the boys though? What if one of them were gay? Well, we do get crumbs of a side couple so if @heretherebedork watches they will be delighted.
And I enjoyed it. Only 6 eps and with a good budget which meant that the over-the-top gameshow special effects etc were excellent. Some of the comedy was cringy but hey, it's Thailand so it's only to be expected and if I can sit through a Cheewin comedy I can handle anything.
Worth a watch if you need a BL break. Or even if you don't.

hey, I saw the anti swiftie post. If you're comfortable mag I know the reason why? I am kinda neutral about her but I feel like I should know stuff. I understand if you don't wanna answer this. Take care <3
(also I agree the swiftie fandom is kinda annoying lmao)
hello old old old anon ask I'm so sorry for replying so late but yeah hi 😭
I have tons of time on my hands for the next.... 30 minutes so let's get into it. I'll list a time line of my thought process to how I came to the 'ex-swiftie' conclusion:
1. She released a song called "renegade" which is good, but I found some lines problematic and unexpected, because I used to hold swift to a pedestal (guilty as charged).
The lines were 'is it insensitive of me to say get your shit together so I can love you' and 'is it really your anxiety stopping {something love something idk} or do you just not want to?' SOOOOO yeah these thew me off a little.
2. Her album Midnights came out which I ADORED, became my fav so quick. But then her multiple variations of vinyls etc threw me off again. This is when the Bad Feeling About Her started setting in.
3. Then she released the song 'You're losing me' which just BLARED red flags to me even though the song is actually good. It's the first time I think, where she hinted that she broke up with her bf (Joe Alwyn) because of his mental illness.
4. The ongoing carbon emissions controversy lol, and her buying carbon credits... like it just felt like a "hah I'm rich so I can do whatever wrongs i want and buy it out" moment. I really hated that, since I live in a pretty polluted city so it hit close to home.
5. She threatened to sue the teenager who published PUBLIC data about her flights. Bad.
6. The entire free palestine movement gained momentum and she stayed silent. She has her image as the American Princess and Activist Who Can Do No Wrong. Feminist Queen. Speaker For Those Who Can't Speak. Yada Yada.
I simply hated her billionaire self as she chose to stay silent (and still is). To call off the criticism she and her bestie Selena went to a live comedy show where the comedian donated his earnings for Gaza relief. LIKE. ??????? Basic billionaire below underground level of "donation"???? This had to be a joke. It was not.
I think this incident was the final straw for me where I realized I can't support her if she's such a human being. That's not what my morals stand for thank you very much.
7. I REALLY tried to separate the art from the artist but I couldn't. Not with my sane mind and strong ethics. AND THEN the entire Matty healy debacle. He's a misogynistic, racist, zionist, ugh of a person.
I don't think anyone can date someone with such drastic opposing values. So the Taylor-Matty era further tarnished her image in front of me.
8. Fast forward and she releases her new album The Tortured Poets Department. That's it this was my final straw. You can just Google and go on a reddit thread about how problematic this album is. I'll probably write a long ass essay on it. Anyway this is where I decided I'm done, back in April.
Since then I've just been trying to cope with losing my fav artist because of the person she turned out to me. And people say we shouldn't hold celebs to such high standards but bro. Taylor PROMOTES parasocial relationships. SHE held her image to that standard until recently. There's an entire documentary on Netflix about that - Miss Americana.
So yeah she let me down from the pedestal she put herself on. It's been 2+ months and I'm still coping, because I genuinely lost a very important part of my life - her music. It has got me through tough times and I have many good memories associated with those songs.
Anyway, here's to new artists to love ONLY for their music lol 🥂

More bad (or in some cases pretty good) Xmas movie reviews here! I’ve tried some odd ones.
EDITED TO INCLUDE:
Christmas on Mistletoe Farm: This was EFFING CUTE. Super British. Quirky kids in hand knitted stuff and big Wellies. Baby barn animals everywhere. Comedic English overacting. As charming as a mouse in a teapot. I would watch it every year twice. The colors alone are scrumptious. 9/10
* Christmas Inheritance - As stereotypical as Christmas romance movies get. Small town, lonely innkeeper, main character returns to town to find the magic of Christmas by helping with some pageant or festival or whatnot. Bland but mainly pleasant but stop making characters do that slow head shake while sincerely singing thing, it’s weird . 4/10
A Christmas Movie Christmas - A fun swing at typical Christmas movies. Christmas magic transports two sisters into a Christmas movie of their own where they wake up every day with their hair and makeup already done and cookies already baked. Parts of it are funny, but it led me to the disturbing revelation that all B actors wear false teeth. 6/10
Christmas Chronicles 2: I was excited for this. Hot Santa, Belsneckel, Yule Cat. Nope. Bad. Please don’t bother, you’ll soil the first movie. 1/10
Dash & Lily : in spite of being about New York, this short series is really good and sweet. It’s a scavenger hunt of literature and romance and the art of loving your own weirdness against the backdrop of Christmas. It’s charming and colorful. Definitely not perfect, it is a high school aged series based on YA romance and that can sometimes lead to “youthful” acting, but it is good and I appreciated it and the music was superb. 9/10
Noelle - dang, I really liked this. It seems a discredit to say it’s like a gender bent Elf, but that is the broadest definition. Very warm and loving. 10/10
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol - this is the animated Netflix version. I have mixed feelings. I thought they took the art in some really interesting places. I thought the music was pretty terrible. I thought they did the lower budget animation thing where some characters look amazing and some look poorly thought out. I thought Scrooge was weirdly hot. 6/10
Mickey and Friends: Duck The Halls - Newer style of Mickey Mouse animation that is part Ren and Stimpy and part midcentury modern, which is awesome. Donald Duck stays in the snowy north for the winter and literally falls apart from the cold, lots of body horror. Hilarious. 10/10
Jingle All The Way - I know, it is weird that as a 90s kid, I had never seen this. I was promised a bad movie and I’m slightly disappointed that I loved the hell out of it. From Arnold expecting us to believe that he works in mattress sales and saying “you’re my numbah one custahmahh” with a cheesy grin to a brawl of underground gang Santas to Phil Hartman having the balls to hit on Arnold’s wife and moaning obscenely over the phone about how good her cookies are while Arnold yells “PUT DAT COOKIE DOWN”, it’s all amazing. But really the best part is the unexpectedly complex buildup of a real hero/villain relationship - the connection, the offer of friendship that gets rejected, the ensuing battle that becomes an insane bid for revenge, culminating in a real costumed fight that ends - in the true spirit of Christmas - with the police hauling away a grown man in a latex bodysuit clutching a toy he has ruthlessly stolen from a child that would grow up to become Darth Vader. 15/10

Okay I know this post will gain absolutely zero traction but the more I think about it the more I want to cry about it??
slight spoilers for one of the character arcs in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre ahead,,,
So I saw Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre in the cinema today. I was alone, it was reasonably full, the film technically only opened two days ago, and it's wider release isn't for another week, but I had time to kill and it was the only thing that piqued my interest. It sits in an interesting spot tonally, comparative, I'd say, to Netflix Exclusive Michael Bay movie 6 Underground, though to use a more recent marker I'd drop it somewhere near Bullet Train (though it's definitely much closer to 6 Underground). All this context to say that I went into this Jason Statham-lead espionage action movie with zero expectations and almost completely blind.
So please believe me when I say I was truly blindsided with joy to have canonical, casual queer representation in this Jason Statham-lead espionage action movie.
Maybe it's that I don't watch a lot of media now, but it's something I noticed while watching Glass Onion too, both with Benoit and Hugh Grant (ha, put a pin in that) and especially with the character of Peg, and it makes me a bit teary and excited when I think about it. There's something to be said for how far we've come, to the point that Casual Queer Rep is even possible. There's something about watching Peg get all flustered talking to Helen and knowing that it's because she has a crush, without it having to be flagged, spelled out, or otherwise othered by the film or its writing.
It's normalised.
Which I know shouldn't be a big deal, but right now, to me, it is. I didn't realise I could feel this way; to see a full character who just so happens to be gay, where the plot doesn't revolve around her being gay, but that part of her identity is still made clear?? I love Peg so much holy shit.
But Glass Onion is the second in a series that has established itself as a forerunner for casual diversity. Let me tell you about how Operation Fortune made me want to YELL in theatres.
It's the 8th of January, and it might be a bit early to call it, but Danny Francesco might be my favourite character of the year.
Is he perfect? God no, he's objectively not a great person; he's sleeping with his sister-in-law, he's a Hollywood diva, he's demanding, and he (spoilers, seriously) ends up engaged to a war criminal. Who happens to be the main antagonist. Who happens to be Hugh Grant. Danny is the light of my life, however, and I love him with my whole heart.
So in the beginning we're told that Danny turned down $10m because he didn't want to jump out of Greg (Hugh Grant)'s cake and sing Happy Birthday; whatever, I thought, Greg is a rich, eccentric with an obsession with celebrities, and Danny is the biggest star right now, I shouldn't read anything into it because Sometimes Rich People Just Do Things For Status Reasons. We're also told, and subsequently shown, Greg tries to take celebrity's partners/girlfriends. Cue Sarah (Aubrey Plaza) in a bright red dress that I will dream about for the next month.
Also, in the scene where Danny, Sarah, and Orson (Jason Statham) are joining the fancy party, there's some distinctly fruity vibes between the three of them, but I'm not here to push my Orson/Sarah/Danny polycule agenda, just know that I have one.
So obviously Greg is excited to see Danny, but later makes a Very Distinct Pass at Sarah, inviting both her and Danny to stay with him for the weekend, with an implied Wink Wink Nudge Nudge.
While they end up taking him up on that offer, Danny, who started the film having refused Greg's Rich Weirdo Request, and now having to spend time with him for the job, finds that he actually genuinely likes Greg, who appears to genuinely like him back, doting on him, even giving him gifts.
When Danny says to Sarah "(I'm paraphrasing, about Greg) he's really into you! If you don't take him up on his offer then I might!" my eyeballs were Out Of My Head. Like sure it sounds like a joke that would be written in to simply highlight Danny's materialism, a whole 'gay for pay' joke, something about his vanity, or even just an offhand joke that I might hear one of my straight friends who were super comfortable and confident in their sexuality say about their best friends, I was So primed for this to be something that the audience could laugh off or dismiss in hindsight. Like in my mind that solidified my headcanon of Danny as bi, but I was so used to queerbaiting and years of being told I was reading into things.
So as the plot continues, Danny's fondness for Greg goes on, turns into something incredibly genuine, and looking back, he clearly has a hero-worship crush on Greg by the end of the film.
The last shot we see of Danny and Greg is the pair of them getting into an elevator after Greg pulls a stone cold power move on the films secondary antagonists, which he had Danny assist with for flare after Danny asked specifically to stay with him for that event. In the elevator, Danny tells Greg that that was "the coolest thing he's ever seen someone do" and that's the last we physically see of them.
HOWEVER!! THE ICING!! THE CHERRY!!
At the very end of the film, one of the protagonists mentions how he's gone into the film industry, and the response he gets is;
"You better not be talking about Danny Francesco and his fiancee Greg Simmonds!"
an accurate depiction of me as the credits began to roll;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WE WIN THESE!!
BOTH DANNY AND GREG ARE CANONICALLY BI/PAN IN THIS JASON STATHAM-LEAD ESPIONAGE ACTION MOVIE IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2023!! THEY BOTH LIVE UNTIL THE END!! THEY'RE ENGAGED!! THEY'RE BOTH ABSOLUTE DISASTERS!! THEY'RE BOTH FULL, ROUNDED CHARACTERS WHO HAPPEN TO BE QUEER!!
I get choked up thinking about it now, considering how quietly overwhelmed I felt in the theatre realising that Danny and Greg's comments and moments throughout the film weren't some elaborate joke, the dialogue that reminds me of my friends, the moments that felt true to my life as a queer person, they werent the setup for any kind of homophobic mixup, miscommunication, or microaggression; no, I finally, actually felt like I saw a part of myself, of my community represented in media.
Everyone in that movie is terrible in their own way, but Danny and Greg just happened to be terrible people who are also queer. Are they perfect representation? No! Thank fuck! I think we deserve more dumbass, disaster, unethical queers in media.
Even if I don't necessarily recommend this movie (it's pretty okay if you're a fan of the genre I suppose), I subjectively love it and especially it's characters, with my whole entire heart.
Danny Francesco is canonically a dumbass, bi disaster who fell for his sugar daddy, war criminal Hugh Grant. Good for him. It's what he deserves. 🥰🥰🥰

‘Heart of Stone’ Trailer: Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt Star in Action-Packed Netflix Movie
Tumblr media
Gal Gadot is going from superhero to super spy in the action-packed first trailer for the international espionage thriller “Heart of Stone.”
Gadot was joined by co-stars Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt at Netflix’s Tudum fan festival in São Paulo, Brazil, where the trio debuted the film’s first trailer. The footage features heart-stopping stunts, like Gadot’s Rachel Stone — an intelligence operative for a shadowy global peacekeeping agency — skydiving from a death-defying height.
Stone’s steely demeanor and adrenaline-junkie habits are explained as her boss (Sophie Okonedo) warns, “You know what you signed up for. No friends, no relationships… What we do is too important. When governments fail, the only thing left is the Charter.”
Stone and Dornan’s Parker are among the organization’s highly-trained agents, who have no political leanings or national allegiances and are described as “working together to keep peace in a turbulent world.”
Tumblr media
But when hacker Keya Dhawan (Bhatt, as the Bollywood A-lister stars in her first major Hollywood movie) steals the agency’s most valuable – and dangerous – weapon (a technological core that “gives the Charter its power,” it’s “heart,” if you will), Stone sets off on an epic, globe-trotting adventure to save the day and clear her name.
“Heart or no heart, I’m coming for you,” Gadot snarls into a cell phone as her own warning to Bhatt.
Directed by Tom Harper from a script by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder, the intense footage also features major action set pieces including a motorcycle chase through the Alps and cars speeding through the streets of Lisbon. Gadot is also seen flying through the air twice — first, paragliding off a snowy embankment and later, doing some extreme skydiving.
“Chance of success just plummeted,” a Charter agent (played by Matthias Schweighöfer) cautions while Stone performs the dangerous maneuver. “Only because you have no imagination,” she shoots back, as she manages to tumble onto her target.
In addition to bringing her action star skills (refined in “Wonder Woman,” and soon to return to the “Fast and Furious” franchise) to the table, Gadot also produced the film under her Pilot Wave banner with her producing partner and husband Jaron Varsano. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are also billed as producers, along with Mockingbird’s Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn. Patty Whitcher, Harper and Rucka serve as executive producers.
“Heart of Stone” begins streaming on August 11.
Netflix nabbed worldwide rights to the project in 2021, marking another partnership between the streamer and Skydance, after teaming for “The Old Guard” with Charlize Theron, Ryan Reynolds’ “6 Underground” and “The Adam Project,” directed by Shawn Levy. Gadot and Netflix have their own strong ties, with the superstar set to appear in two sequels to “Red Notice,” as the 2021 action comedy is one of the streamer’s most-watched movies of all time.
Variety
Remember… (Gadot’s) Stone and Dornan’s Parker are among the organization’s highly-trained agents, who have no political leanings or national allegiances and are described as “working together to keep peace in a turbulent world.” — Variety

Hi there!
I like to ask a question about your Sonic Underground retrospectives. I'm hoping to do something similar with another DiC Animation show, Mary-Kate and Ashley in Action! (I won't do every episode sadly as there's 7 missing in English atm. Yeah *that* show is partially lost media. I might do them later if they get found.)
What was your process when doing these retrospectives, especially regarding notetaking and writing down your thoughts on each episode? And with the screencaps, did you take them as you watched the episode, or were there also some screencaps where you had to go back and capture specific moments to highlight?
wow, i did those about 6/7 years ago- it’s been a while but i’ll try my best to remember how i did them.
while watching the episode i’d take very short, quick notes on anything that came to mind, pausing the episode if needed. iirc I used notepad on desktop to take notes, but the notes app on your phone or a physical notebook would also work.
Then, i’d open Word and turn those quick notes into longer, fully formed sentences, adding analysis. After, I’d open up the episode again and take the relevant screenshots. At the time SU was on Netflix and that’s what i was watching the show on. I had to use the Snipping Tool to get around their anti-share measures
There’s probably more efficient ways of doing the above, since it’s a four-part process if you include copying all this to tumblr, but it’s the best that 17 year old me could come up with.

They Cloned Tyrone (2023) Review
Tumblr media
Taking a break from the Barbenheimer talk to discuss Netflix’s most recent cinematic outing.
Plot: A pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper in which an unlikely trio investigates a series of eerie events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood. Fontaine, a neighbourhood drug dealer, is shot dead by rival Isaac and then is very shocked to wake up in his bed the next morning unharmed.
Was sold by the film’s trailer using Rockwell’s ‘Somebody’s Watching Me’ and now having seen the actual movie have discovered it’s an unofficial remake of the 2013 Edgar Wright film The World’s End. I doubt the director and cast will admit it’s a remake however there are simply too many similarities to not make comparisons. I should note that The World’s End is one of my favourite films ever. So yep, They Cloned Tyrone is my kind of entertainment! And it’s a very entertaining movie. Fitting nicely into the Blaxploitation subgenre, with having a vintage grainy filter aesthetic; characters wearing funky clothing and crazy hairdos; and an energetic soundtrack, all adding to the 1970s feel of the movie. The story itself tackles the serious subject of White supremacy and institutional overlords trying to control the Black community however without trivialising or preaching the themes as if we are in a lecture. The social commentary is there, but overall this is a funky science fiction comedy featuring a trio of heroes I never knew I needed.
I need these 3 characters solving mysteries/conspiracies from the hood on a regular basis. Have the same actors (Boyega, Parris and Foxx) playing the pimp, dope boy, and ho uncovering everything from aliens, secret experiments, and every conspiracy of this generation. These three have amazing chemistry and riff jokes off each other so well. Their constant bickering was hilarious. The balance of these personalities clashing and complimenting each other... it’s genuinely great! If nothing else that’s the takeaway from They Cloned Tyrone - these three together are a match made in heaven.
It’s fun science fiction shenanigans all around, however this movie does suffer from a shed load of plot holes. Especially at the end where our heroes infiltrate the underground base, a lot of things only worked out because they needed to, and real life they would have all been caught/stopped without any issue. But it’s a harmless comedy so I am happy to forgive these. It very much takes inspiration from various movie auteurs such as Jordan Peele, Stephen King, and Edgar Wright as well as having a Stranger Things vibe throughout. If you like the actors and enjoy old-school sci-fi, then you should go and check out why they cloned Tyrone.
Overall score: 6/10

Look who just woke up- is that DAVE FRANCO? No, I must have been mistaken, that’s TEDDY “SIX” BECKER from 6 UNDERGROUND. I heard he is 23 and stuck here just like everyone else. Even in the 20’s, they still give off a UNHINGED CHUCKLES WHILE DRIVING WELL ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT, SPICE GIRLS BLARING LOUDLY OVER A HANDMADE STEREO SYSTEM, HIDDEN GLANCES FOLLOWED BY SOFT SMILES AND BLUSH impression. They’re known to be quite COCKY, but have a tendency to be RECKLESS on their bad days. ( blake )

Stephen King on Silo: ‘Mysterious and Terrifically Suspenseful’
‘King's positive review isn't the only good news for the Apple TV drama. New data delves into how Silo beat out its competing streaming shows as the number one most in-demand breakout show...   Silo beat out the likes of Netflix's Fubar, which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, and HBO Max's Love and Death...
‘... [Silo] starts by telling a fairly grounded story of a couple that's trying to conceive their first child. From there, the scope and focus of Silo expand while still prioritizing the human concerns driving the story. Still, as King says, offering his latest recommendation, the show knows how to build up a mystery...’
~ from Stephen King Gives His Honest Review Of Apple TV+'s New Sci-Fi Show by Abdullah Al-Ghamdi (Screen Rant) 6/12/2023

‘More is on the way’
‘If you’re enjoying Silo on Apple TV Plus, good news: more is on the way. The post-apocalyptic series, based on novels by Hugh Howey, is getting a second season. The show premiered on May 5th and is still airing; the finalé streams on June 30th.
‘The show takes place in the titular silo, an underground facility that houses the last remnants of humanity, shielding them from the desolate landscape outside. Season 1 plays out sort of like a small-town mystery that just so happens to take place at the end of the world. It stars Rebecca Ferguson, Common, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones, and Tim Robbins...’

“In a ruined and toxic future, thousands live in a giant silo deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the Silo.”
