Soooo like... Rudy is def gonna die before the end of deltarune right? I mean. Yeah sure it'll be. Traumatizing or whatever. But theres way too much, what's the phrase... narrative momentum to be gained for toby to NOT do it y'know? In fact I could go on a whole rant about how I'm pretty sure Rudy KNOWS hes gonna die and is prepping susie to be a replacing support beam in noelles life. (See also: "Kris and Dad are the only ones I can say no to") and the SNOWGRAVE INPLICATIONS. ANOTHER RANT ON ITS OWN!! Anyways your thoughts?

but seriously, i think rudy dying is PROBABLY going to happen, but i kind of hope it doesnt. noelle's home life is garbage and i get it honestly. like, rudy blantly says that he's not there to protect noelle from carol (idk if thats her name but ive been calling noelles mom that soooo), implying that she can and WILL hurt noelle, and has almost definitely done that in the past (emotionally, probably not physically). noelle has a TEXTBOOK broken home and i really hope the game ends with her out of that house or with a confirmation that her mom isn't going to hurt her anymore, because oh my god her situation is terrible. her sister is either dead or out of the picture, her father is in the hospital and probably going to die soon, and she has a most likely emotionally abusive mom.

oh yeah her mom is almost definitely emotionally abusive like. as someone whos been in a similar situation to her, just her being too scared to ask for a key to get into her own home and preferring to go OUT OF HER WAY to stay with someone else than ask for something is a textbook sign of it. rudy says that he has to protect her from carol. noelle is upset that it's just "her and mom" now, and while that's clearly meant to be referring to how rudy isnt at home, its also probably a hint that she doesnt like being alone with her mom. she's also just a people pleaser, implying she's afraid of the consequences of not being seen as "good". whether that's because of a fear of reputation her mom mightve given her, or an avoidance of conflict she's developed after living with her for a while i cant really say. ALSO YOUR POINT OF "kris and dad are the only ones i can say no to" NOTICE HOW SHE SAYS 'dad' and not 'my parents' BECAUSE YEAH HER MOTHER IS EXCLUDED.

no matter how you slice it noelle's home life is just terrible and rudy and dess seemed to be the only reason it was functional for as long as it was. and with dess out of the picture and rudy probably going to follow, i dont have very high hopes for their relationship. i really hope toby handles this well, and the story doesn't end with noelle and carol living alone together. i also dont hope it ends with rudy, dess, or both back in the house with her, because their household isnt sustainable. as someone who's lived in a house like this, it's going to break down one way or another. dess and rudy cant always be there to defuse situations, and they shouldnt HAVE to.

the ending i want is for carol and rudy to split up, and have rudy live with noelle without her. carol may be a good wife and a good mayor but she is not a good mother, and i don't want noelle to be stuck in a house like that.

i may be misjudging carol because we haven't seen her in the game yet, but i just. dont think she's going to be any good. this game definitely seems like its going for giving all their characters bad home lives. like,

-kris's brother is away, their mom seems a bit overbearing and like she's not quite sure what kris needs, and their dad, while caring, isn't the best at. being a parent.

-susie so far has been implied to have some sort of shitty home life but we're not quite sure of the type. we know she's always hungry, but whether thats because of negligence and potentially fear to get food on her own or financial problems is unknown.

-ralsei's been alone his whole life, so his family is just. out of the picture. he's completely isolated and if his parents were around for at least a little, i dont think they were very good.

-berdly felt like he needed to be smart to be recognized, implying that his family might just not care that much about him or really pay attention to him.

it's a theme of this game for characters to have weird or bad home lives and i dont think noelle would be an exception. so yeah, her mom is probably emotionally abusive. with all the evidence in game and just. generally how all the mcs have bad home lives i think its the most likely situation.

back to actually talking about rudy though, yeah he's probably going to die. i really hope he doesnt, because while realistically things dont always work out, having rudy there and maybe moving out with her would definitely make it better. it just feels uncomfortable for her to be stuck in a household like that.

noelle is kind of lonely too. like, her sister is gone, kris and her grew apart, and berdly is really fucking flirty, and probably not that close with her really, since she doesn't include him in the group of people she can say no to.

noelle's list of people she can say no to is just kris and rudy. that's it. her estranged childhood best friend and her dad. not berdly, seemingly her only current friend and the one she's probably the closest with out of the whole class, or susie, her crush (although that might just be because it was before they really started to understand each other more as people and really be friends). her list of people who "know how weird she is" is just kris. not even her dad is included. the only person who might be missing on both of those lists is dess, and she's just out of the picture and thats probably why shes not included.

so as to the idea of rudy trying to set up susie as an emotional support for noelle, yeah i think he'd do that. he definitely has seen that noelle's running low on people she relies on and wants her to have someone else in her life. he really encourages her to get to know susie and just be honest with her. it's cute and wholesome and just. a good dad moment. he's a great father, or at least one who's trying his best. a top tier dad.

i do think thematically that rudy is going to die. its set up that way from the very start, and i think its sort of being hinted at. like, noelle remarks that the dark world is better because 'everything can be healed with a little spell', implying that rudy's in too bad of a state to recover very easily, and "your choices dont matter" could also be saying something like "no matter what you do, he's going to die". idk thats just my take.

but i really dont want this game to end with noelle and carol alone. i've lived in families like that and it's horrible, and it just feels uncomfortable and bad that noelle's stuck in a situation like that. i want carol to have an arc where she starts being a better parent and actually trying, but more importantly i want noelle not to forgive her. abusive parents can change as people but they cant change what they did. noelle's mom has hurt her and she shouldn't just be forgiven immediately. she needs to make an effort, and noelle doesn't even have to forgive her after that. she deserves to have a home life where she's not so afraid to ask for a key to her own house that she goes to stay with a friend instead. get noelle out of that house, or have carol change.

i realize that i talked way more about noelle and carol in a post about rudy, but honestly i relate a lot to noelle's situation and i dont want her to be stuck in a life like that. its bad and i want toby to handle it well. if the game ends where i think it will, with noelle still living at home alone with carol, maybe with dess there, i'll just be sad. like girl, get out of that HOME!!!!!!! it's toxic as SHIT

also i know that some people are going to say "oh her mom isnt trying to hurt her, maybe she just did [x] and thats why noelle is how she is." to which i say, not all abusers have malicious intent. maybe shes just doing it because thas how she was raised and she turned out fine, or maybe she's just kind of negligent and doesnt pay enough attention to noelle to realize how she's being hurt, or maybe its something else entirely. but no matter what her intentions are, its still abuse, and whether she likes it or not, she's hurt the only daughter she has left. the truth is we don't know all the details of what's going on, and we probably won't know for a long time, or maybe ever. but no matter what, this relationship isn't healthy, and it doesn't matter what everyone's trying to do, all that matters is what they did do. and what carol did was emotionally abuse her daughter.

anyways thanks for coming to my ted talk. also the deltarune ending i HOPE happens is rudy gets out of the hospital, gets a divorce and marries asgore, then goes and moves out with noelle. thats only half a joke.

Well , imagine if you will , dear wick , Reaper. Reaper is from godtale. Godtale characters are gods (duh)

Sometimes , when drawing random unrelated gods or powerful deities (some eldritch deities for example) , they'll make them tall.

Basically what I'm proposing is Reaper being like 30 stories tall or something.

Like imagine you go out into the multiverse and everyone is "tiny" and then you discover you're the tall freak. And then you discover that the gods out there are even tinier than average.

Also afterdeath. Afterdeath in that context.

unamzi i will be answering this but first i really want to say that reaper comes from reapertale not godtale they’re all gods but it’s reapertale im so sorry. the comic is called reapertale (by renrink). he is called reaper similar to the reason fell is called fell. it is the name. anyway here’s a warning for being so uncanon that it’ll probably get annoying fast

ANYWAY i love the idea of god characters being able to change their heights—or more accurately, forms. im obsessed with the ink and error are gods headcanon so they’ll be here too im so sorry to the god hc haters. dream and nm will not be here though because they’re guardians and not gods and thus infinitely lamer

i like to imagine god characters in reapertale (and any god characters outside of it) have two forms similar to some ancient stories, which i will dub (very creatively) their big boy forms, and their teeny tiny forms. obviously they often pursue the latter. reaper is still tall in his though because i’m a reaper with morticia’s body type truther. probably about as tall as fresh. i also imagine ink would be one of the only gods with a lot more control over his form but that is unimportant here

the reason i imagine this whole form changing thing, specifically for reaper, is convenience. when in his universe’s version of the heavens, he’s in his big boy body. but it’d be really hard to reap souls if you were that big and couldn’t fit into the hospital room, much less use your scythe to comfortably reap their soul without accidentally killing everyone else in the room as well because your scythe is also that big, so he, alongside other gods, were given a teeny tiny form for convenience. i also imagine life (rt!toriel) stays primarily in her teeny tiny form for the sake of not being detected by the other gods, and so she can be a comfortable size when taking care of the plants in her garden. i have no care for canon when im having fun. joy and whimsy > accuracy

and as for afterdeath, the save screen is also huge. possibly infinitely so. so when pushed by geno after a while, reaper would probably relent and oh my god that is a big ass skeleton, yet he would still manage to comfortably fit in the save screen. imagine you go on your computer to play undertale and look at the title screen and see some emo ass sans covering up a solid half of it. anyway, reaper’s big boy body would probably intimidate and probably scare the hell out of geno at first, but i’m in love with the bride and the ugly ass groom trope when it involves a god/dess that’s like seventy feet tall and the stupid little husband, so that is also very much them at times. not always, because you know, comfort, but sometimes. geno and his ethereal husband

as for ink and error because remember that tidbit? yeah canon is dead i killed it. so as for them, the anti void and doodlesphere are both also huge, so they could again comfortably fit in each of those places while being big boys. i like to think they choose deliberately to not be ‘big’ all the time. while reaper does it for his job and to not scare mortals, most of his life in the heavens is spent in big boy form. ink and error meanwhile rarely are in theirs, probably because ink ventures into aus so often that he either forgets he even has one or just wants to appear the same as other sanses. error is probably he same, but rather because he steals things for fun, and what’s the point of stealing a bar of chocolate if it’s barely visible compared to you? how is he supposed to enjoy that?! he finds it easier

i also really like the idea of applying more biblically accurate angel type designs to ‘god forms’ or whatever the equivalent is, or something ‘creepy’ and symbolic of their character/jobs. i’ve got cool designs stored away that i might remake actually….. aw fuck look what you’ve done you’re making me be creative oh god

Wrote a fic. it's about kris realizing they're enby and subsequently coming out to the Holiday sisters and Azzy. naturally, they do not know they're enby beforehand, so there will be misgendering and their name will be spelled differently, but their internal monologue still uses they/them, so don't worry too much.

Chris reached up to adjust their horns, having knocked them on a tree limb on accident. They were beginning to regret taking a walk with Azzy and their Holiday friends, they'd had to finangle with their accessories constantly, even unhook their shirt a handful of times.

"Eeek! My skirt!"

They were faring better than Noelle, though. Maybe it just came with having long, flowy clothing, but she just about managed to get tangled up in every stray branch imaginable.

"Shoot, and that one's brand new, too," Dess lamented, feeling the newly-torn hole in the skirt area of Noelle's outfit. "That's what you get when you ask for a long dress despite knowing you trek around in the forest all day."

Noelle whined. "But I liiiike this one!! Long skirts feel nice and I don't have to worry about being immodest around Mom!"

"Oooo, does it spin?" Chris leaned in with a grin. Hehe, that rhymed.

Noelle giggled, twirling in place once they reached their clearing. The skirt billowed outwards, and she squeaked as she stumbled on her hoof from the spinning. Dess caught her in time, fortunately, but Noelle was still laughing dizzily in her arms.

Chris flapped their hands with fervor, enraptured. "That's so cool!! Why don't I have any skirts, Azzy?"

Azzy frowned down at them. "Well, for one, you'll trip like Noelle just did, no doubt. But also, skirts are girl clothes, and you're not a girl."

Dess elbowed him. "Hey, he can wear whatever he wants! Just 'cuz skirts aren't really guy clothes doesn't mean he can't wear 'em."

"Well, yeah," Azzy argued, "but it'd be kind of weird, yeah? He's little, I don't think he really knows what boyhood entails."

"Well, Noelle knew, and she's only a year or so older than him. Most trans kids'll know something's up at that age."

"But Chris isn't trans!"

"You don't know that!"

Both Chris and Noelle looked up at the bickering teens with wide eyes. After a moment, Chris leaned over. "What are they talking about?"

"Oh, uh. I guess you didn't know me then, did you, faha. You know how I have antlers right now even though Dess doesn't?" After a nod from Chris, Noelle kept going. "That's because I wasn't born a girl. When I was younger, people thought I was a boy, like you, but it felt wrong, and when I told people, they started talking like I was a girl, and that felt much better. So I'm a girl now!"

Chris blinked. "Huh? Did they just get it wrong at first, or...?"

Noelle shook her head. "No, they got it right. It's just... Hm. Okay. I know what you look like, but mentally, in your SOUL or whatever, you just... you FEEL like a boy, right?"

Chris just stared at her for a substantial amount of time. "No? Isn't it just my genitals?"

Jumping, Noelle blushed furiously and covered their mouth. Chris pouted under her fingers, giving her the most wet cat expression they could muster, but she shook her head again. "Shhhhhh!! Don't say that so loud!" she whispered loudly. "That's inappropriate! But no, there's a mental part too. If you were in a body with... The other... parts, would you feel weird about it?"

"Nnnooooooo??" They tilted their head at her. "Not any weirder than it normally is."

She paused. "Huh?"

"I don't know, I just kinda wish I didn't have any of that. It's weird, people put me in all these weird boxes. I don't like it, I'm just a person."

Noelle looked down, thinking, before turning to Dess and tugging her arm to get her attention. "Dess? What's it called when you don't wanna have a gender?"

The argument between the teenagers was put on hold for a moment as Dess glanced at her. "Don't wanna...? Well, anyone can not want their gender, mostly because of how people think of said gender, but people who don't have a gender at all are nonbinary. Or, agender, but that's just a kind of nonbinary. Why?"

Chris craned their head to look at her before pointing at themself. Noelle followed suit, pointing at them too. Their neck hurt from looking up. Everything hurt all the time, it was annoying.

"You're saying that describes you?" Asriel piped in. Chris nodded at him.

After a moment of silence, Dess spasmed and whirled toward Azzy, pointing. "I KNEW it! I TOLD you! HA!!! TWENTY BUCKS!"

"Titan damn it- You sure you're getting this right? Would you want us to use neutral pronouns for you? Do you want to be a they?"

"I don't really... What?"

"I don't wanna give Dess twenty dollars."

Chris looked over at Dess, who was still celebrating with herself, and grinned. "Then yes."

"TITAN DAMN IT." Azzy fished out his wallet, sifted through it for a moment, then slapped down a twenty into Dess' waiting hand with a sigh. She cheered, making Chris giggle. "Don't tell me we're changing your name, too, you liked this one."

"No promises," they jeered. To be honest, they didn't really care all that much. But they're glad they they could be out of the obligation that was "boyhood", that was nice. And maybe they'd always thought of themself with the neutral words that they use for people they don't know. And maybe they wanted to mix things up with their name a little, too.

But it's just one more weird thing about them, and they're a weird person. And they like that, they think. Noelle was weird, even weirder than they realized, and Dess and Azzy were weird too. And they were pretty cool, so maybe Chris was too. They could get behind that.

"This is my friend, Chris Dreemurr. They're nonbinary, and they like chocolate. My little sister is good friends with them. Oh my god, I get to call you an enby, that's adorable. This is the best. Your queer is infectious, Azzy, they're not even related to you and they're enby. This is the best."

They smiled. This felt right. In a multitude of wrong-ness that surrounded them, covering their skin instead of fur, this was the one thing that felt correct.

Maybe they could be Kris Dreemurr this time.

Considering regular Dark Mind has some strong callbacks to Nightmare in his design (being a visual melange of Nightmare + Zero) you could believe they were partners/allies/frenemies at one point. It's possible that it was Parallel Dark Mind (because it pretty much as to be the Parallel of Dark Mind, right?) who decided, after possessing Parallel Dedede, that they had surpassed their fellow long-faced wizard rival-friend and stopped answering his calls.

Speaking of friends, I wonder if Parallel Nightmare had any underlings of his own akin to Dark Taranza and Pres. Parallel Susie. Ones that maybe wouldn't stab him in the back? ...Hmm, I wonder where Parallel Magolor and Parallel Marx are right now?

(If they're still vicious trouble makers, I wonder if it was one of them who was like "Oh, you TOTALLY ought to reach out to this guy if you get in trouble." "For sure! The results will be a real spectacle, I bet!")

Haha! I wonder if I could start alternatively calling DMK x DMK (Shadow Dedede vers) DMKx2 or DMKsquared? But now that I think about duplicates and parallel selves (thanks to Crash's ask above) isn't it a little worriesome (/lh) that there are probably MANY "parallel" versions out there? Because again, D-Mind is probably possessing a Parallel Dedede but NOT the Parallel Dedede from Star Allies. And there may also be yet a third Dedede in the Clash verse who isn't possessed by anyone?! I mean, when it comes down to it, "parallel" just means "a universe that turned out differently!"

There could be dozens of "same character" down the line...

I certainly think the potential for this idea is HUGE!

I myself am a fan of Magolor having to confront versions of himself that turned out wrong but the idea that he'd run across a version that was "wrong" but also did HARM to his friends...

Yeah, the "pay for one's sins" guy would definitely step in.

And I agree that is probably how he learned so much about events he wouldn't otherwise be around for. Dark Matter Clone? Susie's Father? Although I feel there's a chance he knew about Joronia from earlier all on his own. After all, he includes an accurate description of her in his weapon's catalogue in his shoppe! (And again, we've got the portraits on the abandoned TDX castle to suggest Magolor and Taranza communicated on some level in the past.)

As for the equipment, it's possible that those were in a way his "redemption" to Kirby - the only Kirby he had access to until he was able to "return to Dream Land" - and so keeping them didn't make sense. They were gifts. I also get the feeling that he doesn't have a huge interesting in physical fighting, and at least half of the gear is swords and axes. (The way he uses his version of the Ultra Sword is very particular and indicates no proficiency in swordsmanship on his part.) But if he really is dimension hopping on a semi-regular basis, he may also just need to keep it in stock at the shop!

Awwww...! Dess will never admit this ask actually got Dess to draw a super quick sketch of Noir as an angel watching over Adeleine from heaven(What even is "heaven" in the Kirby-verse anyway?) right after reading it! Oh fudge, I just admitted to that very thing didn't I?! Nooo! What have I done?! It's so DeviantArt-tier sappy though that I don't want to post it. It's so cliche it would utterly ruin my rep! Definitely don't politely ask me to post it because then I might give in...!!

...A-ahem. But yes, Adeleine will be okay!

As to whether poor, poor Noir will ever learn that for himself, all I can say is... hold out hope for the final two parts of the story!

I feel so embarrassed because I had to go back and look at the pic to realize they were even there. It was completely subconscious on my part. I guess that's the thing about being a novice artist. Sometimes you stumble upon something really cool without even noticing!

But now that you've pointed it out, it's something I think I'd like to keep doing. DMK as a sort of chipping crystal ball is neat~

Despite all that I wrote in my initial post about this...

...I kinda want her to come back too! She was a great tragic villain! And the possibility of a Triple Deluxe remake... it could still happen!

(I mean, we just got Amazing Mirror with modern online multiplayer! It feels like they went the extra mile for that and so I think the Kirby series is still in a good place for receiving (good) fan service!)

Yesss! It is SO good! Big, muscle-guy Dedede being tech-oriented?! It's out of type in the best way! I love that Dedede continually unlocks his potential, both in the changes to his personality but what he's capable of in skill sets too! It is, to me, the reason WHY he is Kirby's rival rather than Meta Knight or another character.

And if Meta Knight pilots a ship anything like he does a car in Dreamy Gear, it's a good thing he isn't the pilot. I wonder if there's a disconnect for him between flying and piloting? Like going from playing a 2D side-scrolling/overhead shooter where "up" is up versus playing one in first-person with reverse camera controls?

Poor Vul must put up with so much...!

It could just be me (I think multiple interpretations are best) but I've always taken Dark Taranza's garb to not as a sign he took over Sectonia's role but as...a form of mourning for her?

Like he dresses and styles himself that way as tribute? So I suppose in that sense, I don't think Mirror Sectonia got corrupted.

Oh boy, I suppose my brief theory there works REALLY well for the people who think main world Sectonia got swapped with her Mirror World self if Dark Taranza "lost" her and then took up her "style."

(Although I also adore your "Mirror Sectonia started crazy and became good" theory too! It's wild in the best of ways!/genuine And just because I saw Dark Taranza as dressing that way doesn't mean Evil King Taranza isn't also an amazing idea!)

Y-You know, my family often catches me on my accidentally using phrases that are maybe a little more coded and/or have different and deeper meanings than I probably intended. ^^;

So :cough: to clarify, I wouldn't necessarily say Leon's worthy of a full on diagnosis, but in his short pre-fight monologue (11 text boxes long) two of those contain a variation on the phrase "left behind."

And two more talk about long-held dreams and years of planning.

It suggests to me that Leon thinks about the animals being left behind by humanity a lot. Which is really interesting when you realize that as the literal King of the Beasts with a pack, nay a whole planet full of animals at his call and the entire run of the natural landscape to their own... he should really WANT for nothing??

Having Humanity ditch would be ideal for an animal-led society. And Leon doesn't specify what he wants the miraculous power for but...I get the feeling he wouldn't mind a chance to sink his teeth into AHEM "talk" to the ex-Forgotten Landers.

Now, whether Leon has felt their being ditched happened enough for it to become a reoccurring condition, uh... I guess Elfilis did shatter his soul and leave him for dead?  But the truth is I probably just exaggerated a wee bit. (But it got me this ask and a chance to talk about Leongar and I love the Beast Pack so it's all good!)

Also, you know, I'm just generally pretty notorious (?!) for reading a LOT (...too much?) characterization into very little!

That said, I think the idea of him being a "...for the cost of your soul" Devil is very neat. It's a role the Kirby-verse doesn't have currently and could surely benefit from, at least when it comes to interesting interactions with the cast as a whole!

Also, how else could someone like Necrodeus (no offense to Necrodeus fans) split OUR nearly invincible Kirby into ten weaker copies? ...Sounds like an Ancient Artifact at work to me!

Okay So big difference. They aren’t a scientist!

She still has her Doctorate, but ended up teaching High School math instead of working in any scientific fields.

Both of their kids have grown up significantly more!

MK’s in middle school, and Thetin’s off in college!

Yeah. Kev is still a bit of a grumpy gus.

They don’t HATE their job, but they don’t love it either.

Lot of paperwork. And not a huge paycheck.

The are involved in a lot of town stuff, though.

As for the Dark World… holy cow.

I don’t think she would really get it at first, and would be REALLY uncomfortable with everything.

Oh yeah, and I think her, Aesop, and Alphys would probably bumble their way into a dark world together.

In battle, it’s really REALLY hard to get her riled up enough to hit somebody full force.

That being said, she’s a barbarian for a reason.

Get her mad enough and your ass is grass.

I think she really acts as Kev’s foil, keeping them grounded in times of peril.

And with Alphys? Those guys are buddies! I think they both are really interested by dark worlds, and bond over that.

Okay so for starters, she’s a nurse!

She just got out of college, and is working at the hospital.

It’s hella busy but she’s having a decent time.

Her bubbly attitude has mixed reactions from both the people she works with and her Patients. Some love it, some can’t stand her.

I don’t know why, but I think her and Gin fall into a dark world together.

I don’t know how I just think they’d have fun together.

Speaking of which, she’s an absolute CHAOS AGENT in the dark world

I’m talking side quests, accidentally burning shit down, just having a grand old time.

Again, public opinion is really split on her. Some think of her as a brave warrior, and others think she’s an omen of doom. It all depends on how recently she’s burned something down.

But yeah she’s having a good time.

Gaster

Okay full stop, I’m such a sucker for the Knight!Papyrus theory so. Yeah.

While I have my own theories for involving Papyrus in Deltarune, this is ASS!Papyrus! So I get to do what ever I want with this one >:)

Just kidding. Anyway!

I think there’s a couple running around, Kris being one of them (and Dess possibly being another but you didn’t hear it from me 👀)

Anyway.

Him and Sans moved to Home town recently to outrun the law because Gaster got mega fired from his last job.

That being a scientist.

Yeah. You can put the dots together.

Anyway, some way or another, Gaster figured out how to enter the dark world, make fountains, the whole Shibang.

He never had the redemption arc he had over here so. Um. Yeah. He’s still like that.

So intentions for reality as a whole? Probably not the best.

I don’t think he fully understands that he’s dooming the whole world. I think he’s just trying to get control over his life again in the worst way possible.

So yeah he’s. He’s a little fucked up.

Alphys

Okay! Homegirl!

You already know her whole deal in the light world, so I won’t go into it.

IN THE DADK WORLD HOWEVER.

I have. Some thoughts.

First off, she has these badass gauntlets that shoot Lasers out of them.

This scared the shit out of her the first time it happened.

I think she’s also super interested in how a dark world is even possible. Like the science behind it and stuff.

I think she really wants to try and document as much as she can about it but. Can never really get the right equipment down there with out of going all funky.

You being ONE camera down and next thing you know, you accidentally invented a gun.

Her and her gang get along pretty well, I think.

Her group could definitely be considered the most ‘heroic’ out of anybody in this list LMAO

They actually TRY to do quests and shit. Without to much property damage.

She can repair broken items!

But yeah that’s her and I love her.

Sans

Again, you already know his whole lightworld deal.

Convience store owner, local some guy, etc.

His relationship with Gaster is a LOT more strained over here (which is saying a lot)

He’s worried about why he rarely comes out of his room, but he’s also kind of pissed at him for just. Everything going down in their lives now.

This is amplified slightly in the dark world where he’s just like “I’m sorry you knew about this for how long? And you did what now???”

But then he drops it because he’s sans and non confrontational fndndndmd

Yeah he’s a bard.

He’s got a long trumpet thing that’s bigger than he is.

It is exclusively used for meme songs.

He kind of follows Gasted around because he doesn’t really know what else to do and is just kind of mildly horrified by it all.

Gets great gigs tho, creating intricate poems about the epic deeds of heroes such as “Suc Adic” and “Alloto Dix”

Gin

Yeah okay so this one’s fun.

Them and Alphys used to be roommates but ended up having a falling out and haven’t really talked since.

Gin ended up moving to the city, where they became one of those Bus Tour guides.

It’s not their dream job or anything but… well. It’ll have to do.

So they do that and all that jazz, but it doesn’t really pay the bills.

So they’re kind of forced to return to the town they grew up in to try and find something that will work.

And guess what! They end up meeting CG and have a ton of fun adventures in a Dark World!!

Out of the two of them, Gin is definetly the more chaotic one.

They would live in the Dark World if they could.

They have a similar deal to Gaster where the Dark World is just. It’s a better alternative to their life and it just sucks man.

They really, really hate that.

But yeah they’re mostly a force of good, if you don’t mind a bit of property damage while they’re at it!

some ramblings, appreciating deltarunes "layers" of story/lore

I might have already written something about this before, but something that I really love about deltarune is that it's a game that (from what we can tell) has several different layers to the story that are all enjoyable, for different... levels of players to enjoy! Like, you have the upfront stuff, about oh, dark worlds, the knight, and kris' soul (protagonist vs player and such) but its mostly just some young teenagers goofing off going to fantasy worlds and learning some self improvement then you go a tad bit deeper, still things most people may ask and you have... well what the hecks up with dark worlds logistically, why is ralsei, and what dark worlds represent (escapism woah), and for some, secret bosses expanding on the whole free will + kris' soul shenanigans thats where it may end for most people, and i think thats great, that if you arent someone in extreme brainrot about the history of gaster then... i think the game will be very enjoyable without having to think about meta elements! and of course, as good writing tends to be, hints about one "level above" are slowly dropped to those who are below, to help them understand, but you get what im saying, right? its like, big nerds get thinking about the gaster shit earlier, before the game really is gonna start probably hammering in like hey whats up with that voice at the beginning

I do question whether dess will end up being about as secret as like, jevil is, or as secret as the man behind the tree and the mystery of the eggs is. but i feel like shes also a realy good opportunity for being a mystery thats almost entirely deltarune, without needing prior-context of who a random vaguely mentioned character in ut is. still, a lot of vague info is hidden in the files, so perhaps... hmm, well, there was that one abc_123 file where toby was like "don't share stuff from the files, thanks. you cant have secrets nowadays" and then.. i feel like when he changed it to just be laughter, that was his way of saying "alright, i see the game you want to play. ill play along" and thats why... for some people, hes playing the game of hiding mysterious stuff in the code. he knows what hes doing, of course. he knows people love looking in the games code, so hes trying to make it interesting even if people do that overall though i just like how theres different levels of enjoyment of the story so far. im sure the game will end up telling everyone about dess and gaster and such, in some way, but... for most people? itll be a game about the fun gang and their friends learning to become better people, and having some fun wacky adventures on the way there! tldr toby fox does "having different layers to your story" in a fairly interesting, enjoyable way. EDIT: yeah, ill make a v2 of this post. i more specifically am amazed at how you dont NEED to know the deeper layers than you want to, and its. cool !!

we spent a long time talking about weed and shadow the hedgehog

inferno pops out of eeby deeby by tori oh no. frog says hi. tori is cursing at this lol. frog shows sunnie inferno's cat. suzy tackles him lol. frog introduces inferno to sunnie. inferno pretends to not know sunnie xD suzy says he told her to beat up sunnie. inferno got a 22 to deceive but sunnie also got a 22 wtf. sunnie trusts the kids more xD tori and sunnie just give each other a look.

suzy bites inferno for covering her mouth. clamped down lol. he manages to escape tho! tori says she normally tries to stop suzy but not when it involves inferno. inferno flips her off lol. cam goes eeby deeby. sunnie asks tori what inferno did, so much my guy.

dess and dans are still getting high. talking about how fucked up eeby deeby is. dess mentions another storage and freaks dans out. 'dess are you ok?' 'what do you think?' 'i think no but i wont push.' dans asks why dess joined this weird journey and she says she has a contract. cause of tall ass creepy elf man. cant talk about it cause contract stuff maybe lol. dans peeks in the bathroom on undyne shes snoring up a storm. he says his lawyer could help dess get out of her contract xD his lawyer is gaster and hes a nerd. dess says "oh 2 of them thats weird." suzy is poking inferno lol. run away inferno! sunnie asks if thats normal xD tori asks if sunnie is in town long. not long just research. inferno is still running from suzy lol. frog makes sunnie put them on his shoulders. sunnie is ghost hunting? he doesnt believe in ghosts tho like wtf xD frog says cam got possessed by a ghost lol. sunnies like what?! tori's like yeah lol. sunnie is also a flat earther nooooooo!

as dess and dans hang out undyne starts sleep walking and broke the bathtub. dans tries to lead her toward the bed and she fucking smacks him wtf. dess throws a snowball in her face to wake her up. doesnt work and she barrels toward dess. dess tries to restrain undyne with magic but since shes high it turns into wild magic lol. dess is blue now oh no and undyne slams into her and they fall over.

group 1 arrives at the hotel. sunnie pats frog on the head he was glad to meet them. tori asks if theyll see him tomorrow. suppose they will! tori sends the kids upstairs. inferno follows. they see undyne outcold ontop of a blue dess. dans is trying to pull her off dess. she wakes up finally. shes so confused lol. dess shuffles away lol. dans hands her some water. he tells her she was sleepwalking and smacked him in the nose for a nosebleed lol. and destroyed the bathtub. inferno says tori wont let us go to a haunted house. dess calls undyne a murder slut xD dans tells inferno theres a soap cart at the end of the hall lol then removes dess blue curse.

tori comes up and is very concerned. dans asks how brother time was and dess takes it the wrong way and then walks into a wall. cam pops out of eeby deeby by dess with an egg in their mouth xD dans catches tori up on what happaned with them. suzy and frog ask tori what cannabis is xD ask again in 10 years.

we long rest and frog is very energetic and they want to see sunnie. breakfast first kiddo. dess tells frog cannabis is a plant lol. cam says dess really likes quests. undynes got a headache and dess picks up frog from jumping on her. dess says she saw frog die 40 times or so. like girl what. tori of course really hates that. after breakfast frog runs out and starts asking people where the haunted house is.

“You are such a scaredy-goat, Asriel. Lighten up, will you?” Dess Holiday punched his arm with a snicker. “It’s just a bunker.”

“I am not scared, I just think your parents are going to want you home soon– we’ve been out kind of long, haven’t we?” Asriel tugged his thick winter coat a little closer to him.

“Sounds like a scaredy goat,” Kris joked with Dess.

“See? Even Krismas supports me. I mean– I get Noelle being all skittish, but you, Azzy? Oh my wounded heart,” Dess sighed dramatically. Kris snickered. Asriel rolled his eyes.

“Well someone should watch Noelle anyways,” He said, looking down at the smaller deer by his side.

“H-hey, I’m not scared either,” Noelle huffed in defiance. She had told herself she was going to be brave tonight– it was the whole reason she agreed to go out with Dess, Asriel and Kris and not stay inside helping with Christmas Dinner. She wanted an adventure– she always had (despite always getting scared and crying). 

“Is that so?” Dess said, pulling out the bolt cutters from Kris’ backpack, then snapping the single lock on the bunker door. The sound pierced Noelle’s ears, causing her to jump behind Asriel. 

“Noelle, stay with Asriel, you’ll be fine and safe with him.” Her older sister gave her a comforting wink– a wink she often used as a way to say “I’m not judging, you do you”. 

Noelle was really fond of that wink. 

 Dess then turned her attention to Kris with a grin. “Me and Kris’ll just have all the fun, isn’t that right Krismas?” Dess elbowed her little partner in crime.

“Yeah! Me and Dess’ll have all the fun,” They crossed their arms with a smug smile. Noelle laughed, as Kris’s antics tended to do every now and then. 

“Take my flashlight, Kris. And if anything goes wrong, just holler, alright?” Asriel reached into his own backpack and handed Kris the flashlight within. Kris nodded.

“Azzy, relax. It’s an abandoned bunker– it’s probably just from Y2K or the Cold War or something– relax,” Dess tugged open the rusted metal doors with an ear piercing shriek, made extra difficult by all the snow.

Asriel rolled his eyes. “Don’t take too long either, or else I’m gonna have to go get hot cocoa and then you’ll also be all on your own explaining to mom what took you so long.”

“Better get on it then,” Dess winked at Asriel and flashed Noelle a quick smile before going into the darkness.

And then it was just the two of them. 

“So… wanna build a snow monster?” Asriel asked, kicking the snow with his foot. 

Noelle shrugged, her eyes still glued to the heavy doors. She could hear Kris and Dess’s voices echo a little bit. It made Noelle a little jealous…

“I dunno… They won’t be too long, right?” Noelle asked. 

“Aren’t you Dess’s sister? Why are you asking me all the questions?” Asriel laughed. 

“Well you’ve technically known her longer,” Noelle said, going to a good patch of snow, deciding to build a snow monster after all. 

“I guess you got me there,” Asriel joined her. 

The pair chatted for a bit as they built about one, two, three snow monsters before Noelle’s ears twitched as she heard a scream– but it turns out it was the iron doors coming closed. 

“Something wrong?” Asriel asked. 

“The doors just closed,” Noelle pointed. 

Asriel frowned, standing up and pulling on the handle of the bunker. 

It opened easily. 

“Wow, some deep bunker– gotta be World War II,” Asriel tried looking around, but decided to close it when he saw a few too many spiderwebs. “Dess and Kris’ll be fine, especially because Dess broke the chain. Plus, if they can’t get out, we’ll open it for them,” Asriel said, going back to the snow monster. 

Weird how a door goes from screeching to easy to open…

Noelle continued working on the snow monster before she started to shiver– the cold finally getting to her. 

“Hey– you wanna stop by the diner real quick for some cocoa to go? They’re always open on Christmas, last I checked,” Asriel offered his hand to help Noelle up. 

“Alright,” Noelle agreed before adding– “So long as it's quick.” 

“Oh please, I’m basically a celebrity to them– Son of the Chief of the Police has its perks,” Asriel popped his sweater like he was “cool-stuff”, as Rudy liked to put it. 

Together they made their way towards the dinner, with Asriel immediately chatting up the waitress behind the bar, while Noelle stared out the window. 

A perfect layer of snow covered Hometown– sparkling white though not too blinding, as the sky was perfectly cloudy to prevent that. Noelle couldn’t help but smile at the scene– the month of December always made her so happy. Christmas always added a little something special too. 

Maybe she’d be able to talk Dess into walking around town– maybe even just the two of them. That’d be nice– it felt like it’d been awhile since they’d had some good sister bonding time. Dess was always so busy with highschool now– and it wasn’t like mom made it easy. She was always strict with her– Dess wasn’t exactly the best student. Mom always made her study when she was home, which was why Dess often tried to hang out with Asriel, often without telling Noelle. 

She sighed. Dess probably didn’t know what she was doing– but it hurt sometimes. But that only filled her with the determination to ask to hang out some more before heading back even more. 

“Ready to head back?” Asriel handed Noelle her cup. Noelle took a good whiff- getting excited when she smelled the extra extra cinnamon. 

“You remembered,” She grinned. 

“You and Kris are a lot more alike than I think you realize,” Asriel waved goodbye to the waitress before opening the door for Noelle as they went out into the cold. 

Asriel made small talk about how her classes were going, and Noelle asked similarly about how his were going to– until Noelle’s ears perked once again. 

“Jesus– who’s making such a– c’mon– but stay behind me,” Asriel squinted to try and find the sound. Asriel certainly didn’t have to ask Noelle twice though, as she instantly went behind him, gripping her cup anxiously as they picked up the pace and walked down the straight line to the bunker. 

Noelle frowned when she looked up– the clouds had gone from perfect to stormy rather quickly. 

However, she didn’t focus on that for long, as the sound they heard became clearer and clearer– and before they knew it, there was Kris– bloody knuckled, burnt and banging on the door shouting and crying unintelligible sounds. Asriel dropped his cocoa in an instant to attend to his sibling, leaving Noelle frozen, practically a deer in headlights. 

“Kris–! What the hell-?! Are you okay? You’re hurt– what the hell is going on?” Asriel tried shouting above Kris, but they remained unresponsive. Eventually Noelle saw Asriel close his eyes and grab his sibling, who kicked and scratched and demanded to be let go before they got them stable over their shoulder. 

“C-c’mon,” Was all he said to Noelle as he passed, and Noelle looked back at the bunker one more time before following. 

Kris kept screaming and kicking and crying the entire way to the hospital, not even looking at Noelle or realizing they were being carried by their brother. 

“Kris, where’s Dess? Why wasn’t she with you?” She eventually blurted. 

Kris’ screams stopped, now completely turning to sobs. They now hugged Asriel’s arms and cried and cried and cried. 

“A-asriel? Did you see her?” Noelle tried not to stare– it felt rude. Kris didn’t cry– ever. 

Asriel didn’t answer. 

Noelle tossed her almost full cocoa in a trashcan. 

It started to rain sleet as they headed into the hospital and Asriel spoke to the front desk lady. Noelle stared out the window as the perfect snow became covered in dirt and mud, fiddling with her sweater as she didn’t dare speak. 

She followed perfectly silent as they took Kris to a room and started giving them treatments for the burns and bandaging their knuckles. She stayed by Kris’s side when Asriel couldn’t take it anymore and went to make a call to his parents. 

Where was Dess?

Noelle knew she should be more worried about her friend, as they were indeed very hurt, but where was Dess???

Noelle didn’t get to think in semi-silence for long though– as before she felt like she could blink, Toriel and Asgore had burst in and were asking a billion questions about Kris very, very loudly. The Dreemurr’s were usually very quiet folks, but when they were loud, they were loud. 

Asgore must’ve noticed Noelle was sitting there in the corner chair after about eight minutes because he sat down right next to her and smiled. 

“I have a surprise for you,” He said, handing her a red and Kris a yellow one– straight from their home garden. 

“Thanks, Officer Dreemurr,” Noelle rubbed a thorn with her thumb, slightly cringing when it unsurprisingly proved itself to be sharp. 

“It’s no problem at all, Noelle. Unlike ol’ Tori here, I know how to de-escalate a situation,” He winked. 

Noelle could tell Kris hated the joke– though she could see Toriel hated it even more as she gave him the death stare. 

“Could I speak to both Dreemurr parents?” The nurse eventually said, going to a corner and then whispering a few things Noelle didn’t particularly care to focus on. 

Red wasn’t Noelle’s favorite color– she much preferred green. Red was always more Dess’s color– and it suited her very well. 

Where was Dess?

Gasps from the corner, before anxious looks and then leaving the room. 

Noelle was the only one who remained. 

“Kris…” She eventually croaked, looking up at them. 

Their eyes were scared– terrified, even. 

It made Noelle scared too. 

“I… Is Dess still… there?” She eventually gained the strength to ask. 

When Kris nodded slightly, that was all Noelle needed. 

Her eyes remained glued to the ground for a long while. The doctors and Dreemurr’s shuffled back in after not too long, and Noelle didn’t even look up when she tugged on Asgore’s sleeve. 

“Oh– Howdy, Noelle. What can I do you for?” He smiled at her. 

“...Can we talk outside?” She whispered. Asgore must’ve understood the severity and took her hand as he stood up. 

Being outside the room felt no better, as the searingly bright white paint mixed with Christmas decorations everywhere kind of hurt her eyes. 

“Want to tell me what’s going through that head of yours?” Asgore placed a big, fluffy hand on her shoulder. “Oh! And if this is about why your folks aren’t here yet, it’s because ol’ Carol said she was going to make sure the ham didn’t burn and Rudy was taking a nap upstairs– your mother said she’d tell him when he woke up.”

Ah– well, Noelle supposed that was a question on her mind– though not the biggest. 

“I-it’s about Dess. Kris was with her, exploring the underground bunker way south, a-and when we went back only Kris was there and they were screaming and pounding against the door– A-and I think my sister is trapped down there, a-and I’m really, really scared,” Noelle started to cry. Asgore quickly wrapped her in one of the Dreemurr’s famous ‘Boss Hugs’ before setting her down. 

“Don’t worry, I’ll call up the squad and fire department and we’ll get looking for her right away,” He made sure she was looking him in the eye when he said that. 

“You can just wait here for your parents to get you, does that sound good?” He wiped away one of her tears with his thumb.

Noelle nodded, but that was a lie– she wanted to go with. She wasn’t scared of that bunker anymore– Dess was there– she was going to run in and find her sister and hug her and then they’d spend the rest of the day together– and then it would all be perfect and safe. 

Asgore told Noelle to go sit in the lobby for her parents– said it’d be less crowded and she could play with some of those toys that seemed to be in every hospital lobby in existence– while he went back in and told his family he wouldn’t be home for dinner. 

Noelle obeyed a little bit– choosing to sit in a chair by the bead maze, though she felt she couldn’t play with it if she wanted to. 

It was a special Christmas bead maze– red and green squares and circles were strung along green and red wires. The kid before her had separated all the reds and greens though– and when Noelle glanced on the floor, she could even see one red was broken and on the ground. 

Nope– Noelle stayed sitting. 

She was too old for baby toys like that anyway. 

She saw Asgore leave and head towards the station out of the corner of her eye. She remained sitting a minute though, just to make sure no one was watching her. No one was, and so she got up and headed out– though was halted immediately when she bumped into someone, causing her to fall backward. 

“Oh-! Sorry– didn’t see you ther– Noelle? What are you doing? I thought Asgore told you to stay inside?” Her father said, closing his umbrella, carefully stepping over her so the door could close. 

“W-well, I was just gonna get some fresh air,” She lied. 

“Noelle, it’s freezing rain out there,” Rudy helped her to her feet (or hooves, more accurately). “What were you really doing?” 

Noelle still couldn’t look up. Jesus– it was like even if she wanted to, the floor was somehow the most interesting thing in the world– which it certainly wasn’t. 

“Here, how’s about I take you home and make you a nice cup of tea, wouldn’t that be nice?” Rudy must’ve been smiling at her because his voice always sounded different when he smiled. 

“I want to find Dess,” The seven-year-old eventually spoke. 

Rudy was silent, before kneeling down. “I want Dess to be okay too. I’m just as scared as you are, trust me, but right now what’s best for you and for Dess is making sure you’re also safe and taken care of, alright?” 

Noelle didn’t like the sound of that. Why should she get to be safe and warm if Dess was lost underground? And why was only dad– No, that made sense… 

Noelle hugged her father, who quickly hugged her back. He also slowly stood up, shifting the hug to a carry, and he opened the door of the hospital– immediately greeting them with facefuls of freezing rain. Rudy muttered to himself as he managed to open his umbrella again with one hand and headed homeward. 

By the time they got home, both were fairly soaked and shivering, taking off their winter coats and sitting by the fireplace that had still been going. 

“That you, Rudy?” Her mother’s voice called from the kitchen, causing a heavy feeling to settle in Noelle’s stomach. 

“Yep-er-doodle!” He replied, attempting to lighten the mood. It didn’t work for Noelle though, as she just stared into the flames. 

Rudy decided to give Noelle some space, leaving to talk to Carol. Meanwhile, Noelle tried really, really hard to hold back tears, which she had been doing successfully, minus the slip-up with Asgore. 

“What do you mean Dess wasn’t there?! Well where is she? God– you let a teenager go for five seconds–”  Rudy had clearly broken the news. 

“Carol, Noelle is still in the other room. And it was an accident– god, you should’ve seen Kris…” Her father’s tone went hushed, but Noelle could still hear (she always thought she had impeccable hearing). 

“That Kris is always getting themselves hurt– what did Dess do this time though?” Her mother sighed dramatically, setting down a tray to emphasize her point. 

“They explored the abandoned bunker– something must’ve been screwy down there. Kris was all burnt and had bloody knuckles and stuff.”

Her mother went silent after that. 

“Well… I hope she’s alright. God knows it's difficult enough to balance the stress of a campaign already.” 

Noelle slumped over in her chair. She glanced outside and it had basically turned into a freezing rain blizzard/storm? 

Noelle started pondering going outside when the phone ringing distracted her. 

“Holiday residence, Carol speaking… Yes… mm… I-... Ah… Toriel, you and I both–... yes I know… I know… You mean Asgore canceled?... I don’t know either… best hope he doesn’t get frostbite out there you know… yes yes… mhm… Well, I suppose there’s always next year… Yes, I know. Goodbye, Toriel.” 

Her mother mumbled something as she hung up. 

“Dinner is canceled.” 

Was she really surprised? Why would she want dinner to continue– why–? just–?

Noelle didn’t understand her mother. 

Her parents continued talking in hushed tones, and Noelle didn’t feel like continuing to eavesdrop. Instead, she went upstairs and changed out of her slightly soaked clothes into something much drier, more water/snow resistant, and much warmer than before. She stopped before hse left her room to listen to footsteps, but her parents were still in the kitchen– meaning she’d be fine leaving out the front door if she was extra quiet. 

Carefully she crept and crept and crept down the stairs, using those carefully sharp ears of hers to listen for her parents, and before she knew it she was slowly (and shakily) turning the door knob and quietly closing the door too. 

The freezing rain really picked up now– but Noelle didn’t care, running out and into the woods as fast as she could– figuring it’d be easier to go that way than all out in the open– plus if she went diagonally she’d get there much quicker. 

She was as careful as she could to not trip over roots or slide on ice, her anger and desperation making her ignore every time she did. She didn’t care that after five minutes her face felt numb and her legs were on fire– she was going to help them find Dess. 

Dess owed her. They were going to walk together– spend sister bonding time together– S-sure Noelle hadn’t brought it up and she hadn’t promised anything like that– but Noelle was going to make it happen anyways. 

Sure, she was absolutely terrified, the sun was setting, freezing rain was falling, she couldn’t see the ground, but dammit she was going to find her sister. 

…If she didn’t get lost. 

Thankfully, she didn’t. She arrived at the bunker and all but ran for it, but stopped when she noticed they were— leaving? The cops were leaving? Was Dess there?!

Noelle looked frantically for her sister amongst the crowd, more and more frustrated the longer it took. 

She eventually shouted: “Dess!!! I’m right here!!!” on the top of her lungs. 

This caught Asgore’s attention. 

“Noelle! What are you doing out here?! It’s freezing– you should be home!” Asgore said, grabbing her arm. Noelle broke free furiously. 

“Where’s Dess?! You were supposed to find her!” 

Asgore sighed and closed his eyes. 

“Noelle… the bunker was empty and shallow. There was a trap door with a single room, and Dess wasn’t there.” 

No… no– no, no no! That couldn’t be true!

“That’s not what we saw! Asriel and I– there was a big huge cave! A-and they went in and then the doors shut and we got cocoa and– Y-you’re a liar!” She shouted at him, stomping on his foot as hard as she could, making a break for the bunker, nearly slipping on the ice. 

Immediately she swung the door open, and–

A small room with dead grass, cobwebs and a dim light bulb greeted her– a small brown wooden hatch probably led to the Bunker. Noelle rushed to open it, but the police had put a bunch of padlocks on it. She tried kicking them, biting them, smashing them with a rock– nothing worked. 

“Noelle, you really should–” 

“Y-you don’t know what I saw! I-it wasn’t like this– it was big a-and dark a-and scary! I wouldn't be scared of this!!” Hot tears started to fall down Noelle’s face again. She quickly wiped them away and faced the wall of the bunker, banging against it. 

“Come on you stupid wall!! Give me back my sister!!!” She shouted before kicking it– which was a horrible idea, as she immediately cringed in pain. 

It was then Noelle started using every swear word Dess and Kris had ever taught her as she began shouting and screaming for Dess to come back here right now and that she wasn’t playing a game and that Kris was really freaked out and that she was really freaked out and–

Asgore picked her up like how Asriel had picked up Kris– but this time she was quickly put down. 

“Noelle Holiday– what are you doing out here?! I thought you were still by the fireplace!!” 

Her father had found out after all.

Noelle tried to cease her crying, but when her eyes met her father’s she just collapsed into the snow, weeping like a little baby. 

Rudy wrapped her in his arms, but Noelle at first pushed him away, pouding exhausted fists against his chest, asking “why” over and over and over and over and over again. 

Why? Why why why why why why why?! How was this fair!!! Where was Dess?! The bunker hadn’t been like that– how?! How did Dess just disappear?!!! Dess never just disappeared– well, except– but this wasn’t like that– no matter what Mom might say. 

Rudy just sat there and hugged her, rocking ever so slightly, while Asgore held the umbrella. Noelle fought every bit of exhaustion with fury. She had to find Dess– she just had to. 

She didn’t know when her father picked her up, but she was suddenly in the back of Asgore’s cop car, wrapped in a blanket, snuggled against her father, being driven away from that awful, awful place. 

Rudy stroked her hair as they sat. He tried making a joke about how he “never thought he’d be arrested with his daughter” and how he “demanded a lawyer” but it did nothing to make any of them laugh or feel better. 

“Noelle… I’m sorry I wasn’t there to pick you up sooner…” Rudy whispered to her. Noelle snuggled closer to him. 

“I-i’m also sorry that I-i don’t know what to say. I-i… I don’t even know what to think yet– I…” Rudy had to take a breath. 

“We’ll find Dess eventually, I know we will.” 

“I know we will.” 

Promises. 

Noelle didn’t want to believe in it– just in case it just got her hurt again, but she was tired. She just wanted to lay here and close her eyes forever…

“God– I miss her so much already…”

Noelle wasn’t sure if he meant to say that out loud or for her to hear, but Noelle managed a simple

“Me too…” 

Before closing her eyes, accepting the exhaustion and falling asleep.

this is referencing the dark worlds, and talking about "the places that you know" means that the listener is a lightner. i think it's unlikely that the singer is talking to us, the player, because we're not the one going to the dark world in real life. geddit

snowgrave reference 😨 since the soul was mentioned we can Assume that the singer is talking to kris, cause their soul is pretty important lol. the light could be referring to the player, or just to the fact that souls naturally glow!!! but yeah their soul is shining in the cold. probably telling deers to kill people or whatever lights inside souls do

the player COULD make sense but what have we promised in our hearts. to take care of kris? we were literally thrown into their body without our consent SMH MY HEAD!!

he is with kris in the dark, almost acting as a sort of guide to them. they could have made a promise in their hearts (so that's why, ok, kris?) while we weren't looking. and about the "truth", HE definitely knows something we don't, and could have probably told kris. the promise might also just be referring to the legend slash prophecy slash lullaby. that's all

side note i've seen some theories about dess singing this to noelle but it sounds too. high and mighty??? to be a sister singing something to you type of song. idk how to explain it?? the promise in our hearts especially is like. entrusting you with this great power!!!! also, the light in your soul shining in the cold, how would she know about snowgrave... also also while noelle is a main character. kris is the protagonist. and she wasn't fully important until chapter 2. the song's leitmotif was EVERYWHERE in chapter one, if it was related to noelle we'd hear it next to her more often you know...

this is just a theory, i don't think i'm the only one who gets it or whatever, if you have any counter evidence for this feel free to prove me wrong!! maybe dess singing it makes more sense and i'm just stupid lol. tell me your thoughts...

oh and i think the easiest way to find out for sure who's singing this might be by looking up the japanese translation and seeing who uses what pronouns for who etc but i don't know anything about japanese so this is all i can do.

Could you talk about Toriel and Carol’s relationship in your au? How did they end up married? Seems interesting!

yeah!!! this is one of those things where i think i first was like 'wouldnt this be funny' and then thought about it a little too hard and oh no im invested now.

basically, i knew from the start that rudy would be dead here...not sure WHEN exactly he dies, but i think it wasnt that far after dess and kris being presumed dead...maybe a year or so later. the loss of them both was just wayyy too much and since monsters partly hold on by hope its like. that breaks a man. the dreemurr divorce is also a LOT more bitter, here, since there's the loss of their youngest child to deal with. all that to say toriel and carol would turn to each other!! since they both lost their children in the same way, and then both lost their husbands, and eventually that becomes a relationship.

theyre ALSO together because i knew from the start the two families were going to be close (asriel is Very Much noelle's older brother) and making the moms married is just the logical conclusion from there lol. i think its good to put them together 'cause it also means i can further explore the theme of parents with noelle, too! the way i see it, carol actually sold the holiday house because losing dess + rudy so soon after each other was really hard on her, and the way she deals with her feelings is by pretending they dont exist and pushing through. and so for her, selling the house is like, leaving that part of her life behind. then it can't hurt her. so she has to plan everything out and shes VERY hard on noelle because she cannot lose noelle because noelle is sort of all she has left in the world.

noelle is very bitter about this. like her mom never cared about dess and rudy at all. and now doesnt love her, because she lost the actual family members she loved, and noelle is just the worst one she was left with. yes the holiday women have so many issues they refuse to talk out with each other.

with toriel its a lot easier to tell that she does love and care about noelle, but! this! manifests! in being super overprotective! which noelle ALSO hates!!! she cannot win. plus the moms do tend to side with each other (bc tori + carol know what page the other is on when the kids Never Do), so for noelle its like. her mom hates her and toriel never takes her side so like. what is she supposed to do with that?

in regards for the family structure, asriel's already 18 when carol and toriel get married so he doesn't consider carol his mom and probably still calls her 'aunt carol,' mayyyybe he uses 'stepmom' if talking about her to someone else but she's been his aunt his entire childhood so i think thats what sticks. aka he probably only uses 'stepmom' if he wants to quickly get across that she's married to his mom, otherwise he describes her as his aunt. he 100% sees noelle as his little sister. noelle usually just calls toriel 'toriel' (so she drops the 'aunt') and would use 'stepmom' when talking about her to other people. like asriel, she 100% sees him as her older brother.

they hyphenate their last names so its 'holiday-dreemurr.' noelle has this last name, asriel might just stick with dreemurr?? i honestly dont know lol. he lives with them but again. hes an adult when they get married.

annnnnd thats all i have on them so far! when i get into the writing of this i'll probably do a lot of little test-scenes for all these dynamics, lol, but i'm a bit far out for now. the two test-scenes i wrote were 'cause i Had To or else i would explode.

Speaking of Deltarune, i dunno if you've talked about it before but What's your general opinion on Papyrus' role in DR? i've ben thinking about this a lot after it came to my attention how much of a mystery he really is. The thought that he could be the knight is both kinda funny and kinda scary (also and correct me if im wrong, but if DR's story was here before UT was made, i can imagine Toby going "hehe what if i made Papyrus (my antagonist) a goofy comic relief in this)

ok anyway. even though it's taken me several months to answer this. i'm so glad you asked!

there's a lot about papyrus that's shrouded in mystery - namely the sheer amount of power he seems to have compared to the rest of the cast and the evolution of his relationship with flowey over the timelines. it makes logical sense that deltarune will elaborate on what undertale only hinted at, but like.

the theory that he's the knight doesn't click with me. if someone wants to explain where this conclusion is being drawn from, i'd love to hear it! because - and no offense - it just feels like the title of The Knight is being slung onto him solely because he's a powerful character we kind of don't know a lot about (but that's like 85% of the cast at this point..) and we have yet to see him. i won't write it off entirely because who knows what will happen with this game, but i do very much doubt that the insight deltarune will give us into papyrus's character will be through him being. The Knight.

my personal thoughts on the knight's identity are, like... among these possibilities:

the knight is a character we haven't even been introduced to yet

there is no singular knight and it's simply a role that anyone can take on. the darkners' concept of The Knight is an amalgamation of every person who has opened a fountain ever

there is no knight. like at all. this is on a similar vein of the above bullet: because it's just a conceptual role, there just is no fucking knight 👍🏾

it really Is kris, and this reveal was made in Chapter Two because the identity of the knight is ultimately inconsequential in comparison to the concepts and plot points future chapters will introduce.

perhaps i just have a very particular and even incorrect interpretation/assumption of what the knight's role in this game will be. but at the moment, i'm not going to be easily swayed from these ^ theories. so.. as cool and kinda funny as it Could be, no knight papyrus in this house. it doesn't make sense. to me. with how i've come to understand the knight (which is to say i barely understand the knight at all because we literally barely have any tangible info about it).

(oh but even if he is the knight, i don't think this would make him the narrative's antagonist. i don't think deltarune is going to have a conventional protagonist VS protagonist set-up, period. also i wouldn't call papyrus in undertale a comic relief. does him quite a bit of injustice i think ^^')

i'm not even wholly convinced that the build-up around papyrus won't be some sort of red herring. like, yeah i think he'll play a fairly substantial role (maybe. my initial assumption from chapter 1 was that when we do finally get to hang out with papyrus, he'll just be like. normal. like sans is. and nothing ever happens with him. and i'm not writing this possibility out yet afgngkjf), but not necessarily to the extent that people are assuming. i think there's a lot of other weird shit in hometown that no one is paying attention to because the "a trousle.. growing further away..." flavor text is so fucking distracting. and i think that's on purpose. we're so focused on what we already know from undertale and drawing those connections that everything new and unique to deltarune is kinda flying over our heads. like honestly i personally don't give a damn about papyrus rn (I LOVE HIM BUT) i'm more concerned with, like:

whatever the hell is happening with onionsan and the song they're hearing

the fucking caution tape

hometown's religion in general honestly

I'll ALWAYS be a sucker for narrachara. I don't have any real thoughts on who the narrator in deltarune is (if it even is someone else and not just Kris' inner thoughts), but for undertale it'll never be anyone but chara to me.

Flowey is wrong about being soulless making you lose the ability to feel - he's just numb and traumatised, on top of also conflating a lack of empathy with Never Feeling Anything Ever. I have a whole big post on this one lol

Noelle and Dess are the sisters from the wishing room - some of the flowers in a back and forth conversation specifically have both refer to each other as 'sister'/'sis' and I think they fit the convo pretty well. I've got a big post on this too 😂

The 'man who came from the other world' being sans, and the other world being deltarune, with the 'don't forget' drawing being of the fun gang. I was very firmly in the 'sans undertale is a darkner' camp before deltarune chapter 2 came out and no longer find that part feasible, but I still think it's possible he's from deltarune. It's pretty interesting and there's still a slight possibility it could get canonised one day 👀

Sans and Alphys being lab partners. Pretty sure there's a lot of evidence to back up him canonically having been down to see the amalgamates at some point at least, but it going further than that is a nice thought. I mostly see people depicting him working with gaster but his friendship w alphys is important and can be explored with the evidence we have too :) Sans also talks about 'our research' when discussing timelines in his fight and I think it'd be neat if that research was done with alphys, y'know?
