Okay so we know how all of the matsus r in disguise as priests at ze chapel. So aini is kinda the same but she is well aware of oso being a demon like ewwwww his vibe ..disgusting creature (we r the same). She’s demon in this but more like a fallen Angel, she didn’t choose this life but she’s learned to live with it sadly. She wishes she can be “pure” again but that life is behind her now. So she spends her time being a priest as well and holding extreme resentment to oso bc it was kinda his fault she’s fallen. Like she hearts her big powers but hates the fact that he’s stripped aini of any access to her world ever again. She misses her life. She wants oso’s head, for everything that he has done, this is all his fault…though she has some faults too. But she dresses in pure white robes to cope, being the “kind soul” to ppl she looks at directly but she isn’t like that at all 💔. She knows this isn’t her, she’s in pain and sorrow every day bc of him.

ok so like a long time ago (knowing how mythic beings age way differently than humans) aini and oso knew each other and oso was a demon in disguise (a shame ik) but he was an angel like aini. The were teens at the time, but were very close. Aini saw him as an equal, someone she could trust…that was a big mistake though. Aini was more way more purehearted back then and had let her guard down too much. She told one too many secrets to oso and since he was a demon in disguise, he used that to his advantage (though he felt extreme guilt, but it was his duty as a demon to get rid of all angels) He pulled a stunt that resulted in the death of an angel…and put the blame on aini. She was so confused and betrayed, she trusted him! How could he just go and turn on her back like that?! He’s an angel…wait..no…angels don’t kill other angels. She stared at him, her innocence wilting away as she saw his tail and horns. She felt her heart sank as she stood amongst the council who decided her fate. As unusual as these circumstances were, they believed that she was keeping osomatsu’s true self a secret and were to be banished with him. Aini cried and begged for mercy, but no avail. A punishment this harsh warranted no eyes to see, she was immediately shunned and sent to the depths of the underworld. With him. She never felt this sort of pain before…she looked at her wings…they were bloody and burning. Damnation? Her halo still stood as a reminder of what she once was, but it was blackened. Aini bit her tounge hard enough to draw blood and immediately started looking for osomatsu. This was his fault. All his fault. Where did he go???? This is hell, figuratively and literally. Aini would spend many, many, many years searching for him. Those years took her deity status away and replaced it with the demon one she resented…but must embrace of course. At least I’m strong…she would tell herself with tears. I’m so alone… She ends up becoming a priest, a pure one…to feel what she once felt those hundreds of years ago. Then one day, she sees a priest who looked eerily similar to her old friend. Aini has heard stories of a demon named Lucifer and always wanted to fight him head on, but she had no idea it was osomatsu until she saw him once more. This will finally be her chance to get revenge, but she sees the remorse in his eyes…he knows that’s aini, the one who was the closest to him. Oh how his heart pained every time he was near her. This was your fault y’know. Maybe they’ll rekindle, but not after a well deserved confrontation.

okay so first off he goes by he/she/they, though he would melt inside if ppl started using she/her for him. i’d imagine it’d be from the gang

pretty much had a feeling she was trans since they were a kid, he stole his sister’s dolls and tried to put on his mother’s dresses when she wasn’t around. had to stop cuz he got caught by his older brother, who’s an ultra masculine douchebag

i feel like this’ll happen no matter what au he’s in (canon, modern au, 80’s or 90’s au, etc) considering he didn’t exactly have the best background

so he never got to explore their gender and was practically forced to shove it down and not tell anyone. ofc this led to him being very secretive and defensive abt his masculinity, where he dials it up extremely when he’s a teen. which is one of the reasons why he’s so angsty in the novel

also being masculine and putting up the tough guy act protected her from the rest of the world, and most importantly: being validated by men. even if she wants to distance herself away from masculinity, internally there will still be that conflict of wanting to be appealing to men

again no matter what au he’s in, i feel like there’d be transphobia everywhere. unfortunately

genesis was born into a basically a military family that prides themselves in being the best at providing o’khasis w/ strong knights/guards/bodyguards- some of the ppl of their family serve directly under Lord Garte himself- so she was raised in a way that taught her how to fight and serve those above her. she was taught from the moment she could wield a sword how to be the best weapon for anyone, a sword unable to have their own opinions, beliefs- she passed at the top of her class in knight academy and when zane cane around to build the jury, he chose genesis to be one. she’s pretty much what you can expect from someone who was raised in this way, she doesn’t seem to show any emotion or sympathy, she can be cruel and has convergent thinking, she’s not… cold or mean? but sort of monotonous? in a way? she has zero social skills so she does not do well alone in a public setting. she’s extremely obedient to authority figures and uhhhh thats all i can come up w/ for her? she has a bit of a strange relationship with jeffory? by that i mean, jeffory tries to stop genesis whenever she does something cruel when zane’s not around. he has to spend a while to convince her to out her fists down and just jgnore it bc zane’s not gna care. he sorta feels bad for her since she never really got that freedom at all? kinda like an animal born in captivity who even if you give them a way out, they probably wont take it bc their little area is all that they know. if that makes any sense, its so weird to compare my ocs to animals but thats sorta the best way i can explain it.

i found your fic "evermore" by chance, and golly, i hope you don't mind me spilling everything about it.

now to clarify...i am someone who's distant with genshin impact (as in, ive put a ton of hours into it, played it an launch even!) but due to the overwhelming fandom and hoyo being....like that, I haven't been able to get into it with good feelings. its still a fun game, despite it all.

so when I got into your fic, I had....how do you say.... less attachment to the characters. I didn't think much of ayato, since his banner started when I quit playing. but I was intrigued with the plot! I'm super familiar with angst! I thought to myself, this will be a fun read.

and....quite frankly...your fic made really invested in these characters. I could feel the reader's pain reminiscing their time with ayato, the small dips and feels with diluc, how thoma has been pining for them this whole time- a very fresh, very interesting perspective to these characters, in a scenario that you couldn't see ingame.

while i expected the "im in a arranged marriage" plot with ayato, I certainty didnt see the twist with diluc! I can see why you said he wasn't leading on, and the revelation makes a bit more sense with ayato's comment of "the wind is going strong" because not only there were rumors, but the fact that those rumors could've reached jean before she could arrive. it would've been messy if she knew, right?

although...on that note, I might be misremembering on my part, but everyone else seems to be...pushing? or rather, interested with how diluc and the reader's relationship. rather than feeling he was leading us on, it was rather you who "lead us on" (im putting this in quotation marks bc i dont like the connotation of the word) which is why I can understand people feeling disappointed because it wasn't clear, even if there was shifts into diluc's pov- why hasn't there been an instance of him thinking about her? i think something like that would better ease in the readers about the ship, but also, since you never mentioned diluc's plus one, i assume this was the road you wanted to take- which isn't bad at all! i respect your decision, and im amazed you went through with it, even if it can cause backlash. many respects for you, even moreso you were willing to write an alternative version.

anyways, all in all, amazing fic. I cant wait to see what's next on the board. maybe more angst? haha!

im glad evermore managed to bring you attachment to the characters and how you enjoyed the things evermore has <333 there was acc a few more “hints” (i wouldnt consider these hints seeing how it doesnt hint the fact that diluc is engaged, but rather there’s something secretive about him) i put in some chapters — as for the shifts where the pov is on diluc, ig thats for you to find out in chapter 14 🤫🤫🤫

as someone who didn't care about gram from the very beginning, i couldn't care less about whom he ends up with, but i have to say my girl eugene did deserve better. she gave this whole speech and for what? to settle for a guy that can't take a no? should have made todd a main character instead of gram, if this is what they were going to do with him lol

yep anon, 2 of my biggest gripes with this situation is that somehow, by making grameugene a thing, they've managed to erase all personality from both of them. maybe you didnt care about him at the start but at least he started out with some personality. he was smiley and sweet, a little cheeky, just very that guy yknow, he was the grounded, nice one of the group. and he rlly rlly cared what he was fighting for. remember him in all those classes making good, strong arguments advocating for the changes he wants to see in the legal system, that was his thing!! so for him to be reduced to this guy that chases a girl and be removed from the gang so much and have that fight taken away from him, idk it just kinda sucks. i always saw him as the one in the gang with this reasonable optimism that change could happen and it could be done right, but we didnt get to see him act on any of it and thats such a missed opportunity.

as for eugene, she really does deserve better. i didnt want her to exist just to be this plot device for gram and black to mess with, but thats what she turned into. and so much of how shes acted is contradictory, she gave that whole speech about not sitting around crying over boys, but we only ever get to see her in that context. and i cant even tell if she likes gram or is just getting with him bc he's insistent, in which case 'date the guy bc he wont stop pursuing you' isnt exactly a good message. i wouldnt care if the relationships shes in were messy or not good for her, thats kinda the nature of the story, but i just want them to make sense, and i see no chemistry or passion in any of the ppl involved. i believe she likes black bc when they spoke at the protest she looked actually heartbroken and even when she first was with black (white) in his room she was acting flirty and forward and thats eugene, but we see none of that with gram, and gram is so over the place that i was never able to gauge what he was feeling. even when he was coming on to eugene, i still didnt believe it bc he wasnt acting like someone with a long harboured, secret crush.

Hi! Me again! So, part of it is how Kpop "vocal soup" is done, and how they're trained! Sms a little bit of an outlier in the sense like all the big 4 they tend to have one or two "special" tones per group-but even then those are kind of interchangable u less you're a fan or have a good ear. I hope it becomes more clear what I mean and I only used groups I'm a fan of so hopefully it comes across as respectful but clinical lol. NCT in general has strong vocalists but the same principle still applies and my biggest !! In that not really mattering is how SM has most of the boys separated when they're recording/how many cuts there are in the BTS videos showing that they're still being coached/guided on camera not really off the cuff bc sm/Kpop, and who gets what lines. I just watched the universe recordings and I think it's a good example. My English also sucks and this is super long lmao!

Kpop runs off "vocal soup". Tara's CEO,brave brothers, and the guy who did shinees earlier work have all used the term at some point (I'm only 23 but Ive been here for a while lol) and I think you can still find proof of it when you go through old blog forums. Vocal soup is the idea of keeping tones generally indistinguishable from each other so you can swap vocalists out/ghost vocal. Like obviously if you know let's say 127 for example you can hear the difference between Jungwoo and Haechan and even Doyoung. But if you weren't a fan and compared Xiumin and Suho from exo it'd be REALLY easy for sm to "vocal soup" them-and I'm almost sure like in every group they have. A good example of that in NCT is probably the rappers and the mid range/high range vocalists like Jaemin/Jeno,Kun/Ten. Exos a good concrete example of that at the top of my head but this is for every group. You can hear that Chen and Kyungsoo have really different tones from each other, but if you put Kyungsoo and Baekhyun together or Xiumin, the difference is in how high they get, or Sehun/Kai-theres a difference in overall range and fans can spot the difference because we're so indindated with songs but the GP/casual listeners aren't. And in the studio it's common to "vocal soup" and mix those voices together-their actual tones aren't all that different. Each singer follows an archetype-Jonghyun/Chen/Taeil/Haechan maybe goes here? , Winter/Taeyeon/Wendy ect. It's why shows like that guess where x singer is behind the door! Out of six ppl with similar voices is even capable of happening-the actual vocal tone is trained (and why in other countries for the most part-its omg who could this voice be*I'm speaking in generalities a little). It's why it's such a big deal when they have singers with *special voices*. Taeil might have the higher pop vocal range sm loves but they can't train out Haechans tone-and to a lesser extent Jungwoo,thats why they're always getting similar sort of parts in song structures. It's why YG has a Bom/Rose archetype in each of his girl groups. I'm positive that the new yggg will follow the same pattern of one very unique voice and singing style-Bom sings everything stacatto which Kpop fans call bad singing lol, And rose is purposely breathy even when she belts. SNSD is also a good example-in the chorus all the girls are supposedly singing-but Jessica barley ever actually had chorus linea-its usually Seohyun because she has the Sm bright voice sound-and whoever else. But they'd make all the girls mime out-and vocal later it to make it sound more full. Like idk if you know who Girls Day is or Secret of 4minute. Take their lead and main vocals, just from group to group-and the tones are virtually indistinguishable. Kpop groups are purposely built that way-and the big thing that differentiates kpop choruses is usually how many vocals they have layered into the chorus-but that sound of how many people you think you can hear-might not actually be happening at all.

Usually-and what I think is also happening to Nct-is that they generally have an idea of who's gonna sing what a couple years into their debut,maybe even as early on as the first 2 or 3 cbs/repeating song structure. Jungwoo/Haechan/Jessica/Sunny/Rose are usually always gonna get the "emphasize" parts of songs-the prechorus/bridge/adlibs usually versus the main verse just because of their tones-same sort of thing for rappers in non heavy rap groups (where it's reversed). But the first couple years a kpop group is placed together they have everyone run through the whole song regardless of vocal ability, or all the rappers try the raps parts (but rappers also sing so they probably get both-and depending on the grouo-the rappers ARE the special voices/"umph"-or just other Archetypes that can be switched out from one a other. Jarmin raps like yangyang raps like Jeno raps like hendery ect) and all the vocalists try the vocal parts. And then the producers cut and paste who does what. As it becomes more clear and with guidance from the CEO/directors usually the producers tend to have a template for who does what-and part of that is also following the direction of we need so and so to have more lines so they get more screentime/build in a dance break for the dancers please/rappers need lines if it's not a rap group ect ect. Everything is super decided-theres no way it's as lazze faire as sm has it in those videos, everything is being cut and pasted and probably reworked AGAIN after whoever it is approves it. And that's not the producers, at Sm it's directly lsm and his board for every come back.

(And it's not just kpop that does this-pop singers get vocal souped a lot, a lot of the famous pop girls and indie pop singers are being either ghost vocaled (jlos whole career lol) or vocal souped by unnamed singers/producers mastering and remixing the demos into their songs so it's a more standard pop voice).

They have the NCT boys separated when they're recording because it takes HOURS to record even simple small parts usually, the videos arent just short, they're SUUUUPER condensed. Its most likely the 3-4th time any of them are ever hearing the song-if sm/whatever company is even showing the group the song before the studio-and just because they're being directed to record it doesn't mean it's going to be released. Mark alluded to having recorded child ages ago-and other songs too. As if it's your last was a 2ne1 song that's on camera being played out of YG years ago-and bp had a recording of it from debut but didn't release it until later. When sm is doing the BTS videos they're leaving out the parts that weren't chosen, like in my guess probably making Haechan and Jungwoo sing the same lines over and over and then having whoever wasn't chosen for x come back and record-or most likely making the boys sing every part they can and then when the producers have decided this person goes here here and here-getting them to come back and either reshoot for sms camera(cynical interpretation) or coming back and redoing lines that they were chosen for/switched, they can easily just play Haechan listening to Jungwoos parts because they probably have Jungwoo singing every feasible part they could think of. (This isn't to you but to loop fans in general, Ive seen people be mean to Aespa lol, All of those BTS videos are still Sm edited, and ultimately fanservice/pr).

A big reason for the vocal soup technique is because if someone's voice stands out-not just in their group but in general-its harder to replace. I like skz but that one dude leaving is a good example as to why-nothing really changed in their sound with him gone. All they had to do was make their vocalists go in their upper range, and they can recreate the tone almost exactly. Even kpop rappers tend to have the same tone. And I'm only saying kpop bc we're talking Abt nçt but the same thing works for western music-theres a very "bright" sort of tone for female sopranos in musicals-and they're taught to sing a certain way with their vowels ect. You don't really WANT a super unique vocal tone because you're onstage acting out a role-and hopefully get other roles-even if youre a technically skilled singer it won't matter if your voice detracts from the production. Most pop singers if they're female are mezzo sopranos-the most common female vocal range, and they're taught to enunciate and sing a certain way by genre. A RnB is her depending on the decade is going to enunciate differently in the 90s to now. A non poo example is probably paramore-Hayley has a soprano voice which is VERY high but she usually sings her lower notes in the chorus bc that's more accessible/more of that early rock sound they were going for-and she purposely enunciates a certain way to get her voice to break because it's rock music. It's not the Os and As like Beyonce/Adele, it's her Cs and Hs where she usually purposely causes a voice break-or on the pop rock end why all those dudes like the Wonder Years/Bowling for Soup even years apart all have the same vocal affect. It's how theyre forming the words and probably on some level trained their voices to mimic those tones.

i have 2 thoughts mainly coming from this, the first is that i NEVER would have guessed how ... relevant? jungwoo actually is in the production process. i never rly found jungwoos tone remarkable i thought he was just naturally breathy/he reminded me of xiumin in that sense. which i agree i am suho biased but he and xiumin were very similar to me too when i was getting into exo and he just simply isn't top 3 vocalists in exo even though he isnt bad. i wonder if this is connected to how yeri doesn't get a lot of individual lines/is relegated to the rap parts but does a lot of the hidden/grounding vocal parts?

forgot my 2nd thought lol im still a lil high but another thought that comes is that dichotomy between unique and non unique tones. i first noticed this with seulgi (unique) and wendy (non unique), i concede wendy is prob better technically but seulgis voice has more character (and i didnt use to like her voice at first). id never heard of the vocal soup thing but it makes so much sense, especially when sometimes it is a better biz decision to cram a bunch of randoms/mediocre singers in a group as opposed to cutting a lot of ppl

so basically im feeling like this means sm/kpop (sm being the frontier of modern kpop in so many ways) is MORE processed than we all thought it was. i wondered how it could be possible/effective for companies to micromanage comebacks so deeply as they do, when often they will end up getting criticized on the same minute level. i guess sm/etc. see a profit incentive to accept it when some of their decisions are poorly received. there are some things abt the kpop life that we will never know but again its the same with hollywood and the us music industry etc. etc.

the bitchy comments at dinner almost came to a stop(emphasis on the almost), she did what she had to around the house without having to be asked more than twice or so, and she stopped going out of her way to make ppl miserable

tubbo was born and immediately put up for adoption, he was passed through group homes and foster homes and whatever the shit his whole life until one of his foster parents realized holy shit this kid is a genius cause he was doing crazy math and biology or whatever the fuck equations as like a five year old so word got out about this genius kid cause that foster parent started putting him into contests and shit to make moneyyyy and then the scientists(dream????) from the facility find him and think hmmm this kid is big brained let’s take him and use him to help do experiments or experiment on his brain to see if he’s also mutant or both yeah both so dream somehow legally adopts him and brings him to the facility where he gets forced to experiment on these kids his age against his will and then also gets experimented on then eventually ranboo and tommy and jack and him escape together

ranboo literally has no clue where he came from before the facility, he thinks maybe he was born there or at least there since he was a newborn cause all he can remember is gaining consciousness one day at 8 and suddenly being strapped down in a chair in this in this big white room with a window and a bunch of scientists staring at him and holding clipboards, one of the scientists looked way way way too young to be there, like the scientist looked like he was ranboos age(haha tubbo moment) anyways ranboo is there and then he gets experimented on for years because of his teleporting ability that he still can’t control and then the squad all break out

jack was born in a normal suburban household with a mom and dad and sister and then found and kidnapped by the scientists one day when he was eight. he gets experimented on to the point where he doesn’t like using his powers and even fears the fire because of how often the scientists would set him on fire to see how long he could actually take it. after years of this he escaped with the squad and works on science things with tubbo instead of having to use his powers

philza comes from a long line of mutants with various abilities that have lived in secret for centuries. he knows how to live a normal life as a mutant and hide those mutant abilities from the general public, and he teaches his son wilbur how to do that. when he meets his new assistant at his architect job technoblade he’s like “this bitch has abilities and even though normal people can’t see it i can” then he confronts techno and technos like “haha idk what you’re talking about lol what’s a mutant”

All right, back to answering these! Sorry I took so long.

Honestly...your ask really made me rethink some things I’d always taken for granted. First I’ll just preface this by saying I’m mostly thinking out loud and offering questions, I’m not insisting on or condemning or judging anything, and certainly not dismissing what people’ve lived through or their choices.

So my original answer to this was going to be to loosely agree with your points and then use them to pivot to John’s speech about everyone’s coming out journey not being the same, because as you both said, it’s not about the partner at all, and was going stay focused on the movie but you’ve really made me consider what coming out and closeted even really mean, on a much larger scale. Because Harper has come out where she lives, right. She’s not hiding herself there, she’s affectionate and loving and by Abby’s own account, a totally different person than with family. So we don’t just mean she has to come out, we mean she has to come out to her family. Why? Like truly, your last point, how come this doesn’t get the same treatment about consent and privacy as everything else? And let’s not say, oh, of course it’s up to you when you come out, nobody should out you, because the message from all directions, within the community and without, is very much that you eventually do have to at some point.

Even in this movie, John’s lovely speech STILL does imply that this is an end destination someone has to be “ready” to finally get to. If they don’t, that’s a failure to get there. And this is of course oversimplifying the fact that some people may come out to a sibling or one parent first or only them ever. But like, really, as you said, why is it seen this way, to prove people aren’t ashamed of themselves, of their gayness, of their partner, that literally, if they love their partner, they have to risk losing their family? Because what else is that saying? Knowing John’s own story, knowing that Harper had just admitted she was scared of telling and losing them, what did Abby’s I want someone who’s ready then mean, if not that? Someone ready to tell their parents and risk losing them, no? And this isn’t at all bashing Abby or even the movie, it’s just this overriding expectation. She’s of course valid in wanting to date someone out (though, again, in the ways that most affected Abby’s life, Harper was out--leaving out this trip from hell that it would also be completely understandable to want to escape from) but in the context of that moment, what else did it mean? And this isn’t the only media that does it, so many stories out there do.

I remember we briefly discussed this because of April from TBH, and even there, a character who is financially dependent on her family and with a conservative, violent father got some flak for not coming out. GLOW did this recently too, and Little Voice, where the queer person who wasn’t fully out is hiding their True Selves and ashamed and how no out person will want any part of that. And then the person comes out and hardly ever is the reaction as bad as it would most likely have been in real life, including for Harper. Why is this narrative so pervasive? “Just stop being a coward and it’ll all turn out okay.”

I mean. I do get WHY. It is an incredibly important step. For a lot of people, their family are the first and closest people they feel like they have to and want to tell, especially if they're young and/or live at home. And if we don't tell them, how do we push things forward for the community, and we've fought for so long to live openly like this, gay pride is what it is for a reason, and what good is being loved without being known and ultimately, it is traumatizing being closeted. People want to share this and have others share with them and keeping this huge secret that you know is unjustly forced upon you does take a mental toll. Agreed, agreed, agreed. But then why make it even worse by adding shame and guilt and pressure on top of it, you know? Surely there’s a middle ground. I get that there needs to be a strong motivation sometimes, otherwise people might stay in a kind of closeted “comfort zone” and end up missing out on surprisingly positive experiences, but maybe people shouldn’t be pushed either way. Some of us who think we might not ever may still yet decide we want to, but I have confidence that those people coming out in their own time would do so even without this stigma attached to the closet. Nobody stays in there because we want to.  We all feel that same need to tell our families, all those reasons above apply to us, too. Circumstances are just different sometimes.

And the funny part is, I do think Harper is a person who should come out to her parents, because it matters that much to her. She’d never be happy without telling them. It goes without saying she shouldn’t have lied or brought Abby within a hundred miles of them before it was all sorted. But, say, a different person in her situation, one who told Abby she had no plans to come out to her parents anytime soon and either went home alone or not at all...is that so bad?

BACKSTORY:

triggers: brief mention of alcoholism, paralysis (paraplegia), i still forgot the word for kids getting kicked out akfjdsl

born and (mostly) raised in north carolina, for some years, simon never knew ‘want.’ it wasn’t that his parents were rich -- nothing of the sort -- rather that his mother would do anything for her sons and daughter. 

their father was not quite as doting, spending more of his time drinking his hatred away than hanging out with his wife and children. if he didn’t... who knows what would happen!

that said, simon was raised to believe that mutants were a species to be feared. ‘they’ll look at you with blood-thirsty eyes,’ so said his mother. but it was not for general hatred -- her own mother had been killed at the hands of one, a brotherhood member, and she’d been left with permanent scarring on her back. his father, on the other hand, simply wanted something he was allowed to hate.

so imagine how unfortunate -- in many ways -- simon found himself when his brother, ian, dared him to dive into a pool using their tiny trampoline... and he ungracefully followed through and dove into the water that was... much shallower than he had perceived. a terrible sensation spread, and then...

his mutation came forth, randomly and suddenly taking the form of a hellhound as a trauma response. in this form, his spine was immediately healed, but when he was quickly and involuntarily snapped back to his original form? to a human? nothing.

the doctors did all they could, but when he came to and they’d given up, he found himself completely paralyzed from the waste down with limited mobility in his arms. he could move his hands. he could move his head. he could move his neck. he could move his forearm. and, with concentration, he could move the rest of his arm. well enough to not be considered quadriplegic!

fortunate that his parents had not seen his transformation, unfortunate that he had no clue what had happened. fortunate that he could move like normal when in his new form, unfortunate that he turned any time the slightest pain was felt in one of his non-numb/paralyzed areas. finally, his ian told him his own secret: while their sister was human (as far as they knew), he was also a mutant. biokinesis, the ability to manipulate life. quite strong, quite invisible.

he told him of this organization -- the brotherhood -- that believed in mutant superiority... to which simon was like ‘didn’t one of those mutants scar mom and kill grandma?’ to which... he confirmed, but waved off. ian was considering joining, if he could find a way, and he encouraged simon to do the same.

that said, simon still had a deep-seated fear and slight hatred towards mutants. it wasn’t something he found himself able to believe in until he was sitting in the family room, watching some program that he can no longer remember, and felt a burn on his hand from his sister accidentally dropping a hot plate. 

hyperbolic trauma response: he turned into a hellhound. his parents were terrified, his sister was curious, and ian... had an odd look of pride. to make things worse, he accidentally used a subpower he didn’t even know he had and induced fear. when he was human again, his loving mother insisted that he leave. and, just to prove a point, ian used his powers -- something he had honed much better than simon -- to rot the apple on his sister’s tray (and she just looked more pissed off than afraid or angry at the two).

somehow, they found themselves in new york. with a wad of cash and unfulfilled dreams, they settled down. ian was forced into the role of his caretaker (which is why he’ll remain an npc, rip), something that felt somewhat humiliating at first but... after a while, just natural.

ian aided in simon honing his ability. and when he finally did? he’d now garnered enough hatred in his heart to truly consider his brother’s suggestion. unlike his brother, he wasn’t murder-happy, but remembering his parents... thinking about all the ways others thought of him in his hellhound form... thinking about the essex house and how that could’ve been him... thinking about the way he was actually fortunate to have the ability -- how his world would be so small without it... 

as kind of an aside, he purchased a dictation recorder to begin spilling his guts a la novels. fiction? sure! based on real life? sure! non-fiction? ...masked as fiction, sure! and, while it wasn’t the steadiest income, he would... occasionally lie and say he was related to george orwell... which would encourage publishing companies to sign, and encourage even more people to buy his novels.

five years ago, he joined the brotherhood with ian. while he isn’t too fond of murder, in his hellhound form, his predator instinct amplifies his hatred tenfold. as a hellhound, he’s so down for murder! and as a human, he’s... down for ranting about them and helping come up with plans.

his sister ! i love family connections. with his brother being his caretaker, i pretty much have to leave him as an npc, but i think his sister would be really fun ! could be a mutant, could just be curious and... not furious. she clearly did/does not hate them to the same degree as their parents, something that simon and his brother picked up on.

FORMAL INTRODUCTION FOR KITAHARA KOJIRO

hi, for some bizarre reason unbeknownst to even me, this muse has been like half a year in the making (actually, it’s been 5 months but that’s close enough for to still feel shame), but he’s finally here. the ““ evil ”” witch oc! witch man who does murders! whatever you want to know him as! anyway, from now on you just know him as kojiro or koj bc that’s his name <3 please look under the read more link for more info! (WARNING: the following will touch on darker themes like death, murder and, to a lesser extent, abuse. this is a heavy character so please keep that in mind if you ever wish to interact!)

BASIC FACTS

firstly, this oc is mostly connected to tsukidate sho, my witch detective oc. the connection mostly lies in the fact they’re both witches who interact with crime/murder in some capacity but their families are also close.

his name is kitahara kojiro ( 北原浩二郎 ), known as either kojiro or koji by those around him. i haven’t decided his exact birthday yet but he was born in 1990 and is approx. 31 years old. (i understand this is ‘older’ by tumblr rp standards but, by normal people standards, early 30s is still relatively young so basically, if u make old ppl jokes, i will bite u)

technically speaking, kitahara is his father’s surname but he never really knew his father and was raised by a single mother. however, his mother made the choice of raising him with his father’s name in an attempt to distance the pair from her own family. i’ll explain why that is the case in the backstory section of this post.

kojiro is a witch. he’s not involved in any broader witching community nor does his being a witch have much bearing on his professional life but he is a talented witch, despite being trained only by his mother. what he DOES use his magic for, however, is to cause a lot of problems.

oh yeah, he’s also cursed. and he kills people. because he’s cursed. again, i’ll explain this in more detail further in the post but it’s kind of an important fact. he was cursed to die at twenty years old and he’s still alive eleven years later because the only way to hold off death is to kill other people <3 omg that’s awkward

in his normal everyday life, kojiro works as a cake decorator and does photography on the side too. he’s a creative person and tbh he developed a lot of stupid hobbies in his teens, thanks to the belief he was gonna die by the end of them, so he ended up making a living out of what he liked. he also didn’t go to uni because he didn’t see the point because, again, he thought he’d be dead by 20 and then, when he wasn’t, he stopped caring.

it’s also important to note that he, uh, doesn’t give off murderer vibes at all. he’s friendly and sociable (and not in the ‘this guy’s definitely a weirdo’ way). 

i kept calling him ‘evil witch oc’ while i was working on him but, as i’ve said before, i think that’s actually a little too simple and i wouldn’t actually call him evil. he’s NOT a good person but i don’t think evil is the right word for him either. he doesn’t believe he’s a good person either but he’s learned to justify his own actions as a means of survival. kojiro doesn’t enjoy killing people, he doesn’t take any pleasure from the act of murder, but he’s also relatively calm about it too. since he doesn’t have to do it on a super regular basis, he prefers to target shitty people and esp corrupt witches in positions of authority (not really in a self-righteous way, more just because they piss him off). he has specific personal reasons for this.

he has a pretty intense fear of death. you think he’d be over it, having spent his whole life knowing he was meant to die early, but the ability to push his death back sort of flipped some switch in his head and, over the years, he went from quiet apprehension to paranoid obsession.

why is this muse 30 years old? firstly, because i want him to be. that would probably be enough but also his age actually IS important. the vibe i’m going for with this muse is, as i’ve said like once before, is what happens to the hero of the story after they complete their quest? what if that quest doesn’t go as planned? kojiro’s quest was to hunt down the demon associated with his curse. that’s his original ‘story’. what i want to explore here is the aftermath of that, what happens after the weight of the quest comes crashing down on the hero and they return to normal, everyday life where they’re forced to shoulder it as though it’s nothing. a decade after his initial story, he’s worn out. he’s not the same person he was at the start.

BACKSTORY

this isn’t going to be written in a super formal or tidy way because i honestly just can’t be bothered turning this into a proper piece of decent writing. this is only going to be in paragraph form because i don’t like putting backstories into bullet points unless it’s super brief.

kojiro was born in 1990 as the first (and only) child of his unmarried mother (as yet unnamed) when she was just nineteen years old. she was raised in a strict and traditional witching family so the fact that she’d had this child out of wedlock AND that the father wasn’t a witch didn’t exactly land well. regardless, they let her stay in the family home but it would soon turn out that the child was cursed. according to a member of tsukidate family (i.e; sho’s family who, as i said before, are on good terms with kojiro’s family and who are also knowledgeable in the realm of curses), the curse determined that the child would die on the day of his twentieth birthday unless he was able to kill the demon associated with the curse.

as if the judgement from her own family wasn’t enough, the curse brought with it a lot of stigma from the witching community and so his mother made the decision to leave home by herself when kojiro was a year old. all she could afford was a small, one bedroom apartment but, so long as she and her son had a roof over their heads, anything was good enough. kojiro would live a relatively normal life, going to school with other children his age and away from other witches, but his mother would teach him what she knew. although she wanted to him to live as easily as possible, she felt she had to prepare him for his inevitable encounter with the demon. kojiro grew up knowing about the curse too. there was no way to keep it a secret --- even if weren’t cruel to hide it from him, the curse had left a visible mark on him (still working out the details of what this looks like and where on his body it is but it basically looks like a tattoo to most people).

when kojiro turns eighteen, he decides he’s old enough to face this demon and claim control of his own life (maybe i’ll write this as an actual drabble / piece of writing one day bc i’m reeeally brushing over it here). it had been trapped by his family and forced to lie dormant until kojiro would arrive to take it down. what the demon reveals to him, however, changes everything. there is no cure to this curse, the demon tells him, everything he was told is a lie. the curse, it turns out, has tied the demon to him and the only way to kill the demon is for kojiro to die along with it. the reveal is this: when kojiro born, they took him from his mother for a short time. i want to emphasise that her family are pretty shitty people because they decided this would be the perfect opportunity both to punish her and to solve a very specific problem -- getting rid of this demon. the same member of the tsukidate who ‘diagnosed’ the curse was the one who put it on kojiro. i’ll explain the actual curse and story behind it (and the demon) in more detail at a later date but the basic gist of it is that kojiro’s family lied to him and used him as a disposable means to an end. his mother, for the record, was entirely unaware of this. but what else does the demon tell him? although the curse cannot be lifted, it can be held off. this demon thrives off death and, through death, it can stay strong and continue to keep kojiro alive. if it grows weak and it is not sustained, kojiro will grow weak along with it and inevitably die. kojiro informs the demon that he will not kill anybody. that is out of the question.

a month before his twentieth birthday, kojiro kills a man. he had tried to forget about everything the demon had said, tried to forget that his own family had set him up for guaranteed destruction, but it hadn’t been easy. it had set him on edge and he’d become unstable. he’d fallen into a slump and his friends grew worried for him. yet, after a while, he came to accept it and tried to make peace with his life as it was. he put it to the back of his mind as best he could. but he’d discovered that the man his mother had been seeing over the past few years since he’d moved out to live on his own was abusive. so he killed him. everything the demon had told him risen to the surface and he’d asked himself does it matter if this guy dies instead of me? after all, kojiro was curious. he didn’t really want to die and he had wondered if the demon was telling the truth. to this day, kojiro doesn’t know what to believe but it’s much too late for all that now. he followed his mother’s boyfriend home and broke his neck in a dark alleyway. thanks to the magic he’d been taught growing up, he was able to ensure that nobody every traced him to the accident and, when the clock struck midnight on his twentieth birthday, kojiro broke down crying with relief.

he wasn’t dead. he still isn’t dead. he’d never wanted to die. over the years, the killing has gotten a lot easier. over the years, the answer to that question comes much quicker; if somebody has to die, why should it be me?

Since it was Dabi’s Bday recently I’d like to share some thoughts/ideas/headcanons about him. I hope you don’t mind, I rlly love your blog.

The flowers Rei thought she received from Enji were actually from Touya, because despite everything, this boy still loves his mom. He cannot resent her for what happened because he knows they were more or less in the same boat and she did try to protect him, which is also why I like to think that at the end of Dabi’s reveal video, when he’s done talking, he stands up to turn off the camera and just before the video cuts out you can hear a whispered “I’m sorry, mom” and the screen goes black. The volume needs to be on max to hear it, which is why most ppl missed it.

I saw this theory that Dabi actually does have 2 quirks, which is how he survived the accident and got his scars. (I didn’t quite get the logistics and I don’t believe it but it’s an interesting concept imo.) The theory is that he got his scars because his body cracked, the way a frozen mug would crack if u filled it with hot liquid. (Skin seems too stretchy to just crack like that tho so idk.) This would explain why his scars are so clean-cut and still need to be stapled. Also, his scars look more like frostbites rather than burn marks but idk. He totally has some form of chronic pain from his scars, or at least from the staples pulling on his skin.

He acts cold towards the LOV members, although he enjoys their company after a long time of being on his own, because he’s scared of getting close to ppl and starting to care cuz he knows how it feels to lose everything he cares about. He doesn’t want to feel what he felt when he had to leave his family ever again.

I rlly think Touya and Keigo knew each other as kids; not necessarily as friends but they’ve talked enough to exchange names at least once. I imagine this happening a bit before Enji caught Hawks’ dad, Keigo finding a patched-up kid near a park, asking him what happened, exchanging names and talking a bit, maybe playing in the park for the afternoon, and not seeing each other again. Just enough interaction for Hawks to later wonder “what happened to that battered kid?”. Dabi recognized him when they met years later during the manga time, he didn’t trust Hawks because his general rule is to not trust anybody, but deep down he hoped. (sry this is my DBHWK addiction talking, ignore this)

After the accident, he had to live on the streets and fend for himself for years, so he’s seen a lot of shit after that, which earned him 1) more trauma, 2) critical and cynical thinking, 3) limited amount of empathy and trust issues, 4) the admirable ability to call out BS like the drama queen he is.

And one thing that bothers me logistically is that we know Touya’s body was not made for a fire quirk as strong as his, but, that could’ve easily been solved with support gear? Like a protective costume to cool his body and limit the fire output to only his hands?? Why tf didn’t Enji bother to provide his oldest kid (who showed much promise to become a hero, mind u) with the proper resources he obv needed? I’m kinda salty abt this ngl.

Anyway, I’m done here. I hope you don’t mind me venting out these ideas. I rlly like ur blog and I felt like you and the lil community u’ve gathered here could appreciate most of these. <3

I really love those theories, too! The theory of the flowers actually being from Dabi is one of my favorites. Also the “I’m sorry, mom” hello??? Yeah, I didn’t need a heart anyway, thank you....... :(

Totally agree with the LOV thing. I really think that part of him is just too fixated on his goals to destroy Endeavor that he can’t really care/think about anyone else, but I also do think that a part of him actively tries to avoid people and the risk of starting to care about them. If you think about how he most likely is aware that an attempt at killing Shouto or Endeavor would also probably result in his own death, he might not want to get attached to anyone because what if he gets second thoughts then? Or what if he dies and they then get sad about it? And he just knows that his faked death hurt his family (that whole “thought so hard about it I went crazy”), so him dying would now also hurt the LOV, therefore he tries not to get close so their pain won’t be as bad as it could be?

Endeavor definitely could’ve helped him, but we’re talking about the guy who gave up on trying to reach his goals after like two years LMAO. Just cannot take this man seriously. They definitely could’ve figured out a way. I mean, Dabi did more or less figure out a way on his own. He uses larger attacks right away and then gets into people’s heads as his secret weapon and as a way to take a little break from overheating. Imagine how proper support items could help him. 

Heroes (and U.A.) focus far too much on their quirks and too little on all the other important skills needed for the job - just look at Uraraka who learned some basic self-defense at her internship, which then saved her life against Toga in the summer camp arc. Meanwhile, U.A. only lets them have some weird P.E. class where all they do is just use their quirks instead of being taught more basic fighting/survival skills? Heroes are just weird, and their education is a joke.
