At the heart of Todd Field’s new film is a conductor who cannot see beyond her generation’s field of vision.

“To paraphrase Schopenhauer—who gets several shout-outs in Tár—every generation mistakes the limits of its own field of vision for the limits of the world. But what happens when generational visions collide? How should we respond?”

“As we learn in her classroom, [Lydia] Tár’s method is direct combat. For she is Gen X—like me—and one of the striking things about my crowd is that although we like to speak rapturously of emotion in the aesthetic sense, we prefer to scorn emotions personally (by way of claiming to not really have any) and also to trample over other peoples’. It doesn’t occur to Tár that sweet young Max may have serious trouble with anxiety—although we in the audience certainly notice his knees bouncing frantically. The power differential between these two means that a rant Tár might launch into around a dinner table in Berlin—to much receptive laughter—is experienced as ritual humiliation by a young man exposed in front of his peers. But Tár is discombobulated also. It’s a long climb down from Cultural Luminary to Contra, and no doubt a great shock to find yourself so sharply reassessed and redefined by the generation below you. Do twenty-five years of glass-ceiling breaking and artistic excellence count for nothing? It’s enough to pitch a girl into a midlife crisis.”

I will simply NEVER shut up about how each of the Crows have a parallel character who then foils them in other ways.

Nina and Jesper are both outgoing, flirtatious characters who struggle with addiction. However, Nina's addiction was something she induced to save herself and the others, and something she knew she would have to fight to overcome. On the other hand Jesper spends most of the books in denial of his addiction, and it has dire consequences (Inej's stabbing and his father's farm being put at risk.) They are both Grisha, something that has had a devastating impact on both of their lives, however, Nina was able to grow up learning to harness her powers and Jesper was taught to fear his instead.

Matthias and Inej are both faith-driven people with strong beliefs. However, where Inej's beliefs have made her stronger and positively guided her decisions, Matthias' have made him full of hatred and eventually lead him to his death. Their respective romances cause them to go against part of their beliefs, or, in Matthias' case, completely unlearn the prejudices that he used to justify through his beliefs. They also both arrive in Kerch a captive and spend their first few months there imprisoned in some way.

Wylan and Kaz are the only characters who grow up in the same country, and while their class differences mean they begin their lives in very different ways, this does not stop them from arriving in the same place. Both of their stories in the Barrel begin with them narrowly escaping death, dragging themselves out of a canal and simply making the decision not to die no matter what the cost. Morally they are starkly opposite, with Wylan being the only Crow to blatantly confront Kaz on his actions and motives throughout the series. They are both quick-thinkers and good liars. By the end of Crooked Kingdom, Wylan begins to match Kaz' intelligence when it comes to 'criminal mastermind' thinking. They are also the only Crows who subvert expectations from their own POV, making you think they've failed when actually that was the plan all along. (They also have the same number of 'WANTED' posters in that one scene in CK.)

ANOTHER kids movie crow parallel

Ferdinand and Nina = Nina and Matthais. Matthias is the bull, Nina's well, Nina.

Why do I think so? Nina from 'Ferdinand' spends the whole movie trying to convince everyone that Ferdinand is not a monster and not like other bulls (who would and could kill people)

Nina from SoC spends her time trying to prove matty innocent and when she meets Zoya and the other Grisha she tries to tell them Matthias is not like the drüskelle any more. Show!Nina also tells Zoya that Matthias is not just a slab of fur

Conclusion : go re-watch 'Ferdinand' (the 2017/2018 vers)

Should I do all the crows? I've done Kaz. I have Jesper and Wylan ready.

Jeff the killer

He would match your energy i guess? Not like he is your clone or something, but you two can and will get along (just give it some time). Jeff is a mean and teasing person so he totally gets you, he is the first one to bully someone or manipulate them in order to get what he wants. He also have some sort of god complex, he is the best and always right (well yeah sure no cap), so it may be something that you dont like. I believe you two would constantly fight over everything Also congrats, you got yourself a drinking buddy!! Loves that you are so..confident..in yourself?? He kinda likes a bit slutty people (and i mean it in a good way i swear), that have tendency to flirt and show their body? And they have even bigger sex drive? Is that suprising? Maybe not really, but Jeff is often horny!

Ben Drowned

Yeah, Ben would be blushy and all submissive becasue of your personality and the way you live your life! Like okay, it can be a lot but not necesserly in the bad way. I feel like he would also flirt back, he is head over heels when he sees you and its just so hard for him not to simp for you... Ben doesnt have many braincless yet they are all horny. You dont even have to manipulate him, he would do literally anything for you - he is on his knees barking and meowing. Ben has huge sex drive anyway, so its not like he will complain. Isnt bothered by drinking alcohol or other drugs, Ben is pretty cool to do all that with him. You being you is perfect for Ben, could he even been happier? This boy is great for both - having fun or talking shit about others.

Nina the killer

Okay, its not too complicated - you would absolutely get a long with Nina!! Like she is just walking energetic ray of sunshine?? You can be annoyed by that, but there are many similar aspects when it comes to your personality - even tho its not always shown in the same way. Nina of course has her vulgar side, I mean, she is a killer after all..?? And a huge gosspier, she just loves causing chaos!! I also feel like Nina would be your fangirl, loves having popular partner and loves that they are all to her! Nina is such a huge flirt too, she is very confident of her way of being and her body. She doesnt say no to a party too, so you wont be bored with her.

Eyeless Jack

Jack would be actually the one to try stop you from drinking? And the one who would be pretty concern with your way of life? Dont get me wrong, he does like you but come on.. its not like your life style is healthy and perfectly normal, but who is he to judge? Whatever makes you happy! Propably one of not so many things that makes you both similar is being demon kind of stuff? I cant think of other things to be honest, well okay, maybe not including his sex drive not from this earth. But no worries, guess what - opposites attract! But on the other hand he kinda gets it? You are cool and powerful so its not like you should be good and innocent, just have something from you life!
