it kinda sucks that you hc a canonically pansexual character as gay (clef)

i deliberated not answering this one bc i dont rlly mean to get into representation discourse or w/e during pride month of all things but i think the sentiment behind it is very fair so i feel bad ignoring it.

firstly, i think it needs to be said that clefs "canon" romantic orientation is very much just, whatevers funniest or most poignant for what youre trying to do with him. i understand the sentiment, there are characters in scp who are queer in a very specific and straightforward way where i'd also be upset if people erased that about them, but clef is not that guy. he is probably the single most contradictory character across the entire wiki, and everyones got a bit of their own take on him.

secondly, to defend my own take a little, i don't even really see clef as strictly homoromantic. i think when applying queer labels to fictional characters one tends to kind of treat them as these ontological, prescriptive truths, rather than how labels are used in real life, by the individual themselves to approximate their lived experience.

what i'm trying to say is i don't think clef the character, at least the version of him i'm most fond of, the fifty something year old reformed casual homophobe from resurrection and co, really knows what the term "pansexual" means, or "mlm", or "demiromantic", which are other words i'd use to describe him if i were using the prescriptive approach.

i think clefs relationship to romance is deeply complicated and not something he spends a lot of time really thinking about, and in practice, despite the theroretical breadth of his capacity to be attracted to other people, he's really only attracted to men, which is to say one particular man who also just so happens to be dead, so there's no point in really dwelling on it.

Hey, I hope people don't mind me chipping in here. But I wanted to reiterate that Gale is canonically Pansexual. This has been confirmed by the game developers.

I am not trying to police how people choose to enjoy the game or interact with the fandom. If you want to read, reblog, and create content with Gale x one gender exclusively, then go ahead. Just keep in mind that he is not heterosexual. Especially when making posts about how he treats a partner, his approach to sex etc. Or when writing about him in general.

I am not going to get into the importance of using inclusive language, but regardless of your own preferences, Gale likes all genders. Using language that implies he only likes one gender erases his sexuality and can make some people feel excluded.

I'm only saying this as I have seen a few posts recently that have referred to Gale as if he likes women exclusively, and I felt like I needed to say something. As I know, the companions Pansexual status sometimes gets erased by the fandom.

I am not bi or pan myself. You can very well tell me to stay in my lane if you want to. This post is not intended to be hateful or start a debate, I just want to ensure that this remains a safe space for everyone 🏳️‍🌈

you know, in light of the Great James Somerton Callout Double Feature™ recently, it made me think back to when i used to watch James' videos. i wasn't an avid fan and never watched his streams or anything so i couldn't have any inkling of the plagiarism on my own, but this all now reminded me of one instance where he made a point of something in one of his videos that was so blatantly wrong, it made me wonder "wait...did you even watch the thing you're talking about?"

and that was with his video on the Owl House, because i believe there was a bit near-ish to the end where he's talking about the open queer representation in TOH, and at the time the video came out the show itself hadn't concluded yet, but he mentioned alongside the not only very canon Lumity as representation the show had to offer, he also mentioned...that the show was hinting at there being a potential romantic relation between Hunter and Gus????

and that had grabbed my attention and made me confused, because...no?? did we watch the same show??? cause if you've watched the Owl House not only would you know that Hunter was 16 and Gus was 12, which is really stretching it in terms of acceptable age gaps, but also...their relationship was not like that, and didn't have any sort of romantic subtext to try and grasp at. the way they hung out and interacted was much more of a "dudes being bros" way (silly headbump handshake, comforting each other in their insecurities and what people saw them as "weak" for), and i'm pretty sure even at the time the episode came out where Gus and Hunter officially became friends, Hunter was already showing signs of crushing on Willow???

so, in retrospect, it now occurs to me that the reason James mentioned that was not because he had simply misinterpreted Gus and Hunter's interactions and the shows intentions for them in the future, but it was deliberately James grasping at straws to shoehorn in some kind of MLM representation into the show where there wasn't any. and while, yeah, in an openly queer show, still not seeing yourself represented kinda sucks, but James Somerton is clearly a person who doesn't value anything in the LGBTQ+ community other than the G. he thinks being a gay man (especially a cis white gay man) is the only real way of being queer, or at least the most "oppressed" type of queer, probably because news media only ever gave significant attention to the deaths of cis white gay men during the AIDS crisis, and that is pretty much James' only point of reference in "historical events that happened to queer people" because god knows he didn't care enough to research and write on his own, let alone research and write about queer history involving queer people who weren't cis white gay men like him.

and it's especially shitty that he that he tries to force this idea of Hunter and Gus having romantic subtext right after he talks about Luz and Amity's relationship. i'm personally not the biggest fan of Lumity within the story of the Owl House, but the representation is really great, especially for something in a disney cartoon. so him trying to then detract all the sapphic representation that Lumity provided and even built the show upon with an MLM relationship that not only is weird in context but also never even happened?? the AUDACITY.

and what gets me even more is that, by the end of the show, while Hunter does end up in a relationship with Willow, it's not a straight relationship. it was confirmed by the show's creator Dana Terrace after it concluded that Hunter is bisexual and Willow is pansexual, and while yeah, real shame that there wasn't any actual expression of those facts during the show's runtime, it's still nice to know that they're queer, and thus their relationship is queer. it's also great to have a canon bi/pan couple when there's STILL an immense infighting problem between bi and pan people thinking that one of the sexualities is trying to erase the other due to their similar (but not same) definitions. so having them not only coexist but also be in love is great!

but you just know, you just KNOW, that even if James' video was made after the show's official conclusion, he would probably either:

A: ignore Hunter and Willow's relationship and try to play on plausible deniability that they're just friends since they never had any great romantic gestures like Lumity's confession and many kisses

or

B: make a shitty argument out of it that the Owl House "could have gone leaps and bounds further with their representation, but Disney was so homophobic that Hunter couldn't possibly get to also be gay, so he had to end up with a woman :("

and while i think both are probably just as possible as each other, my money would be on option B, because god damn it this man can't praise a piece of queer media if it doesn't somewhat center around or involve gay men, and leave it to James Somerton to try and project himself onto the white teenage boy and think that if he were gay, that'd somehow make the story better.

this man actively hates women, especially queer women whom he loves to pretend are actually straight women, and if he had the chance would still do everything he can to try and make a queer relationship between a man and a woman into some woeful narrative of "what could have been" if they just made the man gay.

god, from this singular moment alone where i had a very questionable opinion of James, the knowledge i have now completely recontextualizes everything. this guy is a plagiarist, a misogynist, but most of all, an internalized homophobe who replaces the word "gay" in the content he steals from with "LGBTQ+" and "queer" because he actually *would* just like to use the word gay, but if he did it would make it more obvious that he's plagiarizing, so he instead makes "queer" and "LGBTQ+" be synonymous with gay to make it look like he's actually being inclusive.

and i don't really remember much about his video about Korra, i don't know if i even watched it, so the only frame of reference that i have is what Hbomberguy said about it in his video, and i frankly do not want to go and give James anymore views he has not earned and will never deserve, but i think he did a similar thing in trying to grasp at straws with a potential queer relationship between Mako and some guy who i don't remember (i really didn't watch much of Korra sorry) but that also kind of was not the case of their relationship at all either, from what i've heard. at most it was just people shipping them, especially since the footage James Somerton used in his video was from a fucking ship AMV and not even from any of the high resolution episodes. so again it seems like there's an instance of James trying to shove in an MLM relationship that doesn't exist in a show whose lead representation is a WLW couple.

again i could be wrong, and correct me if i am, but unless there's a convenient re-upload of that entire video on another channel or even another video website, i'm not going to give James' channel any more attention than it unrightfully has.

Man, I need to stop delving into the Astarion tag. First it was people trying to invalidate Astarion’s pansexuality, then it was this rabid hatred of ace or celibate headcanons, as if he has to have sex eventually in order to have a happy relationship, because that’s the only thing that can prove he’s healed I guess? Anyone, ace or not, can decide that they are happier not having sex. It doesn’t mean they failed and it’s really gross to see this demand of sex from anyone with even a slightly complicated relationship with sex.

Now I’m seen a concerning number of posts that completely wipe away the fact that he is polyamorous. There’s this focus on how attractive jealousy or possessiveness can be, probably because of the ascended vamp route, but Astarion sounds so incredibly happy and excited for a protagonist who wants to start seeing Halsin as well, and I think it’s huge that he can grow to trust Tav with that. But polyamory isn’t afforded the same respect as other orientations, so it seems to get trampled completely in favor of whatever angsty or sexy story people want to tell. You can still do that without completely erasing his identity! Respect his polyamory as much as you do his pansexuality! There are so few poly characters in video games as is

Back in high camp, the family was a mess, the clan was a mess. The crowd went silent as she ran, looking over their Olo'eyktan, hoping he'd do something; run after her, or shout at her to come back, at least. But he didn't do anything.

The clan didn't know what to do, or what to feel, they had never seen this happen; this was new. As much as they were annoyed by that Sully kid, they couldn't help but to feel a tinge of worry.

Neytiri dragged Jake back to their tent, holding him by the ear, as Mo'at shooed the prying people away.

"What were you thinking?" Neytiri hissed once they reached a secluded area of their tent.

"What? It's not my fault that she was stupid enough to actually go." he scoffed.

"She could die, Jake." Neytiri said, her voice breaking, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

Suddenly, Jake was hit with a terrible realization. He killed his daughter.

His ears laid flat on his skull. His heart thumping as if it was gonna burst out of his chest.

How could he do this?

Why did he do this?

Why did this happen?

What happened?

Millions of questions ran through his head. His memories with his daughter played back from the beginning, her first word, her first few steps, her first hunt, their first fight.

His mind played every single memory, looking  for the one that ruined them. But he couldn't find it, it was like it was erased from his life, deleted. Or maybe he just was not looking harder, scared that he would see what he does not want to see.

He heard cries, snapping him from his thoughts. Looking up, he was greeted with the sight of his family in a state of desolation.

He hated this. He hated himself. Something in him changed, snapping back to what he used to be; a father that loved his daughter. In that moment he would do anything. Anything.

"Neteyam, Lo'ak. Come with me, we'll look for her. Kiri, stay here with your mother and Tuk, arrange a search party, get the best hunters, fighter, healers—just anyone." he ordered, his voice laced with desperation

He would do anything to find her, he would send out an army for her. All he wanted was his little girl back. He was willing to do anything.

[Name] found herself standing in the entrance of the Ikran rookery. It was dark, the bioluminescent plants being the only lighting up the way. The cold wind brushed against her skin.

She started to walk in with hesitance.

Why was she hesitating?

She did want this, right?

Right?

Regardless of her skepticism, she continued to walk in. Heart pounding fast.

The Ikran rookery was majestic, there were many Ikrans, all of different colors. All of the Ikran were asleep, but one awoke the second she walked in. At first she didn't see it. It sat in the corner near the vines alone.

The Ikran was a beautiful dark blue-purple color, getting darker and darker as it reached the tail, it was the color of the midnight sky. It had green freckle-like dots surrounding its body, making it easier for it to blend in the dark forests of Pandora.

Before [Name] could admire its beauty, the Ikran launched towards her, knocking her down. Quickly, she held on to its neck and managed to swing herself on it.

The Ikran screeched, trying its very best to shake her off. She grabbed her queue to connect it to the Ikran, but, before she managed to make the bond, the Ikran jumped off the cliff; taking her down with it.

"Shit." she whispered to herself, breathing rapidly, as she was falling down.

"Oh fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck!" she cried as she noticed she was nearing the ground. Quickly, she grabbed her queue and connected it to the Ikran, she felt the bond being made, she felt what he felt, what he thinks, his heartbeat, his breath, everything.

But still it did nothing, the ground was only a few feet away, she panicked, breath getting faster and faster. She did not want to die.

Not yet.

Not here.

Not like this.

Her Ikran kept screeching, panicking as well.

"Just shut up and fly straight!" she shouted, the ground being very very close to them. The Ikran quickly flew up, saving both of them.

They soared around the sky, and just then [Name] felt true freedom her whole life. She felt the cold breeze on her skin and the wind hugged her.

"Woooo! This is awesome!" she exclaimed in happiness, letting her arms spread out as her Ikran flew to the horizon.

Hours have passed, [Name] sat on the edge of a cliff with her new found friend right beside her.

"So...bud, what should I name you?" she asked, lightly nudging her Ikran.

"What do you feel about Jo?" she said, a slight giggle leaving her lips. The Ikran nudged her, burying his head on her shoulder.

"I think that's a yes," she laughed. "so Jo, do you think we should come back?"

Jo didn't react.

Should she come back? No her father would kill her

Top 5: Favorite Durgetash headcanons

Like my personal headcanons or ones I’ve seen?

Personal headcanons:

1. Durgetash were head over heels in love with each other, even if they expressed love in ways that seemed fucked up to everyone else. They were two incredibly lonely people that just clicked in all the right ways to make each other feel like at least one person out there cared about them, and they did.

2. Enver Gortash is autistic/ADHD and Durge was his favourite person to info dump on. I mean look at him. My wife is autistic and they have very similar mannerism and ways of thinking. (In the logical sense anyway my wife hasn’t killed anyone) Especially with how his parents described how brilliant he was even as a child, I can just imagine child Enver coming off as annoying and needy to everyone around him because he wanted to talk about his inventions and no one cared to listen. Durge, on the other hand, grew up in a temple where they were expected to behave a certain way and was essentially treated as a puppet, even if they could’ve called the shots how they wanted to. I can’t imagine being a child taken into a murder cult and feeling anything but fear, even if you don’t need to be afraid. Durge knew nothing but blood and death for years, and along comes this funky little guy that wants to rant for hours about the kind of metal he wants to build his steel watch out of?? Yeah. They loved that shit.

3. Enver is a pansexual monster fucker that will love your Durge no matter what. This man has been so lonely for so long that I genuinely think he doesn’t care what package the love comes in so long as he isn’t being used anymore. You’re a Dragonborn? Cool he can work with that. A tiefling? Excellent he’s gonna use those horns as handlebars. A cute half-elf that has a surprising appetite for blood? Absolutely and can he join the next blood bath please?? He loves seeing you work

4. Durge did not want to be Bhaal’s scion. I know a lot of people don’t like how the Durge opening makes it seem like they’re trying to “erase” that Durge was evil, but I view it more as perhaps Durge was never willing. Just because you’re fathered by a murder god doesn’t make you a murderer, and amnesia doesn’t really change who a person is, they just forget. Your brain literally just won’t let you recall memories. Now personally, I’m all for if you think your Durge hates everything about being the Chosen, or (like for my Durge) you think they just hated not being in control of themselves or allowed to kill as they please. Both are great mechanics for a well-rounded character, but I really think either way, Durge hated being what their father made them into, and would have jumped the moment they could escape. The prayer of forgiveness? A classic here’s my fake apology abusive parent so I can spare myself more abuse.

5. Enver whored himself out as a young man to get lots of power and money and he hated every second of it. We know it’s canon that he slept around a lot before the present day setting of the game, but I don’t think he ever enjoyed it. Not really. He grew up in the HoH where he was beaten and abused and nearly tortured to death on many occasions. He finally escapes with nothing to his name and once again he’s at the mercy of whoever he can convince to give him food, shelter, money, etc for the price of his body. This man absolutely has two wolves inside of him and one is a god complex and the other is an ego so crippled and fragile it’s a wonder he ever comes out of the house. When he meets Durge, he’s willing to manipulate them however he must to secure their alliance. He’s done it before, he’ll do it again. I think he’s so very surprised when Durge catches feelings back, when they go out of their way to take care of him, compliment him, even if it’s in their own fucked up fashion. I think the real sticking point for him would be when he and Durge are attending some high society to do together and they run into an old fling. Enver being upset and uncomfortable enough that they leave early and he tells Durge everything. The next day, and the following weeks, he finds severed hands, fingers, bloodied jewellery, all placed at his desk or beside his bed and he can’t help but smile. Durge bringing him pieces of their kills like a cat is so endearing to him.

The Newsreader & gender expectations. Part II: Dale Jennings and being a newsreader

I feel like there's a line connecting Dale's mum with his career ambitions and with how he feels about his sexuality.

Dale's not that young. So, why hasn't reflected more about his sexuality and his relationships? Why is he still trying to erase parts of himself (darling, it won't work)? Why does he assume that everyone wants to get married?

"It's 1987, there was not really the language for him to discover that (and he's working in such a rigid environment), to even really understand what bisexuality is or what pansexuality is or maybe demisexual (sic)." Sam Reid. ABC Radio National

Both Sam and Michael have talked about Dale lacking the language about his sexuality. While it's true that that he may not have come across the word "bisexual" (although the famous Bowie interview is from 1979), I feel like more than a label he needs a narrative. It's pretty common for queer people, when we're discovering our sexuality to look for people like us: historical figures, fictional characters, people in our own life, etc. Just some one to show us how to live.

Gerry also doesn't have a label, and yet he seems much more happy and comfortable in his sexuality. His life history could be that narrative Dale needs: fall in love with a woman, marry, have a child, have a successful career AND have sex with men on the side. But Dale is set on monogamy. Which is absolutely fine, but he can't imagine himself as attracted to both men and women, and monogamous, AND happy.

My theory is that he's never had the time to think about this things because he was an emotionally parentified child. We know that Dale's father died when he was only 15. He had to take responsibility for his mum happiness. And he's holding that responsibility ever since.

This is more fanfiction than analysis territory, but I can imagine a recently widowed Val glued to the TV, watching news. And I can imagine a very young Dale thinking "Now that my dad's dead I have to be a proper man, the kind of man my mum values. And that man is a newsreader."

I know that sexuality is not correlated to gender, but these things intersect and the ideal man for society (specially in this moment in time) is a straight man (who gets married to a woman, has children, provides for them financially, etc). Queer men are seeing as feminine and therefore faulty. Dale's running away from being perceived that way.

What I would call "a partner" and Adam calls "a lover", Val calls "a friend". The euphemism makes it pretty clear that she's not comfortable with queerness. Dale wants to make her happy, so he has to be a straight man.

Even after more than a year of Helen and Dale being together, Val says she wasn't sure Dale was going to propose/marry her. Maybe she thought they were going to break up, or that they would continue to "live in sin" (lets note the religious expression for a moment...) for ever. But what I hear (and judging by Dale's awkward reaction, he may be thinking the same) is "up until this moment I was afraid you were actually gay".

By the end of the season, Dale and Helen have broken up. He buys his own house and while he's showing it to his mum, they have that little dialogue. "It's not a family home", once again that idea of nuclear family shows up. For the first time he's going against her wishes. Does this mean he's happy? Sam doesn't think so and neither do I. I think he just switched his mum's expectations for those of the society in general. And society expect for people who work on TV to have big fancy houses, so that's what he bought.

I’m trying to figure out why it irks me so much to see Astarion with soooo many female Tavs. Art and fics of Astarion with women dominate the Astarion tag and I just wish there was more male content. Maybe it’s because I feel protective over Astarion and his queerness and worry that these writers/artists are erasing that side of Astarion.

It's just a bit bland, that's all I can say with any sort of authority (aka personal opinion). But a lot of really popular fanart seems to have masc Tavs? I have personally seen plenty of Astarion/M!Tavs, as well. But mostly because Astarion with a female Tav usually means hot elves/drow and my eyes roll back into my head when I see those and my brain blocks them out. And I don't read Astarion x f!Reader type stuff either.

Astarion is pansexual, however, so him being with women is just as valid as him being with men (or nonbinary people, we exist also). Individual writers erasing the fact that he has canonically been with men is one thing, but I don't think just him being with women is the same as erasing that? And you can't really know which writer is and isn't erasing his queerness unless you read all of their content. But again, not my place, just something I've seen people say.

However, I do understand the frustration, where it might feel like erasure just from the sheer amount of one type of content specifically overshadowing everything else.

All in all, it's complicated, and I don't think it's my place to make any sort of judgment on this. Aside from "Hmm. Boring." Which might not be what you want, and I'm sorry for that.

The new Three Muskteers movie is not necessarily a good movie, but it is an enjoyable movie if you know what your in for

If you go into the movie, expecting a cool sword fight movie, filmed in Hollywood slow mo, you are wrong. It is an european movie (french... and was someone produced in cooperation with the second german TV channel???... anyway). The movie fixes a lot of problems of the book, while creating its own, but the book is a mess anyway, so who cares

The whole messy storyline with the necklace is fixed. In the book all three Musketeers go on the quest and go missing after three pages and the next 150 pages are just D'Artagnan  trying to find them

The movie remebers that the king has brother

The movie makes it really clear that the story was actually never about the Three Musketeers but about D'Artagnan all along, they already make it clear in the titles. I think many people will go in there, expecting a great men friendship, but this is never what the book was about. You can change that in a movie of course, but this movie is clearly plot focused and not character focused.

- she also cheated on literally every guy she dated (with mostly brittany), i mean come on if a guy did a good job to her, she wouldn't even think of cheating (i don't think so at least)

- she had more chemistry with any of the girls than any of the guys she dated/in the new directions

What are your thoughts on David and Paulo’s relationship both platonically and romantically? They have a very interesting dynamic bc David usually follows Paulo and looks up to him but sometimes swaps to guiding Paulo to improve. David also seems to have feelings for Paulo all while being a wingman for him and other characters. Daisy was also jealous of David last chapter. Their relationship is really interesting to me.

For some reason whenever someone asks me about David, I keep thinking back to Critical hit and can't get out of that zone, finding him this ultimate head scratch.

But honestly, the Paulo and David dynamic? Name a better comedy duo where the two mostly complete each other. Paulo is the straightman to David's wild shananigans most of the time. Or is he?

While there is a side of the relationship where it seems like Paulo is just keeping David contained, more often than not, David's carefree and positive attitude tend to rub off on Paulo and erase the worry. Platonically, David's a good fit for Paulo because while Paulo struggles with his own self image in various ways to ensure he doesn't disappoint David, who idolises and looks up to him, the truth is David would support him no matter who or what he turned out to be. He's also been pretty good at keeping his head most of the time, often not doing so when he's clowning around a bit.

David's love for Paulo also extends to his desires and ensuring that Paulo does achieve that love that he seeks, caring very little about the type of person in question and being objective with the end result. It comes at personal sacrifice, suggesting he pairs up with various girls in the intial stages of highschool during Paulo's aggressive and toxic masculinity in hopes he eventually does find that person that helps him achieve that happiness. This of course opens up to potential male partners once Paulo comes out as pansexual, to which David also throws his candidacy into the ring.

There's definitely enough evidence there to suggest should these two get together, David would likely do everything possible to ensure Paulo's happiness.

I feel it's natural for Daisy to feel some envy towards David because he's not as inhibited as she is with her feelings. There was nothing holding him back from throwing his candidacy into the ring and I'd have to assume he felt he knew Paulo enough already that the liklihood of a worse-case scenario like Paulo being offended and treating the friendship differently if he were to reject was non-existent. Daisy on the otherhand is overwrought with her own self-image and self-confidence issues believing that their relationship could change if she were to express some self interest in him, and there could be some merit given his past behaviour and attitude towards women, and how he's never treated her like many of the other girls. Paulo being a childhood friend for about the same length as David means just as much to her and having the dynamic change for the worst should she be rejected would just be too much for her to risk, and in her mind there's much more to lose from trying. Ironically resulting in this deadlock since he does share an interest in return, but his own issues in his self-confidence believes him not to be worthy of her.

But yeah, where Daisy is often envious because she feels other girls are prettier, younger, or fitter than she is, she envies David's openness.
