Bye I am acc desperate atp I need helpppp
Basically I go on holidays mid July and I just know the food will be so tempting (and I’m so scared of letting myself go) and my family will obvs notice if I don’t have anything but I also want to have a nice time 😭 what do I doooo??!!
And even if i eat small amounts of things I’ve no clue how many c@ls would be in them
I will be so so grateful for any tips or advice u have!! 💓
ily stay safe bb 🩵
hey! if i was in this situation i would just heavily r3strict for the week before. that way the vacation will be like a reward. ofc thats probably not good to advise you to do 😭
maybe instead of that, you can up your workouts and make sure all of ur meals/snacks are nutritional (get ur proteins and ur veggies) vs f00ds with just sugar and sodium. and that can help u have the energy to up ur workouts too.
u said you might “let urself go” no honey, its not a choice… its brain chemistry. if ur thinking about the f00d ur gonna be having over a month from now… youre in deep. you won’t “let yourself go”. youll be anxious either way. youre not gonns get used to e@ting normal and then just stick with it, even if h do youll slowly become obsessed with ur image again soon and go back to ur ways.. thats the fuck of it all… might as well ENJOY ur vacay.
it would rlly suck to go in vacation and be trying to guess the c4lories in everything, and ordering what u think is the lightest option. you should e@t what you want.
you can still r3strict certain f00d groups. if i was going on vacay with my family theyd buy snacks for the hotel or wherever we’d be staying. i would avoid those, bc i would normally avoid them at home.
going out to restaurants id do the same thing i do at home when i go to restaurants, order something that sounds good so i can enjoy myself, whether its a salad or a big mf burger lol. and i eat till im full. (if u dont have that sense, leaving 1/2 or 1/4 of the meal on the plate is a good measurement.)
if theres an appetizer, i have maybe a bite of each one and say im saving room for dinner, (my family and friends know i get full easily) & same goes with dessert. if it looks rlly good ill have a bite, but since i ordered what i WANTED for dinner, im satisfied before a dessert comes out and i play it off that im full.
i would probably figure out what we’re doing for food and decide what is most worth it to me and save my c4ls for that.
id also make a list of things i wanna enjoy. for example: my trip to nyc i wanted to try
-new york pizza
-a pastry and latte from the cafe next to my hotel
-a martini
-something fried from a food truck
-any non american food restaurant (italian, french, idk)
-a croissant from this popular cafe in times square
and i just kinda rationed it out. i remember my bf wanted to go for a walk, i new we’d pass the bakery, so i pointed it out and indulged there. got a matcha tea and a macaroon & then played off being full until dinner and chose something light (i think i made us get sushi that night which is pretty low in c4l) another day, we took the metro to soho and we walked around ALL day, so by the time we got back to the hotel it was late. we ordered the pizza i wanted to try… and i didnt care bc i had 20k steps done. i was still able to have everything i wanted the whole time, i just r3strictied the things that werent on my list.
idk what kind of vacation ur going on but a lot of them call for lots of walking, so thats a plus. you will not g4in that much. thats why i said id go crazy a week before, so that i dont feel like im g4ining it just feels like its fluctuating normally.
either way if u let urself enjoy it atleast ur metabolism will get faster! (im toxic) lol metab week(s?) ❕
me and my bf are planning a 2 week trip to europe. 2 weeks before we go i would push myself to burn way more c4l than normal. and i wouldn’t w3igh myself in that time. in 2 weeks i could lose like 4Ibs and not even know, that way when i get back from vacation and ive g4ined 3Ibs i wouldnt even notice. then life goes back to normal!
i hope that makes sense, and i hope its not too much. i really hope u enjoy ur vacation & can allow urself to enjoy a few of the f00ds wherever ur going. 🩷

Do you have a favorite food or cuisine?
I do! Japanese is my absolute favorite with sushi probably being my absolute top. My Dad was a real go getter business man in the 80s and was very into sushi so I was introduced to it at a very young age so I fell in love with it as a wee child. Later I discovered the rest of Japanese cuisine largely thanks to my Japanese BFF growing up and later my home stay in Japan. In addition to Japanese food though I absolutely adore dim sum, living in NYC for 5 years my partner and I tried to go into Manhattan (we lived in Queens) every weekend to our favorite dim sum restaurant. I love Chinese cuisine as a whole though, but dim sum is my favorite. I adore German food too though, particularly schnitzels! I’m a terrible Scandinavian and hate my own cuisine lol it’s all gross fermented fish and reindeer 🤢 the liquor is fine though, I’ll happily drink Aquavit all night. Apologies to my fellow Scandies but y’all know our food isn’t good.

Some of my assorted headcanons for Anoush ☺️
Likes
-Favorite movies: Some Like it Hot, Doctor Zhivago, and Saturday Night Fever
-Favorite TV shows: How to Get Away with Murder, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Frasier, and Veep
-Favorite musical artists: Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Sam Cooke, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Oscar Peterson Trio, Neutral Milk Hotel, Cocteau Twins, Belle and Sebastian, The Cranberries, The Velvet Underground, Beirut, The National
-Favorite foods: Baguette with brie and butter, coq au vin, pasta carbonara, shakshuka, sushi (esp. anything w/ fresh tuna), pozole, orange blossom and pistachio ice cream
-Favorite season: fall (the one thing he misses about New York)
-Coffee order: triple americano with a tablespoon, no more no less, of half and half. If he doesn't trust the espresso at a place, he'd rather get a chai.
Backstory (this gets long)
-He moved out to LA about 15 years ago from NYC, and he grew up near NYC but not in the city. His main motivation for moving there was to get away from overbearing family. He does have cousins in the LA area but most of his family is still out east.
-His father ran a dry cleaning business and his mother was an administrator at a dental office - both have been retired for a while.
-He has a bachelor degree, double majored in economics and history, and he did do law school for a year before accepting that he hated it, which caused a lot of strife with his parents. He tried to make them happy by working at a law firm for a while as a receptionist/file clerk, but the environment was awful for his stress and he just knew he couldn't do it forever.
-When he moved, he worked a lot of odd jobs - a couple restaurants, a winery, some a-hole executive's personal assistant, etc. Hated all of it. He had a very tough time making friends. He even tried going to a nearby synagogue to make friends, though he's not very religious, only to find he was the youngest person in attendance by a few decades that wasn't married with children.
-I might expand on this in a later story, but Anoush met Daniel when he was looking for a car. His own car broke down and money was tight. As they were talking they found out they were both from out east, and ended up having a super long conversation. Anoush left with a nice used car and a job offer.
-He thought he would hate working in sales, but found out that he likes the actual reward for working hard and having conversations with one customer at a time/forming a connection with them.
-In his spare time, he tries a lot of restaurants. He tries to go to one new restaurant every week - he has a huge jar full of hundreds of restaurant names that he picks out of. He also gets out of town as often as he can and takes 1-2 day trips up the coast or out to the desert. California is so different from where he grew up and he just wants to get out and experience as much as possible.
-He has a hereditary autoimmune condition known as Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF). He experiences periodic attacks of abdominal pain, headaches, and inflammation, always accompanied by a fever. It doesn't happen often and it's become less of an issue as he's gotten older, but the attacks can take him out for up to a few days at a time. He's mostly healthy otherwise, but has to be on medication to prevent damage to his kidneys from the condition.
-His sexuality has always been a serious sore spot for him. He's had lots of girlfriends, but it never lasts long. He's known since high school that he's attracted to men, and his only serious long-term relationship was with a guy in college. The list of men he's been with is very short in comparison to the women, and they've always made him much happier - but those relationships have always been covert. Whenever they get to the stage where they're introducing each other to family and friends, Anoush tends to self-sabotage and the relationship ends.
-He's an only child, and the burden of not having any grandchildren for his parents weighs heavily on him. Part of why he left New York was his idea that it would be easier to date girls who weren't from the place or culture he grew up in, and it hasn't worked out. By the time we meet him in Cobra Kai, he's getting desperate to make the fantasy happen. His parents are getting pretty old. He thinks that the disappointment of no grandkids plus the shock of finding out he's gay would be too much for them.

You know those Japanese restaurants where there’s like a naked person as the plate ? I think hanayama would be into that lol (with s/o of course)
Okay so one time I was in NYC and there was this sushi spot next to our hotel… it was a body sushi restaurant and I had no idea. I HAD NO IDEA THAT WAS A THING UNTIL 2017
And Scar Daddy would do that. He freak freak

Vince Dunn’s current Insta story at a sushi restaurant is not his/new - it’s a repost of a story Daniella DiRenzo (his latest Insta follow) posted yesterday! He must be enjoying a few days in NYC with her. Meanwhile the rest of us are still waiting on his Kraken contract news…
I’m surprised he would post it, even if it’s not tagged or anything. I wonder if it’s him in the background of her story from last night?

Okay, SO. I want to go to a good restaurant or two when I go to NYC (I almost talked myself out of it but if I work my ass off for the next three months I should be okay). I know nothing about NYC restaurants so I’m open to recommendations!
Notes:
I’m not a vegetarian and I have no dietary restrictions.
I am VERY open to trying new things so even if something is a little different I’m game. And even though I’m not a vegetarian or vegan, good food is good food. 😊
That said, I know I don’t like Thai food (I tried, it just wasn’t my thing) and beer/wine/champagne (I usually stick to things like Smirnoff Ice and amaretto and Coke). I really like sushi, Cajun food/seafood boils, and comfort food (last time I was in NYC, I ordered DoorDash twice from a place called B*tch Don’t Grill My Cheese).
I don’t want to spend a ridiculous amount on a restaurant, if only because I like to tip a lot if I’m going to go out and I want to be able to afford to go out AND to tip right.
If I can make a reservation now for the first week of May, all the better! Scheduling things ahead of time keeps me from spending an entire vacation curled up in my hotel bed ordering DoorDash and watching Netflix. (Which is fine! Really! It’s vacation and you can do what you want on vacation. But I want to go out in the city and do stuff, you know?)

17 questions, 17 people
thanks for the tag @seresinhangmanjake – go read hers here!
nickname: Em is a nickname! I will also accept thot
sign: Capricorn
height: 5′2"
last thing i googled: Restaurants midtown NYC (lol going next week and need to set up a meeting place with a client and can we just admit Midtown central kind of blows for good non-steak house options?)
song stuck in my head: Midnight Rain
number of followers: 774
amount of sleep: 7 hours
lucky number: 13
dream job: Dermatologist, OBGYN or author!
wearing: Lululemon head to toe like the suburban mom I aspire to be (define jacket, align pants, align bra)
movies/books that summarize you: Ooh not sure I can find one that summarizes me. I'll just leave you with the idea that my vibe is Leslie Mann's character in "How To Be Single"
favorite song currently? Weirdly it's gotta be "Somewhere in the Orange" by Zach Bryan
aesthetic: Old world academia + Southern ladies who lunch + suburban yoga mom + OCD chef
favorite author: Do not make me choose from my babies. I'm on a bit of a Ruth Ware kick as I just finished "The It Girl" but I really pop around, it's more of a genre thing to me – mystery + romance + English Victorian lit. Also weird book plug but I read "I Am Pilgrim" by Terry Hayes last year and it was one of the best books I've read in the last decade.
random fun fact: I drunkenly knocked on an office door in my old office building desperate to know what they did because they had no signage. Ends up they were the corporate comms teams for the NY Islanders, which is how I found myself sitting in their owner's box the next night at Barclays eating a sushi buffet and wearing a free Islanders hat that I still own to this day. I also met Anne Hathaway in a bathroom in that building.

New York City is a cultural melting pot, and its culinary scene is a testament to that diversity. Among the many cuisines present, Japanese food has carved out a significant niche in the city. This journey through various NYC neighborhoods famous for Japanese cuisine will explore historical context, depict the current food landscape, and offer must-visit recommendations based on insights from food critics and influencers.
History of Japanese Cuisine in NYC
Japanese immigrants have been integral to New York's cultural fabric since the late 1800s. Some of the city's oldest Japanese restaurants, like Tanaka Tora-Ya (est. 1902) and Hakubai (est. 1994), offer a window into the history of Japanese cuisine in NYC. These establishments have endured over time, maintaining traditional recipes while evolving to suit modern palates. Dining at these venues feels like stepping back in time, where one can enjoy historically significant culinary techniques.
The lasting popularity of these restaurants underscores how the city's Japanese food culture has grown while keeping its roots intact. From sushi to ramen, these establishments introduced New Yorkers to authentic Japanese flavors long before Japanese cuisine became mainstream.
Manhattan’s Japanese Dining Districts
Manhattan is home to several Japanese dining hubs, with East Village standing out in particular. Here, one can find numerous authentic Japanese eateries such as Soba Totto and Ippudo Westside. The East Village is famous for its mix of casual dining spots and upscale restaurants, offering food enthusiasts a broad spectrum of Japanese dishes, from classic soba noodles to creative ramen dishes.
Another prominent area is Midtown, where upscale establishments like Sushi Yasuda and Ootoya deliver a high-end dining experience. These spots attract both locals and tourists who are in search of top-quality sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese specialties. Manhattan's love for gastronomy ensures these dining districts are essential components of the city's culinary scene.
Japanese Cuisine Beyond Manhattan
Japanese cuisine also flourishes beyond Manhattan, especially in other Asian food districts such as Koreatown and Sunset Park in Brooklyn. These neighborhoods add their unique twists to Japanese food.
In Koreatown, Takumenyc and Sushi Katsuei are standout venues, known for their excellent sushi and innovative dishes that blend Japanese and Korean flavors. Similarly, Sunset Park offers a diverse array of Asian cuisine, with Japanese influences evident in beloved local spots.
Exploring Japanese Markets
Exploring Japanese markets like Mitsuwa Marketplace and Sunrise Mart offers profound insights into Japanese culinary traditions. These markets provide unique ingredients essential for making authentic dishes at home, ranging from fresh seafood to specialty condiments and snacks.
Apart from shopping, these markets often feature in-house eateries where you can enjoy a quick, authentic Japanese meal. The lively atmosphere and diverse products make these markets a haven for food enthusiasts and home cooks alike.
Participating in NYC Food Tours
For a more guided experience, taking part in a Japanese food tour in New York City can be incredibly rewarding. These tours typically guide participants through various neighborhoods, giving them the opportunity to sample different Japanese dishes, learn about the history and cultural significance of the cuisine, and meet the chefs behind these culinary masterpieces.
Food tours offer a fantastic platform for both locals and tourists to uncover hidden gems and gain a deeper appreciation for the versatile landscape of Japanese cuisine in NYC.

Day 11 - Japan Blog - 17 February 2024
Today was the DAY! We got seats for lunch at Kichi-Kichi Omurice (which we tried to get last year but they had a different reservation system which booked out months in advance in less than an hour…!) now you have to be at the restaurant at 8am for the password and at 9am the website opens up for the 10 seats inside the restaurant.
We had a bit of time before lunch so we went to the Nintendo Store and had a nice walk around before it was time for our reservation. We shared a table with a bunch of American dudes from NYC (and surrounds); some of them had no idea what they were in for and one guy was filming with three cameras HAHA! Kichi Kichi is CRAZY! He is crazy in the most normal way. The food is yummy and the show is awesome! He even helped show me how to cook the Omurice properly. Arigato master! After lunch we used our Hop on Hop off ticket to get around Kyoto (it's actually a great way to do it, considering there aren't any trains in Gion area...!) and we went to the Golden Pavillion called Kinkaku-Ji. It was so pretty with the reflection in the water. Then we got back on the bus to go to the Gion district. I wanted to take Ben to the starbucks along the Sannenzaka path.
The sun was going down and it started to get cold... a lot of the shops were closed so we had to walk back to the hotel. We got a bit lost and walked the wrong way -- but when we got back to the hotel I decided to drink all the booze we had accumulated over the trip. But of course, dinner. Ben wanted the yakatori place thats next to our hotel but we have never been past and had an opportunity to go in -- or theyve been busy or closed. After waiting there for 25 mins and being told they werent serving any more people -- I settled on sushi. (Keeping in mind, neither of us usually eat fish— all this was only $36 including drinks and dessert) it was so fresh and amazing — I NEED MORE! (Ben hated it!)
This is one of the Evangelion Craft Beers I found...! This one is an Orange IPA. 🍊🍺
