Anyone else find talking to people online scarier and harder than in real life or just me? It feels like there’s even more even subtler social cues online than in person and trying to figure out the social boundaries feels lowkey impossible. Like in person it’s still hard but I feel like I’m the only autistic person I know who struggles so much more with interacting online than in person. It also probably doesn’t help that I’ve been told I text and type like an old person on multiple occasions lmao

There’s no wrong way to interact, I’m just curious if anyone else feels the same way.

How do u make friends on here??

I've had tumblr for a few months now and I still don't really know how to talk to people or communicate on here without coming off as weird. This is the first social media platform I've been on so I don't really know how to communicate with people online. And I know tumblr is a place where it's ok to be weird but I still don't really know what I should do when it comes to interacting with others on here.

I wanna try and put myself out there and get out of my comfort zone a bit more (god knows I need to do more stuff like that) but I really don't know how to do it and I'm just very clueless when it comes to making online friends let alone talking to someone online.

If anyone has any tips or some advice that might help me with this please let me know

i am. so tired of people acting like the internet is made for kids, or is in any way kid-friendly, bc it’s just not. are there sites that are more catered to kids? yes, but that does not make the entire internet *for* kids.

social media sites in particular are not for children. just because an app says “13+” does not mean that A) 13 yr olds should be on the app, or B) that you suddenly don’t have to monitor your kids online experience, or block/filter certain things.

i’m also tired of pretending that the “you can look up anything on google and find explicit content” is a valid argument bc that has nothing to do with the creators of the content, but everything to do with the algorithm (and i’m tired of ppl acting like safe search doesn’t work. half of the time it censors perfectly normal content).

just. watch your damn kids on the internet. it ain’t my responsibility to do it for you, and i’m so over nsfw artists being blamed for, god forbid, putting what they want on their own pages.

correct. sitting in your room jerking it to fantasies of a revolution that has no leaders, no organizational infrastructure, and no strategy is not more historically progressive than participating in electoral politics. revolutions don't spontaneously self-organize. the revolutionary left in the United States is fragmentary and riven with internecine feuds, and uses abstentionism as an excuse for its irrelevance. anytime somebody suggests that milieu might not be a tenable vehicle for large-scale political change, somebody leans back in their chair, sneers, and offers some cutting remark with zero substance that functions solely to indicate that cool kids don't vote, cool kids don't team up with liberals, cool kids don't care about large-scale effectiveness, they only care about the incestuous world of far-left politics.

they have no substantive defense of their behavior, of course. if they did, they would be able to offer a defense besides repeating Democratic campaign slogans in increasingly mocking tones to indicate their disapproval. the "far left" in american politics these days really is just an unpleasant, cliquish social club on the internet. and once you notice how their model for politics is Mean Girls, how they have no style of communication that isn't dripping with irony so they don't actually have to make a positive claim that they might have to defend, how they have zero ambitions beyond their extremely insular world, it becomes impossible to ignore.

My dad raises grass-fed beef cattle and I help him sell it, mainly by maintaining an online presence. For a while, I kept having the most ridiculous conversations with people who I assume were marketing students. I didn't want to be rude so I'd try to let them down gently but this one guy just kept insisting that with his magical marketing skills he could grow our business.

What he could not seem to comprehend is that we could not grow our business, at least not without significant time and monetary investment. Cows take two years from pregnancy to the size that you can sell. If we buy adult cows, our margins become razor thin or even negative. Even if we somehow could acquire some cows, our barn and hay fields are already near maximum capacity. Renting another field would be relatively easy, building a bigger barn not so much.

Cows are living animals, they aren't widgets that can be produced infinitely. Besides that, many businesses inherently cannot grow, because if they do they'll become something else. The delicious bakery down the street cannot produce much more than they do, if they began mass marketing and production they'd eventually be selling the equivalent of Twinkies. We grow grass-fed, organic beef, if we expanded how long would that last? Eventually we'd become the very factor farms that we hate. Some things can only ever be made on a small scale and they are usually the best things.

But also, what are they teaching them at marketing school and how is it so disconnected from reality?

I'm more of a lurker than a poster on tumblr because I've completely lost the habit of actually voicing out personal thoughts on anything I remotely enjoy online (most social media turning into ways to find work will do that for you) but I've just realized. I don't need to hide anything here I can just yap and be free. The way tumblr always intended..... no one will mind if I suddenly go on a wild rant about the hyperfixation du jour........
