The Brute is a common from Legends and OH BOY DO WE GOT A WEIRDO TODAY FOLKS

So, first of all, the name. Can we talk about the name? Cause I have been DYING TO TALK ABOUT THE NAME. Enchantments are rarely nouns, and if they are they are like, I dunno the word for this, descriptive nouns. Like Vigilance. Vigilance is a THING but only a metaphorical thing that has to be applied to something real. But The Brute is The Brute. You can turn your guy into The Brute by enchanting them with The Brute.

Also the red regeneration: I know this existed in Alpha, but maaaan, not too many cards took that as precedent, so this guy just gets left lookin real weird. And the flavour text? That's a real guy who said that, isn't it? Like a real guy from this world. Goddamn. I know I've shown you guys a lot of weird old cards, but what a fucking weird old card.

my favorite MTG "combos" are the ones that require a level 3 judge with a college-level understanding of probability to determine if they end the game or not. the poster child for this used to be the classic "infinite mana + Filigree Sages + Wirefly Hive + opponent controls a Leonin Elder" thought experiment, but the D&D set supplanted it with the combo of Delina, Wild Mage + Pixie Guide being right there in draft. like, people did this on accident, which is INFINITELY funnier

the "combo" is that if you target the Pixie with Delina's attack trigger, you have a roughly 17% chance of creating so many copies of Pixie that it's almost (but not quite!) impossible to get anything other than the 15-20 range on Delina's ability. you would think this is an infinite loop that ends in a draw, but because you can technically break out of the loop at any time (with vanishingly low and rapidly shrinking odds), you can't shortcut it and have to sit there in nondeterministically quasi-infinite D20-rolling purgatory until the sun explodes or a judge issues you a game loss for slow play, whichever comes first.

or at least that's what would have happened without the day 0 errata, lol

anyways, i was considering building a Zedruu EDH deck that includes Delina + Pixie + R&D's Secret Lair + Wirefly Hive et. al. with the goal of "winning" by forcing the table to argue over college-level probability and/or obscure rules interactions. what other "combos" can i run? Opalescene + Humility is an obvious autoinclude, but what about funnier stuff, like targeting Platinum Angel with Illicit Auction? much to consider...

This is just an /opinion/ and I'm just tryna find ppl that agree with me.

I do not think having kids could quote on quote "fix" Shen Jiu, biological or otherwise. 1) A kid should not bear the responsibility to be that emotionally invested in the shit mental health of their caregiver. Don't make any child go through that. And 2) Nothing about any child could make Shen Jiu be a decent caregiver out of his own volition (sure, he was nice to NYY and probably did care for her, but that's about how far it went ejrrjf tho I'll gladly eat up AUs where he does treat her like a daughter when he knows how to care for a kid properly).

Good luck trying to make Shen Jiu get his shit together unless you're actually changing things about his past. The easiest "fix" imo is to give Shen Jiu an ADULT, heavy emphasis on this, an ADULT that could invest in his mental/emotional wellbeing when Shen Jiu is still a kid or a teen. How else do you expect Shen Jiu to be a responsible adult around kids when he's never had a responsible adult to care for him at all?

There's not a single authority figure in Shen Jiu's life that's ever done him good, not QJL, not WY, and SJ's own shizun, the prev. QJPL is up for debate but I have reasons to believe why they ain't shit too. And like hear me out, YQY doesn't count either coz SJ *thinks* YQY is another caregiver that gave up on him and didn't take responsibility for him. And obviously that's not true, but that's just how it is from his perspective sadly.

I still really like Shen Jiu's dark backstory, coz there's no Shen Jiu without it, buuuuuuuut if you really want a version of him that doesn't take that bullshit out on his disciples, do give him an ADULT, coz never a kid, give him and adult first, before you give him any kids, so he can LEARN HOW TO BE AN ADULT.

i know i have a tendency to romanticize the past, but i also know, that if I could go back, I wouldn't last (again)

I think we overcompensate a lot.

We're so worried that we're somehow accidentally faking / so frequently in denial, that we try to make ourselves feel more valid by "forcing" a lot of things that, in our weird roundabout logic, seem more "system-y" when not only does that make us feel even worse about system stuff, but it also just makes us feel bad about ourselves in general.

We've engraved this bad habit of forcing accents or mannerisms (particularly in us introjects) to make us feel better- more like a system- when all it does is backfire.

I think this vicious cycle manifested when we started to try and unmask our multiplicity, an entirely out-of-hand overcorrection that only really serves to hurt us.

It's really frustrating, and kind of sad... especially because we're so used to this "mask of unmasking" that we don't know how to just "be ourselves."

We realize this same unhealthy behavior over and over again, but it's just so insanely hard to shake that even after promising to ourselves countless times that we'll just relax, let this weird gaurd down and exist as us; we always come back to the "safety" of our broken mask.

We're so tired of it, but we don't know how to make it stop.
