AITA for messaging an ex friend who blocked me on WhatsApp?

Before you vote YTA, this AITA isn't about block evading but I didn't know how else to describe the situation.

Ex friend 21F and I 20F are coworkers. I won't go into what happened between us because it's a loooong story, both of us made mistakes but she blows everything out of proportions and I was weak and couldn't defend myself from the wild accusations she kept making at me.

Anyway, once I started setting boundaries and standing up for myself, she got upset and blocked me on WhatsApp. For those who don't know, if you try to message someone who blocked you on WhatsApp, the message will go through but they won't receive it, after I realized she had blocked me, it felt like I was screaming into the void.

Anyway, I didn't stop messaging her, I sent long rants about all the pent up anger that accumulated throughout the one year we were friends (or more accurately tried to make the friendship work), talking about how she misinterprets my whole character and believes she's an infallible angel who never done anything to me etc etc etc.

The messages were satisfying somehow, I felt like I lectured her on what she did to me, it also reminded me of letting it out as if I were writing in a diary. I would've stopped at that point but she still harasses me from time to time even though we don't talk anymore, so I made it a habit to scream at her in her chat whenever she does something to me. I literally turned her chat into a venting diary.

One day, she "stole" my chair right in front of me, between brackets because it was clear she actually didn't know it was mine but the etiquette is to ask first and/or check if this chair was taken. She can literally know that if she just looked at the computer screen and see if an account was logged on or off.

I wanted to call her out but after all, we were both sternly told to stay away from each other. So I kept my cool because I didn't want to make a scene and instead went to WhatsApp to scream at her again. In the rant I called her thief and all sorts of insults that implied she did it on purpose, that hurts no one because she won't read it. Not to mention, she did accuse me of stealing her money before so it was like I was getting back at her for that.

After a couple of hours, she was crying and ranting to our coworkers that she accused of stealing, and that we "chould've talked about it like adults" because she didn't mean to take a taken chair and how she was finally moving on from this toxic friendship but I won't let it go blah blah blah.

I was confused because she wasn't supposed to read the message, that's when I realized she had unblocked me sometimes these past couple of weeks for some reason. I was called to HR and I would've been fired but I defended myself by listing all the terrible things she did to me. Finding evidence wasn't difficult because my rants included chat screenshots of the terrible things she said to be before and they decided she was a bigger AH than I was, but they were creeped by my behaviors and called me out on it. Not only HR, but my coworkers too.

AITA for continuing to send messages without taking into account the possibility she might unblock me anytime?

My opinion on the twist is basically just, it really depends if Mephone just made them or if he gave them base personalities.

The contestants have free will that's not a question, the show doesn't make sense unless they do (although it will most likely be questioned by the characters themselves if they do or not).

I really hate the idea of them having base personalities. Because it takes away a lot of growth that happens, mainly the accountable of characters who were bad at the start.

Like Balloon for example can you really blame him for what he did if he just, was acting out of his base code and hadn't become a full person yet? And I LOVE that Balloon was a bad person in S1 it's a massive part of why I like him as a character, but if it wasn't really his original thought to manipulate OJ & Bomb (well, try to anyways he was so bad at it), then what's the point.

It takes away a lot from his character. It would change his arc from learning to be a better person and accepting he doesn't need to have everyone's approval In order to be that better person, to just growing past what you're made for. Sure the approval thing is still there but it holds much less weight when you change the meaning of the first half.

It also takes away a part of why he and Nickel work as a duo. It takes away them being parallels. Because Nickel only started being shitty in S2, so he's 100% responsible for his actions no matter what. His arc doesn't change meaning, but if Balloon's does? Then there goes a big part of what makes them so good.

And growing past what you were made for IS a good storyline I love it for Bot and Mephone but not Balloon. Not for Knife.

But if Mephone DIDN'T make their personalities, and instead just created their bodies, I'm way more open to it. It doesn't change the meaning. It would still be Balloon's idea to manipulate people and Knife's to kill them. It keeps their depth. It keeps them, well, them.

Earlier in one of the blogs I follow, someone complained about how the fandom treats Taco and compared her to Knife and Nickel claiming they get treated better even though 'they're worse'.

I don't think I EVEN NEED TO explain knife.

But Nickel tho.. The amount of people that labeled him abusive/asshole is amazing and I NEED to talk about it.

Here we go..

1. No, Nickel does NOT get well-treated in the fandom.

2. You're comparison is invalid because neither is the same despite their similarities. Nickel was a manipulation-paranoid who took bad choices that hurt others without knowing, because not only he canoncally has very low emotional intelligence, he also..

.. Yup.

Nickel himself was proven to be terrified of feeling out of control on himself and most of his actions were to protect his game AND allies. This went wrong because he did more damage than good, but it was not intentional and never was.

Taco however, did what she did purely because of the money. We don't have enough information to why, but she had rather isolated herself and take terrible risks than loose the money completely, so it must be a desperate choice the one she did. Without mentioning the distress she feels at the fact that she absolutely destroyed everything she had for an ambition she's trying to get over now and that it wasn't only all for nothing, but she feels threatened by the people that she hurt having to face her again and remind her of what she's done.

Nickel has trust issues he covers up to not be taken advantage of.

Taco is regretting but not being able to apologize due to her fears of what she used to be.

They're not the same, neither is completely innocent but it's obvious there's much more to them than what is given information of.

this is an extremely unpopular opinion in the osc and like everywhere actually but i hate it when people excessively hate on "mean" characters. like especially when the characters are otherwise well-written and they just hate them because they did some bad shit. its legitimately so annoying

A little rant about leaks because I'm lowkey dreading them. And I'd appreciate it if you'd read it (and if not... 👁👁).

I find the jjk fandom's (though it's true for others too) reliance on leaks very off-putting. I know people want to look forward to something in the middle of the week and talk about it, but this just feels disrespectful, while also being at the cost of other people getting to enjoy it as they want to whether you care about getting spoiled or not.

So many people just don't tag leaks and spoilers properly (forget places where tagging doesn't even make a difference). Seeing things trending with the context of previous chapters explains everything. Not to mention people mis-tagging spoilers and leaks interchangeably (you can remove leak tags after the chapter is officially published but not spoiler tags!!) And no, you're not subtle with your 'out of context spoilers' to someone who has all previous context.

But what boggles my mind is why would you want someone to shout the punchline of a joke in your face before any of the setup has been done. You'll have a bunch of deepfried 2 pixel screenshot of screenshot quality manga panels of crucial moments with none of the build up and pacing. Paired with the most lacklustre explainations of what's happening (the phrasing of which can be biased to the leaker's opinions). Translating isn't easy. To convey what exactly something means from one language to another in an effective and in the intended way isn't easy (shoutout to fan translators tho y'all are amazing thank you for your time and effort)

And whether you care about the story or not, heck even if you think the mangaka themself doesn't care about it, it is just so disrespectful to the content that you're consuming. Making comics and manga isn't easy (churning them weakly is insane imo esp when a lot of mangaka aren't even full time artists) so why wouldn't you allow yourself to consume their story the way they've themself laid it out. Where one panel comes after the other. Where one expression has context in the next page. Where a dialogue has weight only when placed with another dialogue. Give the creator(s) this little grace too, because whether you like a story or not, there is still a huge amount of effort and skill, by multiple people, going into it.

And I personally love interacting with the fandoms I'm in, literally sometimes the only source of joy I have (yes ik leave me alone) is interacting with other fans and having my mind blown over their art and writing and theories. And I'd rather not be spoiled unless I'm myself seeking them out or just reading the actual chapter. So this involves me either spoiling it for myself before someone else does it, or spoiler dodging for 5 OUT OF 7 DAYS A WEEK EVERY WEEK.

I'm not even saying you should only look for official sources or whatever because I know not everyone has access to legal places to read (tho the shounen jump app is there for those interested, but yeah i get it for other publications), but there are better ways to read/hate-readyour fav/least fav manga out there without ruining it for someone else. The wait is juuust a couple of days more. There is absolutely no dearth of fan made content that can't help you last another few days, maybe your new fav fan creator is right around a little wait (ahem check my bs out if you'd like ahem ahem).

I just want to be able to interact with the fandom for more than just 2 days a week, and I don't like my accounts dying because i dissapear 5 days either, and is that a such a bad thing? I come online to have fun, not run an obstacle race y'know?

It’s all about “being gentle” and “respecting boundaries” when people are nonverbal, but when I’ve struggled with being hyperverbal and poor volume control my entire life I’m just obnoxious and have to learn to respect other people’s boundaries and learn that most people don’t want to listen to what I have to say.

Because nonverbal tendencies can be ignored, but I’m an active problem that has to be fucking solved.
