Pan flag discourse but it's actually accurately informed, adds to the conversation of racism in the queer community, & is overall important for clearing up misconceptions surrounding the flag & the original creator.
Tumblr media
ALT TEXT:
1st flag: the original pan flag is created by a pan person who is anti-racist & actively stands up for BIPOC. they do not actively use ableist language. the flag is lesbian friendly. it has accurate, fluid definitions. the flag is S.A.M friendly. for more than JUST pan-SEXUALS. the creator is not transphobic, and is also openly transgender.
2nd flag: the 6 stripe flag is not made by a pan person. it is racist & lesbophobic in origin. it is sometimes reclaimed by pan lesbians, but not always used as such. transphobic & enbyphobic in origin. it is a lesbophobic hate flag. it is not S.A.M friendly.
3rd & 4th flags: the 2 flags with the red-yellow-green like pattern is racist in origin. it is made by a racist person that also is a race baiter, whilst being a white german person. the creator is biphobic, transphobic, enbyphobic, lesbophobic & so is the flag in origin. this creator is non-black and uses aave. the creator has spoken over indigenous peoples whilst not being indigenous. they laugh at racial slurs. creator misuses neurodivergent terms & uses ableist language. this flag is not S.A.M friendly. it is a lesbophobic hate flag.
this muted monstrosity was is allegedly created & updated by the same user AKA @/gunslinqer on Twitter.
(S.A.M = Split Attraction Model, AAVE = African American Vernacular English, BIPOC = Black, Indigenous, People of Color, AKA = Also Known As)

tbh when i was first introduced to the new pan flag i didnt even know that there was discourse about it- it was just my brother going “so this is the new pan flag” and me just blindly accepting it cause it didnt affect me (i wasnt (and still am not) pan and still thought i was cishet)
That makes sense, though, and I don't blame you. Sometimes it is easier to just go,"Oh,okay," and save yourself some stress.

was looking through aldi's weekly specials and
Tumblr media
did...did they do this on purpose? or did someone decide to stick their neck out and see what happens, and nobody caught on?
because aldi doesn't do rainbow capitalism! at least, not here they don't. and almost all the other mats in the sale are red-white-and-blue for 4th of july!
I just really want to know what happened here

This may be a hot take, but online flag and label discourse doesn't actually help the community. If anything it just takes attention away from actual queer issues and exemplifies yt queer privilege.

Finding out you’re on the asexuality spectrum in a conversation about the over sexualization of Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099) is fucking crazy

I like the gay flag (it's quite pretty) but I'd like to hear why you like it anyway
I don't actually know the "discourse" around it bc I got caught up in the pan discourse 😔
The reasons I've heard for people not liking the blue/green gay flag is (1) its ugly, (2) gay men already have the rainbow flag & don't need another flag, and (3) its like a sexist "boy color" copy of the lesbian flag.
I like it cuz
(1) I think its cute
(2) the rainbow flag should be for all queer people, and its fair for every queer group to have their own flag (if they want one), as we all have our own unique social issues. We unite under the rainbow flag
(3) obviously blue=boy and pink=girl is a relic of sexism, but using these colors to represent gender in our flags is easily understandable symbolism. For example, the trans flag is one of my all time favorite flag designs, and it uses sexist color symbolism and still kicks ass

Just thought I'd share that
As much as I dislike the new pan flag and think it's unnecessary, someone explained me that the new pan flag has better meaning than the old one.. Like the old one has "attraction to men, women, and nonbinary people" while new one has "attraction regardless of gender". I always thought that people who use new flag use it just because "eww the creator of old one thinks bi lesbians are valid!!" (which is such a dumb reason to use flag or to make a new one cuz i bet that if we would try to search, we would find any creator of queer flags being "problematic" at some point. Plus there's something like reclaiming and separating creator from their work) but I just met pan people that identify more with the second definition and thats why they use the new flag
So yeah I learned something today, and im happy for that
Of course I know that we can reclaim pan flag and change it's meaning, but ig some people just prefer the new one and im just happy not everyone use it just because they want bi lesbians to die. Makes me feel a little better
i wanna preface this by saying i'm not mad or annoyed with you anon or trying to be a debby downer. this is just a topic i've been seeing people talk about lately and i have Thoughts. so this is my obligatory "i'm not mad at you or being aggressive, this is just how i talk" disclaimer.
i don't agree that the exclusionist pan flag has a "better" meaning. i don't see anything wrong with the pan flag's meaning. and there is no need to "reclaim" the pan flag or change its meaning. what's wrong with women, nonbinary folks, and men? because "it makes nonbinary a third gender"? it doesn't though, and it's not like there could be infinite stripes for all the different nonbinary genders.
because "some pan people relate more to regardless of gender"? that doesn't make it "better" because plenty of pan people don't. and like, a flag's meaning doesn't actually have to be or include the label's exact definition or an individual's personal definition, as there are many definitions of each label and they can't all be shoved into the meaning of a flag.
panphobes say "pink for girls and blue for boys? ew" but don't say shit about the trans flag. or say "the pan flag has pink for girls and blue for boys and yellow for ~that other gender~" when that's not even where the creator was coming from. people projected so much shit onto the creator, and when that got debunked, they projected onto the meaning. it just feels like people are grasping at straws for reasons why the pan flag shouldn't be used and the exclusionist flag Isn't Bad Actually.
(the creator even tweeted last year about how people claiming the flag's meaning is a "gross oversimplification" of pan is ridiculous and ?????? and that people can just say they don't vibe with the flag instead of making shit up to make them look bad to justify not using the flag.)
and as far as not every person using the exclusionist flag because they're exclusionists...........if they don't agree with hating mspec lesbians then why would they use a flag that was created specifically to express exactly that? if they want a flag with a different meaning, they could make their own or find a non-shitty alternative pan flag.
again, any annoyance is general, not specifically at you, anon. and i'm sorry if this feels like raining on your parade, since you were happy to know not everyone uses that flag because they hate mspec lesbians.

my life got a lot better and I became happier/calmer when I stopped caring about how other people identify, what labels or flags they use, etc. what you do with your life is none of my business. as long as it’s in good faith, don’t care.
exclus are very sad individuals.

Sometimes I remember absolutely batshit insane discourse topics I saw when I was a teen and I am just. Amazed
Also, the fact that adults also said this just adds to the insanity tbh
#thylacines can talk#aces stole purple from bis#homosexual/romantic is a slur#aspec actually means autism spectrum and you cant use it if youre acearo. sources? just trust me bro#the mooncourse#people acting rude and entitled because you didn't include a lesbian flag in something. even when it WAS included just in a different post#when a certain art project was split into multiple posts. or they used a lesbiaj flag that they made on their own or that was less popular#because it was back when people still weren't set on which lesbian flag to use. or if it was by-request project#thay one time a lesbian candle maker was harassed because she made a lesbian candle hut didnt use the pink lipstick flag so people accused#her of being lesbophobic despite it saying thats a lesbian flag Right There on heretsy shop#either the same person or another lesbian crafter getting harassed because she made an ace artemis soap#the entire discourseprincessa fiasco#the queer is a slur argument and it's useless anyway because its too vague (thats the POINT)#it was tiring and so stupid when it all was happening and i regret wasting my teens on that bs. but man is it funny in hindsight#i dont miss old tumblr discourse though#I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT ANOTHER ONE. APPARENTLY 'PISS YOUR PANTS' WAS A DEATH THREAT#alsp the fact that i still see people. ADULTS. arguing against the aspec or pan/mga is laughable#what are you? 13? get off the internet. go outside. touch grass. interact with actual queer community. stop being so chronically online#these are just words. if they saw the type of terms older generations use theyd fucking combust on the spot

with june starting in a couple hours (in eastern time anyway) i just wanna say that if i see any of you motherfuckers engaging in flag discourse i will not hesitate to block
this is, indeed, US-specific, but FL s.b. 1438, h.b. 1421 and 1069, CS/SB 254: treatments for sex reassignment.
florida and other republican-controlled states are creating a trans refugee crisis within the united states. we do not have the luxury to focus on what flags are "problematic" for this or that reason. please focus on shit that actually matters, like fighting back against immoral laws restricting human rights (courtesy the party of "small government" and "personal freedoms")

Why....why would you choose to include pan in that lineup and yet not ace, aro, bisexual, lesbian for the transmasc nb lesbians out there.......like...huh?

when are people going to accept that bisexual is basically an umbrella term now, like trans
i mean i know mspec as a thing, but pan and omni and all that basically stemmed off of bi because they didnt understand what it actually meant. and thats fine historically, but we need to understand that we're all fundamentally the same. better together than divided. at this point a lot more people in those communities understand that "bi" doesnt just mean "two" in this context and hasnt since at least 1990.
we are the same and need to bury the hatchet
#that said if you try to differentiate pan from bi in a way that sheds a bad light on bi-identifying people im gonna have to ask you#to reevaluate. there are bis who dont care about genetalia. there are bis who are nb and date nb people.#who are trans and who date trans people. for whom sex and gender do not factor in their attraction.#we are not different. we are the same. idc what label you use just understand that we are the same and stronger together.#kath shouts into the void#personal#not to be all 'i was there gandalf' but i remember way back when people were starting to identify as pan en masse so as to#not be called transphobic it was fucking stupid and awful and rooted in people misunderstanding the bi term both in and outside#the community. there was so much drama and discourse and as i understand it there still is.#i need my fellow bis to understand that for every pan who says 'im not bi cus i would date a trans person' theres like 10 who just say#'i just prefer the flag colours' which is a valid enough reason#but i also need pan people to understand the history of their label and reject those principles and to accept that we are the same#sorry i saw a panphobic post on my dash and it got me riled#cus its like;; as much as its true that pan as a label started off as bi- and transphobic realtalk; a majority of pans arent like that now#or at least none of the ones ive met are#obvs theres bad eggs in each community and the bad bis are arguing w the bad pans but the rest of us dont need to fall for that shit

Every time I see someone on tiktok being against mspec mono people, I just. I get the urge to use Their method and make a video explaining why they shouldn't be against it, but these people wouldn't read more than three sentences and only if they have a video of a dancing vocaloid behind it.
