so. it’s an ungodly hour of the night and i just did A Thing.

presenting: first chapter of my very-long-in-the-making-without-all-that-much-progress multi chapter fic. it’s set post-gof, harry takes control of his life etc etc and is supposed to have a lot of harry-sirius bonding (though our fav black doesn’t show up for a few more chapters yet). it’s a bit all over the place in my drafts so far but, i’m trying, and i’m hoping. very nerve wracking, very intimidating, starting a longfic. haven’t done it in years.

Uh homestuck review type thingy before i go to bed.

reading homestuck has definitely been a trip. having to deal with and figure out how to work with some signs of old internet age, despite using the collection. trying to download some kind of app only for it to work worse than the main one. having to go to the original site as some of the more special links didn't work on the unofficial collection. having to sync up music. all these and probably more I had to deal with to read homestuck. definitely got me more invested ill tell you that much! liked a decent chunk of the humor, disliked another decent chunk of it as well, am neutral on other jokes n' such. some of the stuff early on doesn't age well but it gets better the farther you get in. the 4th wall stuff and all the non main story stuff swung a pendulum (hekekkek) between very fun and enjoyable to grading and annoying. I liked most of the characters though a few I wish got more screentime and interactions and a few I wish were a bit less president in some parts. the "shipping" stuff was inherently confusing and at times annoying for me, nothing stable, often felt like some pairings, both friend and relation ship, could be in the forefront in one part but then completely dissipate over a timeskip. though i will admit i did get somewhat interested at around the end when things were starting to get more stable. (favorite pairings friendship or relationship go as follows: terezi and dave. some of my favorite characters with a great dynamic, really wish they got to interact more, even after the offscreen hook up and break up. > Rose and Kanaya. great solid pairing to the end! also could have used a bit more time for development, but overall better off than most. they work really well as a dynamic duo. > John and Vriska. eh I could take or leave the relationship but I did like their friendship and wish their interactions didn't end so abruptly as they did) Speaking of confusing things, time travel. I feel like that and the fact that this is a early to mid 2010s webcomic should clue you in to how confusing this aspect can be at times.

Overall thoughts: I liked quite a bit of it, though I also disliked a decent few chunks of it. unlike most things I cant quite say I'm neutral on homestuck. not actively positive, yet not actively negative. but I still have some feelings on the thing, I just cant really make them out as the line between "thing I like enough to start putting the characters in situations" and "thank goodness I'm finally done with this piece of crap". Would I recommend reading it, even if you get it working better than I can? no, not at all. Did I enjoy reading it? other than a few issues, Yes! it was fun to read and experience, a real bit of ancient internet history and time capsule from right around the time i was first exploring the internet as a wee unknowing child of roughly 7-13. despite not going around that area much at the time, it still felt a bit nostalgic reading an mspaint internet comic from that era. an enjoyable romp threw a time before the internet was as part of daily life as it is today, while not quite being from back from the dawn of the thing. Reading homestuck definitely had me in awe with hindsight at times with finding out how deep its roots were in the internet. I will never roam the internet the same way again. but i think I've rattled on about homestuck being stuck in that sweet spot of old internet for too long so ill try and give my summarizing words here without going off on side rambles for too long, its like 2:30 am and i should probably try and get my sleep schedule back after having it messed up for like a week. (thank you eternally obnoxious BRAIN. and to a lesser extent the new world of warcraft expansion and homestuck cliffhangers)

Summary of sorts: I wouldn't call homestuck "good" but I wouldn't call it "bad" either. It is confusing, annoying and doesn't work half the time but when it does it oozes with charm, humorous bits that can crack open the core of anyone who likes older memes and internet humor and great music that gets stuck in playlists but not in your head. (in a good way) I would not recommend reading it as it takes time, effort and patience for a variety of things as well as a high tolerance for a bunch of stuff I'm getting to tired to mention. but i am glad I experienced it and I doubt you would too if you did dropkick my and many others warnings into a ditch and read the accursed thing. heck your on tumblr, you probably already accustomed to humor like that in homestuck! I don't know how to finish this so here's a funny skeleton gif to tide yall over as I go spellcheck everything and go write the tags.

Like I think they rely on telepathy or vibes too much, neither of them are mind readers... so much of their conflict these past two chapters could have been resolved if they just sat down and talked calmly about things for an hour or so!!! 💀BUT stop it right now Butterfly is one of my favorite BTS songs, so so gorgeous on the piano, and I could imagine a very similar melody that Yoongi would write for MC being something like that too. 🦋

I really really loved writing that scene, I'd say that Yoongi was truly desperate and yearning for MC for so long that he couldn't help but beg for more hnnnnngggg. But now they have to tip toe around for a little bit until they figure out how to tell the others, which turns into MORE yearning and AH I wanna chew on my drywall!!!! 👹

I wonder how MC is going to dodge Hoseok's questioning, and we don't know if he heard those two making out (he shouldn't have been able to, the music room is soundproofed...) or was perceptive to how weird MC and Yoongi were being with each other. I also feel like if Hoseok heard them, some of the others would as well, and I can think of a few (Namjoon, Tae, Seokjin for ex.) that would probably bust down that door!!! But also your theory of Hoseok possibly catching their kiss in the hallway is something that could have happened eeeee. Also I love teasing Hoseok as well he raises my blood pressure... poor MC can't even hide her heartrate from them!

UGH Jinnie's birthday he's such a sweet darling, I love that he was able to go out somewhere yummy to eat and spend time with everyone. I also really love when he feeds MC... it's so hot to me idk why like yes PLS grab my face and stare at me and treat me like a princess Jin!!! Always making sure she's warm, wanting to go to the cooking class with just her, and feeling truly at home with her and in their house I CAN'T He's just such a love. 😍

My little wolf, he's warmed up so much to MC, and he's very straightforward and stern like you said-- ever since the Incident, he seems to be very concerned about weather or not MC is feeling upset.

HA I love writing MC and Jeongguk's interactions, they're both such little shits and you can tell when they get on each other's nerves, but it's less antagonistic these days and more playful. He totally called her out for pouting, and while it might work for some of the others, it doesn't on him LOL. But she got him back with that kiss, huh? I bet she's been dying to do that for months...

I'm PSYCHED you mentioned Ben. He's my favorite side character to write, and it's nice that MC is able to confide in him about any of her worries. -you'd actually managed to catch her off guard, finally showing yourself when she had her back turned to you. she can't help but just. stare a little while she looks up at you. you having her pinned to the ground with your blade at her throat and a foot on her stomach to keep her down. you know logically that your best move would be to just go ahead and take a chop at her neck but...you just can't bring yourself to, something tugging at the back of your mind in curiosity and telling you not to. so, with a little hum of finality, you pull away before vanishing into thin air once more.

-she thinks abt that interaction a lot. at first she just brushes it off as her just making note of you in case you pop up again, just so she can put up more of a fight this time around, of course. but,,,those motivations get cloudy very quickly.

-anyway. she's VERY curious abt you. she's never seen an employer before and so she just kinda. stares and watches you a lot. it freaks you out a little, esp considering she's still relatively quiet and tends to zone out a little whenever she does. whenever you show her any abilities of yours she goes all starry eyed and asks you how u do it ,,, she just thinks !!! it is neat :) ur shapeshifting abilities r rlly fun to her in particular, sometimes you tower over her easily and she'll rest her head on your shoulder, othertimes you're just below her chest in height and she'll have to pick you up and carry you around.

-also based on my dumb little cold blooded employers hc, she is both good and bad at it. like. ok. so. the first time you explain it to her and she notices ur kinda .. off , she goes into worry mode and just grabs every blanket or coat she can find to give to you so you can stay warm. keeps checking up on you and trying to ask you if ur comfortable and ok, buut ur usually conked the fuck out already so it doesn't rlly work ,, lol ,, she tends to KINDA pay attention to the cameras and monitors you've got set up a little but it's mostly just out of curiousity (which has lead to her sometimes lookig for her teammates just so she can find em and go 'hey im gonna be with my s/o for a little while ok byeeee <333' with no explanation. they have never heard of you before and have no clue what's going on.)

-after her own magnification she's a lot more affectionate w/ you which. considering she already WAS affectionate ,,, yea. you'll be doing ur think keeping an eye on all the monitors and she'll just kinda. walk in and start pestering you. y'know how cats will paw and meow at you until you pay attention to them??? she does that to you. at first she's just kinda laying her head on your shoulder as she leans way over you, nudges u a lil every now and then but that's rlly it. then she's grabbing your hands to mess with your claws and paw pads. then she's attempting to crawl on top of you to sit on your lap which is making it impossible to see any of the screens past her <3 you can't be mad because she just nudges you again and makes some broken little trill sound as best as she can ,,,

-u two kinda live together but also kinda don't???? like. officially she lives w/ her team at their base but rlly she lives with u at urs lmao. she sleeps there most nights and if she isn't either at her own base or on a mission then chances are she's there w/ you. it's become such a normal sight that nobody even rlly flinches at it anymore, there's still a lot of confusion on WHY she's there exactly but. she sure is !! first agent of yours who knocked on your door in the morning only to be met w/ the sight of your 8ft tall gf was fucking TERRIFIED

-you two still try and keep it more on the down low even if it's pretty obvious. leaves lots of room for little fights where you two are careful not to seriously injure each other, sending little glances and grins here and there that only you two will ever truly know the meaning of. you two make little bets of who wins these little fights of yours, currently ur in the lead because you found out her weak point is freezing up whenever she hears you giggle / snicker a little. anyway please consider cupping the side of her face while she has a kinfe embedded into the wall right next to your head.

i finished reading the svsss novel bc i started watching the animation and was like hey this has an interesting concept! And a weird humor, which I enjoy so maybe i should read the novel, plus i really enjoyed mdzs so only good things and good thoughts. But i- i kinda hated it hahrbahshau

i was enjoying the book and stuff and i really liked the weird dynamic between sqq and the luo binghe and yeah its cool and then he died (for the first time) and i was like hell yea that was cool, kinda weird paced and kinda stupid (bc he got out of the prison then walked like 3 steps and got caught? ok sure) but cool, and then he came back being super strong and i was like hell yeah!!!! the main is not a wimpy boy lets gooo and then the whole "i was sleeping holding your corpse for five years " thing happened and the forceful stuff and the possessiveness and i was like okay maybe this demon dude is kinda toxic but ok its fine, and then the whole tomb arc went down and i was like BOY YESSSS cool traps, weird new characters, strong sqq using his stupid brain and luo being asleep for the whole thing kinda was a blessing bc i just dont get his character honestly he needs therapy and needs to stop being so jealous its weird. Anyways i think the pacing of the book was kinda off, scenes that should've lasted one second went on and on and scenes and actions that could've had repercussions that could bring a new and interest mood in the narrative, didnt. For example the whole thing with the plant growing out of sqq arm couldve been so cool but it was just a fun set up so that weird snake boy could be with the main dude with his shirt off while bitch boy was being jelly like Wow so crazy!!!! and the whole punishment thing with evil bitch boy was so dope i wish it brought some tense moments between sqq and luo B, like maybe at some point when sqq was waking up and he sees demon boy and he has this weird panic attack bc he actually remembers the feeling of having his fuckingggg arm being RIPPED out of his body by the same face that he wants to protect and kiss!!!! couldve been so interesting!!!!! but nah lets pretend it didnt happen and move on :) anyways, it just had so many cool concepts that got thrown out the window and hoooo boyzi dont get me started about the fucking eNDINGGGGG omg god fucking damn it!!!! are u serious, sqq being rapped, that's the fucking solution???????? it was so hard to read honestly, the whole thing was really brutal and i think the author was like hey isnt this true love he let himself get fucked on top of some stones and got incredebly fucked up and actually died without having a meaningful conversation with the man he (i guess now) loves , isnt this so selfless of him, truly not a scum villain huh?! im sorry but you cant justify this fucking ending to me, its so dumb PLUS its literally the same shit that happened the first time sqq died so , there wasnt even a plot twist argggggggg i was so disappointed honestly. The fucking airplane extra was better than the entire fucking book, sqh is so raw and not ashamed of being a bitch and i love that for him, get your fucking hot ice demon my man. the line "Call me Dad now" aaaa i cant its so good but yea anyways hahahahah i was debating if i should read heavens official blessing bc im just so disappointed with svsss that i dont wanna go through something like this again. for HxH...the 2011 anime looks ugly as fuck and is less of a good adaptation than the 1999 is for the first few arcs...yes it’s added some filler and changed some stuff but the shit it changed is super random and impacts less the story than the changes 2011 did which COMPLETLY change the motivation of the main fucking character

for Berserk...the art really is not that good lmao its so fucking overhyped BYEEEE

i’m going to do this for a manga series I love that I don’t think I ever mentioned ont his blog: Vinland Saga! without explaining everything it’s a series that explores “protagonist as a fighter” narratives by saying that it’s not really great and having the protag just...have his life ruined by war and try to heal from that. Which i really enjoy! it’s also roughly based on the life of a real guy so the story has the same plot points as what we know about the historical figure the protag was based on

now my issue with this is that it just...lessens the impact of the point it makes because the first few arcs are dedicated to him growing up, getting a reason for revenge, joining an army learning how to be a badass and that destroying him, enter a timeskip and you get an arc i absolutely adore where he becomes the secondary character and you get to explore what he’s become from an exterior point of view. without spoiling too much this entire arc is about him learning how to socialize, cope with PTSD and he makes his first real friend

this entire arc is so dear to me because of the new fresh approach to the character and how you see him accepting help and working hard to get better and overcome his issues, his life still kind of sucks but he’s getting there and just learning how to live. it’s good! and it ends on a very rough note for him and his friend that kind of kills his dream again, but this time he’s not alone anymore......................................and it cuts to the next arc where he hops on a boat again to argue with people LMAO

i know it’s because damn we have to make it fit his IRL life but it feels like such a punch in the gut and also it’s boring as hell after the good conclusion that was the previous arc. it’s starting to feel like filler/artificially lengthening the story. why does he have to sail again my dude barely sleeps because of how much he’s messed up he needs a fucking break

i’d just...have ended the series on the last arc, that’s all. maybe have 1 to 5 “bonus” chapters after that that progressively show what he’s become in life and the stuff he did once/if he traveled again. but i’m a fan of not telling too much, the series STOPPING there entirely would have been immensly satisfying of an ending even if maybe a bit corny? (lessened by it not exactly being a happy ending)

“Hello, Ben.”

He picks up his suitcase, half smiles at you and looks to Joe.

“What? I don’t get a greeting like he did?” he asks, smirking.

You roll your eyes and turn to walk inside. Joe rolls in his suitcase and pushes it next your couch. Ben places his next to your kitchen island and wipes his hands on his jeans. The two boys look around in your home and Joe nods his head in appreciation.

“I really love this!” he says, looking at you and grinning. “So Eric cosigned?” he asked.

“Who’s Eric? You’re new man?” asks Ben, raising his eyebrows at you flirty. You make a disgusted face and hear as Joe holds back a laugh.

“My father.”

Ben purses his lips and stands up. His cheeks flash red and he clears his throat, not able to make eye contact with you.

“Oh…” is all he can say.

There’s an awkward moment of silence before you look around confused. You look over to Joe and furrow your brows.

“Hey, where’s everyone else?” you ask.

“Oh, they were running by the store real fast. Rami didn’t want you to feel like you had to feed us all.”

You laugh and walk to sit on your couch, followed by Joe plopping down next to you. Ben stands behind the kitchen counter, his eyes glued to you. You can feel his gaze burning into you, but you don’t dare look.

“I know Gwil is super excited to see you.” says Joe, teasingly. You hit his arm and act shocked.

“Joe! Don’t even start that.” you say laughing. You look up and Ben’s face has changed into an angry, tight lip look. You look away and suddenly stand up.

“Anyone want coffee?” you ask, walking towards Ben.

Joe calls out a yes as you open the cupboard and attempt to reach the top shelf for your mugs. The mugs you usually use are still in the dishwasher, so these were just the back up ones that you never use. You stand on your tippy toes and reach high up, your sweater slightly pulling up revealing a tiny portion of your hip. Ben stares at you closely and swallows hard at the slight exposure of you. You feel someone’s hand grab your hip, pausing your reaching. Ben’s long arm reaches out and grabs three mug handles and places them down in front of you, with his hand still on your hip. Your heart flutters at the contact and your breathing gets hitched in your throat.

“Thank you.” you say, your voice coming out hoarse. You clear your throat.

Ben smirks and nods his head, stepping away from you.

“I just feel bad when short people can’t reach normal height things.”

You spin around and glare at him. You half laugh and put your hands on your hips.

“Short people? Ben, I’m only four inches shorter than you!”

He shrugs his shoulders and smiles.

“And yet I can reach the top cupboard.”

You fight back a smirk and shake your head. You turn back around and feel your face burn as you smile to yourself. You grab the mugs and begin pouring the warm liquid into each one when all of a sudden there’s a knock at the door. You turn your head to look at Joe and watch him skip across the room to it. He opens it and in walks Rami.

“It’s gotten even worse outside!” he says, shivering.

Lucy follows behind him and is holding her coat close to her body. She looks around and spots you. She smiles widely and rushes to you.

“Oh, y/n! It’s been so long!” she says as she wraps her arms around you.

“Too long!”

She steps back as Gwil walks up behind her. He towers over her and lifts his arm revealing a glass bottle with a dark liquid inside.

“I brought whisky!” he says cheerfully to you.

You grin widely and rush to hug him. Besides Joe, you were the closest to Gwil. The two of you could talk and joke about anything. That also involved fake flirting. Little comments here and there to make each others faces turn bright red.

“Look at you, good looking!” you say, cupping his face. “And you remembered my favorite drink.”

You playfully pinch his cheeks and he scrunches up his nose. He places the bottle down on the counter and smiles.

“Like I’d ever forget a pretty girl’s favorite drink.” he says, winking.

You dramatically put your hand over your heart and swoon. Ben stands back and lowers his head as he watches the two of you be handsy with one another.

“He might’ve brought the booze, but I got us snacks!” says Rami, flipping over the paper bags and emptying contents of chips, crackers and… condoms? He quickly snatches those up and slips them in his pocket. His face is bright red as he looks between you and Lucy, whose face is also flushed.

“Wow, Rami.” you say teasingly. “I guess you really did come prepared.”

Everyone around you snickers as he walks up and hugs you.

“Still as funny since the last time I’ve seen you.”

You squeeze his cheek and turn to grab the mugs of coffee. You walk to Ben and hand one out to him. His arms are crossed as he puts up a hand and shakes his head. Your face falls.

“I thought you wanted a cup!”

He looks at you almost ticked off.

“I changed my mind.”

You grip the coffee and exhale as you turn around and face Gwil.

“Here,” you say handing him the mug. “Coffee?”

He reaches for it and his face lights up.

“Oh, thank you babe! Coffee sounds amazing.” he says as he bends down to kiss your cheek. You smile back and turn to Ben. He’s glaring at Gwil and you can notice his jaw tensing. You turn back around and walk to Joe. He’s pushing everyone’s luggage inside and shuts the door. He stands up and catches his breath.

“So,” he says. “Sleeping arrangements.”

Your eyes open wide and you nod.

“Oh, right! I almost forgot.” You walk into the living room and face everyone.

“Alright, so this is what I was thinking,” you start. “Lucy and Rami, you two can have my bedroom.”

They look at each other and shake their heads fast.

“No, y/n. We can’t take your room.” says Rami.

You hold your hand up.

“No arguing. The bed is big and it’ll suit you better. Just don’t get it… dirty.”

Everyone holds back a snicker as their faces turn red again.

“As for the rest of you, there’s a spare bedroom with a single in it. And I have an attic that’s got a spare mattress in. Don’t worry, there’s heat.”

The three boys all look at each other and shrug.

“I’ll take the attic.” Joe says. You nod.

“Where will you be sleeping?” asks Gwil, genuinely worried.

“Oh, I’m just gonna take the couch. I have a blow up bed in the upstairs closet, so if someone wants to set that up here in the living room and sleep-”

“I will.” says Ben, fast. He looks to you as he stands up straight. Everyone looks at him, noticing his too quick of an answer.

“O-okay.” you say. “Okay, so Gwil, you get the spare bedroom.”

Gwil watches Ben for a moment and squints his eyes. He looks back to you and nods.

“Alright then, that’s settled! I know you all must be exhausted.” you say.

Lucy nods fast and slings her purse around her shoulder.

“I could kill for a shower right now.” she says.

“Yes! There’s a bathroom in my bedroom and the second one is this door right here.” you say, pointing to a door behind you. She smiles and walks up to you to hugs you once more before rushing upstairs. Rami follows behind her as Gwil carries some luggage to his room. Joe sips on his coffee for a moment before walking to you.

“Seriously, thank you so much for this.” he says, hugging you and kissing the top of your head. He grabs his suitcase and walks up stairs in search of the attic door. You look around and you’re left with Ben. He’s leaning against the counter as you stare at your feet. You look up and your eyes lock.

“Um, so,” you go to say.

“Where’s the blow up bed?” he asks.

You close your eyes and shake your head.

“Oh, right! It’s in my closet upstairs. I can go get it-”

“No,” he says standing up straight. “I think I know what a closet looks like.” He turns and walks away from you.

It’s like some kind of switch in him flips. He goes from being genuinely funny, to teasing with you, to just being plain cold. You didn’t understand him at all. He was nice to literally everyone else, but you. You take in a deep breath and turn to walk to the hallway closet. You pull out some blankets and begin making a little bed on the couch. You look up as Ben walks down the stairs, tugging on huge box with him. He sits it down and slides the folded up mattress out. He unfolds it and pulls out the appliances. You watch as he tries hooking everything up and failing. He looks irritated when he finally drops everything and raises his hands.

“This thing is absolutely idiotic!” he yells. You roll your eyes and walk up to him and sink to your knees.

“Here,” you say, putting everything together in a second. He watches you shocked.

“You make it look so easy.” he says, looking at you. You look back and smirk.

“Good thing us short people use our brains.” you say and wink at him. He looks back shocked and slowly laughs.

“Oh, wow.” he says. 

You stand up and smile. See? The flip has switched again! You help Ben place sheets and a blanket on the bed. He gently lies down on it and puts his hands behind his head and exhales. You walk to the kitchen and turn the lights off. You sneak to the couch and slip under your covers. You lie in silence for a long while before Ben speaks up.

“Y/n?” he whispers. You turn your head slightly to hear him.

“Ben?”

He clears his throat.

“Whatever happened to Conner?” he asks quietly.

Your heart almost stops when he speaks his name. You close your eyes and take in a deep breath.

“I’m sorry, you don’t have to tell me. It’s none of my busine-”

“I caught him with my best friend.” you whisper back.

Another silence.

“I’m so sorry.” he says, sadly.

You shrug and turn to stare at the ceiling. Ben turned to stare at you.

“It is what it is.” you say, feeling tears sting your eyes.

“Well, he obviously doesn’t know he has something good, even if it were to slap him in the face.”

You’re shocked by his sweet words and you turn your head quickly to look at him. The glow of the fire illuminates his skin as his eyes lock with yours. You quickly smile and swallow hard.

“Goodnight, Ben.” you whisper, turning your back to him. He watches you for a moment, before turning his to yours.

“Goodnight, y/n.”
