Cringetober Day 3: Unnecessarily Complex Outfit, and by outfit I mean wings and hair
Anyway, meet Tori 'Torpedo' Triax! One of my oldest still active ocs!! I made them... summer 2018 iirc? trans'ed her gender a few times , threw her in a bunch of stories, killed her in most of em, turned her into the Entire Ocean in another the usual! They're usually wildly OP but honestly idc cuz she's cool and deserves it
they are also Kitson's (ex-)girlfriend in a lot of the universes and they're silly and care for and understand each other more than anything in the world but would also kill each other in a heartbeat (in half the universe they're in they succeed) and yea :) they stay silly
design wise she has her collar and wrist accessory are from her dad as well as two blue tattoos on her arms and her silly necklace is from kitson and is their initials together (like,, K + T -> pointy looking R... yeaaaah)

im sorry my opinion on genderbends changes every seconddddd i just think there's a difference between liiike for example gay girls drawing male characters fem for fun / yuri reasons, or trans ppl having fun w characters in a not weird way, VS (mostly cis) ppl getting up to well cisgender situations because they're crazy and are just drawing random women or men (8 or V) with 2 identifying characteristics slapped on and they look NOTHING like the actual character (or take into account how they COULD look different and aren't doing that either, like how a hyperfeminine chara who is that way bc she likes feeling pretty would still be a pretty boy. etc.)...
you can sniff out transphobia/weird gender shit/blatant homophobia in some people is all. i think it's also helpful im not exposed to annoying genderbends lately they've been fun or cool for fun reasons and not weird reasons like erm doing gender essentialism 😀
#🐾#also the secondary aspect of how it's just a complicated trans hc for ... a lot of this stuff LOL#like it's not and im not saying everyone and their mother should be doing trans hcs but if you're going hmm#i want to see this character as another gender WELL i have news for you. It can happen. teehee#anyway. i would probably draw fem versions of male charas for my friends or oomfies if i felt so inclined but i tend to prefer just making#boys wear cute outfits and such i don't really care ... average he/she transmasc my apologies#put this bralette on NOW !!!!!#anyway i think ppl should also take into account certain things too#like i'm never going to draw or engage w fem reigen art ever. literally ever. bc of the transmisogyny in the series w him#and i see people way too comfortable being like actually it's Cool now like no ....#also by fem i mean like female not just feminine. w all of this. bc those r different obvioisly ...#also none of this applies to drawing ACTUAL trans hcs like i love trans hcs obviously and they're totally different / cooler in every way#anyway. my next day thoughts are also it's mostly just a fun character design thing it's chilllll it's googling Rainbow dash as a Boy#when you're 12 and going AHHHHH#i also cannot wholeheartedly hate the entir concept of genderbends bc like i've revealed before#crossplaying as the fem version of male characters when i was younger is what made me realise i was even trans#(though that was bc i was like why am i being the fem version -> i should just be the male version -> unlocks gender euphoria)#but i get being sick and tired of them and i am too just the weird annoying ones#though even then u can tell when it's an adult doing it for cishet reasons and a 14 year old girl who wants her fav to be a girl too

Instead of death of the author, how about death of the fan(on)? This is tongue in cheek btw. Take it with a grain of humour. I read a lot of LGBT stories in recent times, especially canon same-gender couples. We already covered the topic, but stuff like top/bottom vs switch, or masc/femme/gnc-categories and people being against what they claim is heteronormative, or just don't like in terms of queer rep.
In the fandom corners I've been some people are really weird about eg M/M dynamics that are top/bottom for example. It's the easiest one to talk about without needing to be into fandom, and there's already been a cover of this topic here so I think people already come decently prepared.
So parts of the louder fandom is very set on trying to make them switches, even though canon is pretty clear about the fact that they are just top/bottom. No problem, we have our preferences. Where a problem happens, is when these people take canon and only pick like random quips, references or other small sections to build the entire argument of "THEY ARE SWITCHES", and then treat it as canon, at the same time disavow actual canon. Basically they're cherry picking canon to create their fanon, then call it canon above the actual canon. So at the same time they ignore the very same canon that does very clearly and openly show them as top/bottom, and much more in your face and even claim people are variations of homophobic/heteronormative for preferring the (canon) dynamic of top/bottom.
Add on weak logic for fanon and ignoring canon, since it's often a difference between "them being switches is canon because the MC asked to switch their dinner plates" vs straight up "MC said he only likes being bummed up the bum."
Now death of the fan(on) could be when you see a fanon being treated as the canon, but the actual source story supports basically none of it. When you basically just ignore the cherry picked fanon, because neither the story, nor the intent within the story supports any of it. You're saying this fanon is actually canon or asking if I've even read the book?* Sorry death of the fanon, but I did not catch any hint of that when actually reading the book. If I gotta know fanon to catch it, then your intent to claim it as canon just really didn't translate into it. Your fan-intent when creating that fanon is just too weak for me to find any strong proof of it when reading, especially when the canon is constantly rubbing in my face over your claimed fanon. Oh your intent with the fanon was to fight heteronormativity? Sorry but your fanon actually reads as you being conditioned towards cishet-normativity because you try to ascribe a heteronormativity to canon queer characters in a very much gay relationship. Sorry but your intent with this fanon is just so weak I gotta call death of the fanon on that one. *actual question I got after talking about a canon part of the book because it went against fanon.
lol anyway, this is just a bit of tongue in cheek, and just to vent a bit of my frustration with certain fanons trying to erase canon, but still use that very same canon to prop up their fanon above the canon.

Hi....Do you mind if I ask you some random thing? I used to love shounen and shoujo manga equally....But ever since I found BL manga 3 years ago, my interest in shoujo decrese a lot, and what I search for is just the dynamic between mc (male) and male lead...I don't want to read mc (female) and male lead or mc (male) and female lead...My interest in het romance also decrese....
What do you think happen to me? Sorry for this weird ask....
I mean, firstly people's tastes change and that's okay! Lots of people prefer to read same sex romance over characters of different genders! It's nothing to really worry about unless you're a dick about it, which you are not being so that's fine!
It could be that you don't like the way some female characters are treated in manga, so having none there makes it more fun to read. It could be that you find you can get more invested in a romance if you're not expected to relate to one of the characters. You may be queer and prefer to read queer romance as a result even if those characters don't match your gender!
Or maybe you just wanted a change of pace with BL. There's even manga such as "I want to be a wall" and "BL Metamorphosis" that directly talk about this phenomenon among (cis) women so, regardless of your personal gender identity, you're definitely not alone in feeling as though you can't relate to Male/Female romance anymore.
It's also true that BL as we know it began within the pages of Shojo Magazines! And indeed, many modern queer series are still published in Shojo Magazines! So you may be enjoying Shojo without even knowing it =)
Good recent examples of this include "My Love Mix-Up" and "Sasaki and Miyano"! But also let's not forget classics like "New York New York" and "Banana Fish". Heck! Why not throw "Rose of Versailles" and "Princess Knight" in there too, because honey there is nothing CisHet about Lady Oscar, and Prince Sapphire lol
And also a good reminder that "Shojo" is not synonymous with "Romance"! Yes, romantic subplots are a common feature, but when you think of Sailor Moon do you think of her as constantly pining after Tuxedo Mask, or do you imagine her doing her cool transformations and beating up whatever weird monsters have been sent her way that week?
Some good Non-Romance Orientated Shojo I would recommend that I've been reading lately are:
- Dawn of the Arcana
- The King's Beast
- Kageki Shojo!!
- Prince Freya
- Rose of Versailles
- The Demon Prince of Momochi House
(Oh and "Shojo Horror" is a whole thing too, Junji Ito got his start in Shojo Magazines. 'Starfruit Books' are a digital publisher who publish a lot of English and Spanish Language Shojo Horror so worth looking them up too if you like horror, which I don't, but respect those who do lol)
But if you're maybe looking for some Non-Heteronormative M/F romances to give them another shot I can recommend:
- A Sign of Affection (If you liked "I hear the Sun Spot" I think you'll like this)
- Ladies On Top (18+)
- Snow White With The Red Hair
- The Invisible Man And His Soon To Be Wife
And whilst these ones are still rather heteronormative, they do contain female leads who do way more than just sit around and hope that senpai notices them:
- Something's Wrong With Us (18+)
- Sweat and Soap (18+)
- Knight of The Ice
- My Happy Marriage
- Your Name
And whilst my goal this year is to try and read more Girl Love stories, (or just F/F romance in general I should say) and therefore I don't have AS MANY to recommend I HAVE been reading "Runaway With Me Girl", "Catch These Hands" and "Kase-san and Yamada"
I hope that helps! At the end of the day, whilst I always encourage people to try to read out of their comfort zone, it's your free time and your money! You should be allowed to spend it however you want, so long as you're not hurting anyone.
(I do think that anyone attempting to be a professional reviewer should absolutely try and read more books from more demographics but that's you trying to make money off of your hobby which is absolutely not the same as a rando who just wants to read about boys kissing on their time off from work/school)

Hi JD! Im curious how other queer DMs handle this so I thought I'd ask you.
How do you determine sexuality and queerness for your NPCs?
I used to do it in a go with the flow method, which still works for unplanned NPCs. But in my game we have a (consensual and very funny) high charisma lesbian barbarian bard who loves to flirt with NPCs. I kinda realized that for realism and some strategic cockblocking on my part I needed to work out my NPCs sexualities out beforehand, and I started doing it with everybody.
I found it helps me keep in mind other kinds of queerness besides my own, but I also recognize it is ridiculous and no one should do it how I do lmao.
Give me details on how you make your little guys (gender neutral) queer pls.
ooh i looove this question!
i don't know how helpful my approach will be for you, mainly because i don't have a PC in my game who flirts with everybody. if i did, i might need to think about this a bit differently. but i have PCs that pick one NPC and decide "im gonna marry you one day" and then they DO lmao, so it's easier in a sense.
also! disclaimer that, you know, the characters we create and roleplay are very much reflections of ourselves, and in my case, that means they are all being filtered through an aspec lens. i often DON'T think about an NPC's sexuality when i'm creating them because sometimes i forget that sexuality is something i should think about, lmao. this does depend, though, and there have been cases where i knew an NPC's sexuality from the jump.
but yeah, every NPC i make is queer. that's just the truth about the world i'm running. gender and sexuality have way more nuance and understanding in the fantasy world i am creating with my queer friends, on every level of that creation. so even if i don't know what exact variety or label an NPC identifies with, none of them are what we would consider cishet in our real world. like, in my game, most people aren't assigned a gender at birth, or if they are, it's understood to be flexible by most people. polyamory is a norm that is accepted. etc etc.
all of that being said! because of all of these things, i tend to have an understanding of my NPCs' queerness that is very fluid and malleable. very few things wrt their queerness are set in stone or defined in strict terms. also, i can't really think of a situation (in the case of my game and my players) where a PC would express romantic interest in an NPC and i would shut that down over meta expectations i had about that NPC's sexuality. like, that just wouldn't occur to me. in the cases where my PCs have shown interest in NPCs, the NPCs have reciprocated. because that's fun and it's what my players want to do. again, this has only happened a couple of times in my game, so it's easy for me to adapt that way.
obviously, this is where our games probably differ, since you have a flirty PC. if i had a PC who flirted with everyone, i would probably talk to the player about expectations. is that just part of the PC's personality that is fun for the player to engage with, or does the player want/expect reciprocation when it's applicable? i am so bad IRL at combing through the intricacies of attraction and sexuality lol that i would probably need my player to spell it out for me if they were ACTUALLY pursuing an NPC romantically, or just flirting because it's fun. and either way, cool, the NPCs in my queer-positive, nuanced and fluid world would probably be open to it. if a PC was trying to form a romantic connection / relationship with an NPC, cool, whatever that NPC's sexuality is just. includes that PC now lol. and if it's just for-fun flirtiness, cool, NPCs in this world are mostly gonna be open to for-fun flirtiness without expectation that it's going somewhere. (unless they just hate being flirted with, which has to do with personality more than sexuality, you know?)
i hope this makes sense and is in any way helpful to you!

even if the fanfic you say was written by lily was, that doesn't make her a predator. i wrote some horrible pairings between adults and minors when i was big into my artemis fowl phase and i've drawn characters in ways i shouldn't have before. lily having made mistakes in the past doesn't make her a bad person. ee all fuck up sometimes. it's not the important thing. the important thing is that she tries to keep attention off that kind of thing and limits sexual stuff to stuff we can all click off of. if i didn't want to see her stream or watch her videos or whatever, i could and can just hit the back button. yeah, i guess flashing is kinda cringe, but cishet dudes do it all the time and no one calls them predators. it's just a thing some people do. It's not great but it's not anywhere near as graphic as the stuff guys at my school do, joking about raping girls and who they wouldn't fuck even if they were too drunk to see straight etc.
it's maybe five seconds of boobs. that's NOTHING. and it's transphobic that people slam her for this but if guys at my school joke about wanting to facefuck me it's "boys will be boys lol". why should a trans woman get so much more anger for a sexual joke so much more minor? what has she done wrong that the cishet guys who i CANNOT escape with a simple click haven't? i've never seen her flash but if i did it's one click away from being out of my life. the old dude who stares at my boobs in the library is way worse than lily. if she wasn't trans no one would give a damn.
and for your information, she has messaged me after i sent her fanart - and we talked briefly about fanart and how to navigate the tags on a fanart website i use that she's unfamiliar with. that's it. there was nothing sexual, nothing inappropriate, no red flags. just a pretty normal conversation and then she moved on. she's not evil or predatory or whatever. she's just some woman on the internet. all she's guilty of is maybe having written some bad fics and showing a few inches of skin. i've been raped. i know what abuse is. "hey how do you exclude tags on this site anyway? i keep looking for ___ character and only getting art of them with ___" is not abuse.
...Oh my. Yall I'm gonna need some help here.
There are screenshots of Lily's old Tumblr where the first three were linked, Lily talked about it openly, she even used to have a NFSW blog dedicated to it despite the fact that its most notable plot point involved grooming and molesting children and a young teenager. There are also video clips of Lily herself admitting to writing it. She was writing the sequels long into her 20s, which is well beyond the age an adult should be writing about those ages.
The people at your school are just as disgusting and the fact that they aren't getting reprimanded immediately is a sad failure of the adults around you. The adults in your life should be taking that just as seriously as we're taking Lily's behavior. It is just as predatory and sick, and I'm truly sorry the adults in your life are failing at this. I grew up in a similar situation myself, and it was a huge reason I ended up getting involved with adults I shouldn't have been involved with. Much like you, it had become normalized in my head, and I justified the adults who were taking advantage of me. It didn't make it right. They were predators who knew what they were doing, and wanted to manipulate and use me.
Lily uses a lot of maliciously manipulative tactics to get her audience, notably people your age, to sympathize with her. It's a form of emotional manipulation. None of us are transohobic in any capacity, and at least three of the people who are or have called her out for this are trans themselves. Accusing us of transphobia is one of the many lies she tells her audience so she can pretend to be a victim, and manipulate her audience into immediately disregarding us. If she can get her audience to believe we're terrible bigots by playing into their emotions, they're less likely to want to look at the hard evidence and corroborating experiences many of us have had with her.
Anon, I can promise you Lily has been lying to you to keep you around for her own selfish purposes. None of us are right-leaning in any capacity. Many of us are trans or otherwise not cisgender. Many of us aren't straight. Many Natives have spoken out against her. Many black people have spoken out against her. Kinksters have spoken out against her. Just about every group she performatively fights for has called her out for horrendous misinformation, racial fetishization, promoting extreme violence, pathological lying, smear campaigning, sockpuppeting (that she still does to this day by sending herself fake anon asks on a regular basis), zoophilia, and pedophilia. The last two have more than enough hard evidence out of her own keyboard to back up.
I'm truly sorry for what you're going through IRL. What those boys around you are saying is still predatory, still disgusting, and should absolutely be addressed by the adults around you. The fact rhat they aren't doesn't mean what those boys are doing is normal or okay. And it certainly doesn't mean what Lily is doing is normal or okay. People like Lily prey on people in your situation, who unfortunately haven't been shown that this behavior is abusive and horrible. This is what she relies on, and why she refuses to set up a revenue stream on a more adult-oriented website. There are many popular sites where she could be openly sexual with other adults and get paid well for it, but she refuses to go to those sites. It's because she gets off on the audience she has now, which consists of a lot of minors in situations like yours. Her and I are the same age, and I can tell you what she is doing is not something someone our age should EVER be doing. Period. It is predatory, she knows full well it is predatory, yet she's doing it anyway and lying to people so she doesn't get caught.
Please be safe, anon. I know it gets heavy as all hell dealing with what you're dealing with. There are people out here that genuinely do want you safe and I hope you get out of your current environment soon.

ppl have gotten angry at me for like. identity headcanons for years now. like i mean back in the 'why would you hc this character as trans, the author Clearly didn't intend that,' years. back in the 'no, there's Absolutely No Gays Here,' discourse, was regular in ANY fandom.
nowadays i would say ""nobody cares"" abt that sort of stuff. But not. always. however since ive been called slurs and vagued about since i was twelve - i've grown a second skin to this sort of thing
it is probably worth noting: despite this being hilariously inaccurate in a number of ways, my gf and i would be clocked as a cishet couple IRL. and i think this is incredibly funny and do nothing to discourage it personally. i dont gotta explain shit lol. nor am i gonna 'defend' why i think the way i think bc 'well actually im [x] sexuality' bc that is none of your business

idk if ur still doing that ask game thing but kyle and/or tolkien? :3
Kyle
Sexuality headcanon- Pansexual
Otp- Style
Brotp- Also Style but if it can't be that then K2 lol
Notp- Sort of Kyman in that I see it in a toxic/abusive capacity but it's pm always viscerally off-putting to me even in the capacity I 'ship' it. Even when I write it I have a pretty hard time. Other than that I guess Kyle/Wendy? I really can't see him having an interest in Wendy (or vice versa) both because of Stan AND because I see them as similar specifically in the ways that either encourage a brother-sister relationship or they'd annoy each other lol
first headcanon that pops into my head- Has to have a fan going at night because Stan is both a sleep-cuddler and a furnace and Kyle would overheat without it.
favorite line from this character- Lol the whole scene where he and Stan are fucking killing the dolls their playing with. No specific line but Kyle's wailing to the heavens is great.
one way in which I relate to this character- Uhh... growing out of finding 'mean' jokes funny. Most of the ways I relate more to Stan than Kyle but I am more sensitive to when I see people as being 'mean' to each other even when joking (and for the most part have a pretty negative reaction to people jokingly being mean to me even if I know it's a gag and put up with it). The 'you fucking asshole' kind of joke is something VERY rare from me.
thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character- Nothing really, I only have a couple secondhand embarrassment moments from SP and they're all Stan-related.
cinnamon roll or problematic fave? Cinnamon roll

Tolkien
Sexuality headcanon- Straight. Even if I've made comments shipping him with Stan or Kyle on this blog I ACTUALLY think Tolkien's cishet lol.
Otp- Tolkendy
Brotp- Craig and Those Guys. Stolkien IS growing on me (as is Tolkyle) but I lean more towards the original setups.
Notp- Uhh....None that I can think of. Maybe Tolkien/Cartman, though I haven't even SEEN that so idk if it's a thing anywhere. PM any Cartman ship with characters he's made racist/oppressive comments I have a very, very difficult time reading even if they follow the vein of the show and don't become super fluffy.
first headcanon that pops into my head-He and Wendy end up reconnecting to work on some criminal issue in the future and have a second try in a relationship when they're solidly adults.
favorite line from this character- Five midgets spanking a man covered in Thousand Island dressing. Is that making love?
one way in which I relate to this character- Being smart enough to say nope, I'm out of this, and not get involved with a lot of the drama in my school as a kid.
thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character- Nothing. Even the stuff I haven't liked in regards to the character haven't given me secondhand embarrassment, more just frustration with Trey.

I think my attraction to Roy is interesting because it's an outlier. He's not my classic type at all.
Yeah there's a crossover but my taste (in men) is far more like Jack, Ken or Howard. They're well-dressed and good looking (like Roy), but they're emotionally intelligent, quietly confident/self-assured, and passionate people. They care about themselves and others, while sporting that "classic hollywood" look. They're also featured with blue colour-coding. At first glance they don't stand out other than the fact they're pretty. Which in the case of those three their attractiveness is stated in canon. Weirdly their personalities are portrayed as turn-offs though. At least according to other cishet men in their sources.
Howard cus he comes off as a prick due to being wealthy. Ken cus he's too "soft" (aka feminine). Jack cus he hates abuses of authority and speaks up freely.
Then we have Roy. Who fucking sucks. His entire personality stinks. He's not nice, he's cares about nothing (except money), and he completely lacks confidence or self-assurance. The total opposite of everything I like. Aside from the "classic hollywood" look of course. But that too is what everything else is: a defence mechanism.
Roy is very much a character who doesn't like himself. Which is why he acts the way he does. He thinks he's the worst motherfucker ever, so he acts like it. Fulfils the expectations. At least after the "Im so cool, successful and sexy" projection doesn't stick or dissolves under any scrutiny. Which always deeply upsets him btw. Once someone calls him like it is, he gets extremely nasty. 90% of the times he's at his worst is when he's been hit somewhere he's insecure about.
Which is his money, status, appearance, funniness or personality. Basically anything. None of this an excuse for his behaviour, of course. (As a sidebar, I do want to say that I don't condone an ounce of his beliefs or actions. He's actually pretty much my polar opposite in terms of those). However, I would argue that if he did have confidence in himself, he would be my type. Which is exactly why "My Roy" is completely different from canon. I fixed him okay.
The reason I think this is because he's kind of like, if the traits in the "decent guys" kinda went wrong. In order for Roy to be as horrible as he is, he needs emotional intelligence. How else can he read people so well? Like how he's literally the only person who recognises that Cole isn't happy in his personal life. And he kinda chases Cole to be honest about it. For the wrong reasons, sure. But Roy wasn't left much choice after how icy Cole treats him (for good reason!). A lot of their interactions honestly come off as missed opportunity to me. They could've helped each other grow if they tried lol.
Anyway - Roy is also passionate. Yeah he pretends its about money, but I don't really buy that. I'm more talking about the things he actually puts energy into... which is people. There's a reason he name drops tons of people we don't even meet. How he's able to introduce people thoughtfully (such as Johnny Stompando, Cole and Dr Fontaine), using their personalities as well as what they do. And why he pulls in favours to get Cole as his partner. I genuinely think he perceives Cole as a kindred spirit and then is disappointed. He was right though. Cola was just too proud to admit it.
Roy also gets vividly upset when Candy gets stabbed because he thinks thats a horrible way to die. (I have further thoughts on this tidbit as well 🤔, but thats for another time). He immediately covers up this genuine horror with pretending to be upset about his money. Nice slip of the mask babe. One of many.
The only thing he's missing is the confidence to act on these passions/people skills in a way that isn't self-destructive. I don't think he was ever loved. Either by family or the person its implied he fell in love with. The thing he used to comfort himself with was the "American Dream", and even though he technically achieved that (minus the wife), he's not happy. Which is why he's such a foul cynic. His entire persona he created perpetuates his loneliness too. The man is stuck in a self-fulfilling prophecy. And it's sad.
So Roy is the outlier because he's like if my type never self-reflected or had therapy. And that is what compels me. Not what is, but what could be. Obviously "i could fix him" is not a real thing I'd ever try or recommend, but this man is pixels. My precious pixels...
(also the whole queer coding that can imply internalised homophobia alongside all his other problems)

No hate at all but please tell me what's up with your deep hatred for Jenna. What did she say about Miller's girl that was so bad??
"Deep hatred"? I wouldn't say it's deep hatred. I've always said it was/is a love/hate. I can't truly hate something/someone who brought me back into writing. (So if she out there readin' (LOL), I don't hate you, Mama...you just annoy the crap out of me sometimes.)
Regarding Miller's Girl, that post I clipped of her talking about it annoys me, since she says she'd never read any character like Cairo before. You know, Cairo being a brilliant, ahead-of-everyone-around-her teen writer with a bigger vocabulary than her peers who lives in a big haunted mansion and who hates crowds.
Nah, she never read any character like that before.
Tumblr media
I get it, she isn't about to compare the two roles because press promo for MG could never. But some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth is vapid as all Hell, like talking as if college/education prospects are a million miles behind her ("I really wanted to go, I tried for a minute!" both Elle and Jenna acting like Jenna's 50 years old and the capability to go to college just eludes her...she was 20 when she gave that interview 💀). I have very low level of respect for those who don't think they can go get an education while they're living the celebrity life; if Emma Watson could do it, so can she, if she really wants to. But she doesn't, so 🤷🏽‍♂️
The bar goes even lower when I read how strongly of a Jesus Beater she is from her book. The indoctrination is thick with this one, but that's how it typically is with the religious Mexicans (I know, because I have them in my family) and you have to be sharp to escape the cultural programming. My 81yo father broke away 70 years ago after discovering science, and after thinking for himself (and after witnessing the priests going after the Pretty Choir Boys in his church). I could talk a long time about this aspect, but it's a touchy subject for me and one that involves lots of fucking [religious] trauma, none of which has anything to do with my parents/family (just girls who were so frighteningly indoctrinated that common sense was non-existent in their brains, and it upended my life for the worse each time). However, she was 18 and still relatively insulated when she published that book. So maybe time will tell. Doubtful, given how ingrained it is w/her fam, but one never knows, esp. in Hollyweird. Something in her changed though, I've noticed, from 18 to now. 😕 Now that I've kind of sort of 'caught up' some on her as an actress, because prior to me hearing of her casting for Wednesday, I didn't know who she was. I still didn't know after I watched the show in January '23 (I was convinced to, by the friend I have who is now missing). And when I found out she was that chick from the Babysitter 2, I was all, "No way, I thought she was the worst!" I kept hoping her character would get dispatched 💀🤣. I had to see if I was missing something, since her fanbase is a really weird soup of young lesbians and old cishet guys sharing half-naked AI pics of her using her 15-year-old face on Facebook. It fascinates me that those are her biggest, drooliest fans. I like "weird" shit, and this is def weird shit to me.)
I will give her this: She did admit that her accent work is bad. But when Elle Fanning said it wouldn't be if she had a dialogue coach, she didn't have much of a response. I have much more respect for the Fannings. Hell, I just watched Elle in Benjamin Button again (I love that movie). That...was a child star. He accent was on point, she was adorable in it as Young Daisy 🥰🤩. But anyway.
No deep hatred. Deep annoyance. Disney has been annoying me since before its broad integration into regular households, so it makes sense. I don't care for Disney, celebrity, or religious culture, all things she's deeply steeped in, and yes, it's very irritating to have a muse that's the complete opposite of what you stand for.
But inspiration does not have a type. She's a cunning shapeshifter, and she can still sit on your shoulder some moreso than others, ha and whisper sweet nothings in your ear until you've got no choice but to write them down. I suppose I was conditioned in a way to be able to keep separate the actor from the role, so if you ask me, "Hey, are you attracted to her?" the answer would be, "No, I'm attracted to her characters." Except for that stupid bitch in X. God what a dumbass. And not in a mere sexual sense, but in more of a self-identification, since I was always (and still am, apparently) the outcast.
I've also always been a huge fan of Ricci's Wednesday, so of course I'd be interested in this iteration. I might have been interested to see any young actress try to tackle Wednesday. We just happened to get her. I'm too curious/too invested in this shit now that I want to see what she's going to do in S2.
And why do I feel like that movie with Percy is also going to be, like Miller's Girl, a flop? If she really wants to stretch her acting, she needs a period piece of some sort. Get her out of her human form and into something completely alien to her, force her to act. Even if it meant a 'soft'/unserious 'period piece' like say...Pirates.
Does that make sense? If not, remember what day it is, kids...Happy 4/20🌿

16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc.)
this'll quickly get into petty territory ok let's see. well so i think in general the cookie cutter fandom trope tendencies suck absolute ass and take all the fun out of actually playing with character dynamics and like. analyzing them idk!!! like it's BORING not everyone fits into. golden retriever/black cat dumb/smart fucking. idk you get it. you're taking away what's compelling and unique abt individual people and stories and writing. i think people did that to robin and nancy a bit and it made me want to scream and turned me away from the fandom quicker cause they were the last part of s4 i found myself caring abt. and let me just say this. it's like people are so goddamn annoying in general about gay ships and i wont pretend like ppl are just cool and great about gay male ships but like. at least SO many people get into them that you're bound to get some actually interesting content. it's fucking bleak out here for the lesbians when people just immediately try to slot them into top/bottom etc dynamics. and don't engage with them as separate characters at all. defining women by their relationships except theyre both women(ish) so you're just making them uninteresting overall. sorry ik it's not that serious esp when the majority of the fans of lesbian ships are queer girls. anyway then they dont even engage with het relationships or the people that do are ppl are like. genuinely cishet and i'd not... interact w them on here idk lol. also i ended up getting pissy about bi steve bc ppl were so anti nancy being anything but hyperheterosexual when to ME, formerly dykenance, she had the markings of a lesbian. she had a very clearly sorta close tense jealous etc friendship and she gets NONE of the love. idc actually abt bi steve like it's fine wider fandom just pissed me off. we all know this.
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to
ummm i dont think i've been super anti anything personally let me think. ummmm. idk why i can only think of st this is absurd i dont even engage with that much anymore. like i guess jonathan and steve i used to not care about but now im like yeah sure kings. why not. oh also faberry lol. cause rachel used to annoy me too much but now im like well in her own committed dream annoying teen girl way she was kinda hilarious... and i think they were in weird lesbian love and that was lost along the way but in my heart they rekindled after high school maybe. at some point. like quinn came to one of her big shows... idc
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
i think b*lers need to just have fun with their ship and not care about canon that much. like yes yeah gay rep etc whatever but u dont even seem like you're having fun u just want to be right. anyway. GENERALLY it's fucking hilarious to me when people bring up idk media literacy and -coding and etc but it's very evident that they have not ever ever taken a film class in their life or. engaged with media analysis outside of fandom contexts. babes dont try to just use words to sound smart. also again generally stop just advertising or criticizing a show based on Gay Representation. also don't complain about female characters not being well written when u dont engage with them regardless over any possible man that you can. sorry just complaining abt the same shit over and over. ME hi im the problem it's me. jk im not wrong
let me be a haterrrr <3

val is he/she/they intersex nonbinary bi
six is he/him cis something….. definitely not straight

bonus 2: all of kilian and co is cishet so they’re getting excluded all month (sloan desperately wants pascal to be he/they bi)
- mod lucia
i asked this question so im ignoring what it’s saying and listing their business
blondie is cis gay
daisy is cis bi and i don’t like him
spirit is a dog
for a bonus blondies jane is a lesbian :)
actually on a side note blondie would wear one of these for pride
Tumblr media
- mod sloan
Butting in like i always do since it's my male right in this pride month with mine. Most of my jeffs are trans and bi so! Specifics
- Dally is something and biromantic. He doesn't like to think about his gender even though in the server i joke about it, he goes by he/him but if you use she/her he's not gonna correct you but also going to stare at himself in the bathroom mirror almost ripping off the sink.
- Grease is transmasc and bisexual, as a bonus he's also canonically a dad!
- RRH is the same as Grease, transmasc and bisexual and also canonically a father. Which makes it that i have two transmasc deadbeat dad jeffs. Don't know what to do with this realization honestly (ask me about it)
- JD is pansexual and gnc! He doesn't care about gender at all and doesn't worry about how he's presenting.
- Tulpa and the system are unlabeled! They don't really worry about how they present or what they are attracted to. And they're young, so they don't really care about it. Any pronouns work for Tulpy
-Raden is also gnc and aroace! He's the sexiest mfer on this earth
-mod noah
Nathan is GAY gay as hell he has at least four rainbows on him at all time in the form of patches or pins. He's cis and he/him but you can barbie doll him into a pretty pink dress if you want
Pirate is bi and ace but he's like, twelve and hasn't figured that out yet. In his 20s he has a gender crisis but don't worry about it he's totally fine and normal
AJ is gay but has been with women in the past. He's cis but really gnc. He owns skirts and heels, is pretty good with makeup and has probably done drag in the past. His gender doesn't bother him he just does what he feels like
Darcie is trans and gay. He grew up in rural catholic Ireland in the 70s then got eeby deeby'd into the shining hotel so he only recently learned what the word transgender means. He's also homophobic sometimes but it's okay because it's funny
Tino is pansexual, aromantic and intersex. Despite his whole love theme and the amount of relationships he's had he really does not care about the whole thing, it's just a tool to him. Tino will respond to any pronouns but if you ask him what ones he prefers he'll tell you to figure it out on your own
Eddy is aro/ace and cisgender. He doesn't really understand the concept of romantic love and doesn't feel sexual attraction. He's happy with just having really close friends!! :)
BONUS ROUND: Darcie and Louise have four other siblings. One of them, Sean, is bi :)
BONUS BONUS ROUND: Pirate's future au roommate Steve is bi too but he's a COWARD and refuses to leave the closet. I want to hurt him.
-Mod CC
. Squishy is gnc! Rn he doesnt really understand romantic attraction but in his adult life he comes out as gay! Only romantic bc he's stuck with a 15 yo mindset forever
. Kipri is nonbinary and wlw!! Also her father Marcel is pansexual and kisses AJ on the mouth
. Frenchie is queer but it doesn't really matter what exactly how because he bites >:(
. Mike is nonbinary pansexual!
About CC's bonus: i shipped steve and pirate before it was canon 😎
-Mod Kim 🧢 Hi! Mod ez finishing out this round with his characters sexualities! At the very last minute too lol - Andy is GAY he is PAINFULLY gay and he is very repressed about it. If I brought him to a pride parade he would start crying. - His brother Drew is bisexual and in a polyamorous relationship.  - Cas is bi! He doesn’t figure this out for a while though because he’s dumb as hell and forgot that was an option. he’s like i can’t be gay? I like girls? duh? and everyone is like cas i swear to fucking god Shockingly, those are my main lgbt jeffs, with most of my others being straight or unlabeled. Bonus content, RT is straight but would love pride month because he wants to ally as hard as possible.

This is kind of a random question but...
Do you know why people hate Rick Riordan?
I just have no information, and I’ve seen a lot of stuff lately talking about how he’s problematic.
hi!! yes, I've seen things about this as well. I can list the reasons I've seen. I don't agree with all the points made, but its just what I've seen and I think it may answer your question. I also recommend going through the tag #rr crit, as it will give you a lot more and detailed information regarding him (beware: there are quite a few buzzwords. I recommend taking the facts and forming your own conclusions). I also think it's important to note that many people don't hate him, but they acknowledge that since he's a cishet white man there's things he didn't handle well and he needs to listen to critisicm.
Completely mishandled Piper's native American heritage. From the feather in her hair, to her dad being from a reservation that doesn't exist in Oklahoma, to having kaleidoscope eyes (some say that it suggests brown eyes aren't beautiful enough for aphrodite, more on this in the next bullet), to being a kleptomaniac, her character is, ignorantly or purposefully, chock full of stereotypes. having a cornucopia being her weapon. when Rick was told that this isn't good he became defensive and didn't listen to any critisicm
not giving female characters chances to be young, or not have a boyfriend or be unconventionally attractive. if they do get to not have a boyfriend, they're thrown into the Hunters of Artemis. their eyes are anything but brown (I do disagree with the eye thing but it's important to note), suggesting that having brown eyes should be considered less than. Sadie got a 1000 year old boyfriend when she was 14. 13 year old Hazel had a 16 year old boyfriend-- that could be a seventh grader and a junior or a freshman and sophomore depending on how you look at it (and I LOVE frazel, don't get me wrong. the age gap is just,,). in fact, the only female non-hunter without a significant other I can name is Meg, and she's 12.
Sadie Kane and the fanart he boosts of her. he frequently shows her looking completely white, despite saying she "stood out in class for being mixed." It honestly wouldn't surprise me if a white girl were cast to play her in the Netflix movies.
treatment of characters with invisible disabilities. this can range from the coment of "You anemic loser" targeted at Octavian (as someone with an iron deficiency, I don't see anything wrong with it, but cmon. kids can see that, rick. you can't control anemia) to Clovis' chronic fatigue being treated as a joke. invisible disabilities are hard and just as painful as physical ones. it doesn't help if you treat them like that.
too much misogyny to list all of it, but we can start with young girls being expected to be, and acting, more mature than they are; the strong female characters portraying the "I'm not like other girls" trope; the entire way Hera was treated.
The way Nico's outing was handled (this is one I especially disagree with, and this post said it best, thanks ghost). A violent outing by the God of love taking place before Nico was ready, according to some, was not what younger gay people needed to see. he should have had a loving environment and, at the very least, it should have been from his own point of view and not Jason's.
anti-acne and fat phobia: Apollo having a deep hatred towards his acne and Frank's glow up including severe weight loss (not being a cuddly teddybear anymore, getting taller) isn't the best thing for kids who have acne or are fat to see.
Samirah al-Abbas: "reversing the stereotype (Rick's words)" of an arranged marriage by having her be in love with a distant cousin is... not reversing the stereotype at all actually. it just falls into it. Having her take off her hijab around floor 19 because they feel like family is also not great, because, to my understanding as a non-hijabi and non-muslim, that is not how being hijabi works. similar to the piper situation, when Rick was told that this isn't good he became defensive and didn't listen to any critisicm
ANTISEMITISM, ANTISEMETISM, ANTISEMITISM. this is one of the ones I agree with the most. Having Hades' children be Nazis, having a plot point revolve around one of the most traumatic events in world history, ignoring the fact of generational trauma and ignoring the fact that It Didn't Matter That It Took Place In World War Three, it could have not had any correlation to the death of over six million Jewish people. it legitimizes evilsurrounding Hades and death, and -- well, this one makes me so mad, I can't explain all of it so here is a post explaining more in depth
Slavery issues: similar to the holocaust, Rick Riordan made one of the most terrible issues in American History into a fight between demigods. this lowers the legitimacy of the issue, makes it seem fictional, makes Camp Jupiter seem terrible and awful, except it doesn't. because camp Jupiter isn't terrible. but the confederacy was. if children, especially white children, learn about the confederacy through camp Jupiter, it makes it seem way less bad than it was.
again, I don't agree with all of this, it's just reasoning as to why. in my eyes, Rick Riordan is a man who has grown in his telling of his stories. he started with a canonical all white, all straight, all cis cast. he has now a series featuring a latino genderfluid queer person. This Post said it better than I ever could.
I know that it's impact over intent in so many situations. and this isn't to say I disagree with all, or even most of his critisim. I just think that he has good intent, and I hate him for absolutely none of it.
I am gay, I am Latino, and I am trans. that is all I can speak on, and I think his rep for that was great. I hope this answered your question, dear anon. again, I encourage you to do your own research and form your own opinions. I only touched on a few issues that Rick has had and there's a lot more to be talked about. I would say to keep in mind his intent and his growth. thank you for the ask, thank you for directing it to me that made me feel happy lol. ily I hope you have a good day
if anyone else has anything to add, by all means please do!!
