Full post about letting go in shifting
1) Letting go or the mysterious puzzle of shifting
Letting go is one of the most misunderstood concepts in the shifting community.
Many exhaust themselves asking: “How do I let go?”… which is ironically counterproductive, as it triggers the mind even more.
For some, it happens naturally. For others, it’s like a lock.
Spoiler: letting go isn’t a permanent state you need to maintain 24/7. It’s a key moment happening at a precise instant.
Tumblr media
About half the people who shift on command (12 people on the survey sample) said they sometimes have a very “empty” mind (there were 26 participants, and they could pick multiple answers, that’s why the stats add up like this). Imagination also seems common among people who shift on command, likely because of the immersive aspect it creates.
2) Letting go: no need to "think about nothing" all the time
Based on many testimonies (including my own surveys):Many shifters say they had doubts, intrusive thoughts, even anxiety before successfully shifting.
The common pattern is that, at the critical moment of shifting, a switch occurs where:
- The environment becomes secondary.
- Thoughts naturally slow down.
- The brain shifts into a state of internal release.
It’s not a total absence of thought.
Rather: -> a distancing from one’s thoughts.
3) Letting go = temporary deactivation of the controlling ego
When shifting, the problem isn’t thinking itself but trying to consciously control every detail.
The analytical mind (the ego, the "controller") loves staying in charge.
-> Metaphor:
Imagine you’re a passenger on a boat.
Your ego wants to steer.
Letting go is the moment you allow your subconscious to take the wheel.
Letting go = trusting that the current will take you where you want to go without forcing the rudder.
4) Emotional state matters more than we think
Many believe that "intention" alone is enough.(It can be in some precise case)
In reality, emotional state (not just positive vs. negative, but stimulating vs. calming) plays a central role.
Interesting paradox:
Calm emotions (serenity, slight sadness, contemplative state) often seem more favorable than highly activated emotions (anger, extreme euphoria, anxiety).
The subconscious shifts better when it isn’t overwhelmed emotionally.
-> The mind needs to be able to glide, not fight, the emotion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5) Why does letting go support shifting?
Neurocognitive hypothesis (based on research I've done):
Shifting seems to involve switching brain modes:
- Default Mode Network (DMN): self-centered, ruminative thinking, focused on self-awareness (of the CR).
- Low-latent mode (hypnagogic, hypnopompic):
-> opens up to broadened perceptions, new reality and identity perceptions.
Letting go helps transition into this receptive mode where assumption can truly take root.
Key moment:
-> "My mind disconnects and lets my identity glide into my DR."
⚠ Note: It’s not black and white. The DMN can help with preparation and constructing the DR, but at the key moment of shifting, it seems more favorable when the DMN activity drops, allowing easier passage.
Tumblr media
6) Letting go ≠ abandoning intention
Many believe you have to completely forget you want to shift.
Wrong: it's more accurate to say you need to:
Maintain a soft, implicit intention.
But without trying to force or constantly check.
Sometimes, simple immersive visualizations, calming sensory affirmations, or just "being mentally in your DR" are enough.
❀ The key:
-> The intention is in the background, stable. The active mind is on pause.
7) The extreme example: stress can make shifting harder
Imagine trying to shift while being chased with a knife:
Even with the best affirmations, your brain would be overwhelmed by survival mode.
Why? Because the body is in a state of maximal activation of the limbic system.
The more emotionally overloaded you are → the harder it is to access the subtle shifting process; it gets locked.
That's why:
-> Calm conditions aren’t mandatory, but they are highly favorable.(Some profile are highly emotionally resilient which could change things a bit)
Tumblr media
My favorite meditation for relaxation
8) Letting go isn’t "emptiness", it’s a selective opening
Many believe you have to “stop thinking” to let go. But that’s almost impossible. (For most profile)
In reality, it's often about redirecting your attention:
- Less analytical/logical thinking
- More immersive, sensory, narrative thinking
Examples:
- Feeling your DR without trying to visualize every detail
- Letting yourself be immersed in imagined sensations (sounds, smells, touch, etc.)
It’s not the absence of mental content, but rather mental content adapted to shifting.
Tumblr media
If I can give an example: it's like floating in the middle of water. Your mind relaxes, thoughts come and go like waves, but you know the current will guide you to the right place.
9) Letting go and the “floating effect”
Many shifters describe an inner floating feeling just before shifting:
- A sense of weightlessness
- Sensory blur
- Light, pleasant dissociation
Why? The brain seems to enter a “low cognitive friction” mode:
-> Mental barriers between realities become thinner
-> The rigid ego temporarily falls asleep
Allowing this drifting feeling to naturally emerge can greatly facilitate shifting.
I would even say for some, sensory deprivation or certain sensory experiences might help them enter these states.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
10) Accepting the imperfection of the mind
The trap of perfect letting go:
Many people get stuck because they want to be mentally perfect before shifting.
But:
- The mind fluctuates.
- Intrusive thoughts exist.
- Shifting doesn’t require unrealistic mental purity.
What to aim for:
-> Mental flexibility, not perfection.
Sometimes, intrusive thoughts fade away on their own by letting the DR sensations come to the foreground.
11) The importance of micro-moments of shift
We often believe that shifting requires hours of preparation.
But in reality:
Shifting often happens in a few key seconds when:
- The state of relaxation is reached.
- DR attention becomes dominant.
- The mind slides without being pulled back forcefully to CR.
These moments are subtle, but become recognizable with experience.
The more you practice identifying these mini-shifts, the more you develop a flexible "entry window."
12) Conclusion: don’t panic about letting go
You don’t need to be mentally perfect to shift.
Letting go is occasional, not permanent.
It’s a release of control at the key moment.
You can totally:
- Have doubts.
- Have intrusive thoughts.
But succeed in disconnecting at the right moment.
-> The most important: cultivate moments of gentle receptivity, no need for absolute control.
Bonus) Alpha, theta waves as well as binaural or isochronic sounds also seem ideal to induce a favorable state (not mandatory especially if you prefer not to have sound but it may help).

Writing Notes: Culture Shock
As part of the acculturation process individuals may experience culture shock.
It occurs when individuals move to a cultural environment which is different from their own.
It can also describe the disorientation we feel when:
exposed to an unfamiliar way of life due to immigration to a new country,
a visit to a new country,
move between social environments (e.g., moving away for college),
or transitioning to another type of life (e.g, dating after divorce).
Common issues associated with culture shock:
loss of status (e.g., provider to unemployed),
unfamiliar social systems and social norms (e.g., agencies rather than extended kin networks),
distance from family and friends,
information overload,
language barriers,
generation gap, and
possible technology gap.
There is no way to prevent culture shock because everyone experiences and reacts to the contrasts between cultures differently.
Culture shock consists of at least one of 4 distinct phases:
HONEYMOON
During this period, the differences between the old and new culture are seen in a romantic light.
For example, after moving to a new country, an individual might love the new food, the pace of life, and the locals’ habits.
During the first few weeks, most people are fascinated by the new culture.
They associate with individuals who speak their language and who are polite to the foreigners.
Like most honeymoon periods, this stage eventually ends.
NEGOTIATION
After some time (usually around three months depending on the individual), differences between the old and new culture become more apparent and may create anxiety or distress.
Excitement may eventually give way to irritation, frustration and anger as one continues to experience unpleasant events that are strange and offensive to one’s own cultural attitude.
The following may heighten the feelings of disconnection from the surroundings:
Language barriers,
stark differences in public hygiene,
traffic safety,
food accessibility and
quality.
Living in a different environment can have a negative, although usually short term, effect on our health.
While negotiating culture shock we may have insomnia because of circadian rhythm disruption, problems with digestion because of gut flora due to different bacteria levels and concentrations in food and water, and difficulty in accessing healthcare or treatment (e.g., medicines with different names or active ingredients).
During the negotiation phase, people adjusting to a new culture often feel lonely and homesick because they are not yet used to the new environment and encounter unfamiliar people, customs and norms every day.
The language barrier may become a major obstacle in creating new relationships.
Some individuals find that they must pay special attention to culturally specific body language (e.g., arms crossed, smiling), conversation tone, and linguistic nuances and customs (e.g, handshake, turn taking, ending a conversation).
Example: International students often feel anxious and feel more pressure while adjusting to new cultures because there is special emphasis on their reading and writing skills.
ADJUSTMENT
As more time passes (usually 6 to 12 months) individuals generally grow accustomed to the new culture and develop routines.
The host country no longer feels new and life becomes “normal”.
Problem-solving skills for dealing with the culture have developed and most individuals accept the new culture with a positive attitude.
The culture begins to make sense, and negative reactions and responses to the culture have decreased.
ADAPTATION
In the adaptation stage individuals are able to participate fully and comfortably in the host culture but this does not mean total conversion or assimilation.
People often keep many traits from their native culture, such as accents, language and values.
This stage is often referred to as the bicultural stage.

It is incredibly difficult to hear so many people in the environmental movement continually lionise trains as the answer to all transport needs.
Being a full time mobility aid user with chronic fatigue and sensory overload makes use of public transport nightmarish.
If *real* efforts were made to make every train and every station fully wheelchair-accessible, *without* having to rely on unreliable or downright abusive station staff to put ramps up and, down, it would be a fantastic *start*. On good days, I *might* be able to use it for certain kinds of journeys.
However, it still wouldn’t solve the issues with sensory overload, or the problems getting to train stations from my home due to severe chronic pain and chronic fatigue.
If overdo it when I’m out, I *crash*. I cannot expend all my resources getting places. I then cannot do anything when I am there, and am unable to get home safely.
This is not that uncommon a problem. My issues are due to hEDS, POTS and autism, but they are incredibly common symptoms of Long COVID and ME/CFS resulting from Long COVID. So, unsurprisingly, folk with these needs are becoming increasingly common as Covid continues to rampage through the population. *Some of us need transportation we have control over*, and we need environmentally sustainable options to do this.
While expanding the public rail network, making it completely affordable (or, realistically, free) and making it fully accessible for wheelchair and other mobility aid users, children travelling alone from about age 8, elderly people with limited eyesight and hearing and parents travelling with infants would be an *incredible* start and massively increase usage of public transport, there are those of us who will always need at least part-time access to vehicles which can come to our homes and that *we* have control over, that are just as affordable as public transport, and the environmental movement needs to acknowledge this, plan for it, and stop treating it as selfishness, laziness and all the other “fun” terms disabled folk face constantly just for trying to live, especially outside our homes.
This is going to be even more the case if you want us to be able to work outside our homes and if you continue to be resistant to providing fully remote jobs that pay a living wage.

Update from Democracy Action Network:
Despite his dreams, Trump is not a King. Marisa Kabas may have again broken the news. The Washington Post writes: "The White House budget office on Wednesday rescinded an order freezing federal grants, according to a copy of a new memo obtained by The Washington Post, after the administration’s move to halt spending earlier this week provoked a backlash."
He didn't back down because it was a good idea. It wasn't a change of heart. It wasn't a feint. It was a genuine administrative coup that — for now — has been thwarted.
He backed down because people pushed back — getting media to do their job and alert us to an impending problem, calling Senators who (more or less) found their spines, lawyers challenging the coup, telling the story of the many who would suffer under such an order, joining last-minute DC protests
We'd like you to pause before your inner cynic speaks up (the one that says "he'll try another version" or "look at all the other things he's destroyed and people suffering").
The point is stunningly important: Trump can lose when we fight. He is not invincible and he is not all powerful.
It doesn't mean we will win every fight. But it does mean that anyone who is telling you it's hopeless is wrong. Folks need to get this message: our feelings are valid, but any conclusion that says it's over is wrong. They, too, will get a chance to join and we hope they do.
To us, the biggest stories not being told are the many, many acts of resistance all over. We wish we had journalists covering this. For example:
Teachers rejecting ICE raids ("we jump in front of bullets for our students")
Folks rejecting President-in-action-but-not-elected Elon Musk's potentially illegally sent and possibly illegal buyout offer to 2 million government workers (comments are fire: "I'll be honest, before that email went out, I was looking for any way to get out of this fresh hell. But now I am fired up to make these goons as frustrated as possible, RTO be damned. Hold the Line!")
National trainings teaching people how to organize and strengthen community when workplace raids happen (we recommend these!) or Teen Vogue's story on ICE Watch Programs Can Protect Immigrants in Your Neighborhood — Here’s What to Know
Lawyers standing up for the rule of law — like 22 state attorneys general sued Trump over birthright order or ACLU suing fast-track deportation policy or Quakers suing to stop ICE out of worship services
The internet spamming the DEI snitch tipline
Greenlanders refusing to give up free healthcare and education and rejecting any US takeover or Colombian President Petro staring down Trump and winning the "dignity" of returnees he asked for (the US media let Trump claim victory — but international press report this very differently, like here or here or read Petro's full statement)
Groups like Civil Service Strong helping government workers sort through their decisions in these trying times and the many people finding their path in these times.
Yes, we know the overwhelm is still there. There's a reason. It's called Shock and Awe. The goal is chaos and constant crisis to push through radical changes. The goal is to push our cognitive limits to overload, so we get paralyzed.
One implication of this: to stay active, many of us will need to limit our attention. Doing so is not a rejection of other issues. It's that in a time of rapid chaos, none of us can do it all. Let's give ourselves that permission. And then let's extend that grace our allies — for not joining the causes most central to us or for picking a strategy that we think isn't most effectual. It's okay to pick your lane and focus on that. In fact, we need you to. (We have this video to help remind people of different paths they may take.)
An overwhelmed teacher asked us what they should be doing to help their students. After an extended conversation that included their basic rights to keep out ICE, it came down to this: "The thing they most fear is an educated population. Teach your students." Do what you do best. We knew there would be a lot of loss in this time, and there is. We'll have to keep planting seeds for a better future.
We want to thank Democracy Forward for its leading lawsuits. Again, thanks to journalists like Marisa Kabas (an independent journalist at The Handbasket) and Anand Giridharadas (who quoted us in The Ink). Please support our independent journalists who did not downplay this administrative coup and raised their voices right away. Thanks Rebecca Solnit who first pulled our attention to this.
Some things we're going to go do: Eat some ice cream, pet a cat, and tap some maple trees with our kid. And then keep fighting the best we can.
Warmly,
- Choose Democracy

For Cassie, do any of the stuff she had back in the Pizzaplex still have a use for her in the Playtime caves?
What tools does she add to her arsenal?
Should we assume that the underground part of Playtime is so large that parts of it can plausibly be underneath a mall kilometers away?
Answering your last question first, I'd say yes. Which probably would help make sense how an elevator from the underbelly of the PizzaPlex can crash-land through the cavern into the Prison or the Mining area of Playtime Factory, when the top surface locations of both business being not even remotely close to one another. Even though the whole thing still sounds kind of silly.
As for Cassie's arsenal, she certainly would still have everything she had in the PizzaPlex minus the AR collectibles. The problem is that initially none of those tools are compatible with Playtime Co. tech and machinery, not to mention the complete lack of a V.A.N.N.I network (and thus, Helpi is also offline.)
But with how intuitive Cassie was with those tools back in RUIN, on top of being daughter of a technician, she certainly would be able to eventually circumvent the incompatibility and make modifications/adaptations to make her tools functional again, with the addition of a few cables and stuff to help make those possible.
At the beginning she'd only have her Faz-Wrench with very limited use, as I headcanon it can also work as a taser (it is kinda shaped like one when you think about it too, doesn't it?) which is a decent help for defense. it'd require modifications for any of its hacking properties though- which might be possible already in design (if you inspect the 3d model of the Faz-Wrench you can see input sockets for cables like USBs.) One of its prongs got slightly bent in the elevator drop, but that's an easy fix (easy but still needing delicacy in handling.) With enough adaptations, it could be very useful to help troubleshoot and maintain some machines like Safe Haven's generator.
The VANNI mask is as good as a cheap Halloween mask at first. But if Cassie manages to restore functionality to it without the network, it'd essentially work on its own grid, and be used as a neural-based controller for other devices if Cassie wears it. There's no "AR world" or VANNI network in Playtime Co. though, so it can't quite work the exact same way as it did back in the PizzaPlex... but with it she can see through walls! And now there's no M.X.E.S. limiting her time to use it meaning it's relatively safer to wear (though I imagine seeing through walls for too long in a row could cause a sensory overload perhaps? Hm, that would have to be a togglable property.) The mask would also make Cassie invisible to The Doctor just as it did for the Glamrock Endos and Ruined Glamrocks (but back then that was just trading them for M.X.E.S.) The Doctor sees "everything", but it's always through technology like cameras and monitors, things susceptible to the mask's interference, since he no longer has his organic eyeballs. Along with the see-through-walls property, I imagine Cassie MAYBE also developing other vision modes like infrared, night vision, heat vision, etc. Hell, if she gets one of those gas masks Playtime Employees would wear, she could use it to further upgrade the VANNI mask to also double as a gas mask to keep her safe from the red smoke. And perhaps restore its ability to run simulations too, like the one we see in the Brazil Ending... so long Cassie doesn't get too lost in her own memories and lose touch with reality- but current friends like Doey would be great anchors to help prevent that.
Flashlight? Broke. Busted in the elevator fall. RIP.
The Roxy-talky technically would already be usable, but it'd run in a frequency that doesn't match Playtime Co. communication-- Com'on, of course Fazbear Entertainment would design those things that way to force customers into buying more of their own mascot-talkies, rather than have them work with any other walky-talkies. Greedy corp shitty designs, amirite? Other walky-talkies would have to be manually recalibrated to run on the same frequency the Roxy-talky does in order to communicate with it. Sounds like a hassle, but would allow for a safe isolated communication line if you get what I mean.
Once Cassie is more recovered from her injuries, I think Doey would get her a GrabPack with a few hands- not that he'd expect anything from her, but if you don't have one you're very limited in what you can do there. And boy, that girl would overhaul that shit over time, especially when combining it with her own tools already. Connecting the mask to it as a neural controller would let her control the GrabPack with pretty much just her brain so her actual hands remain free. Controlling the GrabPack that way would also increase the dexterity of the hands meaning they're a lot more posable with a wider-range of movement (picture Cassie shooting a hand out towards Player/Employee only for it to stop inches away from their face with the middle finger up. Admit it WE all wished we could do that with those hands DONT LIE LOL.)
And that's not mentioning the hypothetical scenario of Doey and perhaps the more capable toys of Safe Haven hunting The Doctor's automatons for sport for parts. Who freaking knows what else Cassie could add to her arsenal with such resources.
At this point, she DREADS the possibility of being limited and unable to help those left that she holds close like it happened in the PizzaPlex, so she really would start applying herself, especially technologically, for her toy friends in Safe Haven. She learned in the PizzaPlex, and would vow to do better for Safe Haven.

⚕️Psionic Emergency Pathways
Problems with psionic abilities can make Gallifreyans extremely distressed and disorientated. Here's a guide for managing problems in psionics, because you need to be PEP-ared!
Tumblr media
BIGGER - Google Drive: PDF / Image JPG / Image PNG
This guide is for use on Gallifreyans and Time Lords only. Always seek your human advice from human health providers.
✨ What Are Psionic Emergencies?
Psionic emergencies disrupt the delicate psychic networks of Gallifreyans, resulting in a range of acute or chronic complications. These emergencies can impair telepathy, cognitive function, and emotional stability, with potentially severe consequences if not managed promptly.
📝 How to Use PEP
📊 Recognising Psionic Emergencies
Each type presents specific symptoms that caregivers must identify. List your symptoms according to each category, and take the pathways that has the most symptoms.
⚠️ USE CLINICAL JUDGEMENT: Psionic symptoms cannot always be neatly categorised, please use clinical judgement at all times to determine the most appropriate pathway.
1️⃣ Psionic Overload
Overloads are usually acute episodes, where short-term excessive psychic input causes intense distress or collapse.
👤 Causes: Short-term exposure to environments highly saturated with psionic energy.
⚕️Symptoms: Intense headaches, Telepathic noise (uncontrollable mental chatter), Hallucinations, Confusion, Fainting and/or collapse, Nosebleeds, Psychic 'leakage' (unintentional sharing of thoughts/emotions), Hyperarousal (heightened sensitivity to sensory stimuli)
📋Management:
Environment: Move the patient to a low-stimulation space with dim lighting and minimal noise. This would ideally be a Zero Room, but if unable to access one, the caregiver should establish a cool, quiet, dark room.
Grounding Techniques: - Get them to name 3 things they can see, 2 they can hear, 1 they can touch. - Encourage deep breathing: Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 6. - Have them focus on tactile objects like textured stones or fabric.
Isolation Fields: Use psionic isolation technology to block excessive input, if able.
Mental Shields: Guide the patient to visualise a protective psychic barrier, such as a dome or glowing wall.
Pain Relief: Administer analgesics for pain if required.
❗When to Escalate: Overloads can lead to seizures, vomiting, or uncontrollable haemorrhaging. If symptoms worsen or persist beyond the initial intervention, escalate immediately.
2️⃣ Psionic Deprivation
Deprivation arises from a prolonged lack of telepathic interaction, leading to cognitive and emotional decline.
👤 Causes: Lack of use of psionics over a long time.
⚕️ Symptoms: Depression, Anxiety, Cognitive decline, Weakened psionics, Fatigue and muscle aches, Increased irritability or frustration, Social withdrawal, Suppression or loss of symbiotic connection with a TARDIS
📋 Management:
Reconnection: Facilitate telepathic contact through psychic bridges or entrelacement, ideally with another trusted Gallifreyan.
Exercises: - Memory recall: Encourage revisiting positive memories to reawaken dormant psionic pathways. - Symbiotic resonance: Use a TARDIS to help stabilise their psionic baseline. - Introduce mind-stimulating puzzles or telepathic games.
Emotional Support: Address depression or anxiety through verbal reassurance and emotional presence.
Check-ins: Begin regular telepathic check-ins to track recovery progress.
❗ When to Escalate: Escalate if the patient becomes unresponsive to verbal contact or shows other signs of severe cognitive decline.
3️⃣ Disease/Injury
Illness or trauma affecting the brain or psychic systems, leading to acute symptoms.
👤 Causes: Telepathic infections/parasites, or head injuries.
⚕️ Symptoms: General signs of illness or injury (e.g., known infection, visible head trauma etc.), Cold-like symptoms (e.g., congestion, mild fever), Persistent migraines, Psionic distortions (e.g., difficulty sending or receiving telepathic signals), Hallucinations, Disorientation or dizziness, Localised pain around the epiphysis cerebri (pineal gland), TARDIS systems affected (if applicable)
📋 Management:
Isolation: If a disease is suspected, activate containment fields to prevent psychic transmission to other telepaths.
Treatment: - Stabilise their physical health using emergency medicines and GASS and ABCDE protocols. - Treat any visible head injury. - Administer antibiotics or antivirals for bacterial or viral infections. - Use psionic cleansing devices to remove psychic parasites (if able). - Apply neural therapy to repair damaged telepathic pathways, ideally through using a zero room.
Pain Relief: Administer analgesics for pain if required.
Monitoring: Watch for worsening symptoms like persistent fever, seizures, haemorrhaging or loss of consciousness.
❗ When to Escalate: Escalate if infections or injuries show no improvement, or if telepathic distortions worsen.
4️⃣ Degenerative Conditions
Chronic conditions impairing telepathy and cognition over time.
👤 Causes: Long-term or terminal diseases and conditions, such as psionic dementia.
⚕️ Symptoms: Impaired memory recall, Disorientation or inability to differentiate reality from dreams, Psychic 'leakage' (unintentional sharing of thoughts/emotions), Progressive loss of psionic abilities, Progressive loss of language, Emotional instability (e.g., mood swings, paranoia), Sensory hallucinations, Telepathic 'ghosts' (phantom presences or voices)
📋 Management:
Degenerative conditions can often be terminal, so for any degenerative psionic condition, a care plan should be made tailored to the individual Gallifreyan. These care plans should include...
Stabilisation: Establish a physical and cognitive baseline from which to measure all future interventions.
Therapeutic Interventions: - Engage neural therapy or consult psycho-healers if able. - Initiate regular telepathic and sensory exercises to maintain connections and slow progression of condition.
Medications: Consider long-term medications for physical, mental, and psionic discomfort, including pain.
Quality of Life: Assess continually to ensure the patient has the best quality of life possible at all times.
End of Life: Put in place support for regeneration or end-of-life care.
❗ When to Escalate: Escalate if the patient becomes a danger to themselves or others, or if their quality of life significantly declines.
📌 Key Points to Remember
Low-Stimulation Environments: Essential for managing overload or degeneration.
Prompt Treatment for Disease: Act quickly to contain and treat psychic infections.
Specialist Care for Chronic Issues: Degenerative conditions like psionic dementia need long-term professional support.

This is really impressive. Dude basically built an entire retro-style cable TV network into a raspberry pi. It handles everything: proper scheduling, channel guides, ad breaks, station IDs, the whole shebang.
Not only that, but he built it with such specificity that you can have not only seasonal programming (sports at certain times of years, or holiday movies), but even content-appropriate ads: beer commercials during football, or 1-900 numbers during late night programming. He also mentions setting up several cartoon channels that either switch to retro syndicated TV (Nick at Nite) or adult oriented cartoons (Adult Swim) after 6pm.
A RetroPi for emulators is interesting but I feel like if I ever get a Raspberry Pi, I'd want to do something like this with it. I'm just left wondering:
Are all channels simultaneously active all the time? I suppose if you're stringent about everything being a specific length (for scheduling) it wouldn't be that hard to just calculate how far past the hour you were and join a program already in progress, I'm mainly just worried about how often this thing is hitting the SD card and whether too many channels could overload the Pi.
I feel like adbreaks are going to be the biggest problem. Going by the video, it looks like ad breaks are evenly spaced out and probably completely automated. That's not always how TV was structured, and I worry it could splice in an ad break in the middle of dialog or an important scene. If it were me, I'd probably set a "we need a commercial break" flag and look for when a show goes quiet and fades to black for longer than, I dunno, half a second.
The github page implies that it does kind of pick shows at random. I'm sure if he built in specific times of day and seasonal content you could just build out detailed programming blocks (X-Files on Friday night at 8pm, every Friday) but I wonder how much randomness is built into this system. From a structure standpoint it feels like it would be easy to throw an entire series at this thing and have it build out specific time slots and rotate through programming, in order, automatically. Maybe it does, if he has a guide channel, since it would have to know what's coming up next. I just don't want things playing out of order.
It's stressed that this is still early yet, and not exactly user friendly to set up, but man. I am fascinated and want one really badly now.

i truly believe that soulnet is the battle network concept of all time. it takes the series' themes of friendship and worldwide connection to their extreme -- a world in which human souls themselves are connected to the internet, where humanity achieves peace by feeling the emotions of others and empathizing. but they are also aware of the problems inherent to such a system, where one bad actor could ruin everyone, which is why tadashi and wily decided to shelve it in the first place.
dr. regal is aware that humanity is not actually fully evil, or else he would not need nebula gray. if the majority were evil, simply connecting everyone would allow evil to thrive. but in a way soulnet is the reason megaman is able to overcome nebula gray at all -- he can feel the emotions of all of his friends on top of lan encouraging him. overloading the system with negative emotions can be impactful, but so can overloading the system with hope and love.
in a way, i think that a lot of other battle network concepts tie into soulnet. full synchro is souls uniting between a navi and operator. soul unison is the souls of two navis uniting. with soulnet, it's everyone. we are all connected.
it's an interesting topic that i think leaves a lot of room for exploration. how does this affect the concept of the individual? how much does it affect behavior? to what extent does it control the lives of everyone? is everlasting peace ever truly possible? it's a lot to think about and i've never seen anybody really talk about it in-depth.
i understand that this is rambly but i hope that i've gotten people to think about it a little more. soulnet is so dear to me and i want people to see the potential behind it. i am always open for discussion if anyone has anything to add

Crossovers
So, I just feel like talking for a bit about my approach for crossovers. Crossovers are one of my favourite things to write, from two entries in the same franchise to two franchises that were never meant to cross, they're special to me. Allow me to present to you, Lynx's Unofficial Guide to Writing Crossovers! Buckle up, this is going to be a long read.
The first thing is to decide what kind of crossover it's going to be. I don't have names for all of these, so I'll explain the premises. The first option does have a name, Shared Universe. This works like a Pokemon AU. Elements from one world, Pokemon, exist in another world, say Sonic, but not too much changes in terms of world or story. We would simply see let's say, what Sonic would do with a Pokemon partner as he runs around bashing robots. These crossovers don't require a lot of lore to explain why the world is the way it is, although it can be interesting if they do. (Check out Bilsu Art on YouTube and his 'Linked Dimension' project. It's a good example of a lore-heavy Shared Universe.)
The second type of crossover is the kind you would typically see in a comic book or a TV show, like a 'Iron Man meets Spider-Man' or 'Sonic and Mega Man Worlds Collide.' This is also the crossover you usually see new fanfiction writers make. These kinds of crossovers have to be done 'just so.' You need a reason for the two to meet. If they already exist in the same universe, it's not a problem, but when they exist in different universes, you need a reason for those universes to meet. Usually it's in the form of the villain discovering the other world and meeting a villain there to team up with. (Sonic and Mega Man Worlds Collide, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.) These crossovers are often prey to what I like to call 'character overload.' It means that there are so many characters that they either don't get enough time to shine, or they get lost in a sea of other characters. Let's just call this kind 'Comic Book crossovers.'
The third kind is when two characters just so happen to be in the same world. They were not really meant to cross, but it's not unusual for them to cross. (Grumpy Cat/Garfield.) These ones are more simple, since the characters can just run into each other without some sort of overarching threat. It does run into the issue of character overload as well.
The fourth type could be considered an RPG crossover, where characters from one series stand in for characters of another series or story. (The Sonic Storybook games.) These kinds of crossovers can either be amazing or terrible. Usually when they're terrible, it's when the canon dialogue, actions and motivations are pasted onto the inserted characters. They can be amazing when the roles are upheld alongside the new character's personality. There is a special challenge in writing these crossovers because you need to uphold the fine line of 'adaptation' and 'AU.' Personally, I would be more invested in the story if it turned into an AU. The premise behind these kinds of stories boils down to 'what would character A do if they were in character's B's role in B's world?'
Let's call the fifth and final kind (that I can think of) 'Borrowed Element Crossovers.' Theses are much closer to AUs than they are to crossovers. I did it myself with my story Pokemon Powered Up where I took elements from Mega Man Powered Up but it is still in the Pokemon World with Pokemon people and Pokemon personalities. This list is far from complete, and I often borrow bits and pieces from the different types to make crossovers.
All crossovers stem from the idea of different people meeting each other. There has to be a reason the two worlds fit together so nicely. (i.e., Digimon and Megaman Battle Network both have a Digital World or Sonic and Kaito KID both are free spirits with their own rules.) Sometimes they don't even need much in common. I once read a spectacular My Little Pony:FiM/classic Mega Man crossover and I can honestly find no obvious real element between the two series. I've also noticed that some series can cross over more easily than others. (I'm looking at you Harry Potter crossovers and I don't know the reason why because I've never read the books.)
The next step in crossover making is figuring out which world is the dominant world. Is it Sonic in Pokemon or Pokemon in Sonic. The difference would be if it was Sonic in Pokemon Sonic would be a Pokemon trainer and do trainer stuff but if it was Pokemon in Sonic then the biggest difference would be that Pokemon share the world with the characters and the characters themselves might even be anthropomorphic Pokemon. Sometimes the worlds can be pretty balanced in elements, but other times one world takes over all the elements.
The next question is figuring out who is meeting and how. Are they going to bump into each other at a gaming convention? (Secret Reverse.) Is a mysterious entity going to invite them to another world? (Smash Bros series) Will the villain(s) try to merge the worlds together? (Marvel vs Capcom Ultimate.) Some series will have a thing that makes it easier for crossovers to happen. Fullmetal Alchemist has the Gate from the 03 anime that canonically can send people between the real world and the FMA world. Sonic's world has the Chaos Emeralds, Pokemon has Dialga and Palkia, and Yu-gi-oh! has plenty of nonsense across all its entries. (My personal favourite crossover hotspot is Majora's Mask. It's incredibly easy to make crossovers with this concept, no matter the characters or world.) Other worlds might be harder to cross over. Detective Conan and Wild Kratts are both fairly firmly set in the the real world, and even in worlds like Star Trek where they seem to encounter a wormhole or multiverse every other season, they have particular rules of interaction that would make things harder.
The last rule is to have fun! Laugh as you think about what character A will do in this world. Groan as you realize what cultural norm character B will get wrong. Grin as you determine who will win and who will loose. That's the whole point of the crossover, isn't it? Find out 'what could happen' and make it happen!

The climate scaremongers: How can we possibly power all the heat pumps?
ByPaul Homewood
-
May 30, 2025
https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/the-climate-scaremongers-how-can-we-possibly-power-all-the-heat-pumps/
BANNING gas boilers and installing unaffordable heat pumps is central to Net Zero plans. With a typical life of 15 to 20 years, no new gas boilers may be installed much after 2030, if all emissions of carbon dioxide are to be eliminated by 2050. (Our boiler, by the way, is 17 years old and still going strong.)
However engineers at Nottingham University have now concluded that we will not have enough electricity to power all those heat pumps with the decarbonised grid proposed. There are two separate problems:
The intermittency of wind and solar means there will be many occasions in winter when there will not be enough power to meet current demand, never mind to cover EVs and heat pumps as well;
The seasonality of demand for heat means that peak demand for electricity might be 70 per cent higher than now, even taking account of the efficiency of heat pumps.
Currently the latter is not a problem – we can simply turn on the gas when we need it. You cannot do the same with electricity because distribution networks would become overloaded, even if you had enough power stations. Households currently use four times as much gas in energy terms in winter than they do electricity, so the challenge of replacing gas boilers is clearly immense.
You also cannot simply turn windmills on and off to provide the power when you need it.

(Competitive Sensory Play) Armed robbery is typically motivated by the desire to obtain money, which is then often used to purchase drugs; however, some armed robbers engage in the crime with the intention of boosting their status within their peer group. Whatever the motivation, the act is classified as a violent crime, because armed robberies can result in injury and sometimes death to victims.
(Agreggator Model) Some common kinds of robbers include first offenders, persistent thieves and hustlers, drug addicts, habitual robbers, and skillful planners.
(Graffiti Art Galleries) Raiding is a military tactic or operational warfare mission which has a specific purpose. Raiders do not capture and hold a location, but quickly retreat to a previously defended position before enemy forces can respond in a coordinated manner or formulate a counter-attack. A raiding group may consist of combatants specially trained in this tactic, such as commandos, or as a special mission assigned to any regular troops. Raids are often a standard tactic in irregular warfare, employed by warriors, guerrilla fighters, or other irregular military forces. Some raids are large, for example, the Sullivan Expedition.
The purposes of a raid may include: to capture specific key persons; to gather intelligence.

TOÜSSAINT'S BULLET CHESS INFLUENCED ART CURATORS (FARMLAND RENTAL PROPERTIES)
Preparation: The first step in creating such a good repertoire is to understand that memorization comes in a distant second to an appreciation of the ideas behind your opening moves
Prophylaxis*: In the game of chess, prophylaxis or a prophylactic move is a move that stops the opponent from taking action in a certain area for fear of some type of reprisal. Prophylactic moves are aimed at not just improving one's position but preventing the opponent from improving their own.
Pre-Move: This is when you make your move *before* the opponent has taken their turn; Helps with Time, Creates psychological pressure
Tactical Vision: Tactics are maneuvers that take advantage of short-term opportunities. They can support your strategy and/or destroy your opponent's plan and ideas; Tactical and combinational themes must be mastered
Opening Game: A chess opening is the group of initial moves of a chess game. In addition to referring to specific move sequences, the opening is the first phase of a chess game,
Middle Game: The middlegame in chess is the portion of the game in between the opening and the endgame, though there is no clear line between the opening and middlegame or between the middlegame and endgame. The theory on the middlegame is less developed than the opening or endgame.
Development: It is important to develop your whole Army. Note the word whole. Some players get a few pieces out and launch an attack. The necessity for quick development depends on the type of Center that exists. For example, if the center is closed, development is not necessarily a priority because the enemy pieces won't be able to break into your position. However, if the center is open, development takes on a great significance
Initiative**: The side that forces its ideas on a reacting opponent; Is making believable threats or responding to threats
Dynamic Advantage: A dynamic Advantage centers around temporary items like development, initiative, and more active pieces. Make sure you make use of this Dynamic Plus before the opponent catches up in development, the initiative runs dry, or you're active pieces are exchanged
Compensation: If you give up something (space, structural weakness, squares, material) and get nothing in return you are in trouble. However, if you give up the same imbalances (space, structural weakness, squares, material) in exchange for different types of imbalance you are said to have compensation for whatever it is you gave up
Material Advantage: A material advantage goes to the player who has more and/or stronger pieces.
End Game: In chess and chess-like games, the endgame is the stage of the game when a few pieces are left on the board. The line between middlegame and endgame is often not clear and may occur gradually or with the quick exchange of a few pairs of pieces.
TOÜSSAINT'S PHARMACOECONOMICS
A pharmacopoeia, pharmacopeia, or pharmacopoea (from the obsolete typography pharmacopœia, meaning "drug-making"), in its modern technical sense, is a book containing directions for the identification of compound medicines, and published by the authority of a government or a medical or pharmaceutical society. Descriptions of preparations are called monographs. In a broader sense it is a reference work for pharmaceutical drug specifications. Although older writings exist which deal with herbal medicine, the major initial work in the field is considered to be the Edwin Smith Papyrus in Egypt, Pliny's pharmacopoeia. Pharmacoeconomics refers to the scientific discipline that compares the value of one pharmaceutical drug or drug therapy to another. It is a sub-discipline of health economics. A pharmacoeconomic study evaluates the cost (expressed in monetary terms) and effects (expressed in terms of monetary value, efficacy or enhanced quality of life) of a pharmaceutical product. Pharmacoeconomic studies serve to guide optimal healthcare resource allocation, in a standardized and scientifically grounded manner.

The Belgian banking system has long been known to be a sophisticated and liberal banking system. Standardized customer account numbers for all financial intermediaries are widely used, and internet and phone banking are well developed. There are no restrictions on the free movement of capital and regulatory requirements are minimal. There is a particularly wide and flexible range of loan products offered to companies, with no discrimination as to the nationality of the investor. There are also many options available when it comes to raising risk capital. Thanks to an efficient branch network, there is a large number of Belgian and foreign banks servicing the country. Due to the sheer volume of international business carried out in Belgium, more than half of all banking transactions are international financial transactions. The majority of Belgian banks also have an extensive international network based on strategically located branches in the main financial markets around the world. A number of the 106 banks located in Belgium feature prominently in the top 100 international banks. The combined assets of the three main banks (Fortis, ING and KB Group) amount to $370 billion. All credit institutions (banks and savings banks) operate under the same legal framework and are monitored by the same supervisory authorities. The Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission (BFAC) supervises the activities of financial institutions, including banks, investment funds, stock brokers, finance companies and holding companies. As a result of the deregulation of the banking sector in 1993, credit institutions have been able to offer all financial services, as defined by European legislation. The BFAC supervises the financial sector in close coordination with the National Bank of Belgium (Belgium’s central bank). The main bankcard used in Belgium is the Mister Cash-Bancontact debit card, issued along with a PIN number upon opening a bank account in Belgium. In order to open an account, proof of identity, such as a passport, is required. The Bancontact card can be used to withdraw cash at ATMs, and to pay for almost anything in Belgium, from a newspaper, parking meter, gasoline, or a loaf of bread from the bakery. Credit options are also available on application. All bank ATMs in Belgium accept the Bancontact card; some accept MasterCard, Visa and other credit and debit cards. The major credit cards are generally accepted in stores, restaurants, and hotels.
AgBank and Options Exchange: Since the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, ABC has been formed and abolished several times. On July 10, 1951, two banks of the Republic of China, Farmers Bank of China and Cooperation Bank, merged to form the Agricultural Cooperation Bank, which ABC regards as its ancestor. However, the bank was merged into People's Bank of China, the central bank in 1952. The first bank bearing the name Agricultural Bank of China was founded in 1955, but it was merged into the central bank in 1957. In 1963 the Chinese government formed another agricultural bank which was also merged into the central bank two years later. Today's Agricultural Bank of China was founded in February 1979. As the People's Bank of China began spinning off its commercial banking functions after 1978, ABC's focus on providing farmers with financial services increased.[10]: 225  ABC was restructured to form a holding company called Agricultural Bank of China Limited.[11] It was listed on the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges in July 2010.[12] Founded in 1973, the CBOE Options Exchange is the world's largest options exchange with contracts focusing on individual equities, indexes, and interest rates.
Bishop's College School or BCS is an English-language non-profit independent boarding prep school in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada for students in Grades 7 to 12.[2][3][4][5] Founded in 1836, BCS is the fifth oldest private school in Canada.[6][2][7] BCS has the highest endowment per student of any independent school in Canada.[8][9] Seven BCS people have been named Rhodes Scholars.[10][11] A royal charter was granted in 1853 from Queen Victoria for Bishop's College when BCS was the constituent junior division. The school was recognized as the "Eton of Canada" initially by the first Governor General of Canada, Lord Monck on a visit in 1864.[12][13][5] It locates at the heart the historic Eastern Townships and near New England. The school is recognized as a Quebec cultural heritage site in the Répertoire du patrimoine culturel du Québec.[14][15]
Grey collar – Workforce that is not classified in blue collar nor white collar. It is occasionally used to describe elderly individuals working beyond the age of retirement, as well as those occupations incorporating elements of both blue- and white-collar.
Gold collar – Refers to children of wealthy parents working jobs they normally would not be qualified for. Alternatively refers to highly-skilled professionals in high-demand fields such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, and scientists.
JAVA ANGELINA FRANC (Central African Franc CFA): Petrodollars are crude oil export revenues denominated in U.S. dollars. The term gained currency in the mid-1970s when soaring oil prices generated large trade and current account surpluses for oil exporting countries. A currency peg is a policy in which a national government or central bank sets a fixed exchange rate for its currency with a foreign currency or a basket of currencies and stabilizes the exchange rate between countries. The global coffee industry is worth $495.50 billion as of 2023. The United States contributes $95.58 billion to this total, which is more than any other country in the world.
Athletics Training: The force-velocity curve is a physical representation of the inverse relationship between force and velocity. Understanding the interaction between force and velocity and their influences on exercise selection is vital for any strength and conditioning professional. For example, it is essential that a strength and conditioning coach understands the physiological and biomechanical differences between prescribing a one-repetition maximum (1RM) deadlift and five-repetition maximum (5RM) jump squats – as one will produce higher forces and lower velocities than the other. Failure to understand the relationship and its importance will likely lead to less than optimal training prescription.
Opportunity Costs represent the potential benefits that an individual, investor, or business misses out on when choosing one alternative over another. Because opportunity costs are unseen by definition, they can be easily overlooked.
Game Theory has a wide range of applications, including psychology, evolutionary biology, war, politics, economics, and business. Despite its many advances, game theory is still a young and developing science.
Meat Source: Wild game is surprisingly leaner, relatively higher in Omega-3 fatty acids, lower in cholesterol (due to the low saturated fat content), as well as devoid of steroids, antibiotics and other additives because of their natural origin and active ways of life. When compared to domestic animals such as cows and chickens, game meats have an average of 4.3% fat while their domesticated competitors typically have a fat content of 25-30%. Not just any fat either. We’re talking a lot less saturated fat (aka the bad fat) and a much higher proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (aka the good fat). Additionally, the protein, vitamin, and mineral composition of wild game stands to compete with its domesticated competitors, especially when it comes to zinc and iron. This is due to their natural diet of wild vegetation as opposed to grain and corn. (Wild Turkey, Deer, Duck, and Jackrabbit)
Alkaline D-Aspartic Acid Gastronomy: D-Aspartic Acid is an amino acid that is used to make proteins in the body and is a part of several metabolic reactions. One systematic review found that there was evidence of D-Aspartic Acid boosting testosterone levels in male animals. Some foods that are high in D-Aspartic Acid include: Poultry, Meat, Eggs, Dairy, Rice, Oats & Barley Donut Flour, Peaches, Dried Apricots, Nectarines, Cherries, Plums, and Bananas. The alkaline diet is based on the idea that replacing acid-forming foods with alkaline foods can improve your health.
Spinach: Specifically, researchers led by Maria Parr — a professor of pharmaceutical chemistry at the Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany — examined the effect of ecdysterone on athletic performance and muscle strength. EcdysteroneTrusted Source is the main compound in spinach extract. It is a phytosteroid — that is, a steroid that occurs naturally in plants and belongs to a class called phytosterols, which are “structurally similar to cholesterol.” Previous studiesTrusted Source in mammals have shown that ecdysteroids have a wide range of beneficial effects. In the 1980s, researchers dubbed ecdysterone the “Russian secret,” following suspicions that Russian Olympic athletes were using it as a performance boosting supplement.
Salmon as Unsaturated Fat Protein: The fatty-acid-binding proteins (FABPs) are a family of transport proteins for fatty acids and other lipophilic substances such as eicosanoids and retinoids.[1][2] These proteins are thought to facilitate the transfer of fatty acids between extra- and intracellular membranes.[3] Some family members are also believed to transport lipophilic molecules from outer cell membrane to certain intracellular receptors such as PPAR.[4] The FABPs are intracellular carriers that “solubilize” the endocannabinoid anandamide (AEA), transporting AEA to the breakdown by FAAH, and compounds that bind to FABPs block AEA breakdown, raising its level. The cannabinoids (THC and CBD) are also discovered to bind human FABPs (1, 3, 5, and 7) that function as intracellular carriers, as THC and CBD inhibit the cellular uptake and catabolism of AEA by targeting FABPs.[5] Competition for FABPs may in part or wholly explain the increased circulating levels of endocannabinoids reported after consumption of cannabinoids.[6] Levels of fatty-acid-binding protein have been shown to decline with ageing in the mouse brain, possibly contributing to age-associated decline in synaptic activity.

fun facts: Electra is based on engines that really did test the limits of and even overload old 1500 V DC lines and often ran with both pantographs up because they could pull up to 1200 amps (this reduces it to a more reasonable 600 through each pan). There’s a fair bit of discussion about it here (including the CC 6500, closely related to the CC 40100), French sources also talk about this being a problem on their old DC lines.
Electrical generation capacity is a noted issue on a lot of old electric networks since they were usually made for much lower power trains, HVAC alone means newer trains draw a much higher load. It’s a common issue in European countries with DC-based systems, several older commuter systems. The weirdest example of all is probably the Milwaukee Road’s electric divisions in the rugged mountains struggling to run large electric engines as helpers in its final years because it was based on ragtime-era tech and had very limited generation abilities (mostly hydroelectric!)

The world disappears, when he plugs into the network.
It turns into ones and zeroes, abundances of numbers and codes that he doesn't always understand. It doesn't matter how long he's been doing this, how much he learns, how many near death experiences he goes through.
Every time he plugs in, everything is created anew. The backdoors he's weaved fade into scattered strains. The way in gets taken out. The network tries to eat him alive.
It's exhausting.
He used to love that exhaustion, adrenaline racing through him as he outran a system's virus, planting his own before it could catch up. Slipping out seconds before it would overload, leaving nothing left. Waking up to a heaving chest and thousands wired to his account, body weak but alive.
Recovery was hard on him, on his body and mind, but worth it. He'd treat the group to dinner the next day, takeout they couldn't afford otherwise, pizza boxes stained with grease.
Jeongin's eyes shining in awe, Felix trying to pretend he wasn't hungry. Han reaching over and squeezing his hand, Chan shooting him looks from across the room - worried, always so worried even when things were okay. Seungmin threatening his patience only because he knew he could get away with it. Hyunjin putting aside enough for Changbin, where he would arrive harried and shoulders sagging with the weight of a world Minho hadn't been a part of for a long, long time.
He's been digital for so long that sometimes he forgets what's happened on the surface. Swimming beside code was always easier than having to deal with anything physical, like blood and bruises and a city torn apart by gang wars.
He was free, in his own way.
"Time's up."
He's pulled from the network faster than he can register, leaving him disoriented and gasping loud as cruel faces stare down at him, sneering. His heart races as he tries to remember his own body and mind, but the codes have been affecting him worse and worse every time he dives now, sticking to his brain like a brand.
He's forgetting details, tricks. The physical world, outside of the system. He only remembers his ragtag group by thinking of them at least once a day, in between being shoved under and dragged back to the surface, pulling old memories forward in an attempt of remembering to the more recent ones.
"Not bad," a different voice muses from his right, eyes scanning the computer screen beside him. "Five nodes in three minutes."
Minho's body starts to shake, an after-effect from going under that started a few years ago. Technology still grows better and better, but the human body does not. He tries to lift his arm to watch, able to count it down, but forgets that he can't move. Not freely, anyway.
"Wasn't he tapped for ten?" A deep voice rasps amidst the movement of the room, masked faces filtering in and out of his vision. A needle is prepped and stuck into the crook of his elbow, injecting a booster. It burns going in, and he's so weak that a cry spills from his lips, resulting in someone else laughing.
"Listen to the thing. He can barely handle five!"
Minho tries to shake his head, but it's useless when his body feels this way. Unsure which way is up, loaded with street drugs that were laced with things to make people who dived do their jobs without problem. But his body was rejecting it, rejecting all of it, and he wasn't sure how much longer he would last here, like this, thrown under every half hour.
No one was meant to dive continuously, no matter what was in their system. He should have never taken so many jobs in such a short amount of time, put himself out there for everyone in the black markets to see. But he'd been desperate, and Chan had been missing running on three days, and they needed a place to squat, food to eat, things to protect themselves with -
He knew the job sounded off from the moment he saw it. They were offering too much money for too little, a run and tag he could do in his sleep. The money would provide for them long enough that Changbin and Felix could start looking for Chan, while Minho kept an eye on the others as they moved from place to place.
Instead, he had failed them all.
"Fine, we'll do ten this time. If he can't handle it, we'll sell him to the highest bidder and move onto the next." A long pause. "Happy?"
"Very," the other voice snaps back. "Plug him in."
Minho tries to move. The table is freezing against his skin. Metal cages his arms and legs in, curling around his shoulders. Needle marks cover his arm. His head is splitting in half. His body is tearing itself apart.
Hands fumble at his port, and then all he knows is code as they hook him into the network again. It floods him fast, and his back arches against the table, restraints keeping him still when all he wants to do is run.
Chan is missing, and so is he.
It's the last coherent thought he has, before he hears a timer echo in the distance and all he knows is the race to what they need, before they dispose of him too.

Infodump on how Golden’s powers work!
So Goldie’s powers are a little mysterious, and that is for plot reasons, but I also wanted to explain some of her powers for clarity :)
- Golden Heart:
She can remove this from her chest at will (think the red Determination heart from Undertale), and if it’s only a short distance away from her, she will be fine. If it gets taken too far from her, she will faint, and won’t be able to heal from any injuries naturally. This can prove fatal.
Her heart is the source of her power, and due to this she tries to protect it. If she dies, it glows and regenerates her body without any prior injuries, a lot like in Doctor Who (except she doesn’t change her face), or in a video game like Kingdom Hearts. She’s just sent to a void for a while and then wakes up again without injury.
- Glitch powers:
Glitches are people who have the ability to teleport and can see the future a little. This is due to them having a traumatic experience, it can happen to anyone but only a few individuals unlock the glitch power. It essentially helps them survive any future problems, acting as a magical ‘survival mode’.
Their bodies glitch and buzz when they’re distressed, but throughout the years they have also developed a glitch network. This allows them to teleport to certain points where portals open (ie there could be a glitch “hotspot” in a city center, and they can teleport there at will, but it can be a little random). They can also glitch short distances, ie when Goldie glitches up a pillar she’s looking at, and this doesn’t require them to use the network. The network is for long distances, looking somewhere and choosing to move is a short-distance teleportation.
If a glitch gets too overwhelmed or uses too much power, they can “overload”. This leads to them fainting. They are more prone to overloads when they are sick or scared.
If a glitch’s power is removed from them, two things can happen.
A) if the power is uncontained, it becomes a monster. It can inhabit nightmares or visions that the glitch will have, and it can be seen as their power calling and wanting to return to them. The monsters are usually very loud and can be aggressive, as they are a manifestation of the glitch’s trauma.
B) it can be contained within someone, and will have to combine with their power. (Ie Vor taking Goldie’s power). However, glitch powers can be very uncooperative, and will often want to return to their original body, or ‘host’. They also can resist attacking people they love, by lessening blows or countering them altogether from inside, which is frustrating for the person trying to control the glitch power.
If a glitch dies, their spirit will live on as a glitched ghost. (Think ‘glitching remains’ from Little Nightmares 2). These glitches can only interact with the world a little, and usually choose to pass into the Final World than stay in the mortal realm.
- Purple dress/ Power boost:
This happens when her power is boosted by someone else, such as Yen Sid. Her robe turns purple and she is given a power upgrade, and her hat changes. This is usually reflected by her powers reflecting whoever she’s borrowing from (ie in Part 4 she could use light like Percy and electricity like Oswald)
Tumblr media
I won’t spoil any more of Goldie’s power, as it’s a big part of the story, but I hope you enjoy this little summary!
- Goldie 💛

30 days of productivity
(Because 100 is scary)
02/30
I was productive and made a lot of progress today, but I'm nowhere near the end. Last night I worked late on campus and then slept until morning on a beanbag. It's not good, I know, but it's where we're at right now.
Things I did:
algae data wrangling and conditioning ~3 hours?
held open hours at the makerspace (tried to do more data analysis, but ended up helping a bunch of people with their projects... at least it was a really nice break!)
asked for a teeny tiny extension on my paper, so I now have until tomorrow morning (downside: I will probably be working through the night :_( alas, I can only blame myself)
Things I have yet to do:
reach out to nonlinear dynamics professor and ask for a meeting to discuss bioconvection project (ultra! high! priority!)
finish data analysis and generate plots
write a whole-ass academic paper draft by 9am (I'm gonna die)
prepare for electronics oral exam (itll be ok. itll be ok. itll be ok. o.O)
shower!
Musings:
I need to clean my room. I feel like the clutter might be what's making me reluctant to work and drowsy... like the mental overload of looking at all the bits and bobs drains the energy straight from my brain. Luckily, I have some time this weekend to clean! (and I kind of have to since a prospective housemate is coming to look at this room on Monday)
I think I want to get some more plants. I don't have time to do much gardening or plant-networking (where you ask your plant-friends for cuttings), but I do have enough energy to keep them alive and they make my room feel so comfy. I guess it'll have to wait until summer.
I had a thought earlier that I kind of wish school was year-round? I have this problem where I get used to the workload throughout the semester, and I start actually delivering with the intensity that I'm supposed to, and suddenly it's summer or winter break and everything changes and I have so much time to forget all of the useful skills and habits I've developed. It's frustrating! And any time I visit my family home I get roped into so many little tasks that I have no time to myself to rest. Part of it is that I'm bad at setting boundaries with family, but I do wish a week of home didn't factory-reset all of my hard-earned good habits away into the abyss.
Good luck with your work and studies everyone!!! You can do it! <3

If a Time Lord went deep-sea diving, would it be possible for them to use their respiratory bypass system to prevent (or at least lessen the effects of) nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness?
Can Time Lords prevent deep sea diving conditions?
If I had a penny for every question about deep-sea diving I'd had, I'd have, well, none, so thank you for this truly original query 😃
🌊 Understanding the Risks
To answer this question, we first need to understand what makes deep-sea diving dangerous:
1️⃣ Narcosis: At great depths, increased pressure causes inert gases (primarily nitrogen) in the air mixture to dissolve into the bloodstream and tissues at much higher levels than on the surface. This happens due to Henry's Law, which states that gas solubility increases with pressure. When too much nitrogen saturates the nervous system, it impairs brain function, causing symptoms like confusion, euphoria, and hallucinations—aka, "the rapture of the deep."
2️⃣ Decompression Sickness (DCS): During ascent, as pressure decreases, dissolved gases come out of solution. If the ascent is too rapid, nitrogen forms bubbles in the blood and tissues. These bubbles block blood flow, damage tissues, and can cause joint pain, paralysis, or even death.
🫁 Gallifreyan Biology vs. Deep-Sea Hazards
Gallifreyan biology gives them an edge in extreme conditions, and it's not all about the respiratory bypass.
1️⃣ Advanced Oxygen Regulation
A Gallifreyan's independent pulmonary network separates oxygen delivery from their circulatory systems. This could theoretically reduce nitrogen uptake into the bloodstream, as their respiratory efficiency might decrease the volume of dissolved gases under pressure.
Their ability to suppress metabolism voluntarily means they can slow gas absorption further, providing a natural buffer against narcosis and DCS. However, this is only a delay tactic—it doesn't eliminate the problem entirely.
2️⃣ The Role of the Kaizegea
The kaizegea (a GIL concept as an organ for filtration, likely to be renamed soon) acts as a highly sophisticated filter, rerouting gases based on their utility. While this would slow nitrogen saturation, its limitations are obvious:
No Escape Hatch: Underwater, the body cannot expel excess nitrogen or other inert gases. If nitrogen accumulates, it becomes a ticking time bomb, waiting to cause trouble during ascent.
Overload Risks: Even with advanced filtering, extreme pressures would eventually overwhelm the kaizegea's capacity, allowing nitrogen to infiltrate tissues.
3️⃣ Respiratory Bypass
The respiratory bypass allows Time Lords to halt gas intake entirely, conserving internal oxygen and reducing exposure to additional nitrogen. However, this technique is time-limited (12–20 minutes during exertion) and doesn't address gases already absorbed into tissues.
4️⃣ Adaptability of the Pulmonary Network
Gallifreyan carrier cells can reprocess CO₂ into oxygen, providing a temporary salvation in low-oxygen environments. Unfortunately, this doesn't mitigate the physical effects of dissolved gases under high pressure.
⚠️ What a Gallifreyan Can and Can't Do
So despite their biology, Gallifreyans cannot escape the fundamental rules of physics:
Narcosis: Gallifreyan neural plasticity and psionic control might delay the onset of the symptoms of narcosis, but the sheer volume of dissolved gases at extreme depths would still impair their judgment and motor functions.
Decompression Sickness: The respiratory bypass and kaizegea can slow gas absorption and allow better degassing, but any inability to expel excess nitrogen underwater creates a high-risk scenario. A rapid ascent would trigger bubble formation, potentially causing severe DCS.
Buoyancy Control: Time Lords can consciously regulate oxygen levels in their bodies, giving them excellent buoyancy control. This could reduce exertion and assist with a controlled ascent. However, this ability doesn't counteract the need for proper decompression practices.
🏫 So ...
While Gallifreyan biology offers plenty of tools to manage the risks of deep-sea diving, they're not immune to the laws of physics. The kaizegea and respiratory bypass can delay problems but can't eliminate them, especially if nitrogen accumulates over time. In fact, their advanced systems might create new risks, like a build-up of inert gases that could exacerbate narcosis or DCS.
Controlled ascents, decompression stops, and proper dive planning are still essential. And hey, if anyone could make a wetsuit look great, it's probably a Gallifreyan.
