Hello, everyone!
My first long post in a while. This year, I've decided to start this series, Audio Fiction I Love, where I write about the audio fiction I keep on coming back to. Not necessarily reviews, per se, because I don't plan on being critical, but recommendations.
I'm kicking off Audio Fiction I Love with the Null/Void podcast by Cole Burkhardt. The show description:
Null /Void is a science fiction audio drama about a young woman, Piper Lee, whose life is saved by a mysterious voice named Adelaide. After uncovering a malicious plot, Piper and her friends must defend their small town from a family of ruthless billionaires who wish to exploit and destroy it. Piper must fight to save her home and discover the true identity of Adelaide.
Check it out here.

I would add Life with LEO(h) and Adventures in New America. LwL is written by and stars Octavia Bray, who is black. AiNA is about queer people of color in the.... near? future.
I'll add more if I think of them, but I'm also adding several of these to my playlist.
It's Black History Month
(Over here in the US of A) So here are some podcasts to check out.
Absolutely no Adventures - a fantasy (un)adventure story that follows Sig, the owner of Signature Eats bakery, as he aggressively avoids becoming embroiled in any daring quests or chosen one shenanigans even though the universe really seems to want him to do just that. This is a story about cutting Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey off at the knees to chill with friends and staying far, far away from the slightest whiff of adventure. And also baking. This is also a story about baking.
Afflicted - Lovecraft Country meets True Blood in this new series from award-winning producers Tonia Ransom and Jen Zink. In season one, a small East Texas town suffers supernatural disasters caused by a demonic book bound in human flesh…and only hoodoo can save the town from its affliction.
Apollyon - In the early 22nd century, the Apollyon virus wiped out 75% of the world’s population, and now most of the world is governed by the International Conglomerate of Research Scientists. Dr. Theo Ramsey is an ICRS research scientist who may have just discovered an effective vaccine for Apollyon, but the stakes to get the vaccine to the public are higher than she ever imagined.
Between Heartbeats - Tan immersive Urban Fantasy about the hurt, the powerful, and their growth within a broken world. We follow Sundiata, a guilt-ridden time manipulator with a knack for unemployment, and Nadia, a moralistic telepath determined not to lose control, as they balance frayed mental health against an unsympathetic police state. But when a malevolent presence rears is head, their neuroses become the least of their problems. Can our heroes make the most of their abilities before the option is taken from them?
Fan Wars: The Empire Claps Back - Two passionate Star Wars fans on opposite sides of the Last Jedi debate argue via Skype after their favorite forum closes down. If you love Star Wars (or call yourself a proud member of any fandom), you’ll love this romantic comedy told via
Harlem Queen - a Black historical fiction audio drama based on the life and times of Black, woman, "gangster" Madame Stephanie St. Clair during the Harlem Renaissance.
His Royal Fakin' Highness - What if Ophelia helped Hamlet get his throne back? This modern day, romantic comedy re-imagining of Shakespeare's Hamlet asks just that. As they stage an engagement in the wake of the king's death, these childhood frenemies must decide between duty and love.
InCo (This one's mine :D) - A Sci-Fi story about a disgruntled information seller, a mysterious space boy, and an android doing her best.
Janus Descending - a limited series, science fiction/horror audio drama podcast, follows the arrival of two xenoarcheologists on a small world orbiting a binary star. But what starts off as an expedition to survey the planet and the remains of a lost alien civilization, turns into a monstrous game of cat and mouse, as the two scientists are left to face the creatures that killed the planet in the first place.
Lady Lucy - Lady Lucy is an audio drama inspired by Shakespeare's "Dark Lady" Sonnets, 127-154. Between running her brothel, fighting the Church, murdering her friends' abusive husbands, and pretending to be a poet, the last thing Lucy needed back in 1586 was a surprise visit from her former flame... Will Shakespeare.
Liars and Leeches - Tonya Wright felt it all after the tragic murders of her sister and brother-in-law in a random act of gun violence. Struggling to travel outside of her home, she now lives constantly on edge about perceived threats that seem to surround her.
Nightlight - Multi-award winning horror podcast featuring creepy stories with full audio production written by Black writers and performed by Black actors. So scary it’ll make you want to leave your night light on.
Null /Void - a science fiction audio drama about a young woman, Piper Lee, whose life is saved by a mysterious voice named Adelaide. Piper soon uncovers a malicious plot by a monopoly of a tech company and must work with her friends and an unusual ally to help foil their deadly plot.
Out of Ashes - (currently remastering season 1) Follow a group of survivors as they navigate the ruins of modern civilization and battle against demons, ghosts, monsters and the looming threat of extinction from an ancient power.
Small Victories - A recently recovered drug addict tries to start her new lease on life, too bad life has it out for her. This dramatic comedy follows Marisol through the ups and downs of her life.
The Courtship of Mona Mae - In the 1870s, pioneers Mona Mae Christophe and Zekial Montgomery search the American West for Mona Mae's mother, Clara. Mona must recall a past, long forgotten in order to survive, so that she can find her mother, love and create a way of life for herself.
Vega a Sci-Fi Adventure Podcast - In a fantasy futuristic world, Vega Rex is employed by her government to kill off the world's worst criminals. She's never met a criminal she couldn't catch…until now. Join Vega as she journeys through a world of bumbling apprentices, powerful technogods, and her biggest challenge yet. Hosted by Ivuoma Hall.
Witchever Path - is an anthology series where your decisions effect the story. Our stories are based in America’s NorthEast, featuring characters finding themselves in the thick of the unknown while tackling issues like queer identity, gender, race, and spirituality. Stories often focus on the communities not typically seen in stories taking place in New England, and giving voice to the perspectives of those communities while uniting under some universal themes. And the supernatural happens. A lot.

Hi Ano! Thank you for being here this year and sharing your stories/ideas with us. As someone who is disabled to the point where I can't leave bed very much these days, people like you mean an incredibly lot to me. I can't go out into the actual world much so you and others help me build my own with your stories and art. I can't thank you enough for making my life so much more bearable.
I hope this new year treats you and I well! Much love from me to you 💕
Ohhh this is so sweet thank you so much this means a lot <33333
I hope you don’t mind my absolute lack for words but sometimes they escape me, but I’m genuinely glad to hear my art has helped you build your world and i hope it continues to to so
Here’s a comic i was never gonna share just for you <333
It revolves around Nightmare’s disability, and Dream using his healing powers just to ease the pain a lil, magical painkillers if you will hahaha, just a bit of my fave bittersweet fluff
I never got around to cleaning it up properly, so excuse any rough edges hchcchhc
#Nightmare trying so hard to hate dream and running out of excuses to do so is my favorite thing ever hcchchhchc#my Nightmare will never learn until he sees every excuse he uses for his behavior become null and void#soon enough it’s only the truth left to face#anothers ask#anothers art#nightmare sans#dream sans

sooo heres a fun little thought experiment /rp obviously
Why does Yellow hate Lukey?
A) He killed and is in a feud with one/multiple of their members B) He pranked their entire base, causing the castle to lag C) He was originally part of Yellow, before being kicked out D) He stole many of their members valued possessions for attention E) He existed
VVV Answers VVV
If you guessed: A, I'm sorry, you are incorrect. That is in fact what Badboyhalo (leader & strongest of the faction), Pangi (righthand man), & Krowfang (or: The Red One, hated by the kingdom's architect) have done! The first two are actually generally well-liked by the Kingdom, despite being the biggest threats and aggressors. Krow, while hated by the Royal Architect, isn't targeted by the rest of the faction because of this.
If you guessed: B, you're definitely incorrect! While mischevious, Lukey hasn't actively antagonized Yellow past generally defending himself in arguments and good-natured ribbing that all the realmers indulge in. This was actually Tubbo– the unexplained god and general joy and whimsy haver! Alongside Bad, he bred a crazy amount of pigs in what was dubbed the Porkalypse, and dropped them over Yellow castle. This was seen as fun and lighthearted, and Tubbo is well-liked by the Kingdom.
If you guessed: C, you may be confusing two well-spoken weak white boys. Jester Bartholomew, better known as Owen! Our lovable Jester larked a little too hard and psychologically shredded the prized Architect. Aw man! But he's dead now, after finally showing the King the best part of the joke: the execution.
If you guessed: D, that one was Badlinu. There isn't much to unpack there, just that they all forgave him for having good reasons (being attention-seeking)
If you guessed: E, you'd be right! Yes, Yellow despises Lukey simply because when he appeared, Roscumber didn't like his vibes. So she killed him, and they've been tripping over their high horses to justify it as "justice". Ignore the fact he's never resorted to any violence! He's evil, and if it doesn't seem so yet, remember: he will be some day. If we push him hard enough, degrade and belittle him enough, one day we can mould the perfect monster. Then we have the sacrificial scapegoat. And we were right all along.
#lukeytv#trsmp#the realm smp#eepy yaps to the void#POV you are soooo normal#idk. i've just. been thinking about it#originally this was gonna be about how Yellow hates Lukey#because hes the embodiment of their hypocrisy#“ohhh green is the evil murder faction”#meanwhile: the hamster#like. guys. be so fr#im kinda a green main but!!! be assured#i don't hate yellow#they're beautifully complicated#but like. lukey is where i draw the line.#girl. he genuinely didnt do anything#“she heard him in the null”#ok! you have trauma! lets work through that#and not just MURDER the innocent man you're projecting your fears on OVER and OVER#sorry. im normal im normal im normal

I think it’s real interesting that Jimmy cut enough of Curly’s leg off to feed the entire crew. It’s wasteful, it’s a risk that could’ve killed Curly (all the blood loss and shock) but it also shows the exact Captain Jimmy was.
More was lost than gained as is what happens with most of his actions and it was at the expense of others. No matter of it was through delusion, he kept taking from the people, the person he expected to do the most from him and believed the act of servicing him was one that benefited them all.
It was a celebration, not a feast, he did not need a cake nor was one allotted to him anymore per company policy. But Jimmy needed to be the captain Curly was and he got to slice into something didn’t he?
#something something curly gave up parts of himself that he didn’t have to or need to and it wasn’t enough only to have parts taken from him#when it would be rendered null and void#Jimmy mouthwashing#curly mouthwashing#captain curly#mouthwashing game#mouthwashing#mouthwashing spoilers

how canon do we think warzone is? characterisation things like the takedowns and voice lines?
obviously the takedowns are flashy as hell, that's the point, but things like ghost's "cheers ya slag" and "done and dusted" paint him as so much more arrogant than the campaign suggests
but he is arrogant ("i've seen better" "who?" "me") and we never see him work solo except for the opening scene in mw2 where he chooses to remain danger close to a missile (either just bc or bc he wanted to ensure the kill) so who's to say he doesn't act like that on his own? you even see a hint of it in the camera mission when he shows off to soap and jumps off the building to land on the shadow; what is that if not an arrogant, flashy takedown?
if he's happy to do that in the middle of a stealth mission what else would he do just bc he can?
we know warzone is canon in some respects like the seasonal cutscenes (ala alex's resurrection and "i wasn't in that tank") so at least those are canon but what about everything in between? do specgru and kortac exist in canon? is the 141 part of some greater allied team? (which begs the question why do they never try to contact them when the world is literally on the brink but that’s a very meta, “why didn’t anyone call the avengers in their solo movie?” level of nitpick and we don’t do that here, serious nitpicks only)
do we consider them in character? or is it technically an au? is warzone even made by the same team? would characterisation mean anything to them beyond “does it make the character sound cool?”
even zombies, soap takes on a lot more of a leadership role than we see in the campaign, do we think that's how he acts when he's not with the 141? bc that's a significant shift to go from a leader to a clear subordinate without any chafing or annoyance at getting dropped down the pecking order
then you take skins into account; things like ghost's senpai skin is obviously an au but if he gets new takedowns with it (i haven't played and don't know how it works Imao) do we think main ghost still has that skill set? or is it possible for him to learn it? would he want to?
i think the campaigns are set in stone canon but even that characterisation can be touch and go considering how dirty they did price in mw3 and even how mellow he was in mw2 compared to mw19 and just... everything about the final mw3 mission (and mw3 in general, even shepherd being in the helo when they detain makarov in verdansk is ooc as hell and only exists to serve the narrative)
(characterisation in this aspect is difficult to pin down bc it's hard to tell how much is them writing the character of soap, the character of ghost, and how much is them just writing generic military man 1 and generic military man 2; there's some personality and growth but we have to admit it's thin and subtextual at best. how much of soap's behaviour is bc that's how they wanted soap specifically to react and how much is it bc that's how a military guy would react? (things like being angry about releasing hassan when graves reacts the same way))
so if canon isn't even consistent, can we even trust warzone's characterisation?
(but that's a whole seperate gripe let's stay on track Imao)
do we think it's canon? or is it just battleworld where they can act however the devs want so we spend money on it?
#i could talk for days about the campaigns’ wishy washy characterisation#i know the answer is almost definitely the devs dont care so its practically comic rules lmao#there is consistency in the campaigns dont get me wrong some things are absolutely deliberate#but these guys arent exactly winning any screenplay awards for best original character lets be real#idk i was thinking about konig and how bare bones he is as a character since he only exists through voice lines#then thought a little bit more about said voice lines and how ghost saying cheers ya slag actually made me shiver the first time i heard it#like if you base your interpretation of ghost on his warzone lines i feel like you could get an entirely different character compared to#if you based him on the campain#how much of that is bc the campaign has cutscenes and deliberate storytelling?#were his voice lines written based on his campaign characterisation? or were they written on their own to sound cool? thats the question#food for thought#then things like snoop dogg and niki minaj operators kinda make any serious discussion null and void lmao#coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt#we’re a team. ghost team#cod mw2#cod modern warfare#cod mwii#cod meta#simon ghost riley#ghost cod#cod ghost#soap cod#john soap mactavish#cod soap#talk meta to me#meta#save post
