Just... what kind of gt thing? What story, what goals?

Borrowers, perhaps? Borrowers would certainly fit right in with the Weird Solutions vibe of most p&c games

Gullivered? the various goals could be doing random convoluted favors for Lilliputians. And it already comes with a pre-existing Smaller Starting Puzzle: get them to let you wander loose. Maybe you play as a Lilliputian sometimes?

Or perhaps a game where you're a scientist working on a shrink ray, only for it to explode, shrinking you and scattering pieces all over your lab. You have to retrieve them and rebuild the device to return to normal size. (maybe after you fix it there are more puzzles which require sizeshifting)

Most of the time I use an app called Pixel Studio.

It's neat because I can use it on pc and android. I really like the workflow in this one, but when I plan to animate something I use libresprite (which is basically aseprite but free?). You can animate in Pixel Studio, but I use a paperdoll system for my character sprites. I have extra layers for hair, arms, faces, clothing, legs etc. And libresprite gives you better control over layers and frames.

Pixel Studio, however, has a cool export feature that lets you directly upscale the image. I usually post my sprites here in 4x.

I use good old GIMP for a few simple touchups or some mirroring and stuff. But that's basically because the other two programs are still opened with some projects I don't want to close. I'm lazy.

When I do animations I just mirror the frames, but you have to do it frame by frame. In GIMP my selection tool is capped to 32x48 (the size of my sprites) and snaps to the grid (which is also 32x48). To be fair, I could just mirror the frame in godot, but that scares me somehow?

If you want to know anything else, I'm happy to talk about all this stuff, because I have no one in person who can relate 🫠

Pronoun Practice Website Idea

TL;DR: Anyone want to make a website like Duo Lingo for learning and becoming proficient at someone else's pronouns?

Dear Trans Programming Community (of which I know is vast) or Allies,

I had this idea the other day of a website where you can plug in someone's pronouns and their name and practice using their name and pronouns in various sentences sort of like Duo Lingo but to learn and become more comfortable with someone's pronouns. (I am not a program savvy person, though I know I could learn. This website idea is quite complex though so I thought if I could outsource it someone might feel inspired.)

Practicing things by saying them out loud has always been helpful in creating new patterns in the brain. And especially pronouns like "they/them" (which are mine) or neo pronouns (which I can definitely use some practice with) it can take a while for the brain to go through the process of replacing the assumed/past pronoun with the correct pronoun every time before it's able to bypass that pattern and be able to connect the person directly with the correct pronoun. (Same way you learn someone's new name.)

I feel like this would be helpful because allies/accomplices and friends often go through that awkward stage of stuttering/guilt (their own) when learning to adjust their language. This website might be able to mitigate that uneasy phase of learning so that the person whose pronoun is being corrected might not have to go through as much public discomfort. (I recently had a coworker who I adore get very angry at being reminded of my pronoun because it triggered the negative way her language was corrected as child by her parents. She wanted to learn my pronouns without being prompted. This website would be an option.)

I suppose one way it could work is to have a page that is basic grammar having to do with the specific pronoun, then a quiz on the grammar. Then have sentences to practice verbally using pronouns and then, last, have fill in the blank sentences where you're expected to choose/fill in the appropriate pronoun and form of that pronoun included with the person's name. (Things could get tricky with people who don't have pronouns and go by their name alone. But I think there could be an option for that as well with some adjustments.)

I feel like the sooner we can teach those willing to learn how to be more comfortable learning pronouns without having to be put on the spot and feeling shame (that is then projected to us, who are the pronoun havers) the sooner it can become a more intrinsic part of our culture and society. And it takes us out of the equation for being in the firing range of those emotions. And it gives power to allies and accomplices to practice that allyship on their own time. So I hope there's an accomplice or trans person who feels led to take this project on. And I'd eventually like to see it in other languages as well!

here is my eva college au as someone who has only watched 20 episodes

everyone gets a Nerv pension to help them deal with their frankly ridiculous level of trauma. Rei & Shinji both use it for their college fund. Asuka buys a 3 bedroom house & forces them to live with her with the excuse that she doesn't want to have to cook for herself. shinji's friends call her his sugar mommy. they both hate it so much

asuka, having already graduated is the only one with a Real Job but teaches biology at shinji & rei's university part time. shinji used to work in fast food but when asuka asked him how he could stand it & was like "the trick is not caring whether you live or die!" so she made him quit. now he works at the school library

rei is a pretty good coder, but she's going to school to study ancient poetry. shinji is probably going into social work or music. he's mostly trying to broaden his horizons & find something that genuinely interests him so he's taking a lot of random classes

rei develops dissociative episodes where she wanders out into fields & just stares into space for hours. shinji usually finds her by tracking her phone but he doesn't try to bring her back home its more of a "i saw you on the ground so i laid down with you so everyone would think we're chilling" situation

asuka was recently hit with the "wait the only man i've ever felt attraction to was someone unattainable in a position over me" realization & joined a derby team over it. she does a lot of impulse buys to try and find out what makes her happy instead of what makes her look pretty. literally everyone on her derby team is in love with her

kaworu & shinji are both nonbinary & everytime someone genders shinji as a guy kawaru goes "UMMM thats my girlfriend" or vice verse. shinji accepts both. kaworu just wants to remind everyone they're dating. he's unemployed but does furry commissions. once he drew his & shinji's fursonas once & now it's framed in the living room. asuka makes them hide it every time they have someone over

once a week, misato gets a call from at least one of them crying about how they'll never be normal & how hard life is & she has to talk them down from giving themselves a haircut mid breakdown. as thanks, rei bought her a "world's best mom" mug. she's a politician now

shinji makes them all go to furcon every year. asuka's hobby is going to every artist she can find & asking them what fursona they'd give her & then judging their answers.

man, I really don't like subscriptions in video games. used to see "any purchase comes with permanent ad removal" everywhere, but now more and more games have ad removal as a separate purchase, and often as a subscription. and so many other perks as subscriptions too

I am not going to put any subscriptions in my games. If you buy something, it is yours. If I include anything in my game which may be purchased for real money, it is yours to keep. Indefinitely. Anything which is only a temporary bonus will be purchasable with in game currency, not real money.

But he hacked it nervertheless, next thing he knew there was someone recruiting him.

His test was still rigourous but not in the psychical but the endurance tests, hours of sphagetti code, encryted devices, all things they couldnt solved. It was him and the other coders. Some waivered but he didn't. Jokingly he made an alter ego to taunt the others and help him look like he was using the mouse

He finally got the pass and graduated. He hoped that the achieve more

There was a surprise with the emergence of his powers. The Ai that was on his side, It had a more psychical form. It was standing there smirking like it did. There was a faint smile.

For a brief moment, he could let himself see and walk, even though it wasn't real through the eyes of the Ai. It felt fanstastic.

Now as he went though mercy, he was sastified, ableit still closed off

Superhero games often had three "genders" at chargen: make, female, and "very distorted male" (Huge for City of Heroes, Beast for Champions Online, etc).

This is because rigging is HARD. Especially if you want to allow a lot of customization of outfits. You can't just take an outfit that works on a Standard Male Body and distort smoothly until you get to Standard Female Body. So much stuff breaks if you move the sliders too far. You get weirdly crumpled cloth that clips through the skin, floating accessories and emblems, etc. And forget about boots working through a full range of foot sizes. I got some really bad results from early work on an avatar builder for the MMO I'm helping develop (I am Not A Coder, I'm more at the writing and conceptual design end, but we all got to play with the avatar builder and find ways to break it).

I will say that you can approach nonbinary looks from both directions, but getting it so that you can get the SAME bodies either way turned out to be an impossible dream on our parts. A lot of this is that we're not doing everything from scratch (no one can, not really), and there's only so much we can customize. In fact, we're not sure we should even leave all the sliders fully open because the Tyranny of Choice starts to kick in and players might never get out of chargen! (A lot of games pick a handful of "good" outcomes from the results of adjusting several sliders at once, to avoid this. Hence only having Face 1 through Face 10 instead of sliders for cheeks, chin, forehead, skull size, jawbone, head height, head width, head depth, etc.)

i appreciate the attempts a lot of game devs are making with gender neutral character creation, and i appreciate that it's actually a very difficult task to implement that depending on the game's base code. but it's so funny to me when you hear an uproar because some game has "entirely removed the gender option from character creation!!!!!" so you go to check it out and its just like
