Paleovember 2022, Argentavis!
Hailing from South America during the Late Miocene, this bird was a member of the teratorns, and also the largest, with an estimated wingspan of up to 21 feet and a standing height of nearly 6 feet! While often reconstructed as being vulture-like, new studies have found that they weren’t restricted to scavenging; rather, they would have stalked prey on the ground, stamping it and then swallowing it whole.

LOBOTOMY CORPORATION MEETS BIRD AUTISM
IN MY FIT OF BIRD AUTISM AND PROCRASTINATION I PRESENT TO YOU:
What species of bird would each dark forest bird be?
Punishing Bird:
So, the little guy.
I would imagine that it would be some sort of blue quaker parrot. Both are small, smart, and parts of their feathers are blue.
Albeit, it's feathers could be more white.
Judgement Bird:
Bird of Judgement. It knows what you did. /j
I'd imagine it as a melanized secretary bird, as both are long and lanky PLUS they both have those feather things on their heads.
(Normal secretary bird. A melanized version of this bird would have most of their feathers black.)
Big Bird:
...Um.
All I know about this guy is that he's large. There's not many distinctive features otherwise.
However, the biggest recorded bird to exist was Argentavis magnificens.
Still not big enough. /silly
anyways-

💎🦖
💎 - my boring answer is probably my iPad because its got all my artwork on it, but my interesting answer is this 1800s book of Beethoven's Sonatas that I picked up in Canterbury last summer
🦖 - you know, I had to look up a list of extinct animals for this one and came across this image of the Argentavis Magnificens and immediately fell in love

getting really into worldbuilding by looking up the largest bird possible.
if anyones curious, the heaviest flying bird was Argentavis magnificens and the one with the largest wing span was Pelagornis sandersi, which had teeth

Varilon
The bird behind him is called an Avis. They're like a mix of a condor and an harpy eagle about the size of a very tall man. Their feathers and claws are very good at holding and keeping spells (like a cantrip). They're inspired by the extinct Argentavis magnificens.
Varilon gets "adopted" by one such bird, much to his displeasure but he very fast appreciates the advantages of having a flying mount. The feather he's holding as an Avis-feather (not from "his" Avis) which holds a spell with which he starts his journey of growth.
Fun fact: At first he was just a side-character but during writing he became quite dear to me 😅
On a side note, I did enjoy rendering the fabrics more than usual.

Some predators of Argentina
Andean Puma or also known in english as mountain lion, Pumas hunt the Llamas and Guanacos in the Andean mountains.
Jaguar also known as its indigenous name: Yaguaraté. Unlike the Puma who lives in the southern chilean and argentine cold and glacial region of Patagonia, the Jaguar lives far to the north where the tropical dense rainforests are close to the border with Brazil. The Jaguar hunts for Capybaras, Tapirs in the rainforests or Alligators in the Wetlands. The Jaguar is not only the most dangerous predator in all of Argentina it is also the most dangerous animal in South America and the deadliest in all of the American continent.
Maned Wolf, it is actually not a wolf but it does belong to the canine family and it is the tallest canine alive in the entire world. It hunts for small but fast preys in the grasslands. Sadly, the Maned Wolf is in grave danger of extinction and less than 20.000 of them are still alive, so it is pretty rare to see them.
The Kodkod, these tiny units are smaller than a house cat but 20 times more deadly. The Kodkod lives only in Chile and Argentina and it is the smallest feline of both Americas. They are very hard to see in the wild but they can be seen more commonly on the chilean side than argentine side.
Andean Condor, the most famous animal of the Andes mountains, even more famous than the Puma. The Andean Condor has a wingspan of 3,2 meters making this bird the largest land bird on Earth. I saw one fly by close and it was quite a thing to see such a huge animal fly so graciously. They use the strong winds at the top of the mountains to take off and glide. It is a distant relative of Argentavis Magnificens. Argentavis went extinct 10.000 years ago, and it had a wingspan of almost 7 meters, making Argentavis the largest bird to have ever lived since the times of the dinosaurs.

Connections
In a dream I saw a huge, black bird standing on a stone – Argentavis magnificens – It took flight, the air shook from the movement of bird's huge wings – Spread out they resembled wings of an aeroplane – I followed the bird – It was flying over snowy mountains and deep ravines, green valleys and plains – Bird's black eyes were like huge cameras that record everything sharply and in every detail – I wondered what have they seen – The huge bird reached a shore of a dark lake – I woke up – The moon was bright and full – The desert seemed overflown with bluish grey light – I could hear growling and murmuring in the distance – A predator was having its night hunt – I couldn't see this animal in the dark plains – I followed the sound – Yet suddenly there was a waiting stillness – There was no breath of wind, sound or rustling in the air – I stopped – I felt that the animal is somewhere near – Wherever I looked I saw only motionless stones – A small creature appeared near to me between the stones, it had sand grey head and a body like that of a mouse – It was a pika – In the next moment, the pika stood motionless on a small stone and then it jumped – Just right to me, the silence was disrupted by a growl, a fast movement, a leap forward – Small animal's life on earth was over – I couldn't see the predator because of the darkness – Suddenly huge, green eyes appeared almost next to my face – It seemed that the grey, fluffy fur of the animal had melt into the background – It was a Palla's cat with bright eyes, with its ears close to the head and it had a grey fur – It seemed motionless, only his beautiful tail was moving furiously – In the next moment The Palla's cat was gone – The majestic cat of the desert
This fragment from a text is inspired by the works of Laimdota Malle and William Burroughs for exhibition ''How to move the giant''.

Quick update: 4/26
Hey all! I know we haven’t had one of these in a while but here’s a short update of what’s been going on:
Yesterday was World Penguin Day. Not much has been happening with our Paleocene penguins, but we do have an update on the original “penguin” - the great auk. The Iceland colony has begun to pair up a little early. We wonder if climate change might be the cause of this.
It’s been a while, but the male Parasaurolophus that’s been kept behind the scenes ever since this incident has finally been fully re-integrated into the Campanian Plains exhibit. It's taken some time for his injury to heal and for the other animals in the exhibit to accept him again.
If you’ve noticed Black Beauty isn’t on exhibit, there’s a reason for that. The veterinary staff noticed something concerning in her digestive system during her last annual exam and are looking into it. We hope it isn’t anything serious
